The art is lovely and now I'm gonna ramble because that's what I do when I care about something.
For the love of women, please PLEASE can fan artists remember to add muscle to their Shadowhunter ladies? I'll commend Bowater for cleverly giving James that sculpted and lean look without making him a beefcake (nothing against beefcakes, I'd love to hug them), but Cordelia is once again suffering from Arms And Shoulders Too Slender It's Hard To Even Imagine Her Picking Up A Sword. There is some there, yes, but artists shouldn't be afraid of giving particularly Female Main Characters weight and toned muscle. Cordelia is supposed to be nearly the same height as James as far as I can remember, and she's curvy, and full, and she wields a sword like it's second nature to her. Please explain why she looks so tiny in James' lap.
Also I'm pretty sure marriage runes are supposed to go over the heart whenever possible (thinking about Will's parabatai rune being over his heart instead -- he didn't get Tessa to draw over the scar, did he??) and... either I'm looking at the picture wrong or James' rune is not over where his heart should be.
For the matter, where are their other runes and scars?? James' Voyance rune isn't even on his hand. And I'm pretty sure he's right handed. I could have that wrong though.
Another thing: no one can ever decide what Cordelia's hair looks like and it's the funniest thing to me. This is what happens when all you do is vaguely say the colour is like fire but also like rose petals but also a flowing river of those things but also is Red (probably for redhead, but then from there I never understand where the rose petal analogy comes from considering the typical rose is a deep bloody colour -- I do acknowledge the existence of those light orange varieties though which might more closely resemble red hair). In the end, I'm glad readers can infer what they want and imagine the characters how they like.
Anyone else think James looks like he's built like a tennis player? Oddly specific, maybe, but it was a thought I had. Mostly the arms and somewhat narrow body.
James' hair is nice, his eyes are an interesting take on gold in the shadows. Bowater managed to also make him look closely related to his father, so bravo for that.
In the end, the focus is obviously on the marriage runes and not other physical aspects outside of it being clear that this is James and Cordelia. Bowater's style is very beautiful and elegant. Love the way fabric and lighting is done too. I'll add also that it is possible to be a smaller person who is slender but still strong so I mean Cordelia's not necessarily done wrong, I just interpret her appearance differently. Obviously, they're both hot and they're both attractive and I have my qualms with the series, chronicles, and author -- the fandom I am so-so on, though I'm still here, aren't I? And I'm taking the time to ramble about my thoughts on a piece of fanart -- but this is good. Gorgeous, even. Both James and Cordelia are beautiful.
#side note: am I the only one who thought cc made a mistake trying to describe james as handsome in cordelia's eyes#as opposed to matthew being the beautiful one#when there has always been a deep and aching strange beauty to james??#james herondale#cordelia carstairs#vaguely crediting charlie bowater though it isn't like you can't find a dozen more copies of this with the credit#also yes I mercilessly picked this apart because I am still trying to find avenues to express my dissatisfaction with tlh#I search for flaws what else can I say#I am aware of it but it's hard to turn those thoughts processes off#maybe I'll write a post at some point all about the authors I once Loved that I am now deeply critical of#a lot of people would hate me for it but eh#also we all know about the marvelisation of cinema#but is it time to talk about the marvelisation of book series/worlds?#or perhaps it has a better and more book-focused name? the jkr approach? rick riordan's marvel-esque flaw? the sjm plague? the clare affair?#we'll workshop it#maybe it's the curse of middleschool-YA series and the issue of aginh readers in fandoms#and I don't mean this as discriminatory against anyone older in fandom because there is not really a limit nor should there be#for most media#but the issue of when the readers grow up amd authors try to accomodate for that -- not necessarily by making their work more adult --#but by making MORE because there is also an influx of new fans and they want to stay relevant while retaining the old#it's a whole thing though I'd need to sit down to properly organise my thoughts to talk about it

Trying to compress what the past month has meant is futile, travelled from Timișoara to Târgu Neamț for a comics workshop and came back to put together over 20m of comic panels, in vector format for the local Polytechnic University's showcase in Venice and beyond, through Campus Creativ. Never been to Venice, hope to get there at some point, though. All of this was interspersed between poster versions for a play which avant-premiered on the 15th of July, at Teatrul Tineretului.
Gonna end this post with the Ceau, Cinema! exhibition, which drew together 10 years worth of posters done by local artists, including myself. Here are some of my favourite pieces together with the mom of Ioana Satmari (real talented animator) and a pic from the above mentioned comic workshop, the printed booklet of comic works can be viewed on my insta page, for now, thank you Ceva Centru gang ☻

Better Man (2024) review
Robbie Williams just told me to go f*** myself right before credits rolled. Baller move.
Plot: Better Man is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. The film is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist – all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.
“LET MEEEEEE EN-TER-TAIN YOU!” Yes, the soundtrack of this movie absolutely slaps, as it is Robbie Williams re-recording most of his greatest hits, and they are wonderful to hear, accompanied by some fantastic dance choreography (they closed off the busy Regent Street in London one night for the elaborate “Rock DJ” sequence featuring over 500 extras which is mad!) and visuals. It was honestly a great idea to have The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey direct this movie, as he’s proving to be a truly slick visual stylist, as this movie looks absolutely amazing. The editing and transitions from shot to shot are so smooth and creative, with so much energy, that I do wish he was handpicked to direct Wicked over John M. Chu. Don’t get me wrong, I think Wicked is a great musical adaptation, but I believe Gracey would have infused that movie with so much more colour and vibrancy, instead of making it look like another Marvel movie. Better Man looks wonderful.
We should also acknowledge the elephant (or should I say monkey) in the room - Robbie Williams is played by a CGI monkey. I’m not that much acquainted with Robbie Williams’ stardom, though my wife tells me that Williams at one point compared himself to a cheeky monkey, and if so I absolutely love that due to that one time he said one phrase has resulted in a whole movie being inspired by it. Turns out the most crazy bonkers aspect of Better Man is also its greatest asset. Even though it takes a few minutes to get adjusted to seeing the main character be a monkey whilst everyone else is still human, this monkey ends up being so engaging, as there is so much emotion that it’s able to showcase through its eyes and facial expressions, more than a human would. The special effects are provided by Weta Workshop, who are also behind some of the greatest motion capture character work in film from the likes of The Lord of the Rings’ Gollum and Planet of the Apes’ Caesar, and it shows, as the monkey truly feels real and alive, as it’s a combination of the CGI and Jonno Davies’ performance that results in the best part of this film. Love the monké!
“Who is Robbie Williams?” he asks at the start of this film. He then answers his own question: he is “narcissistic, punchable and just a f..king twat”, but despite that, or because of that, he is here to entertain you. And in some ways this movie does - the sarcastic “fuck-everyone” narration by Williams himself is great, as it really personifies his personality of the British bad boy of boy bands. It is a shame then that the movie is hindered by generic music star biopic tropes. I get that this film is based on Williams’ real life story, but no offence to him, the story told here is like most other music stars’ backstory. Drugs, identity crisis, rough father-son dynamic, depression, band break-ups… we’ve seen it all before. My wife says that the Netflix documentary that came out a few years back was much more interesting and focused on more unique aspects of Williams’ life. This movie however goes for the bare bone basic narrative and as such it gets really boring. There’s a part where the movie completely stops and focuses on Williams drug additiction, and though it’s amusing to see the CGI monké get jerked off and snort cocaine, it does get repetitive. For as eccentric as Robbie Williams and the usage of the monkey is, the movie itself lacks depth to match that.
The two things that really work for Better Man are Michael Gracey’s superb visually colourful directing style, and the decision to have Williams played by a CGI monkey. However outside of that this film offers hardly anything new to the tired music star biopic genre. I mean it shows that even Hollywood realises how tired this genre is, as with them having a CGI monkey here and Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece be showcased through LEGO characters, it feels like they are trying to throw some really bonkers idea to revitalise the genre. Admirable, but a dull genre is still a dull genre, and the most important part of a movie is to tell an interesting store. Better Man does not.
Overall score: 5/10

~ 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | New photos of the creation of the bust of Noa 🐵
« In The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (@apesmovies), our main character is Noa, a young ape coming of age in the Eagle Clan. Wet Workshop worked with Director Wes Ball and in collaboration with Aaron Sims Company on refining the look of Noa, played by Owen Teague.
The process utilised both digital and physical clay sculpting to find a balance between human and chimpanzee features that would be both relatable and endearing.
Pictured here is our beautiful physical Noa bust, meticulously hair punched and used as an on-set lighting reference by the VFX teams and as an early concept sculpt maquette of the same character. »

WORKSHOP – EUROPA CINEMAS 2023 #2
By Rahel Jung (DE) // Photos © Marija Mireckaitė (LT)
On the 4th September, the second half of us 27 had the workshop on best practices at Europa Cinemas with Irene Angel Echeverri, the project coordinator for Portugal, Spain and Greece at the Europa Cinemas network.
In this workshop we considered film a product in order to understand the importance of cinemas in the film value chain and took a closer look at strategies that cinemas implement to stand out.
Before a film comes to the theatres, it has a very long journey to take. Broken down in a very simple way, it starts with a screenplay, followed by its production. After that, the licensing happens, which means that the producer gives the film to a sales agent who places it on the market and sells it to distributors in different countries who create sales strategies in order to commercialize the film in a way suited for the specific country trying to reach the widest audience possible.
Born from Europe Creative Media, the Europe Cinemas network counts at the moment 1,221 cinemas in 744 cities in 38 countries supporting European films.
In order to learn more about certain strategies, we got the chance to take a closer look at two cinemas. Therefore Axelle Jean presented the Cinéma Méliès to us and Eamon Hughes the Irish Film Institute.
The Cinéma Méliès is situated in Montreuil, in the eastern suburbs of Paris, well connected to the center of the capital. It is the biggest independent art house cinema in Europe and first opened in 1971. It has a really diverse program, showing 31 films at the moment. In addition to the regular screenings, it organizes a wide series of special programs, reaching from 'Japanim', a series of screenings of Japanese films to 'Circuits courts', where short films by local filmmakers are shown. It organizes a film festival and with 'Voyage dans la lune' it runs a program to engage with local schools.
An important part of its brand making is the emphasis on the locality and considering itself as part of a community. Furthermore its most important values are inclusion and diversity and show that cinema is for everyone.
In the heart of Dublin, you can find the Irish Film Institute (IFI), which considers itself as the “Home of the Irish Cinema”. In 1943, it started as an archive, preserving Irish cinema. Almost half a century later, in 1992, it became officially the Irish Film Institute, with the mission to exhibit, preserve and educate. It showcases the new and the old, the Irish and the foreign. For example, film festivals screening only films from certain countries like France or Poland. Films made by women are so called 'F-rated' and by this immediately recognizable as such. Often, after screenings, the IFI organizes panels on certain topics or Q&As with filmmakers etc.
Very important is also the educational branch of the IFI. It provides films for schools and organizes e.g. screenings of foreign films which are especially suitable to learn a foreign language. Accessibility is certainly an important point as well, there are screenings with e.g. audio description for people with special needs.
After these presentations, we split up in two groups, taking a closer look at the cinemas with the help of the so-called SWOT analysis, taking into account what makes them unique.
In the end, we presented to each other the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that we had found out about the Cinéma Méliès and the Irish Film Institute.
It was really interesting to get to know more about the structure of Europa Cinemas and especially to take a closer look at two extraordinary cinemas and within this noticing what a wide range of different experiences an art house cinema can offer.
