God yes. I hate girlboss Cinderella. People keep complaining about, Hollywood hears and then they wonder where Amazon Prime Cinderella came from.

Also, Cinderelmo and Hey! Cinderella is more mature than it.

You got it! Oh boy oh boy, that Amazon cinderella...

Honestly, beside it getting the classic 'hollywood' spin, the biggest crime of that movie was to have the comedic chops of Romesh Ragnathan, Doc Brown and James frikkin Acaster...and somehow make them unfunny.

How do you make James Acaster funny? His entire comedic persona causes people to cackle.

Oof.

But, yes, you are so right, a classic esample of the 'girlboss' makeover.

I could do a whole post about that film, but instead I really recommend you check out this Youtube Video:

'Quriky' main character that comes off quite cringe.

Shoved in one-liner feminist statements with no thoughtful embedding in the story. No real thoughtful overarching message other than. Yay! Women can do stuff!

Literally no reason why she gets a fairy godmother. No kind act, thoughful act, or even selfless act precedes this. That is not to say that one needs to be good to be helped, but it completely gets rid of all agency that Cinderella has in forging her own escape/happily ever after.

There could be a lot mroe said on this topic but i would really recommend watching Modern Gurlz Youtube Video on this adaptation.

It's elmo, and a human woman as a Cinderella story retelling. This is for a friend, BTW, so I don't know a lot about it.

[Mod's note: The following propaganda may be sensitive to those with medical trauma.] It's Elmo, and I grew up on this movie. Everytime I was sick or horribly injured Pepe put on this movie. It was the only gift I got from my Bio parents when I was still in foster care, until Grandma and Pepe adopted me. We had the big, bulky VHS tape. The last time I got to watch it I was 10 years old, and I had double foot surgery to correct some deformities, and that's when they found out lidocaine didn't work on me, so I had a 2 hour surgery without painkillers, and then the tape player ate our VHS, and it was a very sad day. To honor my life before, I think CinderElmo should win.

I don't want anyone asking me why I'm watching Cinderelmo for the first time or why I am unironically enjoying this film but basically in the film the princess has to host a ball and choose a husband by midnight. Typical Cinderella nonsense. As they're making arrangements, the princess asks to invite everyone to the ball, including every monster, and I love her thinking. A ball full of cryptids trying to woo me sounds awesome, and I think we as a society are ready to see that type of Cinderella movie being made. Someone make it happen.

When I was a baby my favorite movie was Cinderelmo which nobody else seems to have heard of?

Anyways my mom looked it up on YouTube and we watched it and I realized that it had a more positive message than Cinderella and was also fucking hilarious.

Cinderelmo is taking me out 😭 I watched imagination movers (a playhouse disney show i used to watch) for Alan’s voice actor cuz he showed up in an episode (AND THEY EVEN REFERENCE ROBIN HOOD CUZ HE WAS IN MEN IN TIGHTS DHBSJSN)

OMG MIAAAA IMAGINATION MOVERS WAS ONE OF MY FAVE SHOWS AS A KID!!! I used to watch it as a teenager too for comfort and lowkey still listen to some of their songs LMAOO 😭 (chicken pot pie is SO CATCHY OKAY...) now i wanna know what episode it was and check it out!!!! i swear it's so funny the places you can end up when it comes to watching things for your f/o's actor LMAO im so glad i'm not alone in this 😭😭💙 i literally watched a whole movie for this guy the other day and he was in like 15 seconds all the way at the end and didn't even have any lines!! i felt like this: 🤡
