She inherited the role on the death of an acquaintance and she's doing her best but she's like twenty-one and so, so shit at it. She can't make the wand turn things into anything but pumpkins. She's being followed around by two interfering old ladies who are better at everything. She's up against a far more competent Wicked Fairy Godmother who believes *she's* the good one. It's Mardi Gras, there are zombies, she punches a snake in the face at one point...

Fairy Queen of Sweet Dreams:

Multilimbed ancient god summoned by Ella’s plight <3 She outright tells Ella to move past the Disney crap and be willing to admit she’s willing to take revenge on her stepfamily for abusing her and literally murdering her companions. And then proceeds to sing one of the prettiest songs I’ve heard in a musical. She also calls herself “mother” which was definitely for the lesbians • She's literally the Goddess of All That Is Green and Good. She's ancient fey goddess who comes to Cinderella after an accidental offering of innocent blood and grants her the power to get revenge on her wicked troll Stepmother and stepsisters. She takes Cinderella to the end of time to crafter her slippers and gown from the lat dying star in the universe. In short, she's metal as fuck

shes summoned through the spilling of innocent blood at the base of her favorite tree. she makes a dress and shoes for ella out of pure starlight and enchants them so that as long as theyre on her feet all her dreams will come true. she has an absolutely Banging musical number. also she definitely had smthn going on with ellas mom theres a line that says she used to dance under the tree naked with her

Unlike most other fairy god mothers she gets right to the point and is like """"you want revenge let me help you"""". She is off putting and I love her so much. She also has many many arms and is extremely beautiful and ethereal.

MY BOYYYYY. I LOVE HIM. For real though, this 700-year-old/punk rocker/war veteran/gamer grandpa who is also a high school junior genuinely means so much to me. (To add a bit more credibility to him being in this poll, he is theorized to have been inspired by the good fairies from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty)

(For both) A fun and silly twist on the concept of Fairy God Parents

Brystal:

In TLOS Fairy Godmother is a title for the leader of what’s essentially the fairy tale equivalent of United Nations, which honestly leads to some interesting commentary on what it means to be a leader or a good person, and how it’s not necessary possible to make everyone happy, but it is shown that Brystal absolutely did her best until the end. In the main series it’s shown that she did her best as a single mother and always tried to do what was best for her sons, even though it sometimes meant doing things they perceived as hurt at the time. The books don’t fully commend her for every action she took with her family, she’s even willing to admit she knew there were protective actions that had selfish intentions, which is pretty refreshing for a parental character, especially in kids books! She has a genuinely sweet relationship with her grandkids and dies in the most badass way literally getting out of bed after being sick for months so she could slay a dragon. She still makes a point to comfort her grandkids before she returns to magic, and even after she passes her presence is felt in the books. The prequels, meanwhile, are really interesting because they show what she was like as a teenager, long before she was some revered figurehead. The first book treats magic as an allegory for being queer and how religious/familial trauma can squander the joy of being yourself, but she’s able to build a new group of people who support each other and slowly grow into the fairy godmother so many people picture. These books are just so good laugh

Katriona:

An adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, Katriona wasn't originally going to be one of the princess' fairy godparents (she was simply a guest there for the naming day, and probably only 16ish at the time, but I am having a difficult time figuring out her age other than she was a young woman), but when the evil fairy showed up gave her cursed gift, she rushed up and babbled her own gift, and was given custody of the princess to protect her. She and her aunt do her best to raise the princess with the hope that "ordinariness" will protect her from the evil fairy's plans
