WELCOME TO THE BEST FAIRY GODPARENT POLL!

Thank you for waiting patiently for the beginning of this tournament! Welcome to the next poll tournament I'll be hosting on this blog, the Best Fairy Godparent poll!

Criteria for characters to be accepted:

A character from a fairytale that is a fairy godparent or falls into that role (ex. the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, the Good Fairies from Sleeping Beauty, the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, etc.)

A character from a fairytale adaptation who is adapted from a fairy godparent character, even if it is a non-magical character in a non-magical adaptation (ex. Leonardo Da Vinci from Ever After, Rhonda from A Cinderella Story, etc.)

A character from a fairytale adaptation that is broadly a fairy godparent, even if they aren't specifically based on a single fairy godparent (ex. the Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2, Scary Godmother from Scary Godmother, etc.)

A character from a non-fairytale media that is not based on a fairytale but is a fairy godparent (ex. Cosmo & Wanda from Fairly Oddparents, etc.)

Rules for Submission:

Though fairy godmothers are more common than other kinds of fairy godparents, any gendered fairy godparent will be accepted for the tournament! I will try my best to always refer to this as a fairy godparent poll, but if I accidentally call it a fairy godmother poll ever just take it as a mistake and fill it in as fairy godparent!

No unofficial characters (fan characters, OCs, tumblr posts, etc)

No real people. I think this goes without saying, but just in case.

Submit as many characters as you want, but do not submit the same character multiple times. If I realize you've done this, I will ban the character from the tournament.

I have the right to reject any character if they make me uncomfortable or I think it's from problematic media.

The goal is a 32- or 64-bracket, single-elimination. I don't really have enough time or energy to do a 128-bracket, and besides, I don't think we will get enough submissions for a 128-bracket for this particular tourney anyway.

There might be some gray area between a character in a fairytale adaptation that is a fairy godmother vs. someone who falls into the role of the animal companions (Gustave from Ever After or Carter from A Cinderella Story would fall into animal companions adaptation to me, for example). In cases when a character is submitted that I think are animal companion adaptations instead of fairy godparent adaptations, I'll try to be clear and explain why I judged it the way that I did.

Fairy Queen of Sweet Dreams:

Multilimbed ancient god summoned by Ella’s plight <3 She outright tells Ella to move past the Disney crap and be willing to admit she’s willing to take revenge on her stepfamily for abusing her and literally murdering her companions. And then proceeds to sing one of the prettiest songs I’ve heard in a musical. She also calls herself “mother” which was definitely for the lesbians • She's literally the Goddess of All That Is Green and Good. She's ancient fey goddess who comes to Cinderella after an accidental offering of innocent blood and grants her the power to get revenge on her wicked troll Stepmother and stepsisters. She takes Cinderella to the end of time to crafter her slippers and gown from the lat dying star in the universe. In short, she's metal as fuck

shes summoned through the spilling of innocent blood at the base of her favorite tree. she makes a dress and shoes for ella out of pure starlight and enchants them so that as long as theyre on her feet all her dreams will come true. she has an absolutely Banging musical number. also she definitely had smthn going on with ellas mom theres a line that says she used to dance under the tree naked with her

Unlike most other fairy god mothers she gets right to the point and is like """"you want revenge let me help you"""". She is off putting and I love her so much. She also has many many arms and is extremely beautiful and ethereal.

Brystal:

In TLOS Fairy Godmother is a title for the leader of what’s essentially the fairy tale equivalent of United Nations, which honestly leads to some interesting commentary on what it means to be a leader or a good person, and how it’s not necessary possible to make everyone happy, but it is shown that Brystal absolutely did her best until the end. In the main series it’s shown that she did her best as a single mother and always tried to do what was best for her sons, even though it sometimes meant doing things they perceived as hurt at the time. The books don’t fully commend her for every action she took with her family, she’s even willing to admit she knew there were protective actions that had selfish intentions, which is pretty refreshing for a parental character, especially in kids books! She has a genuinely sweet relationship with her grandkids and dies in the most badass way literally getting out of bed after being sick for months so she could slay a dragon. She still makes a point to comfort her grandkids before she returns to magic, and even after she passes her presence is felt in the books. The prequels, meanwhile, are really interesting because they show what she was like as a teenager, long before she was some revered figurehead. The first book treats magic as an allegory for being queer and how religious/familial trauma can squander the joy of being yourself, but she’s able to build a new group of people who support each other and slowly grow into the fairy godmother so many people picture. These books are just so good raugh

So while she is specifically Snow White, it's been nearly 200 years since she had her own rin-in with an evil queen stepmother, and got her "happily ever after". She makes a comment (I'm paraphrasing here) about how she's more into the the occasional fairy godmother appearance now. She provides an object (and encouragement) to the protagonist when she needs it most, as well as granting one wish.

She's been with Ella her whole life and does her best to help her even with the limitations she faces (only being able to use 'small magic'). Also she's a great cook

She functions as an actual godmother to the titular Ella! She's Ella's closest friend, like a second mother to her, and she looks out for her in many ways beyond the Cinderella ball. Vote for her and drink your tonic, love.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Can't take away the curse. Ella's mom would have lived if she had just eaten the unicorn hairs in her soup! She can do small magics but doesn't do big magics. Can't protect Ella as much as she wants to.

I absolutely love when she says (in the book) “there is no small magic at a time like this” (or similar) because it is 100% true. There will be times that every decision or action you make will have lasting impacts on your life, even if it’s a small task you might have done a million times before. Plus, she cares so much and deeply for Ella and her mother and I know that it would also be true for Ella’s children and her mother’s parent.

She gives Ella a magic book. Does her best to protect Ella. Makes magic soup with unicorn hair (gross, but it works soooo???). She's amazing and I love her.

MY BOYYYYY. I LOVE HIM. For real though, this 700-year-old/punk rocker/war veteran/gamer grandpa who is also a high school junior genuinely means so much to me. (To add a bit more credibility to him being in this poll, he is theorized to have been inspired by the good fairies from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty)

Delora:

Delora is a good witch who gives the MC, Lucette, the Cinderella curse. This sounds like a bad thing, but Lucette was misguided her whole life by her mother (for game spoiler reasons) and is a very cold, mistrusting person, and breaking the Cinderella curse requires that Lucette do three truly good deeds. This is Delora's last ditch effort to help Lucette see the light and become a happy, loving, and good person before she becomes Queen of Angeille. Over the course of the game, Delora watches over Lucette, helps house her, protects her from bad witches and humans, and she offers advice on how to break the curse.
