As promised The Cigar Stop is posting another of the pricey heavy hitters, the old piggy bank took a denting on this. The Montecristo Platinum series.

So to start with I did wangle a deal at my friendly neighborhood brick and mortar, the normal price on these puppies are $12.00 to $14.00 for a single I have seen them online for about $10.00 to $13.00 for a single and on average $50.00 for a 5 pack, as I said I got a deal and got 5 of them. A box of 27 will send you into sticker shock with a mind boggling $140.00 to $300.00 depending on sizes

  So I get back to my humidor keep them for a few weeks to bring them to the humidity I like 70/70, not that store humidor was not up to snuff, but I don’t think they get an accurate reading on a walk-in humidor that someone is in and out of 10 hours a day.

This selection was launched around 2002 and was aimed at the more sophisticated pallets that wanted a heavy, beefy and full bodies Montecristo, you know who I mean, the richer smog beasts with money to burn and no since of reality, considering I know plenty of cigars that are not bank breakers and still will taste the same and have a decent quality… cigars are a luxury I know it, quit my crankiness on the subject…Sorry folks.

 The cigar was very nice to look at, the construction was perfect and not a blemish in site, upon lighting it I was surprised a bit by the spicy peppery note I got from it, but considering the wrapper being long leaf Mexican Cubano I should have expected a hint spice a the flame, it was tame after 5 minutes of burning. The rest of the flavors were ok with an espresso undertone and hints of woodiness and toasted nuts (which sounded better in my head…LOL)

The aroma was on the wood smoke side of the spectrum and the smoke was heavy and lingered for a long time before dissipating, so take that into consideration before you light this one and realtors say it’s all about location, location, location.

The cigar preformed nice, I have smoke all 5 of them, the last one as I am typing this review and I have to admit this time I was not a whole 100% impressed with my selection, I cannot put my finger on it, but I just think there should have been more for this price.

 In the long run, is it a cigar – yes.

Was there anything wrong with it? No.

did it preform as it should ? Yes.

Would I smoke them again? Yes

will I purchase them again? NO! I will not.

Playing devil’s advocate here Montecristo have some great cigars, but with this I’m just wondering why the hype, what did they do to this to warrant a 90+ rating from almost all of the cigar industry?

I give this a rating of a 5, sorry Montecristo good cigar, but nothing new here for me, (I’m sure the hate mail will be in shortly about this review)

Comfort food meets Comfort Cigars

 We all know what comfort food it; it’s that one or two food dishes that just make you happy; well I have the same thing with three cigars. No matter how many times I spark these boys up they make me happy, they are consistent from quality, to construction, taste and price.

 First being Baccarat “The Game”, this sweet dipped hunk of smoldering candy was the first box of cigars I ever bought and every time I light one up it makes me happy and memories come flooding into my head that is just sort of comforting.

The second comfort cigar for me is the Puros Indios Maxima Reserve 03, I discovered this one as a replacement to another Puros Indios that was discontinued and I must say this has been fantastic and it makes me feel relaxed like wearing my favorite shirt.

The third and final comfort cigar for me is the Tony Bahaia Maduro (red label). The flavor is inviting the construction is great and the aroma reminds me of the first time I smoked one, I was buy a fire on a cool morning in the woods and no matter how many times I smoke one it reminds me of the warmth and smell of the campfire and how quiet and serine it was that morning.
