Bog Leafhopper (Helochara communis) in my backyard this month. This is another species of insect that spends the Winter as an adult, and is thus able to appear early in the year, sometimes even when snow is still present. They feed on rushes and sedges. . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #bogleafhopper #helocharacommunis #cicadellinae #leafhopper #leafhoppersofinstagram #hemiptera #springiscoming #garden_insects #gardenbugs #insectsphoto #backyardinsect #blognorfolk #norfolkwild (at Simcoe, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMt04uypHr1/?igshid=1m0q94g3v5fgh

Sharpshooter Leafhopper (of the Genus Draeculacephala) in my backyard, July 2018. These Leafhoppers feed on grasses of various kinds. I'm unable to find the origin of the Genus name Draeculacephala, but "Sharpshooter" comes from two different sources. It refers to their feeding damage being like it was caused by tiny bullets (because of their piercing mouthparts). But it also refers to their habit of launching excess sap away from themselves rapidly and forcibly. . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #simcoeontario #draeculacephala #leafhopper #leafhoppers #cicadellidae #cicadellinae #hemiptera #homoptera #leafhoppersofinstagram #backyardbugs #backyardinsect #insectsinmygarden #invert_macro #macrophotography #macroinsect #macronature #blognorfolk #norfolkcountyontario #norfolkwild (at Simcoe, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCsrZzjpMc0/?igshid=oz4wsw74yv9c

Cigarrinha (Erytrogonia Phoenicia)
A maioria habita a vegetação rasteira.
