fic authors self rec
Tagged by @delektorskichick
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
In order of publication:
The Nemesis Versus a Grue (Chuck): Chuck Bartowski and Bryce Larkin deserved a chance to actually be friends again and have goofy fun after sorting out their differences, so that's what they get here. Plus, Bryce gets a little more insight into just how much trouble he dropped Chuck into with that email. 😉 This one just makes me happy every time I revisit it!
Hoppy Meals (Poe Dameron comics & The Mandalorian): Drunk Poe relates the story of how 7-year-old Poe met a Mandalorian and his kid, and why he ate a frog. Had a blast with both the concept of little Poe and Grogu together (delighted by how those timelines fit together) and writing Black Squadron getting progressively drunker.
Red Roses for a Blue Hacker (Leverage) from my Boyfriends in Crime series: Hardison confesses to Eliot that he'd like to be sent flowers, and Eliot steps up to make sure Hardison gets his romance... with a few twists! I love how their banter and romantic gestures came out--it just wrote itself.
Six (More) Weeks of Murder (Leverage): The culmination of a Groundhog Day loop of Mr. Quinn repeatedly looping over the days of "The Big Bang Job" and murdering Damien Moreau over and over. This latched onto my brain and wrote up so fast once I had the idea. (Would like to someday expand it with some chapters about the previous parts of the loop, but this final loop was written to go up as a standalone like it is now.)
Unspeakable (Leverage) from my We Have Never Had a Hitter (That Wasn't Actually Moreau's) series: "Hell AU" fic where Eliot has been working undercover for Moreau the entire time and comes to Nate in a panic when Moreau decides he wants to meet Hardison. It's honestly so hard to pick a favorite from this series; I love how so many of them came out.

#296 Return of the Starter-Villain
Hello How To Hero Heads! Today we’ve got some exciting news to share with you, we’ve finally hired a new supervillain correspondent: Everyone’s favorite lameo starter-villain, Smuggles. Say hello Smuggles. ||Hello Smuggles.|| Sheesh, this guy. I know, I know you must be shocked that I even allowed this to happen. Many of you will recall that I never signed off on, approved of, or got along with our last supervillain correspondent, Dr. Brainwave (don’t pretend you didn’t love Dr. Brainwave like a son, I seem to recall you being incredibly broken up when he died.) but that was because Dr. Brainwave was like, a credible threat who posed an actual danger to us and who once genetically engineered a giant monster that ate me. But Smuggles isn’t anything like that, he’s like the lowest of low-tier supervillains. ||It’s true, I was once hired to smuggle several objects into America, including a TSA uniform that was my exact size, and I never even once thought to put on the uniform to make the rest of the job easier.|| You may recall how in our original post on starter-villains we mentioned that he was on the rise ever since he teamed up with fellow low-level supervillains, Perry the Pirate and Charlie the Fish-Whisperer to hijack a canoe. But we’re both please and dismayed to say that our prediction was wrong. In the past three years, Smuggles has made absolutely nothing of himself. ||I once accidentally turned myself into a bowl of ice cream on a hot summer’s day.|| That starter-villain team didn’t even last past that first job, Charlie the Fish Whisperer went on, as you know, to become one of the most feared supervillains in the world and we all live in fear of the day Chuck the Fish Whisperer uses his awesome powers to escape the prison dimension the world’s heroes trapped him in. And Perry the Pirate became a lawyer I believe. But Smuggles, man, Smuggles. He’s no threat at all, so I was thrilled to see his application among the many we received following Dr. Brainwave’s untimely demise. So, welcome aboard Smuggles. ||Thanks! I’m excited to share my villainous insider knowledge with your read-|| Yeah yeah, that rocks man. So, anyway, in honor of our new staff member, we’re going to take a look at what happens when your starter-villain returns.
A starter-villain is, of course, the villain you fight on your first night out as a superhero. The costumed jaywalker whose swift defeat you use to springboard your career as a respected crime fighter. They will undoubtedly be the easiest villain to defeat that you come up against. As you become more experienced and proficient in superheroism, you’ll look back at your first fight fondly and laugh about all the ways the fight could have ended even quicker than it already did now that you’ve learned and grown a whole bunch. As time goes on and you fight more and more supervillains, eventually meeting your one true nemesis and a whole slew of other villains that you’ll tango with on a regular basis, you’ll even forget who your starter-villain even was. ||I’ve been a starter-villain to over 30 superheroes, and even though I send each of them a holiday card every year, I’ve only ever gotten one response.|| But, as Smuggles just demonstrated, your starter-villain will never forget you. And soon enough, once they’re ready, they’ll ensure that you never forget them again. ||The one response was from Hatman and he just sent a card saying “New phone, who dis?” Like, it was a postcard, a signed postcard. A signed personalized postcard. It said “Hatty Holidays!” and everything!||
It’s very possible that the starter-villain you defeated was also just starting out their costumed career. A crushing defeat on their first night is sure to sit with them, (supervillains being notoriously obsessive, dramatic, and good at remembering how they got their various scars), and they’re going to stew with that for a good while. Even if it wasn’t their first night of attempted-villainy, a defeat by a rookie superhero is sure to make them a laughing stock in the supervillain community. And you know what that means... ||Years of unanswered holiday cards||... revenge.
Your starter-villain will soon come to see you as their nemesis. Even though you’re perfectly happy with the eternal battle of good versus evil that you’ve already got going on with your actual nemesis. They aren’t going to care that you’re already seeing somebody (off to prison in handcuffs). They’re going to want you for their own. They’re going to spend every waking moment of their life plotting against you. Taking the time to really learn everything there is to know about you. This is just one more reason why it’s so important to to make sure your secret identity is ironclad before you start your superhero career. Because as soon as you defeat your first villain, there’s going to be someone out there working to uncover who you really are. ||Honestly, most superheroes don’t even bother trying to keep their secret identity from me. Many of them have just walked up to me and introduced themselves like “Hi, I’m Joe.” It’s kind of insulting.||
For that reason you’d do well to keep tabs on your starter-villain after you defeat them that first night. Their quest for revenge will start immediately and their scheme is just going to grow more and more protracted and elaborate the longer you let things lie. If you’ve already lost track of your starter-villain and it’s been a few years since you’ve been a superhero, I’d start shoring up your defenses. The longer you go without hearing from them, the worse it’s going to be when they eventually rear their ugly ||that’s just rude|| heads again. So put out some feelers, try to find out what they’re up to. If you can’t track them down through your superhero network of contacts, you can even try reaching out to your nemesis to see if they can help. Depending on how obsessive and vindictive your starter-villain is, your current nemesis might also find themselves in your starter-villain’s crosshairs. If you literally have no idea who your starter-villain is, sorry, you’re just going to have be on high alert all the time.
You may discover that your starter-villain has since turned over a new leaf and is actually now operating as a superhero or working with a superhero-adjacent organization such as the OPG. On the surface that makes sense, I mean, they were barely a supervillain to begin with. So the jump to superheroism is not as extreme as it would be for say Al “Da Boss” Marconi, or Karallaxus destroyer of worlds. But even though it might make sense for a starter-villain to have become a superhero, you must not believe it even for one second. Even if some part of a starter-villain truly wants to be better, you can be sure that an even bigger part of them actually just wants revenge on their starter-hero and joining the superhero community is just one of many increasingly inane steps in their protracted revenge scheme.
The only way to truly dissuade a returned starter-villain from dogging you forever and always is to either die or pretend you did. Otherwise they will track you down and hunt you to the ends of the known universe. ||And don’t forget the multiverse, Chuck the Fish Whisperer may be consigned to another universe, but that doesn’t mean his hatred has diminished one iota.|| Exactly! A starter-villain will stop at nothing until they’ve repaired their reputation in the form of destroying the person or people who tarnished it in the first place.
Defeating your first supervillain is an important milestone in the life of any superhero. Unfortunately, it is also an important milestone in the life of that very supervillain, whose life will become utterly subsumed by their embarrassing defeat at your inexperienced hands. Smuggles here is really the exception that proves the rule. ||Wait what?|| Normally, starter-villains become exponentially more dangerous by the time you next encounter them. So you must never underestimate a villain just because you beat them when you were a little kid wearing garish tights and you happened to be doing parkour near your convenience store right when it was being robbed. So why don’t you all take a moment now to check in on your starter-villain and make sure that you’re still able to beat them!
(All right, that’s a wrap on How To Hero #296. Great job everyone, we’ll see you next week.)
||Um.||
(Oh hey, Smugs. Good work today I guess. In the future we all prefer it when the supervillain correspondent kind of harasses Zach a bit, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you’re a bit lackluster compared to Dr. Brainwave.)
||Oh well-||
(You know, I didn’t even want to hire you. I was gunning for Snipey McSkullface. That guy has style.)
||In the form of a skull face-tattoo, yes, I’m familiar with him.||
(Anyway, did you need something from me?)
||Er, yes. I was told that this position came with housing?||
(Oh yes definitely it does! You get to move into our super sweet basement! Right this way, follow me.)
||Thank you, it’s tough out there for a costumed smuggler. So I’m kind of in between homes at the moment.||
(Oh yeah? Wearing a distinctive bright costume makes smuggling more difficult? Who would’ve thunk.)
||Sigh.||
(Did you just say “sigh”?)
||So this basement...||
(Oh yeah! Dr. Brainwave used to live there, you know before he exploded, so a lot of his junk is still down there, but don’t worry we did our best to clear out the mutant alligators.)
||What do you mean you did your best?||
(Listen Smugs, at the end of the day mutant alligators will be mutant alligators if you catch my meaning.)
||I’m not sure I do...||
(Ha! Classic Smugs, anyway enjoy your new digs I’ll see you around.)
||Sure... thanks||
||Wow, they really left everything just as it was. All of Dr. Brainwave’s equipment and machinery is still here. This couldn’t have gone better... Now if I just fire up this thing ah, nope, that’s just a feed that shows what everyone else in this building is thinking about. Not what I’m looking for, but I’ll come back for that later maybe... Oh gross, you know what this thing should be burned. Now let’s see, shrink ray, precarious stack of explosives, ah! Here it is! The interdimensional warp gate generator. Excellent. Now, if I just power it up, and set it to the proper frequency. Yes... Yes! Yes it’s working! Oh now they’ll rue the day they disrespected Smuggles. Each of them will pay dearly for how they treated me... now that you’re back old frien-||
Hey, Smuggles? Oh good, Parenthesis Guy got you settled in, just wanted to thank you for your great work today and to check if you needed anythi- What are you doing.
||Oh Zach! Hello! What do you mean?||
Why is there a warp gate open in my basement? What are you doing with that thing?
||Taking my foul revenge on you and everybody else who ever slighted me! The world will crumble before me and my ally!!!||
Listen, if this is about the jokes, I’m sorry about that, but you really don’t want to do this. Trust me, this isn’t going to end well for any of us.
||It certainly won’t end well for you and all of your superhero friends. Ah, there he is. Welcome back, Chuck the Fish Whisperer.||
Oh... this is bad.

ok-yikes replied to your post: diefordarkseid replied to your post: ...
ok but like thank u sm for the link i’ve been vaguely following your winston/billions content and ive been trying to find the context without having to watch the whole thing lmao so now i can fully understand ur analysis and art that i already enjoy!!
oh first of aw!!!! that’s such a compliment lol ty and yes s/o to @winstonthequant for posting that compilation for 5.5k+ people to partake in, it’s super useful
yeah we Jest that all anyone needs to know to understand the Spirit Of Wynnstanning is to have seen those scenes with winston and taylor from kompenso, ep 3x11 lol.....i mean it’s partially a joke but it’s also partially true, that’s pretty much the Cause of the group of us going “oh my god” and becoming Invested in all of this. winnie n tay baby.......their Dynamique...they are way too good Ugh
and yeah the Broadest Of Strokes of this series overall is that the Central Theme is "insufferable bastard hedge fund ceo damian lewis [aka axe] man Versus insufferable bastard attorney general paul giamatti man [aka chuck],” just these corrupt assholes having a back and forth slapfight power struggle every season. nobody cares what happens in season 1 but taylor is introduced at the start of season 2 as a just-out-of-undergrad intern at axe’s hedge fund. turns out they’re amazing at hedge funding (they have some goddamn sense and strategy and awareness, whereas axe is 100% beholden to the whims of his own Delicate Temper and Ego and is a continually self-sabotaging idiot, nbd) and by season 3, while axe is doing a bit of jail time over insider trading (see: previous parenthetical) taylor is left effectively in charge of axe’s hedge fund, which btw is called axe capital
Our Beloved Quant Winston enters the picture 3 eps into this situation, where taylor is attempting to start a quant team at axe cap, hence interviewing him, then only known as “quant kid 2″ in the credits. [not-that-informed explanation of What Is A Quant: where the Traditional Financial Analysts in a hedge fund try to make profitable stonk trades just via like, reacting to The News and other publically available info / whipping up Strategies / intuiting shit and making judgment calls or whatever the hell they do, a Quantitative Analyst (a more recent development in the high finance world) is taking a more mathematical approach to the whole legal gambling operation which is The Stock Market and might, as winston does, use An Algorithm to analyze finance info and make trades in response. is the vague idea here] Quant Kid 2 was not Originally meant to ever reappear, hence him just messing up the interview and getting sent off after like 30 seconds, but they wrote him in further when William Roland showed up and actually filmed the scene.
when “i’m a shitty bastard driven by my shitty ego and will self-sabotage if my Pride asks for it on a whim” axe shows back up, tl;dr, he spends the rest of s3 being terrible and unappreciative to taylor, who you might imagine is Threatening That Delicate Ego of his by capably taking care of his hedge fund while he was indisposed. for example, he needlessly wrecks taylor’s relationship with a guy they were having a nice time dating (and will, we’re pretty sure, talk to again in s5ep2!! hoorayy) and does basically the opposite of apologizing, sweeps taylor’s Quant Project into the trash, gets mad at them for failing to land a certain investor which he said they did on purpose which idk they May Have lol i think this was later in the season, and won’t give them the raise they want, and that’s just A Few of the bullet points in this topic. but oops, turns out that taylor has been secretly taking steps to put together their own entirely separate hedge fund! which is where winston comes back in, aka their meeting him in that empty classroom only to summon him to a random basement. that algorithm he ends up creating for them (which he’d Assumed was for axe cap purposes) was used by taylor to entice a Big Investor at axe cap to invest in their own hedge fund, taylor mason capital, which exists by the end of season 3, which obviously axe is not happy about and of course it’s a whole ~betrayal~ even though he did it to himself but no, he decides taylor is his Nemesis, b/c in so many ways he is a dumbass. god
season 4 has winston as taylor’s Main Quant (the one time we hear his name spoken aloud is taylor saying “winston and the quant team). taylor spends the season dealing with all the problems of having a Brand New Hedge Fund and having a Well Established Hedge Fund With An Asshole At The Helm constantly trying to sabotage their fund, which we also call tmc / mase cap for short, just for reference lmao, the latter being how they shorten it in the show’s actual dialogue. the Front Running mentioned in that one clip was an instance of such sabotage. and by the time winston shows up 5 eps later, that Fracking Subplot (lmao...this fucking show) was about taylor being reeeeal sick of axe cap’s sabotage b/c they kinda made it personal, and thus spending the whole episode Completely playing axe for a fool, which was kinda fun, b/c it’s not that hard and he has it coming. it gets a little involved with what’s going on in ep 4x11 with the bonuses lmfao but it's nbd, just know that winston was right, we went frantic about him being Bullied and are still indignant about it, and taylor talking to Everyone in that 4x12 clip does seem to address what winston had said, compare and contrast 4 yourselves, even if this apparently went totally over the heads of any Regular Billions Viewers lmao. and then in 4x12 A Lot Happens b/c it’s the finale but axe manages to self-sabotage himself in a way that does a lot of damage for mase cap though, and axe thinks that he’s successfully blackmailed taylor into returning to axe cap with mase cap as a Supposedly Temporary subsidiary of axe cap, which sucks, but taylor is not as blackmailed as he thinks, which is a secret, Drama and Twists and Shifting / Dubious Loyalties and Stonks are just constant themes here and who cares. we are here for the quant, who is there with taylor
We Have Many Ideas / wise concepts and headcanons, seeing as canon is a nightmare and there’s not That much material re: winston and precious few details about him / he spends sooo much time offscreen and unmentioned and it leaves us plenty of blanks to fill in. for example, maybe u noticed we think he should kiss taylor and also get railed by them, there are extensive ideas about that relationship wherein we happily ignore Finance. also, there is an unusually kind and reasonable analyst over at axe cap named ben kim who we also think should kiss winston, so yeah That idea is sure around as well lol, they have enough Parallels and complementary Similarities and Contrasts and also just like, a normal nice person is a rarity on this show, so ben does Not have a world of competition in our [list of people who’d be Okay to kiss winston, b/c someone should, b/c he deserves that cuz we love him]
yeah that’s my Quick Basic Context summary lmao we hate it here but also we have fun, and really at any time (extending this to anyone lol) feel free to Send An Ask about anything at all b/c i am Not annoyed by random / unprompted asks from anybody, i love interaction! who knows if i’ll answer promptly (for example: sorry @ the person who’s asked for deh/bmc hcs who i havent answered yet lol) but yeah. it’s totally nice that you were already interested even without any Context lmao like. i mean yeah basically the joke still stands that the only context u truly need is that one scene from Kompenso but. yeah #Stonks

Need a handy way to bring your favorite character back from the dead?
So do I, mine keep getting killed off.
so here’s a handy list, some from media that I can reference off hand. References/explanations in (here):
European Clinics (Chuck, 1x10 Versus the Nemesis, Bryce Larkin quotes is as his reason for not dying)
Actually, doesn’t have to be just European. Think of anyone in canon with lots of money and connections to squirrel away the character in question.
Lazarus Pit (DC Comics, controlled by the League of Assassins. Comes up in Arrow and Nolan’s Batman Trilogy. Also, the Pit corrupts the person placed in, driving them slightly insane. If I’m reading the idea right, everyone that is placed in gains a bit of other souls and loses a bit of theirs, which drive them slight made. Might be only my take.)
Demon deals. (Supernatural is the major example of this. There may be others.)
Super Blood (By this, I mean Vampire - True Blood and BTVS, Augment - Star Trek ID. Some supernatural or higher being. Blood = magickal life properties)
Also, magic and magick. (Magic as in illusions, a second body, a disappearing person in a cloud of smoke or in fire. Magick as in black arts, as in dragging the soul back, reanimating the body and forcing it to start working again.)
Add your own, please. I need more ideas.

There's also a darker contrast in how their respective answers to life's problems are rooted in a kind of selfishness.
Edelgard's is more grandiose and obvious (especially if you chuck the localization out the window wholesale): A "revolution" that's a big fat pretense about bringing the glory days of the Empire back, believing that they set the best example for the continent, believing that those dreaded dragons ruined everything for humanity, but also her, a woman who was spoiled and traumatized in equal measure. She believes she has all the answers because the Empire's warped history and what her father told her were correct, and because TWSITD's own history is very much against dragonkind and views Nemesis as an ally and tool, well, she's better off for it in a way. She has the slimiest and most dependable right-hand man for the job and could care less about the kinds of allies she has, unless they completely fall under her thrall the way Byleth does (if you don't accept the flagrant player-pandering that it's more meant to be, anyway).
Claude's is far more well-meaning - he almost has his nose turned up at Fodlan very early on in the story, as he believes that it's the church's influence alone that makes them cagey towards foreigners. Unlike Edelgard, he actually does change this view, moreso on his own route, as his dogged persistence yields him the truth behind some of the deepest wounds that Fodlan bears. Even then, most of his dreams stem from his own personal trauma of being persecuted and abused in Almyra by his family, and he views prejudices almost in a manner than can be vaguely described as "Fodlan vs. Almyra, and maybe the rest of the world." Note how he interacts with Fodlan's non-natives versus their natives, or how he notably diverts the subject of borders during the infamous scene at Myrddin - the scene where Cyril objects to being used as part of his agenda. He also doesn't pay much mind to the situation of said other foreigners (Petra and Brigid being the Empire's colony, Duscur, etc), although there'd probably be another DLC's worth of content to unpackage with that. Unlike Edelgard, though, Claude does genuinely care for the people around him, and while he still ultimately has Byleth act as his biggest chess piece, he also comes to care (or even love!) for her as a person. He's playing tug-of-war with his feelings for others, while Edelgard has no interest in doing so.
Dimitri may contrast Edelgard in how he asserts the need for unity and peace, his kindness versus her aloofness, feminine blue versus masculine red, his violence born from extreme empathy versus her lack of empathy - but he also contrasts her and Claude in how he wishes to reform only his Kingdom first and foremost - the fallout of the war was the only way that his wishes extended towards the rest of the continent. He initially doesn't do it for some selfish motivation, but because he wants to do right by others, protect others - and as it just so happens, helping others is his personal wish. In fact, his trauma being pushed to extremes was what it took to drown him in an extremely selfish goal in the first place (muderkilling Edelgard), and furthermore, he never thought he had the right to have any kind of self-fulfilling desire for himself. There's also the bonus of how he wishes immensely to restore Duscur's dignity, and this amiability extends towards outside of Fodlan should he take the throne.
I guess you can frame it as Edelgard vs. Claude, but also Edelgard vs. Dimitri in that Edelgard is selfishness incarnate and doesn't care, while Dimitri is selflessness incarnate and has to be taught that it's okay to be selfish in moderation (i.e tamper that revenge boner). Claude is also selfish in a way, but he also knows how to be selfless and wants to be selfless in regards to companions, but is also terrified of being shunned.
Brain vomit!
I know Dimitri and Edelgard are constrasted a lot in the story but I think Claude is meant to be her true contrast. He pretends to be a huge liar, she really is one, they have very similar end boss cutscene music, and they both want to unify the world but he wants to do it through acceptance and understanding and she wants to do it by force. If this has already been said on here, sorry
Oh yeah and another thing Edelgard and Claude have in common is their retainers are manipulative people. Obviously in different ways, Hilda charms people into doing what she wants because she’s lazy and Hubert threatens people into doing what he wants because he’s evil but I thought it was an interesting commonality
It has been, but I don't mind talking about it again lol it's interesting! Claude likes to talk big about how he'll do anything to win and how he's only ever out for himself, but looking at his actions it's obvious that he genuinely cares a lot for people and will makes sure they're safe. In comparison, Edelgard will talk about how she really cares for the weak but looking at her actions it's clear that she just sees the people as a means to an end. Claude wants to know the whole truth of Fodlan and sets out to search for it (and succeeds in doing so), meanwhile Edelgard thinks she knows the whole truth and thus never searches for anything about it (and never learns the real truth). Both think they have their dream locked down, but only Claude ever gets challenged about it and made to see that he was being narrowminded about his dreams while Edelgard never is. Like you mentioned, he wants peace through peaceful means while Edelgard wants "peace" through extreme violence. Claude wants to keep the Church around for those that need it, Edelgard believes the Church should be abandoned in favor of complete independence regardless of who needs it.
There's more, but you get the idea. As much as the game wants to say that they're not that different in the end, they are very different - that's what makes their dynamic so interesting!
But the idea of them contrasting even in their retainers is very interesting, because it goes a little deeper than what you said! I never thought about it before, but thinking on it some I can see it! Hilda manipulates people by making them feel as though they're being helpful when they do her work for her and she makes sure they feel good when they do, while Hubert will make those he manipulates know that he is the one in control and makes sure that they know they can't do anything but do what he wants them to or else. It's not so much the reason why they manipulate that's what makes them different (in a substantial way at least), but the means in which they do so

Note
Do you have a list / can you make a list of everything Matt was in (even if it's for only five seconds) so i can satisfy my ultimate need?
Having a BS in Education and a MA in Library/Archives and an overwhelming need to please people and a slight case of OCD makes it almost impossible for me to not answer these types of questions in a ridiculously comprehensive manner.
Anyway, gather ‘round, Children, and Behold! – A Matt Bomer Mattsterpost! I’ll be adding to it as my energy and motivation permits.
Note: I don’t have links for everything, especially the newer TV shows and the movies. Sorry about that. I only linked to where you can steam or download something. The movies and newer TV shows you can pretty easily find elsewhere, either legally by buying or renting on Amazon/iTunes, or illegally via torrents. Whichever is your jam. Just don’t ask me for torrent links. I will not provide them. I don’t want to be blamed for viruses or trackers!

Chuck Vs. Chuck Versus the Nemesis
Another very solid episode from Chuck. Here is my spoiler filled list of everything I liked and didn’t like.
What I liked!
1. I’m glad Morgan found and that they feel comfortable enough to make out in the Buy More in front of people. It was both hilarious and gross all at once.
2. They spoke more Klingon!!!!
3. “...kill some random person, that’d be terrible.” That bit was so awesome. And then after Bryce drugged Chuck and he saw Casey’s face and was like, “Not pretty. Ugly.” That was great. I love it when they make for of Casey.
4. I really like that the word that cannot be spoken is pineapple. Also being a Psych fan has made me look forward to hearing or seeing anything about that fruit.
5. Casey was drinking a cosmopolitan. He seems like a whiskey type of guy, so I love that he’s drinking a kind fruity drink.
6. Morgan was the only one at Thanksgiving not dressed up. That totally fits his character and was funny to see.
7. And then Awesome was really into Casey’s muscles. It was totally only there to distract Casey from what Sarah was doing, but it was still great.
8. I really want to know how Bryce was just chilling above Chuck’s bedroom door. That was really cool and badass.
9. I love what Chuck was thankful for. “...dark and specific.” It was a nice moment.
10. The sex sounds Morgan was making when eating Ellie’s food was really over the top and kind of uncomfortable, but it was still funny and I enjoyed it. Maybe it would have been better had Ellie’s face not been as happy as she was.
11. I really liked when Morgan recognized Bryce and how he lied his way through it. It was a cool, unexpected moment.
12. Of course the registers are from the 80s. They have to stay up to date with the TV in the breakroom!
13. That car crash surprised the crap out of me. It was awesome. I totally forgot that that was coming.
14. I like that the bad guys said they’d kill everyone in the Buy More. That’s a nice, ruthless kind of bad guy we don’t always get to see.
15. Morgan dropped that huge box on Jeff’s head and then the megaphone. This goes in the “someone gets hit in the face every episode” thing I’ve talked about. It hasn’t happened EVERY episode, but it does not disappoint when it shows up.
16. I loved that Chuck pointed out that some kid totally could have found the gun table thing in the home theater room. I remember thinking the same thing the first time I watched it.
17. Bryce shot Chuck. That was cool.
18. And the the NSA were firefighters. That was a nice touch. A little unrealistic, but nice nonetheless.
19. I really liked how the episode ended with both Bryce and Chuck calling at the same time. It was a coincidence, but it was metaphor and it was a good one. That was an okay thing to do.
What I didn’t like!
1. Why were the Nerd Herders security this year? It’s clear that all the Herders have worked there for a while now and if the Herders need training that means that this security idea for them is knew. So what did they do last year that they couldn’t do this year?
2. Of course Chuck sees Sarah and Bryce kissing. He just happened to walk over there at just the right time.
3. Why did Bryce go right to Casey’s apartment? There’s a really good chance that Casey was going to go there or that someone was. It was a n00b move on his end and he shouldn’t be doing stuff like that.
4. Hey look! The bad guy has a scar on his face so we know who the bad guy is! How nice of the show to do that for us.
5. The CIA dudes who came to pick up Bryce were super obvious. They even had the obvious earpiece thing. I know they weren’t supposed to be blending it, but it was a bit too much.
6. There is no way that Sarah and Bryce could have gotten up that fast after the car crash. Besides the fact that they were just in a car crash, that dude would have either seen or heard them. They aren’t THAT ninja.
7. So either Bryce walked into the home theater room with a tuxedo, just in case, had it on already for some weird reason, or they gave it to him while video calling his boss. None of those make sense. He did not need that tuxedo on unless the thing he was going to was at Large Mart.
Other things!
1. I never knew marsh potatoes with marshmallows was a thing. I would like to try it now.
2. The very end of the intro, is how the episode should have started.
They didn’t really need to call the episode Vs. the Nemesis since Bryce is no longer Chuck’s nemesis. But whatever. This episode still rocked it.
