Hemispherical Combustion Chambers Weren't Just a Gimmick: The Chrysler Hemi engine is renowned for its hemispherical combustion chambers, which provide an efficient shape with an excellent surface-to-volume ratio and minimal heat loss.
Three Generations: There have been three generations of Hemi engines: the FirePower series (1951-1958), the legendary 426 Hemi (1964-1971), and the modern Hemis (2003-2024).
FirePower Series: The first-generation Hemi, known as the FirePower series, had displacements ranging from 241 to 392 cubic inches and was produced from 1951 to 1958.
426 Hemi Nickname: The 426 Hemi, produced from 1964 to 1971, earned the nickname "elephant engine" due to its large size and heavy weight.
426 Hemi Power: The 426 Hemi was rated at 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, although actual dynamometer testing showed it could produce even more.
Racing Heritage: The 426 Hemi was initially developed for NASCAR racing and made its debut in the Plymouth Belvedere in 1964.
Street Hemi: Chrysler introduced the "Street Hemi" in 1966, making the powerful 426 Hemi available to the general public in various Dodge and Plymouth models.
426 Hemi in Drag Racing: The 426 Hemi dominated NHRA and AHRA drag racing, with its large casting allowing it to be overbored and stroked to displacements unattainable by other engines of the era.
426 Hemi in Iconic Cars: The 426 Hemi was used in some of the most iconic muscle cars, including the 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda, the Dodge Charger Daytona, and the Plymouth Superbird.
High Compression: The 426 Hemi had a high compression ratio of 10.25:1 in the street version and 12.5:1 in the racing version, requiring high-octane fuel to avoid pre-ignition.
Dual Four-Barrel Carburetors: The 426 Hemi featured dual inline four-barrel Carter AFB carburetors, contributing to its high power output.
Advanced Rocker Arm Geometry: The Hemi engine's complex valve train and large, wide cylinder heads required advanced rocker arm geometry, making it more expensive and challenging to build.
Military Origins: Chrysler's experience with hemispherical combustion chambers began with their development of the XIV-2220 engine for the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft during World War II.
M47 Patton Tank: Chrysler also used hemispherical combustion chamber technology in the air-cooled AV-1790-5B V12 Hemi engine for the M47 Patton tank.
Modern Hemi Engines: The third-generation Hemi engines, produced from 2003 to 2024, featured advanced technologies and displacements between 5.7 and 6.4 liters, continuing the legacy of high performance.

Lamborghini P140, 1989, by the Chrysler Design Center. The P140 project had been begun before Chrysler took over Lamborghini in 1987, this was Chrysler's proposal for a new entry level Lamborghini. It was passed over in favour of Bertone's proposal. However eventually Chrysler pulled the plug on the P140 before selling Lamborghini on to the Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V Power Corporation.

🇺🇲 Journey back to 2006 and witness the unveiling of The Chrysler Imperial concept car, a stunning homage to luxury and design!
🛠️ The Chrysler Imperial concept car made its grand debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. Inspired by the grandeur of classic American luxury cars, the Imperial was designed to exude a sense of opulence and sophistication. It aimed to revive the prestigious Chrysler Imperial nameplate, which had a rich history dating back to the 1920s.
🔧 The concept car featured a commanding presence with its long wheelbase, stately proportions, and imposing grille. Its design paid tribute to the historic Chrysler Imperials of the mid-20th century, known for their elegance and advanced engineering. The large 22-inch wheels and bold lines were reminiscent of the brand’s legacy of combining luxury with power.
🚘 The interior of the Imperial concept car was nothing short of luxurious. It showcased plush leather seats, hand-crafted wood accents, and state-of-the-art technology. The spacious cabin was designed to provide unparalleled comfort, making every ride an experience in ultimate luxury. The rear seats were particularly notable for their limousine-like comfort, featuring reclining functionality and ample legroom.
⚙️ Under the hood, the Imperial concept was powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, delivering robust performance to match its grand exterior. This powerful engine was paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive. The car's suspension was tuned for a smooth ride, aligning with the luxury expectations of the Imperial name.
📜 The Chrysler Imperial nameplate has a storied history. First introduced in 1926, the Imperial was Chrysler’s top-of-the-line vehicle, intended to compete with other luxury brands such as Cadillac and Lincoln. Throughout its production years, the Imperial was known for its innovative features, luxurious interiors, and powerful engines. The 1955 Chrysler Imperial was the first to be marketed as a separate brand, emphasizing its premium status. Notable models like the 1961 Imperial LeBaron and the 1981 Imperial featured cutting-edge designs and technology that set industry standards.
💼 Although the Chrysler Imperial concept car never made it to production, it left a lasting impression on automotive enthusiasts and industry experts. It served as a bold statement of Chrysler's vision for the future of luxury vehicles, blending timeless design with modern innovation. The concept also highlighted Chrysler's commitment to its rich heritage while looking forward to new possibilities.
📸 The concept Chrysler Imperial from 2006 remains a captivating piece of automotive history, symbolizing a moment when bold ideas and exquisite craftsmanship came together to create a truly memorable vehicle. It stands as a testament to Chrysler's enduring legacy in the luxury automotive market.

As someone who has lived in the south where the water trough is anywhere from mildly annoying to actively terrifying, who has lived on a fairly decently sized island where it is indeed absolutely terrifying to be cut off from the mainland suddenly with little to no help from the government for an extended period of time--
After No Man's Land and all the issues that arose then, I'd like to propose the new way of interring their dead would be mausoleums. Possibly especially with Gotham canonically existing on a system of caves. An island made of caves on the East Coast that gets battered by hurricanes almost every year is just asking to get sunk a la Atlantis but its fucking Gotham and i think the Gothamites would raise it from the sea floor again out of sheer spite.
But with mausoleums you:
Dont have your son crawling six feet through packed dirt after inexplicably coming back to life
Dont have long buried coffins and corpses getting flooded/shaken/otherwise disturbed and shunted into the water system/streets/underground reservoirs (or Lazarus Pits, since there's one of those down there too, as if Gotham didn't have enough things wrong with it)
Continues the Gotham aesthetic
Have more places for various characters to have a private mental breakdown in
Have more places for various characters to find ominous warnings etched or graffiti'd on the walls
Have more places for things much older than the mausoleums have been En Vogue™ for to inexplicably appear and send shivers down the spine
The Gothamites are very firm about not really being part of the US. The US kind of looks at the South like we're really fucking strange, and the South looks at New Orleans like they've taken the South and concentrated it, carbonated it, and shook it really hard.
I want the same vibes for Gotham. This is their home. They are weird and stubborn to a fault and everything is on fire and the government is corrupt and the people aren't always good but nobody else understands. No one else ever could. Who else has seen the lights for rescue appear on the horizon only to see the light of death on the waters, ensuring no help would ever come? They are resourceful and violent and resentful but the gods won't help you if you cross one of their own.
#the stoneworkers built Gotham#if it existed in reality itd be a marvel of nature's construction#if No Man's Land went as it did it'd be the metalworkers and stone masons to build the city back up#and with the earthquake everyone would be utterly terrified to dig into the ground. not after having to excavate the subways.#Jason comes back to Gotham and it has Changed.#in the scant year(s?) between No Man's Land and Jason's return there are buildings gone and buildings entirely new#but look like they're a century old. because the stonemasons and metalworkers had to work with what they had.#and what they had was ruins and a lot of them had to work together to piece metal and stone together to make something unshakeable#gotham is the embodiment of the riches and ruins that was the 1920s in America and a lot of the architecture of the time#was either very practical or very maximalist#the Chrysler building in NYC was built in that era and is a shining example of both#so please imagine with me: cobbled stone hewn into fitted shapes‚ held together with radial metal lines curves.#i think later down the line Gotham U would be an architectural and civil engineering powerhouse#Gotham's architecture would be akin to that of a bunker. unshakeable. wind resistant. blast resistant.#composed of materials that make it easy to wipe everything down after a flood and continue on.#after Katrina my centuries old school literally mopped the walls and ushered us back in inside of two weeks#my family and i had been rescued from our island only days prior#shh ruby world building is not always for the tags

Matra Simca Bagheera brochure, 1974. A mid-rear engined sports car built by Matra for Simca/Chrysler Europe using the transverse drivetrain from the Simca 1100 moved to the rear wheels. The Bagheera's USP was the 3-seat configuration with the driver on the left. There was a sexist French joke that claimed the car was designed so that driver would have space for both his wife and his mistress.

🇺🇸 As we approach Chrysler's 100th anniversary, Frank B. Rhodes Jr., great-grandson of company founder Walter P. Chrysler, is raising concerns about the brand’s future and wants to take action to rescue it. In a recent open letter to “investors and workers,” Rhodes announced his plan to revitalize Chrysler and its related brands—Dodge, Ram, and Jeep—under new “American” ownership.
🚗 Stellantis, the current parent company of Chrysler, has come under criticism from Rhodes for its management of the brand, which he claims has been severely neglected. The Chrysler brand currently offers only one vehicle, the Pacifica minivan, while several promising concept cars, such as the Chrysler Airflow, were shelved before reaching production. Rhodes highlighted Stellantis’ focus on European brands like Citroën and Peugeot, arguing that Chrysler has been left behind.
💼 Rhodes, who has been a Chrysler ambassador for over 40 years, points to his family’s legacy and his own ownership of the final Chrysler 300C as reasons for his dedication to the brand. He submitted a 17-page proposal to Stellantis executives, inviting them to a confidential discussion on reviving Chrysler. His plan includes giving equity stakes to employees, echoing the worker-centered vision of his great-grandfather, who founded the company on principles of American ingenuity and innovation.
📉 Rhodes also expresses concern about the future of Dodge, which has focused heavily on electric vehicles (EVs) despite its core customer base being more interested in American muscle and performance cars. He argues that Stellantis’ push toward an all-electric lineup by 2028 for Chrysler is out of step with market trends, where hybrids are gaining popularity. The all-electric path, Rhodes warns, could be disastrous for the brand’s future.
🔧 Despite these challenges, Rhodes remains optimistic about the potential to rebuild Chrysler as a symbol of blue-collar luxury and innovation. He is calling for a return to American-designed and built products, and greater autonomy for Chrysler and Dodge within Stellantis. Rhodes’ ultimate goal is to rescue the brand from what he sees as poor management and ensure that Chrysler survives to celebrate its next century.
🚨 As Chrysler fans prepare for the 100th anniversary celebrations next summer, including a large event in Pennsylvania, Rhodes is urging action to prevent the brand from fading into obscurity. Without intervention, he warns, Chrysler’s future looks bleak.
