Invertober days 17-21: European glowworm (well, a dragon based on it), Anna’s magnificent sea slug, yellow tube sponge, three-banded lady beetle, and strawberry squid!
[Image description: Five digital drawings.
Image 1: A wingless dragon based on the European glowworm. Most of its body is a pale peachy colour, except for the blunt-tipped horns, claws, and armour scales going down its back which are all dark brown. Its eyes are a bright yellow-green, as are the four-pointed stars on the tip of its thick tail and horns. Text below: Arthropoda • Insecta • Coleoptera • Lampyridae • Lampyris noctiluca
Image 2: An Anna’s magnificent sea slug, a sea slug with a blue and black body surrounded by a yellow and white “fringe”. Its antennae and cerata are orange. Text below: Mollusca • Gastropoda • Nudibranchia • Chromodorididae • Chromodoris annae
Image 3: A yellow tube sponge. It looks exactly as its name would suggest. Text below: Porifera • Demospongiae • Verongiida • Aplysinidae • Aplysina fistularis
Image 4: A three-banded lady beetle, a ladybug with five rectangular bands instead of spots, one going across the middle and two pairs at the sides. Text below: Arthropoda • Insecta • Coleoptera • Coccinellidae • Coccinella trifasciata
Image 5: A strawberry squid. It is red with bright green eyes of different sizes, the left being significantly larger than the right. Text below: Mollusca • Cephalopoda • Oegopsida • Histioteuthidae • Histioteuthis heteropsis
End ID.]

Glossodoris cincta 😁 Вид морских слизней, голожаберных дорид и морских брюхоногих моллюсков семейства Chromodorididae без раковин. Название широко использовалось для группы видов с похожей окраской, некоторые из которых не имеют названий.

@most-definitively-a-human
He is wearing pajamas!
Scared. Can't articulate why/express properly. Scared.
Neurology appointment soon. Hopefully will do something.
I think I'm getting worse.
Please brain let me write my story I want to write.
Request: nudibranchs or other lovely marine life/creatures if you have the energy/want to send.
If anyone has advice on how to write with weird neurological symptoms please I would love to hear it.
Will definitely need to pay for an editor. Can get the core of it down, hopefully, at least.

Goniobranchus reticulatus is a species of colorful sea slug or dorid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Chromodorididae. There is considerable disagreement amongst experts over the identity of Goniobranchus reticulatus. It has been widely reported from the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, but many of these records are now believed to be of distinct species.

Nudibranch Size comparison
We’re used to seeing nudies in close-up shots, which can make it difficult to tell their size. Here is a pic of a nudie (likely from the family Chromodorididae) with a thumb for scale.
NOTE: While this guy is tiny, nudibranchs range in size from 6 mm - 30 cm.

This is the flamant Sechuran Desert Nudibranch (Felimare sechurana), a recent described new species of seaslug from the Sechuran desert coastline of North Perú.
Tumblr media
- Illescas peninsula in northwestern Peru, where the new species was discovered. Photograph Yuri Hooker.
Previously mistaken with the California blue dorid (Felimare californiensis), a genetic and morfometric study found out it was a complete new species. The genetic difference between these two sea slug, could be the result of dispersal of members of an ancestral population across the tropical eastern Pacific during the repeated periods of glaciation during the Pleistocene (approximately 1 - 2 million years ago), followed by isolation.
Nudibranchs, often casually called sea slugs, are marine gastropod molluscs which shed their shells after their larval stage. Are found worldwide, and play a fundamental role as biological controllers of corals, anemones, hydrozoans and marine sponges.
