I was recently reunited with an old friend I thought I had lost. The Roland SH-101 was / is an #analog #monophonic #synthesizer that you could wear like a guitar. I always loved pitch bending techniques like Jan Hammer - mimicking guitar riffs. I stole a lot from Hendrix, Page and Zappa. Armed with with a #wireless unit, I used to run out into the crowd while taking #solos, even going outside the venue sometimes to mess with the people on line or people driving by. I played this poor thing till it didn’t work anymore, probably up until about 1993. It occurred to me today, Father’s Day, that my father bought it for me, along with a little Roland keyboard amp, right after I left Chubby Checker’s band in 1983. Thanks Dad. I think I will try to get this thing working again. If you heard a rumor that there will be a #WadePrestonBand #reunion and a couple #solo shows on the west coast in #September ... it’s true. North Torrance, #HermosaBeach, and #PacificBeach (#SanDiego) so far. We’ll see how much I / we can cram into a couple weeks plus ... The original Wade Preston Band plays Forgive Yourself for the first time in over two decades, and dare I say, I think we sound pretty good! @christopellani on drums and #JohnMeadows on bass. The #710BeachClub in #PacificBeach CA used to be called #BlindMelons and it was one of the main places I played throughout the early 90’s, solo and with the band. Crazy days, those were.
