I was recently reunited with an old friend I thought I had lost. The Roland SH-101 was / is an #analog #monophonic #synthesizer that you could wear like a guitar. I always loved pitch bending techniques like Jan Hammer - mimicking guitar riffs. I stole a lot from Hendrix, Page and Zappa. Armed with with a #wireless unit, I used to run out into the crowd while taking #solos, even going outside the venue sometimes to mess with the people on line or people driving by. I played this poor thing till it didn’t work anymore, probably up until about 1993. It occurred to me today, Father’s Day, that my father bought it for me, along with a little Roland keyboard amp, right after I left Chubby Checker’s band in 1983. Thanks Dad. I think I will try to get this thing working again.
