MERRY KRISIS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE 🤸‍♀️🎄🥳
all i want for christmas are crumbs for a retconned mw4 announcement 🤠🤠
-----------------
The last time Kyle found himself wandering through the storied halls of Ministry of Sound was for a mate’s bachelor party when he was fresh out of college.
Actually not quite—vague memories from his days as a cop hazily re-emerged, bringing back the blur of him clearing out a rave that damn near turned into a riot into slight focus.
But now, on this particular evening, he was here to escort you to an industry party hosted by your label–a celebration of signing their 100th artist ever. All talents, their plus ones and their entourages were invited to attend.
There was some understandable hesitancy from your end–your plans to dedicate the day solely to rehearsal was now cut short thanks to this. However, by Pearl’s sharp tongue, it was essentially orders for you to show up.
You wouldn’t be alone though, of course.
“Not while I’m here.” Kyle reassured you during the car ride over. “Whenever you feel scared or overwhelmed, you tell me, yeah?”
He offered you his hand.
Your fingers linked with his for a gentle squeeze.
“Thank you, Kyle.”
He stuck to his word, of course.
No matter where you went, he was right by you within reach–in the sense that he would pull you right against him in the case of anyone trying to be too handsy or pull you over for an unwarranted selfie. Overfamiliar strangers and cousins of a cousin, acquaintances of a manager you’ve maybe spoken 10 words max to–names were being dropped like London rainfall while he wandered around the club with you.
Much to his surprise, Pearl actually appeared before and by you rather frequently–if only to haul you over to the next executive or have you take pictures with newer artists. This only solidified more and more that your manager served more as a mobile arm of your label and executing their interests rather than your own needs as an individual artist.
The jokes of a coup-d'état among him and the guys were definitely going to become more frequent once he updated them on tonight’s happenings.
Though, what soon happened was something he felt would only fuel flames of envy among the three.
It was drawing closer to midnight and most of the party was at its liveliest. Drinks pouring, NDAs breaking, music bumping–the energy was infectious.
And yet, Kyle watched as you continue to quietly stir away at the watered down rum and coke that was handed to you by one of the A&R leads–the same one who helped you get signed on as a solo act once you left 4EVA.
That shifting bounce was back again, your eyes glancing over to the dancefloor where everyone else was frolicking around without a care in the world.
But he knew that you had some cares–the same ones that were keeping you anchored by the back wall of the club. The tour, how you fit in with the rest of the crowd–they were concerns he picked up here and there, whether a phone conversation you had  with Priscilla thought to be in privacy, or from the way you worded your answers in recent interviews.
You looked trapped and all Kyle wanted to do was free you from whatever was holding you back.
Suddenly, your glass was in his hands and your confused gaze was on his face.
Smiling cheekily at you, he then pointed his finger straight towards the dancefloor, his voice raised to elevate himself over the music. “Doll! Show them how it’s done!”
You pointed at yourself. “‘Me’?”
“Yes you!” His pointed finger shifted attention towards your way while he quickly set your glass down on the floor. “I know you wanna dance, girlie!” He affirmed, bringing his other hand to rest on your shoulder with a reassuring shake. “Come on–get that energy outta your system and show them why you’re the world’s it girl right now!”
Your eyes lingered on his face, studying his expression, the warm kindness being exuded to you.
The hesitation on your face left with the sigh you released as your arms folded over your puffed out chest as you declared, “Only if you dance with me!”
“‘Me’?” A knock at his bravado with a glimpse at genuine shock.
But then, both of your hands found their way to his, holding tight while you stared up into his eyes, a sparkle in your irises.
“There’s only one Kyle I’d want to dance with tonight!”
Cupid had him in a chokehold at this point.
Dancing with the world’s biggest pop star while also working as her bodyguard–like a bloody romcom film, this all was.
But if the leading role was open, then so be it.
Flicking his head towards the crowds, he grinned at you. “Lead the way then, boss.”
The relief that washed over your face at his acceptance made his heart swell and his feet take off after you while he followed you into the dancefloor.
This was no longer watching you from afar during your tech rehearsal, watching your skin glisten with sweat as your tank top clung to your curves.
The scent of your perfume, the heat of your body, the breathless giggles of his name, the twinkle in your eyes, the juicy sheen of gloss on your lips–all up close, all within reach, all for him.
A selfish thought.
But it was all part of a shared greed that he could sense was developing among him and the others as well. Johnny would bemoan over any adjusted hours ( “She’s so much more relaxed when I’m around though!”) , Simon was rigid over being swapped out in favor of a different guard (“Do you want ‘er to be protected properly or not?” ), and Price–the one in charge of schedules in the first place–was usually one to give himself more favorable roles ( “A woman like her for a dinner like this could use an older gentleman like me, after all.” )
To be tied to you at practically every hour of the day seemed like a demanding task at first, but now it was becoming difficult to ever be apart from you.
For now, however, he would savor this time, this night with you. As you guided him to the dancefloor, his hands intertwined with yours, Kyle felt more and more in his soul that he would gladly walk to the ends of the Earth for you.

hello! i don't know anything about digital art or tablets but it's something i'd like to try out. i was wondering if you know of any affordable tablets that you don't have to hook up to a computer?
So the fortunate thing is that tablets have gotten a LOT cheaper especially with other companies like Huion and XP-Pen stepping up to offer competitive prices compared to Wacom, which is notoriously expensive.
That said, the unfortunate thing is that the cheapest tablets on the market are the ones that you have to hook up to a PC (these are typically desk tablets, i.e. the ones that you basically use as a computer mouse because there are no screens built in to them).
There are PC tablets where they're all in one PC's that offer tablet screens (I used to use a Cintiq Companion 2 which was exactly that) but they're INCREDIBLY expensive and honestly, not much better than just getting an entry level PC and screen tablet / monitor + desk tablet. It's definitely not something you'd want to get if you haven't tried out digital art before either, because there's a risk in that in and of itself - you haven't done it before, so you're not guaranteed to stick with it. And I say that because digital art in and of itself is a medium, there's a learning curve to it even if you already have foundational knowledge in traditional art (though that foundational knowledge will help a lot) and it's not as easy or simple as just pressing some buttons and making art appear. So the last thing you're gonna want to do is spend a whole bunch of money on a drawing tablet / digital art software if you wind up not liking it in the long run.
So I would say your best option for trying out digital art without losing out on a whole lot of money if you wind up not enjoying it (and if you want something that doesn't require hooking up to a PC) would be a Samsung tablet or iPad - and I say that because if you DON'T end up creating digital art in the long term, you'll still have a handy portable PC that you can use for other things. You can get iPads and Samsung tablets at used prices through pawn shops, local marketplaces, etc. or if you have strong rep with your phone company, you might be able to snag a deal next time you renew your phone plan (I would recommend checking around back-to-school season or Christmas/Black Friday/etc. as that's when phone companies offer crazy deals where you can get tablets and accessories basically for free LMAO)
Just make sure you do your research on what tablets offer what in terms of pen and software compatibility, some tablets don't work with pens, others only work with specific kinds of pens, etc. For iPads, you'll typically want something that will ideally work with the Apple Pencil 2, as that's the newest model of the Apple Pencil (and it has that fun way of charging where you can just stick the pen to the side of the tablet and it magnetizes/charges from your iPad's battery).
I can't really give advice on the Samsung tablets as I've never used them, so do your research for that one, there are loads of videos online that talk about all the different models and benefits. Just note that if you want to use Procreate specifically, you'll need an iPad as it's an iOS-only app. Clip Studio and Adobe products , on the other hand, are offered on virtually all mobile devices and software!
I hope that helps! Good luck!! <3

Almost Christmas… :D
The doorbell rings. And again. And a third time. Only then does Mereoleona get up from her couch and go to the door to open it.
"Yo."
"What do you want from me?" With narrowed eyes and a look full of annoyance, Mereoleona looks at Yami, who has raised his hand in greeting.
"I just wanted to see what you scary woman did to (Y/N). I haven't been able to reach her for days..."
"The better question is, who told you where I live?"
"Your brother's student file," Yami answers. "You are one of his emergency contacts. But now answer my question. Where is (Y/N)? I thought she was with you?"
"Yes - she was." With an inconspicuous gesture, she invites Yami in, who follows and closes the door behind himself. Meanwhile, Mereo has gone into the kitchen to get a glass of water and offers one to Yami too, who declines.
"We had a fight and she left," she explains. "It was about how little I trust her and that I really thought she was going on a date with you..."
"You really believed that stupid joke I told your brother?" Yami laughs, but Mereo doesn't. She looks at her visitor with an angry expression in her eyes. She almost grabs him by his neck. But she holds back as he raises his arms in defence. "Oh?You really believed him? Okay... I am truly sorry..." He is quiet for a moment and he really seems to feel guilty.
"I think (Y/N) has gone to her little squirrle-friend, if you are looking for her..." Mereoleona says distractedly.
Yami looks at her cluelessly. "Squirrel friend?"
"The one who always eats. I've never seen her without food - like a squirrle."
"Oh, you mean Charmy."
She nods and takes a sip from the water. "But I'm not really sure. Besides;" Mereoleona opens one of her kitchen drawers - a junk drawer to be precise - and hands Yami a mobile phone. "She forgot her phone here when she left. Not sure if she's coming back or not."
"That explains why she's not answering..." he mumbles as he takes the phone.
"Can you do me a favour?" Mereo leans against the kitchen counter and runs an absent-minded hand through her red mane. "Please bring her back her phone if you intend to meet (Y/N)."
"Why don't you do it yourself?" He scans her. She looks even more pale than she did a few days ago. "Has the lioness lost her teeth?”, He is trying to tease her, but it doesn't work...
"I just don't know if she wants to see me or not. I'm too scared that she won’t give us another chance. That's all..." She tries to justify herself. But Yami has seen through her. The argument with (Y/N) has somehow broken her...
"Alright - then I will pay her a visit." Yami says and scratches his head. "Shall I send her greetings from you?"
Mereoleona looks at him for a few moments. Then she takes a deep breath, it looks as if she is thinking hard.
"Not really, but I need to know something..." She gets back up and opens one of the cupboards to show Yami the meanwhile repaired cup.
"This is the cup (Y/N) was supposed to give you," he recognises it. "I know it's ugly and I told her that it's not your taste, but it's still not nice to break it."
"Don't insult this thing! My brother tried his best to save it." Mereoleona gets louder and almost a little angry. "Better tell me where she bought it. I have to buy a replacement, I can give to her. The Cup has somehow grown to her. But this thing," she lifts the mug a little to make sure she means the broken mug, "this mug should always remind me of how rash I always am and how deeply I hurt her feelings..."
"Pretty poetic for someone like you. But if you want to know, she bought the mug in that little tea shop in the mall. Right next to the entrance in the south-west. But..." He hesitates and looks at Mereoleona. "Will you give it to her? Or are you going to make me do messenger runs again?" Yami laughs, perhaps trying to provoke her again.
But as Mereo refuses to react and just stares grumpily into the distance. So the uninvited visitor simply slaps her back. "Better you decide soon. Tomorrow is Christmas again, you know..." With these words he leaves.
Again, Mereoleona stays home alone, but with a little gleam of ambition in her eyes. It seems there is still a little spark in her. "I'd better go and get her that mug..."
It's still snowing outside the CC. The afternoon is early and you are sitting in the almost empty cafĂŠ, sipping a cup of coffee. Soon the afternoon crowds will be rushing in from their last-minute Christmas shopping, so take advantage of the current lull to brood over your problems on your laptop.
After Marx left the company last week, your boss only had you to shout at. And since you already had a keyboard on your conscience and private documents on the company PC, another warning was probably not far off.
Somehow justified, of course, but with this boss it would only be a matter of time before the next little misstep ended in dismissal.
"So... should I just get a new job or look for a new place to live? And should I get the new job in Clover City or far, far away?" You ponder as someone sits next to you.
"Is this seat still free?"
At first you will to point out that the whole cafĂŠ is free. But then you look up from your laptop and see Yami.
"Yo," he greets you as he sits down and hands you your phone. It is turned off, but when you try to turn it on again, it seems to have enough power.
"Where did you get it?"
"I went to see your girlfriend. But I am not allowed to send you greetings, because she still feels bad about the argument and the misunderstanding".
"You've made a real mess of things," you grumble. "As soon as we got together - we wanted to take things slowly - poof. That was the end of the relationship."
"Did you really split up?" Your friend takes a sip from his coffee.
"I don't know. But I haven't heard from her in the last few days. But I must not complain. I haven't made any efforts to see her either. Even worse; I have just bought my train ticket for tomorrow afternoon – I’m going to celebrate Christmas with my parents. And before you say something, I know myself that I am probably running away from something..."
"As good as any adult would do. So you're not going to tell the Not-So-Scary Woman that you're leaving Clover City?"
"I don't know. I miss her, yes. But I'm too scared that she won’t give us another chance…"
"You know what..." Yami finishes his coffee with one last sip. "Believe it or not - I have heard that line before today." With these words, he gets up, grabs one of the newspapers lying on an old but still fashionable sideboard, and disappears in the direction of the toilets...
"That guy ....", you mutter, suddenly doubting your decision.

Face It or Not: Out of the Pan into the Fire
Tumblr media
June 25th, 2024
Happy 25th day of Pride Month! Wow! The month of June is almost already behind us. Today, I was thinking about the end of things and what happens when I don’t deal with it.
Soon after my divorce, a man whom I had had contact with found out that I was divorced. I call him Allan. He never really liked John and we had stopped talking because John pissed him off. It turned out that John had asked Allan if he could move in with him - while still married to me. I found this out when Allan contacted me and told me how sorry I was to have gone through that nightmare with John.
The situation led me to taking a vacation to Las Vegas to hang out with Allan. We really clicked and I went home feeling like the divorce had never happened. Allan then booked a flight to visit me and we started a relationship. I felt like I was on cloud nine and that all the darkness of the John relationship was gone.
Then, in September 2017, I was on a machine at the local gym and it collapses on my leg and tore my right Achilles Tendon in half. I ended up driving (on a damaged leg) to the local clinic where I was told that it was torn and that I would need a cast. So, an ambulance was called and I was driven to downtown Halifax where I had a cast put on - very late at night. During that time, I had texted Allan and then my phone died. I ended up getting a message from him via the ward’s nurse. I felt so grateful that Allan would do that. He immediately flew to Halifax and looked after me for almost a month. He was there during the wait time and then the operation itself.
I was feeling very depressed about not being able to be mobile and Allan’s presence cheered me. He accompanied me to physiotherapy (which I was told took an entire year). I was to be in a boot for at least two months and have physiotherapy twice a week for a while and then one per week afterwards. For that month, Allan drove me everywhere, helped out with the house and we made things work.
In the past few blog entries, I talked about John’s red flags. With Allan, I felt there were none and this made me very happy - until one day something happened. Allan got upset because he felt that I didn’t appreciate his help. I told him that that wasn’t true and that I’d been in pain and hadn’t told him enough that I really appreciated him. I did, but he was still angry, so I asked if he needed a break and offered to get him a hotel room until his flight. He then literally accused me of trying to get rid of him. I assured him that wasn’t the case. He stayed for the rest of the month and then flew home.
The boot came off and I was able to go to work after two months off. It was a bit of an adjustment as I had to use a knee scooter to get around for a while. By Christmas, I was wearing the boot less. I flew to Las Vegas for Christmas and we had an amazing time. We continued back and forth for over two years. We took a trip to Hawaii together during a trip to Las Vegas, which was amazing as it was my first time. We later planned a trip to Thailand via Hawaii. It turned out to be a dream vacation for me despite a bit of a situation with my house. I had it rented out as an Airbnb and the cleaner quit while I was in Las Vegas before we left. I was really upset and wondered if I should fly back to solve the problem. Allan flew off the handle telling me that I wasn’t thinking about him at all. I apologized and things went on. Again, I ignored what was going on.
Later that year during a visit to Nova Scotia, we celebrated Hallowe’en together. While I was in the bathroom, Allan went through my phone and found a picture that I had sent to a friend in Australia. He got angry with me and said that I had betrayed his trust. I realized that I had made a mistake and I allowed him to go through my phone, computer and all my hard drives. He ended up deleting every picture of John that existed. I just let him do it. He also asked me to ditch any of my friends that might want to sleep with me. I followed his advice.
The next trip to Las Vegas was that Christmas in 2018. I took a lot of my family Christmas ornaments with me because he wanted to have a family tradition Christmas. It was a fun time including a birthday cake for me. He also had a surprise for me and announced a two day trip and that I was to guess where we were going.  The first idea came to me was Fort Lauderdale. Allan turned to me and told me that I was disgusting - the only reason I wanted to go there was to have sex with a friend there. I told him that wasn’t true, but he insisted that I ditch that friendship or else. I told him no problem and we flew to San Francisco for two nights. The first night we were there, in the hotel room Allan picked up his sunglasses, turned to me and yelled that I was toxic to him. He squeezed his hands so hard that he broke his sunglasses and cut his palms. I can remember his face as he gritted his teeth and tossed the glasses into the garbage. I was shocked, so I called the last two friends that I still had in my list and said goodbye. That seemed to be fine with Allan and we went on with the trip.
When we returned, it was close to New Years and we had tickets to see Celine Dion. It was an amazing concert. We took pictures of ourselves by the promotional billboard in the theatre. I flew back that New Years day. On Facebook, there was a now and then post. I placed a picture of me in 2008 and the one of me in front of the Celine Dion billboard. Allan didn’t answer his phone that evening. The next day I called him and he screamed at me that I had hurt him horribly. After I hang up, I discovered that he had changed his Facebook profile to a black picture with candles. I texted him to ask if we could talk and he texted back that he wanted nothing to do with me because I had been unfaithful for showing that picture to my friend and that I hadn’t gotten rid of all my friends.
There I was, just into 2019 and again I was single. I was mystified as to why Allan did this and actually thought of going to Las Vegas, but one of Allan’s friends told me know when I suggest it. That was the last time I heard from Allan until two months three months later when I received a package in the mail. The package had a note about how much I had hurt him and that if I wanted any of my stuff that I had left in his condo, I would have to pay back all the money for gifts, trips, etc or I wouldn’t get my stuff back. My eyes were opened and I realized what was happening. I took the package and burned it. I said goodbye to my things in his condo - including my family Christmas ornaments - which were important to me as memorabilia. I never heard from Allan again.
I never had time to process the break up because something else happened suddenly in my life - I was diagnosed with colon cancer. When we see the light and come to understand what we’ve been doing that is not genuine, it’s a breakthrough. In that time, I wasn’t being true to myself.  It took the cancer and chemo along with some internal work to help me see that. If you are interested, you can check out my cancer blog at https://www.tumblr.com/otter1962.
What I learned about myself helped me see that I hadn’t dealt with the divorce from John, jumped into a relationship too soon, discovered that Allan was a worse narcissist than John and that cancer was my wake up call.
For Pride, I am celebrating the trials we sometimes have to go through before we see the light. I came to understand that I had to take care of myself, love myself and do the work before I could even think about another relationship. I am also celebrating the idea that there is a big difference between being alone and lonely, which I’ve written about in a blog entry.
Carpe diem, everyone! Live your life genuinely as yourself and be happy with that. Don’t let others dictate how your life should be lived!

Media Favorites of 2023
Tumblr media
Who can't believe that 2023 is nearly over? *raises hand* As the year winds down, this seems like the time to reflect on the things that helped us or brought us joy. The following is a list (not exhaustive) of my favorite apps, books, music, TV, and video games from the last year, including many that I would recommend to others. You can find my list from 2021 here. (I missed compiling this list in 2022, in no small part because I was sampling eastern Germany’s best Christmas Markets all through December.)
Apps
Airalo. My new go-to for international data, but you’ll need an unlocked phone. I was able to save a ton of money by setting up a second e-SIM to access Japanese mobile data networks. (It cost $10 for 10GB of data across 30 days, which was plenty for the week I spent there, and much cheaper compared to my phone plan’s offerings.) I wish I’d heard of this before my trips to England and Europe this year, but I was able to try it out in Japan successfully. I’ll definitely be making use of this app when traveling in the future. The only downside is that I can’t have both e-sims active, so I had to restart my phone in order to check my text messages. Luckily, most communication is done over apps these days instead of SMS, so I wasn’t missing much.
Reverso. This app pulled more than its weight for me while I was traveling abroad this summer. The thing I liked most about it is how it pulls up example sentences so you can help see the context and usage of a given word. It also saves your searches for you, so if you were a more disciplined language student than me, you could write down any new vocabulary in a notebook to study later. Also, it’s free and works fairly well offline, and it’s able to handle multiple languages in the same app.
Vivino. When in France, drink as the French do, I suppose. But when you’re at the supermarket trying to decide between the many, many wines available for less than 10€, this app helps to narrow down the field. Scanning the label gives you the user score for that vintage, plus a personalized rating for how it compares to previous wines you’ve enjoyed. By rating the wines I tried, I was able to get a better sense of my preferred styles and remember which labels to avoid in the future. It was also excellent to have on hand when we went to Bordeaux and sampled various Grand Crus. The app helped me to get a sense for how much those bottles would fetch back home, and whether it was worth it to buy it in France to bring home or to seek it out at my local liquor store.
Books
Dracula by Bram Stoker. The vampire book that started it all (well, not quite), this one really does live up to its reputation as a classic. A few years ago, I read Stoker’s The Jewel of Seven Stars and enjoyed it tremendously (it even served as the inspiration for a Dark Sun one-shot scenario I wrote based around Queen Tara), so I’m not sure what took me so long to get to Dracula. The epistolary style is really well done and should serve as a reference point for any game masters who long to add handouts to their campaigns. It’s inspired me to try running Night’s Black Agents in the new year.
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. Apparently this book is the first in an urban fantasy series I’ve been sleeping on for some time. The easy comparison is Storm Front, the first book in the Dresden Files, but I have to say that this one comes out on top re: modern wizard investigator stories, mostly because of the protagonist’s sense of humor and the audiobook narrator’s brilliant delivery. I think fans of British TV will find themselves very much at home with this book. I had the happy accident of being in London while reading this, and I had been exploring Covent Garden and the alleys surrounding the Royal Opera House immediately before reading the finale, which helped tremendously when picturing the final scenes.
Slaying the Dragon by Ben Riggs. With the news of the recent Hasbro layoffs affecting the D&D team at Wizards of the Coast, this book feels like required reading to understand some of the boom and bust cycles of D&D (although, sadly, D&D seems to be doing better than ever, and the layoffs appear to be mandated to help cover losses elsewhere in the company). It’s hard to fact-check/cross-reference this book because so much of it is original research and interviews done by the author, but that’s precisely why it’s a must-read for fans of the franchise.
Music
All Quiet on the Western Front (Soundtrack from the Netflix Film). One word: haunting. The main “melody” is extremely simplistic, but it fits the subject matter so well. I also recommend the movie if you play any 20th century-based wargames or read any history. I found it interesting that this was only the first time a German production company adapted it from the book.
Seelie by CLANN. I’m not sure how to categorize this album, except it’s incredibly ambient and dark and pagan (especially Celtic). The tracks all kind of blend together in a good way, making it excellent for writing or focus work.
Gris (Original Game Soundtrack). Another great soundtrack I put on repeat this year, mostly while reading. It’s melancholic, sweeping, hopeful. I’ve never played the video game, but if it’s half as good as the score, it’ll be quite good.
Movies/TV
Barbie. I went for a “Barbenheimer” double-feature this summer, and I did not expect Barbie to hit way harder than Oppenheimer did. Ryan Gosling might have stolen the show, but the story and the feels really made this movie stay with us. Coming from a franchise development/IP approval perspective (and this is where I have to do the disclaimer that my opinions are my own, I’m not speaking on behalf of my employer Asmodee), I’m shocked that Mattel let this get made, but I’m so glad they did.
Blue Eye Samurai. (Netflix) I had little idea this was coming until a few weeks before the release, but this show blew me away and shattered any expectations I had for it. The character development, the animation, the voice acting, the themes… it’s hard to find faults with the show (although, perhaps Mizu’s ending was unexpected). If you enjoy samurai cinema or anime, if you’re at all interested in the history of Japan, or if you’re simply an appreciator of animation, this is a must-watch.
Vienna Blood. (PBS) I like to joke that I have a grandmother’s taste in TV, because BBC/ITV period dramas make up so much of my streaming diet, but this is a mystery/detective show first and foremost. Instead of Sherlock and Watson, you’ve got Detective Rheinhardt and Max Liebermann. Max is a Jew in 1900s Vienna and a student of Freud’s work, with the psychoanalysis lending the show an interesting frame, but I’ve also really appreciated how important his family is to the show. I’ve found it really fascinating how they explore the many peoples of the Austro-Hungarian empire before its collapse, and it’s made me want to run a Cthulhu by Gaslight campaign in Vienna (elements of which I might pull forward into the NBA game).
Video Games
Baldur’s Gate 3. (PC) It shouldn’t come as a surprise that someone whose hobbies center on Dungeons & Dragons and other roleplaying games should thoroughly enjoy this game, but I’m certain that even folks who have never rolled a d20 will be delighted by this CRPG from Larian Studios. The writing and voice performances are phenomenal, and the sheer amount of content (and thus, replayability) is staggering. I’ve logged over 60 hours playing and can easily see myself playing for 60 more. I’ve only just started Act II, so no spoilers, please!
Horizon: Forbidden West. (PS5) I was a bit of a latecomer to this game after it released in 2023, but once I started, I could barely put it down. Amazing characters? Check. Phenomenal gameplay? Check. Open-world exploration that actually evokes the feeling of discovery? Check. My only quibble is that the story isn’t quite as brilliant as the first game, but given that the first game was a masterpiece and easily in my top 5 games of all time, that’s a high bar to clear. I admit I bought a PlayStation 5 just so I could play the Burning Shores expansion when it came out in April, and while personally I had been shipping Aloy with Kotallo, I appreciate the romantic subplot being included.
What were some of your favorites from 2023? Did your list have any of the same titles as mine?

when: april 1st, roughly 11:47PM. where: towards the back of rhee's bar & grill. what: solo for this plot drop. warnings: ocd, broken bones, blood, mentions of death. mentioned: sry i'm not tagging none yall. clem adores too many of u dweebs 😔
the second game goes into overtime and clem hides a yawn. her social battery is running on fumes by this point in the evening, but the time she’s spent with friends warms her face as she weaves through the crowd towards the back of the bar to relieve herself, much to her own dismay. she doesn't like public restrooms; not knowing how well they were cleaned or who may have used them was enough to make her skin crawl, but a night filled with bottomless water and that singular virgin mojito won’t allow her to last until she makes it home.
she’s meticulous in the way she washes her hands, following a routine she’s had since childhood: rinse. put soap inside right palm. dampen soap. lather on entire surface of hands, then wrists, going up to mid-forearm. rinse. flick fingers into the sink thirteen times. repeat entire process three times before drying hands. finish routine by wiping sink and counter with a fresh paper towel until area is dry. by following the routine, it ensures she doesn't get in trouble and nothing bad will happen to someone she cares about. it doesn't make sense, of course, but obsessive thoughts and compulsions rarely do.
she hears the crowd pick up in volume, indicating the games have finally come to an end for the evening just as she's carefully tossing the paper towel into the garbage and she decides it best to give kage a heads up about her plans. retrieving the mobile from her back pocket, the raven happens to notice the time and her lips curl into a smile as she makes a mental note to give deshaun the right to say i told you so, before firing off a text message:
(  clem favorite  ):  everything’s finally over! i’m going to stay behind for a bit to help clean up and i promised kennedy i’d wait for her so she can give me something, but i’ll let you know when i’m on my way home 🖤
she’s in the process of putting her phone away when she exits back into the hallway, but the stairs leading to the basement catch her eye, stopping her in her tracks just past the edge of the wall. staring down the darkened descent serves as inspiration, kicking her imagination into overdrive and lights her up like a christmas tree.  ❝  oh, why haven't i used this before! just imagine all the horrors i can hide in a dark, damp, creepy basement!  ❞  the exclamation is spoken softly, lost in the murmur of the patrons still reeling from their own alcohol-infused excitement, before she senses someone approaching. believing it to be someone who needed to use the restroom like herself, she moves to grant them more room within the hallway, offering them a politely spoken,  ❝  oh, excuse me. sorry,  ❞  for taking up space. clem is so focused on committing her ideas to memory so she doesn't forget them before they can be written down that she can't bring herself to shift her attention despite her feet beginning to carry her back to the floor.
she’s only able to take a couple steps of her own when she realises she can hear the other's footsteps reverberating throughout the hallway---an oddity, given the lively atmosphere of the place---and, wait, why do they sound quicker than usual? her movements cease as clem's head whips forward so she can find out why.. except she's given no time to react before she's shoulder checked by the stranger.
they’re much stronger; solid and broad, especially in comparison to herself, and there's enough force that it knocks her off balance, but she hadn’t realised just how close she’d gotten to the edge of the initial step in her attempt to give them more room to pass until her foot slips off the edge, ankle rolling, and suddenly she’s free falling.
instinct wastes no time kicking in and she tries to catch herself, but the impact of her weight landing on the outstretched arm when it comes in contact with one of the steps immediately renders it useless and it caves. her world is spinning now, causing her to lose all sense of direction, but even knowing the best way to protect herself, learned through the research she’s stumbled across throughout her career as a writer, it does nothing to help her. using one's arms to protect their head and curling into a ball to roll down is nowhere near as easy as people make it seem and just as clem starts to think she's found a never ending staircase, she finally lands with a resounding thud, paired with a groan as her head ricochets off the basement floor.
the irony of the situation and the way it played out similarly to that of one she’d considered for her protagonist would be enough to elicit a chuckle had she not been in so much pain. her entire body aches: arms, legs, ribs, back, neck, head, and she could’ve sworn she heard things crack on her descent, though she can’t pinpoint exactly where and clem chokes back a sob. she doesn’t risk moving, both in fear of potentially hurting herself further and.. what if they're still around, looking down at me, watching?
her vision swims as dizziness overtakes her. her consciousness is beginning to slip, and it worries her, so she does the only thing she can think of to keep herself awake until help  (  hopefully  )  arrives: she begins to think of those important to her.
aranya, kage, deshaun, monty, jacob, lany, dilara, sadiye, vera, emira, selin, julia, hyejin, lunara, paisley, yasmin, kahlan, kyle, dae-eun, mariana, crawford, her agent, her listeners, malachi---maybe more, but it's getting harder for her to remember names. it surprises her, though, the amount she does remember. for someone who has always felt so alone in the world, she doesn’t have enough fingers to count all of those she cares about most, regardless of where their relationship may stand now, but she can't help wondering why she didn't try to make more happy memories with them? why wasn’t she nicer or more involved? why wasn't she more willing to forgive and seek her own forgiveness? most importantly, when's the last time she told them i love you? even after the loss of vivian and amoni, and almost losing jacob, why did she continue to take it all for granted?
it's getting harder to keep her eyes open and she can feel her stomach churning, though it's hard to tell if that's due to the level of pain she's in or the possible concussion. blood trickles from the laceration on her forehead into her eye and it burns, but her body is battered and bruised, making it impossible for her to wipe it away and she wonders if this is how she's going to die; alone, scared, and hurt by a combination of her own stupidity and the cruelty of another------and when her world goes black, she swears she hears her mother's voice:
it's not your time yet, so go continue making me proud, clem. you have people waiting for you.

Don’t Settle for Less: How to Find the Perfect Mobile Tyre Repair Service in London
Just like everything else, your car requires maintenance too. No matter how expensive your car is, without tyres, it won't move. They absorb most of the wear and tear while your car travels, so safety and performance become a necessity.
But unexpected damage, either puncture or burst, can happen at any time, leaving you speechless and concerned. In these undesired situations, a repair service provides convenience by helping you to get back on the road.
Since there are plenty of service providers that claim to be highly experienced or the best, picking any service without knowing much can be a risky move.
Here’s a complete guide to help you find the perfect mobile tyre repair service so that you will be always prepared in advance while travelling in your vehicle.
Key Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mobile Tyre Repair Service
1. 24/7 Availability
Problems are unpredictable; therefore, emergencies may be tapping you during non-working hours. Your tyre can get punctured late at night or early in the morning. I would suggest you select a service provider that offers 24/7 service. If a company provides service 365 days a year, what would be better than that? You getting assistance at any time, reducing your stress.
2. Reasonable Rates
Depending on the company, the cost can vary. Some may charge additional costs for small or unnecessary things, making your expenditure more heavy. Thus, it's best to do some research or at least ask for a quote on a phone call with no hidden charges.
3. Comprehensive Services
It’s best to pick a service provider that offers multiple services like battery fitting, brake servicing, and locking wheel removal because these things augment your vehicle’s overall performance and safety. Thus you do not need to call different providers for different work; get all essential services from a single place.
4. Reviews
We are living in a digitised world. We have access to smartphones and the internet; thus, customer reviews and testimonials are an invaluable resource when seeking a trustworthy mobile tyre repair provider in London. Check the company's website and reviews; through it, you will get valuable insights into the company's work quality.
5. Experience and Expertise
A skilled technician has the required knowledge and sight to evaluate even small issues that are creating big problems, whereas a rookie won't be able to do it. Look for trained professionals who have advanced tools to execute the task effectively.
Kwik Tyres:  A Popular Tyre Repair Service Provider in the London

Tracking Santa: NORAD’s Beloved Christmas Tradition in 2024
Tumblr media
As Christmas approaches, excitement fills the air, especially for children eagerly awaiting Santa Claus's visit. One of the most magical ways to enhance this anticipation is through the Santa Tracker, a beloved tradition that has captured the hearts of families for decades. This year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) continues to bring joy to children around the world with its highly anticipated Santa Tracker.
The Origins of the Santa Tracker
The NORAD Santa Tracker has its roots in a 1955 mix-up when a Colorado Springs-based department store mistakenly published a phone number for children to call Santa. Instead, they reached the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), which was the precursor to NORAD. The commander on duty, Colonel Harry Shoup, decided to play along, providing updates on Santa's location. This whimsical initiative has since evolved, becoming an annual tradition that families look forward to every Christmas Eve.
How the Santa Tracker Works
Using a combination of satellite technology, radar, and dedicated volunteers, NORAD tracks Santa's journey around the globe. According to reports from CBS News and CNN, as Santa begins his travels, children can visit the NORAD website or use the NORAD Tracks Santa app to follow his journey in real-time. The tracker shows Santa’s current location, along with fun facts about the countries he visits and the presents he delivers.
In 2024, the Santa Tracker is expected to be even more interactive, featuring live updates, festive games, and educational content about different cultures and holiday traditions. Families can enjoy a virtual experience where they learn about Santa's travels while celebrating the spirit of Christmas.
Engaging Families Worldwide
The appeal of the Santa Tracker goes beyond just tracking Santa's sleigh; it fosters a sense of wonder and excitement for children and families alike. According to Fox News, the NORAD Santa Tracker receives millions of visitors annually, with children eagerly checking back throughout the day to see where Santa is headed next. The event has become a global phenomenon, engaging families from various cultures and backgrounds.
In addition to the digital tracker, NORAD operates a call center where volunteers take calls from children around the world, providing updates on Santa's location. This personal touch adds to the magic, making children feel connected to the Christmas spirit and the joy of giving.
Santa Tracker in the Digital Age
With advancements in technology, the Santa Tracker has adapted to the digital age. The NORAD website and mobile app offer interactive features, including games, videos, and educational content. As CNN reported, in 2024, users can also engage with NORAD's social media channels for real-time updates and festive content. The integration of technology allows families to create memories and enjoy the excitement of Santa's journey together.
A Message of Joy and Giving
Beyond the fun and excitement, the NORAD Santa Tracker embodies the spirit of Christmas—joy, hope, and togetherness. It serves as a reminder of the importance of generosity and kindness during the holiday season. As families track Santa's route, they also reflect on the values of giving and sharing, making Christmas a time of connection and celebration.
Conclusion
As we approach Christmas 2024, the NORAD Santa Tracker continues to be a cherished tradition that brings joy and excitement to families around the world. With its innovative use of technology and dedication to spreading holiday cheer, NORAD has successfully kept the magic of Santa alive for generations. So, gather your loved ones, check the NORAD website or app, and get ready to track Santa as he spreads joy and gifts across the globe this Christmas Eve!

Chapter 3 - The Street
Tumblr media
This is a Christmas story told in 25 parts – with one chapter released each day of December ‘til Christmas. Enjoy!
Keya was one of the many people in the city running last-minute errands on Christmas Eve. The young girl had just picked up presents for family and friends from a fancy boutique and was heading to the car where her father, and his speechwriter, were waiting. This should have been a simple task. Unfortunately, it was disrupted by a panicked boy, looking over his shoulder at whoever was chasing him, racing towards her at full speed.
PLOOMPH!
George crashed into Keya. Both kids tumbled to the ground, with his backpack and her gifts left strewn across the filthy street.
“My presents!” Keya cried as she surveyed the damage.
George had landed on something lumpy and when he pulled out the item from under his butt, he was sorry to discover …
“My phone!” the girl cried with even more anguish.
Keya yanked her mobile from his hands and mournfully inspected its cracked screen and damaged pink case that she had lovingly decorated with stickers of Christmas emojis.
George got to his feet as Keya berated him. He stammered an apology but it was lost amid her furious yelling. This yelling went on for quite some time before Keya noticed something odd. The boy was not looking her in the eyes as she reprimanded him. He was looking at her mouth. George, she realised, was trying to read her lips. Keya went quiet. With the girl’s mouth no longer moving, George’s eyes flashed up to meet hers. He saw a confused expression on her face that he had seen on strangers a hundred times before - George was deaf, the girl had just figured this out and she was taking a beat to process it.
That beat offered only a short reprieve. When George reached out to help collect her presents from the pavement, a hand gripped his arm and roughly swung him around. It belonged to a man who immediately began shaking him and screaming irately. George deduced that this was the girl’s father.
The only word pouring from his mouth that the boy could decipher was “thief”. George’s arm was in pain; the man was squeezing it too tightly with no signs of letting go. George was not going to take this. He could not get a word in but could kick the man’s shins. He swung his foot back and took aim but this, it turned out, would not be necessary.
“Get your hands off of him!” Sister Roula shouted as she raced over to George’s side.
“Who are you?” the man barked.
“I’m his guardian”, the nun replied. “Hands!”
The man released George, but was not about to back down.
“This maniac of yours tackled my daughter and tried to steal her things!”
“George wouldn’t do that. He was …”
“You should be more responsible than letting this brat run loose!” the man exclaimed, cutting her off mid-sentence.
“Listen, you have no …”
Sister Roula paused. This time, she had cut herself off. Her eyes narrowed as she examined the man’s face.
“Mayor Paul?” the nun said.
“Yes”, he responded stiffly. The man had temporarily forgotten that he was a public figure. He was glad that his press secretary was not there to see him lose his temper at a voter, let alone a nun. The optics of this situation were terrible.
His temper, however, was soon to be eclipsed by that of Sister Roula. The nun puffed up like a bear about to strike. George and Keya could see that something about the mayor clearly enraged her. They took a step back.
“I’m Sister Roula from the Kangula Youth Shelter”, she announced, seething.
A look of doom came over the mayor’s face.
“I have been calling you, emailing you, begging you for months to give us decent funding to repair our building.”
“We …”
“The roof leaks, the dishwasher’s dead, the plumbing doesn’t work. It’s not fit for a rat to live in, though they’re making a go of it in our walls!”
“The budget is tight”, Mayor Paul responded curtly. “Your request made no financial sense.”
“Baloney!”
As everyone was distracted by the fiery argument, Lolly emerged from her hiding spot under a nearby bus stop bench. She had been waiting there for some time after chasing Sister Roula for multiple blocks. The elf crept over to George’s backpack, which lay by his feet, and placed the globe inside. She then slipped in herself, zipping the bag closed behind her.
Lolly was wedged between a smelly jumper, a photo of George hugging a mate, and a spotty banana looking past its prime. While they hid in the backpack in silence, Santa busied himself by wiping the words “FOLLOW THAT NUN” and “SNEAK US IN BAG” from the glass on the inside of his globe.
He was surprised to find the word “SANTA” staring back at him. The word was written in giant letters, bigger than Santa himself, scribbled on the side of an envelope pressed up against the globe. Santa was perplexed. He wondered, is this why George was out so late? To send me a letter? Santa pondered the contents of the envelope on the other side of the glass as he popped the tiny nub of candy cane left of his make-shift pen into his mouth and crunched away.
“This is not the place for this discussion”, Mayor Paul said evasively, turning away from the nun. “My office will be in contact with you about the shelter after Christmas.”
“No!” Sister Roula snapped. “Now. Explain to me why now.”
The mayor took a deep breath.  He turned back to face Sister Roula.
“Very well”, he stated. “The shelter’s permit will be cancelled in the new year.”
“W… What?”
“The funding has been cut off because there’s no point repairing a building that will soon be demolished. Developers are offering good money to transform the space. Valuable real estate like yours in the middle of the city is better off in private hands. As I said, our office was going to inform you after Christmas.” He then turned to his daughter. “Keya, pick up your things. We’re going.”
Sister Roula stood there, numb. As she watched the mayor and his daughter disappear into the crowd, she thought about the years that she had spent keeping the shelter afloat. She wondered what would happen to the kids, escaping troubled homes and life on the streets, who relied on this refuge.
George had a hard time following what had been said, but could see the shattered look on Sister Roula’s face. He wanted to say something of comfort but nothing seemed adequate.
“I’m sorry I broke the pipe”, he offered feebly.
Sister Roula cast her eyes down at him. George braced for her response. The nun knew that she should be furious - he had run out at night, damaged property and made an enemy of the man controlling their future. She had no fight left in her, though. She also did not have the energy to try and bridge the gap between her inability to sign and his so-so ability to lipread. Talking to George was tricky.
“We can discuss it later”, the nun replied. “Just tell me - why did you run away?”
George averted his gaze, pretending not to have seen her ask the question. He was not one to say much even at the best of times. Sister Roula sighed, grabbed George’s backpack and slung it over her shoulder as they made their way back to the shelter.
Inside the bag, Santa eyed the undelivered envelope. He suspected that the answer to Sister Roula’s question lay within. Whatever George was asking for this Christmas must have been worth all of this trouble.

Dream from 16/11/24
I was working on Victoria road near Dr. Berera’s surgery. There was no pharmacy, it's like I was a mobile pharmacist. I was getting phone orders, 3 times I had the receptionist call me and say to just give advance supply to certain customers because the Dr was away. One lady it was for a box of Comfarol forte, and she was about to go somewhere so I offered to tuck it in somewhere near her things as she had some kind of open air shop thing.
Aggy and I were walking in the street on our way to to the Christmas dinner and FN appeared in the street with his car and he drove us there. It was group of us like probably 10 people and I was like how can we all fit and someone said it would be fine because we’re just going to the top of the street since the restaurant was so close. Like we could all squeeze in, we wouldn't need seatbelts. I think FN wasn’t expecting this at all, like that many people perhaps. I hopped into the middle seating next to Aggy where there was no backrest, in my mind I thought how lucky it was for her to be seated where she was. I tried to make convo with FN. His wife was there and probably the 2 daughters.
Then we were eating. I got seated near FN, and again, I tried to make convo. I think he didn’t like how charismatic I was or what I was saying even though I wasn't necessarily saying anything controversial. I kept saying stuff and everyone was staring as I talked. I said where I was working was similar to Station St with the little pharmacy catering to older people but I said it had to go, it had to evolve, there’s no choice. We can’t keep going like this. He seemed to agree even though it was so awkward. Then the food came out but I wasn’t getting served any. FN was eating delicious pizza he was just eating the toppings and hadn’t touched the bread yet. I noticed Sofia didn't have any food either. There was food placed on tables nearby so we would have to go serve ourselves. We got up and walked around to survey and retrieve the food but I couldn’t find anything I liked. There was no vegetarian protein and everything was just weird like just unfinished or something or like it didn’t look good. I got some bread and then the red sauce from the bread next to it but it broke off. Someone saw this and laughed. I saw pots of herbs like parsley that we could pluck off an add to out meal. I felt it was too much effort. There wasn’t anything for me to eat and I kinda just gave up
At some point I arrived at a shopping centre where Evangeline was hanging out with her friends and she said I looked so hot. I was very flattered by the compliment. I think then she left them and followed us. I had on my white coat still.
