In a classic example of better late than never, a Federal Court in Canada ruled on Tuesday that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's invocation of The Emergencies Act in 2022, used to crush the largest and most peaceful protest in Canadian history, was "unreasonable," "unjustified," and "violated the fundamental freedoms" set out in Canada's constitution.
The case was brought to the court by a number of individual applicants as well as several Canadian civiil liberties groups, including the Canadian Constitution Foundation and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. And in the decision, Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley expressed what every trucker and other participant in the trucker's Freedom Convoy knew to be true: There was no justification for granting the government powers that amounted to near Marshall Law over a protest that was 100 percent peaceful, with no violence or property damage committed—that is, until the Emergencies Act was passed, and the police trampled grandmothers under horses, fired tear gas canisters at journalists within point blank range, beat protesters down and smashed the windows of the truckers rigs, and generally deployed the type of violence that the government had knowingly falsely accused the truckers of engaging in.
The government also froze the bank accounts of truckers, seized donated funds, and shut down of the economic lives of hundreds of Canadian citizens, a draconian measure which shocked the world.
Every protester and trucker who took part in the Convoy knew that the government and it's bought and paid for media were lying to the public about the Freedom Convoy, and though it feels good to once again be proven correct, that doesn't change what happened. It also doesn't change the division in Canadian society which took place under COVID, and it remains to be seen if this ruling will put an end to the ongoing punishments of various Freedom Convoy protesters which continue to this day.
For example, the trial of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, who emerged as public faces and leaders of the Ottawa portion of the Freedom Convoy, has now become the longest mischief trial in Canadian history. Finally getting underway in September of last year, the trial proceeded in fits and starts into December, and is set to resume in February.
Or take Guy Meisner, a trucker from Nova Scotia, was one of the first to be arrested and charged when the crackdown began after the Emergencies Act was invoked. He will be back in Ottawa near the end of February for the ninth time to face his "mischief" charges.
Then there is the case of Christine Decaire, a woman who protested in Ottawa and was charged by the police, who was acquitted last year; much like this ruling today, however, The Crown has decided to appeal her acquittal. To drag an innocent person back to court is the kind of grossly vindictive behavior on the part of the Trudeau Government that they have become well known for.
There are dozens of cases like this working their way through the system.
And then we have The Coutts Four, a group of men who were arrested in Alberta right before the Emergencies Act was invoked and have been kept in custody without bail nor trial ever since. Hopes are high that this ruling may help change their circumstances, but it has now been two years since they have seen their families, which is a grossly offensive situation, especially in a country where nearly everyone gets bail.
All of these cases point to a level of vindictive cruelty on the part of this government as constituted under Trudeau, who was only too happy to champion the fair treatment of someone who fought on the side of The Taliban in Afghanistan and was later apprehended by American forces. Champion the rights of his own peaceful citizens to a fair trial? Apparently that is beneath the Prime Minister.
Trudeau's deputy, Chrystia Freeland was behind the bank account freezing acting as Finance Minister, and she appeared almost immediately after the ruling to announce that her government would be appealing, claiming to "remind Canadians how serious the situation was." This though all the evidence and testimony presented in 2022 at the official inquest into the invocation of the Emergencies Act found that no threats existed, and everything the media said about the truckers was a fabrication.
Justin Trudeau has remarked in the past that Canada is a "post-national" state that has "no core identity," yet when that identity asserted itself to say enough is enough to the strictures of his punishing COVID Regime, he was only too happy to unleash the full power of his "post-national" state to attack these citizens whom he holds in utter contempt.
It appears that there is no ruling Trudeau will not appeal or lawfare he will not pursue to ensure punishment of the enemies of his party.
Justin Trudeau is not a leader, but merely a narcissistic tyrant. This week was only the latest evidence.

Christine Meisner The Freedom of, 2015–2016 installation of drawings and video
In 1954 the radio show “Music USA—The Jazz Hour” went on air for the first time. Broadcast by Voice of America radio station and produced by the U.S. Office of War Information, the show played a major role in the global expansion and reception of jazz. Promoted as the “voice of freedom” the U.S. government regarded it as an important means to reach out to the world and spread Western ideas. However, communist and socialist governments and apartheid regimes banned the program so the show could only be received illegally. While radio listeners worldwide felt the music was “played by someone, who is free,” African-American jazz musicians experienced racism and discrimination on a daily basis in their homeland.
The Freedom of sets out as an investigation into a lost chapter in radio history. Broadcasts can be recorded, stored and thus memorized but reception can’t. Sounds transmitted over the air seem to vanish into the ears and minds of unknown listeners. There is no ground to dig in, no place to examine, no object to be grasped—just ideologies, misconceptions, and promises traversing the intangible landscape of the ether. The work evokes a space in which all the properties of sound and its reception become visible. A battlefield where the impulse to “extend the area of freedom” and persistent efforts to disturb that sense of mission crisscross. It contemplates how freedom comes into being by questioning its means and meanings.
The installation represents the last part of a trilogy preceded by the drawing series Wade in the Water (2010) and the video Disquieting Nature (2012). In her long-term project the German artist Christine Meisner confronts the ideological American landscape with its notion of liberty.

Hello Christine! First of all, I really appreciate all the work you put into this blog and helping other performers out. My question is this: I want to take actual acting classes but in my city's current lockdown situation, that isn't possible. Until I'm able to either go back to school or schools around me start teaching acting online, are there at least some books or something I can read that might be helpful?
The big ones I usually recommend are Uta Hagen’s Respect for Acting and the Stanislavsky trilogy (An Actor Prepares.) Meisner and Strasberg have some books, but I’m not as crazy about them. I like them more historically—understanding history of acting and various techniques out there—rather than as guidebooks. Hope that helps!

Jordan Roberts - Dramatic Acting Reel from Jordan Roberts and Friends, Inc. on Vimeo.
JORDAN ROBERTS – THE ACTOR: Jordan Roberts was cast by Kerry Barden (“Spotlight,” “The Help” & “Dallas Buyers Club”) to play Karen in the comedy feature, “Waking Up Dead” (to be released in 2021). Roberts has also joined the cast of the dark comedy thriller, “Relevant,” a hybrid feature film/TV series, where she will portray Kate Simmons, a blackballed journalist fighting to get the story of a lifetime, while being held captive by a serial killer, as they battle their mutual attraction in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Producer Roger Neal is collaborating with Roberts on her upcoming one-woman-shows for 2021 & 2022: “Jane Fonda: Unstoppable!” and “Exit Laughing: Joan Rivers from Heaven” (a retrospective, blended with what would be Rivers’ current comedic take on today’s world from her perch in heaven.) Roberts has created an exciting business model for a new platform to tell more women’s stories. “Before I Make a Movie” empowers eight A-List producer-actresses with brand funding, crowd-funding and charity partners. “I love riding the tide of creative collaboration as an actor, writer and producer, with a personal ‘sweet spot’ for projects that speak truth and justice, empower women, give voice to the voiceless and celebrate the human condition.” – Jordan Roberts The 2020 Democratic National Convention requested and received in-kind video excerpts from documentaries, co-hosted by Jordan Roberts: “Before I Vote for You” and “Mass Incarceration Nation.” TELEVISION: In the TV movie/back-door pilot, “Two Close,” Jordan Roberts delights as Alexandra Plute, the University Dean of Students, who graduated at the top of her class at Harvard and is on her second divorce. With an unpredictable temperament and a heart of gold, Dean Plute bounces between control freak, angel of mercy, and hot mess, as the default referee for all drama and hijinks ensuing on campus. In Lifetime’s thriller, “Officer Down,” Roberts portrays Christine Gorman, a corrupt, criminal attorney who is pursued by a detective (Sherilyn Fenn), until one of them ends up dead. In the TV movie/back-door pilot, “Coyotes,” Roberts plays the role of Dr. Andrea Marsh, a renegade doctor giving medical aid to illegal immigrants at the Arizona border. Additional TV credits include: “Just Shoot Me,” “That 70’s Show,” “Passions” and “The Young and the Restless.” INDIE FILMS: As the abused wife of a police detective, Jordan Roberts makes the jaw-dropping transformation from victim to killer in “Spotless”, produced by Casey LaScala & John Katzman. Roberts delights as the boozy, wicked stepmother in Zakaria Schwartz’ modern day Cinderella story, “Frozen Heart.” In Jose Sanchez' horror / thriller, "The Son," Roberts portrays a grieving mother spiraling into insanity. In “Big Wings,” Roberts plays Francine, an angel who mentors a troubled teenager, helping her find acceptance, faith and forgiveness. Jordan Roberts is haunting as Brooke, a punk rocker who is drugged and gang-raped in “The After Party.” In "Bereft,” Roberts portrays Marie, a beloved wife and mother who is suddenly killed, leaving father and daughter spiraling in incestuous grief. Roberts’ first leading role was in the comedy feature, “Butch Camp,” where she plays Janet, a hairdresser in love with two men, who both dump her for each other. Jordan Roberts studied Journalism, Film and TV writing at UCLA. She trained as an actor at The Meisner Carville School of Acting, The Strasberg Institute, The Groundings, Lembeck Comedy Workshop and UBC. She has served multiple terms on Women In Film’s Board of Directors as Advocacy Chair and Newsletter Editor, and IFP (now Film Independent) as Newsletter Editor and Membership Chair. Roberts loves yoga, soccer, piano, scuba diving, kayaking, hiking, photography, major league baseball and creating fun adventures with friends. Roberts began her career in theatre, radio, stand-up comedy and voice-over; she’s currently the voice of four top brands!

All Five One Direction Members Have Now Charted Solo Top 40 Hot 100 Hits With "Back to You," Louis Tomlinson joins fellow top 40 entrants Zayn, Niall Horan, Harry Styles & Liam Payne. On the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Aug. 12), Louis Tomlinson becomes the fifth and final member of One Direction to score a solo top 40 hit, as "Back to You," featuring Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals, debuts at No. 40. Tomlinson joins (former 1D member) Zayn, plus Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Liam Payne in having earned at least one solo top 40 hit on the Hot 100. Zayn achieved the feat first in February 2016 when "Pillowtalk" debuted at No. 1. Horan followed with "This Town," which reached No. 20 in January 2017. Styles struck next in April, when "Sign of the Times" arrived at its No. 4 peak, and Payne joined the club last month with "Strip That Down," featuring Quavo, which reaches a new peak this week, surging 25-16 with the Hot 100's top digital sales gain; it gains by 99 percent to 54,000 downloads sold in the week ending July 27, according to Nielsen Music, helped by a 69-cent sale tag in the iTunes Store. "Back to You" arrives with 35,000 first-week downloads sold, as well as 8 million U.S. streams. (Tomlinson had charted one prior solo entry: "Just Hold On," with Steve Aoki, hit No. 52 in December.) After "Strip" debuted, we combed through every band that has appeared on the Hot 100 (dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception) and found that it's pretty rare for five members of an act to chart solo, anywhere on the ranking. Our results found that Wu-Tang Clan boasts the most group members with solo Hot 100 entries: eight. (Note that this research doesn't include "supergroups," like Traveling Wilburys, or one-time all-star acts, such as USA for Africa.) Further, it's even rarer for five members of a group to score a solo top 40 hit on the Hot 100. In fact, One Direction joins only the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac in containing, at one time in their respective histories, five members with individual top 40 hits on the Hot 100. (Of Wu-Tang Clan's eight members with solo Hot 100 hits, only Raekwon and Ol' Dirty Bastard have cracked the top 40.) In order of their first charted solo hits, Eagles' Joe Walsh, Randy Meisner, Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Timothy B. Schmit have all hit the top 40 of the Hot 100 on their own. The band's former guitarist, Don Felder, almost made it six members, as his sole Hot 100 hit, "Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride)," peaked at No. 43. For Fleetwood Mac, Dave Mason, Bob Welch (both of whom weren't members of the band during its '70s/Rumours-era hitmaking heyday), Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie have all reached the Hot 100's top 40. Unlike 1D, whose five members were all in the group at the same time, neither Eagles nor Fleetwood Mac saw their respective solo charting members in those groups simultaneously. (In Eagles, Schmit replaced Meisner, while, in Fleetwood Mac, Welch left before Buckingham and Nicks joined, and Mason joined after Buckingham and Nicks had departed. Though, Buckingham and Nicks later returned, but after Mason had left.) Also of note: all six New Edition members have charted top 10 Hot 100 hits, although three did so together as a trio: Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant have notched entries individually, while Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe teamed for two top 10s as Bell Biv DeVoe. As a group, One Direction boasts 29 Hot 100 entries (10 of which followed Zayn's March 2015 departure); Fleetwood Mac has scored 25, including one No. 1 ("Dreams" in 1977), and Eagles, 21, including five No. 1s. "Best Song Ever" is 1D's highest-charting Hot 100 hit, having launched and peaked at No. 2 in 2013.

NJ election results: Primary election results from Bergen, Morris and Passaic counties
(Photo: Anne-Marie Caruso/NorthJersey.com)
In major races throughout Bergen and Passaic counties, many voters in Tuesday’s primary election turned away from entrenched incumbents and party favorites. Incumbents lost key races for their party’s nomination throughout the region.
In Democratic-dominated Englewood and Palisades Park, mayoral primary candidates Michael Wildes and Chris Chung won the Democratic nominations to run for mayor in their towns. Wildes defeated Phil Meisner, who is the Englewood Democratic chairman, and Chung defeated Mayor James Rotundo.
“This is a victory for the people of this community who said loud and clear that they want to renew Englewood and move our city forward," Wildes, a former mayor of the city, said in a statement. "I thank everyone who supported our campaign and I look forward to working with all residents for the betterment of our city, regardless of who they supported.”
Chung, a Palisades Park councilman, defeated Rotundo by about 100 votes, according to preliminary results. He could become the first Korean-American mayor of the borough.
"It was very exciting. I went out and knocked on every door," Chung said. "The whole community came together, and the hard work paid off. I’m so happy for the people of Palisades Park. I’m hoping to a make a better community overall.”
Rotundo refused to concede on Tuesday night.
"I’m pretty confident I will be victorious at the end of this thing," he said. "I think the voters came out to support me. I think the opposition tried to steal the election by coming in at the primary and not in the general election.”
Saddle River Councilwoman Elizabeth Salazer will not be able to seek reelection. According to preliminary results, the Republican councilwoman placed third in a pool of four candidates vying for two nominations to run for the council.
In East Rutherford, Councilman Jeffrey J. Lahullier also appeared to lose in the borough’s Republican primary. Councilman George E. Perry received enough votes to go on to the general election, however, and will seek one of two open seats on the Borough Council alongside fellow winner Joel Brizzi.
West Milford Councilman Tim Wagner was ousted in the township’s Republican primary in favor of candidates Ada Erik and Marilyn Lichtenberg.
In Bergen County, Republicans Hector Olmo and Eric Kulmala bested two party opponents seeking the nomination to run for two open seats on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. They are running against Democrats Steven Tanelli and Tracy Silna Zur.
Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco will fight to keep his seat in November against Republican challenger Norman Schmelz, who defeated Paul A. Duggan in the Republican primary, according to preliminary results.
