I think a reason why a lot of "post-Madoka" magical girl shows don't appeal to me isn't just the usual answers you get (they're darker, they have gore/rape, etc.). All of those are alarming and things I find gratuitous, but thinking about it, there's another thing that resonates with me specifically: They focus/take inspiration from aspects of Madoka that I don't particularly think much about/find interesting.

This isn't a universal thing, but a lot of post-Madoka shows I watch really like to play up the fighting between magical girls. That was a component of the original 12-episode PMMM--and for this post, I'm thinking specifically about those original twelve episodes, not the spin-offs or anything--but a lot of later shows I watch (Magical Girl Raising Project, Granbelm, etc.) really lean into that aspect. And it's... not really the aspect of Madoka I liked. Like yes, we are told that Magical Girls in PMMM fight each other, but look at the actually events of the original show: it's just Sayaka and Kyouko, and their beef lasts only an episode and a half. They never become friends, but they do stop fighting once they learn that Kyubey has played them both.

If you talk to me long enough, read any of the things I write, any of the RPs I write with other people, you'll know that I really like folkloric/occult/mythical tropes and ideas. I've been reading a lot of Norse mythology lately (partly out of interest, partly for research for something...) and I liked all the vague fairy tale imagery in Madoka. All the Faust stuff in the background, and the Hans Christian Andersen parallels to Sayaka's arc, that's what I'm into. The action/scenes and fighting... those are fun, but they aren't enough to get me interested. I kind of need to also like the context surrounding those actions scenes to get into things. You can see this is other magical girl works that I'm really into--I liked all the fairy tale lore in Sailor Moon, the opera/ballet/fairy tale stuff in Princess Tutu, and others like that.

(The fact that all these ideas are most likely Inu Curry just messing around and not original to Urobuchi's writing also makes this funny in hindsight. My favorite element of the show and it isn't even intended to be there. This might also be partly why pointing out that Madoka takes cues from Kamen Rider Ryuki kind of falls flat to me, though I did like Ryuki--every person who points this out just likes bringing up the "people with powers fighting each other" aspect and like, that's not really something I get excited about.)

It took a while for me to figure this out. I never really noticed it, but I think my brain kind of did. I guess if I ever write an original magical girl story, it would lean more into that kind of imagery than the action (though there would still be action, don't get me wrong), or even the "dark" tone.

A little confuses at the moment... Pretty sure I just got blocked by a roleplay blog that wasn't happy about the new COTL art.

I made a joke about how the devs can sometimes wreck headcanons and art blogs kinda have to cope any way they can, but I made sure to note that even though the devs make content about Narilamb, it isn't the "official couple"; you don't have to like it! That'd defeat the whole point of marrying who you want!

I mistook their argument that Narilamb wasn't possible in "their world" as a debate over why some people like it at all, to which I tried to give some reasons as to why, as well as an explanation about COTL's references to various things in mythology since they claimed Christianity wasn't present at all and the art made no sense.

I then realized it was a roleplay blog, apologizing for trying to explain dev stuff/themes and misunderstanding the post. They responded in character, to which I decided to play along (to lighten the mood) and ask if I was going to be sacrificed for speaking such heresy, to which they replied that sacrifices were honorable and that they could just murder me. I then said I'd stay awake so that they couldn't murder me without losing faith.

Then they blocked me.

I'm not sure if they blocked me because I crossed a line/was too rude, to continue being in character, or if they were just mad I was ruining their RP or something.

Not really looking to get anything out of this, just thought it was an interesting experience. I won't mention who it is by name and if they do end up reading this, I'm sorry if I seriously upset you.

🌺 Hello lovelies! I'm a 21+ year old woman looking for someone to do a MxM original fantasy rp with!

🌻 I'm looking for someone who is interested in a degree of world building and plotting. I would love a "classic" medieval-esque world but I'm also open to alternative ideas as well (urban modern fantasy, other pseudo-historical settings... whatever else you can think of!). Our world doesn't have to be super original, in fact I'm very open to taking from existing IP and mixing and matching as we want but I love getting to come up with some lore that could be relevant to our characters (think "how does magic work?", "what abilities and weaknesses do our vampires have?", "what are the different elven cultures like? How do they view humans? how do the humans view them?" etc.)

🌷 Despite loving to world build I prefer character-driven/focused stories overall and am not overly interested in pure "action" (combat etc.).

🌼 For the roleplay, I would love to stick to one main (MxM) couple but I'm open to including other MxM or FxF side pairings as well (not a requirement and I don't mind sticking to only our main guys!). No MxF though, please! I am also more than open to focusing on important platonic relationships for our characters.

🌸 One thing I want to note is that I don't like it when MxM (or FxF) pairings emulate heterosexual gender roles. There should not be the feeling of "this character is the woman in the relationship because he bottoms" (of course I'm not against a man who is more feminine when it comes to his mannerisms or interests, I just don't want to have the feeling that this is a straight couple just with the pronouns switched out so please no stereotypical top/bottom or seme/uke dynamics).

🌻I'm open to eventually writing smut and we can discuss the details of that as well but please keep in mind I'm not really looking for a roleplay that overly focuses on that.

🌺I write in 3rd person, past or present tense depending on your preference but please no 1st or 2nd person. When it comes to post length, I'm not super sure what I'm looking for and don't want to limit myself either way but I think shorter posts might be easier for me to handle while starting out (of course it also depends on what is going on in the roleplay and I think starters/time skips probably require longer posts anyway). I would prefer to roleplay on Discord.

alright, i didn’t study theology for nothing.

a while back, i alluded to the idea that there was a trinity to be made out of dreamXD, c!dream, and the server itself.  given our (extremely limited) knowledge of the connections between them, i still think this is plausible and that it gives us an interesting way to look at how divinity functions in the dsmp.

but the connections between the three are unclear, nonexistent in some places, and repetitive in others.  here’s what i’m putting together so far, with the classic christian trinity on the left and the dsmp on the right:

yeah it’s uh.  it’s weird.  

i put the particularly weird parts in red.  the “is not” between dreamxd and cdream gets a “?” because although dreamxd implied that the connection between them is skin-deep, i’m sus about it.  The connection between cdream and the server itself is unknown, though i have no real evidence of it existing.  also the server is in... two places.  it could be at the center.  it could be an aspect.  it could be both-- mythologies are sometimes weird that way.

and, yes, i did place each aspect in their respective corners of the chart.  dreamxd as “the father” is logical-- he’s referenced as a creator, he has a Realm, he visibly has some level of control over the server and the people in it.  the server itself is “the holy spirit”-- a more abstract and omnipresent force that may or may not interact with the living.

and, naturally, i placed c!dream in the spot of “the son.”  i don’t think i’m making a huge leap here.

he’s the only human in this trinity, and although the level of connection he has with dreamxd is shaky at best, the parallels between him and christ are there.  think for a second about the function of public torture-- not ALL of cdream’s torture was displayed, but if you categorize isolation and dehumanization as torture (which i personally am), then much of it was.  think about wounds that remain and are displayed, injuries used as proof of identity and of aforementioned public torture, torture that is made Even More Public by the one who was tortured.  both victims allowed the torture to happen to themselves to complete a goal.  all while having an unknown connection to “the father.”

(and, of course, take a second to consider where you might place c!quackity or c!sam in this comparison.  is c!punz our judas?)

i agree.  and it makes this Way Better.

christ’s suffering was to serve a purpose, and it was a temporary pain meant to alleviate eternal pain.  lucifer’s suffering is eternal.  it is a punishment.  moreover, it is something he chooses.

“Iblees (Satan) name comes from the root بلس (balasa) which means to give up hope or to despair, because he despaired in the mercy of God.

tommy is right.  the name satan implies an individual who returns back to their hell out of the belief that they have no other options.  it’s a self-flagellation.  i’m reminded a lot of C.S. Lewis’s interpretation of hell where people can leave hell at any moment but keep walking forward into their own isolation instead.  given his freedom, dream returned back to the prison anyway.  christ, you’ll recall, didn’t go back to the cross.  

dream is a fallen christ.  some would say that lucifer was, as well.

christ and lucifer are both a part of what many multi-pantheon worshippers and online theologians refer to as “the suffering gods,” which also includes deities like prometheus.  beyond even that, judeo-christian scripture itself makes the connections between christ and lucifer super clear:

lucifer means “light bringer.”  christ is called by the same title.

lucifer is often nicknamed “morning star.”  christ is called by the same title.

ctommy: “[c!dream] is living in his own hell.  you know why?  because he’s lucifer.” ctubbo:  “mr. morning star?”

kinda funny of tubbo to say that when “mr. morning star” could literally be Either christ or satan.  and honestly, in this trinity, i’m not sure the difference matters.  regardless, we have a human man with divinity in his flesh, who has suffered publicly as an example, who has been more of a CHRIST until very recently, when he chose to return to his place of torment.  that action alone makes him more of a LUCIFER.  a morning star regardless.  and a great addition to the messy trinity we got goin’ on.
