Idea for all you pagans and witches out there: If you get Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons or those sorts knocking at your door, instead of politely turning them away, don on your most witchy, out-there, non-christian-friendly accessories and attire and open the door.
Be cheerful and welcoming! Say you’re more then open to chat about spirituality, take their pamphlets, try to show them any books of your own you have, hell, even invite them inside for a cup of tea by your altar to Odin.
I don’t know how it’ll go down, but I’m almost certain the interaction will be funny af.

i really do think something a lot of people (especially christians) don't understand is that atheism only answers one question: do you believe god(s) exist? atheism says nothing about ideology or beliefs held, it's simply an answer to that one question. the only thing you know for sure two atheists have in common is that they both don't believe in the existence of gods. there are atheist scientists and there are atheists that are anti-science. there are lgbtq atheists and there are anti-lgbtq atheists. there are right wing atheists and left wing atheists. "atheists believe [xyz]" is almost always nonsensical because atheism is not an ideology with things to believe in. "atheists believe in science" is just as true as "atheists don't believe in science" because atheism answers ONE question and people with all kinds of ideologies and beliefs and identities are atheists.

When I was in high school a person at a local youth group encouraged kids to get rid of their alarm clock and trust Jesus to wake them up on time. It was wild watching a whole bunch of youth group kids be late to class for a week

The whole transandrophobia discussion thing is weird bc it feels like it's a bunch of poc and jewish trans people being like "here are my experiences of how specifically being MASCULINE had affected me, and the discrimination and violence I experienced based on that. And here is how that relates to me being a racial/ethnic minority"
And then a few loud white trans people going "ohhh you wanna be oppressed so bad you *slur*. This is why there aren't any poc in your movement it's because REAL poc understand intersectionality"

Let me know because I'm interested. I didn't have super good experiences but I wouldn't call them bad, just odd. Particularly as it comes to the leadership, but I wondered what other people thought :D

One thing I can’t stand about the X Orthobros is how they’ll have unending love and compassion for boys/men who struggle with porn addiction and have dabbled in premarital sexual activity, but whenever a woman with a sexual past comes into the Church and wants to find a husband, all of a sudden they’re screeching about how she’s a disgusting whore who can’t be trusted and isn’t fit for marriage. It’s like Christ Himself didn’t offer a chance for repentance to prostitutes and promiscuous women right there in the Bible.

novena prayer group roundup!
So October is a big month for prayer-- it's the month of the Holy Rosary, after all! But it is also the month of the International Mental Health Awareness day, and the month for mental health awareness as outlined by the American Catholic Church. Part of this is the Mental Health Novena, a nine day official prayer (10th-18th of October) praying for the intersession of saints and the like ranging from St. Dymphna to St. Thérèse of Lisieux to the Holy Family for the healing and safety of those who are suffering or have loved ones suffering from mental illness. Each day is a different facet of mental health awareness:
Day 1 – Removing Stigmas (St. Dymphna)
Day 2 – Families (The Holy Family)
Day 3 – Mental Health Ministry (St. John of God)
Day 4 – Childhood (St. Thérèse of Lisieux)
Day 5 – Youth and Young Adults (St. Kateri Tekakwitha)
Day 6 – Effects of Racial Discrimination on Mental Health (St. Martin de Porres)
Day 7 – Poverty and Mental Health (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
Day 8 – Suicide Awareness (Dorothy Day)
Day 9 - Grief (St. Jane Frances de Chantal) & Conclusion (St. John the Evangelist)
Now comes the prayer group roundup: for those interested, I ask that you take time in the morning and before bed to join me and everyone else in praying each day of this novena. Take two moments in your day to think of those of our or our loved ones dealing with mental illness, as well as praying for those who have lost their lives to such a battle. If you plan to participate, I ask you like, or reblog, or comment! The more the merrier. Each day I will be adding a reflection onto a rb of this post with the official prayer for the day. If you would like to add a specific name of a person/etc to be prayed for, please feel free to put them in the comments! I will be updating a list of any left on this post so everyone can see them.
Here is the novena and a detailed explanation for each day:
Thank you, and God bless. Mary, mother of the mentally ill, Joseph, protector of the mentally ill, and Christ's most Sacred Heart, pray for us!

Mihalis [False Colors @elsabet-writes]
Mihalis is a blood mage who became a business major so he wouldn’t have to beat people up, only to shatter his pacifist ideals when he hit finals. He’s the best in his chosen field, but he’s also bitter and vengeful, and more than a little sleep deprived. He runs on caffeine and the desire to crush his enemies. Mihalis is tall and dark, but missed handsome by a mile and has made up for it by sheer force of personality. However, his tendency to glower arrogantly at all and sundry is not so much down to his self-important disposition as much as the fact that he SHOULD be wearing glasses and refuses to. (Because having them hang around his neck on a beaded chain would tarnish his image and he loses them otherwise.) (He doesn’t actually wear a three piece suit in the story setting, but my sister is the artist, and he’s wearing a suit in the reference picture she used, so my world building explanation is that he is visiting someone from a culture where they DO wear three piece suits, and is not only disgusted by the very concept of a necktie, but also utterly horrified at how small their coffee cups are.)
Max Way [Sons of the Star @thegreenleavesofspring]
Max Way is the leader of a biker gang and a vigilante who fights human trafficking in his home city. He is gruff, violent, fierce, and fiercely honorable. His creed is to always protect women, children, the innocent, and the weaker, and he rules his six younger brothers with a rod of iron.

i was thinking about the sleep deprivation thing that cults do and something i completely forgot about with regards to that conversation is that the sleep needs of children/teens are different to adults. it's a range as most things are, but when it comes to sleep you HAVE to go based off the biggest number to ensure everyone gets proper sleep because you cannot function properly without proper sleep
so, if you were a teenager who went to church camps and they allowed for less than 10 hours of sleep, or if you were a kid (6-12) and they allowed for less than 12 hours of sleep, you very well may have been sleep deprived, either intentionally or unintentionally
and as a little bonus: adults tend to respond to sleep deprivation with tiredness, but kids tend to respond with hyperactivity, and even one night of sleep deprivation can affect someone

Polyamorous Christians & their supporters
This is soooo last minute but! Starting this evening, QueerTheology is holding a "Poly Possibilities" virtual workshop — 90 minutes at 7:30pm EST on Tuesday Sept 10, 17, 24.
"Each week, Brian will bring some discussion questions to get us started exploring the intersections of polyamory and faith AND working through the real world implications of how polyamory and our faith communities impact one another"
I decided on going just now haha, they're leaving registration open till the last minute it seems! It's $72 to register (and with that cost you also get access to other resources they have).
If that cost is prohibitive for you but you really want to go, hit me up — I can help you cover $30 of it, or I'm happy to tell you about what gets discussed and share any resources they promote.
Here's the link with more info + to register!
