Hozier album of your choice for the game 💿💿💿

Okay, this was actually SO hard to do

Because at first i wanted to do the self titled one BUT 5 songs from it would mean half of the album so I went with Unreal Unearth (even though my faves from this album keep changing, I need to listen to it mooore)

1. De selby (part 1) - it's a perfect intro song imo, it sets the mood very well, it has Irish, it has a choir, it has a nice transition into part 2, it has everything you need

2. Damage gets done - 💗

3. Son of nyx - okay listen. I'm a sucker for intros, interludes and outros. So I love this one. It brings other songs together beautifully

4. To someone from a warm climate (uiscefhuaraithe) - it's just. His voice is so angelic and the song is simply beautiful. Cried on the first listen.

5. First light - goosebumps.

Ahhh okay this is so cute. Im going to try to explain this as best as I can, Pile 1. So this seems like a concept album. The idea of the album (not the sound but idea ya know) reminds me of “Melodrama” by Lorde. I’ll leave a quote here for a better description but it’s like a concept album about a single night

“Melodrama is described as a loose concept album that explores the theme of solitude, in the framework of a single house party with the events and moods that entail it”

The album about you is similar in the sense that it’s a “loose concept album” but it’s about the writer seeing you. It’s like you’re at this party that the songwriter is also at and they’re obsessed from the moment they lay eyes on you. You’re like this beautiful unobtainable being to them and they want to get to know you so bad but they just can’t seem to talk to you. This could also progress to a one night stand that never progresses to more because of a lack of communication to this album is going through the writer meeting you and watching you throughout the night and then goes into their regrets and what they wish they would have said to you the next day, if that makes sense.

They see you at a party and think you’re so beautiful but can’t seem to find the words to tell you that. I keep hearing “I like the way my bedsheets look on your body” from “hello!” By role model. (I believe that’s the right song but lmk if it’s wrong so I can fix it!) and I keep being reminded of this musician on TikTok “Chappell Roan” and their song “Red Wine Supernova” I think that’s similar to what this album would sound like and it also fits the aesthetic. I highly recommend you listen to this song because it fits your album so perfectly. I tried to find a lyric that resonates the best to include but they all work so well that I couldn’t choose.

Despite this entire album being about only you and just one night leading into the next morning, it’s still so diverse (I hope that makes sense) like you’d think there’s only so many songs you could write about a 12ish hour time frame and one person but this writer has endless things to say about you and the night you met them. I could see one song having a feature and it’s later in the album somewhere between tracks 7-12 or so. The aesthetic of the album is very neon lights, the dance floor on prom night after everything has died down and people are starting to go home, slow, melodramatic and just really pretty. Again, I highly recommend you check out “Red Wine Supernova” because it fits so well.

Pile Two

Pile two, your album sounds like one written by Hozier, Noah Kahan or The Lumineers. It reminds me a lot of “Angela” by The Lumineers. Specifically the lyric “Angela, spent your whole life running away” and “vacancy, hotel room, lost in me, lost in you” it also reminds me of Ethel Cain in the sense that it’s a concept album about running away and starting a new life (but not as dark as ethel’s and with a much better outcome than she got. I heard “success story” it’s about leaving behind a difficult past and moving forward. There’s hope for the future in these songs, remembrance of the past and healing trauma. It’s a beautiful album with a good balance of different emotions. I could see this album coming with a short film or a series of music videos that piece together to tell a store. Similar to “III” by the Lumineers.

I keep hearing a few snippets from the deluxe version of “Stick Season” (that will be out June 9th 👀) like “Medicate meditate swear your soul to Jesus / Throw a punch fall in love give yourself a reason” or “we ain’t angry at you love, you’re the greatest thing we’ve lost” it’s such a beautiful album with so much soul and emotion.

I could see this album getting an acoustic live version that artists do sometimes like “Album, live from Wherever” you know? This album has very unique and catchy lyrics that stick with people, the type of lyrics people take and sell on things in their Etsy shop or use as a quote in their yearbook or put in their instagram bio. It almost feels like poetry. I also heard “escapism” this is the type of music that paints a picture and takes you somewhere else. This album will kind of chronologically tell a story about you moving forward and healing from trauma and finding a peaceful ending. Ending with a song like “Angelia”

Pile Three

I feel like this album has a soft rock sort of sound? Like hozier with a rockier edge if that makes sense? It reminds me of the way hozier sings about love. He sings about a very deep and impactful love and his writing his like poetry and I think that’s what an album about you would sound like. I think this album could be about the writer/musician fighting feelings for you because they’re focused on career or are just concerned about the outcome of the relationship. They might have a fear of falling or something.

However, the last card I pulled was the 10 of cups so the outcome is very good. I feel like this album is coming from a reflective place like this is after yourself and your spouse have settled down and had kids or pets or whatever you would like and your partner is looking back at your relationship from the very beginning up until now and writing about it.

I keep hearing “I’m in love with an emo girl” I don’t think this is what the album will sound like but maybe that’s your aesthetic/vibe? This might just be conformation for you. I also keep hearing that Shania Twain song “you’re still the one” this is the kind of album that fans would dissect like narrow down the time you met your person and talk about every lyric and how that lyric relates to you and your relationship etc. this album talks about how devoted and in love with you your person is but also talks about the (I heard “trials and tribulations”) it took for you two to get there so it may include religious reference. Like religion by Lana Del Rey or Don’t Blame Me by Taylor Swift where there’s this slight aspect of religion/devotion to your partner.

You hear a lot about how you have to actively choose your partner everyday to make a long term relationship work and this album would definitely delve into that a little. It could also be produced by you and your partner’s mutual friends or people who have been there since the beginning or very early in in your relationship. I think this would be a longer album and there’s definitely 18+ songs on there 👀

- better love from the legend of tarzan soundtrack is an absolute gem and is so so so so good.

- also all of his covers of other songs are excellent. so. go listen to those

HAVE FUN i know this took forever to read but honestly i can't stress enough how much the entire albums are worth listening to outside of just specific songs. they're so well crafted and andrews voice is just so breathtaking and powerful ARGHH i'm insane. anyway listen to his entire discography the man never misses

Ngl I had a quite spectacularly shitty year on a personal level. But I just went to Germany to see my sister and to attend the best concert I've ever been to so even though the month is not over I am going to say December. Also it's good to have hope I guess, the year can still get better.

i’m about to go to sleep but i wanted to ask you: what are your 5 desert island albums. only music you can ever listen to again, so choose wisely!!

Oof, very difficult but very good question! This is hard cause I have so many albums that I can listen to over and over again in short burts, but if it's for the rest of my life I'd probably still get bored of them eventually lmao

But first and foremost probably Danger Days by My Chemical Romance. It is kinda impossible to choose just one MCR album but definitely need some MCR to get me through it. I think Danger Days is probably the one I listen to the most so we'll go with that.

Then probably Folie a Duex by Fall Out Boy. Again, it is literally impossible to pick just one Fall Out Boy album but Folie a Deux is probably my favourite.

Then most likely Dookie by Green Day. I was tossing up so hard over either Dookie or American Idiot but I think I'm settling on this answer. This album was my shit in high school.

I'm now tossing up between three albums but I think next I would take Hozier (2014). I have only recently started listening to Hozier but already I have a feeling that if I was stranded on a desert island I would need to take this album with me.

After much careful deliberation, I have decided on one final album to take with me; What's the Story Morning Glory? by Oasis. It's one of my favourite albums of all time and I feel like if i didn't take it with me I would miss it too much. Also it is long so it would keep me entertained for a while.

i worked on a chapter of a collab fic, which i've never done before!

probably chicago pd inspired me most this year (it falls perfectly in that area of the characters being brilliant yet trapped in source media that's good but flawed)

upstead! i went Through some stuff with this ship this year my lord. (also the sylki obsession + reylo obsession that never seems to die)

julian devorak Captured My Heart. i didn't expect to like his character that much when i started playing the arcana but i absolutely fell for him <3

both of the above were new for me this year!

ooh it's difficult to choose but love languages meant the most to me. (also, honourable mention to the as yet unpublished, unfinished, untitled upstead wip i have on the backburner. that one is really close to my heart.)

bittersweet made me the happiest, i had SO much fun writing it i could not shut up the whole time. i made my irls read the fic, i was that happy with it

this one's easy - ice cube was the most satisfying to finish. it was an idea i had in the wip folder for a long time, and also, it gave me a chance to revisit a ship/fandom i fell off writing for years ago, which was nice

most difficult would probably also be love languages just because of the format. (i wanted it to be a 5 + 1 things fic but ran out of time so 5 things it is.) time period, chapter titles, pov, so many decisions to make! plus it's the longest thing i've written so far.

hmm easiest to write might be dip of every neck. (maybe because it was largely inspired by a scene in another fic that i love)

shortest: my chapter of i <3 u, a collab work where each chapter had a 127 character limit (37 words). longest: love languages (8600 words).

ooh i listened to a bunch of music so if i start listing it'll just turn into spotify wrapped, but i listened to a lot of hozier (ofc), chance peña has good writing songs, and also billie eilish's new album was so good

MAN i went through so many terrible title ideas for balanced dualism

can i get one conversation at least is my favourite title, i mean it's a lyric but i love it. it was inspired by an upstead edit i saw on tiktok with that song, ugh it was great

as well as microsoft word, i discovered 4thewords this year (i liked its gamification). i write by hand when i have snippets that pop into my head randomly

i don't do a whole lot to celebrate finishing a fic per se, but after i've published them i always give them about a week to marinate before rereading them

nothing gives you the motivation to write more than reading more! fic and novels both. (also scrolling lists of prompts forever but-)

See this is kinda difficult because most of my fics are just one shots and some do have a song that fits but a whole album hmmm

It's just you and I - idk some christmas songs compilation album. Whatever keeps you around - unreal unearth - hozier (see title(it was between this or: i'd still know you(i don't need to know where we begin and end)). Should just tell you to leave - 1989 - taylor swift (see title). All this terrible danger - the tortured poets department - taylor swift (see title). Stay forever and a day - the fame - lady gaga, maybe not specifically this fic but that's what I listen to mostly when writing bartylus

27. if you could teleport into one of your fics which one would you want to go into the most? which one would you want to go into the least?

None of my fics have really elaborate worldbuilding, but I'd choose either of my moonwater fics, because they're both no voldemort AUs (well one of them is pwp, but in my mind it takes place in a no voldemort AU)

For the least I'm going with all this terrible danger. It's focussed on the first wizarding war with mcd, so no thanks.

1. Song of the year?

Ohh boy. Starting off with a hard one, are we?

This has been a very joyous and fulfilling year for me, musically speaking. I've discovered lots of new instant loves, re-discovered amazing artists I hadn't listened to in a while, saw some of my favourite artists live -- it's been great! And choosing just one song is quite the difficult task, ha.

As runner-ups, I'd like to mention the incredible Pink Pony Club from Chappell Roan's iconic The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess album, because she's been my favourite discovery this year (and this specific song has accompanied me on many a singing-crying session in my car); Beyoncé's II HANDS II HEAVEN because I have spent an inordinate amount of time in the company of her COWBOY CARTER album; finally, Hozier's From Eden because I am still not over the fact that he sang it live when I went to see his show folks he SANG it LIVE in FRONT of ME OH MY GOD --

This being said... I think the title of 'song of the year' for me has to go to Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears. I rediscovered it at the beginning of the year, when it became the core of the soundtrack for a project of mine, and it's been a loyal companion through all these months.

9. Best month for you this year?

This is a very good question! I'm not sure. One of the spring months, for certain (by which I mean one among March, April, May, and June); that's always when I'm happier. I think possibly May? I took a lovely seaside vacation in May, went on a lot of sun-lit walks while the temperatures were still humane, saw a couple of fun movies, spent time with my friends, and lots of other fun things. It was nice!

14. Favorite book you read this year?

Yet another hard one! I've read quite a lot of amazing books this year. I really loved the latest one (so far), Circe by Madeline Miller, a retelling of the myth of Circe the enchantress, of Greek mythology fame. However, I think the one that had the strongest impact on me was Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke -- it drew me in from page 1, to the point where I couldn't put it down, and I'm still reeling from it months later.

i've seen sooo many movies this year, so it's really difficult to choose, i'd feel bad for choosing only one😭 BUT aftersun, yi yi, boże ciało, akira and tangerine are definitely in my top 5 hehe. and aftersun might be The movie for me this year, it was so moving and it's engraved in my brain now

i'd love to go to many concerts this year as well!! i've never been to as many as last year and i loved the experience so that would be fun!

If you don’t know “Vienna” by Billy Joel I am going to assume that your entire life has been spent living under a rock (it is my favorite song out of all songs which is wild because it doesn’t fit into my usual music taste)

I would have a very difficult time choosing a favorite artist but my most streamed artist is Set It Off. My most streamed song by them is “Fake Ass Friends” which is not my favorite, I think right now my favorite is “Crutch” (which didn’t even make the list) but my all time favorite is “Plastic Promises”

My hundredth song is “Wouldn’t You Like” from the fourth album of the Epic soundtrack, my favorite bit isn’t a lyric exactly but the unhinged laughter makes it one of my favorites in the whole soundtrack

4. top song i cannot choose an all-time favourite song so i’m just gonna expose myself with my most listened-to song of all time, which is. uh. um. dna by bts….. ahem anyways. the madness of the kpop days is long past. my most listened non-kpop song is dress by taylor swift somehow?? yeah ok :D

5. top album i don’t generally listen to full albums but any ts album is obviously amazing. i also love love love the war: act ii by the family crest. flawless. also how to be a human being by glass animals, mots7 by bts, never gonna dance again: act 1 by taemin and eyes wide open by twice (<- ik i said the kpop madness is long gone but these are great albums i swear)

hello! the amazing @callouiee tagged me in their post spelling their url with songs they like for me to do the same if i wanted and i thought it would be fun! they made theirs l&h/larrie related but i have such a long url that i think I’m going to use my favorite songs as well! this will also give me an excuse to gush about some of my fav songs

so i wrote the above paragraph and then tried to find and narrow down songs which proved to be very difficult lol. i probably made it harder on myself than needed bc i wanted to choose best and most perfect songs but there are just too many. this is the best list i could come up with, but i feel pretty good with it! if anyone ever wants to talk music, i’m so down i have so many favorites.

p.s. i really truly did gush about every song i’m so sorry for how long this is

s- Satellite (Harry Styles) this song is my baby. i love her with every fiber of my being. i have dance parties by myself in my apartment when this song comes on i literally can’t get enough of it. i honestly thought matilda would be my fav song off harry’s house cause like... it’s matilda, but this is the song i come back to most often from that album.

u- U.N.I (Ed Sheeran) okay so i have so many distinct memories listening to this song on the bus to/from middle school. anything from ed’s + album was my favorite. his stuff from that time used to be my favorite music along with 1D. i thought i was so cool when i memorized the rap part lol

n- No Children (The Mountain Goats) i will admit i did find this song through the tiktok trend but i absolutely loved that trend, i thought it was so cute. i listened to the full song shortly after discovering the song and it shortly became my second most listened to song of last year. w/o getting into too much detail, this song holds a special place in my therapy journey lol 

f- Fine Line (Harry Styles) what is there to say about her? she probably holds the biggest spot in music related to my healing journey. i fully annotated her once through the lens of my own therapy and healing journey. she means a lot a lot to me

l- Like Real People Do (Hozier) i am a hozier slut and i’m not afraid to admit it. i love anything this man puts out. sometimes i listen to his music like i’m a thirsty begger and his music is the only water that’s been offered to me in weeks. i could have put any of his songs on this list and you would have gotten the same reaction out of me. he makes me feel feral and ethereal at the same time.

o- Outer Space/Carry on (5SOS) god this song will never not get me. this song was my fine line of my middle school/high school years. if i ever see this song live i’m pretty sure i’ll die on the spot. i have a half-ish sleeve tattoo planned around this song. there’s like five songs on this list that i have tattoos planned around but none of them as big as this one. everything about this song is just perfect.

w- Written All Over Your Face (Louis Tomlinson) do i even need to say anything about this one? it’s been on repeat since the album came out. it’s literally so good and i know it’s everyone’s favorite but it’s for a damn good reason. have you heard louis’ voice?????? literally perfection absolute bop and i can’t stop listening to it. this is louis’ sound and i’m so proud of him

e- Emotions (5SOS) any time i make a new playlist of things i’m currently listening to to have one shuffle/repeat, i put this entire album on there. i feel like the more i listen to it, the more addicted i get. also, Liz told me this song was very me codded and i feel like that’s so true. i’m always in my emotions lol. also also, that little clap/slap that happens every so often in this song gives me an unnecessary amount of serotonin. 

r- Right Now (1D) i also could have put any one direction song on this list but there’s something about this song that has always had a grip on my brain. immediate performance mode whenever this song comes on. they’re my boys. my babies. i’ve been a fan for a decade now which is absolutely wild. i miss them

s- Spaces (1D) this might have to be in my top 5 favorite one d songs. i don’t know if i even have an actual top 5 but if i did, this song would be in it. i feel like i’m ascending whenever i listen to this song; it’s similar vibes to satellite in dance party mode for me if that makes sense lol i can’t help but move whenever i hear this song

o- Only the Brave (Louis Tomlinson) again, does this need any explanation? there was a while when i couldn’t listen to this song bc it hurt my closeted heart too much. it still makes me sad but also very optimistic. i hope i can hear this song live one day surrounded by fellows queers who’ve also found their family through the boys. it doesn’t make it a solo song anymore then does it? we’re a family; more of a family than any church i’ve been a part of. 

m- Mum (Luke Hemmings) another album where i could put literally any song on this list bc i love them all so much. this song, however, beats the others out ever so slightly as being my favorite. i’m noticing a pattern with my favorite songs: satellite, spaces, mum. they all have a really big build up to an absolute cathartic release later on in the song. mum does give me church song vibes but in the least song ruining way possible. this song actually inspired me to make a playlist of songs that make me feel like im ascending whenever i listen to them

e- Egg and Soldier (Cosmo Sheldrake) okay okay okay i know you’re thinking that this song came super duper out of left field and is really weird and i definitely agree but here me out. all of his songs are super fun and kinda weird but so so cool and unique and unpredictable. i have yet to come across a song of his i don’t love. they all make me feel so connected to my inner child/the creativity i pushed away for so long.

t- To Be Alone (Hozier) again, i’m a hozier slut. this might be my favorite song of his but i’m unsure if i can even pick a favorite hozier song. that slide on ‘feeeeeels good’ gets me every single time. i’m weak in the knees i’m obsessed. the grungy, dirty electric guitar???? i can’t it’s too much 

i- If I Could Fly (One Direction) i couldn’t not add this one. it’s iconic and makes me cry maybe half of the time i listen. who let them write, record, and release this song? it’s literally so raw and vulnerable and i know i’ve written some pretty raw poetry but i don’t think i’ve ever written anything on this level. like ?????? i forget this song is a real song they released and not something a fanfic writer made up

m- Matter of Time (Ashton Irwin) god this album destroys me in the best way possible. and this song???? literally speaks to me and my soul. this is another one i want to get a tattoo of. it’s just like a warm hug from an older sibling/older friend. everything’s gonna be okay bud

e- evermore (Taylor Swift) I do love me some good taylor swift, especially folklore and evermore. i don’t think this one is my favorite, that’s probably the lakes, but i do remember hearing it for the first time and absolutely loosing it at the word switch at the end of the song. it still holds a special place in my heart for the hopefulness it’s able to give me whenever i don’t have a lot of it.

s- Sunflower Vol. 6 (Harry Styles) and we’re ending on the song that i wish i could be. if i could have the vibes of any song it would be this one. i’m one of those obnoxious people that make sunflowers their whole personality and whenever harry released this song i went feral for it. i love her so much and i hope i grow up and make her proud.
