So it looks like my plan to right the historical wrongs by only romancing Arthur in Guinevere will be going smoothly cause I'm honestly obsessed with Arthur. Like, I thought that the lack of obstacles in his romance with Guinevere might make it too dull compared to the Lancelot angst, but the writers said, 'Don't worry, girl, we gotcha,' and drenched this otherwise pretty vanilla romance with so much good old fashioned yearning I'm honestly going feral. Like listen, not only were Guinevere and Arthur both largely defined by the responsibility shoved upon them from birth/very young age, they also have kind of a terrifying relationship with the concept of fate, seeing themselves as mere tools made for a specific purpose, with their own agency being pretty limited. These two mfers never in their wildest dreams thought they would have a chance to do anything remotely selfish, like be with a person they love and not someone they have to be with for the sake of political gain. So when happiness simply falls into their hands and their arranged marriage is starting to look like it could be an actual happy, loving one, of course these two idiots won't know how to act on it. Can't wait for the moment they finally start opening up to each other and to the possibility of maybe there being a happily ever after for them after all, only to have fate come around once again to stomp on that sprout of hope and rip it apart in the most sick, twisted way possible.

Am I overjoyed that I chose Lancelot? Yes. Am I devastated that I hurt Arthur in the process? Yes.

Idk why I wanna write a fic based around my Guinevere MC, where her visions are more like a violent overtaking as opposed to the the subtle "they didn't even notice teehee" that PB likes to go with. Bc I feel like that's just a cheap cop out that they always pull with seer MC (BB MC in particular) so that they don't have to write in characters reacting to MC literally spacing out for 5-10 minutes.
But anyways, because her visions are so violent (and frequent), she's become sort of a mysterious recluse. And even tho she's a princess, a lot of people think of her as less of a witch, and moreso just insane. And she's the primary reason other kingdoms avoid any kind of connection with Carmelide, bc how would it look for them to be trading with a kingdom whose monarchs are mad? She knows this, which is why when King Arthur offers to marry her to form an alliance, she feels like she has no choice because she's the whole reason her kingdom is in trouble, anyway. This gives her a reason other than "idk its my job", now she has personal stake in this. Which is why when she finds herself falling more and more for Lancelot.... y'all see where I'm going with this.
Basically, I wanna do a whole "story" based around my own ideas and mc, as opposed to writing for the general MC.

Lancelot, to Guinevere: If Arthur doesn't say "I'm King of the world" within an hour on that boat, I will give you my next pay check.
Arthur, within 5 minutes of getting on the boat: I'M KING OF THE WORLD!!!

because at the end of the day it’s about how love and hate will destroy you equally. it’s about the fact that merlin and morgana both lost themselves because they became so consumed by their love and hate respectively that it made everything else not matter. because merlin loved arthur so much he hollowed himself out for the sake of it and morgana hated uther so much it ate her alive and became all she was

omg the bath scene in guinevere!!! i'm doing a slow burn, so i don't choose many romance choices. but even without them, there's such a nice rapport between guinevere and arthur. them getting a know each other and building trust with slight flirtation... ugh. i didn't want my guinevere being too forward by removing the bathing screen, and i love how it was written bc she still couldn't help but glance at his shadow and ik arthur must have been doing the same. it's been so long since i was able to enjoy a romance like this. really hoping the rest of the books continues like this
No really, it was so good! I had my MC go over to Arthur’s side because I love him already. And he was still so respectful (as expected of course) even though he’s clearly attracted to MC. Like I think the narration said something about him refusing to look lower than MC’s shoulders and staring at her with reverence or something like that 😭😍 It was really great writing. And I definitely agree with you about being able to enjoy everything that much more because these characters are actually trying to build trust instead of just diving in head first despite being betrothed. They have a lot of chemistry, so I hope the rest of the book continues to develop like this as well

hunith comes to camelot to visit merlin and absolutely no one can understand how this sweet, loving, caring, polite woman sired The Menace that is merlin. especially uther. he normally doesn’t care for peasants but since arthur is fond of merlin and merlin insists on…being merlin, he’s intrigued by how different hunith is. hunith keeps things civil tho she detests his policies on magic and the whole purge business, but then she sees firsthand how uther treats her son in law- i mean arthur. her anger grows quick and she sees it reflected in merlin but merlin adores arthur and doesn’t want to put his position at arthur’s right hand in jeopardy so he bites his tongue. hunith has no such reservations. she stands before uther, back straight and eyes meeting his. she speaks evenly as she rips him a new asshole for how he treats arthur before socking him in the jaw so hard he stumbles back and has to grab the table to stay on his feet. as shes glaring down at him everyone suddenly sees just how merlin is her son.

We deserved more of just Merlin
The little head tilt, the sweet voice and the tiny smile, the moment he asked Arthur:
“Don’t you?”
To Merlin, magic had always been there for everyone to see, to feel.
He is magic, after all.
For all those years, Merlin had believed what he felt was obvious, and that everyone else felt the same way. It was strange to Merlin that Arthur couldn’t understand that the forest, the animals, even the smallest, living in it, were sacred. Because life is sacred. He couldn’t grasp the reason why the knights couldn’t feel that the old Druids’ camp was haunted, and therefore didn’t believe him. He had literally heard death, and cried because of it.
“As if everything is much more than itself.”
The phrase could refer to him too. Merlin is much more than… Him.
That’s what brought his doom. He had never had the chance to truly know himself. He was either a servant, or the sorcerer of a prophecy, or a Dragonlord.
Never just him.
And in this moment we see he had missed being one with nature, breathing in the animals’ lives. He was himself again.
He was vibrating, much like anything else there living with him.
They never went deep into Merlin’s powers, they were just there for Arthur. Merlin had lost sight of what he wanted to do with them, he even forgot he was so powerful he could have overthrown Arthur himself, if he really wished to.
Merlin was the only man alive able to see Avalon.
During the knights and the king’s quest to save Gwen, Merlin met the Queen of a Queendom no one had ever even seen.
He could have killed Morgana (and did try) multiple times, although she was an High Priestess, and simply decided not to, but he had more than just the power to do so.
The Catha, the Druids bowed to him, met him in the woods, called to him.
Merlin created a telepathic connection with Arthur the first days he was in Camelot.
He survived death multiple times.
His immortality forbid him to die.
Merlin hated hunting because he could feel the animals being scared, followed; he had recognised Gwen when Morgana transformed her into a deer; he could hear the magic around him, inside objects and inside people, like a whisper, as if it was nothing; he could call lightning from the sky.
He could stop the time, or at least slow it down.
Every magical being knew him by name only. But he was not a leader, he was just different.
“Is she like me?” “No one is like you, Merlin.”
After everything he had witnessed, even Gaius knew Merlin was special and did nothing to help him understand why he was.
Merlin was the reason Aithusa was born, why Kilgharrah was free, and we were robbed of him getting to really know his powers, both as a Dragonlord and as the most powerful sorcerer to ever walk the earth.
He literally deleted himself just to be at Arthur’ side, and it hurt him. We saw it constantly. He was sad not only because everyone and everything was against him, or because he couldn’t use magic for simple tricks, but because he couldn’t really know what he could do, both as a magical being and as just Merlin.
To study his powers meant treason and death, and Merlin forbid himself to go beyond what he already knew.
His incapacity to understand, his lack of will to know, and his indecision about who he was, literally helped the fall of the great destiny he was a part of.
Merlin’s decisions, whatever he wanted them to happen or not, helped Arthur die.
Merlin’s real enemy was himself.
