25 books for 2025
Thanks for the tag @agardenandlibrary ☺️
Honestly, I just want my physical TBR to go down, but there are some books I really want to read before the others. Although I didn't really put them in any kind of order here
Le Paris des merveilles #2, Pierre Pevel (and #3 I guess)
Blackwater, Michael McDowell (the whole series, really)
A dowry of blood, S. T. Gibson
All these sunken souls, anthology (mostly for Joel Rochester aka fictionalfates)
Nettle and bone, T. Kingfisher
These violent delights, Chloe Gong (from my advent calendar)
The dark days club, Alison Goodman (also from my advent calendar)
The ballad of songbirds and snakes, Suzanne Collins
Camp damascus, Chuck Tingle
The locked tomb #1, Tamsyn Muir
Reread The ruin of kings #1, Jenn Lyons (so I can do the whole series)
Reread Iron Widow (Xiran Jay Zhao) so I can read Heavenly tyrant
Dr. Greta Helsing #4, Vivian Shaw (coming out this year)
Le jour du caillou, Véro Cazot (story) & Anaïs Flogny (illustrations) (it's a graphic novel)
The jasmine throne, Tasha Suri (and then read the whole trilogy if I like it)
Before the coffee gets cold, Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Pageboy, Elliot Page
Coraline, Neil Gaiman & illustrated by Aurélie Neyret
He who drowned the world, Shelley Parker-Chan (I need a refresh but I don't have the strength to reread book 1)
Any of the Jules Verne I own, honestly. At least one
Nous, Christelle Dabos
Any of the 2 Osemanverse books I still have to read, so either I was born for this or Radio silence (Alice Oseman)
The priory of the orange tree, Samantha Shannon (one day I'll finally read it)
Ariadne, Jennifer Saint
The sunbearer trials, Aiden Thomas
Tagging some people but feel free to participate if you want!

🐈‍⬛ 🌻 😇 👥️ 🎶 for the ask game <3
Thank you so much for the asks! <3 :D
🐈‍⬛ animal
My favourite animal is a cheetah! I'm just so impressed by their speed and how they run. If I had a mutant power, I'd want it to be super speed. So I want them to teach me there ways!
😇 blorbo
Right now, my The Wilds hyperfixation is so strong I can think of practically nothing else (oopsie). But yes! I love all the Wilds girls but Toni Shalifoe is my favourite <3. Honestly, she might have taken the crown of favourite character of all time at this point. Just gaaah. Such a softie underneath all that understandable anger. Cares so much for those she loves. I love her and all the layers of her character.
Tumblr media
Before I watched the Wilds I got really into Legacies again (by finally watching s3 and s4). Absolutely obsessed with Lizzie Saltzman! Very relatable in some regards. Absolutely hilarious! Has so much pain and so many deep insecurities.
Tumblr media
Alice Jones from Once Upon A Time, (my beloved) <3! A silly who has suffered too much!!
Tumblr media
Chelsea Daniels from That's So Raven. She's so endearing to me. The silliest of sillies. Raven is a very close second, though.
Tumblr media
Natalie Goodman from Next To Normal. Relatable in an ansty way.
Tumblr media
Peter Simmonds from Bare: A Pop Opera. So relatable. A Cinnamon Roll <3.
Tumblr media
Kate Dalton from We Are The Tigers. Sarcasm queen.
Tumblr media
Vincent Lin From Adamandi. They may be a murderous blorbo. But they're my murderous blorbo.
Tumblr media
Circe from Epic: The Musical. She's just so cool.
Tumblr media
Draculaura from Monster High. Again, so cool and I love how much she loves her friends.
Tumblr media
Chloe Sullivan from Smallville. Big influence on me growing up. Though I probably shouldn't have been watching Smallville at 9. She just cared so much about those she loved.
Tumblr media
Simon Tudor from Jeopardy. His character development is everything <3.
Tumblr media
Cloe From Bratz. The biggest drama queen ever and I love her for it.
Tumblr media
Kurt Wagner from X-Men Evolution (and just x-men in general). He's such a silly guy.
Tumblr media
Shalimar Fox from Mutant X. The most badass, protective queen to ever.
Tumblr media
And that's all I can think of, but they're in no particular order. Except Toni. Toni gets the number 1 blorbo badge.
🌻 flower
I don't know much about flowers but I really like the look of Plumeria.
👥️ otp
So many! I shall limit myself to one per show.
Shoni!! (from The Wilds). I think they have made it to number 1 otp status!
Tumblr media
Snowing from Once Upon A Time. But also shout out to Curious Archer!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mizzie from Legacies! Still can't believe they got to be endgame!! I thought it was just gonna be hopes and dreams but the way I screamed my head off!! I love an unrequited love storyline but I love it even more when it then becomes requited. He thought the world of her and then she realised she felt the same about him too and it was beautiful and I cried (and screamed).
Tumblr media
Natalie x Henry from Next To Normal. He's just so supportive of her and would do anything to make sure she's okay and that makes me want to cry into my cereal.
Tumblr media
Peter x Jason from Bare: A Pop Opera. Everything hurts. But their chemistry was of the charts and they were so in love and I am in pain.
Tumblr media
Cheer Wives from We Are The Tigers. They were sooooo bad for each other but needed each other? It was a mess but I was so very there for it.
Tumblr media
Quincent from Adamandi. I am once again in so much pain. I can't get over how beautiful the lyrics they sang were when referencing each other.
Tumblr media
Freffy from Skins. The way he cared for Effy D,:. He would haved moved mountains just to make her smile. My heart will forever be broken over what happened to Freddie. He deserved so much better.
Tumblr media
Dracudeen. Just the whole of 'This is Not How Or Story Goes.' There was no hetrosexual explanation for that and Clawdeen nearly died to save her!
Tumblr media
Chlark from Smallville. Next to Simon x Chrissie, they were one of my first otps. No one did friendship like them. But I always wanted it to be more. That whole unrequited thing that was never really given a chance to become requited.
Tumblr media
Edited to add: Chlavis! I now one cannot have 2 otps that include the same character but I always go back and forth between which I like best. Chlavis' story was so intense and traumatic but at least it ended up being requited this time around! Extremely requited!
Tumblr media
Simon x Chrissie. Tfw the two most terrible people you'd never wanted to be stranded in the wilderness with have the most beautiful, unrushed character development and learn to care for people other than themselves as they slowly fall in love, when there was merely the shallowest one-sided crush you ever did see there before. The way they became heroes <3. And the way Simon just didn't know how to be without Chrissie but persisted in trying to save her when chances were beyond slim. I miss them so much and need to rewatch <3.
Tumblr media
Harlan x Cyrus. They had so much chemistry and genuinely had a connection and now we'll never know what happened to them. I wish we got to know them better. Darn you Amazon!
Tumblr media
Cloe x Jade from Bratz. It was more of a case of all the unwritten fanfiction I had in my head for them as an 11 year old. But I only let it get as gay as Monster High 2 at the time, which is actually very incredibly gay, so I don't know who my brain was trying to fool.
Lance x Kitty from X-Men Evolution. They had a really interesting connection and were drawn to each other.
Tumblr media
🎶 musical artist
I mostly listen to musical theatre songs but my favourite band has always been S Club 7. I'm not sure I have an overall favourite solo artist. Maybe James Morrison!
Thank you again for the asks! They were such a blast to answer!

March Monthly Recap:
March was complicated because I was traveling for work for a week and I had extremely slim access to the Internet or any of my stuff, so I mostly just read books I'd downloaded on my phone in preparation for the travel when I wasn't working. Which is part of the reason why I read 26 books, because I read 12 books while I was gone.
Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee: 3.5/5
A Power Unbound by Freya Marske: 4.5/5
Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese: 4.5/5
Due or Die by Jenn McKinlay: 3.5/5
The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard: 3/5
Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells: 5/5, audio re-read
The Bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamnia: 4.5/5
Daniel Cabot Puts Down Roots by Cat Sebastian: 4.25/5
Prime Deceptions by Valerie Valdes: 3/5
Proper English by K. J. Charles: 4.25/5
Sweethand by N. G. Peltier: 4.25/5
An Unnatural Vice by K. J. Charles: 4.5/5
Round Midnight by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner: 2.75/5
Book, Line, and Sinker by Jenn McKinlay: 3.75/5
Only Good Enemies by Jennifer Estep: 3.75/5
The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian: 4/5
Year of the Griffin by Diana Wynne Jones: 4.25/5
Hooked by Elizabeth Hunter: 4.25/5
The Dark Days Pact by Alison Goodman: 4/5
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder: 4/5, re-read
Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder: 4/5, re-read
Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder: 4/5, re-read
Exit Strategy by Martha Wells: 5/5, audio re-read
Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire: 4.5/5
One Salt Sea by Seanan McGuire: 4.5/5
Ashes of Honor by Seanan McGuire: 4.5/5
Goal progress below the cut:
Complete series: balanced (finished 3 more than started)
Catch up on backlists: 21 books (+2)
Read FIYAH/Nebula/Hugo finalists & awards: 1 book (+0)
Read down TBR: (hard to tell what it was at the beginning of the year, but in August it was 1332) at end of Mar 1445 (not the right direction...)

The brain is a physical organ.
I found an article about inappropriate things professionals in healthcare settings have been heard saying, and a lot of it is pretty bad. But it was nice to see a doctor in a medical publication saying what I’ve been saying for years: The brain is a physical organ.
MedPage Today - The Worst Thing I've Heard a Doctor Say — Awkward, offensive, cringe-inducing things colleagues have said by Mikhail Varshavski, DO October 17, 2024 My name is Jake Goodman and I'm in my last year of psychiatry residency. The worst thing I have ever heard a doctor say about a patient was, "It's all in his head. It's not real." In our head is a really complex thing called a brain. It's an organ just like any other organ in your body and it can get sick, just like with your other organs. If your pancreas gets sick, you can get pancreatitis. If your lungs get sick, you can get emphysema. If your brain gets sick, you can get depression or anxiety, [post-traumatic stress disorder], psychosis, and insomnia. It's in our heads, but that doesn't make it not real. It's as real as any other medical condition.
I think often calling something psychosomatic is a cop-out by clinicians for stuff they don’t understand or whatever medical science hasn’t figured out already. Which is why it gets applied often to people with Long Covid and various post-infection conditions that are poorly understood, or even poorly studied so far. And it's why there's this weird carve out for mental health where it's not treated as healthcare, for example by having separate insurance coverage for “behavioral health” - a term that seems to indicate the purpose is controlling behavior rather than relieving suffering.
I go further and say that the assertion of “psychosomatic” or “all in the head” is actually based in superstition.
Political abuse of behavioral science and mental health. Chloe Humbert Apr 12, 2024 Anyone who tells you a health issue, mental illness or physical illness, is “purely psychological” is telling you they believe in superstition and metaphysics, they are not talking about medical science, because the brain is a physical organ, and there is no thought or behaviour divorced from the human body in scientific terms - only in supernatural or religious terms.

The text of the letter and names of the celebrities that signed it under the cut.
"October 23, 2023
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday’s release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan and by today’s release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered - women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group’s founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.
We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace. Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, in this moment, freedom for the hostages.
We urge everyone to not rest until all hostages are released. No hostage can be left behind. Whether American, Argentinian, Australian, Azerbaijani, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Kazakh, Mexican, Panamanian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Thai, Ukrainian, Uzbekistani or otherwise, we need to bring them home.

Potentially about to make a book purchase but I shall have to narrow it down to two in my cart and idk which ones to pick 😩
Barnes and Noble is having 50% hardcovers so I’m allowing myself to make purchases
If you’ve read any of these please lmk your thoughts!!! These are the ones I’m thinking of getting plus some details as to why it was selected:
the legacies by jessica goodman: i loved her other books and I love a good ya mystery
immortal longings by Chloe Gong: I haven’t read these violent delights yet but I love her book concepts and have heard such great things about her. Logically this one should go because I should read these violent delights first but it’s a barnes and noble exclusive with pretty end pages 😩
nothing more to tell by Karen m McManus: i have all of her books and would like to keep collecting them although i haven’t really enjoyed the last three of hers I read (aka the cousins, you’ll be the death of me, and one of us is back the worst of them all)
the last days of the midnight ramblers by Sarah Tomlinson: the description says it’s like daisy jones and the six but the one lone review on the barnes and noble website says it’s basically a mystery with some band members which I’m still down for!! This one might stay no matter what but I also think it might disappoint me.
Atalanta by Jennifer Saint: essential Greek mythology option. I haven’t read this author’s books but I’ve heard good things and I love a strong female character
the bad ones by Melissa Albert: this one just sounds good to me but also could disappoint me! The description makes it sound so good but I’m unsure. I still really want it though.
