If you were an amphibian, what would u be?

Ooohhh......... good question

My immediate thought was a Common Rain Frog because i love their cute little >:I angry faces. But I also wouldn't want people to think I'm angry all the time!!

Then I thought maybe an Axolotl, because they're a beloved amphibian, right? And wild type colors because honestly the leucistic ones get enough love, we need to give love to the speckled wild form.

But I think I'll have to go with poison dart frogs! They're small, cute, colorful, and if someone touches me without my permission they get poisoned :'D

Gotta go with the greater one-horn rhino/Indian rhino (it's even called Rhinoceros unicornis) I like their ear shape, and I like when a mammal is semi-aquatic.

i was wondering, do you know of any good references that list out cryptids that settler Americans invented vs. Native American spirits that were appropriated/stolen/delegitimize? or are you able to name some in particular? im really interested in learning more about which ones are which. if you don't know of any, thats totally fine of course

No, not that I know of. As far as I know, theres no comprehensive list of all these various "cryptids" that have origins in Native spirits vs ones that don't, & that's likely because as I've said, most people don't even acknowledge their origins in Native American mythology in the first place, nevermind admitting the ones that were & weren't appropriated.

As far as i know, the Fresno nightwalkers, mothman, & jersey devil don't have any origins in Native American mythology. Buy as my mutual said, even the settler invented ones usually have some kind of inclusion of alleged Native "folklore" as part of the settler-invented cryptid to try give it (& their colonialism) more legitimacy, and mothman is a perfect example of this where one version claims it was "summoned" by Blackfoot people (yet no such spirit or being exists in Blackfoot culture). Maybe there is some kind of a resource like that, but I have yet to happen upon it.

hoping that you and your family stay safe during the storm!! :( im so sorry Florida...

My instant Floridian Reaction is to be like "We'll be alright! We're 'used' to hurricanes!"

But I'll be honest, this one's making me nervous. I haven't been in the direct path of one in a while. Just like Helene, it strengthened so quickly, and although it's projected to weaken before it makes landfall, it still makes landfall as a strong storm. Whether the eye goes just North of us or just South of us could still change. The Northern side of a hurricane is always more dangerous.

I'm on the East coast so it'll weaken a bit more even before it gets to me, but obviously that's no consolation to those who will get hit before me.

Dad has a doctor's appointment on Wednesday, and he called and they said it's not cancelled??? So. Unless that changes, I'll be driving in that, I guess ljshjhdfjhg

Anyway, thank you for the well wishes!!! We've done what we can, and now it's just the waiting and anticipation we have to deal with.

I hope those West of me are prepared and stay as safe as possible ❤️ And I'll do the same!

Last show: Rise of the TMNT (still on season 1... I heard we got a movie the other day so I'm looking forward to that when I finally catch up)

Currently watching: aside from the above, been meaning to keep watching Demon Slayer, and also I am always spending so so much time just watching whatever the fuck youtube recommends me. recently that has included a lot of Valorant Yoru montages from Rob, cuz he has fantastic music choices for them and plays a cool character

Currently reading: uhhh nothing actively aside from passive webcomic consumption (see my absolute fav webcomic White Noise). But it would be remiss of me not to mention the novel Growing Pains, which has been living in my head rent free since I read it last week, by tumblr user sleep-dies (who I'm not going to tag because I feel like I'm weirding it out with how much I've been thinking about that damn book).

Current obsession: I've been playing a lot more Valorant recently with friends because I am once again experiencing an obsession with Neon (points at my pfp). Also I've been thinking a lot about music stuff (making playlists, dabbling with a little MIDI composition or at least intending to, also just singing a lot because I've been in a great mood) and finally trying to make some OCs (which I somehow have barely done in 22 years).
