Yello! I thought I’d post a fanfic I wrote for the R&M fandom a while ago, so if you like darkness and angst and tension, there you go! It's based on the "I do childproofing stuff while you're asleep." line :)
Ch.1
Morty pushes the black smoke out between parted lips as his stomach muscles contract. He is on his feet with barely any effort at all, though sways as he raises his head to his full height. As the train of black smoke from his lungs dissolves into the oxygen-poor atmosphere, he glances over to Rick. He sits with his back to Morty, on top of a jagged rock nearby, knees drawn up to his chest. He was perched much like a crow.
Even across the distance that had been so deliberately put there, Morty sees the last of the smoke’s fingers reaching out, wanting to take something, shortly before dissolving by Rick’s blue tips.
The submucosal chip that is bulking in the back of Morty’s throat must not be working right, again, because Rick keeps blurring in tune with the beat of his heart while his fingers and toes keep tingling. There isn’t enough oxygen here for a human.
Originally, the piece of tech was a part of Rick’s childproofing-initiative, though no other device in that bracket — in Morty’s body — had been as prone to faults as this bitch and a half.
He remembered how he woke up in his bed on a school morning and felt like he’d had his tonsils taken out all over again. His throat had burned and the lingering taste of blood had soaked into his tongue and teeth. Morty remembered running straight to the garage, one hand clawing at his neck as his naked feet made slapping noises on the cold kitchen tile. Rick would help.
The man barely turned around, drunk and no time to deal with your pussy ass. It was shortly after 7 AM, less than an hour before school.
Morty’s mouth pulls into a disgusted grimace for a moment, showing his top teeth, as he lets out an unamused huff of air. His eyes briefly flicker upwards in a short version of an eye roll that is too tedious to even complete, as he pulled a strong drag of black smoke into his lungs. The tingling in his extremities intensifies, though that isn’t the drugs. It’s never the drugs.
His throat was scarred from the countless nightly operations. Taking it out, putting it back in. Taking it out, putting it back in. The pocket created subdermally had been inflamed, full of puss, I have to clean it! Morty would recognize the pain of the operation in the morning though had stopped asking about it a long time ago. It wasn’t like he had much to do with it.
Rick gets up suddenly, unfolding his body with the odd knack and pull. He stands there for a moment before he turns around to face the ship in the distance.
Morty can tell from his slumped shoulders and the drool on his shirt that he is ready to leave.
“Be careful with the — with the red…stuff.”
Morty doesn’t need to glance down in between the rocks. He knew.
“This-this stuff will kill you if you touch it Morty! Worse — it would be worse than falling in a pool of lava. Way worse!”
Morty took a deep breath. Was that really what would happen? Only god knows, Rick rarely does.
Still, Morty executes caution as he places his scuffed white sneakers from stone to stone, dancing in a macabre rhythm toward the waiting ship, willing his vision to just stop blurring.
Eventually, after one last pull, he flicks away what is left of the black cigarette and stands before Rick. He is one of the very few people who are still taller than Morty, though not by much.
Rick doesn’t look at him, doesn’t really look at anything and Morty let’s him. He only looks at the sizable bloodstain on his grandfather’s coat for a moment before he enters the car.
Sweet oxygen.
As Morty relaxes into the worn synthetic fibers of the passenger seat, Rick abruptly turns from where he was frozen in front of the car and gets in. He gets them home in no time.

Home Electrical Safety for Children: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
Electricity is a fundamental part of our daily lives, powering Our homes, appliances, and devices. While it offers immense convenience, it can also pose serious risks, especially to children who are naturally curious and may not fully understand the dangers.
This blog post will provide a comprehensive guide to home electrical safety for children. We will discuss the most common electrical hazards, how to prevent them, and what to do in the event of an electrical accident.
Understanding Electrical Hazards
Common Electrical Hazards at Home
Electrical Outlets: Electrical outlets are one of the most accessible sources of danger for children. To protect your little ones, invest in outlet covers or tamper-resistant outlets to prevent curious fingers from coming into contact with live electrical connections.
Appliances and Cords: Ensure that appliances and their cords are in good condition. Frayed or damaged cords can lead to electrical shock or fires. Keep appliances out of reach of children when they are in use.
Power Strips and Extension Cords: Overloading power strips and extension cords can lead to overheating and fires. Teach older children about the importance of not overloading these devices, and use surge protectors to add an extra layer of safety.
Electrical Appliances in Bathrooms: Bathrooms have a higher risk of electrical accidents due to the presence of water. Keep electrical devices away from the sink or bathtub and install Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) to prevent electrical shocks.
Preventing Electrical Accidents
Childproofing Electrical Outlets
Using outlet covers or tamper-resistant outlets is a simple yet effective way to childproof electrical outlets. These measures prevent young children from inserting objects into outlets and risking electrocution.
Proper Use of Extension Cords and Power Strips
Extension cords and power strips are incredibly useful but can be dangerous when misused. Avoid overloading them and make sure they are in good condition. Teach your children not to play with cords.
Appliance Safety
Choose appliances with child-safety features whenever possible. Additionally, supervise children when they are using electrical appliances, especially in the kitchen.
Water and Electricity
Bathrooms and outdoor areas near pools and playsets are potential danger zones for electrical accidents. Ensure that outlets and appliances in these areas are up to code and install Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) to protect against electric shock.
Teaching Electrical Safety to Children
Age-Appropriate Education
Tailor your approach to your child's age. For preschoolers, focus on the basics of electrical safety, such as not touching outlets. As they grow, teach them more advanced concepts.
Interactive Learning Activities
Engaging your children with games, simulations, and hands-on activities can make learning about electrical safety fun and memorable.
Setting a Good Example
Children learn by example, so practicing safe habits around electricity is essential. Emphasize the importance of safety precautions like turning off appliances and lights when not in use.
Signs of Electrical Problems
Recognizing warning signs of electrical issues is crucial for safety:
Flickering Lights: If lights frequently flicker or dim, it may indicate a wiring problem.
Burning Smell: A burning smell near outlets or appliances can be a sign of overheating or electrical faults.
Sparks or Electrical Arcing: Sparks or electrical arcing should never occur. If you witness them, take immediate action.
Emergency Preparedness
Creating an Emergency Plan
Have a clear plan for what to do in case of an electrical emergency or power outage. Include the location of your circuit breaker or fuse box in your plan.
First Aid for Electrical Injuries
In case of electrical injuries, knowing basic first aid can be life-saving. Always call 911 first and avoid touching the injured person until it's safe to do so.
Importance of Smoke Alarms and Fire Safety
Smoke alarms play a crucial role in early fire detection. Regularly test and maintain smoke alarms to keep your family safe.
In conclusion, ensuring electrical safety in your home is paramount, especially when you have children. By following the guidelines outlined above, you can create a safe environment where children can thrive without unnecessary risks. If you are concerned about the electrical safety of your home, please contact a qualified electrician to schedule an electrical safety inspection.
