Trinity of unsatisfying character arcs for cool female characters

Lin: Forced to forgive mother and sister that treated her like trash even though neither of the two seemed to show an inch of regret for what they did, develops no meaningful connection with any other character in the entire show, has to constantly help the man who dumped her for another woman and be mocked for being grumpy at how much her life sucks

Rogue: Nearly got together with an old creep that developed a crush on a woman young enough to be his daughter and who tried to attack her family several times in the past, later takes side with the man from before as he attempts to kill billions around the world, has no real meaningful victories despite being one of the strongest members of the team and constantly needs to be either saved or stopped from fighting

Vi: kept getting dunked on, beat up, badmouthed, and having her pain barely addressed in favor of making her seem like a broken, incompetent, and lost person that needs to give up on trying to help the people she loves (basically give up her agency) and focus on devoting herself to some cop that tried to gas up her old home

I honestly can't think of another set of animated female characters that got botched this hard by their writers... outside of anime that is.

(If you like these characters and you like the way their stories got resolved, more power to you. This is just me venting my frustrations about how things didn't go the way I wanted for characters I had a lot of expectations on)

Adding to this in more of a vent-ish way:

Parents aswell as authority figures seemed to genuinely believe all teenagers hate everything and can't NOT do that??

(parent part is more of a vent tbh)

Parents expect teenagers to hate them, even when they don't they take any sign of just general moody-ness from an otherwise pretty ok kid and push it to the extreme to fit some image of what we SHOULD act like in there head.

(No birth giver just because I didn't look at you when I said thank you doesn't mean I hate you and want you to die. Calm down please.)

At this point it feels like the support groups for teenagers ALSO push the "teens hate everything" thing?? YOU WORK WITH US!? how do you fuck it up?? Your job is to talk with us how do you NOT know what we're like?? It would be easier if I just helped myself and the rest of the kids YOU failed. Waste of money tbh.

Unpopular opinion but the reason being a teenager sucks is less to do with hormones and social cliques and more to do with the fact adults fucking hate teenagers. The fact that adults expect teenagers to be able to take on adult responsibilities yet don't deserve rights of an adult. They don't see teenagers as human beings and they aren't prepared to see kids with their own formed identities and humanity. Teenagers are so sexualized and seen as needing to take on more and more adult responsibilities. Yet when they want rights and humanity they are denied. The years your brain spends wanting nothing more than to form an identity are being taken away from you. Teenagers are essentially being kicked out of social spaces unless they have an extra 40 dollars lying around anytime they want to go out. Teenagers being kicked out of the mall just for existing or groomed into the school to prison pipeline. And now creating legislation to keep them off the Internet. Our society hates teenagers. And does everything we can to hurt them. The fact that anyone makes it out of their teenage years without trauma is a fucking miracle frankly.

I fucking HATE having siblings man. FUCK. I know, I know, it's literally a kid and I shouldn't be THIS Bloody worked up about it. Honestly I do love them, and if they were dying or something I'd 100% give my life to save them, but if I could choose them too just- not exist ever? I hate to say it but it kinda seems nice. I like how they distract our mum from me when she's mad but like- there kinda the reason she's mad? This is weird to post because I know no one's reading them. Anyway I haven't got anything else on the topic to complain about.

Is anyone else a LITTLE disappointed that Sonic is going to be the Flash in the upcoming Sonic x DC crossover? Like I know it makes sense because Sonic go fast and Flash go fast but like… does anyone gaf about the Flash? Not much of a Dc fan but the Flash’s design is ugly imo I hate his color scheme and like who cares about the Flash.

saikis powers are a vital part of him so it makes sense that people who dont know about them cant truly understand his whole self, but its also very silly to me when people act like its the ONLY important part of him... people act like his friends that arent in the know are completely blind to who saiki is, but i feel like that kinda means you missed some major points... he cant keep his powers a secret forever and it DOES matter, but he can still be loved and KNOWN without knowing about them... hes still human, he still has a personality, he still has regular likes and dislikes, etcetc

his friends perspectives on him may have been wrong at first, but they CHANGED... they know him and love him, and theyll KEEP loving him the SAME once they know of his powers...

​some people cough cough cough in this fandom like to reduce saiki to JUST his powers and its so obvious that you just. missed everything. you didnt absorb anything from the show, you just saw it and went "ha, everyone thinks hes just a guy when hes actually super cool and powerful" no no no, he IS cool and powerful but look a little closer and at his core he is still LITERALLY JUST A GUY 😭😭😭

Hot take but the percy Jackson show does not “spell everything out” you are just an adult and have a greater understanding of the concepts being presented. Not to mention that if you read all the books multiple times you are picking up on the foreshadowing. Newer and younger fans are not.

Also hate to break it to you but I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Percy Jackson is a children’s book and the show is a children’s show. They are not going to “grow it up” and make it more adult for you.

In fact it actually presents a lot of complex topics, unhealthy family dynamics, Percy and Annabeth’s conversation about unconditional love, victim blaming and punishing, trust and relationship building, grief and loss, self-sacrifice etc.

Older fans, we are adults and I’m sorry but it’s not about you anymore you grew up but the story did not. And there are young people experiencing this story for the first time. And some things do need to be expressly told to them.

(Also I think people forget that the books actually outwardly explain and “spell out” a lot especially in the first book)

I went down a Maxley rabbit hole until 2 am last night

Why are these two like actually adorable??? Like I rewatched the movie last night and the tension is definitely there I’m just surprised I didn’t realize before. Bradley being disappointed when Max said the bet was off, like, Bradley do you have something you want to share with the class.

In the span of around 4 hours I watched an extremely goofy movie, got 50+ saves on TikTok (I’m barely ever even on TikTok) watched many antimatics, and scrolled through the tag on tumblr for at least an hour on its own.

I don’t know how to conclude this but Maxley is definitely something I did not expect from a movie from the 2000’s (I have the dvd in my room I loved this movie growing up)
