not to brag on my own post but 364.350 words/ 120 chapters for my most recent fic I did finish this year, with the interlude going strong with 20.901 words/ 6 chapters (published by now)... tell me more about addictional writing for TPN 🤣😅

Am I the only one who is kinda (and with kinda I mean very) bothered when people claim "the Promised Neverland-fandom is dead" like ??? Yeah we're not massive anymore. Yeah S2 of the anime fucked up a lot of potencial. But there are still a lot of fans around here on Tumblr, new artwork everyday, people who come back after some years, discussions and stuff. It really doesn't help to talk down things you like and not interact with others if you want to see it flourish.

Chapter 179 Observations on the Boys

This is just something that’s been on the back of my mind for the past few days. I know @officersnickers​ and @chidoroki​ have already done posts about this matter in greater detail, and I feel like the next chapter might mess some of this up, but I also need to get this out of my system before it comes:

When everyone realizes Emma isn’t with them in New York, Ray is distraught because he was already on edge with there being “no reward,“ but he’s clearly blaming himself for not stopping this matter. And as the one who’s pretty much been through this journey with Emma for the past 2 years, having seen her grow as a leader and the trust that they developed with each other, this cuts really deep with him.

Norman is just as distressed as Ray, but how it shows with him is different. He doesn’t just blame himself, he also blames Emma, implying she didn’t practice what she preached with what she told him when she tried to stop his genocide plan.

Another thing with Norman is that all his thoughts of Emma are in reference to events further into the past. As mentioned above, we got the panel where she tried to stop him with his plans, which was around at least a few days/a week ago at least as of the current chapter, but the other flashbacks?

They’re all from when they were 5 years old.

This isn’t the only instance of this happening in the story. Back in Chapter 152, when he’s starting to realize the gravity of killing all the demon nobility, what shows up in his mind first when he comes to that point?

That’s right, it’s 5 year old Emma.

Now, one could argue that since being shipped to Lambda and just being recently reunited with Emma, it’s understandable that Norman would only think of the times they shared back in Grace Field, and Ray would obviously think more about 13 year old Emma. However, it’s weird that we don’t even see any flashbacks of 11 year old Emma from Norman in both instances. And the next counterpoint lies with the last boy for this post, Phil.

Phil, like Norman, was separated from Emma since the escape from Grace Field for a significant amount of time before she came back. He has just as much justification to look up to Emma from the past like Norman (even if what he would be mostly likely thinking is 11 year old Emma) because of that. However...

When we see Phil’s thoughts of Emma, it’s almost the same as Ray’s. It’s just as focused on her “present“ 13 year old version, and even notes her physical presence (holding her hand) before the cattle kids were transferred.

To summarize this post: Norman’s views on Emma are somehow more past-focused, while Ray’s and Phil’s take note of the current, “present-time” Emma. I don’t what this could possibly mean either, because I’m trying to figure it out myself.

I agree with Aly's takes almost entirely, but truth to be told I personally don't think Ray would be able to kill a person. I know he has stated he's willing to in multiple occasions, but I don't think that, when actually facing the possibility to do so, he would pull it off. And that's partially me following my guts but? I think that Ray is more emphatic than what he lets transpire. He suffered dramatically for the loss of his siblings during his childhood at Grace Field. Now, I realize he believes he's the most fitted to take the burden of taking another human's life, a burden that no one else from his family deserves to carry; quoting my tags from chidoroki's post:

Ray basically considers himself guilty for the death of his shipped siblings back at GF, so he'd probably think that his hands can't get any dirtier [with blood] than that.

Which is very sad lol. But that being said, I think that Ray values life too much to be able to take someone else's. I think even though he convinced himself that, if there's no other way, he will do it for his family, when actually coming to it something will block it from actually pulling the trigger. That's also how I personally interpret this scene:

It's likely that his surprise was lead by seeing the demon behind Andrew; but I like to think that, when he came to the point of shooting, he actually hesitated, and wasn't able to. No matter how horrible and disgusting Andrew was, he just couldn't have himself take someone else's life, even if that's what the rational part of him would have wanted to do.

I'm very happy that, by the end of the series, as far as we're concerned no child killed any human. I'm glad the author chose not to give them this burden, because it's under many aspects a more tragic destiny than death: it would have possibly precluded the children to reach the freedom of the human world, in a way that they would have forever been tormented by the memories of the life they've taken, thus never being really free to leave the demon world behind.

• I’m slightly puzzled as to why VIZ decided to rearrange the placement of the interviews before the secret gallery Shirai mentions in the William Minerva note at the end

I’m still unsure of what the exact timeline is for Isabella becoming the Mom of Plant #3, but I like to think the trio were the first children she raised entirely by herself, so I put it at roughly six to seven weeks before Ray was dropped off. (Although I guess she laid off on naming him at least until Norman showed up...? Shirai mentions in the Mystic Code Book that Grandma names the children, so I guess it’s just another 🤷 “you’re putting way too much thought into arbitrary things” moment for me.)

Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest EP1

I know it’s nothing compared to the life long fans who have been with this series since the very start, but even after I binged watched it all in 2020, getting to see new episodes feels kinda surreal to me.

I may have watched everything in dub but even the original JP actors seem familiar and nostalgic.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read through this arc so I don’t remember the name of this new girl who we absolutely need to be wary of, but the white curls unmistakably remind me of Bronya.

Ahh ha, quite the entrance from Laxus.

So we’re obviously gonna finish Mercphobia’s arc but I dunno about the next dragon with the wood one. I’d like to assume we would since we see a bit of Touka and that’s when all that white wizard stuff takes places but who knows. Not even sure how many eps we’re getting.

All that aside, I did enjoy the song itself.

Not even seven full minutes in and Gray already lost his shirt. It’s hilarious as he hasn’t even been on screen for a good thirty seconds yet.

And in true Fairy Tail fashion, we get our little fanservice moment with this old geezer teleporting to Lucy’s.. um, assets, and Natsu following suit.

“Then let us go do a job! The quest is to protect Gray-sama with our lives! The client is Juvia! And Juvia will accept the quest!” I missed her and her silly antics so much.

Touka bringing up all these ladies Gray has some sort of bond with, Cana included, just to get on Juvia’s nerves and Cana fires back with “my only boyfriend is this barrel” instantly. Love her.

Yesss be suspicious about this girl, Gajeel! She listed off way too many names and some real strange ones like Briar for someone just coming to the guild.

I do like how the main idea of this entire quest is like, oh remember Acnologia? Yeah, now go defeat five other dragons just as powerful.

I do not remember the cute walking jellyfish creatures at all but I’m not surprised Natsu somehow managed to eat one despite everyone’s warnings.

They’ve already reached Ermina.. why do I feel like that happened so quick? I really should revisit the manga again.

Detective Gajeel and Lily let’s gooo!

I adore how Juvia doesn’t even question Gajeel and his idea, just seeing the two former Phantom Lord members join forces in some kinda way makes me happy.
