Best Pocket Friendly Mughlai Food Restaurants in Delhi
Tumblr media
Bengaluru loves food, be it a wholesome homecooked meal, a spicy snack from the street corner or scrumptious dishes at a fine dining restaurant. In fact, Bengaluru has restaurants catering to cuisines from across India and around the world. However, if you’d like to try the most authentic Mughlai food, taking a Bengaluru to Delhi flight will take you to a city that has mastered what once was cooked in the royal kitchens of Mughal Empire, and is a beautiful mix of Persian and Indian cuisine. The result are dishes like kofta, kabab, biryani, rogan josh and keema kaleji, which uses ingredients such as yogurt, saffron, dry fruits, along with traditional spices.
These sumptuous and complex dishes can still be found in the lanes of Delhi. So, if the next time you’re checking out Bengaluru to Delhi flights, include some of these pocket-friendly restaurants in your itinerary.
Al Jawahar
Located in the Moti Mahar Bazaar, Al Jawahar was opened in 1947 by Badruddin Qureshi. The restaurant was inaugurated by India’s first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, and hence the name. When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by large vessels and a tandoor. The most famous dish here is the mutton nihari. The eatery also serves amazing mutton korma, chicken Jahangiri, mutton stew, murgh musallam, chicken kalimirch, seekh kebabs, and shami kebabs. Al Jawahar opens at 7am and runs till midnight.
Price for Two People: approximately ₹500
Zaika
Located in the humble lanes of Daryaganj, Zaika is known for its rich and flavorful Mughal dishes. One of its standout dishes is the korma. At Zaika, the korma is prepared in the traditional way, without any tomatoes. Some of the other must-try dishes are mutton biryani, mutton korma, raan, and mutton burrah. The restaurant stays open from 1pm to 11pm.
Price for Two People: about ₹500
Nazeer Foods
Nazeer Foods has branches all over the city and is known for its non-vegetarian offerings. They even have a butcher shop where you can buy some prime cuts of meat. Some of their best dishes are chicken tandoori, Mughlai keema, mutton raan, and sheermal naan. They also have some of the best desserts in town. In the winters, they serve kali gajar ka halwa, which you would have a tough time finding outside Delhi.
Price for Two People: around ₹600
Khan Chacha
This is the place to be for spice lovers. Located in Khan Market, the place gained popularity for having the best rolls in Delhi. But it offers much more than that. The most popular dishes at Khan Chacha are nalli nihari, biryani, kormas, and kebabs.
Price for Two People: approximately ₹700
Karim’s
Taking a Bengaluru to Delhi flight and not visiting Karim’s would be unfair to foodies! Probably the most famous Mughlai restaurant in the city, it is slightly more expensive than the others on this list. But the food more than makes up for it. The original outlet near Jama Masjid was opened in 1913 and serves dishes like mutton korma, mutton nihari, shahjahani murgh, sikandhari raan, and reshmi seekh kabab.
Price for Two People: around ₹800
Try to book flight tickets from Bengaluru to Delhi between October and March, as the weather is amazing during these months. Traveling to the country’s capital during Ramazan is also a good idea if you wish to try the best of Mughlai food.
