Baby the choreography, the harsh lightning, the framing, the red and green of the ornaments and the clothes, EVERY SINGLE DETAILS of the scene screamed that the only couple there was Wen and Jim. The intimacy and care between them destroyed Alan. It was so blatant. Everybody on that set did a fantastic job and was visibly exhausted at the end of it. My notes said : DAMN.

currently feeling really emotional about jam, who knows she isn't a good mother, who hasn't even seen her son in 5 to 6 years, who, when trying to connect with him, ends up pushing him farther away. and then i think about the way she starts to learn to observe, and listen, and how that leads her to seeing the young man her son has become, and the way it stuns her, how proud she is, how unexpected these new feelings of love are for these new parts of him she never saw or looked for before

she sees a boy who has grown up not just away from her, but has also grown into himself. she watches him stare at the person he loves and sees the language he has learned to connect with him. she doesn't exclaim in horror or surprise when he talks about his plans to move to america, just absorbs it and her shock quietly.

and she knows she may not ever be the person li ming comes to first about anything, she knows that role belongs to her brother, but she can do small things to support her son and show him love anyway as the person he is, and as the mother she is. she can buy him those expensive shoes he was looking at, keep a photo of him in her wallet, take his orange from his hands, peel it and give it back, and she can go to jim and help him pay for li ming's travel and study expenses. it's a small start, but it's the start all of us deserve. to be seen and loved just for who we are...and to allow others to grow and leave us and live their lives as they choose

when you say he’s grieving through his work do you mean it literally? as in dealt with/dealing with something or just speculation?

No I mean very literally. I think Phi Aof deleted/changed some posts about his father’s death but he did write about it at some point. I remember that the MC “funeral episode” aired around the one year anniversary of his death and that some shots (down to the clothes) mirrored reality. Moonlight Chicken was heavy with grief (losing someone, losing one’s hearing/autonomy, losing your illusions) and parenthood in post-Covid Thailand. Last Twilight will be different of course, but I also think that all this crepuscular vibe is going to meet the grieving Moonlight somewhere in there you feel me fam ?
