The Brown Line

These three pictures were taken on the Brown Line in Chicago while headed down to the Loop. The first image was taken near Winchester and Leland. The second was snapped as we approached the Irving Park station stop. And the third image is at the Merchandise Mart stop—according to my Chicago contact, David Daruszka.

NEVER jump down onto the tracks to retrieve it yourself! • This was the case with a red hat that went missing on the L tracks south of the Loop today. Album Number Two Hundred Seventeen. “Chicago” (retroactively known as Chicago II) is the second studio album by #chicago #chicagoband . Like their debut album, ‘Chicago Transit Authority’, this was a double album. It was their first album under the name Chicago (the band's prior name, #chicagotransitauthority was changed due to a threatened lawsuit from the actual mass-transit operator bearing the same name) and the first to use the now ubiquitous cursive Chicago logo on the cover. Released in January 1970 on #columbiarecords , Chicago was commercially successful. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in April of the same year of its release, and certified platinum in 1991. Today was to be the Shamrock Run in Portland, OR. As a result of the coronavirus, the event was canceled. It was disappointing but completely understandable. I have been training to run the Half Marathon (13.1 miles) today. So, I decided to map my route through the streets of Salem, OR, and compete in my version. A few random thoughts that occurred during those long miles: 1. It was remarkable how normal a day it seemed around the town. I was away from all of the fear-mongering and hysteria on the internet for those two and a half hours. From the looks of it, it seemed that everyone was enjoying a regular Sunday around town. 2. I wanted to quit at mile 2. I was saying to myself, "Go ahead. No one will blame you. Just say that it was the coronavirus, and you were feeling a bit off." 3. I have been digging into a list of "The Best Debut Albums of All Time." Today, I listened to the debut album from The Chicago Transit Authority (or otherwise known as Chicago). The collection is big, bold, jazzy, proggy, and over the top. It reminded me of sunny summer days in the mid-70s at the Ohio State Fair. Loved it. I followed it up with the Fragile album from Yes. 4. I waved at @tinamhornsby when I passed Trader Joe's at mile 6.23. 5. I wanted to quit at mile 8. My feet were feeling a bit of fatigue. 6. Tell the Moon-dog, tell the March-hare. 7. The last mile was the toughest. 8. After the run, I expected my feet to look like Reese Witherspoon's in Wild when I pulled off my socks. (We watched the movie last night. It's not a recommendation - just a reference. But if you are interested - watch the first five minutes when she pulls off her hiking boots.) 9. I was greeted by a finishing line and happy "Pika" drawing when I arrived home. Overall, I was slower than I wanted to be but happy to finish it.
