Let Me Decide
Tumblr media
Hank Voight x Reader
You're a lot younger than Hank, hell you should've never looked his way considering you work at firehouse 51 and yet you couldn't resist the sergeant of the intelligence unit. When a bad day happens you take your back and forth with him into your own hands.
You hopped out of the ambulance, grabbing your med bag and looking over at Sylvie. You hated responding to a shooting because you never knew just what the hell you were walking into.  Especially when intelligence was involved.
The two of you met the patrolman that was covering the outside of the house “Well I hope no one is dying considering none of you seem to be in a god awful rush” you told him and saw Sylvie smirk slightly. He shook his head “No ma'am. Sergeant Voight just wanted one of his detectives checked out along with the perp before rolling out”
You rolled your eyes “Always a pleasure to act as his personal rolling clinic” “Well if it isn't my favorite Paramedic” You glanced up the steps to see Voight himself standing in the threshold of the house.
You hated how damn attracted you were to him. He was quite a bit older than you, his son Justin was just a couple years behind you in high school. He had a hell of a reputation in Chicago and around your station house. He did things his own way and sometimes, well  most of the time those ways were less than morally north.
But he also ran the most successful unit in the CPD. The men and women under him were your friends. He worked non-stop no matter the case and no matter the background of the victim. He may be a little more on the grey side of the moral scale but the results spoke for themselves. He went at every one the same. Brown eyes, that damn gravel filled voice that went straight through you and that fucking smirk that drove you bat shit every time you had to respond to a call he was at.
“Hello to you too Voight. I see you're fine so which of your detectives got hurt?” You asked, walking up to meet him. He held open the door, letting Sylvie in first then his eyes trailed over you “Ruzek rolled his ass up chasing the perp. I need to see if a trip to med is needed”
You shook your head “Ok then, show us to them”
Tumblr media
You were sitting at the bar in Mollys eyeing the most recent concoction Herrman had sat in front of you, Cruz, Jay and Adam. “Boys, I don't think this is a case of ladies first. Besides if either of you go down don't you want me still standing to render aid?” You asked, looking between them.
Adam shrugged and tipped the green liquid back, grimacing slightly but then he shrugged “Not that bad actually”
You watched him for a second before saying “Fuck it” and tipped back your own shot. You saw why he grimaced. It was very limey but for one of Herrmans mixes it was good. “Not bad” you nodded so Jay and Cruz followed after you.
Cruz motioned to Herrman for another round. Adam cut his eyes at Jay who shook his head. “Ok detectives. What was that about?” You asked, seeing Jay shoot Adam a glare before Adam turned to face you, leaning one arm on the bar “What's with you and Voight?”
“What do you mean?” You asked, looking between him and Jay. Cruz laughed “She's a little oblivious fellas” you spun around to face him and he threw his hands up “I think I just heard Kelly call me…from the other side of the bar”
“Coward” you called after him before leveling Jay with a look “Halstead” he punched Adam's arm before saying “You and him flirt…like a lot.”
“I do not flirt with Voight” you argued, feeling your face warm. Adam nodded slowly “Yeah, Sure ya don't. And he doesn't get pissy when we have to roll an ambo any time it's not your shift so that means he hasn't gotten to see you”
“What?” You laughed and Jay shrugged “Just an observation” “about what?” Kevin asked as him, Hailey and Kim joined the three of you. “Voight's thing for her”
Your mouth fell open at Adam's answer but then Kevin nodded “Oh yeah. It's hilarious when we work a scene with fifty one. Ain't never seen Voight get dog walked before then”
“Oh my god. I do not!” You gasped and Kim patted your back “Honey, ya kinda do”
You shook your head “For fucks sake. You six are like kids trying to get your dad a date” Hailey shrugged “Maybe he'd get in a better mood” and all of you busted out laughing.
Tumblr media
A week passed and you didn't give much more thought to their teasing. Hell Hank Voight struck you as the type of man that if he wanted something he'd go after it.
A call rang out summoning an ambulance to the north side. Sylvie slapped your foot where you’d had it propped up on the chair in front of you, currently beating Kelly at a game of poker “C’mon partner. We gotta go” you tossed your cards down and pointed at Kelly “I’ll get you later Severide”
The two of you headed out to the bays and climbed into the rig with you driving. She shot you a smile as you pulled out onto the road. At least it was a nice day, winter was finally breaking and the roads weren’t iced over.
“I’ll buy lunch since you bought breakfast” she offered and you grinned “You just want an excuse to hide from Matt” she raised an eyebrow “Says the lady who literally hid behind Chief the last time we worked a scene with PD so you wouldn’t have to talk to Voight!”
You opened your mouth to argue but knew that would only push her point further. When you clamped your mouth closed she giggled, honest to god giggled. “I knew it! You have a thing for him! Hello daddy issues” your mouth fell open “Sylvie Brett!”
She shrugged “If it makes you happy and he treats you good” you shook your head “He doesn’t treat me anyway. Now no more teasing, we’re to the address”
___________
Hank was in his office when Adam walked to the open door and knocked on it “Hey, um boss” he cut his eyes up from the file in his hands “What is it Ruzek?”
“We got a call about a hostage situation. Three civilians and two medics from fifty one” he was on his feet and grabbing his jacket before Adam could finish talking. “Gear up, now!”
__________
Your eyes were glued to the gun in the man’s hand. Unconsciously you moved one hand to push Sylvie behind you. You couldn’t get your partner out of this situation but you’d be damned before you stood there and didn’t try to protect her.
“What’s the end game here? I mean you have to know SWAT is gonna come through that door” you motioned to the door at the far end of the store. There were a total of five hostages including yourself and Sylvie.  He nodded “Oh, I know” he took a step towards you, close enough the gun brushed against your chest “But luckily for me I got a pretty little paramedic with a big mouth who wants to protect everyone else in here”
You glared at him, keeping one hand on Sylvie. You had to keep him calm until SWAT could respond. That meant staying calm yourself, despite the fear coursing through you. “Whatever you need me to do to get everyone out of here alive” you whispered, feeling your hands tremble.
The sounds of sirens hit your ears and he smirked at you “Lets see what happens next”
________
He’d had to order the shot. There was no other way to get you out of the situation. When they’d breached you were held against the man’s chest, the barrel of his gun pushed into your temple. Your eyes had widened slightly when you saw Hank but your shoulders had loosened just a bit.
“Listen, you let her go..you got a chance of walking out of here” he tried to offer a way out but when the son of a bitch had the nerve to look him in the eye and smirk before saying “What if I wanna walk out of here with her” he gave the signal to Jay.
You flinched when the blood splattered across your face but the moment you were free instead of running to Sylvie like he’d expected or to a member of his unit that he knew you were friends with, you ran straight to him. You wrapped both arms around his neck, your muscles fully relaxing once he pulled you to his chest “Thank you. Fuck, thank you. I was so damn scared until I saw it was you. I knew you’d get me out”
____________
You and Sylvie were on the couch in Hank’s office. She had one of Kevin’s spare jackets wrapped around her while Hank had taken the jacket off his back to put around you when a crime scene tech had been forced to take yours for evidence.
For the last couple hours you’d given your statements and both of you had fallen asleep when the adrenaline crashed down. The entire time no one dared to cross the threshold. Hank had told them in no uncertain terms to “Stay the hell out of my office and let them catch their breath”
You curled further into the jacket, the scent of Hank’s cologne comforting you despite everything that happened that day. You’d never been so fucking scared. Your job was insane enough but staring down a barrel of a gun? Having to offer yourself up to get her and innocent people to safety?
The moment you knew it was Hank..you knew you’d be ok. You knew he’d get you out. You knew he wouldn’t let anything happen to you. Why were you waiting on him to make a move? You knew he was single, knew he had a thing for you as well. Why hadn’t you asked him out?
A knock at the door drew your attention and you smiled when Hank walked in, followed by Stella. “Your ride’s here” he teased with a smile. You grinned “Oh thank god, I thought I may have to deal with your driving again” Sylvie shook her head with a small smile “We can go?”
“You’re free to go” he agreed so she walked over to Stella. You started to walk after her and made it halfway into the bullpen before you realized you were still wearing Hank’s jacket. “Let me give his jacket back” you told Stella who nodded “Take your time”
___________
You walked back to his office and tapped on the open door. He cut his eyes up and smiled when he saw you “Hey sweetheart, you forget something?” you motioned to the jacket “Well sergeant I was stealing this” he shook his head “Keep it. Looks better on you”
You felt your face warm “Hank Voight. Never would have pegged you for a flirt” he shrugged “Only when you’re around apparently” you rolled your lip between your teeth. After the day you had, you weren’t letting an opportunity go by “In that case, you have my number on my statement. Why don’t you use it and come pick me up Friday night?”
He raised an eyebrow “Excuse me?” you grinned “Come on Old man do I gotta spell it out” you stepped further into the office, leaning against the wall not far from his desk “I like you, you’re a pretty good man and damn good looking. I think you like me. So, do you want to go out friday night?”
He stared at you for a moment before shaking his head “You’re damn near young enough to be my kid” you couldn’t have stopped the smirk that slipped onto your face if you’d tried before you asked “Is that your way of telling me you want me to call you daddy? Because damn, at least wait until then”
He laughed “You’re something else you know that?” you nodded “I’ve been told. So, friday?” he smiled “Friday sweetheart”
__________
When you walked out of the office you heard Adam whisper to Hailey “I think we got her” you cut your eyes at him and smirked “I’ll see ya around Ruzek” he grinned “So does this mean I can call you when he’s mean to me?”
You shook your head “Ruz, let me go out on the date first before you want me to protect you. Damn!”

DESERVING ━━ Antonio Dawson x fem!reader
Tumblr media
author's note; this one has been in my drafts for a while and honestly i have mixed feelings about it. but oh well, i might as well just put it out lol enjoy <3
summary; antonio had only ever been casual with her, but called it quits a while ago. only to come back after a rough case, finally realising it wasn't so casual after all
━━ ☄. *. ⋆
Molly's wasn't as crowded that night. She sat at the bar, nursing a drink in her hand as she rested her head in her palm with her elbow on the bartop. After a long day of back-to-back surgeries at Med, all she needed was a drink to wind down.
For the past couple of months, that drink was with some company. Tonight, it went back to the usual routine.
She wasn't sure where any of it went wrong. She hardly even realized there was anything wrong, really. Maybe it just wasn't right.
She took a large swig of her drink at the thought. The only thing that kept her mind off him had been her patients. Now that she didn't have that, she zeroed back into him without wanting to.
He'd consumed her entirely in the short months they were together. She should've known better. Getting involved with a man recently divorced – what was she thinking?
It felt so good to just be wrapped up in someone after long, awful shifts. And it was a win-win situation. She wasn't the only one benefiting from it.
Refusing to sit at the bar any longer, she shot her drink down in one go and left some cash on the bar. Usually she'd be chatting with Hermann before she left. Not tonight.
She didn't want to drive after that. Maybe she'd only had about two glasses, but she didn't want to take any chances. So she walked. She'd take her car in the morning.
Her apartment was just down the block anyway. It hardly took her more than five minutes to get back there.
Fiddling through the keys in her hands, she turned down the hallway towards her door. Stopping short when she looked up, very nearly dropping her keys.
“Antonio?”
Her voice came out uncertain.
He turned instantly. His fist dropped, he was just about to knock on her door.
For a moment the man just stood there and looked at her. He put his hands back into the pockets of his coat, rocking on his heels slightly as he cleared his throat.
“Hey,” he greeted.
Hearing his voice again seemed to sober her up suddenly – if she was even that tipsy in the first place. The last time they'd spoken to each other was three weeks ago. The time he hit the brakes on what they had.
“Hi,” she nodded.
Antonio hesitated. He dropped his gaze for a second, before shrugging lightly.
“Look, I uh–”
He met her gaze. She hadn't moved an inch. They were facing each other in the hallway of the apartment.
“I just wanted to check on you,” he admitted gently. “It's been a… rough day.”
She nodded slowly. It had been a rough day, for sure.
Bomb threats all over important locations in the city. Police stations, schools, hospitals – Chicago Med was the very last. They may have mostly been a hoax, but Intelligence didn't take it lightly.
Antonio's team was all over it. The second one of those bombs was real, dropped off at the park just within half a mile radius from Chicago Med – they went head first to find the perp. He ran with his team to investigate it all, while she was busy rushing the victims through surgery.
“It was,” she agreed. “It was rough.”
The keys tapped along her palm lightly as she looked at him. Neither of them seemed to be able to tear their gazes away.
“And how are you?” she then asked softly.
Antonio only stared at her. He looked tired. Like he always did after long cases like this one. These bomb hoaxes had been going on for weeks. It was only today that something truly happened.
And while they haven't found the perp, he took a small step back and let his team play their part as well.
“I've been better,” he replied.
She let out a slow breath. Holding the key in one hand, she gestured to her door lightly.
“Wanna come in?” she offered.
She wasn't sure why she did that. If it was even a good idea after everything.
After all, it was him who said they should stop. That it wasn't the right time for either of them. That they should probably work out their own careers first.
Antonio took a beat. His lips parted to speak as he looked at her, then he glanced at her door.
“Is that okay?” he asked.
She only stepped past him in response, unlocking her door and stepping in. Holding the door open to the side, she gestured for him to enter.
The place was just like he remembered. Although, he doubted much would change in merely three weeks. They ended up standing on two different sides of her kitchen counter, a bottle of beer in each of their hands.
Antonio glanced around the place, his fingers lightly tapping on his beer bottle.
“You finally got the heater to work,” he commented.
She'd been having an issue with her heater forever, it felt like. But now as he stood there, he realized it was warmer here despite the cold outside.
She hummed, nodding as she took a sip of her beer.
“I got a new one,” she replied. “Nothing lasts forever, right?”
Their eyes met. Something about what she said made them both pause and think. She didn't mean to imply anything, but she noticed what she did a second too late. Her eyes dropped and she took another sip of her beer, no longer knowing what to do with herself.
Antonio was just as bad. But he did know how he felt, at least.
“We were good together,” he spoke softly, breaking the sudden silence.
She paused. His words were like a wound in salt.
He knew he shouldn't. He shouldn't be pushing after he was the one that had broken her. But he couldn't stop himself. Suddenly he was around the counter, beer bottle abandoned as his hand reached up to cup her cheek.
When she looked up at him it was with those same doe eyes he fell for. The ones that made his blood rush and heart pumping. The ones that felt like a breath of fresh air after being cooped up for so long.
“I messed up. And instead of fixing it, I made it worse,” he told her. “And I'm sorry. I don't say it as often as I should, but I'm telling you and I mean it. I'm sorry.”
The words hung heavy in the air for a moment as she simply stared up at him with her soft, tender eyes. There was a clear hurt still in them and it made his heart clench.
“I don't deserve you. I really don't. But God if you let me, I'm willing to put in the work. To be the man deserving of you. I just… I just need your word. And your time of day.”
When he continued, she didn't even notice the way her eyes watered. This was the most vulnerable this man had ever been with her. Her heart was thundering as she realised she never got over him. And she knows she never will.
She didn't say a word. She didn't give him an answer, not verbally. Instead, her hands reached up for his jacket to tug him down gently so their lips could meet.
And when she kissed him it was with everything she had. It wasn't lustful or hungry. It was pure love and desire. A yearning that never once faded.
When he kissed her back, she knew then. It was undeniable — she was his. And he was undoubtedly hers.

Jay Halstead- Work Husband Pt1
Tumblr media
I walk into the break room to grab myself a coffee. Jay, my partner is already in there making two drinks
"Good morning" I greet him
"Morning" he hands me a cup after he pours the hot water in
"Thanks" I give him a smile
"Your very welcome. Actually I erm wanted to speak to you"
"What's up?" I ask frowning but before Jay can talk to me Adam pops his head in to the break room letting us know that Voight wanted to speak to us. He asks me and Jay to talk to a source to find out some information about our perp.
Jay and I get in the car, me behind the steering wheel. At first it's quiet. Then jay breaks the silence
"I think it's time we can be honest with each other. Wouldn't you agree?" This makes me feel a little nervous, but I try to hide it
"Depends"
"Ok I'm just going to say it"
"Go on then"
"You driving all the time? I'm not down with that"
"Tough. I drive"
"I've been on the job longer" I see Jay now looking at me through my peripheral vision. I glance at him before looking back at the road
"Well I've been in this unit longer"
"Ok honestly? I feel like a house husband" I chuckle at this then put on a straight face and glance at Jay
"I'd say sorry..." I stop the car and take my belt off and now give Jay my full attention "but I was told not to lie. Now let's go" I open up my door and both Jay and I start to walk to the shop when a guy whistles at me
"Shake it baby" I raise a brow at him then shake my head
"Jay" I nod my head towards the shop
"Watch yourself" Jay warns
"Yes sir officer sir" the guy says back to
"Does that ever catch girls attention?"
"Jay it's fine. Leave it" I open up the door to the shop "hi Chicago PD we would like to ask you a few questions" I say showing my badge
"Sure"
"A pay-as-you-go phone was purchased from your store in the last 24 hours" Jay starts as I take out the phone number from my pocket
"We're looking for who bought it"
"Yeah, a Juan Garcia. Yesterday. Paid cash"
"Any other information you can provide us?" I ask
"No, we're not responsible for  background checks"
"True, but it is a fairly common name. You know, there's not a lot we can do with that" I give the store clerk a sweet smile
"You don't tell me how to do my job. I don't tell you how to do yours" the guy hands the number back to me as I continue to smile
"You're Glen Pearson, right? The owner of this place?"
"That's right"
"You know, it looks like there's a Glen Pearson with deceptive practice and fraud charge"
"Huh" I cross my arms looking at Jay
"Yeah for selling stolen merchandise
out of Gary, Indiana" Jay shows me a fake police report made to just scare the guy "That's a 25,000 dollar expeditable must-hold warrant"
"Hmm. What do you think Halstead? Height, weight match. Eye color, too"
"Yeah" he nods his head "hey I've got an idea. Why don't we throw some bracelets on him, we'll take him down to the station, run his prints, and then we can be sure" Jay gives me a little nudge
"I got a nanny cam up here. I can pull some footage. Get a picture of the guy who did it.
It's best I can do"
"Oh that's great" Jay and I both smile "oh and I'll have some gum"
We leave the store after getting a photo. I place a piece of gum in my mouth
"I knew that would work"
"Now we just gotta figure out who this idiot is" I pass the photo over to Jay as the same guy we passed earlier throws a bottle
"Why don't you bring that ass over to place sometime girl. I'll let you in"
"Hey" I say to Jay who looks pissed "it's fine. Let's go" Jay takes off his holster and badge, handing them over to me "ok. Yeah" I nod my head. Jay and the guy have a little tiff earning an eye roll from me "oh my hero" I give Jay his things back "and by the way I'm still driving" I run over to the drivers side of the car before driving us back to the precinct to talk over what we have found out.

I grew up in cook county and the illegals took all the good jobs for young kids. They’d work for pennies on the dollar and their kids would join the gangs and steal shit all over town.
Homan has threatened to arrest politicians if he is impeded - I doubt this will happen. I think all of this is empty talk, trying to get people to self deport. I don’t think anyone’s getting deported and the politicians are safe in their positions.
additionally, SCOTUS doesn’t have the sack to rule on federal vs states rights when it comes to immigration. They’re afraid of being assassinated by the leftists so we don’t get relevant rulings very often. Shit, it’s pretty easy to understand 2A and the recent court precedents, but millions of Americans are deprived of their rights daily.
but i will believe this when i see it happening. When I see the mayor and governor perp walked I will believe it. Until then, i think government is gonna government and nothing will happen. Chicago is a shithole and always will be.

You knew how Antonio was when he was working all badass and tough. A man that takes no crap from anyone. But when it comes to you, well that’s a completely different story. When it came to you, he turned into the most cuddly and caring man you had ever met. You worked and owned a cute little sandwich shop that doubled as a coffee shop and bakery. You two met when he had come into your shop and the rest was history. You could still remember that day like it was yesterday.
Antonio had come into your shop on a snowy and chilly Tuesday afternoon. You had been helping someone else at the time and looked up when someone had come in through the front door and smiled when you saw him. You finished helping the person in front of you and thanked them as they left then he was in front of you. He had a charming smiled on his face, one that made most girls swoon and knees buckle and sure he had some effect on you but you knew the type of man he was so you kept your guard up. “Hi can I help you?” You asked him giving him a dazzling smile of your own.
“Hi I was wondering if you could help me. I work for Intelligence for Chicago PD. We’ve been going around asking stores and people if they have seen this man.” He said and held up a picture and you studied it, smile dropping in concentration and eyebrows scrunching together. Right then and there Antonio fell in love with you.
“That is Clyde Core. He used to be a regular here until a few months ago.” You said looking into the handsome officer’s face.
“Do you know where he could be at now?” He asked and you shook your head.
“No idea. He would come in here and order and grab his stuff and leave.” You said and he nodded his head.
“Well, if you see him let us know.” He said and you nodded as he was walking away you stopped him.
“Wait! How am I supposed to contact you?” You asked and you could see him smile. He walked back over to you.
“Here is my number. Call me anytime.” He said as he finished writing his name and number on a card.
“Will do, Antonio.” You said and he swore right then and there he loved hearing his name rolling off your lips.
——————————————————————
8 months later you were dating Antonio and loving every moment of it and you knew he was too, he asked you out the week after the caught the perp.
When you had come home after him he would be at the stove cooking. When he heard to come in he would smile and turn around and come over to you. He would kiss you like his life depended on it and then he would be helping you take off your purse and jacket and then your shoes.
"What did I do to deserve such a loving boyfriend?" You asked him and he just smiled.
"You were working at the front desk of your shop. You also captured my heart and showed me what it was like to love someone and care for someone." He said and that had you smiling and smashing your lips onto his.
You had met every one of his friends and really enjoyed them. One night you were out at Molly’s with the girls while he was at home watching the game. “How’s it going with Antonio?” Kim asked you and you smiled.
“Amazing. He’s the best.” You said and they looked at you crazy.
“That can’t be the same Antono we know. The Antonio we know is a hard ass.” Erin said and you shook your head.
“No, not my Tonio. He would never.” You said and they were shocked. The night went on and the topic of Antonio passed and you all had the best time together. You really enjoyed having girl time with them and you hoped that they enjoyed it too.
When it was time to go home you, you all three bid each other goodbye and then headed in your separate directions. You finally got to your shared apartment and smiled when you got into the door to find Antonio sitting on the couch watching the game. You walked over to him and draped your arms over his shoulders. He kissed your hands “Hello there beautiful.” He said and you smiled and started to kiss his neck.
“I heard something interesting tonight.” You said and he hummed and pulled you gently to where you were standing in front of him and you straddled him and kissed him sweetly.
“What did you hear?” He asked and you smiled into the kiss.
“I heard that you’re a hard ass at work.” You said and he looked at you with a raised eyebrow. “I told them that, that couldn’t be right. Not my Antonio, he’s too sweet.” You added and kissed him.
“That is because they deserve and you don’t.” He said and kissed you further game forgotten. Your hands made their way down his chest and to his belt. You could feel his erection against your thigh since you had chosen to wear a dress. A dress that he absolutely loved. He gently turned to where you were laying on your back and he was hovering over you. “I love this dress on you.” He said and went back to kissing you. He started onto your neck and you turned your head to give him better access.
“Feels so good.” You said and moaned out you could feel him smirk into your neck. One of his hands made its way under your dress and caressed your soaking wet core.
“So wet for me.” He said and rubbed you through underwear and your folds.
“Only for you.” You said and then he pulled them to the side and thrust a finger into you and your head was thrown back in pure pleasure. You were close to getting off and he knew it and just him curving his finger and hitting your g-spot had you coming undone. He knew your body like the back of his hand and knew what got you off.
When you came down from your high, he was pulling his finger out of you and into his mouth. “Delicious.” He said and sat up taken his shirt and the rest of his clothes off. His erection came springing up and hitting his toned stomach. You just looked at him and then he was helping you take your dress and underwear off. He didn’t waste anymore time in attacking your right nipple while he slid his cock up and down your soaking wet folds and then sliding into you.
He gave you time to adjust and then he was gently moving himself in and out of you. The combination of him thrusting into you and him giving your, now, left nipple the same attention had you grabbing onto his hair. “I’m close.” You said and smirked and came off your nipple with a pop and smirked at you.
“Cum with me.” He said and you looked at him and nodded and he brought you into a kiss while a hand went down to your clit and started to circle it and pinch it slightly. The other hand went down to your calf and lifted it up as he sat up and that allowed him to thrust deeper into you. He was close and you could tell but the heavy breathing and sloppy thrusts. “Cum for me.” He said and that is exactly what you did and so did he. He painted your walls white and stilled inside of you head thrown back. When you both came down from your highs. He let go of your calf gently and rested his head on yours.
“You’re an amazing boyfriend. I don’t know how they can say you’re a hard ass.” You said with a chuckle and kissed you.
“I’m only sweet for you my beautiful girl.” He said and pulled out of you. Both of you moaned. He stood up and you watched him. Antonio bent down and gently picked you up and headed to the bedroom. When you got there, he gently pulled the covers back with one hand and then gently put you down while he covered you and got in on the other side. Antonio gently wrapped his arms around and you and pulled you into him. “I love you.” He said and kissed the top of your head. “I love you too.” You said and the both of you drifted off to sleep. He may be a hard ass at work but he was the most caring boyfriend by the time he got home. You were never going to let him go.

Part 1/?
—————
Warning- this chapter will contain graphic descriptions of crime scenes, including dead body's and the violence behind the deaths.
The case had been going on for months now, everyday with little to no breaks interviewing people, getting absolutely nowhere.
The lead detective y/n was tasked with figuring out who was behind all the murders currently happening Chicago, they started three months ago, when a barely eighteen year old girl had been found murdered in a ditch, her wrists covered in rope burn, throat slit and a mark carved into their forearm, some kind of disfigured stick-man. Then another one, a male 18 year old with the same rope burn, slit throat, and same mark carved into his forearm
Currently, detective Y/L/N sits at his desk going over evidence, the room dimly lit as the lamp on his desk flickers a few times and the sun sets outside the of the building, the shadows in the room moving slightly the further as the sun sets, its minimal yet noticeable every time the detective looks up from the files. The detective at the desk holding one hand in his hair as he relentlessly looks over the evidence, that is until his partner, detective Jackson puts a cup of coffee down on the desk. "Take a break Y/N" he mutters out before he sips on his own coffee. Y/n sighs, he sits up and looks up at the man In front of him. He was short brown hair, and is wearing nothing less than a suit at the ungodly hour of eleven o lock at night, completely contrasting that of the describe sat down, whose wearing a hoodie and jeans.
"you know.. I just don't understand the motive.. Eli.. I just-" he sighs before taking a slug of hid coffee and leaning back in the chair, it creaks slightly as he does so, as if it were over used.
Eli opens his mouth to speak, just before he can another detective on the case runs into the room "we got another body- just outside of some school In Malta- we gotta move fast!" Both detectives at the desk run out of the room.
"Give me all the Info you've got Toby." y/n shout as the three of them rush over to garage.
"The Vic is male, around 5'9 in height, same injuries as the other, only this time there's a note lodged in the throat." Toby reels off the information as they get to the cars, y/n sitting in passenger, Toby driving and Eli in the back. "Maria and Mike are already over there, the captains on his way now, it'll take fifteen minutes to get there."
The three get there just before the captain arrives, he's a tall man, forty three year of age, and has been apart of the police force since the age of twenty. He walks with meaning, his boots hitting heavy off the floor as they hit the concrete with force. His hands in his jacket pockets. His gray hair tucked into a woollen hat. He gets the information he needs from the detectives who were already on the scene. Before he's addressed by the forensics officer, she informs him of how long the victims been dead for and evidence she can take in to try and get DNA on the perp.
"Thank you Brie." He speaks, his voice gruff. He kneels down and takes his hand out of his pockets, he places latex gloves on and inspects the body himself before taking the note that was folded and lodged into the victims throat. "Detective "Y/L/N" he stands and turns to the detective, whose eyes are now just as confused as the captains.
"Yes sir?" He asks, his confusion evident in his voice as he starts walking over. Pulling his hands from his pockets, he takes a pair of gloves from Brie and puts them on.
The captain falters for a second before handing it over to the younger detective "it's for you. I want you to analyse this. Then I want you and Maria to look over security footage." The younger detective nods as he keeps hold of the slightly damp paper in his hands. "The rest of you go with forensics. See if you can find anything there." With that the captain leaves, heading back off to the station to work on other cases he's been saddled with no doubt.
Maria approaches Y/N she's the older of the two, only by three years, but that's three more years of experience she has on the other detective. "You work on that letter then hit me up and then we can review security." She nods before also walking off her hands in her pockets, ready to sleep for the night. The others also doing their own tasks they have, where as y/n is left with an unopened letter from a serial killer addressed to him. He stares for a second, then looks around before slowly opening the letter.
The ink is smudged from the saliva of the victim, he reads the letter, silently, taking in every word of the short sentence that has been written on the paper.
You've caught my attention detective, maybe we'll meet sometime.
- well.. you'll know soon enough
He folds the paper back up, seals it in an evidence bag and takes a car back to the police station to file it in as evidence for the case.
He walks over to Maria's desk before he can speak she interrupts him. "We have to wait until the stores around where the body was found open up, so go home and catch some sleep, it's gunna be a long day tomorrow." Is all she says before packing up her desk and walking away from him, he lets out a sigh and walks out of the station.
—
The next day, y/n had gotten out of bed at five thirty sharp, switched off his alarm and gotten ready for his day at work.
He took it upon himself to wear something somewhat presentable, smart trousers, button up shirt, suspenders and dress shoes, he looked sharp. He out on his jacket and tie, fixed his bed head and left the house.
Once he'd arrived at work, he had done his usual, grab a coffee from a the shitty coffee machine that sat in the break room, it somehow always managed to break the every time anyone used it. He the. Sat in the couch waiting for the rest of his team to arrive, though the only person he really needs right now is Maria. The first to arrive  is the captain, he walks into the break room with confidence and sits next to y/n on the couch. "So the letter.." he coughs out, almost nervously as he looks over at the young man sitting next to him.
Y/n shifts uncomfortably "oh.. right- uh it was just saying that who ever the perp is.. has gotten interest in.. me.." he sighs, the captain groans and nods, he looks over at the window, watching as the people of the city start fully waking up as it hits six am.
"Well.." the captain starts before clearing his throat and sitting up straight "I'm not going to take you off the case yet.. but don't do anything stupid." He finishes before standing up and walking over to his office, on the opposite side of the bullpen. Y/n sighs and drinks the rest of his coffee. Maria walks into the break room and looks at him.
"You look like shit." She sighs and nods her head to follow him.
"Well Goodmorning to you too" he mumbles under his breath as he gets up and follows her. "So where's the first stop?" He asks as they get into the elevator. Maria leans over and presses the button for the garage.
"The grocery store just opposite where the murder happened, they have a security camera that should hit the spot where it happened exactly" she gruffs out just before the doors open, she's clearly not a morning person. She shoves her hands into the pockets of her jacket as she walks over to the black undercover car, her taking the drivers side and y/n taking the passenger side. "We go in, get the footage and leave."  All y/n does is nod in agreement.
When they get to the store, Maria does all the talking while all y/n can think of is the letter, who was the perp? What did they want with him? Just as he turns to tune into the conversation going on with Maria and the store owner, A woman taps his shoulder. "Oh sorry ma'am I'm working right now" he answers politely, she was the same height as him, and had an interesting dress style, her hair covered up by a beanie and the hood of her jacket, the black mask she was wearing covering most of her face.
She pulls her mask down "you're in-front of the cleaning products" she gives him a small smile, he sheepishly moves out of the way slightly embarrassed, he mumbles out an apology. "I hope I see you around.. detective.." she waves and walks off away from him.
"—well, we appreciate the co-operation, thank you ma'am" Maria smiles and walks into a room next to them, y/n stops for a moment watching the girl he's spoken to before walking into the room with Maria. He watches as she downloads the footage onto a usb stick.
"Do you think we'll get what we need?" He asks looking at the monitors, able to see clearly the spot where the murder took place.
Maria nods then turns to him. "Hey.. so maybe don't be flirting with random girls while in the job.. even if they are cute" she smirks and nudges his shoulder with her own.
"What-!?" His face heats up and he looks away from her "I wasn't- she just wanted the cleaning supplies-" She laughs at him before patting him on the shoulder. "Let's just get this back down to the station to look it over" he mumbles.
When looking over the footage he zooms in on the perps face, not being able to make much out as they have they back turned to the camera for the full of the murder, only after they carve the mark into the victims arm do they turn around quickly, causing their hood to fall down, revealing long black hair, half of it tied up. "This is useless" Maria mumbles as they're half an hour into reviewing the footage.
"Shut up" y/n mumbles just as the perp starts to turn to walk away.
"What?" Maria counters before looking at the screen "holy shit." She mumbles leaning down to look at the computer screen. The girl on the screen puts a mask on before she looks up into the camera and gets into a car. That conveniently had a leaf stuck to the license plate.
"Fuck.. I can't make it when it's zoomed out, then when I zoom in it.. it's just so Pixelated.." y/n sighs as he puts his head back. Frustrated after spending half a day of work to get nowhere.
Heavy footsteps make their way over to his desk, he looks up to see the captains combed hair and uniform. "Tell me detective, any useful information from today?" He asks holding his hat under his arm.
"Other than the perp is female.. no" he sighs as the captain nods then walks over to the front of the bullpen. "Detectives." His voice commands the room, everyone in the precinct turns around and looks at him. "Your work day is over, go home, get some rest." He announces, there's A heavy sigh from most of the people in the room, Maria pats y/n in the shoulder twice before wandering away from the desk, the captain looks over at him. Y/n grabs his jacket and jacket and walks over to leave, the captain grabs him the arm. "I mean it son. Get some rest".
All y/n can do is nod before walking out of the precinct and heading to his apartment, thinking of spending some well earned time with his cat and his Tv.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea - Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Summary - Hailey’s US visa was due to expire, which normally wouldn’t be an issue as the CPD would get it renewed but due to a backlog of paperwork, this wasn’t possible. This meant Hailey was faced with the real possibility of having to leave the country, her job and everything she held dear. That was until Jay offered up a solution which would allow her to stay in Chicago, in Intelligence, with him - they could get married. Getting married was a good idea, right?
Chapters - 6/18
Chapter Title - The Written Proof
Notes - absolutely blown away by the response on the last chapter so thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this chapter! AO3 Link
‘Wait so let me get this straight,’ Mouse’s voice echoed through the speaker of Jay’s phone. ‘You, the law abiding cop, want me, your not so innocent friend, to change the metadata on some photos and edit your text and phone records? And you won’t tell me why?’
‘That’s about the thick of it, yes,’ Jay said with a sigh. He knew it was an ask and a half. It would have been a lot to ask of Mouse even if he gave him the full story but he was keeping him in the dark. Having Will know what they were doing was already a big enough risk, they couldn’t have their secret in the hands of someone who by his own omission was less than innocent. Jay trusted Mouse, he trusted him with his life and he had done so on more than one occasion, but this was something bigger. It wasn’t just Jay’s life on the line here, it was Hailey’s too. And it was Jay’s job to protect her.
He heard Mouse laugh down the phone, ‘I’m in.’
‘Really?’ Jay said, a little shocked with how easy his friend had agreed to it.
‘If you say you need it done, then you need it done,’ Mouse said nonchalantly. ‘Just checking, is this for a case or something else?’
‘Something else,’ Jay admitted.
‘Okay then brother, I’ll do whatever you need. Come over in an hour or so, bring both the phones and I’ll see what I can do.’
‘I’ll owe you one Mouse,’ Jay said, running his hand through his hair. This part of the plan was making him a little nervous, even if he’d admitted the opposite to Hailey this morning when she had asked. He had told her that it would all be fine, no problem at all. However his mind had been full of images of them both in cuffs being perp-walked out of the district. It wouldn’t get that far, and if it ever did, there was no way he was letting Hailey take the fall for it. It was his idea. This whole thing, it had been his idea.
‘I’m sure I’ll cash in on that someday,’ Mouse said with a chuckle before ending the call.
Before Jay had too long to spiral about the fact they were really breaking the law now, he heard the front door open and he greeted Hailey with a warm smile.
‘Hey,’ she said, her arms full of shopping bags. ‘I may have gone a little overboard but I thought better safe than sorry,’ she lifted both her arms to demonstrate and Jay chuckled.
‘Well we don’t want the apartment looking bare,’ Jay got up to relieve her of some of the weight. ‘Okay, maybe a little overboard,’ he said once she passed over a couple of the bags and he felt just how heavy they were. ‘Did you buy every frame in Target?’ He joked.
‘No, but I did go to HomeGoods as well just so we had a variety,’ Hailey dropped all the remaining bags onto the coffee table, rubbing her hand over her wrists where the bags had started to cut in.
‘And you got the photos printed too?’ Jay asked, starting to decant the bags and stack the frames according to size. There were some small ones with plain frames, some larger ones, a couple with different shapes for the photos, and one large one that he already knew was going to take pride of place on their shelves.
‘Yep, I just got them all and figured we could see which ones we liked?’
‘Sounds like a plan. Oh I spoke to Mouse,’ he added.
‘And he’s okay with helping us?’ Hailey asked, pausing from unpacking her own bags to glance up at him.
‘Meeting him in an hour,’ Jay nodded. ‘I just told him I needed a favour, he doesn’t know anything else.’ Hailey hummed in response, turning her attention back to the stacks of frames.
‘Sorry you have to lie to him,’ she said quietly after a moment. ‘I don’t like putting you in that position.’
‘Hails, we talked about this. It’s a necessary evil but if he knew, he’d understand. They all would, you know that,’ Jay said, taking a seat on the couch although Hailey kept her back firmly to him. ‘I need to bring your phone too, you going to be alright without it for a bit?’
‘Oh, of course, I hadn’t thought about that, but yes, I’ll be alright. I’ll get all of these put together and put up. Do you have any preferences about which ones we use?’
‘No, just leave me an empty one?’ He asked. They had discussed putting a photo on each side of Hailey’s bed, and Jay knew exactly which one he wanted on his side, but knew if he asked Hailey to frame it, she’d say no. When they had been taking photos on the dock of the lake house, it had taken him a couple of tries to get the timer set up properly so there were some candid shots of just her at the end of the dock. In one of them she had been laughing, he couldn’t remember what he had said or done to cause such a reaction but she looked so happy, so free. She looked beautiful in it, and he had known as soon as he had seen it, that that was the one he wanted in a frame. But she had blushed when she had seen it, it probably hadn’t helped that he had told her it was a beautiful photo. But it was, and Jay wasn’t in the habit of lying. Especially not to Hailey, not about that.
Hailey paused and turned to look at him before nodding, ‘yeah I can leave you one if you want.’
‘Thanks,’ Jay said, relieved that she wasn’t questioning him on it. ‘I’ll pick up some dinner on the way back from seeing Mouse?’
‘I’m feeling Thai if you are?’ Hailey suggested.
‘Thai it is then.’
——————————————————————————
Jay had been sitting in Mouse’s rundown studio apartment for over an hour, both his and Hailey’s phones were connected up to a number of monitors and goodness knows how many wires. He had no idea how Mouse was doing what he had requested and he really didn’t want to know how many rules they were breaking, or at least bending by doing what they were doing.
‘So I’m changing the dates on the photos to random days over the past 2 years? Or 18 months?’ Mouse asked, not looking up from where he was typing away feverishly.
‘18 months would be fine, maybe the ones at the lakehouse more recent, the ones at the Bean the oldest?’ Jay suggested. He knew the ones they had taken at the lake were the most romantic, and if they truly had been in a relationship then a weekend away wouldn’t have been something they had done right in the beginning.
‘I got it,’ Mouse said. ‘I’ve gotta say though mate, this girl. You’ve lucked out with her.’
Jay couldn’t help but blush slightly. ‘Thanks man,’ was all he could say. He knew Hailey was gorgeous, had known it for a long time, and he would be incredibly lucky to truly have her as his own. But he didn’t, not really, he was just her best friend. And as much as part of him may want something more, he loved being her friend. He wasn’t going to do anything to jeopardise that, she meant too much to him for that.
‘Don’t know what a girl like this is doing with the likes of you though,’ Mouse chuckled.
‘You almost done?’ Jay said, not wanting to acknowledge Mouse’s comment. It hit just a little close to home for him.
‘Almost with the photos, then I’ll need a little more instruction about what you want done with the texts.’
‘Great, I promised Hailey I’d get dinner.’
‘And you want to get back to your girl, I get it, I get it,’ Mouse chuckled. ‘Okay that’s the photos done. If anyone looks at these it’ll look like they were taken across the last 18 months and the data matches on ones on both your phone and hers.’
‘Thanks Mouse,’ Jay said with a small smile.
‘Sometimes I use my powers for good,’ Mouse said, taking a swig of the beer that Jay had brought him. Jay had offered to pay him for his help but Mouse had refused, saying he didn’t charge friends who needed help. But Jay had still brought him over a six-pack and if he was planning on leaving some twenties tucked down the side of the couch when he left, he would deny it if anyone ever asked.
‘So these texts,’ Mouse said, scrolling through the conversation between him and Hailey. ‘Not going to lie to you man, they are pretty flirty anyway.’
‘No they aren’t,’ Jay said, blushing slightly. ‘Strictly professional.’
‘Well I’d like someone to be this professional with me if you get my drift,’ he winked and Jay threw one of the pillows from the couch at his chair. ‘Hey, I’m just saying!’
‘Can you just add some love hearts or shit like that?’ Jay ran his hand through his hair, he hadn’t really thought this bit through. ‘Maybe some I love yous?’
‘I can definitely add shit like that,’ Mouse chuckled, turning his attention back to the screen. ‘I would ask why, but I know you’re not going to tell me.’
‘Wish I could man, but…’ he tailed off.
‘Need to know basis, I’m sure,’ Mouse shrugged. ‘Now when did you first tell Hailey you loved her?’
‘What?’ Jay spluttered on his own beer.
‘Well when did you say it and then I’ll add some in from that point onwards.’
Jay was glad that Mouse still had his back to him, he was certain his cheeks would be the colour of beets right now.
‘Oh umm, like 2 months in,’ he said, thinking quickly on his feet. ‘We had been partners for a while first so it didn’t take long.’
‘Halstead the hopeless romantic, who knew,’ Mouse chuckled as his fingers continued to work at breakneck speed on the keyboard.
‘Shut it,’ Jay murmured without much conviction. It was true, he thought, he was a hopeless romantic and his current predicament had done nothing to change that.
‘This Hailey must be really special if you’re going through this much trouble,’ Mouse said.
‘You have no idea,’ Jay muttered.
——————————————————————————
When Jay walked back into the apartment that evening, he’s struck by how different it felt. A good different. Hailey had finished putting all the photos in the frames and had scattered them around the room, it immediately gave the place a feel of a home. A home for two people who loved each other. He swallowed quickly, his throat suddenly hoarse before calling out.
‘Hey I’m back.’
‘Oh great, I was about to starve,’ Hailey said dramatically, appearing from her bedroom.
‘Because there’s no food in the cupboards for you to eat,’ Jay smirked as he started to place the take out on the counter.
‘Of course not,’ Hailey grinned as she jumped up onto the counter, swinging her legs happily as Jay passed her some food. Jay couldn’t help but smile, seeing Hailey happy and comfortable like this, it really felt like something special. Sure they had spent plenty of time together as partners and as best friends but sharing a space like this, it was like seeing her in a brand new light. And he wasn’t complaining.
‘So Mouse sorted out all of the photos and added some stuff to our texts to make them flirty like we were actually dating,’ Jay said as he opened his own order. He left out the bit where Mouse had stated that their texts were already a bit flirty, he didn’t want to make Hailey feel uncomfortable. Passing Hailey her phone, he turned his attention back to his dinner as she scrolled through the messages.
After a brief moment he heard her breath hitch, glancing over he noticed that her cheeks had reddened slightly too. It was quite embarrassing having someone else read through all your texts, he assumed that’s all it was.
She cleared her throat, ‘thank Mouse for me, these should be perfect.’
‘I will do,’ he smiled gently up at her.
‘So the next step is setting a date to have Trudy and Mouch round for dinner,’ Hailey said.
‘Still can’t believe you invited them for dinner,’ Jay chuckled. He loved Trudy as much as the next person but having her over seemed like a recipe for disaster.
‘It’ll be fine!’ Hailey responded. ‘But we should probably set some ground rules.’
‘For them or for us?’ Jay raised his eyebrow.
‘For us, if they are seeing us in our home then they are probably going to expect us to be a little more… umm… hands on than we are at the district or even at Molly’s,’ Hailey’s cheeks reddened as she spoke.
Jay choked on a piece of chicken at the thought of him and Hailey being hands-on, he tried his best to disguise it as a cough. ‘Umm, yeah I guess so. No different from being undercover right?’ He remembered her words when she had first mentioned the dinner.
‘Exactly but we should probably have some lines, what we are happy with and what we aren’t’, Hailey brushed a loose piece of hair that had fallen out of her messy bun behind her ear.
‘That sounds like a conversation that would be better with beer,’ Jay smirked when Hailey nodded and scooted down off the counter to fetch them both one from the fridge. As they both settled down on opposite ends of the couch, they took matching long swigs from the bottle before Hailey finally spoke up.
‘So holding hands and hugging, we are fine with that right?’ She asked.
‘Yep, I mean we hug anyway right so that’s no problem,’ Jay said calmly, wondering what else she was going to list off.
‘And small touches like a hand on a back or shoulder or something like we did on the photo day?’
‘Fine with those too,’ Jay agreed.
Hailey pauses before continuing, taking a long take from her beer, ‘but not kissing, I mean we wouldn’t be making out in front of Platt anyway would we?’ She chuckled, her embarrassment clear.
‘No I don’t think we would, I mean maybe on the cheek or something but not if it makes you uncomfortable,’ he said, running a hand through his hair as he spoke. Even the thought of kissing Hailey was making his heart quicken, ever since she had kissed his cheek at Navy Pier he had wanted to reach over and return the favour. His dreams had been a repeat of the same scene over and over, many a time she turned her cheek just as he was approaching and he caught her lips with his own.
‘That wouldn’t make me uncomfortable,’ Hailey said quietly, barely louder than a whisper but it was enough to wake Jay up from the semi-conscious dream he was experiencing. ‘If it was the right moment.’
‘Okay, we will just see how the evening turns out?’ Jay asked, hoping to put an end to this conversation quickly. Trying to list things he was uncomfortable doing with Hailey when it couldn’t be further from the truth was what was making him uncomfortable. He was also worried that she might be able to see through his facade, she could usually tell everything he was thinking. Lucky for him, she was clearly preoccupied with the current topic to notice.
‘Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. We are both good at thinking on our feet right? It’ll be fine.’ It sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than him at this point. This whole thing had been her idea but now it was actually about to happen, it clearly was fazing her somewhat.
‘Have you decided what you are going to cook?’ Jay asked in a subtle attempt to change the subject. It clearly worked as Hailey perked up as she answered.
‘I was thinking Spanakopita, it’s a classic,’ she smiled.
‘Sounds delicious, I can pick up some wine on the way home tomorrow if you want to invite them for like 7?’
‘Okay, and for dessert?’
‘I’m happy to make my Mom’s apple pie? It’s not Greek but it is really nice,’ he offered.
‘No that sounds perfect, you’ve never made me that before?’ Hailey’s head cocked slightly to one side as she asked.
‘No, it’s umm.. it’s a special one that I just don’t make often but this seems like the perfect occasion for it,’ he shrugged. Truthfully he hadn’t been able to make it for years after she passed, it would make him cry halfway through and it never tasted quite as good without having her to share it with. But in a way it felt like it was his way of introducing Hailey to his mother, he knew it was silly but he knew his mom would love Hailey, and he knew Hailey would love this pie.
‘Well then I’m honoured, and I’m sure Trudy and Mouch will be too,’ she smiled warmly, reaching out to squeeze his knee. He rested his hand on top of hers appreciating the support. Hailey knew how much he loved his mom and he could tell she knew how much it meant for him to share this with her, even if it was just a pie.
—————————————————————————
The evening was going surprisingly well, a slightly awkward start had melted into a lovely meal with good company. Platt gave Jay permission to call her Trudy which made Hailey give him a playful nudge with her shoulder as he had spent 15 minutes before they had arrived worried if he should call her Platt or Sarge and Hailey had laughed at him the whole time. Slipping into pretending to be dating Hailey was also very easy, just like it had been when they had spent time taking the photos round Chicago. It meant Jay didn’t have to second guess every time he was drawn to touch her whether it was an arm around her shoulder, a hand on her thigh or his hand on her back as he slid past her in their kitchen.
Hailey seemed to find it equally easy, she gravitated closer towards him than she usually did, leaning against him in the kitchen as he poured the wine, scooting her chair slightly closer to him when they sat down to eat, rubbing her hand across his back when talking about the trip they had taken up to Wisconsin. It was easy to forget it was all for show.
Jay almost forgot how to spell his own name towards the end of the evening. He brought out the apple pie for dinner, the one he had made earlier from his mother’s hand written recipe cards, the one Hailey had offered to help with and stood with him as he made it, listening to him telling stories about his mom and her famous desserts. She proudly told Trudy and Mouch all about it when he sat it down on the table and he couldn’t help but smile. He knew his mom would have done the exact same thing and that brought him such comfort.
When they all dug in and exclaimed how delicious it was, she leant across and kissed his cheek. He felt the warmth grow in his cheeks at the feel of her soft lips against his skin, it took everything he had not to close his eyes and relive it again and again. She’d kissed him on the cheek before, twice. Once during an undercover role and then once when they had been taking their photos the other week, he remembered both times vividly. But this was different, they were just quick kisses, mere pecks to be precise. This was a kiss. Her lips had grazed the corner of his, far closer than just a friend would kiss. She lingered longer too, he felt her breath on his cheek as she pulled back and felt the imprint of her lips. He knew he would feel it for hours.
‘It’s wonderful, babe,’ she said as she pulled back. It felt so natural, so right so he tugged her into his side in a quick hug before letting her go. If they didn’t have company he might have kissed her right there and then, just pulled her into his arms and tried to show her how wonderful he thought she was. But the realisation hit him - that if they didn’t have company, she wouldn't have done it. She wouldn’t be calling him babe, he wouldn’t be hugging her like that, she wouldn’t have kissed him. It was all for show. It wasn’t real.
After they had said goodbye to Trudy and Mouch, waving them off with their arms around each other, slotting together as if it was something they did all the time.
‘That went well,’ Hailey said as she pulled away and Jay tried to pretend that he didn’t miss the warmth of her body against his.
‘Yeah it did,’ he said, a fake smile fixed to his face. It wasn’t a lie persay, it had gone well, but it had also made Jay remember that it wasn’t real.
‘I don’t think they suspected anything,’ she said from where she had busied herself in the kitchen cleaning up and loading the plates into the dishwasher.
‘No not at all,’ Jay stood awkwardly by the door. ‘You can leave that, I’ll clear up in a bit, I’m just going to shower first,’ he said, heading towards the bathroom quickly before waiting for her to answer.
If he’d have turned back, he would have been met by a confused expression from Hailey. She had thought it had gone well, but maybe the kiss was too far. She hadn’t meant to do it, but it had just felt right but maybe she had crossed a line. She hadn’t meant to make him feel uncomfortable but by the way he scurried out of the room as quickly as he did, clearly she had. Seeing the words ‘I love you’ on the texts earlier from him, well edited to be from him, had lit something inside of her that she had unknowingly been ignoring but now it was bubbling right up to the surface. She just wished she hadn’t made him feel uncomfortable over something that wasn’t even real. Those words weren’t really from him.

The Assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald
Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged assassin of John F. Kennedy, was shot and killed by Dallas nightclub owner and Chicago mob associate Jack Ruby on November 24, 1963, just two days after the murder of the president.
As Oswald was being transferred through the basement of Dallas Police headquarters, a reporter asked the suspect if he had anything to say in his defense, to which Oswald responded, "I'm just a patsy."
A moment later, as cameras rolled and Oswald made the “perp walk” through a jostling crowd of reporters, escorted by Dallas Police Detective Jim Leavelle, Ruby emerged from the gaggle and fired a single shot into Oswald’s abdomen — his voice growling, “Oswald!” as he pulled the trigger.
Oswald died less than an hour later at a nearby hospital, Ruby’s bullet forever silencing the man who was ultimately deemed responsible for Kennedy’s death despite potential evidence of a broader conspiracy.
But whatever Oswald knew, he took it with him to the grave.

This movie happened before in reality then they did a movie then the movie is going to happen again but this time it's about the cocaine and the trucking an additional trucking of cocaine. There's a huge number of things happening and starting to get very very hot and heavy and people notice that the clones are doing most of the killing over stuff and the motorcycles revealing it.
We have more confidence to talk about the public systems separate subject and it's huge

Love your imagines ! I don't know if your requests are open, but if they are, can u make a Halstead!sister reader were Jay and the sis!reader had a big argument or somehting and they are like walking to the district (with the team)and then a shooter comes and shoot at them ? And sis reader get hit really bad and before she passes out she tells Jay she's sorry ? And Jay is all worried and also Will? And she make it and it's a fluffy ending ? Basically angst with a fluffy happy ending , thanks !
Here it is!
“I told you I tried and I’m sorry! What more do you want, Jay?” you screamed as you walked toward the district.
“What do I want?” Jay asked. “I want you to get your geometry grade up from D, Y/N. That’s unacceptable!”
“Like you did any better in high school! There’s a reason you went into the military and not to med school like Will.”
“Y/N, this isn’t about me. This is about you!”
“Fine! I hate math! It’s stupid and I’ll never use it! And you know what?”
“What, kid?”
“Right now, with you yelling at me, I hate you, too!”
Then you took off and started running as fast as you could go towards the district. At least then you could lock yourself in a bathroom stall and cry.
Jay chased after you. But then, he heard the tell-tale signs of gunshots.
“Y/N!” he yelled. “Get down! Get down, now!”
But he was a few seconds too late. A bullet had already grazed your left shoulder.
Bullets were flying everywhere and Jay knew that this wasn’t just a random shooting; it was a target at the district. And with the number of bullets flying, he knew they had to be from a sniper rifle. Even though it was a quarter block away from the district, he knew what the perp was doing.
Jay unholstered his gun and scanned the area, looking for the sniper’s nest.
“Help!”
But that was quickly forgotten when he heard your cries for help. But, over the noise of everyone else shouting and bullets going off, it was hard to hear.
“Y/N!” Jay yelled at the top of his lungs, hoping his voice was loud enough for you to hear. “Yell louder! Yell as loud as you can, kid! C’mon!”
“HELP! HELP! JAY, HELP!” You screamed so loud that you felt like they were on fire.
You kept yelling until Jay was right next to you.
He quickly took off his jacket when he saw that you were bleeding and pressed it against your shoulder.
“Y/N, I need you to hold this here, okay? Hold it tight.”
“It hurts!” you cried.
“I know. I know it does. But I have to call this in and look for the shooter. Can you hold it for me?”
You nodded while tears ran down your face.
“I’m sorry, Jay. I’m so, so sorry.”
The shooting stopped. The shooter had probably run out of bullets.
“I gotta go.”
“No!”
“Y/N, I have to.”
Then, he ran off.
“This is 50-21 George, there’s been a shooting a quarter block east of the 21st District. One civilian injured so far, non-critical. I’m going after the shooter.”
You watched from afar as Jay started towards a building. But then, a man came out of it.
You couldn’t hear what Jay was saying, but you just had a feeling that he was yelling. You could see that Jay was pointing his gun out in front of him.
“Chicago PD! Put your hands where I can see them!” Since the offender was wearing a white shirt, Jay could see the GSR on his clothes. Based on the building he came from and how that would have a clear shot of where the shooting just occurred and the gunshot residue on his clothes, Jay knew this was the shooter. “Chicago PD!”
He started running and Jay chased after him.
“Chicago PD! Stop!”
But he didn’t.
So, Jay had no choice, but to fire his weapon.
The offender took two to the back and promptly fell to the ground.
You watched as the offender fell to the ground.
It felt weird. You knew sometimes Jay had to use lethal force to protect himself and others, but seeing him actually do it, in real-time, made you feel sick to your stomach.
Jay just took that man’s life.
“This is 50-21 George. Shots fired by the police. Offender is DOA.”
“Y/N! Y/N! Look at me!” Hailey yelled as she crouched down next to you. “You’re okay. We’re gonna get you to a hospital soon. Okay, sweetie?”
She obviously thought you were in shock since you couldn’t tear your eyes off of Jay and where he was standing next to the dead offender.
“Jay shot him,” you whispered while still holding Jay’s jacket. “Jay killed him.”
***
“How is she?” Jay asked when Will came out of the hospital room and into the waiting room. He, Will, and the rest of Intelligence had been informed that it was just a graze and there was nothing to be worried about since the bullet hadn’t been a through and through nor had it been lodged in the skin. You only needed a few stitches, despite there being lots of blood.
Hailey had told Jay what you said when she got to you, and for that reason, he sent Will to go in before him.
“She’s okay,” he answered. “A little shaken up as anyone would be.”
“Does she hate me?” Jay asked.
“What? Hate you? No. Why would you think that?”
“We got in an argument before it all happened and she said she hated me and then she saw me fire my weapon, Will. She basically watched as I killed someone!”
“She doesn’t hate you. C’mon. Just, come see her.”
Hailey squeezed his hand and then he got up and followed Will into the hospital room.
“Hey, kid,” he said when he saw you sitting in the hospital bed. “I’m sorry you had to–”
“Do you feel bad?” you asked.
“About what?”
“Shooting him. I know you did it for all the right reasons, but–”
“Y/N, I didn’t like shooting him. I yelled out for him to stop multiple times. And, I knew he was the offender based on…cop stuff. I didn’t want to, and yes, I feel bad because maybe if someone else was there, it would’ve turned out differently.”
“I just saw someone die. And, I know you had to do it, but- but–” you looked down at your lap and started crying.
Jay sat down next to you and put an arm around you. “I know, I know. I remember my first time seeing someone killed in the military and even though I knew he was a horrible person, I threw up.”
“You did?”
“I did. It’s okay to feel that way.”
“Even if he was a bad guy, I can still feel this way?”
“You can still feel this way. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
“Me, too.”
“Now,” Will butted in, “What’s this about you getting a D in geometry?”
You groaned and threw your head back. Not this again.
“I think, after the day we’ve all had,” Jay started, “that we can wait for tomorrow to figure out that problem.”

haapy thursday...
law and order AND criminal mind spoilers under the cut! (criminal mind at the very end and very easy to skip over)
Thank god for these recaps because I forget ninety percent of what happens on OC because I just do not care lololoolol.
Where do I know this motherfucker from? (duran) (ouat… that’s where)
Uuggggghhh we’re gonna have to deal with MORE UC Elliot?! Fuck this
LOOL she’s a CI, fucking new there was something off about her. Like yeah, she’s still a criminal but cooperating lol.
I feel like this approach to getting in is literally the worst. Why would this fuck ever trust anyone who just randomly walks up to him in a bar with a duffle of money?! Like that’s CLEARLY a fucking cop. I know there’s the pretense of “killing kevin” shit but still… I would not believe
Uggh Elliot shut the fuck up, stop taking this out on Jamie….
I don’t trust this other boss dude, not one bit… I feel like literally everyone on this show is out to get Ayanna and fuck up her life like… can she just be left in peace for ONCE pls.
And immediately after I say that Elliot goes behind her back and groups up the squad into a secret operation without her permission or even opinion on it. Like, he really doesn’t understand that she OUTRANKS him right?! Like could you IMAGINE if Velasco or muncy pulled that crap on olivia?! They’d be out of a job. Like… even with Duarte, who is *not* part of her squad, but a level below as a lieutenant, she got all attitudey “the next word out of your mouth better be followed by a ‘captain’.” Like…cmon… I get that this is meloni’s show, but like, have some fucking respect for your boss??
Whyd they make sure a big deal out of this girl and the police reveal on elliots behalf if SHE’S ALREADY A CI?? SHES ALREADY WORKING WITH THE COPS!??
LOOOOLLL the look on bell’s face when Jamie took her coffee. PLEASE. M’am’s about to smack a bitch
Kay. So… you’re telling me you’re looking for duran… and you HAVENT checked with the daughter’s house?? (or is this all a rouse?)
Is she *not* a CI? I’m so fucking confused.
Jfc the disgust face I made when she kissed him, fuck this
Yeah man, im with Jamie on this….
Okay, update from last week now that imdb is updated… elliot’s therapist IS the same actor as fin’s rope/tide guy. Fucking KNEW IT.
Mothership time..
Oooo! LOVING the blue on kate!!
Callback to the SHOES! YES! Something that Chicago pd taught me was to look for the shoes cause they can’t dump them or change them like they can a coat/hoodie. I knew he had red ones!
He’s an upper east side prep school kid and the judge REALLY went for a mere $2mill?? Jfc
Is sam going to actually get to do this one on her own for once?? Pls…
Aawweeee sam my beeebeeeee…. Let me HUG YOU PLS. im thankful for more insight into her background now
Jfc… nolan’s “excuse me?” when sam brings up the rich white kid comment? Go fuck yourself. BLESS mccoy for stepping in and defending her and agreeing, give her some damn respect fuck.
Vic had THIS many *severe* injuries and the perp only has a broken wrist/hand whatever, and we’re seriously claiming self defence? That’s going WAY overboard bestie
Okay I called being under the influence as a defence plea at the beginning… but god what a fucking dick move just because you know you’ve lost the self defence plea. Ugh.
Okay…they bought dabs at like, 11pm? And the murder happened at like what 6am? Like obvi he could’ve been smoking all night as he wandered around and threw rocks but still.. this is fuckign bull
They’re saying he LEGALLY ingested it, yet he’s 18 & the legal age is 21, so there’s THAT and then there’s the fact that his FRIEND was the one who bought it with his weed card, NOT him.
NOLAN WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK YOU PIECE OF SHIT. YOU JUST WANT TO THROW SAM UNDER THE BUS CAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO TAKE THE FALL FUCK YOU.
I was LITERALLY about to say “why is every week of this show the old white lawyer and cop being fucking stupid and the poc characters having to be all ‘smarten up bruh’,” and THEN THAT HAPPENED. Fuck.
At least mccoy has her back.
Okay back to raging about Nolan… like.. this just makes it look like a personal vendetta. Change it out to the female poc lawyer leading the case, the one who you know is already having an emotional week and taking the case a little bit too hard. So if she gets emotional in the courtroom or whatever it’s because “she’s a woman” if she crosses a line its because she’s biased to the poc vic. Like FUCK this. Sam gets treated like shit and tossed into the ditch every goddamn week of this show I s2g, she deserves better.
Still mad at Nolan but overall that ep was WAY more entertaining and interesting than any other one ive seen. Doesn’t hurt that it was a very sam focussed one…
Time for SVU
Velasco coming in clutch with the cozy coat collection yet again
Bx9 has literally been around for YEARS, like we’ve seen them in so many previous seasons, and liv has been in svu the entire time, she’s worked bx9 cases before, how tf would she have not known/realized this shit earlier?
Fin getting stuck doing literal managerial work and absolutely hating it is peak comedy
Muncy going after Duarte… mood
We’re…really letting muncy out there on her own… this seems like bad news…
God this is fucking heartbreaking…
Still not sure if I trust or like Duarte…
I get this guys in the hospital but why is he not cuffed to the bed.. like..bruh is gonna RUN otherwise.
All of this “let them get settled” “tell her to come in tomorrow” “give them some peace” GURL PLS WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY’LL BE DEAD BY THEN…
THAT’S Oscar papa…. He’s a fucking twink…
Literally anyone could’ve seen that shanking coming… cmon… that’s been the theme tonight. Way too obvious foreshadowing..
Okay… so after all of that… it wasn’t actually Oscar papa?
Oh, okay, so they let this perp get dressed?? Lolololol
Im sorry… on what grounds do they have to arrest him? This is just based off what the other guy said? See… if we were going to do a three ep arc of this shit, and there’s still one left, could we not have wrapped up with some personal shit, the team out for drinks? Sonny going home to the girls?? Olivia maybe popping in to see how noah’s doing?? And then leave the arresting Oscar to the beginning of next week?
.
.
.
.
.
.
to briefly touch on criminal minds as well because i yelled out loud and scared my roomate lololol.
last week was SO fucking good, like they fed us so well and then this week wtf was that!? the bomb going off, we knew from the promo jj would be relatively ok, but not luke. i KNOW their team is small so having one of them in the hospital would throw things off but like, at least one of them could be a little bloodied up, a little consequences once in a while would be nice and not just a jump scare (i cant think of the proper saying but you get my drift)
i never really shipped garcia & luke, so i'm not super mad about the tyler thing. do think its weird for garcia to be so hot and cold, like she refused to be in the same room as him and now she's (secretly) helping him out and giving him a place to stay and all that? i get that now he's out free cause he wasn't an unsub, and there's that sympathy over the dead sister and her being able to relate to it over her parents but it still seems super off. (and yes, i do think that it was incredibly dumb and irresponsible of the entire fbi team to be all "yeah, your sister's dead, sorry, BAI!" like, they shouldve asked if he had somewhere to go, a friend to talk to, anything...)
what I AM *very* mad about is rebecca & tara. we're introduced in the first ep to rebecca, and finally have some queer representation on the show (and played by a queer actor too!--presumably?? i dont know if its ever been legitimately confirmed?) for us to BARELY see them together, NEVER see them at home together (no matter how briefly they lived together). just to break them up?? like, don't get me wrong, i can see why what happened would cause a fight in their relationship, but even tara could go in and explain that at the time of the original case, she wouldve believed it too, that they had more evidence now and rebecca isn't at fault or some shit like that... why do we always have to kill our gays!? it's getting fucking old and im not here for it.
rest of the ep was meh? did love they got the jet back though. hoping next week is better.

LAW & ORDER: SVU / One Chicago MASTERLIST
Mostly Law & Order: SVU (Titles are links to the stories on AO3.) All stories contain language my mother would not approve of and I have yet to unlock the achievement of writing a story without a happy ending.
Mostly M/M Barisi and Stucky but also Dorisi. Also M/W with Peter Stone, Mike Dodds, and Chicago Fire Otis
I also have a Captain America / MCU Masterlist. (Or I will, and I'll link to it when it's done.)
LAW & ORDER: SVU:
Stories about Barisi, Dorisi, Peter Stone, and Mike Dodds. Also Chicago Fire Otis.
I Remember You
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Story, smut, angst, pining, fluff, Sonny Carisi whump, Rafael Barba whump (about the Sonny Carisi whump)
Sonny and Rafael are blissfully happy together. In fact, they're two weeks out from their wedding. After Sonny is assaulted by a perp during a raid, however, he can't remember anything about the last ten years, including law school. Or Rafael.
It's Complicated
Rafael Barba / Original Female Character Story, smut, angst, pining, fluff, enemies to lovers, Dorisi!
There's a new forensic psychiatrist working with SVU, and a rapist stalking NYC. Dr. Francisca Rojas and ADA Barba find that they're each the type the other detests, but they have to work together. Their frequent loud arguments in Spanish don't really hide the fact that they're also wildly attracted to one another. Then something happens that complicates everything, and Barba finds himself off the case. The squad is doing all they can, and Barba is helping, although his reasons infuriate Frankie. Two bonus "afterward" chapters because I liked this AU so much.
If I Ain't Got You
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Story, smut, angst, pining, fluff, hilariously bad Photoshop
Sonny and Rafael are just minding their own business, enjoying a crush neither knows is mutual, until Sonny shaves off that ridiculous mustache and turns out to be brilliant. These adorable idiots find their way to one another and, when things get serious, they introduce each other to their families. The problem? Mama Carisi instantly and permanently HATES Rafael. Rafael wants to propose, but he won't make Sonny choose between him and his family. Which means Rafael has to choose, at the cost of everything he's ever wanted.
One Little Three-Letter Word
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Angst, pining, shifting POV between Rafael and Sonny, fluff
On cross-examination, the defense asks a Very. Dangerous. Question. Sonny answers yes, and changes Rafael's whole world. With no idea what to do about it, Rafael gets a little help from Carmen and Rita.
There For Each Other
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Angst, Rafael Barba whump, smut, fluff
Rafael Barba loses a trial that should've been a slam dunk, and comforts himself by looking through his wedding pictures. He gets to reminiscing about how he cared for Sonny when Sonny was hurt, pretending all the while to be annoyed and convincing no one. He remembers how caring led to love. Sonny interrupts Rafael's walk down memory lane by making Rafael leave work early with him. It's Sonny's turn to care for Rafael, but the kind of caring Rafael needs isn't so gentle...
Pathetic
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Angst, pining, POV shifts between Sonny and Rafael
Rafael Barba has been gone for two years following his trial. He left Sonny Carisi without even saying goodbye. And Sonny is pissed.
Rafael thought he was doing the right thing. Now he's back, and willing to do anything, because he can't go one more day without Sonny.
Afterlife
Rafael Barba / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Short one-shot, just a mood
They always expected that Rafael, being older, would go first. But he didn't. When he does, Sonny's there to meet him. No, really. That's it. That's the fic.
No One Else
Dominic "Sonny" Carisi / Original Female Character Story, smut, fluff, angst, pining, ADA Carisi
Detective Sonny Carisi falls helplessly in love with OC Kate Kinsella. But when his dreams begin to come true, they realize there is simply no way that either one of them can see to get married when he’s in Manhattan with his wagon hitched to a star and she’s in Brooklyn making a name for herself. They have no choice but to give up on the idea that they can be together. So they say goodbye before they end up destroying something that is sacred to both of them.
Years later, Assistant District Attorney Carisi tries a case in which Kate is a witness, and they realize it's not over. It's never been over, for either of them. But someone will do anything to keep Kate from having Sonny.
A Little Too Undercover
Dominic "Sonny" Carisi / Original Female Character Short, smutty one-shot
Sonny Carisi goes undercover with his female partner, and they get a little too into their roles.
El Amor Todo Lo Puede (L&O / Chicago PD / Chicago Med / Chicago Justice / Chicago Fire Crossover)
Peter Stone / Original Female Character; Rafael Barba / Original Female Character; Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz / Original Female Character Story, smut, angst, pining, fluff, action. (This is the first fic I ever posted so be kind.) Peter Stone is forced to leave the love of his life, OC Laura Parker, because he can't watch her destroy her life with her alcoholism. She gets sober but loses her job at Chicago Med, and goes to work for Hank Voight at Chicago PD. She begins dating Mouse, and she and Peter rekindle their friendship, although there's no going back to love. When Mouse returns to Afghanistan and Peter's father dies, the two travel to New York for his funeral and decide to stay. That's when Laura meets Rafael Barba, and falls head over heels in love. The last thing Rafael wants is a relationship, but tell that to his heart.
Alternative endings: You can stop at Chapter 50 or keep reading for a different conclusion.
The Best Laid Plans
Peter Stone / Original Female Character Smuttiest smut I ever smutted. A/B/O universe. Peter Stone whump. Accidentally got a little plot on my porn.
When one of the SVU detectives goes into heat early, Peter gives her a ride home for safety reasons. Although Alpha Peter knows it's not a great idea professionally, that doesn't stop him from offering to stay. And that's when they realize just how compatible they really are.
Under the Influence
Peter Stone / Original Female Character A short, smutty one-shot
Peter meets a very successful female attorney when they take a case neither of them should be working on, and neither of them want to be. But they are both struck by lightning the minute they meet.
Becoming Mike
Mike Dodds / Dominic "Sonny" Carisi Smut, angst, pining, coming out to parents, Father/Son relationship between Chief Dodds
Mike Dodds had no idea when he accepted the job as the new Sergeant for Manhattan SVU that he'd be blindsided by meeting Sonny Carisi. Sonny is the man of Mike's dreams, and absolutely off-limits. At least, as far as Mike is concerned. Sonny has other ideas. How Mike learned to stop living the life his father wants for him, and figured out what Mike wants.
Best That You Can Do
Mike Dodds / Original Female Character Smut, Enemies as lovers (and enemies to lovers), angst, pining, everybody whump, married Barisi!
When Chief Dodds sees his son, Mike, with his staff member, OC Kaitlyn Myers, he realizes she's perfect for him. The Chief really likes Kaitlyn, and he knows she's exactly Mike's type. He's right. Within hours of meeting in Chief Dodds' office, Mike and Kaitlyn have a wonderful, steamy night together. Things are looking great until the next morning, when Mike makes a HUGE mistake. But Chief Dodds doesn't know that. So he goes ahead with his little matchmaking scheme. Kaitlyn is determined to stay far away from Mike, but somehow they keep finding themselves having sex... After Mike is killed in the line of duty, Chief Dodds will never forgive her for rejecting him, and neither will she.

Evidence
Fandom: Chicago PD / One Chicago
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Warning/s: shooting
Word Count: 1,615
Request:  Hi ! Can you do a jay halstead × reader where jay and y/n are dating secretly but one night jay left a hickey on y/n necks and on the next day y/n try to cover it up before work but can't and the rest of the intelligence team spot it and jay blush but she makes up a story but the intelligence team know and y/n and jay come clean and tell the rest of the team they are together ❤ thank you
Tumblr media
All in all, you thought you’d done pretty well, giving your neck one last look in your rearview mirror before turning on the ignition and heading to the 21st.
Jay had left your place early, neither of you arriving at work at the same time so as to not raise suspicions, so he’d been heading out the door when you’d finally gotten out of bed, already driving away by the time you spotted the hickey on your neck in your bedroom mirror.
You were not impressed to say the least, what part of a secret relationship had escaped his mind? With an annoyed groan you got to work covering it up the best you could, applying foundation more skillfully than you’d expected as you got ready for work.
There would be time for words later.
You were still driving in when the call came over the radio, shooting nearby your location with officers in need of backup, one down. Quickly throwing on your lights you expertly did a u-turn and headed back up the street you’d just passed, noticing people running for covering in the opposite direction to where you were going, frightened with their heads down.
It didn’t take long to stop the suspect, mask over his head and gun waving about in his hands as he shot behind him with reckless abandon at the uniformed officer in pursuit.
Slamming on your brakes you dove out of your vehicle, gun out and ready to engage. “Hey!” You called, diverting his attention from the other officers as his gun swung in your direction, diving behind a nearby car just as the bullets began to fly.
You poked your head up after a moment, getting off a shot before he realised the odds weren’t in his favour and took off into the garden of the car behind him. Cursing you slid over the bonnet of the car you were behind.
“I’ll get him, you get your partner!” You told the officer, who nodded gratefully and ran back to his fallen colleague, his led badly bleeding.
“This is 50 21 Foxtrot responding to the 10 1 on West 47th, I’m on the tail of an armed offender fleeing the scene of the shooting making his way South-” you paused, a little breathless as you hopped a fence and quickly dived to the side, narrowly avoiding another bullet as the offender kept running. You gave your most apologetic look to the women screaming in the garden you’d just entered but kept going, you couldn’t stop now - “through the neighbouring gardens, we should be coming out onto West 48th soon.”
The sound of cars was getting louder as you ran, a tall fence looking like it separated the two of you and the main road as the offender opened for a narrow side path out onto the street.
You were gaining on him fast as he tried to climb over it, grabbing his coat and pulling him down. His gun fell from his hand and you kicked it away as he scrambled after it, punching him hard in the jaw as he turned back to lash out at you.
“Stay down,” you ordered breathlessly, gun out and aimed square in his direction as the gate opened behind you, back up coming through. “You have the right to remain silent...” you relayed, getting out a pair of cuffs as you read him his rights and passed him off to the unis to bring back to the 21st in their squad car.
And then you were off to work.
-
“Hell of a morning,” Trudy commented as soon as you eventually stepped into the district, pushing her glasses up onto her head as you approached, an eyebrow going up as you reached the desk, “in more than one way I see.”
Your brow creased, “pardon?” You asked, unsure of what she was suggesting with her tone.
“My mistake, you must have got that bruise during the chase,” Trudy said sarcastically, gesturing to her own neck. Your eyes went a little wide, your hand going to where you’d spent way too much of your morning covering up the hickey Jay had given you.
“Of course,” you hummed unconvincingly, rushing to the bathroom as Trudy laughed. All that effort to cover it up and your sweat had washed it away, hopefully you could cover it up again before anyone wondered why you weren’t upstairs yet.
Barging into the bathroom you riffled through your bag for the foundation you’d brought, just in case you’d needed to touch it up throughout the day, but in all the excitement of the morning you’d forgotten all about it. Oops.
You were putting the finishing touches on covering it up when the door swung open again, too late to hide what you were doing as you found yourself face to face with Burgess.
“Voight’s looking for you upstairs,” she relayed, clearly amused as you hurriedly shoved your things back into your bag, embarrassed at being caught red-handed.
You were going to kill Jay.
She didn’t say anything on the walk up the stairs, but you avoid her eye guiltily as she buzzed you both up and you made your way to the bull pen.
“Took you long enough,” Adam commented when you both emerged, a coffee in his hand as he leaned against the breakroom door.
“Yeah, sorry, Y/N was busy covering up a hickey in the bathroom,” Burgess replied non-chalantly, much to your emence embarrassment. Kev snorted out a laugh and Jay choked on his drink as you tried not to meet his eye.
“Was she now?” Hailey laughed, the others clearly enjoying how flustered you were getting.
“I er- no- it was during the call this morning-” you tried and failed to sound believable as the others laughed more, Adam being the first to notice how red Jay had gotten since the converation began.
“No one’s buying that Y/N,” Kim informed you as Adam clapped Jay on the shoulder.
“Well that’s interesting,” he commented, watching the way Jay awkwardly cleared his throat, not daring to look at you. The others picked up on it too, the both of you looking very guilty in a room full of trained detectives.
“Got something to share there Halstead?” Kev asked, Jay finally looking at you with apology in his eyes as he finally saw the pourly applied foundation covering the very visible hickey he’d left.
You both hesitated before answering - was there really any use hiding it anymore? A room full of your closest friends who also happened to be detectives weren’t exactly going to drop the subject, or believe whateve bs you gave them in the moment.
Sharing a mutual resigned nod Jay rubbed the back of his neck, sitting up straighter in his chair. “Okay, well, we’ve kind of...”
“...being seeing each other,” you finished for him, realising he was unsure how to put into words exactly what you’d both been doing. If you were honest, you didn’t know exactly what this was either, you hadn’t discussed labels, but you both had feelings for each other, that much you knew for sure.
“For how long?” Hailey asked, looking at her partner with slightly narrowed eyes, wondering how long he’d been keeping this from her more than anything.
“A couple months,” Jay said, glancing back up at you with a little smile.
“Months?” Adam was shocked you’d both managed to keep this a secret from them for so long, “and this is the first we’re hearing about it?”
“Well, we didn’t want to get our wires crossed,” you shrugged, gesturing to try and get your point across, “we work together.” That had been one of the first things you’d talked about the first time you’d spent the night together, keeping your personal and professional lives as separate as you could.
“Yes, you do,” you heard your Sergeant say, jumping as Voight emerged from his office, leaning against the door frame with his arms folded. Uh-oh. “Is this going to get in the way of doing your job?”
You swallowed and shook your head, “no, sir.”
“We’re good Sarge,” Jay said at the same time.
All the teasing and joking smiles from the unit had vanished, waiting for Voight’s reaction with bated breath as he mulled it over in his head.
“Good,” he nodded, much to your relief, though you knew the conversation was far from over, “because we’ve got a case to get back to.”
He was right, this was work, there’d be time to think and talk about this more later - right now you had a dead city official and a cop in the hospital.
Burgess winked at you as you made your way to your desk, picking up a scrunched up piece of paper you had lying around and throwing at her once Voight’s back is turned. He paused, shaking his head, but didn’t turn back around as he went back to his desk.
You rolled your eyes at her and settled into your chair, knowing you had a report to write up about this morning’s incident, your perp down in holding at that very moment.
Still, you couldn’t help but look over at Jay, who was looking right back at you, offering you a small smile which you returned in kind. Voight wasn’t the only one who’d want to finish this conversation later, you and Jay had a lot to talk about now too, given that everything was out in the open.
Still, as you turned back to your desk and tried to focus on the task at hand, you couldn’t help but feel like everything was going to turn out okay.

Flesh Wounds & Somedays
Jay Halstead/Reader
ÂĄ!Warnings: Infant abduction/kidnapping. SIDS. Violence against women. Swearing. Fluffy ending.
Still unedited, hoping to have the nice version up soon. Sorry in advance! Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! Please be safe ❤
Upon exiting the very stereotypical "mom van" you're greeted with harsh Chicago air stinging your face and it instantly makes your eyes water. You hastily blink back the tears though it's fruitless. Instead you pull the knit hat you're wearing further down your head and pull your scarf tighter. You keep the door open, huddling near the inside of the vehicle. Anything to stay warm. You scan the parking lot for any sign of your suspect. Anxiety starts setting in. It doesn't matter how long you've been doing this. The moments leading up to a confrontation always send your stomach plummeting
"Easy now," Jay, sporting the store employee smock, whispers as he rolls a grocery cart by, indicating to your foot mindlessly tapping against the cement. Immediately you stop. You give him a small smile. He winks in response. You pretend to dig around in your purse, anything to give the impression you're distracted when in reality all your senses are in overdrive.
Voight's voice barks your last name through your strategically placed com. "Suspect approaching from the east. You know what to do. Everyone else, stand down for now! We don't wanna spook him."
You open the back passenger door before closing the driver's. Your fingers work quickly at unfastening the baby from the seat. You then drape a blanket over the baby for protection against the cruel elements.
It's subtle, but you cannot ignore the feeling you're being watched. The reality is you are. Your whole team is looking out for you. But this is something different entirely, something sinister. You suppress a shudder. Securing the blanket once more, you hoist the baby from the carseat and hold the infant against your chest. With a push of a button, the passenger door slides shut. You fiddle with the keys, making sure the van locks before tossing them in your purse.
You coo at the little bundle snuggled against your chest. Your steps deliberately appear hurried.
And that's when he emerges from a dark blue conversion van parked one whole row over. You spot him out of the corner of your eye and he is unmistakably walking towards you. But you stick to the plan. Your pace slows just barely, not wanting your target to sense the change. You also don't want to actually reach the store entrance and potentially bring harm to the public even with Al and Ruzek inside.
He suddenly appears in front of you, eyes frantically dart around before resting on you. He's disheveled. clothes are wrinkled and slightly stained. His greasy, unwashed black hair is plastered to his head. He smiles which unnerves you. But you return it anyway. His grin disappears. "Give me that baby. And you won't get hurt...much" He removes his right hand from his coat pocket and you notice the blade he's gripping. That's new, you think to yourself. He's growing desperate. Still, you have to get him to attempt an attack or abduction.
"No!" You pull the baby impossibly closer to you. "Leave or I'm gonna yell for help." The threat is feeble on purpose but still seems to evoke rage inside the man.
He lunges at you. His body weight sends you stumbling but you remain on your feet. He wildly pulls at your arms and at the baby, trying to break your grasp. He swings his left arm and his fist perfectly catches your eye.
"Son of a bitch!" You cry. Your foot slams onto one of his and you use that moment to headbutt him square on his chin. He lets out a primal scream before sticking the blade into your upper thigh and you can't help but yelp in pain. He tugs the baby out of your arms. The blanket drops to the ground.
You watch the changing expressions dance across his ugly face: anger, elation at his success, confusion.
"What the hell?"
It's the opening you need. Your weapon is drawn on him. "That's right, you stupid son of a bitch. The baby's fake. Chicago PD! Get down, face down."
Still in his stupor, he obeys. You kick the blade away just as Antonio and Jay come running from opposite directions. Antonio searches and mirandizes him. You return your gun to its inside waistband holster.
As your adrenaline begins to slow, you feel exactly how much pain you're in. It's evident that your eye has started to swell and there's a throbbing sensation in your thigh. You stagger a bit, but a pair of strong arms steady you.
He sighs and you look at Jay. "Don't start," you warn.
"I should have been there. I ended up carrying groceries for this old lady..."  Guilt is written all of his handsome features.
"Did she tip you?" You joke, but he stares at you. "Stop. We knew this might happen. He had to attack me." The rest of the team appears and Jay drops his voice to a whisper.
"Yeah, attack like come at you, not actually harm you." He looks as if he's about to argue more when the sound of tires squealing interrupts.
You flash concern. "He wasn't alone." Your eyes meet those of your colleagues.
Voight breaks the silence. "Antonio, get that piece of garbage out of here.Halstead, get her to Med. The rest of you let's head back." You open your mouth to protest, but Hank won't even let you get a word in. "That leg's gonna need stitches. Now go." He stares at you until you move. Jay lends his support as you gently lean into him. It's not as needed as it is comforting.
//
You were seen and stitched in no time; the wound to your thigh was mostly superficial. Your swollen eye, which was now bruising, was being iced. You would have left Med sooner if your weirdly overcautious boyfriend hadn't insisted that his own brother see you before checking out. It took Will saying it, but Jay finally seemed to accept you were, in fact, fine.
You want in that interview room more than you've wanted anything in a long time.
"Absolutely not," Voight answers when you ask. "This guy doesn't respect women. I don't need you going in there so he can admire his handiwork." He waves a hand indicating to your black eye you're still icing. Hank returns to the observation window to watch Antonio and Atwater interrogate a very non talkative perp.
You remain in the bullpen with Adam, Jay, Mouse and Alvin to stare at that damn board some more.
Alvin recaps; all of you hoping to discover something, anything at all, that could help solve the case.
"Here's what we know. 2 or more suspects working to abduct infants. 1 in custody. Greg Jones. Couple of parking tickets, nothing too serious. Attempted three abductions, not including today's, in broad daylight, over the course of two weeks. Only one was he successful, if you call it that, but the infant was later abandoned at Firehouse 51."
You interrupt. "That baby left at 51, was a boy, right?"
Al double checks before answering,  "Yeah."
"The other two attempts were on baby girls," Jay adds, possibly sensing where your mind is going.
You nod. "And today, I had a lavender blanket to cover the doll. One would probably assume it was for a baby girl. Just hold on a sec. Mouse," you holler over to him, knowing he'll pull up what you want faster than anyone. "Check hospital records and obituaries, plesse! Any infant deaths in the last month? Can you look into Jones' social media, too? Girlfriends and such." You've hardly finished the request and Mouse has the information for you. "How many of the babies that died were girls?"
"Two."
"Do you have the mothers' names? Any link to Jones?"
Mouse 's eyes scan the screen in front of him. "Tiffany Young...girlfriend of Jones according to Facebook, lost her baby girl last month."
You nearly hop up from your seat. "Text us her last known." You nod to Jay, asking without words if he's ready. Before you can walk away, Mouse calls your name.
"She was reported missing three days ago."
The whole team exchanges uneasy glances.
//
In a bizarre turn of events, Tiffany Young had reported herself missing. Jones and Young had been working together to abduct a baby girl with a plan to then flee the state. You and the team discovered that Young was conspiring against Jones going as far as plotting his murder to take place after a successful kidnapping. He would look responsible for her disappearance and his death would appear as a suicide. At least in theory.
It wasn't the best thought out plan, but in these situations they seldom were.
"I still don't understand," said Adam. You were all gathered around a large table at Molly's trying to relax after a long day. Well not all, Antonio made arrangements to see his kids. Al had also rushed off. "Why plan to off Jones?"
"She blames him for their daughter dying." You say taking a sip of your drink. "I read the report, even though it was SIDS, he was the only one there at the time." Everyone is quiet for a moment, presumably lost in their own thoughts.  It takes Herrmann coming around, asking who wants another round for the conversation to resume.
Thanks to the refills and a few well timed jokes, the mood of the night has drastically shifted to a much happier one. An hour or so goes by when Jay lightly squeezes your knee under the table. You understand the gesture, surprised that he's waited this long to signal his want to leave. Jay hadn't really wanted to go out in the first place. "I'm gonna head out," you tell the group standing  only when you've finished the last of your drink. There's a chorus of goodbyes. As you walk away, you hear Jay excuse himself to use the bathroom. You know he'll leave for your place afterwards. Neither of you know exactly why you keep the fact you're dating from your friends. Maybe the sneaking around is thrilling. Maybe it's just nice having something of your own. Regardless, it's the worst kept secret of the precinct, though no one has any proof and they ultimately leave you alone about it.
You've only changed into a tee shirt when a knock beckons you. You let Jay in. The door has just closed and he's ordered you to take your pants off.
"We need to work on your foreplay," you quip, but Jay's not laughing.
"I'm serious. I need to see again that you're okay."
You sigh, but shimmy out of your jeans. His genuine concern for you was slightly overwhelming in the best way, never having experienced anything like it before. Carefully, you pull back the adhesive bandage exposing your fresh flesh wound, still very bright pink and aggravated.
"I'm so sorry," he murmurs.
"It's not your fault," you say, trying to reassure him.
"I hate that you were hurting and I couldn't do anything." He pulls you for a tight embrace while mindful of your thigh. He's completely still for a moment, breathing you in and finding peace in your arms.
Suddenly, he picks you up off your feet. It catches you off guard and you giggle. "What are you doing?"
He doesn't answer. Instead he takes you to the bathroom and sets you on the counter near the sink. He starts rummaging through your medicine cabinet, pulling out gauze, bandages, and rubbing alcohol. He grabs a clean washcloth from the towel rack.
You raise one eyebrow in question. "I thought I had Detective Halstead, not Doctor."
"Tonight you have both." You bit down on your lip to keep from laughing, but the misconstruction of his words hit him. "That came out wrong. That's not at all what I meant." Laughter escapes from you and Jay joins in, shaking his head and telling you to keep your mind out of the gutter.
"Mm, it's difficult when you're around." You give him a quick peck on the lips.
He turns the warm water on, letting it run for a minute. He tests it, making sure it's not too hot before soaking the wash cloth. He rings it out and looks you in the eyes. "I'm not sure this is going to feel all that great.'
You nod your understanding and Jay very gingerly begins to clean your wound. You talk to keep yourself distracted. "I can't stop thinking about the case. Clearly, they're competent for trial and I'm not justifying what they did, or tried to do. But I can't imagine losing a baby. Just the thought…" Your voice drops off. You wish you could leave work at work, and sometimes you can, but tonight when you're struggling to do so, you feel extra fortunate to have someone who truly understands.
Jay has almost finished cleaning your wound, allowing it time to breathe before covering it with a fresh bandage. "I know," he says. "I kept thinking about if that had been us and our baby, what would stop me from going crazy."
Your heart flutters a little faster, "Our baby?" It's the first time he's ever said anything like this.
He suddenly avoids eye contact with you. "Yeah? I mean someday...down the road if we are still...and that's something we...you want...maybe?" His cheeks are flushed and he glances at you, his green eyes full of hope.
"Jay Halstead," you offer him a big smile, "have you been thinking about our someday?" He nods, giving you a smile of his own. You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him close to you. One of his hands rests on the countertop, the other lovingly brushes your cheek before you nuzzle into the spot just below his neck. You plant a kiss there. "Tell me more about your plans."
"Well they definitely don't include you getting stabbed again," he pulls away just enough to cover your thigh with the new bandage. A slight pout plays at your lips having not gotten the answer you wanted. Jay, seeing this, chuckles. "C'mon." He lifts you off the counter, carrying to the bedroom.
Gently, he places you onto the bed. You watch as he kicks off his shoes and strips down to his boxers. He catches you admiring his physique and shoots you a wink. But you pretend to still pout and cross you arms. It causes Jay to shake his head, bemused by you.
Pulling the covers back, he slides into bed and brings you to his side. He kisses the top of your head, fingers tracing a nonsensical pattern along your arm. "I see lots for us, love. So many ways things could play out, but it's always with you at my side."
"Yeah?"
"Oh yeah, definitely," and with that Jay launches into different versions of the future he's envisioned. Some are improbable, others imaginative, many seem possible, but all include you, just as he said.

i woke up just in time, now i wake up by your side
hello! this is for the (final!) @b99fandomevents—i can’t believe how far these two (and this show) have come, and i’m gonna miss them so much. i got to write this for @amydancepants-peralta, who wanted a fic where jake and amy have a disatrous first date, and then amy decides to transfer to chicago—jake has three days to convince her to stay.
enjoy! (you can also read this on ao3.)
It’s their first date, and it’s a disaster.
Neither of them has said anything in the ten minutes since they’ve sat down. Jake buries his nose into the menu, hoping that he looks occupied enough with choosing an entrée to excuse the heavy silence that has settled over the table. A few feet away, in the other side of the booth, Amy does the same thing.
A young man in a pressed suit and tie approaches their table, a small, nervous smile on his face. “Are you all ready to order?”
“Yes!” Amy nearly leaps at the chance to talk to someone who is not Jake. Jake tries not to feel too hurt by the desperate excitement in her voice. “I’ll take the chicken piccata, please.”
Jake lingers around the chicken parmesan but ends up going with a steak, because he’s determined to show Amy and maybe himself that he can eat like an adult. They pass their silk-embossed menus to the waiter, sip their waters, and suddenly it’s too quiet again.
“You got a haircut,” Jake notices, wringing his hands nervously under the table.
“It looks nice.”
“Thanks.”
There is a beat of silence that stretches just a little too long, and then Jake says, “This is awkward.”
Amy chokes out a laugh. “Yeah.”
Another moment passes. Jake swallows the non-existent saliva in his mouth. Their waiter, mercifully, returns with their food a few minutes later. Jake doesn’t want him to leave. He does, of course, and then they’re left in that terrible silence again.
Jake makes it through half his steak before speaking again. “Should we, um, just get really drunk?”
Amy grimaces, reaching for her water. “I don’t think so.” Her voice is quiet, almost defeated. “If we can’t do this sober, what’s the point?”
Something twists uncomfortably in Jake’s stomach, but he stabs his fork into his a piece of broccoli anyway. - It’s the day after their first date, and Amy asks for a transfer.
Jake learns about this through a wail from the evidence lockup that he hears from a good twenty yards away. He bursts through the door, frantic, to find Charles curled in a ball on the ground, rocking back and forth.
Charles gets out the details in between sobs, or at least enough details that Jake gets most of the picture. Amy put in a transfer to Chicago, it’s been granted on account of an emergency vacancy that needs to be filled, and she has three days left at the Nine-Nine.
“Three days,” Charles gasps, tears streaming out of his eyes. “Three days, you have to convince her to stay, Jake, you have to—”
“Hold on,” Jake says desperately, watching Charles dab at his face with a completely saturated tissue. “Let me get you another box of Kleenex.”
He opens the door to leave and runs straight into the source of Charles’s despair, in the flesh.
“Oh,” says Amy.
Jake closes the door behind him before Charles can see her and have a heart attack, then crosses his arms. “Is it true? Are you leaving?”
Amy has the grace to look self-conscious, shuffling her feet and shoving her hands in her pockets. She nods, and Jake feels strangely like the walls are swimming around him.
It just makes sense, she says. She has family there, and New York is too crowded, too expensive, and maybe Chicago is a better place to live anyway.
“Is this because of me?” Jake demands. “Because of…you know…our date?”
“No, of course not.” She doesn’t look at him as she says it.
Jake scoffs before stalking past her into the bullpen, ignoring her half-hearted call of his name. He blinks back the hot, furious tears forming in his eyes, and internally he starts a calendar. - On Day One, Jake calls in sick to work.
He responds to the “r u ok??” texts from Charles, Rosa, Gina, and Terry with a copy-and-pasted “I’m ok. Just feeling gross.” He ignores the ones that mention Amy. He also pretends like he doesn’t notice that Amy hasn’t sent him anything.
The morning is spent mindlessly scrolling through his social media beneath his blankets, with no regard for time or his grumbling stomach.
At noon, Charles posts a picture of the squad from Halloween with the caption “Gonna miss my favorite Halloween-hater. #SayonaraSantiago.” Jake decides he’s had enough Instagram for the day and finally hauls himself out of bed.
He orders a pizza, then turns his phone off and the TV on. Inadvertently, the pizza becomes both lunch and dinner and one Die Hard movie becomes a marathon—and before he knows it, the sky outside his apartment is dark.
“Well, that was productive,” Jake mutters, brushing the pizza crumbs off his lap before standing up to toss his trash into the garbage.
On Day Two, they aren’t talking to each other.
Amy looks up almost timidly as he walks out of the elevator, then waits until he reached his desk to let out a small, hesitant “Hi.”
Jake grabs the file waiting for him on his desk and walks out of the bullpen without looking at her.
So, strictly speaking, this is mostly his fault.
That fact does not do anything to quell the mixture of anger and hurt writhing in his stomach. He spends the day furiously completing paperwork in an empty interrogation room, jabbing his pen so furiously into the paper that he rips a hole in an I-918 and has to start over.
At noon, Rosa stops by with a turkey sub, which she drops wordlessly on the desk in front of him before sliding back out the door.
At five, he has completed more paperwork than he has in the last month combined. He drops the stack of files on Terry’s desk, forces a smile, and says, “Finally caught up on all those forms you’ve been hounding me about.”
Terry, his eyes piercing and slightly concerned, does not laugh. “Dismissed.”
It’s Day Three, and Holt has had enough.
He assigns Jake and Amy to label evidence in the lockup together, much to Jake’s chagrin. Amy turns and speeds off without a word. Jake turns towards Holt with a big, reproachful protest on the tip of his tongue but is cut off by Holt’s raised eyebrows and stern expression.
“Peralta, you need to get over yourself.”
“What?”
“You need to get over yourself,” Holt repeats. “Your partner of six years is leaving tomorrow, and you haven’t spoken to her in three days.”
Jake snorts, crossing his arms defensively. “Yeah, well, she’s leaving because of me, so—”
“I’m not sure that matters,” Holt says, not unkindly. “If you let her leave like this, you might never get the chance to talk to her again.”
Jake stares at the ground, furiously attempting to dig a hole in the ground with his toe.
“I know you don’t want this to be the way things end.” Holt’s voice is gentle, and Jake can’t bring himself to look up. “It would be unwise to let your pride get in the way of your last chance to save your friendship.”
“Whatever,” Jake mutters irritably, but something uncomfortable has begun to form in his gut. “Gimme that Sharpie so I can go write case numbers on a bunch of ziplock bags.”
Jake does not, in fact, get over himself—at least not for the first few hours. He chooses to instead label evidence in the same furious silence that has occupied his past three days, pretending he doesn’t see the furtive, almost timid glances Amy throws his way every few minutes.
Then he walks to a bodega for lunch and realizes mid-chew that this is Amy’s last lunch at the Nine-Nine, and the uncomfortable thing in his stomach grows a lot bigger.
He finally swallows his pride on his walk back to the precinct, and when he re-enters the evidence lockup the thing in his stomach has started feeling a lot more like guilt.
Amy walks in a few minutes after him, tossing a balled-up sandwich wrapper into the trash, and notices that he’s watching her. “You have something to say to me?”
“Yeah, actually,” Jake says quickly. “I do.”
She crosses her arms and narrows her eyes, and Jake’s heart sinks a little.
“I—uh—I’m sorry,” Jake says. “For how I reacted, and for icing you out the past few days. It was immature of me, and stupid, and I should’ve been an adult about it, but—well, I guess we both know I suck at that sometimes.”
Amy snorts, but her expression has softened slightly. “Thank you.”
“And I’m gonna make it up to you,” Jake continues, almost determinedly. “We’re gonna make this the best day you’ve ever had at the Nine-Nine.”
Amy laughs slightly. “I don’t think that’s possible, given the amount of work we have left.”
“Who cares?” Jake shrugs. “The best part of work has always been the people anyway.”
And for all the organizational skills Jake may lack, he sure knows how to delegate. All it takes is a couple text messages to a new, Amy-less precinct group chat and the rest of the Nine-Nine is off. Gina cashes in on a favor and gets Shaw’s to close its doors for the evening. Rosa makes a last-minute motorcycle trip to a local party store and uses a sizable amount of cash and her surprising aesthetic skill to acquire a large box of decorations. Charles says, “leave the food to me,” and no one is brave enough to question him about it.
Jake stays with Amy on the floor of the evidence lockup. They talk and laugh as they work, reminiscing about their years at the Nine-Nine and the particularly memorable perps they’ve brought in.
There’s also a supercut of the stuff that wasn’t work at all—the precinct parties, Charles saving Thanksgiving, the Boyle-Linetti wedding. There are the Halloween heists, the Jimmy Jabs, and there’s the Bet, with a capital B. Neither of them mentions the last one, but Jake is definitely thinking about it.
“Remember that time Terry tried to do the full bullpen and almost knocked a tooth out?” Amy asks, grinning widely. “I thought Sharon was gonna pull him out of the force immediately.”
“You have no faith,” Jake says, shaking his head. “I knew she’d let him stay.”
“You did not.” Amy points at him, narrowing her eyes. “You were so scared when she came to pick him up.”
“I was not—”
“So scared. I’ve never seen a grown man visibly tremble like that, but—”
“God, shut up.” Jake throws a balled-up piece of tape at her, and she laughs. It’s a real one, this time, one that’s bright and infectious.
They let it fade into a gentle silence, one that’s more comfortable than the ones of the past few days.
There’s a beat, and then Jake says, “Don’t go to Chicago.”
He expects Amy to be surprised by this change of subject—to recoil and give an affronted, “what?”
Instead, she sighs, long and slow, and closes the manila folder in front of her. “Jake—”
“I mean, I know it’s your decision, and I respect that,” Jake says quickly. “And if you truly meant what you said to me earlier, about how it’s important to be near your family and it’s a better place for you to live and you’ve grown out of New York—if that’s really the reason you’re leaving, then that’s fine. Just tell me, and I’ll shut up about it and we can just have a big blowout goodbye party and you can leave.”
Amy picks at the edge of her boot and says nothing.
“But if it’s not—if you’re leaving because of what happened on our date—I don’t want to be the reason you give this up, Amy. I know how much you love it here, and this place loves you too. Captain Holt is a phenomenal mentor to you, we both know that, and you might not get that in Chicago—you’ve done so much good work here that I know you’re proud of, and I can’t be the reason you don’t have that anymore.”
Amy looks at him, her eyes a stormy mix of unreadable emotions, but still doesn’t say anything.
“Look,” Jake says, splaying out his hands in front of him. “That date was kind of a disaster, we both know that. And I think it’s because we were both trying too hard, because we cared too much. Because we’re friends, Amy, and that’s what’s most important to me.”
He takes a deep breath, then says, “I don’t care if we never date. I don’t care if I never get to hug you, or kiss you, or do any of the things I’ve so desperately wanted to do. I just can’t lose your friendship. You’re the best partner I’ve ever had, and an even better friend, and I would be more than happy to just be friends with you for the rest of my life. God knows it’s more than I deserve.”
“You deserve plenty,” Amy says softly.
Jake swallows the way that makes his chest flutter. “I’m just saying—I’m laying my cards all out on the table, here. I want you to stay, and I respect it if you don’t want that. But please don’t let me be the reason for you leaving.”
There’s a beat of silence, and then Amy gives him a small, wistful smile that says everything Jake needs to hear.
“Okay,” he says, taking a deep breath and wiping his hands on his jeans. “Party at Shaw’s it is, then.”
Amy slaps the last label on a duffle bag, checks her watch, and stands. “I’m actually taking off early—I need to clear up some stuff at City Hall before I leave. I’ll meet you there?”
“Oh,” Jake says, a little dumbfounded.
Amy notices his expression and shakes her head quickly. “No, it’s not—I mean, this has been settled for days, Holt knows, I was always leaving at three today. So it’s not, like, spontaneous, you know. I would’ve told you earlier, but—"
“I was being an ass. Yeah.”
Amy gives him that little sad smile again, and Jake wants to kick a wall. “I’ll see you at the bar,” she says, almost gently.
Jake forces a smile and nods. “Yeah. Looking forward to it.” - When he pushes through the doors of his favorite bar a few hours later, Jake is expecting loud music, streamers, and—if Gina’s Instagram stories were credible—possibly Mario Lopez. Instead, the bar is completely empty.
There are no balloons, no decorations—the only set table is in the middle of the floor, and on it sits a pizza, two salads, and two glasses of water.
“What—what is this?” Jake mutters, mostly to himself.
“A dinner between two friends,” Amy says, emerging from behind the bar. She gives him a small, slightly nervous smile. “And if it goes well, a second date.”
Jake blinks.
“You were right,” Amy tells him, carrying a bottle of wine and two wine glasses to the table. “Our friendship is the most important thing, here, and it means a lot to both of us. I mean, that’s why we were trying so hard in the first place, right? Neither of us wanted it to fail.”
Jake nods in silent assent, not trusting whatever his mouth would say if he let it.
“But it did fail. Miserably.”
“Uh-huh,” Jake says, somewhat stupidly.
“So the worst thing that could happen has already happened, and we’ve gotten through it. And I think—I think, now, having gone through the past few days, we know enough to give it another shot. As long as we set very clear boundaries.”
“Boundaries,” Jake repeats. “Boundaries are good.”
“Yeah,” says Amy with a slightly amused smile. “So, we’re friends. Really good friends. And that’s what we have to protect, above anything. So this is not necessarily a date. It’s a dinner, and we’re a pair of very good friends who are gonna eat it. And if we want to, afterwards, we can decide to call it a date.”
“Can you do that?” Jake asks. “Label something a date after it’s already happened?”
“Who cares?” Amy smirks. “Since when have you followed rules?”
Jake swallows and shrugs.
“Anyway, if it’s awkward, or weird, then we move past it. It’s a slightly awkward moment between friends that doesn’t have to mean anything. No more silent treatment, no more rash decisions, just two friends who are still friends afterwards. Got it?”
“Afterwards,” Jake says slowly. “So—Chicago—”
“Yeah, I’m not going,” Amy says, her eyes sparkling. “That was a dumb thing I did to avoid this guy I went on a terrible date with.”
A broad grin starts to make its way across Jake’s face. “He sounds like he sucks.”
Amy laughs, then pulls out a chair and points at it. “So—pizza?”
The grin on Jake’s face softens into something smaller, something gentler. “Definitely.”
They each take a slice, then a bite, and Jake will never admit it—but it’s the best Meat Supreme he’s ever tasted.
