A/N: I loved this so much that I might consider making this into a universe....
Not many people knew but Kelly Severide was a foster parent. He had been since he turned the legal age to become one. He's had kids of all different ages come and go but none of them stayed, it seemed like once they got there, they were gone. He tried not to get attached but that never was the case especially with his newest foster kid, you, that had just begun to stay with him.
You had been bounced around from foster home to foster home and it really bummed you out. Once you got comfortable in one you were being pushed into another, whether it be that they didn't want to be foster parents anymore or they claimed you were too difficult or they were abusive. You weren't a difficult child, you weren't far from it, until you started being bounced around so you held your emotions back and started acting out.
You had been placed into foster care when you and your parents were in a car accident and it sadly took them away from you. You were the only one to have survived and you had no living grandparents and your aunt on your mom's side couldn't leave her busy life time as a lawyer to actually raise you, her job was more important than you. Your dad didn't have any siblings so that was out of the question so foster care it was. You loved your parents with all your heart and it hurt when you learned that they passed away. That was 4 years ago when you were 8 years old, now you're 12 years old. You just wanted a stable household.
Currently you are in the car being driven to your next foster home. Your social service worker, Zoey, was the one driving. You loved her and she loved you, she has kids of her own and you often asked if she could adopt you but she just gave you a sad smile and explained calmly why that couldn’t happen. She actually loved her job and she loved helping the kids. She felt so sympathetic for you after she heard your story. You were currently stopped at a stoplight and she looked over at you and saw that you were pouting and moody and she sighed this was to be expected. The last foster home practically kicked you out because they didn’t want to be foster parents anymore. “Y/N.” Zoey said in a caring soothing voice and you turned to look at her.
“Yea?” You asked
“This one is going to be different.” She said and you looked at her and rolled your eyes.
“You always say that.” You said and she smiled and moved one hand from the steering wheel and put her hand on yours.
“Yes, I know but this one is going to be so different.” She said and she turned her attention and hand back to the steering wheel as the light turned green.
“How?” You asked
“Well for one his name is Kelly Severide. He’s a firefighter and he loves kids.” She said as she pulled up to his house and it was nice. 2 story brick house with a truck parked outside a garage and a spacious front and backyard. He did have an apartment but when he started to foster, he figured he should invest in an actual house with a yard. You really liked the house. Zoey parked by Kell’s truck and killed the engine and turned to you. “Please give this one a try.” She said and you looked at her and nodded in agreement.
“Ok.” You said and she smiled and leaned over and hugged you. When she released you the both of you got out and you both grabbed your bags and headed to the front door. Zoey rang the doorbell and you stood there with your head down. After a minute the door opened to reveal a nice-looking man, he looked so kind and looked like he cared for everyone.
“Hi.” He said
“Hi, I’m Zoey. We talked on the phone.” Zoey said and he smiled and nodded and this, she said pointing to you, “This is Y/N.” Zoey said and you looked up and he smiled and you actually felt safe with him.
“Hi, I’m Kelly.” He said with a kind voice and you smiled but didn’t say anything and he didn’t push. He stood back from the door and you both walked in. Once in he shut the door and you all walked into the living room and sat down on the couch and he in a chair. “So what hobbies are you into?” He asked looking at you and you looked up at him, that was new, you looked at Zoey and she gave you a nod and an encouraging nod. You turned to look at the man.
“I like taking pictures, hiking, reading, and helping people out, I used to do it with-.” You said but trailed off.
“Hey it’s ok.” He said
“With my parents.” You said and he smiled and nodded.
“Do you play any sports?” He asked and you nodded eagerly.
“Soccer and softball are my favorites and I love playing them.” You said and he smiled.
“I used to play baseball when I was younger.” Kelly said and you looked at him.
“Really?” You asked and he nodded.
“Any foods you dislike or allergic to?” He asked and you thought about it and turned to Zoey for help.
“She’s allergic to nuts and shellfish.” Zoey said as she handed him a file, one you’re used to. He nodded.
“I don’t like most fish but that is probably because I never found one, I liked or it wasn’t cooked right.” You said trying to remember “I’m not really picky.” You said and he nodded and smiled.
“Anything you absolutely love?” He asked
“Sushi, as long as there is no shellfish, pizza, steak, love steak, and the list goes on.” You said with a smile.
“Why don’t I show you your new room and let you settle in while Zoey and I talk?” He asked and you nodded and you all stood and before Zoey or you could grab your bags, he grabbed them all in one go, the other foster homes would’ve made you carry them on your own. You walked up the stairs and two doors down he opened it. “We can paint it whatever color you want and decorate it however you want.” He said and you looked up at him.
“Really?” You asked shocked and he nodded and you ran to hug him. Something that surprised him and Zoey but it wasn’t unwelcomed and he hugged you back. You released him and started unpacking some things.
“We’ll leave you to it.” He said and he and Zoey walked away and back downstairs. “Anything else I need to know?” He asked once they were in the kitchen.
“Her birthday is Y/B/D, which is next month on a Saturday. Also, her parent’s death anniversary is coming up on Friday in 2 weeks, she usually gets moody and acts out during this time.” She said and she watched him take out his phone and program the dates in his phone, something she hadn’t seen any other foster family do before. Just then you came down smiling and they turned when they heard you and smiled.
“All unpacked?” Kelly asked and you nodded “Good. Tonight Firehouse 51 is having a cookout and everyone is looking forward to meeting you and you’re going to love them. They're all just children inside adult bodies.” He said and everyone chuckled.
“With that said I should be going.” Zoey said and you frowned and walked over and hugged her and then quickly released her. She looked at the both of you. “You both have my numbers so don’t hesitate to call day or night.” She and you both nodded. She gave you one more hug and then hugged Kelly and you both walked her to the door and she turned to you both again and mainly spoke to Kelly. “I’ll be back soon to see how everything is going.” She said and you looked at her.
“Will you be here for my birthday?” You asked and she smiled and looked at you.
“Of course, as long as it is ok with Mr. Severide.” She said and you looked at him and he looked at you as you gave him a puppy dog eyed look and he smiled.
“Of course it is ok with me. Also please call me Kelly. Mr. Severide was my father.” He said looking at Zoey and she smiled.
“Of course, Kelly. Well, I better be off. Y/N be good for Kelly and do everything he asks. Ok?” She asked and you nodded. She smiled and then she turned towards the door and opened it and walked out. You and Kelly watched her get in her car and back out she waved and you both waved back and then she was on the street driving away. Kelly turned to look at you.
“So, what do you want to do first?” He asked
“Can you help me rearrange my bedroom?” You asked shyly and he smiled and nodded.
“Of course. Let’s go. We have some time before we have to be at the cookout.” He said as he and you walked back into the house and he shut the door and you both headed upstairs to your room. The both of you had spent time rearranging your bedroom and helped you hang stuff that you wanted hung. Kelly looked at his watch and he smiled and then looked up at you. “Why don’t you go and freshen up and then we can start heading our way to the cookout.” He said and you smiled and nodded at him. “I’ll be downstairs if you need me.” He said and you nodded and gave him a smile. You looked at yourself in the mirror and decided that you desperately needed a shower so you grabbed your clothes. You were quick to take your shower and get changed quickly and headed downstairs, something that was trained in you from bouncing from foster home to foster home and you hated it.
“I’m ready.” You said when you joined Kelly in the kitchen and he turned and smiled.
“That was fast.” He said and you nodded and smiled sadly at him.
“Yea, my other foster homes made us take timed showers…” You said and trailed off not looking at him and that broke his heart. He walked over to you and lifted your head up gently.
“Hey, look at me.” He said and you did and you saw him smiling at you “You can take your time here. I want you to enjoy your time here. My home is your home.” He said and you nodded and he smiled and let go of your face and pulled you into a hug.
“Thank you, Kelly.” You said into his chest and he hugged you just a little bit tighter and kissed your head.
“Anytime kid.” He said into your hair. The two of you broke apart and he nodded and then grabbed his keys and the two of you were off heading to his truck. You started to get in the back but he was quick to shut the door and you looked up at him “You sit up front.” He said and you looked at him surprised, when you were at the other foster homes, they made you sit in the back no matter what. Zoey always had to tell you to sit up front as well.
“Really?” You asked and he smiled and nodded and then you went around the truck and opened the passenger side door and climbed in and settled in like you were meant to be there. He got on the driver’s side and started the engine. You wanted to turn the radio on but was hesitant and he saw this.
“You can turn it on if you want and listen to whatever you want.” He said and again you looked at him surprised, you got yelled at if you tried to turn on the radio and listen to whatever you wanted. You smiled and were quick to turn on the radio and turn it to a country station. “Country is a favorite of mine.” He said and you looked at him with all the love in the world and he loved that he smiled and then put the truck into reverse and started to head to Herrmann’s place.
“Have you always wanted to be a firefighter?” You asked shyly now second guessing if you should have said anything “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything.” You said after a minute of silence and he shook his head.
“Hey, no. I love when you ask questions, ask away. To answer your question, yes, I have.” He said and your eyes widened.
“That is so cool. I have so much respect for cops, firefighters, EMTs, and doctors. They saved my life and tried to save my parent’s life too.” You said and then got quiet and he was quick to notice that.
“You’re allowed to talk about them and to them. It helps with grieving.” He said again you were practically shut down when you started to talk about your parents. “I’m not trying to replace them and I want you to know that.” He said and you looked at him with tears in your eyes and he looked over at you when he was stopped at a stoplight and he smiled softly at you.
“Really?” You asked in a watery whisper.
“Really, Kiddo.” He said and then you hugged him the best you could.
“Thank you.” You said and he smiled and kissed your head.
“Anytime, Kiddo. Anytime.” He said and then he turned his attention back to the road as the light turned green.
“What is the rest of the firehouse like?” You asked curious.
“They're goofy. Easy to get along with. We have several females on the team so you will most definitely not feel left out.” He said turning into a neighborhood. You nodded taking the information in.
“Are you seeing anyone?” You asked genuinely curious.
“No, I'm not.” He said and you knew he was hiding something.
“Do you like one of the girls?” You asked and he stayed quiet and he was blushing?
“No.” He said in a higher pitched voice.
“You do! You totally do!” You said and he blushed even harder.
“Oh, look we're here!” He said trying to end the conversation as he parked and killed the engine.
“I'm gonna find out who.” You said with a mischievous grin and he looked over and smiled.
“No, you won't.” He said
“Yes, I will.” You said and then got out of the truck and him following your lead. He already loved you; you were perfect and fun to get along with. Kelly was quick to catch up to you and he knocked on the door and after a minute it was opened and a man was standing in the doorway.
“Kelly! Welcome!” He said and then turned to you. “Hi, I'm Christopher Herrmann and you must be Y/N.” He said and you looked down shyly and nodded.
“Hi.” You said and he smiled.
“Come on, give me a hug. You're family now.” Christopher said and pulled you into a hug which you shyly hugged back and then you two broke apart. “Get in here! Stella and the girls are dying to meet you.” He said and turned and you looked at Kelly. You were smiling when Stella’s name was mentioned and you smirked and he looked down at you.
“What?” He asked, “Stop looking at me like that.” He said and you shook your head as he started walking in and you followed suit.
“I'm closer to figuring it out. I already have a name.” You said and he turned to you.
“Don't you say anything.” He said pointing at you but you knew he was being playful.
“My lips are sealed.” You said making the motion and smirking. He shook his head and smiled; he really did like you. You followed him out to the backyard where a lot more people were and you started to get overwhelmed and stopped and he took notice of this especially when you stopped in the doorway.
“Hey,” He said, turning to you and getting serious and getting down to your level “if you start getting overwhelmed or want to go home, just tell me and we'll sort it out or go home. You're in control here.” He said and you nodded and he smiled and stood up and you clung to him. You liked Kelly a lot, he was so different from the last foster homes. You wanted to stay with him forever.
Kelly walked over to someone with you in tow. One of the girls saw him and smiled “Kelly!” She yelled out and hugged him and he hugged back and then they released each other.
“Gabriela, this is Y/N. Y/N this is Gabriela Dawson she is a paramedic on Ambulance 61.” Kelly said and you shyly waved at her and she practically squealed with excitement.
“Kelly has nonstop talked about you and how excited he was. You’re gonna love it here and you’re gonna love it with him.” She said and hugged you and you hesitantly hugged her back.
“It’s nice to meet you.” You said when she released you.
“Come on, the others are dying to meet you!” She said and started ushering you and Kelly to the others. You arrived over to the group and Kelly greeted everyone and then he started to let them introduce themselves to you and you back to them. There were a lot of people and you were overwhelmed at first but throughout the cookout and playing games you slowly started to detach yourself from Kelly and started to hang out with more and more people. Kelly took note of this and was really happy at what he was seeing. One person seemed to be missing in the group and you saw Kelly looking around until you heard a female voice sound from near the house.
“Sorry, I’m late. I had some things that absolutely needed to get done.” She said and you saw Kelly light up like a Christmas tree, so this must be Stella you thought to yourself and smirked you figured it out.
“That’s ok. Herrmann just now started to cook.” Kelly said and hugged her “Oh! I want you to meet someone. Y/N!” He shouted and waved you over and you made your way over after excusing yourself. “Stella meet Y/N. Y/N this is Stella Kidd.” He said and he saw you smile and wave at her and she smiled back.
“Nice to meet you, Kelly has told me so much about you!” She exclaimed and hugged you and you hugged back and then looked at him with a smirk on your face and he knew that you knew that she was the one he liked.
“It’s nice to meet you too. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about you from Kelly and the others.” You said and she smiled and then she was being called over to someone else and you looked at Kelly.
“Don’t.” He said and you smirked.
“Don’t what?” You asked, still smirking “Now I know who she is. This is gonna be fun.” You said and walked away to join Stella, Sylvie, and Gabriela. Occasionally you would look up at Kelly and smile sweetly at him but he knew what you were doing and he would just smile and shake his head. It was like you really were his kid.
A few hours later and the cookout was dwindling and you were spent and ready to go home. You made your rounds of bidding everyone that was still there a goodbye and then you were walking back to Kelly’s truck and hopped into the passenger side seat. You let out a sigh and relaxed into the seat. “Did you have a good time?” He asked as he turned the engine over and reversed the truck and you nodded.
“A really good time. Everyone is so nice. It was refreshing.” You said and let your eyes slip closed just now feeling how exhausted you were. Kelly put the truck in drive once he was on the road and looked over at you.
“I’m glad you had a good time. Everyone really liked you.” He said and you smiled and cracked your eyes open at him and then let them shut again and you were out before he even started to move. He turned the radio down and started heading home. It didn't take you both to be home, Kelly pulled into the driveway and killed the engine and looked over at you still sleeping away and he smiled. He got out and walked over to the passenger side door and carefully opened it. He undid your seatbelt and took you in his arms and carried you to the house and inside. He quietly shut the door and carried you upstairs to your room, he gently laid you down and took your shoes off and covered you up and made sure you were comfortable and headed out of your room and to the kitchen. It was late when you both got home so he understood why you had fallen asleep. He tidied everything up and then went upstairs and checked on you one more time and got ready for bed himself and in no time, he was asleep with a smile on his face. He was so lucky to have in his life, he knew you were it for him. He even is having thoughts about adopting you and that was rare for him but you just completed him.
The next morning you woke up confused but well rested. You yawned and stretched and then you smelt something that made your mouth water and that had you getting up but not before you changed out of your jeans and into sweats and threw on a hoodie. You walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where Kelly turned when he heard you. “Good morning. Sleep well?” He asked and you nodded.
“I did. Thank you for carrying me in last night.” You said and he smiled at you.
“You were sleeping well; no way was I going to wake you up. I’m strong enough to carry someone.” He said chuckling and that made you chuckle.
“Can I help with anything?” You asked, he shook his head.
“Nope not unless you want to but you’re not obligated to.” He said and you nodded. “You can just sit tight and breakfast will be ready, now.” He said as he turned off the stove and put pancakes and bacon on a plate and walked it over to the table. “Dig in.” He said and smiled and that is what you did. His cooking was delicious, more delicious than the other foster homes you’ve been in.
“This is so good.” You said taking another bite.
“Thank you. I’m so glad you liked it. Just wait until you have food at the firehouse, you’ll fall in love.” He said and you smiled at him.
“I’m so looking forward to it.” You said and he smiled and took a bite of this food.
You really loved it here. Zoey was right, this foster home was different and you were going to give him a chance.
——————————————————————
Throughout the two weeks that you were there you met a lot of people and you had fallen in love with each and every one of them. It was Friday the day your parents had passed away and it was hitting you hard to the point where you were acting out against Kelly but he never once got frustrated with you or threatened to send you back, he was patient with you.
One day you had left school during lunch, you had started school the week before after being signed up by Zoey. Everything was too much and everything was too much, you were a bright intelligent girl and you loved school but you just needed away. You were also quick to make friends, two that you made friends with were named Sam and his boyfriend Cooper. You also made friends with a girl named Aubrey. They saw your look and became worried. “Everything ok, Y/N/N?” Sam asked and you looked at him and shook your head.
“No, today is just a good day.” You said hoping to leave it at that and they sensed that. “Hey I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” You said easily and they nodded and you headed out but instead of heading towards the bathroom you steered towards the entrance of the school and since you were allowed to eat outside nobody thought anything of it. You were quick to take off school grounds and headed your way to the park, thankfully you were from Chicago and knew your way around. Once at the park you sat on a bench with your knees up. Tears slowly started to spill out of your eyes. “Why? Why did you have to leave me?” You asked nobody in particular.
Back at the school lunch had ended and classes resumed but you were nowhere in sight and this worried the teachers and they had called the front office and they were quick to call Kelly.
——————————————————————
Kelly and Stella were confused when they heard his phone ring, he had his ringer on in case it was your school trying to reach him. It rang twice before he picked up.
“Kelly Severide?” Olivia, the front desk receptionist asked.
“This is he.” He answered “Is everything ok?” He asked if he looked at Stella and she could see the panic on his face.
“This is Olivia from Chicago Middle School. We have been notified that your daughter has not been seen since lunch.” Olivia said and his blood ran cold.
“Thank you for letting me know.” He said not really knowing what to say.
“You’re welcome Mr. Severide.” She said and then they hung up the phone and he just stared ahead and then his mind began to race.
“Everything ok?” Stella asked concerned.
“Y/N isn’t at school. Nobody has seen her since lunch.” Kelly said. What if something happened to you? What if you were in danger and needed him? “I need to call Jay.” He said just then his phone rang and he looked at it and saw that it was Jay.
“Jay.” He said “Y/N isn’t at school.” He started to panic.
“I know.” Jay said
“What if something happened? What if she needs medical assistance? What if- wait, how do you know?” He asked just now, hearing what he had said.
“She’s with me. I was on patrol with Hailey looking for someone and found her sitting on a bench in the park. She looked upset.” Jay said and then it hit Kelly.
“It’s the day her parents died. Zoey warned me she would be acting out. Where are you now?” He asked
“Still at the park. She’s in the truck with Hailey in the heat.” Jay said and Kelly nodded.
“Don’t move. I’ll be there soon.” Kelly said
“You got it.” Jay said and they hung up.
Kelly was so relieved; you were with someone he trusted and hopefully you trusted. He sat there for a few minutes. “Jay and Hailey are with her.” He said to Stella and she looked relieved.
“Oh, thank goodness. Go.” She said after she saw him just sitting there and then he got up and went to Boden and told him what was going on and he was quick to give him the keys to the truck and he was on his way to you.
——————————————————————
You were sitting there thinking about how stupid it was that you didn’t contact anyone especially Kelly and you were regretting it but you didn’t move. “Y/N?” You heard someone call your name and you turned around and saw that it was Jay Halstead, a friend of Kelly’s and you really liked him.
“Jay.” You said and turned back around as he came and sat next to you.
“What are you doing out here kid?” He asked
“I walked out of school.” You said not looking at him.
“Why did you do that?” He asked
“I just got overwhelmed. I couldn’t take it. It’s not a good day.” You said and he nodded.
“Why don’t you come back to the truck? Get out of this cold.” He said and you nodded and you let him lead the way. When you got to the truck, he opened the back door and you got in and then noticed Hailey. “Stay here and I’m gonna call Kelly.” He said and you and Hailey nodded.
“Everything ok, Sweetheart?” Hailey asked looking back at you and you shook your head and she left it at that not pushing and you appreciated that. “If you need anything you can come and talk to any of us.” She said and you nodded. Just then Jay opened the driver’s side door and got in.
“Kelly will be here in a few minutes.” He said looking at you and you nodded. Small talk was made and then they started talking about the case and this got you interested.
“Have you thought about why he has been staying around this area?” You asked and they turned to look at you.
“No, we haven’t. What are you thinking?” He asked
“Maybe he has a family here and doesn’t want to leave them although the girlfriend or ex-wife doesn’t want him around and has moved on. Maybe he is killing for revenge.” You said with a shrug of your shoulders and they stared at you.
“We never thought about that. We’ll definitely have to look into it.” He said and then he saw the chief fire truck roll up and Kelly got out and you were quick to get out and run to him.
“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry that I ran away from school. I’ll never do it again. Please don’t hit me.” You said and pleaded and that broke Kelly’s heart.
“I’m not going to hit you. I just want to know why you ran away from school.” He said and kissed your head. You looked up at him from your hugging position and he looked down at you.
“I just got overwhelmed. I couldn’t take it anymore so I left.” You told him and he nodded. He looked up at Jay and Hailey and nodded and Jay flashed his police lights at you both and they were gone.
“Come on. I wanna take you somewhere.” He said and you nodded sniffling. He led you to the truck and you got in and so did he and started to drive. You were confused.
“Where are we going?” You asked
“You’ll see.” He said and you nodded. 5 minutes later he was pulling into the cemetery and he drove around until he got to the spot where he wanted to be. You realized where you were, you were at your parent’s grave. He stopped the truck and put it into park and turned to you.
“Kelly?” You asked with a watery voice and he smiled at you and nodded and you got out and went to them and he was soon following.
“You can come and visit them anytime you would like. Just tell me and we’ll find a time to come.” He said and you started bawling and hugged him.
“Thank you so much. This means so much to me.” You said and he smiled and hugged you back and kissed your head. “Stay as long as you want.” He said and you nodded and then he walked back to the truck and got in leaving you alone and you turned towards the graves.
“Hi mom and dad. I miss you so much. It’s been tough not having you here but I think I found a really great foster home this time. You would really like him. He’s a firefighter and he loves kids. I really like him. He reminds me so much of you dad. I wanna call him dad but I don’t want to feel like I’m replacing you dad. I know it sounds silly.” You said you felt like someone was touching your cheek almost like telling you it’s ok, you shivered “I really hate to cut this short but I’m starting to get cold. I promised to come back and talk to you soon. I love you both.” You added and kissed the headstone. You turned back towards the truck and got in and Kelly turned to look at you.
“You, ok?” He asked and you smiled and nodded.
“Thank you. Nobody has done that for me before.” You said and he smiled.
“Like I said, anytime you want to come out here just tell me.” He said and you nodded “I also called the school and explained everything. You’re coming back to the firehouse with me.” He added and you nodded.
“I’m sorry for doing this to you.” You said and he smiled and ran his fingers through your hair.
“Just please don’t do it again. Next time, call me.” He said and you nodded your head.
“I will.” You said and he smiled.
“Good now let’s go.” He said and headed back towards the firehouse.
Kelly was definitely different and you loved him for that. He didn’t try to push you into anything and he took time to listen to you. You didn’t want to leave him. Ever.
——————————————————————
A month has passed and you and Kelly have truly bonded unbeknownst to you he and Zoey have been talking about him adopting you. Everything was falling into place and he was really happy about it. He had several people back him that he would be a great father to you. He couldn’t wait to give you the news on your birthday as a birthday present.
Y/B/D had finally rolled around and you were excited you had planned for your friends and their parents, Firehouse 51 and families, Intelligence and families including Will, Connor, Zoey, and few others were there. The party was going to be held at Kelly’s house. It was time for the party to start and everyone had shown up and the party was in full swing. There was chit chat around everywhere and everyone had brought presents for you. Everyone was wishing you a happy birthday and all the kids went and played together.
As the night went on you were smiling and having a blast. Food was eaten and then it came time for cake and presents. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to you and you blushed embarrassed and then you blew out the candles. “What did you wish for?” Connor asked and you looked at him.
“If I tell you then it wouldn’t come true.” You said with a smirk and everyone laughed.
“You got me there.” He said and then you started to open presents and you got a lot and you loved every single one of them. You expressed this to everyone. Kelly had gotten you a lot. You looked at him and he looked nervous.
“I have one last gift for you. Y/N when you came into my life a month ago, I knew you were the one I wanted to keep and call my daughter, you complete me. You have been such a great kid and love that about you. Sure, you have had your days but what teenager doesn’t?” He said and everyone laughed and you smiled. “Zoey and I have been in contact with each other over this past month and we finally got confirmation that everything is a go. So, Y/N if it is ok with you, I would like to adopt you and officially call you, my daughter.” He said and handed you an envelope that had the words ‘ADOPTION’. You opened it and pulled out the papers and tears sprung to your eyes and you looked at him and then Zoey and she nodded. “So, what do you say? Is it ok?” He asked, still looking nervous and everyone was waiting for you to answer, you put the papers down and then practically lunged at him and hugged him.
“1000% it is ok.” You said tears falling and soaking his shirt and he smiled and hugged you back and kissed your head.
“I love you kiddo.” He said into your hair.
“I love you too, Dad.” You said and you could’ve sworn you felt tears falling into your hair and then everyone was clapping and hollering. You two broke apart and looked at everyone.
“Here’s to the now Y/N Severide!” Herrmann announced and everyone took a drink and you laughed and snuggled into Kelly and he wrapped his arms around you tighter. This was officially the best day of your life. The night went on and you barely broke away from Kelly’s, now your dad, side.
When everyone left you helped clean up and then you both headed off to bed. “I’ll come check on you in a few minutes.” He said and you nodded and headed upstairs and got ready for bed and laid down just as soon as Kelly came in. He sat down on your bed.
“I had a really great time tonight. Thank you so much, nobody has ever done something like this for me before or even taken me to see my parents. Yet alone give me the option to go and see them whenever I want.” You said and he smiled.
“Anything for my best girl.” He said and you smiled “Now you get a good night’s rest and we can do anything you want tomorrow.” He said and you nodded and he kissed your forehead.
“Oh, so how is it going with Stella?” You asked with a smirk and he blushed.
“Good night, Baby Girl.” He said
“Hey, we’re not done talking about this.” You said with a smile and a chuckle and he shook his head.
“I love you.” He said and then started to head out of your room.
“I love you too, Dad.” You said and he turned to you and smiled then turned over and fell asleep with a smile on your face.
Kelly walked out and shut the light off and shut the door. He stood there for a minute and let a few tears slip. He definitely made the right choice and he couldn’t be happier and neither could you. You both had each other and you both completed each other. Zoey was definitely right; this one was different and you would have to text her thanking her for giving you that push. Without her none of this would have happened.
You found a home in his heart.

Anyway we can get a part 2 to Grandchildren? Just a whole thing about how the Firehouse is with the reader throughout her pregnancy and the aftermath of her giving birth?
Warnings: Mentions of pregnancy and labour.
A/N: This was sent last year I'm pretty sure but I only just got it done today! Very sorry about that. This will probably be my last fic of the holiday before going back to full-time education and I'm highly sure I'll be so stressed that writing won't even be on my mind. But please bear with me and depending on time, I might be able to get some stuff out to suffice you all.
You weren’t too sure what to expect following your pregnancy announcement. There were two ways things could go but knowing your firehouse family, there was only one direction they would follow.
In the early months of your pregnancy, you were in the process of moving out your joint apartment with your fiancé and trying to find a place of your own. After an insistent Sylvie and your dad’s invitation to move back home, you moved into Sylvie’s apartment and became roommates with your paramedic partner.
Living with one of your best friends definitely helped everything. She was everything that you needed and more both on and off shift. It was hilarious how she was more useful then your ex who was the actual father of the babies you were carrying.
The twins were thriving. Every doctor's appointment, someone from the firehouse was attending with you and every time you were given only good news. But pregnancy was definitely hitting you hard with the morning sickness, incessant cravings, your unrelenting bladder and forever changing mood swings.
Work in itself was relatively fine disregarding the overprotective adults you worked with. If being Boden’s daughter wasn’t enough, then being pregnant with twins increased their naturally protective natures tenfold and you weren’t too sure how to feel about it. On one hand, you adored how much they loved and valued you and your unborn babies' lives, you would never take advantage of their love but on the other hand, it was so constant and sometimes quite extreme that a break away from them sounded like paradise.
But then you reached the six/seven-month mark and everything suddenly changed. Twenty-four-hour shifts became hell on earth. Now, you welcomed all their coddling, you could no longer do bare human necessities alone such as putting your shoes on – Sylvie helped you tie your boots up every morning – you couldn’t stand for too long, so you had someone help cook and take over for you, and the list goes on.
Giving birth, gosh that was a story in itself.
You were at home when your water broke. You decided against going to Molly’s and Sylvie stayed with you, both of you putting your feet up and relaxing with a cheesy romcom and the perfect snacks to go with it. Sylvie was in the bathroom while you were in the kitchen when it all happened.
It was nearly painless, your Braxton hicks hurt more surprisingly. It trickled down your leg, your shock rooting you in your place besides the sink. You’d been so silent that Sylvie came looking for you when you didn’t reply to her calling your name.
Her surprise was evident for mere seconds before the paramedic in her kicked in. You were surprised nothing in you moved into motion, you were a paramedic for goodness sakes, you dealt with these things all the time.
On the way to the hospital, you called your dad and step-mum Donna who immediately claimed they were on their way. This was happening way too fast for your liking; you knew premature twins were the norm, but you still couldn’t hide your concern.
You’d decided several months ago that since you had no partner to be in the room with you, Donna and Sylvie would be there with you instead and to say they were emotional when you broke the news to them was saying the least.
Seeing your stepmother already waiting for you at the hospital nearly made you break out into tears. You wanted to feel bad for making them leave Terrance home with a sitter but the next contraction made you shut up.
While Sylvie spoke to the nurse at the desk, your dad and Donna helped you up, holding your sides to help you walk into the labour and delivery ward where you would spend the next several hours of the night.
The pain only got worse the more time passed. You asked for an epidural, but an hour passed and then two and then Donna was demanding her daughter’s request be fulfilled. Donna’s anger could not be masked by anything but the tears filling your eyes from the tripling pain.
According to them, your labour was progressing too quick for an epidural. Your dad and Sylvie were struggling to hold back an absolutely livid Donna. Had your mind not been so hazy from the pain, you would’ve been supporting her anger.
Eventually, your midwife arrived causing you to nearly cry out in joy. She had been the most perfect angel who eventually forced your dad out the room. Chocking back a cry, you let him kiss your sweaty forehead, wishing you the bestest of luck and whispering his love for you in your ear before leaving. Your dad leaving you made you feel like a little kid again, his absence making you want to cry more.
Everything blurred together once you were dilated enough. You were squeezing the daylights out of Sylvie and Donna’s hands, guttural screams and sobs ripping out your throat when all of a sudden you felt a wave of relief wash over you.
Before you knew what was happening, a tiny little body was gently being placed on your chest and you were still crying.
“It’s a boy!” You faintly heard the doctor as you heart thundered in your ear, all your attention solely on the life you gave laying on your chest. The nurse was cleaning it with a towel and without a second to waste, you held his head with the lightest touch against you.
But then things started moving again, your first baby was taken for his first ever check-up and you were being told to start pushing again. You were barely able to concentrate, your mind still on your firstborn.
“Sylvie… please.”
Two words were all the blonde needed to leave your side and follow the baby that was practically her nephew.
Fourteen minutes later exactly, your daughter was born and you weren’t embarrassed to say you full on sobbed when they placed her on your chest.
“You did it Y/N. You did it honey, you were perfect.” Donna comforted you, pushing your sweaty hair back, watching you stare adoringly at your second born. “You did it mama.”
*****
When you got cleaned up and was informed of the clean bill of health your babies had, you were knocked out, Donna and Sylvie promising you they’d be awake for anything needed and they could tell the good news to the rest of the world.
Sylvie was talking to one of the nurses when Donna slipped out the room, walking into the waiting room that was empty when they arrived but was now filled with nervous family. They looked almost restless, it was apparent on their faces that as soon as morning came, they all came running.
Under their curious eyes, Donna didn’t stand a chance. “It’s a healthy boy and girl.”
And with that, the waiting room erupted into cheers.
With the nurse's permission, the firehouse broke into several groups to visit you and every group was as emotional as the next.
Your dad shed several tears seeing you and his grandchildren. He cried the most you’d ever seen him cry when you announced your baby boys full name. To top his reaction, you laughed and cried at the same time when you told Matt, Kelly and Sylvie the news you’d been wanting to tell them ever since you got pregnant.
The titles godparent made your three best friends more emotional than they would’ve wanted. Sylvie nearly crushed you in her hug when you told her your baby girls middle name.
Who would’ve thought having namesakes was this emotional?
They kept you another day for observations but after that, there was no reason for you to remain at the hospital any longer. So you were finally at home, with two new additions.
Two newborn babies were hard work. It took what felt like hundreds of sleepless nights, several cries of your own, feeding non-stop and the list went on.
And it was hard on your own. Most days, Sylvie had to go to work, leaving you on your own for an entire 24 hours but it would always be the biggest relief when she was off for the next 48.
And everyone was always offering their hands. You lost count the amount of times Donna came over to help with food and cleaning, Cindy always calling, providing you with all the advice and things you needed.
It was very emotional and you found yourself coping perfectly fine without your ex.
Yes, you did feel slightly guilty raising your children without knowing their father but it was the better alternative than if he was still around.
And your children were constantly surrounded by people, family who would always love them and would always be around. Your firefighters were fiercely protective and you wouldn't change that for the world.

she's alright, i guess
Pairing: Stellaride x SeverideDaughter!Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Y/N hasn’t been very welcoming towards having Stella in their lives, but when she’s faced with a situation, Stella proves to Y/N that she’s in her corner.
Word Count: 2.2K+
Tags/Warnings: Dad!Kelly, mentions of attempted assault, single parent, victim shaming
A/N: This is a different kind of request/fic from what I've written for OC so far but I was pretty intrigued by it so I decided to give it a go. Not opening requests for daughter fics at the moment still because I’m not sure how this turned out yet so let me know what you guys think!
STELLARIDE MASTERLIST
You looked up from where you’d been playing with the food on your plate, only to catch Stella smile at your father who was sitting next to you.
Resisting the urge to make a face, you turned to look at him. “Can I be excused?”
Kelly gave a small sigh and turned to look at you, looking like he wanted to say something and then deciding against it, merely nodding. “Yeah, go on.”
You gave his girlfriend a last withering look before you took your plate back into the kitchen.
Kelly suppressed an audible sigh before he looked back at Stella. “Sorry.”
Stella smiled and shook her head. “She just needs some time.”
You rolled your eyes and headed back to your room, plopping yourself down on your bed and staring up at your ceiling.
It wasn’t really that you didn’t like Stella. Hell, you’d been okay with her before you found out she was dating your father.
As far as daughters went, you were sure that you were at least three times more protective over your father than your classmates were about their own parents.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you only ever had Kelly growing up. You’d overheard countless discussions about people telling him that it was hard being a single parent especially with his job but whatever anyone said, and however Kelly had felt from the first time he’d found out he’d had a daughter and come to get you, Kelly had stuck it out with you.
Over the years, especially once you were older, you’d seen many girlfriends come and go - some didn’t want commitment, some ran the moment they found out about you, some just… didn’t make it. It didn’t matter that Kelly had seemed fine with everything. You were not, so all that had done was make you even more protective over him.
So when you’d found out about Stella, you’d felt your hackles raise.
Logically, you knew Stella had done nothing to deserve this but your 15 year old brain couldn’t seem to override the emotion with logic.
You lay there for a while more until there was a knock on your door and Kelly poked his head in.
“Hey kiddo. Can we talk?”
You sat up but didn’t give him an answer because you knew very well what he wanted to talk about and you weren’t sure you wanted to hear it.
Kelly came in anyway, pulling out the chair at your desk and sitting across from you.
“Will you give Stella a break?”
You looked up with a look of protest and Kelly held up a hand.
“I know.” Kelly said in a low voice, giving you a small smile to show you he wasn’t mad. “Just lighten up a little and give her a chance. That’s all I’m asking.”
You didn’t say anything but Kelly let out a chuckle as you pursed your lips. “Go easy.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before patting your hair affectionately and leaving the room.
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, glancing behind you.
You hadn’t meant to let it get so late but you’d gotten a little too immersed in your notes and lost track of time. Other than the wind blowing against your back and making you shiver, you hadn’t realized how quiet the road from your friend’s house was.
You kind of regretted not calling Kelly to come and get you, but you also didn’t relish the idea of waiting here so you’d forged on, telling yourself you’d walked this street thousands of times.
But now, you were pretty sure someone was following you, hearing the echoing footsteps behind you.
Damn it.
Your hands that were jammed into your pockets closed around your phone but you were also worried things would escalate so you picked up your pace instead.
You heard the footsteps behind you match the increase in your speed and just as you thought you should break into a run, you were yanked backwards and unable to maintain your balance, you tumbled onto the concrete pavement, feeling the concrete scrape against your skin.
Your head snapped upwards, feeling your heart fall straight into your gut when you looked back into the face of the man that now towered over you.
It was a stranger, not a face you remembered seeing, but his lips ticked upwards in a smile that flipped your stomach over and your gut feeling as well as every nerve in your body was screaming at you to get up and run.
Flight.
You scrambled to your feet, slowly moving backwards as he now stepped towards you. His movements had slowed, like a predator that had just cornered his prey.
He took another step towards you and with well chosen timing, you brought your knee up swiftly, just like how Kelly had taught you.
Winded, the man bent over but not before letting out a growl.
You didn’t stick around long enough to find out what he had to say, your legs already moving before your brain realized you were running.
The wind blowing against you was painful but you didn’t dare stop because you weren’t sure if he was on your heels.
You turned the corner, sparing a glance back and collided straight into someone.
“Sorry.” You panted, glancing up.
“Y/N?” Stella looked surprised to see you before her expression switched to one of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Stella glanced up at the empty street behind you and then looked back at you. “You okay?”
You really didn’t have the energy for anything else. You just really needed an adult. You glanced up at her without talking and Stella reached for your hand.
When you didn’t pull away, Stella squeezed. “Do you want me to take you home?”
You shook your head quickly. “No. Wait. I just… I don’t want Dad to see me like this.”
Stella studied you for just a second more before she nodded. “My apartment’s just around the corner. Why don’t you come and have something at my place and we can talk? If you want to.”
You hesitated for just a second but you were still kind of spooked so you nodded, letting her lead you back down from where she came from, not even realizing your hand was still in hers.
Stella wasn’t exaggerating when she said her apartment was around the corner.
Within five minutes, you were seated on Stella’s couch, a cup of hot tea in your hands while you found yourself telling her what happened.
It was weird - you’d expected Stella to maybe pat your shoulders a little to reassure you that things would be fine before trying to convince you to call Kelly so he could come and get you. She wouldn't be the first girlfriend to hand you back over to your father as soon as she could.
But the emotions on Stella’s face as you told her were new to you - looks of concern, before outrage and then… if you didn’t know any better, you’d think she was upset.
You fell quiet after a while and Stella scooted a little closer to you.
“Alright, Y/N, listen.” Stella said and you looked up at her. “We have to report this.”
You looked back down again, your index fingers twirling together even though you were still holding the mug.
“I’ll come with you.” Stella paused. “If you’ll let me.”
You looked up again and nodded quietly. "You… You’d do that?”
You registered a look of surprise on Stella’s face before she next spoke. “Of course, Y/N.”
“Can we not call my dad yet?”
There was a small silence and you held back a sigh. You knew what would happen if your father found out about this. Other than the fact that you hated making him worry and that you knew things might get blown up out of proportion with practically everyone getting involved, it was kind of awkward talking to him about some stuff.
Stella glanced at you. “How about we take things one step at a time?”
You bit your lip and Stella nodded encouragingly at you. “Let’s go to the district and then when you’re ready, we can call Kelly alright?”
You nodded quietly, taking another sip of tea before Stella smiled. “Ready?”
You got up and Stella grabbed an extra coat off her coat hanger, draping it around your shoulders.
Stella had been told to wait outside while you gave your statement to the uniformed police officer sitting across from you but you were regretting this with each question the officer asked you.
“What were you doing out so late?”
“Is this what you normally wear to school?
You were done with the insinuations in his voice and tone. You were 15, not an idiot. You knew exactly where this was going and you’d been around your father’s friends long enough to pick some stuff up.
You stood all of a sudden, the nails digging into your palms in an effort not to let the angry tears out. “I’m not answering any more questions.”
“What do you…”
You didn’t let him finish his sentence, opening the door and stalking out.
As promised, Stella was right outside, glancing up as you walked out, reading the expression on your face instantly.
“You okay?”
You pulled Stella’s jacket tighter around yourself. “I just want to go home.”
Stella frowned, glancing up at the officer that was now outside the room as well. “You still have to answer a few questions. You can’t just…”
You didn’t move and Stella looked back down at you. “Y/N?”
“He hasn’t asked me a single question about what happened.” You said in a low voice, focusing only on Stella now. “No questions about how the man looked, what street this took place on, how he sounded.”
Stella frowned. Those were enough for her to put together a few pieces of the puzzle.
“Those are necessary questions. We need to know if…”
“Kidd. Y/N.”
You glanced up at a familiar face and Stella patted your back. “Told you I got you.” She whispered in a low voice so only you could hear.
Stella nodded with a smile at Hailey.
Telling the officer she’d take over, Hailey led you back into the room and smiled encouragingly at you.
“Stella called me. Will you tell me what happened?”
It was easier than you’d expected to talk to Hailey but even as you told her what happen, you found yourself internally steeling yourself for a lecture of some sort and you suddenly just really wished Kelly was here.
But Hailey offered no lecture or talking-to. Instead, she treated you like an adult, taking down the information you offered, her questions only revolving around important information she obviously needed, before she closed the book.
“Thank you, Y/N. Here.” Hailey handed you a small bottle and a small device. “Pepper spray and a small panic button.”
You looked up a little surprised and Hailey smiled. “If nothing, maybe it’ll help you feel safer.”
You nodded, keeping the things she handed you and Hailey came around and squeezed your shoulder before taking you out of the room again where Stella was waiting.
“Dad must be worried, I…”
Stella shook her head with a smile. “I told him you’re with me so he wouldn’t. I can call him if you’re ready.”
You felt involuntary tears well up in your eyes before you nodded. "Can you? I... I think I really need him."
Kelly was here in record time, running up the steps of the district as if he’d been waiting nearby in the first place but you didn’t care. The rush of relief and safety when you saw him made you wonder why you hadn’t gone to him immediately anyway.
“Y/N!”
You didn’t say anything, merely shooting off your seat to dive into your father’s arms like you were a child once again.
“You okay? Let me see.” Kelly pulled away just a little to look at you but other than remnants of the startled look in your eyes and new tears ready to spill over, you weren’t really hurt.
Kelly gently pulled you back into his arms and exhaled. “Thank god.”
He was never one for long verbal communications of how much he loved you but you didn’t really need him to tell you. This was even more apparent now as you were huddled in your father’s arms in the middle of a police district.
“You must be starving.” Kelly said after a while, looking down at you to wipe a stray tear off your face. “Why don’t we go get something to eat, hmm?”
You gave a small crooked smile and Kelly looked up, meeting Stella’s eyes.
“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Kelly said with a small apologetic smile at Stella. “Thank you.”
Stella nodded, but you interrupted them. “You’re not coming to eat with us?”
Kelly raised his eyebrows.
“Thought I’d give you two some private time.” Stella said, although she seemed to be weighing the look in your eyes now.
You shrugged. “You can come eat with us, too.”
Kelly glanced between his girlfriend and daughter. “Did something happen?”
You shrugged, lowering your voice. “She’s alright I guess.”
Kelly chuckled, swinging an arm around your shoulders as he led you out of the district. Stella fell into step on your other side and you smiled up at her. “Thank you.” You whispered, fully aware your father could hear you.
Stella smiled. “Thank you, too.”
Kelly just smiled at both his girls as the three of you walked down the empty streets. Together.
THANK YOU FOR READING!! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS!!

Field Trip
Kelly Severide X Daughter!reader, Firehouse 51 x Severide!Reader
Summary: House 51 finds out you're being bullied after your class comes to the house for a field trip.
Warnings: Bullying
Reader's Age: 8
A/n: My first Chicago fire fic! This takes place season 4. There will be a second part.
Kelly packs your lunch while you got dressed. He looks toward your room to see you if you were coming out yet.
"Y/n! Hurry up! We're going to be late." He shouts zipping your lunch box up and reaching for your backpack.
"Coming!" You shout. He goes to set the lunch box in you bag before he notices a crumpled-up paper. He grabs it and uncrumples it before reading what it said. It was a field trip permission slip? Why didn't you tell him yet? He knows you, he knows how excited you get about field trips you'd never forget.
"Okay I'm ready." You said coming out of your room.
"Hey why didn't you tell me about this field trip?" He asks reading the paper over figuring it might be somewhere you wouldn't think he'd allow you to go. It was to fire house 51, why would you hide that from him. He had known there was a class coming to the house but he didn't know it was yours.
"Cause I don't want to go on it." You shrug putting your shoes on. He grabs a pen so he can sign it
"Why not bug? You love coming to the house." He says, as he signs the permission slip.
"This is different then going there with you." You say grabbing your bag. He looks at you questioningly.
"Please come. The guys would be so excited to see you." He says as Matt walks into the kitchen. You guys were still sharing a place with him. "Matt wouldn't everyone be excited to see y/n at the house today?"
"Yeah." He says confused.
"Dad, Uncle Matt it's not the same." You claim as he hands you the permission slip.
"I don't know what we're talking about." Matt says going around the counter to get a drink.
"Her class is coming on a field trip to the house today and she doesn't want to go." Severide says.
"What? Why not?"
"I just don't want to. Can we go now?" You ask putting your backpack on.
———
You sat on the bus on the way to the firehouse. You knew this was a bad idea but you were doing it cause your dad wanted you too.
"Hey Y/n?" You don't respond. "What? Cats got your tongue?" The guy behind you pushes your head.
"Leave me alone Brad." You mumble glaring at him.
"No what are you going to do cry to your mommy? Wait you don't have one." He laughs looking at his buddies.
"At least I have a dad that isn't a drunk." You quip back at him. He glares at you but sits back when the teacher looked your way. You looked out the window watching the building pass. It doesn't take long until the bus pulls into the firehouse. You stand up putting your bag back on and looking at your teacher.
"Okay everyone! Stay together no wandering off, listen to the firemen. They didn't have to let our class come by to see the firehouse but they did so be on your best behaviors. We're going to have pairs, that I'll be picking. So-." She goes through the names in alphabetical order by last name which was how she did the pairs. You crossed your fingers, Brad is right before you when going alphabetically. "Brad and Y/n." You groan looking at him and he just smirks. She eventually gets through all of the names. "Okay stay with your buddy at all times. Now single file let's get of the bus."
Everyone leaves the bus and finds their buddy. You stand before Brad frowning. Kelly and Matt were waiting to see if you'd come. Kelly hadn't mentioned it to anyone else. Matt was just curious mostly as to why you wouldn't want to come. Boden stands outside to greet the students and notices you rather quickly.
"Ms. Gates. Hello I'm chief Boden."
"Hello Chief nice to meet you. This is my class." She motions to the 12 3rd graders including you. You looked at squad table where your dad was grinning having seen you.
"Hello kids." He smiles. He decides not to greet you by name but he smiles back at you when you nod hello to him. "Welcome to firehouse 51. This is Otis he's going to be giving you a tour." Otis scans his eyes over the crowd of kids noticing you.
"Why do they call you Otis?" A girl in your class asks him.
"It's because I am the elevator guy." He explains.
"Oh." She says though she clearly still didn't understand.
"Okay lets start the tour!" He grins. You don't really pay attention since you've grown up in this firehouse. Brad seemed interested in it which meant he wasn't bullying you. Which means no one here knew you were being bullied. You had it handled, you didn't need to tell your dad.
You were intently listening to Otis talk about things you already knew. It was better then staying at the school you guess. Soon the tour was pretty much over. But because of Brad you got separated from the class. He got distracted looking at something, you tried to tell him to hurry up because you didn't want to get in trouble when Ms. Gates couldn't find him. He didn't listen though so now your separated from the group.
"This place is small I can find my way around it without Otis." He claimed after you pointed out that your were "Lost" you were you knew where you were but he didn't. "Now hurry up the teacher is going to notice cause you walk so slow."
"Uh huh." You mumble.
"Couldn't hear that." He teases laughing.
"You're just making us more lost." You say as he continues you taking you everyone except where you should be.
"Shut up. I know what I'm doing." He scoffs.
"Sure you do. Your just an idiot." You say under your breath. You didn't think he could hear you but he did.
"What did you say?" He asks halting his steps.
"I said you're just an idiot." You said a little louder. You looked around to see if anyone was around but nope of course not.
"Whatever at least I have a mom unlike you." You didn't say anything just walking toward the common area since you knew at least Mouch would be there. "Don't ignore me!" He says chasing after you pulling on your backpack to stop you.
"Hey." You yelped you didn't notice that Herrmann and Mouch were walking down the hall and saw you, they couldn't hear you guys but could see everything. They already knew you were here, they saw you with the class but they just waved. They didn't want to bother you when you were with friends. Well herrmann wanted to but Mouch stopped him. "Let go."
"What're you going to do huh? You're weak you can't do anything." Brad laughs in your face pushing you to the ground, you were quick to get up about ready to tackle him. The bullying was never physical it was just insults and stupid comments. You kicked him in the crotch causing him to fall to the ground. This was their cue to break it up.
"Woah there kids." Herrmann pulls him back right before he can fight back while mouch holds you back when he notices you try and swing at Brad.
"Why are you fighting?" Mouch asks, looking between you both.
"She kicked me for no reason! I was just trying to find someone cause we got lost." Brad lies.
"He pushed me! So I fought back." You said hoping they'd believe you. They knew the truth but you didn't know that. What you just did was starting to settle in and you were worrying about your dad's reaction.
"Okay kid." Herrmann looks down at Brad. "I'm gonna need you to tell the truth."
"I just did!"
"No you didn't! You pushed me I was just fighting back!" You argue. Mouch tightens his grip on you to make sure you don't try to fight him again.
"You're the liar. You kicked me for no reason!"
"Alright! We saw it happen. We want to know why it happened." Herrmann says sternly. You grew silent not wanting to admit it.
"She called me an idiot."
"Did you y/n?" Herrmann asks loosening his grip but keeping his hands on brad's shoulders so he could stop him if he did try anything. Mouch did the same with you noticing you calmed down a bit.
"Yeah I did."
"Wait how do you know her name?" Brad questions.
"Why did you call him an idiot?" Mouch asks ignoring Brad.
"He keeps commenting about how I dont have a mom... And he got us separated from the class and he claimed he knew what he did. And he is one!"
"Am not!" He argues.
"Yes you are!" You say before he tries to fight you again. Herrmann holds him back though while you lean back into Mouch to farther yourself from Brad.
"Take him back to their class. I need to talk to Y/n." Herrmann says to Mouch.
"Seriously how do you know her name?"
"My dad works here." You say. Brad's eyes widening but Mouch started leading him away before he could respond.
"How long?" Christopher asks you kneeling to be eye level with you.
"How long what?" You ask even though you knew.
"How long have you been being bullied and does your dad know?" He clarifies studying your face.
"Uncle Chris it doesn't matter." You say, you didn't want to talk about it.
"It does matter." You're family. Kelly is family so you're family. Maybe even a little more than kelly, you're his daughter's best friend and spend a lot of time at his house. Cindy watches you sometimes when Kelly is on shift, you have a nanny so normally your with her but when you can't be then you're with Cindy. "Even if you dont tell me I have to tell your dad."
"You can't! Uncle herrmann I have it handled."
"Handled? That didn't look handled."
"I just handled it. Please don't tell dad." You beg him. He shakes his head, he wants you to trust him, but he'd want kelly to tell him if he found out one of his kids were being bullied.
"You have to tell him or I will." He says before standing again. "I can be with you when you tell him. Now let's you get you back to the class."
"Okay." You mumble looking at ground.
"Y/n! I said no wandering and to stay by your buddy." The teacher says as you and Herrmann walk up.
"That's my fault Ma'am I had to talk to her about something so I sent her buddy back so I could." Herrmann explains to her.
"Okay. I guess that is fine then."
"Bye Uncle Chris." You say trying to shoo him away.
"You have a firemen as uncle?" One of your classmates ask grinning
"All of my uncles are firemen." You say which was true, you've known most of these people your while or most of your whole life, so you call them aunt and uncle. Other than Mouch and Otis they're just Mouch and Otis but you consider them your uncles either way. Herrmann smiles before walking out to the apparatus bay.
"Why didn't you mention that?" Ms. Gates asks.
"I thought you knew my dad was a firemen." You shrug. The teacher nods.
"Y/n you didn't tell your class about us?" Otis asks acting offending.
"Sorry Otis." You shrug before he goes back to the tour leading you all back to the apparatus bay to teach you about the equipment.
"Your dad works here?" Nate, one of Brad's friends asks in a whisper.
"Mhm." You nod not taking your eyes off of Otis. You could feel Herrmann and Mouch watching you as you sat beside Brad and his friends. They wanted to tell Kelly but wanted to see if you would first.
"Then who is he?" Jackson one of his other friends ask also whispering.
"Kelly severide." You motion to the table. Kelly talking to Capp about something.
"Really? Then why hasn't he said hi to you yet or talked to you?" Brad asks in a taunt.
"I dont know. Shush I'm trying to listen." You whisper looking over at herrmann.
"I bet you're lying just to get attention." He says louder than he meant making Otis look at you guys.
"Keep it down please so the people who want to learn can."
"Sorry." You say.
"If he's really your dad you'll go over and say hi to him."
"Ms. Gates would be mad if I leave the group again. I'm not doing it leave me alone Brad." You mutter
"That's cause he isn't your dad. You're lying for attention I knew it." Jackson laughs. You try to ignore them listening to Otis talk about something.
"Her dad is probably just some loser that's why she's lying." You look over at Herrmann and Mouch. They kept their eyes on you and the boys but were talking to each other.
"Your uncles won't be there next time." Brad says looking back at the firemen who glared at him, he turns back to Otis.
——
"Didn't she tell your kids?" Mouch asks herrmann.
"Annabelle didn't mention anything to me. Cindy would've said something if Annabelle told her." Hermann says looking at his friends.
"Severide doesn't know?"
"No. I heard from Casey that she didn't even want to come on this field trip. I guess we know why now." Herrmann says as your class comes out on to the apparatus floor again.
They watch you sit beside Brad and two other boys who were talking with Brad. The two men keep an eye watching you four talk. Noticing how you'd look at them every few minutes or so. They could hear one of the boys say you're lying for attention. They glared at Brad when he looked back at him. Brad turn around quickly, Herrmann smirks, he's never been happier to have a kid scared of him.
"Why are you glaring at that kid?" Dawson asks walking over to them.
"We caught y/n getting into a fight with that kid." Mouch says.
"He's been bullying her. She hasn't told anyone though." Herrmann says.
"Oh." Dawson say looking over at you, you are currently whispering to the guys next to you. "Have you guys told kelly yet?"
"No I'm giving her the chance to first. For now we watch." He says leaning back on the wall.
"Cause that isn't creepy." She chuckles patting his shoulder before walking away.
——
"Okay kids lets eat lunch and get back to school?" The teacher's voice breaks your thoughts. "Find a place to sit and eat with your friends just stay out of the way of the firefighters please." You get up and walk over to Herrmann and Mouch.
"Hey kid. Everything alright?"
"I'll tell dad... Not right now though I'll tell him tomorrow."
"Tell me what?" Kelly asks as he walks up behind you.
"Uh.." You look at herrmann for help. He nods slightly and you look back at your dad. "I'm being bullied... I got into a fight earlier."
"Who? Those boys you were talking to?" Kelly looks at them.
"Yeah. But dad im fine! I have it handled.." You say.
"Have you told your teacher?"
"No.. I haven't told anyone. Only reason they know is cause they caught us fighting." You mumble looking at the ground. You know you should've told him when it started but a lot has been happening lately that you thought it was better not to worry him.
"Okay... I'll talk to your teacher. Go sit at squad table and eat your lunch." Kelly says. "And bug please tell me next time."
"I will I promise. But I did totally win that fight! Ask them." You say proudly.
"Uh huh." He chuckles hugging you.
"Thank you guys." You say to mouch and Herrmann hugging them before running over to say hi to Capp.
"Thank you two for helping her." He says to the older men.
"Of course, if you found out my kids were being bullied id want you to tell me and Cindy." Herrman assures.
"Of course we'd tell you. Also she really did do some damage to that kid." Mouch says grinning. Kelly smiles shaking his head.
"Okay I need to talk to her teacher now. Thanks again."
—
"Hi Uncle Capp! Hi uncle Cruz!" You smile as you take your book bag off your back and sit in Kelly's seat.
"Hey baby Severide." Capp smiles. "What do you got for lunch?"
"A sandwich. Dad can only make a basic lunches." You say pulling the lunch box out.
"That's why we don't let him cook for us." Capp jokes.
"Who were those boys?" Cruz asked you.
"The guys who've been bullying me. But I already told dad and he's dealing with it." You say pulling out your sandwich.
"You're being bullied?"
"That's what I just said." You mumble taking a bite of the sandwich.
"Why didn't you tell us? We could've rough him up a bit for you." Capp jokes.
"I already did. I faught him in the hallway earlier and I won." You say smugly.
"Way to go." Cruz grins high-fiving you. "How did gig do it?"
"I kicked him in the crotch." You whispered. Capp laughs high giving you.
"Good job." He grins.
"Thanks." You say with your mouth full. You look over at your teacher and Kelly. He seemed frustrated but you couldn't hear what they were saying. "
"He'll get the teacher to do something about it. If she doesn't, you have a bunch of firemen who can scare him off for you." Cruz grins. You nod looking down at your food.
"Hey Y/n how was the tour?" Otis walks over to the table smiling at you.
"It was good. Sorry I missed some of it. Brad the guy I was paired with got distracted by something.. And than he wouldn't let me lead the way back."
"It's okay."
"Hey Otis our little y/n here got into a fight today and won." Cruz smirks proudly.
"No shit. When?" Otis leans on the table.
"When we got lost."
"That's what herrmann was talking to you about."
"Yeah. Him and Mouch had to break it up." You say grabbing your cookie from the lunch box. "Dad is talking to Ms. Gates about it." You motion to where kelly was at.
"It'll end up okay." Otis assures. Kelly walked back over looking angry.
"She said she can't do anything." He says sitting down in one of the chairs.
"What? Why not?"
"Something about school policy and kids needing to handle it themselves I don't know."
"That's bull shit." Cruz says. You look over at Brad and the other two boys. You thought it would end not that you told your dad but it won't of course.
"Hey we'll get him to stop. I have one rule though you don't start any fight okay? But you end them okay?" Kelly asks you taking your cookie and breaking a piece off of it before handing it back to you.
"Yeah I won't start any fights I promise."
"Good."
"So tell my y/n how did you win that fight?" Otis asks.
"Fight?" Sylvie asks walking over.
"What happened?" Stella says coming over as well.
"Our little severide here got into a fight." Cruz grins.
Even if you are being bullied, you know you'll always have support here.

So Long Part 2 Brian Zvonecek x Boden!reader
written by @anotheronechicagobog
It had been six months since your visit home. You and Brian had been keeping in contact via texting and writing letters. It was a bit difficult to know what to write in the letters, you wanted the information, and little drawings you added on the side margins, to be a surprise. So your phone calls tended to be about movies, books, and bad puns. You’d come up with a game where you would tell each other bad puns, trying to find the worst one.
“Thanks for explaining the word ‘many’ to me Y/N, it means a lot.”
“Why did Adele cross the road? To say hello from the other side.”
“What concert only costs 45 cents? A 50 cent concert featuring Nickleback.”
“Hey! Don’t slam on my favourite band! It’s not my fault you have bad taste!”
“Ha! I win! That means that we have to read ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’! Better luck next time, loser.”
“No need to rub it in Bri, next time we’ll be reading ‘Son of a Trickster’ and I will get you to like Eden Robinson.”
“Yeah, yeah. Better go get a copy of the book that you actually have to read in the by two weeks.”
“Fine, fine. I should get going. Gotta get to work and then the bookstore.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to you tomorrow?”
“Of course.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER
You were practically vibrating as you disembarked the plane. While you’d been home on a few visits since the one where you’d met Brian it wasn’t the same as being home. So, after twelve years of schooling and training, you were coming home. You’d managed to keep it a secret from everyone but Brian, wanting to surprise everyone. Brian met you outside the arrivals door, smiling ear to ear.
“Brian! It’s so good to see you!” You met halfway and wrapped yourselves up in a bear hug. “Does my dad suspect anything?”
“No, but Cruz does. I’ve been smiling too much this week apparently.”
“How does he have time to notice you when he just started dating that Chloe chick?”
“He knows how to multitask.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two hours later you had just finished setting up Otis’ apartment for your unofficial welcome home party. Those invited were under the impression that Otis was hosting the party for the Cubs game and you couldn’t wait to shock all of them.
You had just finished putting out all the food, while leaving some room for the dishes others were bringing when there was a knock on the door. You darted into Brian’s room before he opened the door. Judging from the voices Kelly Severide and Matt Casey had arrived first.
It took a half-hour for everyone to arrive, you could hear the laughter and comradery and couldn’t wait to join it. Brian silenced the commotion and got the children to sit down and you knew that that was your queue.
“Everyone, I have been a little misleading. I didn’t really invite you here to watch the game. I invited you here for Y/N’s welcome home party!” You walked to the living room and stood beside Brian while he pulled a string that release red paper confetti and a roll-down sign with ‘Welcome Home’ painted in large red letters. “Eep! Brian! When did you set that up?”
“Let’s talk about that later, now... Hide me from your dad!” He hid behind you just as your dad reached you and wrapped you in a burly hug. The scent of smoke and old spice tickled your nostrils, causing you to tear up at the feeling of nostalgia. “I missed you dad.”
“When did you fly in?”
“I got here three hours ago.”
“How long are you staying?” The unease in his eyes brought a soft smile to your face. You placed your hands on his shoulders and you could feel him tense and wait for bad news under your fingers.”
“Forever. I’m moving home.” Cheers and the clinking of glasses surrounded you, enveloping you in the knowledge that you were making the right decision. Meeting the mirthy eyes of Brian made your heart swell with love and excitement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TWO MONTHS LATER
“Doctor Boden, Doctor Manning has requested a consult. One of your younger patients has been admitted into the ED.”
“Which patient?”
“Samirah Arian.”
“Damn, her last tests were so good.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Natalie?”
“Y/N, this way. She came in ten minutes ago and she’s only been getting worse.” The young girl looked minuscule in her bed, so tiny and frail. “Mr. and Mrs. Arian, what happened?”
“She didn’t look well this morning, and then her fever spiked.”
“When she’s stable I’d like to move her up to the isolation unit, for now, we need to start scans and blood tests. Maggie, order a CAT scan and an MRI, and we need to run a blood test to find the number of her white blood cell count. You’ve already got her on antibiotics right?”
“Of course.”
“Good, let’s get moving. Maggie, can radiology squeeze us in?”
“Go on up, they’re waiting for you.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The couch heaved under you as you all but collapsed on top of it. You’d just spent 24 hours at the hospital, pulling an extra shift to stay with the Arian family and treat their daughter. Thankfully you’d been able to switch shifts with a co-worker making that possible. The timing of this meant that you got home 30 seconds before your roommates. Brian, Sylvie, and Emily sludged through the door. “Why do you look so tired Y/N? You didn’t pull a 24-hour shift.” Emily whined as she tried to make you move off the couch, so she could lie on it instead. “Actually I did, I had to work another twelve hours because one of my kid patients who finally got to go home took a turn for the worst and ended up in the ED, then a few of my other patients went downhill as well, and we discovered that the old crotchety nurse I hate hasn’t been washing or sanitizing her hands because she felt those of us her were are too coddled and weak, which is of course what caused a bunch of kids with cancer to get worse.”
“Ouch.” You’d moved into a sitting position so that Sylvie and Emily could cuddle into you, the three of you just about to fall asleep across from Bian in his favourite chair, your stomach snarled. “When was the last time you ate?”
“...”
“Y/N?”
“I’m trying to think of a way to say it that won’t make you upset.”
“Oh no...”
“Yeah, that’s not possible. A granola bar fourteen hours ago.”
“Y/N!”
“Oh come on Brian, I was busy! It was absolute chaos!”
“I’m going to order some deep-dish pizzas, cause we haven’t eaten in a while either, but don’t think this conversation is done.”
“Yeah, yeah...” Despite her exhaustion, Emily gathered the energy to wiggle her eyebrows at you. “Cut it ouuuuut.”
“Emily has a point Y/N...” You bit your lip and shook your head. You and Brian had been dating secretly for the past eight months. While it had been difficult starting a relationship when you were so far away from each other, it had been worth it. To come home and be with Brian was a heavenly feeling, though it would be easier once you got some privacy or told everyone about your relationship. Chloe and Cruz had moved in together, causing Brian and Sylvie to move out. Sylvie had initially been crashing on Emily’s couch while she found a place, but even with Sylvie’s help the rent got too high, so they moved into the house you and Brian were renting at your dad’s insistence. You were annoyed, honestly, at your father’s gall, but mostly at the realization that he thought he could prevent you from dating who you wanted to. It was ridiculous, and a little high school if you were honest with yourself.
“Pizza has been ordered, and... I call dibs on the shower first!” Your drained laughter mixed with the shouts of protest coming from the other women as your boyfriend locked the bathroom door. Their tangled limbs had knocked you onto the floor in their haste to prevent your moustache man from getting to the shower first, so when the returned to the couch defeated, you were laughing weakly as tears dripped from your and hugging your chest.
“It’s not funny Y/N.”
Queue laughter picking up its pace.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you sure that this is a good idea?”
“No, but I don’t want to hide our relationship from your dad anymore, we both know he suspects something.”
“True. Alright, just remember not to get too flustered. He’ll probably want to punch you but I’ll make sure that you’re holding Terrance when we tell him so that he can’t. Just don’t blurt out details from our sex life or something. Or insult his painted birds, he’s very proud of those.”
“Alright, hold Terrance, don’t get punched, don’t talk about sex, or his... His painted what?”
“He started carving and painting bird after grandad died, it was something they used to do together.”
“Okay, don’t insult his painted birds-”
“And don’t tell the firehouse about them!” His eyes widened in realization. “Ooh, good point! He’d definitely string me alive for that. Okay, I’m not ready, but I want to do this, let’s get going.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’d co-ordinated with Donna, so while she didn’t know who you were dating she knew you were bringing your boyfriend and you didn’t want your dad to kill him. So she insisted on answering the door with Terrance on her hip so that she could hand Brian his shield for the night.
“Wallace, here they are.”
“They?”
“Hi dad.”
“Hi chief.”
“Otis... What are you doing here? With your arm around my daughter’s waist? Holding my son?”
“Uh... Well.. It... It- It’s re-really-”
“Dad, Brian is my boyfriend. We have been dating for eight months, and we live together. Together and alone now that our two temporary roommates have found their own place.” The complete and utter rage displayed on his face yanked a squeak out of Brian and a shutter out of you. It had been well over a decade since you’d seen that face and you’d wished you’d never have to see it again, yet here you were. “Using Terrance as a shield was smart. Clearly Y/N or Donna’s idea. Y/N, can I see you in the dining room please?”
“Okay,” you turned to Brian, “I’ll be back in a minute, keep holding Terrance.” A kiss in the cheek and you were gone, having willingly entered the lions’ den.
“Dad-”
“No. I will speak. Y/N you are my greatest accomplishment, being your father has been the best thing I’ve done with my life. I love you with all of my soul, and that’s why I can’t let you stay with Otis any longer. Being with a firefighter takes strain on relationships, it is challenging to keep them alive. Donna, Cindy, Trudy, every one of the wives of my men worries in ways I never want you to suffer through. One day, Otis might not come home. He might die. In a house, a factory, or a hospital room. You will live with this fear, the fear that you will lose him, day after day for the rest of your life. It will never end. And the loss you will feel will be like no other, it will rip you apart and grind you into bits. And if he doesn’t die on the job, which no matter how much I want to maim him right now I don’t wish for him, the worry will fry your nerves until you breakdown.”
“Are you done?”
“Yes.” He growled at your indifferent response. “I will not live my life afraid of pain. If I did, I would have chosen to live with my mother instead, so that I wouldn’t ‘fry my nerves’ with worry. But I still did. Because I loved you and wanted to live with you. I have spent every day of my life worrying and fretting about your safety. And uncle Hermann’s, and uncle Mouch’s. Adding Brian to that list won’t be much of a feat, and you’re insulting my ability to find healthy outlets for my emotions. If I get hurt, then I’ll get hurt. But the time I’ve spent with Brian is something that I will cherish and hold dear to me, and as long as he lets me, loves me, I’ll spend the rest of my time, my life with him. I love him.”
“You really do, huh?”
“Yes.”
Teary sobs came from the living room, “can you hug already? Please?”
“And can we join?” All you could do was smile through the happy tears as your dad, your hero, embraced you and gestured for Brian and Donna to join you. Love, happiness, and relief radiated from all five of you, even though Terrance had no clue what was going on.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“... I still want to punch you Otis.”
“Dad!”
“Wallace!”
“I said that I want to not that I will. Sheesh.”

When The Bells Toll
Summary : Y/N Casey was at school when a fire breaks out.
Pairing : Matt Casey x Daughter Reader
Warnings : Fluff, Angst, Fatherly Love.
A/N : Request by @katsaysnothanks “I loved your fic where the reader was Matt’s kid. I’m not sure if your planning on writing more fics like that, but if you are you should do one where firehouse 51 responds to a call where the Matt’s kid is involved or something angsty like that.”
Masterlist
Y/N could hear the beeping of her alarm like it was in a tunnel getting louder and louder. Slowly she started waking up and turned off her alarm and started to get out of bed. I head into the bathroom and get ready for the morning. Around 7am I was finished and made my way downstairs. While walking down the hallway of her house she could smell the sizzling delicious smell of bacon cooking coming from the kitchen. When the kitchen comes into view she see her dad standing at the oven placing bacon from the frying pan onto a plate that already had some eggs on. I head inside and get myself a hot cup of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table.
“Hey kiddo” dad said while walking over to the table with two plates of food, placing one in front of me and one in front of him.
“Morning dad, thanks for the breakfast” I say while taking a mouthful of eggs.
“You coming to the firehouse after school today?” Dad says
“Yeah I think so.” I reply
“Ok, well let me know so I don’t worry please. Well come on finish up we need to leave in 10.” Dad says while leaving the table to finish getting himself ready for work.
By the time the clock hit 7:20 we were out the house in the truck heading to the firehouse. I would always go with dad in the morning as the firehouse was closer walk to school than if I had to do it from home. Dad parks the truck and we walk into the firehouse were some of the guys where already there. They still have 15 minutes until their shift started.
“Little Casey” I hear Herrmann shout when I walk into the common room.
“Hey.” I say with a smile and go and give everybody a hug.
I stayed for a little while until I saw the time and needed to get going so I wasn’t late for school. “Dad, I’m going to school now. I’ll text you later if I’m coming here after or going home. Love you” I say before I start walking out the firehouse.
“Love you too baby girl” dad said before I exited the firehouse.
I reached school around 8:15 and headed to my locker to get my science book since that was my first lesson of the day. I enter the classroom and took my seat at the front of the class like normal next to my best friend Katie. Today we were learning about Newton’s Law. We were half way through the class when suddenly I could feel a wave of heat hit the back of me and a bright light and a loud boom go off before everything went black.
Back at the firehouse everyone was still relaxing before the first call would come in. They were all sitting in the common room talking ringing some coffee when the loud ring of the bell went off
BUZZZZ : SQUAD 3, TRUCK 81, AMBULANCE 61, ENGINE 51, SCHOOL FIRE 45 38 WEST CLINTON.
At that moment Casey could feel his heart stop as he made his way over to truck 81. This was his daughters school. Many things were going through his mind at that moment but the min focus was making sure that she was ok and that she would be coming home safe.
Y/N slowly started to become conscious again. She couldn’t breath everything was bright around her she could hear the school fire alarm but wasn’t reassuring what was really going on for a few moments until her brain started working again and she started to get up from the floor. She looked around the room and people where trying to get out the room. People were helping people out. I looked next to me and see that Katie was still out cold. I was about to check her pulse when she started to move and wake up. I grabbed her hand and helped her up. “Come on, we need to get out of here. But before I left the room I opened my bag and took out my scarf an water bottle and we ran out the room. I started to break my scarf in half while walking down the corridor slowly as Katie hurt her ankle and I started to also wet my scarf when it was in two. “Put this over your mouth, it’ll help with the smoke not much but it will still make a big difference.” I say while putting the other half on my face. At that moment I hadn’t even notice that I had some blood on my head from when I feel in the blast but right now all I could focus on was getting out and getting some real oxygen into my lungs.
When I finally mad it outside I could see some of firehouse 51 already there but I couldn’t see m dad anywhere, meaning I kew he was inside probably looking for me. That’s when I shout out for ‘Brett” she turned around a looked in my way and rushed over to me. “OMG, thank God you’re ok.” I give her a hug “Please look over Katie she’s hurt, we were in the room where the fire started” I say while walking to the ambo. When we get there I can hear Kidd talking into her talkie “No she’s fine Casey she is out of the school she is here” she moves the talkie to me “Dad I’m out, be safe” I say “Ok baby, I love you” he said. When he finally made his way out he came over to me and gave me the biggest hug ever and didn’t let go. “I’m so glad you’re ok. I don’t know what I would do if I lost you” he said giving me a kiss on the head.
From that moment he didn’t let me leave his sight. Katie’s mum picked her up and I got signed off to go with dad when he left the scene. When we finally made it back to the firehouse I went straight to the showers and took a nice long hot shower and finished cleaning myself and cleaning the rest of the blood that Brett didn’t when she looked me over at the scene. Once I was clean I got dressed in my dad oversize shirt and some sweatpants and made my way to the common room.
“Oh, right on time. Dinner is ready” Herrmann said.
For the rest of the night I stayed at the firehouse with my dad and didn’t leave his side. Even Mouch who we all know loves his TV gave me the remote and I ended up putting on a movie called Sorority Wars and cuddles up to made dad on the sofa. Nobody sad a word about the movie like they would normally do and watched as well or read the paper but stayed quiet. Half way through the movie I feel asleep in my dads arms, safe. He looked down at his sleeping angel and was happy. Yes today was a lot but she was home safe in his arms and he knew he wouldn’t move until the next bells went off. She hadn’t done this in a long time. Y/N Casey wasn’t a hugger, so this was something special for him, and that’s where he stayed until the bells tolled again.

Ball Of Sunshine
Requested by Anon - hi! can i please request a chicago pd imagine where the reader is voight's daughter and the new firefighter at firehouse 51, and starts dating jay and voight finds out? fluffy or angsty or whatever way you see fit. love your writing! Characters – Hank, Reader x Jay Word Count – 1255
‘Team, I’d like you to meet our newest candidate.’ Boden said as he stood beside you. ‘Y/N Voight.’ He said you name, you looked at the team as they shared looks with each other. ‘As in Voight daughter?’ Cruz spoke up, you nodded. ‘The one and only.’ You said happily. ‘You’re nothing like him.’ Sylvia said beside you, you turned and smiled at her. ‘Yeah, I’m ‘sunshine’ of the family.’ You said, using your fingers to emphasis the sunshine part, they all smiled and nodded before Sylvia nodded and made space for you next to her.
Present Day. ‘You know your dad is gonna kill me.’ Jay said as he pushed you against the closed door. ‘Why would I kill you?’ You heard the deep voice that belonged to your father, Jay pulled away from you as you looked at Voight. ‘Y/N.’ Hank greeted you, you nodded at him ‘Dad.’ You said, giving him a smile as his eyes flickered to Jay. ‘Why is he here?’ He asked jutting his head at Jay. ‘He’s helping me with my homework, why else would he be here?’ You asked sarcastically, Hank’s eyes narrowed at the pair of you before Jay cleared his throat. ‘I’m just gonna leave.’ Jay said, you reached out and stopped him. ‘No, you’re staying my dad’s just about to leave.’ You told him, he shook his head avoiding eye contact with Hank. ‘No honestly.’ ‘Jay, please go wait in the living room, we had a date night planned.’ You told him, he looked at you and nodded before walking past Hank and disappearing from sight. ‘Halstead, really?’ He asked, you shrugged your shoulder. ‘I’m not letting you scare him off like you’ve down the rest of them.’ You warned him, he sighed. ‘I really like him, he’s different from the others.’ You explained to him, he looked at you and sighed rubbing his eyes as he walked over to you. ‘You’re my little ball of sunshine.’ He said, his hands on your shoulders, you smiled at him and placed a hand on one of his. ‘Yeah, who’s grown dad, please.’ You said, not wanting to beg him. ‘Fine, but if he breaks your heart, he’ll be stuck on desk duty for a year.’ He warned you, saying it loud enough that Jay would hear it as well. ‘Yeah, fine whatever.’ You said rolling your eyes, he smiled and pressed a kiss to your forehead before opening your door. ‘Remember we have dinner with Erin this Friday, she’s back in town.’ He told you, you nodded and ‘You can bring Jay along.’ He said, you smiled widely and nodded again before watching him walk away before shutting the door and joining Jay in the other room.
---
‘Where’s Y/N?’ Hank asked as he looked up and only saw Jay entering the building. ‘She said they had gotten a call and that she would be late, I was to come to be with you.’ Jay told Voight, as he smiled at Erin who was looking at the menu. Jay was about to sit down when his and Voight’s phone went off. ‘Possible terrorist threat.’ Jay said, informing Erin before they both made their way out and drove to the scene, showing their badges they ducked under the police tape. ‘Where’s Y/N?’ Jay asked when he saw the others standing at their truck, not seeing you with them, they looked at them. ‘She’s still inside.’ Kelly spoke up, Hank looked at them. ‘Inside? Then why aren’t you getting her out?’ Jay asked. ‘She being held by the man. If we go in, he’ll blow it up.’ Kelly said, Jay and Hank and looked at each other before looking at Boden. ‘How is it possible, he’s threatening it.’ Hank said, getting annoyed as the rest of the team pulled up at the edge of the crime scene. ‘We don’t know if he’s serious.’ Boden said, holding his radio strap. ‘Can’t you contact Y/N?’ Jay asked, the team shook their heads. ‘Her radios off.’ Boden said.
---
‘Don’t move.’ He snapped at you. ‘I’m not going to.’ You said calmly your voice muffled, as you watched the man pace back in front of you. ‘Am I allowed to you ask you a question?’ You asked him, not wanting to push the limits ‘Yes.’ He said, as he looked at you. ‘Can you remove my mask and helmet?’ You asked him, he shook his head. ‘I can’t take my finger off of this.’ He said, you nodded, ‘but you can do it yourself.’ He said, you reached up and removed the mask along with the helmet, sitting it down beside you. ‘Thanks, can I ask why you’re doing this?’ You asked him, he shrugged. ‘I just have to?’ He said, you nodded. ‘Do you want to, or is someone making you do this?’ You asked him, rolling your shoulders as you sat up taller. He only looked at you before looking away, focussing through the windows. ‘Okay you don’t have to answer.’ You told him, keeping him calm. ‘Do you have someone who loves you?’ You asked him, he continued looking out the windows down to the police cars and nodded. ‘Do you love them?’ You asked him, he lowered his hands. ‘Yes, I love him.’ He spoke up, you tilted your head to the side, letting him know you were interested. ‘What’s his name?’ You asked. ‘Derek.’ He said, you smiled and nodded. ‘Do you have someone who loves you?’ He asked you, you looked down. ‘I don’t know, I love him, but I don’t know if he loves me back.’ You told him truthfully, pulling off your gloves. ‘A ball of sunshine like you, he’s bound to.’ He told you, you smiled and looked up at him. As the bullet flew past you and landed on him, you quickly jumped up and grabbed the trigger before turning around and looked at Hank, with his gun drawn plus Jay and Kevin behind him, looking at you with wide eyes. ‘You need to get bomb squad up here now.’ You said, your hand gripped around the switch, moving back from them. ‘Why?’ Hank asked, you took a calm breath. ‘Because if I move my finger from here bombs will go off.’ You told them and they immediately moved out the room and away.
---
As you walked out the building, holding your helmet and mask you walked over to the truck and placed them down in front of it before you let out a deep sigh, resting your head on the cold metal. You heard footsteps approaching you, you lifted your head and noticed Hank, you smiled at him before he wrapped you in a tight hug. ‘He heard what you said.’ Hank told you, you looked at him confused before he motioned to Jay who was resting against the police car, giving you and Hank some space. ‘He’s good for you.’ Hank told you, you quirked an eyebrow at him. ‘So your admitting I was right?’ You teased, Hank rolled his eyes before nodding. ‘I suppose I am.’ He agreed with you, you smiled widely and pulled away for him. Hank nodded at you before walked over to Jay, he stood away from the car. ‘I love you.’ Jay said as he wrapped arms around you, you sighed into his neck as you pulled him close. He pulled you closer. ‘I love you too.’ You told him, pressing a kiss to his neck and he did the same.

------
Bells were ringing in the city of Chicago; your baby sister Stella was getting married today to, drum roll please…the love of her life Kelly Severide. You were over the moon; your little sister was finally having her happily ever after or so thought everyone.
“Baby I’m leaving I gotta be there in like 30 minutes!” You screamed at your fiancé Jay Halstead -and yes you had met him through Stella and Kelly- over a year ago when you came to Chicago for the first time in forever.
You shared a lot of similarities with Stella for sure, for example when you got pissed-you were unstoppable-. On the contrary while Stella had a soft side which she didn’t show often, you were all sunshine and rainbows -well that’s what trauma does to some people-. You had practically raised your sister, looking out for her, protecting her in any way you could. So today would be especial.
Now Jay had popped the question on your anniversary and 3 months later here you were in your own house -that you had bought together-, about to make sure that your sister walked down that freaking aisle. You heard a noise coming from the bedroom, so you went to check, just to feel a couple of arms wrapping around your waist and being tackled to the bed. Laughter was the only thing that could be heard in your home -home- it felt weird for you to call a place let alone a person home.
“Hey beautiful” Jay said hovering over you kissing your nose, while you giggled. “Hi handsome”
“So…are you really leaving?” he asked pouting like a baby, which made you grab his chin and kiss him, turning you both around so you were straddling him, until you pulled away with a mischievous smile biting your lip. Jay looked at you with a confused expression, just before you to bolted to the front door -you had to leave now, or you wouldn’t leave period-.
“Babe!” you heard him yell from your bedroom, you chuckled, “I love you, but I have to go. We have to make sure they get married” you exclaimed back, watching as he came out of the room slowly, looking at you like you had looked at him minutes ago, that’s when you knew -run-. With that you ran out of the house and into your truck, when you were about to close your door his hand caught it,
“Nope, Miss Kidd, were really you about to leave without giving me love, huh?” he leaned and captured your lips making you sigh, he always had that effect on you. And that made you think, that was why your relationship had worked so well. You both had a way of making the other fall deeply in love every day.
“Love you! See you there” you waved from the inside of your truck to Jay who was on the steps of the house waving back at you, big grin on his face.
You really didn’t have a big part on planning or arranging anything given your sister was a ‘big girl’ who didn’t want her big sisters help. Plus, you were starting to plan your own wedding so when she said she had it handled, it gave you time to focus on yours.
Nonetheless she did need help at one point -obviously, big sis knows best- which was finding the perfect venue which you didn’t hesitate to help arrange. The two of you found a miracle venue at the Crystal’s Garden, done, the location for the Severide-Kidd wedding was set.
Apart from every bump in the path, the wedding was happening today period, point, blank. Stella and Kelly had gone through a lifetime full of crap and you just wanted this day to go according to their plan -because you would do anything for Stella’s happiness, and that was guaranteed-.
You had finished getting ready along with the rest of Stella’s closest friends, and now you were all waiting for the bride to finish. You wore a knee long, thin strap red silk dress with a slit in the right leg -not to revealing, but enough- and some golden heels.
So, to kill some time, you stepped out of the room and into the room Kelly was in, knocking slightly,
“Hey Kelly, its Y/N. Can I come in?” “Yeah…” you stepped inside, and it was just Kelly there, he looked nervous, so you smiled lightly at him,
“You look great sis” at this you smiled “You showered?” which made Kelly shake his head while laughing. You stepped in front of him giving him a massive hug before whispering,
“Take care of her for me, okay?” your voice cracking a bit -god you swore you wouldn’t cry- but here you were about to let the whole storm down. “I will”
“You’re a good man Kelly. And I- I couldn’t be prouder of the both of you” you said about to start bawling which made Kelly give you a sincere smile and a hug, before you left the room to wait for Jay to arrive.
“Hey hon! I’m I late?” “Nope just in time” you said fixing his tie and pulling him by it to give him a kiss, which made him smile into it. You couldn’t wait to have this day with him.
A couple of minutes maybe an hour later, you were all walking towards the wedding venue, you and Silvie were helping Stella with her dress, Matt and Jay were making sure Kelly didn’t see the bride -it was funny- but the fun wouldn’t last forever, because luck was not something the people of Chicago had often -more so the people close to you-.
“Hey, don’t you dare turn around Kelly Severide” Stella said making everyone laugh, “If I hear that one more time this wedding is off” he responded breathing a laugh -you better fucking not- you thought.
“You really want both Kidd’s kicking your ass? Because I won’t get involved man. That would get me sleeping on the couch” Jay said while chuckling, which made Kelly whistle, “Damn”
“Keep talking Severide, let’s see how fast you can run” you interrupted making Kelly raise his hands in surrender. Arriving at the entrance of the venue,
“Hey, were here to check in for the Kidd-Severide wedding” Matt said. “So yeah, I tried to call, but the voice-mail was full” the man responded.
“So… we’re here now. Let us through!” you said from your sisters side getting a bad feeling about this situation. Jay glanced at you over his shoulder before hearing the man talk again.
“Well, the Millineck wedding is back on…” -no- you instantly looked at Stella not hearing the rest of his sentence.
“…we’ll get you guys in here next month” is this guy for real. Kelly questioned him again, Jay backing him up, there was no way this was happening right now it had to be a joke, a very cruel joke,
“Buddy, listen these two, they gotta hurry up and get it done. They have some serious commitment issues…” “Damn right…” you muttered under your breath, taking Stella’s hand in yours giving her a squeeze. Hearing how the man declined the money Hermman had offered in exchange for the wedding venue -didn’t think it was going to work, I mean at least he tried- you thought.
“So how about free security for 6 months? I can arrange something” Jay tried seeing the desperation in Stella’s and Kelly’s face, just to be turned down like Hermman.
“Mono, you told us they would have this place, you have to fix this. It’s the least you can do…” you exclaimed, while leaving Stella’s side and stepping forward, Jay grabbing your waist. “Baby calm down” he whispered in your ear, while you shook your head giving the man a desperate look.
“I made no mistakes” “Huh? The hell you did! -Hey! -Hey, you come back here and fix this” you tried to get his attention while he just walked away, leaving everyone in shock. Turning around you saw your sister expression,
“This is a disaster…” “Hey no no, it’s fine. We’ll fix it, we’ll find something” you said while hurrying to your little sisters side.
Everyone was trying to find some alternative to fix the situation at hand. Jay was calling Hank to see if some of his contacts could make this wedding happen. Hermman was pretty much almost planning a wedding on Molly’s, again.
“Nothing?” you asked Jay as he hung up his phone, lips tight in a line he shook his head, which made you rest your forehead against the car window since you both had taken the task of looking, and personally visiting every possible place in the city to have this wedding -so far it was all going to shit-.
“I really thought today was going to work. They deserve this- and that asshole…” “Shh hey… babe c’mon” “What, he is…” you whispered.
“Okay, he is”, feeling Jay’s hand grab yours and give it a kiss, just then Jay’s truck made a weird noise making the two of you furrow your eyebrows and look at each other in confusion…a fucking flat tire -couldn’t this day get any worse- yep it could.
“You have to be kidding me. God! Why?” -we’re screwed- you thought as the both of you looked for the spare tire just to remember Jay was having it fixed. That’s it…it can’t possibly get worse than this, or so you thought. Just then your phone rang and Silvie’s face popped up on the screen,
“Hey where are you guys. Casey found a tourist boat to have the wedding, the captain is going to marry them…” “shit, shit, shit” you said while opening the truck door, taking your bag and proceeding to take your heels off,
“Okay, okay we’ll be right there…” “Alright, I’ll wait for you guys at the entrance of Crystal’s Garden” “okay bye!” you exclaimed, then looking at Jay with wide eyes.
“Baby! We gotta run. They’re going to have the wedding in tourist boat” “A tourist boat?” “YES, a fucking tourist boat, and- We. Will. Not. Miss. It. You hear me?” Jay looked at you with wide eyes, nodding his head frantically -you were a sweetheart, but when you got pissed- well…
“Alright come on” Jay said while reaching his left hand for the heels in yours and grabbing your hand with his right one pulling you to run.
If someone looked at the both of you right now, they wouldn’t think much of it, maybe nothing was happening -oh but it was-. And by some miracle Jay had left his truck without hesitation -he loves that truck more than his life- which made you understand he knew how serious this was to you.
It wasn’t a secret to your friends that there has always been Stella and you against all odds. No matter what, you always had each other, and you weren’t about to miss her big day. Fuck the hot pavement and the dirty sidewalk, you were going to make it.
Almost arriving, you noticed Silvie standing waiting on you and Jay at the same spot you had last been before the whole venue catastrophe started. Noticing her, both of you ran in her direction,
“Why are you guys running?” “Our tire popped, didn’t have the other in the compartment” Jay explained -like he didn’t just run a freaking marathon- to Silvie who looked surprise and impressed.
“Fuck- I’m not the athletic sibling for a reason. I-I’m pretty sure I will die once this day is over” you panted clutching on to Jay’s arm while he rubbed your back chuckling, with Silvie’s amused look.
You had cried like a baby, you both made it in time for the whole ceremony, and you watch your sister exchange vows with her husband with happy tears in your eyes.
Now resting your back on you fiancé’s chest, your head on his shoulder, his arms wrapped securely around your waist. While he kissed the side of your head swinging slightly from side to side and quietly signing in your ear -which made you smile and giggle from time to time- watching everyone dance,
“hi…can I steal her for a moment Detective Halstead” Stella approached you both with a big smile as Kelly stood next to Jay, he nodded his head laughing at the way Stella dragged you to the dance floor,
“Hey Ella…” “Hi, Y/N/N” you whispered to each other smiling, reaching for a hug while swinging slowly to the music,
“T-thank you, for raising me…” “Shh, don’t… I would do it again in a heartbeat. I’m so proud of the woman you are Stella- Hey, I’m proud” you said pulling away and saying the last part looking into her eyes,
“…And…they’re crying” Kelly said making Jay laugh, while the two of them looked at their girls from the distance -you were the sentimental sibling, and Stella, well she cried if you cried-,
When you were about to pull away in order to walk back to Jay, you felt a hand pull you back,
“You really thought we were finish. Nah gurl!” in that moment you guys favorite song “Stand By You” started to play, making you pout. Stella grabbed your hand while the two of you smiled at each other, spinning around with open arms, pointing at one another and singing together.
“I’m gonna stand by you, even if we can’t find heaven…” she sang while you laughed. “…I’ll walk trough hell with you. Love, you’re not alone…” “Cause I’m gonna stand by you” you both singing the last part together, hugging one another tightly.
“Yup pretty sure they’re crying again” this time Jay said, “Without a doubt” Kelly followed while they both laughed at your expenses,
The night was coming to an end, it had been tough, but Firehouse 51 made everything possible -she had a village in her corner- and that was a fact.
“It worked out…” “We should elope” you said which made Jay’s head whip towards you eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Really?” “If this chaotic day showed me anything, is that it doesn’t matter the place it’s just the two of us. There’s no one else we need to make. Us. Work” he caressed your cheek giving you that handsome smile.
“What about Stella?” “She wouldn’t care, she doesn’t need me anymore…” you said looking at Stella in Kelly’s arms while they both laughed at Cruz dancing -before you continued- “…I’ve been putting us on hold for some time now. And I’m ready to marry you!” he chuckled kissing your forehead and resting his forehead with yours.
“I would marry you, in a sidewalk! As long as a get to spend the rest of my life with you Y/N” which made you stand on the tip of your toes cupping his face and kissing him deeply.
“Wait- sidewalk! Your truck!” you exclaimed, to what Jay whined throwing his head backwards, while you busted laughing.
It had been a truly weird and exhausting day. But as you looked at your baby sister in her husband’s arms while they danced, you knew she would be alright. And you couldn’t be prouder of the woman she grew up to be and the things she would do from this day forward.

General disclaimer: All stories are mine and I don’t give permission for them to be posted anywhere unless I explicitly say they can. None of the gifs are mine unless I say they are. I also do not give permission for my OCs (own characters) to be used in stories that aren’t my own.
Personal disclaimer: As a little note to new readers, I’ve been writing & posting on this blog since 2017. Many of my old fics make me cringe horribly & are kept undeleted for the sole reason that I know they still bring comfort to some people. (I like to think) I don’t write the same as I did when I was 15, so please do keep it in mind if you come across a story of mine that’s maybe a little…shit.
It’s also important to note that the reader in 99% of my fics is based on my OC (all female, sister/daughter) of that specific fandom. For example, the reader in my Witcher fics is written as my OC, Akela, with the pronouns changed to be reader-friendly. This is why the majority of my fics have readers with specific personality/appearance traits. Some of my fandoms are written with my OC instead of the reader. If you would like to read the OC version of a particular reader fic, just let me know.

It was her job (P1)
Note: Hi guys! This a tough one. I’d to split this fic in two parts cause it was too long otherwise. I choose Pelham cause he is the newbie and we have to give him material lol. This is like an intro cause P2 has more fluff and love birds. Enjoy xxx.
SIDE NOTE: My requests for Valentine’s day are open HERE if anyone wants to request something cause I’ll be writing those this week.
Summary: (Y/N) is Stevie Hammer's sister and when their mother returns to Chicago things get chaotic.
Fandom: Chicago Fire/ Chicago Med
Pairing: Jason Pelham x Hammer!Sister Reader.
WARNING: Mental health issues, homeless, wishing death, mental and physical abuse.
DISCLAIMER: GIF IS NOT MINE. English is not my first language.
Word Count: 3,5K.
You could feel your head almost exploding. It was the first call of the shift, but somehow you had had enough. Your mother came back to Chicago and, of course, she didn’t even have the decency to let her daughters know she had come back. It’s not like it changes you at all because in your head you stopped caring about your mother a long time ago. It sounded horrible, but that was how it was.
“I HATE YOU SO MUCH!” your mother yelled at the top of her lungs while you slid the stretcher into the ED with your paramedic partner. Despite being used to your mom’s tantrums; you couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed because the people you saw almost every day saw your mother like that. You didn’t want to imagine how your sister Stevie felt.
“I know that, mom, no need to scream,” you replied, rolling your eyes.
“I DON’T WANNA BE HERE” she yelled again, making you feel sick about this whole scene that she was playing.
“Well, you should have thought that before getting yourself into a street fight,” you told her while Stevie and Dr. Scott walk towards them.
“At my count, one, two, three,” Dr. Scott said as you noted that everyone in the ED seemed to know your mother and the trouble she always involved.
“What happened?” your sister asked approaching you “I thought she was on the road”
“Me too, but not only did she come back, but she got into a fight with another bum and it looks like she hit her head pretty hard and sprained her wrist,” you explained. Some people passing by had called 911 and as a paramedic, your ambulance had been called to attend to the incident. The idiot your mother pushed had passed out when he hit side of your mother's van. However, the other ambulance was already taking him to the hospital when you arrived on the scene.
“He was stealing from me!” your mother screamed, giving you an ugly look.
“I bet he was” You couldn’t help but roll your eyes. Something that your mother hated about you because you usually did it when you were tired of her.
“I HATE YOU SO MUCH” and then you didn’t see it coming. Your mother grabbed one of the medical trays and yanked it hard at you. When you turned around, the tray hit you square in the forehead and eye, causing you to lose your balance a bit and hit your head against the wall.
“Mom!” You heard Stevie’s scream, but you couldn’t move your head to look at her.
“I got the memo! You didn’t have to do that,” you complained, raising your hand to touch your forehead. You felt it wet and when you looked at your fingers, you saw that there was blood.
“Come on, I’ll look at that” Dr. Halstead approached you and you let him lead you to one of the empty exam rooms “Ok, let me see, are you ok?” he said as you felt the anger rising inside of you.
“Fine, I didn’t see it coming, that’s all,” you answered clearing your throat “Is this going to take a long time? Cause I’ve to take the ambulance out of service”
“I’ll tell your partner to do it,” He answered, leaving the room. You just sat on the table contemplating if suddenly the world wasn’t moving on its own. When Dr. Halstead returned a few minutes later you decided it was your head that was spinning and that nothing in the room was moving “Okay, talk to your partner about getting the ambulance off service, it looks like you have a pretty nasty cut so do you want me to do the stitches, or do you prefer Plastics to do it?”
“Stevie told me you dabbled in Plastics in med school so I have faith in you” Also, you wanted to have as little of a wait as possible so you could get as far away from your mother as possible from the hospital.
“Oh, ok, then I’ll do it but there are no refunds,” he gave you a smile
“If you give me a scar like Harry Potter, I won’t complain,” you added as you lay down on the stretcher “I’ve always been a fan“
“Do you feel any dizziness or nausea?” he asked as he picked up the suturing kit.
“I was wondering if it was me or if the room was spinning,” you told him
“I assure you that the room is not spinning so you may have a minor concussion after that hit, you need to rest so you should go home after this,” Dr. Halstead explained.
You sound a moan of frustration “Ugh, I’m so done with her tantrums”
“I’m sorry, Stevie told me about your mother and that sounds terrible “He gave you a rueful smile as he hovered over you to start things off “Stay still”
“She came back six months ago and I’m glad to have my sister back but mom lured her back into her nets,” You told him while you felt how the punctures began on your forehead, you tried not to wrinkle it so that the stitches would be as good as possible “I was happy for her when she left Chicago and started living her life”
“And you stayed here with your mother?”
“Yes, mostly took Stevie’s place, having everything under control” You shrugged
“I’m sorry”
“It’s okay, you know that Stevie always has everything together”
“Yeah, I know,” He said, giving you a lopsided smile “Didn’t know she had talked to you about me” You felt like there was something else behind his relationship with your sister.
“Not compliments, mostly told me how much of a pain in the ass you were in med school”
“In my defense, your sister is very competitive”
“I know she just loves to be right all the time,” You answered him while he cut the thread with the scissors
“Well, now you can go, check that pain, and if it gets worse, you need to come here,” He said, taking out his gloves “If not I’ll see you next week to take you those out”
“Thanks, I’ll get some rest. Sounds like a great idea right now” Your head was still spinning a bit, which you noticed right away when you got up from the table. You were going to have to take the ambulance ride back to the station and collect your things before you ordered an Uber to your apartment because you weren’t entirely sure you could drive without getting dizzy.
When you left the examination room, you noticed your partner was sitting at the nurses’ station looking at you with an understanding smile. You hated those smiles of pity, similar to the one Will gave you a few minutes ago.
“They told me I have to rest so I have to finish my shift early, I’ll call the chief when we get back to the ambulance to update him and get you a floater for the rest of the shift” Your partner nodded while you thought you had to text Jason to let him know you weren’t going to Molly’s that night.
“(Y/N)? A word?” your sister said, approaching you and pointing to the doctors’ launch. You smiled at your partner before following your sister into the room “Mom is stable”
“Fine,” you said before shrugging.
“Don’t you want to know the results of her scans or the labs?”
“Not at all” you answered shaking your head “I’m so done with her tantrums” you explained as you leaned against the table trying to concentrate on the conversation with your sister “and this time I’m seriously done with her, Stevie” you added your “nothing you say will make me change my mind”
“She’s probably going to need antibiotics, has an untreated wound on her foot that got infected, so we’ll have to watch her closely,” your sister said, crossing her arms.
“Didn’t you listen to me 10 seconds ago when I told you I was done with her?”
“We can’t just leave her alone, she’s mom,” Stevie explained.
You let out a sigh “I understand that you have always parented her and that you are used to taking care of her, but you have to let her be an adult and face real life”
“She’s sick, she tried but she can’t let go of old habits” You loved your sister more than anything but you hated it when she justified your mom’s actions.
“She just got back from a freaking road trip, Stevie! I’m sure she can decide for herself”
“You know she can’t,” Stevie said, and you decided you were losing patience.
“So, what are you going to do? Change her life? Get her van towed again so she can go back to live on your couch?” you asked, raising your brows.
“She doesn’t deserve to live under a bridge, (Y/N)”
“She doesn’t want to change her life, something that she has told you multiple times,” you pointed out while you scratched your forehead in a sign of concern.
“Then we keep insisting until she wants,” your sister refuted
“And how has that approach gone so far? You had his van towed and caused him to have an outbreak in the middle of your kitchen and run out in the middle of the night.” You didn’t want to sound harsh, but Stevie was ending up your patience and your head was spinning “It’s one thing to bring her food every week and quite another to keep pushing her to be something she’s not”
“Oh, sorry for not giving up so easily”
“Do you think I gave up easily? I’m tired of mom, I’m exhausted after taking care of her after you left,” you said and when you saw your sister open her mouth quickly, you added “I don’t blame you for leaving, I think it was the best thing you could have done”
“So we’re just supposed to stop trying?”
“The main difference between you and me is that you keep trying with mom and I already accept that nothing is going to change”
“The main difference between you and me is that I still care about what happens to her and I keep trying”
You stared at your sister briefly “I’m going to be inclined to believe that you didn’t mean that” you headed for the door before turning to look at her “Talk to later, Stevie”
After leaving Med, you kept thinking about how your mom always altered your life and your sister’s again. She always seemed to find a way to blame both of them for her misfortunes. Over time, you had understood that in reality your mother was used to living on the street and that she didn’t want to live any other way, either. She somehow found pleasure in finding a silk blanket in someone else’s trash or a feather pillow. Her mother viewed them as treasures, something she could simply afford if she had accepted their offer of a roof over her head.
Once you got to the station and headed to the locker room, you sat down on the bench. You were sure that the room was moving around. Otherwise, there was no other way to justify why your head hurt so much that you needed a few minutes before being able to gather all your things and put them in your bag. You went to your boss’s office to let him know you were already leaving, and I assure you he was going to take the ambulance out of service directly until the next shift. In the Uber on the way home, you called Jason, but you assumed he was on a call so you left him a voicemail.
“Hey babe, I guess you’re on a call” You were speaking as slowly as possible in an attempt not to get lost in your own words due to the headache “Uhm I had a little problem on a call today, nothing serious but it turns out that my mother is back in Chicago and had to give her a ride to Med” you sighed not sure whether to explain everything that had happened in a voicemail “Anyway, I’m on my way home now so call me when you hear this”
Once you got to your apartment, you curled up on the couch and made sure your phone was on ringtone before you started channel surfing. You woke up to the sound of someone knocking on your door and your dark apartment. A little confused, you took your phone to see the time and saw that it was already night.
“(Y/N) are you there?” You recognized Jason’s voice from the other side of the door. Throwing aside the blanket, you got up and opened the door.
“Sorry, I fell asleep, and then I didn’t hear the phone,” you replied, stepping aside to let him in.
“What happened to your face?” he asked a little louder than you expected, walking in and reaching out to touch your face. Only then did you feel how your face hurt on the right side where the tray had hit you.
“Wait, what?” You closed the door and approached the mirror that you had next to the door. Then you noticed you looked like shit. You had the stitches in the wound that your mom had left on your forehead and a bruise on the right side that went from the side of the eye to the cheek. If you didn’t know what happened this morning you’d think it was makeup “My mom and I had a fight today at Med and she got creative and throw a medical tray over my head”
Jason frowned, and you noticed the tension building between his eyebrows. “Are you okay?” he asked him and you knew he was not asking if you were okay physically but mentally.
“Yes, she threw one of his usual tantrums, that’s all,” you said, shrugging as you felt the pain in your head return. You knew that if Stevie would have been there, she would give you a speech about how bad it was to sleep when you had a concussion.
“How did she end up in the ED?” He asked, taking off his coat and leaving it on your rack.
“Some people who were passing by the bridge called 911 because of a bum fight, mom pushed one and then they pushed her, of course, she had come back without bothering to tell me or my sister” You explained “Classic Terry“ you added shaking your head “And she didn’t want to go to the hospital and had to make a whole scene about it that ended with her throwing a medical tray at my head”
“And your sister?” he asked, placing his hands on your shoulders.
“My sister and I are not on good terms right now,” you told him with a shrug “I decided that I’m done with my mother”
Jason gave a small nod and pulled you closer to him “How’s your head?”
“It hurts a little, now I don’t feel dizzy anymore, but when I left the hospital I felt as if everything was spinning,” you answered, laying your head on his chest.
“How sounds dinner? I can make something,” he offered
“That sounds amazing, I’m starving actually,” you said, closing your eyes and allowing yourself to take in his scent briefly before pulling away from him.
“I’m going to check the cabinets,” he said, and you nodded before shuffling towards the couch. One thing you liked about your apartment was that the living room and kitchen were in the same room, only separated by a breakfast bar. You mainly liked it because you could watch TV while you cooked.
“How about spaghetti with sauce?” He asked, showing you the box of spaghetti in his hand.
“Ugh, you know how much I love spaghetti,” you moaned with your head resting on the pillow with your eyes closed
“I know and since you are injured, I want to pamper you”
“I love you so much,” you moaned, almost imagining the smell of home cooking filling your home.
“We’ve been together for almost three years I thought you had a crush on me before spaghetti,” he replied, raising a brow as he got things out to make dinner.
“A little,” you replied, winking at him, “but don’t tell anyone”
“It’s good to know that you keep your sense of humor” he commented as you picked up your phone to see that you had a message from your sister asking how you were doing and updating you on your mother’s status, you ignored Stevie’s text since you didn’t feel like it.
“I’m sorry I didn’t answer your calls” you apologized getting up from the couch and approaching him
“Okay, I was worried and after leaving 51, I came here,” he explained.
“I can help,” you offered
“Are you sure? What about your head?”
“It hurts a little but I can’t go back to sleep either,” you took the board to cut the onion for the sauce. They both fell into silence for a few minutes until you broke it “I used to wish her dead, you know?” you said suddenly as you walked past him to throw the onion in the pan “I used to think that would end all my problems when I was younger, I was always waiting for that one call” you sighed leaving the table in the sink “That call that would tell me that mom had an overdose or that some bum killed her” you looked up from what you were doing to look at him “I wanted her dead so bad, I was so angry, for what she has done to me, to my sister”
“You were? And now?” Jason asked, putting aside what he was doing to look at you.
“It’s hard to explain, but she always used to go first, for my sister first and then for me, my mom always had problems we had to solve or fix” You never talked about your mother much, of course, Jason knew the whole story later of those years together but for you, it was still difficult to tell someone everything that had happened. Mainly because for a long time and especially when you were a teenager, you tried to hide it.
“She was the adult and she should have taken care of you”
“I know, the rational part of my head knows it but for a long time I justified her and her actions, my sister still does it” You sat on the counter “She acts like a child and I get it, she is sick” Dr. Charles had told Stevie that your mother possibly had depression, anxiety, and even possible bipolar disorder, confirming the suspicions both of you had always had about your mother’s mental health.
“You say your sister justifies your mom but you’re doing the same thing right now,” he replied, approaching you and placing himself between your legs “She was the adult and should have kept a roof over your head”
“She took away Stevie’s childhood making her take care of her,” you said as you rested your head on his shoulder “But she still cares, I mean she looks at her and she still loves her as her mother,” you added before surrounding him with your arms “I just, I can’t do that”
“You can’t blame yourself for not loving her,” Jason told you rubbing your back “She did nothing to earn your love as a mother either”
That was one thing that you had realized. In reality, your mother had simply never attempted to be your mother, nor did she did normal things like any mother. She had never held a job, hadn’t even done it for her two daughters and their well-being. Your mother had always been a disaster on her own.
“I know, but even when I promise myself I’ll cut off all contact she feels like it’s my fault like I should have taken better care of her somehow,” you muttered allowing yourself to close your eyes for a few minutes to inhale his scent.
“You are not her mother, she is yours,” he replied. It was as if Jason knew exactly what to say and that he wanted what you needed to hear. He put a strand of hair behind your ear before brushing his lips with your cheek and whisper, “You did everything right, everything”
It was as if suddenly he had taken a backpack of bricks from your shoulders and even though you were not completely sure, you believed in his words “Thanks, babe”
“It’s okay to let all of this go away,” he replied, kissing you on the forehead before separating from you to check the sauce.
You wanted to believe that you were doing the right thing, that for once in your life you were putting yourself first and prioritizing what was best for you before putting your mother and her mess before you.

I Am The Apocalypse
Pairings: Jay Halstead x Reader; Kelly Severide x Reader (Platonic)
Warnings: Mentions of injury, Mentions of blood
Summary: Mini Episode rewrite of Chicago Fire S03x19 where reader was in Med when the blast went off.
A/N: First Chicago/Jay fic so I hope it’s okay~ Just something that popped in my head while I was rewatching so I just penned it down. Wrote it mainly from reader’s POV so only picked off parts where I felt would fit!
---
(Y/N POV)
I sipped my coffee at the table, dressed in Jay’s hoodie, which was my personal favourite, watching him pour his coffee.
“I can feel you staring.” He chuckled, as another lady stuck her head into the kitchen.
“Hey… Hi. Morning…” Jay glanced at her awkwardly.
“Melanie.” She responded, stepping into the kitchen.
“Jay. Will’s brother.” He responded, handing her the coffee cup.
“It’s nice to meet you.” She responded with a smile, as I watched the exchange with amusement. She seemed to just realise my presence and gave a polite nod before shuffling out of the kitchen to meet Will in the living room.
I raised my eyebrows at Jay who laughed and poured another cup of coffee for himself.
“When do you have to be at work?” Jay asked his brother, a cheeky smile lingering on his face, as Will entered the kitchen.
Will looked at his watch, “About five minutes ago?”
Jay exchanged a look with me. “It’s your first day.” He commented to his brother, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Uh, first and last, as it turns out.” Will replied, not looking up from the refrigerator.
Jay froze. “You’re… joking?”
Will shook his head. “No.”
I checked my phone, vaguely registering the conversation Jay was having with his brother about him returning to New York.
“Just give it a couple of weeks.” Jay paused before adding, “At least.”
Will turned to face Jay and shrugged. “I got to go.” Will turned to leave, adding, “Bye Y/N.”
I waved, gulping down the last of my coffee as Jay turned back to me with a sigh. I smiled and he took the empty mug from my hands, running it under water in the sink.
As I made to get up, my head gave a dull throb. Again. This stupid migraine hadn’t let up for at least a week. I closed my eyes and frowned, waiting for it to pass, pausing in my movement to get up from the table.
“Y/N?” I could feel Jay hovering over me now.
I cracked my eyes open, looking up at him. “I’m fine. It’s just that stupid migraine.”
Jay’s expression softened. “Maybe you should get that looked at.” He suggested, gently stroking my hair.
I nodded, “Yeah, maybe I’ll go to Med later.”
“I gotta go. Text me, okay?” Jay said, planting a kiss on the top of my head.
I smiled. “Be safe!” I called after him as he turned to give me a wink.
---
I had decided to make Med my first stop of the day after all and I was already sitting in a chair in the waiting room after registration. I had barely been there for 5 minutes when the waiting room became crowded with familiar faces of incoming firefighters from Firehouse 51, supporting incoming patients.
I nodded greetings to those who noticed me as they helped people in. I had been at 51 with Kelly as well as Molly’s with Jay enough times to be on familiar terms with most of them. I settled in for what I was sure was going to be a long wait, only looking up when I heard Kelly’s voice calling out, “Kendra!” as he helped the man he was supporting into a wheelchair.
Kelly glanced around and spotted me. “Y/N? You okay? What are you doing here?” He took a step closer to me.
I smiled at him. “I’m fine, just a persistent migraine, thought I’d better check it out. What’s up?” I asked, motioning to the room flooding with other firefighters.
Before Kelly could respond, a nurse stepped forward. “Everyone, may I have your attention please?” Her call was in vain to the bustle of the now full waiting room. Kelly glanced at her before calling at the top of his voice. “Listen up!”
The emergency room fell to silence almost immediately. She smiled gratefully at Kelly before turning to address everyone else. “All right, we are going to have a very full day here and I understand none of you feel well. But we’re going to need help from you as well as patience. If you’re here because of the ammonia leak…”
My attention trailed off as I noticed a patient get up and make his way nearer to her. My gut gave an uneasy churn as I watched him and I glanced over at Kelly but he wasn’t paying attention to me any longer.
The man dragged a chair towards him, stepping onto it. The nurse had now noticed him. “Sir, not yet, please. I need everyone…”
He swayed a little before he looked at everyone. “If you thought Ebola was a nightmare, I am the apocalypse!”
My eyes caught the grenade in his hand. “Kelly!” I shouted, as the man pulled out the pin.
“Death to all Americans. You’re all dead in two weeks!”
Kelly spun around as I saw Casey exit the treatment room that he had been in.
“Allahu akbar!” he screamed.
I watched in horror as Kelly sprinted towards him, pushing the nurse out of the way and flinging the man onto the ground, the sounds of the explosion drowning out my voice screaming my friend’s name.
----
The aftermath of the explosion was nothing but chaos. I heard firefighters running around, trying to contain the panic, as well as the people who were trying to run out of the emergency room.
“Hey, you okay?” I looked up.
“Y/N?” Will asked again when I didn’t respond.
“Yeah, I think so.” His eyes raked over me. “Let me take a look.” I let Will do what he needed to do and answered questions that he asked me. Satisfied that I wasn’t seriously hurt, he squeezed my shoulder. “Stay here,” he instructed before heading over to another badly injured patient.
I could hear several instructions being called out but only one caught my attention.
“Hey, hey over here! It’s Severide!”
My head snapped up and I clambered to my feet. As everyone came around him, calling his name. Sylvie grabbed his wrist, “It’s a weak pulse.”
Will quickly rushed over. “Let me see.”
Feeling his pulse at his neck, Will looked up. “No. Black tag him. He’s gone.”
I felt my heart drop into my gut. Even I knew what that meant.
Peter spun around to look at Will. “What?”
Will met Peter’s gaze. “The percentages are very low that he’ll…”
A look of rage passed Peter’s face. “I don’t give a damn about percentages.”
Will faltered and I reached out to touch his shoulder, my voice shaking a little. “Will… please…”
Will glanced at me before looking back at Peter. “No problem. Grab a gurney.” I watched as they busied putting Kelly onto a gurney, my heart giving another uncomfortable squeeze as I heard Casey report back to their fire chief outside.
I wasn’t sure how long I stood there in a daze, long after they had wheeled Kelly away. “Hey,” I felt a hand on my arm. I turned to face the nurse who had been trying to control the crowd before the explosion. “Are you okay?”
I nodded, before shrugging. “You’re April, right?” I asked her, as she looked at me quizzically before smiling.
“Yeah, I’ve heard a lot about you from Kelly. I’m Y/N.” I motioned in the direction of the treatment room Kelly was now in. She smiled back but glanced at the cut on my forehead. “Let’s just take care of this, okay?”
April helped to plaster a band-aid on my forehead, commenting that it was a miracle I wasn’t that badly hurt.
----
(Jay’s POV)
I turned into the hospital, climbing out of my car before picking up my phone to dial Y/N’s number.
Pick up, come on.
As the ringing died out, I desperately tried Will’s number. “Are you in there?”
“I am. Listen, the guy who blew himself up in here said he had something worse than Ebola.”
I froze. “What, like, he’s spreading it with this?” The pit in my stomach was expanding.
Will affirmed it. “Yeah, every single one of us in here has been in contact with him.” I could almost feel the fear bubbling up inside of me.
“Who is he?” I demanded.
Will’s response didn’t help. “No idea. Do us all a favour and find out, would you?”
“Will, wait…” The line went dead before I could ask him anything else.
In desperation, I dialled her number again, hoping she would answer.
---
(Y/N POV)
Thanking April, I got up as she moved on to help Will and Gabriela with another patient.
As I stood, I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket, exhaling a breath as I stared at Jay’s name flashing back at me.
“Jay?” I answered.
“Tell me you’re not in there.” I could hear Jay’s voice laced with worry.
“Yeah, I am. Sorry.” I replied, looking around at the carnage.
“Damn it.” He cursed under his breath.
Even in this situation, I could imagine the look on his face. “Jay, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
I could hear him sigh. “Look, Will is there too, so…”
I interrupted him. “Yeah, I know. He’s looked me over already, okay? Don’t worry, I’ll see you soon.”
“Y/N…” I could hear his reluctance.
“Jay… you do what you got to do to get us out of here.” I paused. “I love you.”
Jay let out another breath on his end. “Be safe. I love you.”
We hung up and I headed towards a corner of the room, squatting next to a mother and daughter when a part of the ceiling came crashing down, as the girl to scream in fright.
I turned to her. “Hey, what’s your name, sweetheart?” I eyed Otis who ran over armed with an extinguisher to fight the flames and I continued to talk to her, successfully distracting her from the fire. Her mother smiled in thanks at me and I just smiled back. “It’s going to be alright.” I reassured her, my eyes falling again on the treatment room Kelly had been wheeled into, not sure if I was reassuring her or myself.
I looked up again as some firefighters entered the emergency room with ladders and extra extinguishers, knowing this wasn’t a good sign. They clambered up the ladders, changing extinguishers the moment they emptied one. April was going around the room trying to reassure everyone and I squeezed the little girl’s hand and smiled at her.
“Fire’s out!”, “All clear!” The firefighters shouted, clambering down from the ladders.
---
(Jay’s POV)
I stood next to Adam, surveying the computer in front of us inside the makeshift tent we were stationed in.
“Detective.”
I turned to glance in the direction of the voice of Sharon Goodwin, noting the couple following behind her.
“The parents of…”
She didn’t need to say more. I motioned to a few chairs. “Hi. Please have a seat.”
“Is there anything you can tell us?”
The man looked up with pleading eyes. “He was a smart boy. Always nice, helpful. This country has given our family so much. How could this have happened?”
I looked away for a moment. “He claimed to be infected with something similar to Ebola.”
They looked up in horror, as the man closed his eyes, almost as if in defeat. “From his work.”
I frowned, “What do you mean, from his work?” Adam shifted his weight.
“He was working at BHO Labs. They study infectious diseases.”
I looked at Adam. “We got to get somebody down there right now.”
Adam nodded, “I’m on it.”
I turned back to the parents, “What else can you tell me? Anything about who he might have been involved with, planned this with?”
I needed to focus on this. I needed to get them out of there.
---
(Y/N POV)
Casey stopped in front of me. “How we doing?”
I nodded back at him. He glanced at the mother and daughter next to me. “I’m working on getting some food and water in here. Okay?” He smiled before getting up, patting my shoulder.
I watched his retreating back but was distracted by someone calling out to him. “Hey fireman!”
I watched as Casey turned towards the man, who towered over him. “What’s the latest?” he demanded.
Casey frowned. “Everyone’s doing all they can.”
The man’s voice rose again. “What the hell does that mean? No one is telling us anything!”
I flinched; shouting wasn’t something I handled very well.
Casey moved towards him, trying to ask him to calm down. He seemed to give up the fight against Casey, squatting down next to the counter but the next minute, I heard Gabby’s voice, “Matt!” as the big guy swung a pipe towards Casey.
I pushed myself further back into the wall, shutting my eyes, hearing the scuffling sounds. If everyone would just calm the hell down and focus on what mattered, the faster we could probably get out of here. I focused my thoughts on Jay, trying to even out my breathing so that I could prevent a panic attack.
“You doing okay?” Will asked, grabbing my elbow.
My eyes snapped open, darting towards the other side of the room where Casey and April seemed to have handled the situation pretty well.
“Come on, why don’t you come with me.” Will muttered, pulling me up and leading me into a room. Herrmann was inside talking to a doctor, who Will introduced as Diane Claman.
I stood in the corner of the room as Will’s phone rang, and I heard Jay’s voice on the other end of the line. Even at this distance, it felt reassuring.
“He was working with Marburg, he injected himself with it.” Will repeated to Diane.
“What’s Marburg?” Herrmann asked, frowning a little.
Diane looked at us. “It’s a viral haemorrhagic fever. The Soviets developed it as a biological weapon.” Herrmann and I exchanged a look as she turned back to Will. “Ask them which strain of the Marburg virus.”
“Which strain?” Will’s voice broke the silence again.
“Ravn.” He repeated.
Jay must have said something and Will hung up with an “All right.”
Diane looked up again. “Okay, so now I just have to see if he was past the incubation period and actually infectious.”
For the first time, I spoke up. “And if he was past the incubation period?”
Will looked at me and shook his head slightly.
“It means Aleem was a walking biological weapon.” A grim silence fell across the room.
----
I had wandered to where the rest of the firefighters had gathered, outside the treatment room where Kelly was in.
I could see the doctor extract a piece of shrapnel from Kelly and just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a spurt of blood shot out from Kelly’s open wound. I heard Sylvie’s voice, “Arterial bleeder!”
I bit my lip as I felt someone take my hand. Gabby gave me a small smile, squeezing my hand. We turned back to the room, as the machine slowly showed Kelly’s vitals stabilising and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
A few minutes later, Herrmann emerged from another treatment room, looking dazed. Everyone looked up at him. “What is it?”
Herrmann let a small smile grace his lips. “Not contagious.” The sense of relief flooded the room as Diane stepped out. “Influenza A tested positive, but the Marburg virus didn’t have time to incubate. Whatever he had in his body died with him.”
The sigh of relief was audible as everyone hugged each other.
Will looked at me and smiled, nodding. “Open up the ER!” he announced, looking around.
---
(Jay’s POV)
I heard the vague sounds of the firefighters cheering outside and looked at Adam.
He nodded, motioning for me to head outside. I patted him on the back, jogging towards the ER, looking above all the heads to see if I could spot her.
--
(Y/N’s POV)
The only thing I wanted to do was to get out of here.
I looked towards Casey.
“Severide’s fine. We won’t be able to see him until tomorrow, anyway. Go.” He reassured me, guiding me towards the exit.
I stumbled out, wincing slightly at the bruises all over my body but peered.
I spotted him almost instantly, the worried lines across his face, scanning the crowd.
“Jay.” I breathed, heading straight for him. I crashed into his arms as I heard Jay’s sigh of relief in my ear. “Oh my god.” He muttered, pulling me into him, wrapping his arms around my body and cradling my head. I could feel how relieved he was as he sank his body into mine.
Quickly, he pulled away, surveying me at arm’s length. “Are you hurt?” he demanded.
I smiled, putting my hand against his cheek. “Bruised, but nothing serious.” I smiled.
“Thank God.” He pulled me back into his arms, holding me tightly as if he was never going to let me go.
Gently he broke away again, kissing me on the forehead. “Come on.” He muttered, gently leading me towards the white tents that I could now see.
“Halstead, get out of here.” Antonio appeared in front of us.
Jay paused, studying Antonio.
“I got you. Go on, get out of here.” Antonio winked at me and I nodded back at him gratefully.
“Thanks.” Halstead and Antonio fist bumped each other and Jay helped me into his car.
We didn’t say much on the ride back but Jay never let go of my hand.
We drove straight to his apartment and I headed straight for the shower, my bruised body welcoming the relief of warm water. Once we were cleaned up, Jay crawled into bed with me and I welcomed it, glad the day was over.
Jay put his chin on the top of my head. “You really scared me today.” He whispered.
My arms wrapped around his torso, I looked up at him.
“If I lost you” his voice trailed off.
I leaned further into his embrace. “Honestly? I was scared too. Kelly got hurt… I was afraid I was going to lose him… afraid I wasn’t going to be able to see you again… I…” I paused before continuing, “Thanks for being here, Jay.”
Jay tilted my chin gently up so that I was looking at him and smiled. “Always.” Leaning forward, Jay pulled me into a deep kiss, which I leaned into, grateful that this day had ended as well as it could have.

You had spent the night in that chair. Nothing changed, she didn't wake up yet. Lee Henry was at school, against his protests. After shift Mouch came down to the hospital. He came alone cause they didnt want to overwhelm you. Herrmann was giving them updates. Though there wasn't much.
"Dr. Halstead is she going to wake up soon?" You sit up in the seat as he walks in.
"Her body needs time to rest so she might be asleep for a little while."
"Okay." You say as herrmann walks in with a soda for you. "Thank you." You smiled opening it. Halstead finishes checking everything out before leaving the hospital room.
"Your welcome. Cindy called your school. Lee Henry is going to be bringing your homework here so you don't get behind." Herrmann sits down.
"Okay." You adjust yourself in the seat and look at the tv that was playing some random movie you hadn't been paying much attention to.
"Hey y/n." Lee Henry walks into the room. "How's your mom?"
"She hasn't woken up yet but Dr. Halstead is hopeful."
"That's good right? If a doctor is hopeful." He says tossing his bookbag down by your chair.
"Yeah."
—
"What did you get for question 7?" You asked Lee Henry. You needed a distraction so you were doing the homework.
"Uh C."
"Thanks."
"You know they're not expecting you to finish all the homework right away." Christopher says from where he and Cindy sat.
"I just need a distraction." You mumble jotting down answers.
"Okay. Don't over work though kid." He tells you looking at the tv. It was playing a random movie that no one was really paying attention to.
"Hey." Dawson says as her and Casey peak into the hospital room. "How is she?"
"She's stable hasn't woken up though." Hermann says getting up to hug her. You look up at the couple from your homework.
"How are you doing y/n?" Casey asks, you've met him and Dawson. Your often tag along to the firehouse with the herrmann kids. Even go to the family barbeque as long as your mom didnt work. So no one at the firehouse is a complete stranger to you.
"Fine." You shrug putting the pencil down.
"Whatcha doing?" Casey walks over looking at the piece of paper. "History?"
"Yeah." You say writing another answer down. "You want to help?"
"No I'm done with high school." He chuckles patting your shoulder.
"Whatever." You shrug. Everyone:s attention going to the bed as the machines begin beeping and your mom started seizing. You jump to your feet standing next to the bed. "Mom!"
"Help! We need a doctor!" Lee Henry gets up hurrying out of the room. Casey pulls you away from the bed and out of the room when the doctors come in. Once the doors get shut he lets go of you. Cindy is quick to pull you into a hug, you cry into her shoulder.
Nothing was said as you pulled out of the hug and followed Christopher to the waiting room. Everyone sits down in the waiting room. You sat in between Herrmann and Cindy, Lee Henry sat next to Cindy, with Gabby on the other side of him. Casey sits next to Gabby, looking over at you. You have your knees brought to your chest and you're staring at the wall.
You didn't react as Herrmann wrapped an arm around your shoulder. You stayed staring blankly at the wall until Will comes out. You stand up breaking from your trance.
"Is she okay?" You asked.
"She has some internal bleeding around her heart that we didn't catch originally. We have to take her into surgery again to try and stop it." He explains.
"Okay." You say. He nods before going back into he room. A couple moments later they come out and take your mom to surgery. You sit back down in your seat, and Herrmann wraps an arm around your shoulders again this time you lean into him. Casey sneaks off to update the house and get drinks. He gets the adults coffee while he got you and Lee Henry hot chocolate. He passes the drinks out before sitting back in his seat.
———
Matt and Gabby had to leave since gabby had to get to Molly's. Mouch and Trudy offered to come down but Christopher declined. You didn't look like you wanted visitors. Besides Dawson was raising money for you and your mom at the bar. Anyway Lee Henry was now sat beside you trying to comfort you. You weren't breaking down, you were frozen. You eyes hadn't left the door since they took your mom back there. You drank your hot cocoa but you didn't look away from the door. You also haven't said anything. So Lee Henry is unsure of how to help you. He was holding your hand and trying to get you to talk or something.
You snapped from your haze as Will walks out. The look on his face didn't bring you much comfort.
"Is she okay?" You stood up.
"The bleed was worse than we originally thought it was. They couldn't save her." He says softly. You felt numb, everything happened so fast as Christopher pulled you into a hug letting you cry into his shirt. Once you pull from the hug with Herrmann Cindy pulls you into another one.
"It's going to be okay." She whispered in your ear. You said nothing as you pulled from the hug. You now notice that Herrmann was no where to be found.
"Where's Christopher?" You asked softly.
"The doctor had to talk to him about something." Lee Henry explains. You nodded sitting back down, he follows wrapping an around you. You rest your head his shoulder.
"It's not fair." You mumble. Herrmann walks back in, looking angry.
"Cindy." Herrmann takes her off to the side to talk. You and hennry looked at them confused but neither of you didn't say anything.
"Whatever it is they'll handle it." Lee Henry assures you.
"It's probably about where I'm gonna go." You mumble. "I have no one now." You wipe the tears from your eyes.
"You still have me, and my family." He assures, "maybe they'll let you live with us, we can share room, we already said we'd be roommates after high school. This is pretty much the same thing."
"No it isn't."
"Yes it is. No arguing you're in distress." He gently pushes your head back down when you tried to lift it to argue with him.
"Shut up." You mumble. He was going to respond but his parents started walking back over. You sat up ready for whatever news they have for you. You already hear the worse news of your life so whatever they're going to say isn't gonna change much.
"DCFS is on their way. We're going to talk to them to see if you can live with us. We don't know if your mom had a plan in place for where you'd go." Christopher tells you.
"I thought you didn't want more kids?" You asked. You don't why that was the first thing you thought of but it was.
"We don't want more babies. Besides your pretty much our kid anyway you're always at our house." Cindy tells you.
"We're gonna be siblings." Lee Henry told you. Your friendship has always been like siblings anyway. You nod to show you were listening but you didn't say anything. Sure you love the Herrmann family they're your home away from home but you didn't want them. You want your mom, you need your mom.
"Let's not get that far ahead of ourselves now." Herrmann says. He looked at you, you still had tears streaming down your face but you weren't sobbing anymore. "Kiddo you're going to be okay."
"I hope you're right."
