Frank and Home anon here, since i wanted to expand on my idea from the other blog. ive been having brainrot with these two since those doodles of Home kicking Franks ass in chess. i feel like the ship works??? weirdly well??? like, Home obv has some cryptid stress stuff going on in your blog lore, and i love the idea of him being the goofy one while Frank, the guy who watches butterflies and goes bird watching, is the grumpier one among the two. The 1975 Game Mansion in Gatlinburg, TN is for sale. It's been an Airbnb short term rental w/a game theme, (but i really think that it could've been done nicer). The lodge on the property has 7bds, 5ba, and sleeps 20. Asking $1.175M.

The entrance hall has an inexpensive black & white checkered floor and just a black Parsons table. You can see the game logos on the stairs. IMO I feel that this home was a DIY Airbnb.

According to the "map" on the wall, it's called the GO! Lodge.

I'm a little confused, b/c the "mansion" also has some game decor.

The rooms are jumbled in the real estate photos as usual, but the main house is rustic and the rooms are not used for their intended purposes. This would be a family room and it has a football theme. Sort of.

Now, in the corner of the family room there's a bar. They placed 4 large games in here.

The dining room has a puzzle theme, and they've got boxes of puzzles on the shelves.

It doesn't look like the kitchen is used. I don't know, do you usually go out to eat when you're in an Airbnb?

They removed the dishwasher. There's a single cup coffee maker for guests to use, though, and what looks like a toaster.

I like this one for its subtlety. You look at this and think, "It's just a chess board." But look and look a little closer you see some pieces are missing. I can't imagine something aging worse than this ad. The Twin Towers were PACKED with asbestos. Yeah this may not be a meme but how fucking funny is this? The towers going down was probably an extremely good thing considering this. You could spin it that Isis or whoever was trying to save america by stopping the asbestos. "Use asbestos, save lives" that's such a tag line to have for something that causes cancer, I love this image so much.

i had a very important realization while i was out walking today. out of the main four vnc characters, noé is the one we know the least about. he fits into a category of what i would call the glass protagonist–a guy who basically exists only to narrate the story, joining the ranks of those like nick carraway and richard papen, except he's just like way more mysterious.

see, part of what makes a narrator like nick work narratively is that we know just enough about him to 1) understand his perspective on the events of the story and 2) know what his role in the story is. nick is able to give his insider/outsider view of gatsby because he is neither part of the buchanans' world nor part of gatsby's, and his role in the story is to serve as a kind of mediator between the two of them. he's daisy's cousin in long island, but he's also a working man in city, etc, etc.

the funky thing about noé is we just...don't know anything about him. we're told a couple of things about his childhood; that he was adopted by an old couple in the human world, that they died and he was somehow on sale in altus, and that the comte took him in. but really, the time before and after louis's death is uncannily empty for the guy who we're following through this world. yes, of course it's fair to say that we know the most important things about noé, but we honestly know way more of vanitas's childhood than his, and that's a big part of the central mystery of the story.

(there's an element to this, of course, that comes from both of the examples i gave before, the great gatsby and the secret history, being novels. as readers, we get an extra level of introspection from nick and richard that is very difficult to translate directly into manga as a medium. however, i would argue that it's not impossible, and all that being said it does sometimes feel intentional on mochijun's part just how little of noé's background she's shown us.)

both nick and richard narrate their respective stories onto the reader from their position as outsiders, which we know is noé's role in vnc from the get-go. i mean, he says this explicitly in chapter one: "this is the tale of how i met vanitas, and how we walked together, of all we gained and lost, and of how, at the end of that journey, i would kill him with my own two hands". he's the narrator and this is his story, just like nick and richard, right?

but while nick and richard are the narrators, and give us, the readers, an excuse to look into their worlds, they are not exactly essential players on the board. both the great gatsby and the secret history give the impression that, without their narrators, they would have continued nearly exactly as written; the characters were doomed to fail long before the story began, and the intervention of some white guy isn't enough to either stop that. and yes, vanitas is doomed as well, but we are introduced to his death as an event that is intrinsically tied to noé himself.

"with my own two hands", noé says. he is not only an actor in the saga leading up to vanitas's demise, he is a starring player in it. (and yes, we ofc later learn that vanitas is going to die with or without noé's intervention but i think it's important to understand that this is our introduction to noé, vanitas, and the story itself) in this way, noé differentiates himself from his glass counterparts, in that he inserts himself irrevocably into the plot. he is both a character in the story and an observer, a chess piece and the one playing the game. this is why the gaps in his backstory feel so jarring, at least to me, because we are not meant to view him as solely a window into the world of vnc, but as a character all on his own.

anyways, all that being said, i'm hoping with the introduction of lady archiviste we're finally going to learn more about noé and his time with the comte, just because it's like a HUGE gap in the story.

1. We have been playing board games for millennia

Chess, checkers, backgammon and Go all have origins in the ancient world. King Tut was buried with multiple sets of an Egyptian game called senet. My nana is requesting for a "sungka" coz we used to play it... These days I really want to buy board games coz I used to have it way back... what is work-life balance? he never sees a healthy relationship between the two with the tri-commission breathing down his back.

if he's not working, he's training. if he's not training, he's dead asleep. if he's not dead asleep, you'll finally get to see him with his sister and thoma.

some work takes forever, and he has to sift through hundreds of papers and books. he usually doesn't sleep during these times, much to thoma's and ayaka's worry.

about 60-70% of his job is writing: sending letters to branches, invitations to celebrations, settling disputes, and everything in between. the perfectionist in him makes it so many rough drafts are wasted. because of this, paper sales are highly inflated and usually only make it to the tri-commission and the narukami shrine.

leisure.

when you see ayato come out of his workstation for the first time in about a week, you can bet he'll be doing nothing but napping or training.

luckily, he finds both his hobby in caligraphy and his training in the arts quite relaxing compared to the pent up struggles that take up the majority of his work.

he has a tendency to take a stroll around inazuma city without telling his servants, causing bouts of panic throughout the kamisato estate. his infrequency in showing his face makes him barely recognizable to the majority of civilians.

he often gets spotted by itto, and gets challenged to many rounds of tcg and many more rounds of onikabuto duels. it's charming.

gifts.

he's always been fond of the idea of giving gifts to one another, and enjoys the trade of small collectibles and trinkets to those he holds dearest.

he cherishes anything he receives, regardless of the sentiment the gifter had of the item. he hoards his items until the end, or until the servants can convince him to gift it somewhere else.

he especially loves overseas gifts, like the imported chess board from mondstadt made of the finest cedar wood available.

thoma usually leaves to visit the windblume festival, but always comes home just in time with a new recipe or small trinket for ayato. sometimes ayato will attempt to gift thoma something in return, but is usually declined because "that's not how birthdays work", or something.

ayato usually plans his own birthdays, but some years he'll be locked in his room by his own sister so she can truly surprise him. no guesses allowed.

when he turned twenty, the next seijin no hi was celebrated in and around the kamisato estate. it was probably the most extravagant celebration he had ever put together, and he wishes for his sister to experience it too. hopefully for her, she wouldn't have to go through the painstaking effort of sending letters to every other twenty-year-old in inazuma.

he usually clears his work schedule for a week after his birthday to take a rest and enjoy his new year before going back to the paperwork he'll have to endure for the rest of it.
