‘Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity’
‘A winner has a plan, a loser always has an excuse’
‘It’s all about who you know & being in the right place at the right time’
‘Be bold’
‘You have to love the art’
‘The definition of a professional means no excuses’
‘To work as a freelance is a lot about discipline, surging & thriving’
‘Don’t expect overnight success, it’s a journey’
‘Don’t undervalue the basic stuff’
‘Be reliable’
‘Life as a freelance is like a rollercoaster’
‘Recommendations come first, then the portfolio to follow’

To enter? or not to enter? - By Cheryl Bruce
Great British Bake off is back tonight at 8pm! Avid watchers of the amateur baker/ hobby bakers television series will be gearing up to witness the baking highs & lows, popcorn and drinks at hand and if you’re anything like me preparing my ingredients and attempting to bake along tonight!
Through the years I’ve had so many friends and family tell me I should enter this was before I began my own baking business and ask why I don’t so I thought i’d put together 4 reasons why I shall not be taking part in the Great British Bake off, enjoy!
https://www.instagram.com/tv/CBTm6QjJrIn/?igshid=1aj4ldkxwispa
1. Perfectionist
For one I’m a massive perfectionist when it comes to my craft and with that comes a lot of second guessing, restarting if I’m not satisfied also unlimited time. The entire aim of the show is the ability to deliver tasty, beautiful baked good within a time frame, a time frame that is unrealistic in my world. I like to go extreme with my presentation and final design idea.
2. ommmmmmm
Don’t get me wrong I’m great at multitasking I can have a cake in the oven get on with making the filling and icing as well as tidying up as i go, however when under pressure the one thing i do not want to do, I repeat DO NOT WANT TO DO is be interviewed! Especially when I know I’m running low on time I really wish not to be reminded or asked any questions about what I’m making, I’m the type of baker who chases everyone out of the kitchen so I can work in peace.
3. Facial expressions
My reactions and facial expressions tell it all, being watched at every minute by a film crew I guarantee My eyes would tell the entire story of how things are going on my end before the interviews, it’s definitely a gift and a curse but I can’t help it. I’m more likely to be remembered for the amount of memes the watchers will be able to piece together of me than my actual baked goods!
5. Feeling HOT HOT HOT
It’s no surprise the temperature in the tent can be the difference between success and failure, its safe to say looking from the outside in the tent appears to be an anxiety driven rollercoaster, as well as the temperature heat the heat of a tight time limit and intricate technical challenges is enough to put any amateur off applying.

4 top tips from Media Trust trainees alumni - By Cheryl Bruce
1. Annihilate imposter syndrome
Whilst doubting & second guessing yourself is hard to prevent, there are ways to suppress the feeling of imposter syndrome. Have confidence in what you say and believe, come with the facts. ensure you plan and prepare yourself for all given situations, simply having a positive and confident attitude towards a new and daunting environment can help ease those thoughts, remember YOU were chosen! Recognise that value and smash it!
2. Bite the bullet, just ASK
If you're unsure of what is required from you JUST ASK
Didn't quite understand ASK
But they said no...... Did you ASK why?
Never feel like a question is ever too silly or irrelevant to ask, its better to ask and know than pretend and find excuses don't fumble the bag by letting pride step in, the worst response that can be given is no, even then ask why, exhaust your options!
3. Secure a Mentor or a few
A Mentor can be a very important support system opening up your professional social life however keep in mind not all mentors will give you a job the idea is to soak up vital information and shadow, you will always hold the key to your success, remember to respect your mentors times and skill but don’t be afraid to show them how valuable you are to them also!
4. Energy
Always bring your A-Game you attract the energy you give off its catching that positive energy you gift off will rub off on those around you, nobody wants to be surrounded by a Debbie Downer. Be ready be energetic and stay positive, you’ll be remembered & more people will want to work with you!

PRESS RELEASE - Wham Weebs Podcast (SPIRAL MEDIA)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wham Weebs Release Podcast Across London
Three Bodybuilders Who Love Anime
WHO: Kwibs, Nate & Max.
WHAT: Three bodybuilders talking about their love for anime and the gym.
WHERE: Recorded in Central London, released on Soundcloud.
WHEN: Saturday 16th May 2020, 21:00pm BST.
Saturday 16th May 2020 - This Saturday at 9pm, Wham Weebs will release their podcast across all areas of London. They hope to reach 16-30 year olds and cross over interests from both the body building & anime community.
Londoners will be entertained through this podcast as friends Kwibs, Max and Nate discuss various thoughts and opinions around anime and bodybuilding. Through this podcast, they hope to shatter conventions around these two interests and connect to a wider audience.
Kwabena, aka Kwibs, decided to set up this podcast in the hopes of breaking stereotypes around the bodybuilding and anime communities. They are using their time away from the gym to share their views on the anime they have been watching before, and during lockdown. You can find these three discussing everything from bench pressing, to Naruto’s running technique. With Wham Weebs, there is no shortage of banter.
This podcast challenges current beliefs and stigmas around bodybuilders and anime enthusiasts. People should be able to love fitness and anime without judgment. Many people turn away from these hobbies thinking that they will not fit in with these groups. Wham Weebs changes these assumptions, as listeners can submit their opinions through social media and hear these discussed on a safe, non judgemental platform.
KWIBS said:
“As a bodybuilder and an anime lover, I say that anyone can be interested in both these hobbies. I myself got into bodybuilding having been inspired by the anime character Goku’s ‘WHAM’ physique!”
“A lot of people think that bodybuilders and anime lovers are completely different. Anime lovers are seen as quiet and introverted, and the typical bodybuilder is seen as loud and vain. This is not true! Through Wham Weebs, we want to break down these assumptions, and show that people should not be labelled by their interests. We are bodybuilders who love anime; there is no shame in that.”
NOTES FOR EDITORS:
Wham Weebs is a new podcast for 16-30 year old Londoners, which gives them the chance to listen to a new, unique perspective on the worlds of bodybuilding and anime.
The terms Wham and Weeb are frequently used in the bodybuilding and anime community. Wham is a well known slang term used in bodybuilding to describe very muscular physiques. The term Weeb was initially used as an insult to those obsessed with the Japanese culture. Anime lovers have changed this, and reclaimed the term to describe their love for the culture in a positive manner.
Our aim is to give young people a safe space to listen and discuss their love for both interests. There is no judgment at Wham Weebs. Bodybuilders, anime lovers, and people who are just interested in us are all welcome here.
Each podcast is filmed on Friday afternoon and released on Soundcloud every Saturday at 9pm. Listeners can share their opinions on social media, which will be discussed in every podcast.

COVID Brides #Thegoodinwhereilive
Creative-19 inspires the era of ‘Pre’ Wedding shoots #weddingSHUTDOWN #socialdistancecelebrations #insicknessandinhealth
Saint Giles Church (pictured below) located in Camberwell and about an 8 minute walk from where I live. A place of worship, holy ceremonies and Christian community gatherings. The hit of the Covid-19 pandemic has put the entire country on lockdown and out places of worship aren’t exempt.
I had initially taken a sneaky picture on my way to do an essential shop, on the way back decided to ask permission to take this (at a safe 6ft of course). I thought it was quite oxymoronic at first the idea of a wedding being such a celebrated and huge life event, it was quite eerie to whiteness the still and emptiness of their surroundings.
My second thought was ‘THIS IS GENIOUS’ a reflection of how despite our current devastating situation people are still able to capture beautiful moments, now I know this isn’t an ‘actual’ Bride, however it just goes to show creativity has no limits, a small reminder that no matter the circumstance; in this scenario marriage, there are ways around creating lasting memories, introducing the era of your ‘pre-wedding’ practice shoot.

On my way to pick up essentials on a beautiful Easter Sunday, the complete opposite to our ‘now’ reality in lockdown and came across these posters plastered across an old telephone booth; words of hope and gratitude still thriving within my local community Camberwell/ Peckham.

4 Legendary POC (People of colour) you SHOULD be watching on YouTube & if you aren’t, pls WHAT ARE YOU DOING?- By Cheryl Bruce #injectit
1. Rhea Ellen
Man like Rhea Ellen you knowwww, 27, well known for her ‘Rhea Rants’.... Legendary.... absofigingely fantabulously legendary if it isn’t her elite sense of humour, adlibs, random singing outbursts or the famous ‘STRESS PON MI LEFT BREAST’ then her facial expressions and raw realness will have you tumbling & hooked. I first stumbled across her channel back in 2018 and was wondering WHY I hadn’t heard of her sooner, her channel covers everything from very relatable everyday life nuinsenses, tv/ reviews & dilemmas to mental heath and now including clips of everyday life whilst with a newborn.
Rhea’s like that one reaaaaaal best friend you have who isn’t afraid to tell you wa gwaaan and that’s essentially why we all need her in our lives or at least on our screens, her topics are so relatable she’ll have you ‘omadaiiizzz-ing’ with every story.....
‘Loiiiiiike that l-i-t-o-r-allly just happened to me the other day, like, yaknowwhata meannn’
Honestly at this point you really just need to head over and have a nosey for yourself grab ya popcorn, grab ya lemon water and in Rhea’s words ‘move pon di left’

2. Murad Merali
Murad Merali, 23, Clinical Psychiatric, Cognitive Neuroscientist & avid content creator.
The most consistent content serving you PIPING, HOT Tea, reactions and serious/ controversial disscusions daily, sometimes even as the tea brews. Murad Merali isn’t afraid to open discussions on racism, politics, sexuality, mentality and more placing these topics in a central light allowing room for needed conversations within our society.
Murad uses his profession as Clinical Psych to give non biased perspectives and informative anylasis on his social platforms, he is direct and to the point meaning the majority of his YouTube videos are usually under 5 minutes and since beginning his Podcast ‘I’m over it’ he is able to expand his initial opened discussions.
Murad’s ability to question the taboos within our cultural society and not tip toeing around these issues is what drew me to his channel initially and of course he stans’ hard for us Black women ‘INJECT IT’ and we’re here for it! He isn’t afraid to call out people on their Bulls**t but what’s most important is he’s able to remove his own opinions and give multiple points of views.

3. Janai Briggs
Janai Briggs, 21 also known as Janai Kirsten which she goes by on her social media platforms, is one of my fave Natural hair youtubers to watch since doing my second buzzcut. It was her creative flair for eclectic hair colouring/ Bleaching videos that had me hooked! Being a Londoner, during those times it wasn’t as common as it is now to dye your hair all the shades of the rainbow, her influence as an American blogger gave me and I’m sure many others confidence in rocking our natural ‘TWAs’ (Teeny Weeny Afros) providing straight forward hair colouring tutorials she herself was able to achieve, aside from Hair dying tutorials Janai also is a Skin care & Beauty blogger.
In November 2019 Janai Launched ‘Kristen Parlour’ her own hair Care brand focusing on products tailored to those with colour treated hair and is now gearing up to launch a collection of semi-permanent hair dyes. A Multi talented Entrepreneur to definitely watch!

4. Lloyd Lothian
Lloyd Lothian, who goes by Chuckie, 37 is an outstandingly well known Versatile DJ
Who became one of England’s top underground club DJ’s serving as the main DJ for U.K rapper Angel.
Also an Official DJ for Jay Prince (@loungeinparis), WSTRN (@wstrnmusic), Nike (@nike) & Monster (@monsterproducts) as well as the DJ’ing Chuckie is the Host of the #Halfcast podcast
I know some may question why I’ve placed him in the ‘top YOUTUBERS’ category my reason for this is that’s where I first came across him. About 2 years ago his famous podcast did come up in conversation but my attention is drawn visually so it wasn’t until his Chanel was recommended to me via YouTube that I tuned in and 2 minutes in began following the podcast.
Halfcast is essentially a series of a range of topics from Grime, Rap music & culture to covering discussions on the LGBTQ+ community, Mental health, society and topics gender focused; this is where his YouTube channel is essential as each episode depending on the choice of topic Chuckie will invite at least one panalist who associates with that particular community (as well as familiar members of the cast) in order to have a non biased conversation whilst learning and listening to an opposed insight/ opinion. Halfcast for me is like being in a room with your close friends and ‘talking about everything and anything’.
Personally I enjoy his conversations on both platforms but in order to listen to the full topic I’d definitely follow up on Halfcast Podcast how I spend my Sunday afternoons whilst I change my bedding.

5 Reasons Leopard geckos are a mans best friend - By Cheryl Bruce
1. Perfect Roomie
They make great roommates, not only are they a low maintenance reptile (not dismissing the hard work that goes into properly caring for a Leopard gecko) if you’re looking for a pet that doesn’t smell and children friendly this might be the pet for you. Leopard geckos are usually very docile creatures and will usually have no issue being handled or simply sitting on your shoulder whilst you catch-up up your favourite flicks. Leo’s are also one of the few reptiles that actually eat there shedded skin during the event. #reducereuserecycle
2. Night Owls
Being a crepuscular species of gecko, Leo’s tend to spend their days sleeping perfect if you’re at school/ working as you won’t miss a thing, you’ll be able to handle and feed them later in the evening when they become active.
3. Comedic
Leopard geckos never fail to humour their humans, if it isn’t the alternating walk or random late night attempts to climb up their glass front vivariums trying to sell insurance at 3am
Then I’m sure their joke telling skills will probably do the trick!
4. Optimistic
I mean have you ever seen a sad Leopard gecko before? If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed or stressed I guarantee these friendly, affectionate creatures will know exactly what to say, through their eyes.... just look at that little face.
5. ‘Wingman’ Goals
Aside from taking awesome selfies to add to tinder, Leopard geckos like with most lizards have the ability to regenerate their tails. A defensive mechanism which distracts the predator giving you and your Leo ‘wingman’ enough time to escape a terrible first date! #lifesavingtailtotherescue
Now if that couldn’t convince you enough... *clicks fingers*

Cheryl Bruce
Cheryl Bruce is a 25 year old mixed media artist from South East London. Cheryl’s attention to detail, creative questioning and love for fine art lead her to purse her study within Art & Textile design. During this time she received devastating news, losing her step father to lung cancer she decided to pour that emotion into her F.M.P ‘Untitled Memoir’ a series of garments and textural fabric manipulations highlighting that particular time in her life, celebrating her step fathers life whilst depicting fragments of the destructive effect of the disease on the human mind and body.
Cheryl now combines her love of textile art and design through sampling & photography with her love of baking, creating original, innovative, custom, contemporary cake art! The message behind each piece of work produced is ‘finding the beauty within deterioration’. Her signature style is very much influenced by the breakdown of natural matter, weathering and decomposition, to ‘find the beauty’ is to understand the natural lifecycle of matter, from decomposition new life is born.
