AIMI TIME!! honestly, i really can't say what kind of verdict would be better for her. i have no idea how her trial will go this time..
Warnings for Aimi's VD: mentions of toxic family dynamics and bullying, Aimi's murder method is discussed and implied to be very brutal, but the description is not detailed.
Warnings for Aimi's MV: themes of bullying and toxic relationships between Aimi and her accomplice and also her classmates. One of the characters gets their head cut off.
(sounds of footsteps)
Hinode: Sorry for dozing off like that, Miki-san.. I just got so tired all of a sudden..
Miki: It's kinda weird to hear that from someone who.. you know, said all of that to Miyagawa-san.
Hinode: Hm? What do you mean?
Miki: Well, I really didn't expect you to be so.. harsh, maybe?
Hinode: *laughs* Harsh? Please, Miki-san, I was just trying to learn more about his crime, that's all.
Miki: B-but it sounded like you had everything figured out already-
Hinode: Are you ready to interrogate the second prisoner? I promise, I'll try my best not to fall asleep this time.
Miki: .. Okay.
(the door opens)
Miki: Hello-
Miki: H-huh?!
(sounds of someone running up to her and pulling her in a hug)
Aimi: Hehe.. Hello, Miki-chan~
Aimi: It's so nice to finally see you.. I've missed you so much..
Aimi: Don't you know it's bad to just leave your best friend like that?
Miki: .. P-please let go of me.
Hinode: W-why do I feel like a third wheel in this situation?..
Aimi: Hmph..
(sounds of Aimi letting Miki go and sitting down)
Aimi: So, a third trial..
Aimi: Well, I have nothing to worry about, right, Miki-chan?
Miki: .. Y-you're really.. talkative today.
Hinode: Which is surprising, considering you don't talk to other prisoners that much anymore.
Aimi: Ah, about that..
Aimi: I just don't really understand why I should continue trying to become friends with them.
Aimi: Let's be honest here, all of them are sick in the head.
Miki: ?
Miki: But didn't you say that you like all of them and want to be friends with them-
Aimi: I really did like them.
Aimi: But.. Then I looked at them, saw how they act after being voted guilty or even after being voted innocent and..
Aimi: And I was like, "Damn, they really are murderers, aren't they?" *laughs*
Miki: .. You sound weird, Hanasaki-san. It doesn't sound like you at all-
Aimi: Aimi-chan.
Miki: Wh-
Aimi: Call me "Aimi-chan". Like a good friend would.
Aimi: No, no, like a best friend would!
Hinode: I-I think we should start the interrogation-
Aimi: I'm sorry, was I speaking to you?
Miki: .. Aimi-chan, what's going on?
Miki: You've changed. You're like a completely different person now.
Miki: Maybe that's just Milgram's influence-
Aimi: Um.. Here's the thing, Miki-chan.
Aimi: I'll tell you a little secret, because you really are my best friend. You've forgiven me like two times already, surely you will forgive me this time too, right?
Aimi: Again, like a good friend.
Aimi: (to Hinode) .. Close your ears.
Hinode: Huh?
Aimi: You're not in my friend list. So close your ears.
Hinode: Um.. O-okay?
Aimi: So, Miki-chan.. I don't know how I should tell you this, especially because I don't know what you've seen in my videos and what you haven't..
Aimi: But.. Honestly, I always was like this.
Aimi: I don't know if there's something wrong with my behavior. I don't know if it's weird or if I'm being rude.
Aimi: You probably just see me as a cute and shy girl who went through something terrible and who deserves pity.
Aimi: You see me as a victim. A perfect and fragile victim.
Aimi: And.. You're kinda right, actually.
Aimi: I.. I did not deserve to be treated like that. It took me quite a lot of time to realize that, but.. I really did not deserve to be bullied.
Aimi: So who am I? I'm a victim, right? And being a victim means it wasn't my fault, right?
Miki: Actually, about that..
Miki: Something about your story doesn't add up, Aimi-chan.
Aimi: Oh? W-what exactly?
Miki: .. So you admit that you were bullied, right?
Aimi: *nods* Yes. My classmates never were my friends, even though I wanted to believe that they were.
Miki: But.. why were you bullied?
Miki: Obviously, sometimes it just happens without any reason. Sometimes people can just.. be really cruel.
Miki: But I just don't understand why someone would want to-
Aimi: Does that matter to you, Miki-chan?
Aimi: Hey.. If it turned out that my classmates had a reason to bully me..
Aimi: Would you stop being friends with me?
Aimi: Would you leave me? Would you betray me? Would you stab me in the back and leave me to die and choke on my own blood?
Aimi: You wouldn't do that, right? 'Cause you're a good friend, Miki-chan.
Miki: .. You're asking me if I would vote you guilty, right?
Aimi: *stands up* I DON'T CARE ABOUT VERDICTS, TRIALS AND ALL THAT SHIT!
Aimi: I JUST WANT A FRIEND! I JUST WANT SOMEONE TO TALK TO, TO HANG OUT WITH, TO HAVE FUN WITH!
Aimi: .. So tell me, Miki-chan, would you stop being friends with me if it turned out that my classmates had a reason to bully me?
Miki: ...
Hinode: I'm so sorry, but I really want to ask you one question-
Aimi: Again, I don't remember being friends with-
Hinode: But Aimi-san, why do you think that you are friends with Miki-san?
Aimi: .. Huh?
Hinode: Miki-san, do you see Aimi-san as a friend?
Miki: ...
Miki: .. A-Aimi-chan is a really kind and sweet person.
Hinode: .. But do you see her as a friend?
Miki: ...
Aimi: .. Miki-chan?
Miki: .. Hinode-san, why exactly are you asking me this?
Hinode: Well, you see, of course we can form relationships with the prisoners.
Hinode: We become attached to them, we become friends with them, maybe even develop feelings for them.
Hinode: But.. I honestly don't think that you two really are friends.
Hinode: Aimi-san, again, why do you think Miki-san is your friend?
Aimi: .. S-she has forgiven me like two times already.
Aimi: I-I'm innocent in her eyes. So that means she loves me, right?
Aimi: That means you will never betray me, right, Miki-san?
Aimi: We're friends! Best friends even!
Aimi: So please.. Say that we're friends. Call me your friend.
Miki: ...
Aimi: Miki-chan, please-
Miki: S-so about your crime.
(sounds of Aimi trying hard not to cry)
Aimi: .. Whatever. Ask me whatever you want. I don't care anymore.
Miki: ".. I don't know what I want to ask her anymore."
Miki: "Maybe I should start with what she said last time?"
Miki: You said that your accomplice is dead, right?
Aimi: .. Yep. Sure is.
Miki: .. You killed him, didn't you?
Aimi: Did you see that in my video?
Miki: .. Yes.
Aimi: .. Yeah, I killed him.
Aimi: But I guess you could say I killed my classmates too.
Aimi: I mean.. He came up with it, but I played along.
Aimi: I never tried to stop him. I was scared, I was really scared, but I couldn't say no to him.
Aimi: He always made me so uncomfortable, but I just couldn't stop him.
Aimi: He wanted to protect me. In his own insane way, yes, but he really did want to protect me.
Miki: .. And that was almost like having a friend, right?
Miki: A friend that wants to protect you so bad that he's ready to kill someone for you.
Aimi: .. *starts crying*
Aimi: I.. I killed him because I got scared..
Aimi: I saw their corpses and-
Aimi: H-he tried to hug me right after that. I hugged him back, but-
Aimi: I-it was all just too much.
Miki: .. It was your brother, right?
Aimi: *nods* Y-yeah. I'm tired of saying that he's just very overprotective because..
Aimi: He.. He was worse than that.
Aimi: He was.. very controlling. He knew literally everything about me and my schedule. He knew everything about the people I talk to. If I said hi to a random stray cat on the way home, he somehow still managed to know about that.
Hinode: .. He sounds like a nightmare.
Aimi: That's because he was one.
Aimi: I could go into detail, but like.. You get it. I have no idea what was wrong with him, but he really was like that.
Miki: .. How did your classmates die?
Aimi: .. S-so I've told you that my family owns a theme park, right? I-I invited my classmates there.
Aimi: Y-you know, like I went "Hey, my family is so cool and rich, wanna go to this park we own?" And of course, they agreed.
Aimi: Heh, they even forgot about how much they hate me..
Aimi: A-and, um.. Some of the rides actually weren't working properly a few days before that.
Aimi: Our parents knew about it, but they kept the park opened because.. You know, money, all that stuff.
Aimi: A-and my brother also made sure to bribe the people who were working there so that they won't try to fix them.
Miki: .. Are you telling me that your classmates went on those rides?
Aimi: *nods* I've told them that those rides were the most fun ones.
Miki: ...
Miki: .. T-they couldn't just all die from that, right?
Hinode: Miki-san, remember the second video?
Hinode: There.. was a lot of blood.
Aimi: When I say "they weren't working properly", I mean "somebody could literally fall from those rides and end up breaking all their bones or just turn into a bloody mess".
Miki: ...
Miki: S-so all those kids-
(bell rings, machinery sounds)
Aimi: All of them died. Probably. At least most of them did.
Miki: T-that's.. A-and you killed your brother right after that too?
Aimi: Yes. And I just left right after that.
Hinode: Miki-san, you look pale. Do you need some water?
Miki: .. Aimi-chan. Just tell me one thing.
Miki: Do you regret your murder? Or murders, whatever.
Aimi: .. I think I just found my classmates' corpses scary. And the fact that I helped my brother kill them as well.
Aimi: As for my brother's murder..
Aimi: I'm just glad he's dead.
Miki: .. I see.
Aimi: Miki-chan-
Aimi: Ah.. No, that's not right.
Aimi: Guard 002-san, I will be forgiven again this time, right?
Miki: It all depends on your video-
Aimi: I was about to say that if you vote me guilty, I will just kill all of the other prisoners and then myself, but like, you've already betrayed me, so it doesn't matter anymore.
Aimi: I'm doing it anyway.
Miki: .. What?
Miki: What do you mean by that, Aimi-chan?
Aimi: Please don't call me Aimi-chan ever again and extract the video.
Hinode: Miki-san, we really don't have that much time left.
Hinode: I'm sure the third prisoner is already waiting for us.
Miki: But how do you even plan to kill the prisoners?!
Aimi: EXTRACT THE FUCKING VIDEO!
Miki: .. Prisoner 002, Aimi, please sing your sins.

[ Aimi's Trial 3 MV: Blooming Connection ]
The video starts with showing us a dark garden full of nothing but dead plants. Aimi is standing in the middle of it alone and her eyes are completely empty. Suddenly, someone walks up to her and gives her a flower seed. She looks at it more closely and her eyes start to look much brighter and her expression is more hopeful.
"Ah, nothing is working out, making friends shouldn't be this hard
My high school life was supposed to be all fun and smiles
Maybe they're shy? Maybe they're not interested? Oh well
I'll leave them no choice but to become friends with me!"
The scene changes and now it's a classroom. Aimi walks in and watches her classmates talk to each other, laugh and have fun. She starts handing every single classmate a flower and most of them appreciate the gesture and find the flowers beautiful. Aimi smiles at them and walks to another classmate and gives her a flower as well. However, this time the classmate politely rejects it.
"Buying their friendship isn't a big deal
That's how you do it in the adults' world
I guess you could say it's my love language
So come on, say that you love me, everybody!"
Aimi.. doesn't take it well and stands there, refusing to believe that someone could've said no to her. Her expression starts to become more and more scary and suddenly, she jumps at her and makes the girl fall on the floor.
"Come on, accept my gift, tell me you're grateful, tell me how thoughtful I am
Did I do great? Am I a good friend? I know I am, I know I am
"This flower reminds me of you" I'm the sweetest person you've ever met, right?
"Sorry, but I gotta go" Hey, what do you think you're doing?"
Aimi keeps pulling her hair, beating her and yelling at her and other classmates are struggling to make her let the girl go. When they finally manage to do so, they look terrified and don't want to look Aimi in the eyes. Aimi's hair is messed up, she's breathing heavily and she doesn't seem to regret what she did.
We're in the garden again and it looks like the flowers are starting to grow. Aimi doesn't seem that happy about it though and we can see someone putting their hand on her shoulder in attempt to comfort her. She can only sigh and continue looking at the flower, almost like she's expecting something from it.
"I can still become friends with them, right? I can still eat lunch with them, right?
They will smile at me, right? Say that I'm a good friend, right?
'Cause I'm a good friend, 'cause I'm a good friend
'Cause I'm a good friend, 'cause I'm INNOCENT"
The school setting again. Aimi is arguing with another classmate. Aimi is crying and pointing her finger at her, but the other girl is trying to prove to others that she's innocent and she didn't do anything. The others believe her and walk away with her, leaving Aimi alone. Then we can see a classmate yelling at Aimi and the pink-haired girl looking scared, but other classmates don't try to support or protect her at all and they nod and agree with everything that classmate is saying. We can see another flower lying on the floor next to Aimi.
"So ungrateful, so damn ungrateful
So many gifts and all for nothing
I guess there really is no connection between us
I hate them so much, but I still need friends to survive"
Back in the garden, more and more flowers appear and Aimi still looks worried about something. Someone is standing next to her, but we can only see their silhouette and it actually feels like Aimi is trying her best to forget that person, since all the angles that we can see them from don't let us see any details of their design. Aimi turns to that person and nods, meaning that she's ready to finally do something.
"Maybe revenge is fine, maybe revenge is the right option
I want them to feel the pain they made me go through
I guess I'll try to buy their friendship one last time"
The door opens and Aimi walks into the classroom again. Her hair is a mess and she has dark circles under her eyes and she has a lot of bandaids on her body, just like in the first season. She walks to her classmates and shows them a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her garden. The classmates actually like it a lot and take the bouquet from her. She has nothing else to do but to watch them have fun, but if you look closer, you can see that their hands are bleeding while they're holding the bouquet.
Aimi does look worried at first, but then she shakes her head and closes her eyes. When she opens them, she's in her garden again and her garden is even more colorful than before. Aimi also looks completely different: she has a crown on her head, she's wearing a beautiful princess-like dress, she has flowers in her hair and she has a sword in her hand as well. When she looks down, she sees a young man with dark pink hair and eyes that look similar to hers, but also have darker colors, getting down on one knee before her. It's like she's about to make him her knight.
"Thank you for protecting me, thank you for staying by my side
Our connection is strong, the flowers of our friendship are blooming
Let's stay together forever, 'cause you're such a good friend"
Surprisingly, she smiles, but when the man opens his eyes, he suddenly goes pale and looks shocked. We can still see Aimi smiling, but now there is blood on her sword.
"And such a terrible brother"
The man's head falls on the floor and she turns to her flowers and she notices some weird movement there. It's like someone is.. trying to come up from under the ground?
A hand. And another hand. And another one. There's someone's head too- Oh, it's actually the classmate from the beginning of the video, the one who refused to take her flower.
"Finally, my true friends are here
They've grown from the seeds of my despair and sorrow
Finally, I can say that I love them
And they will never reject me"
More and more classmates are starting to appear and they look a lot like zombies. A lot of them are covered in injuries and those injuries look terrifying and you can tell that whatever killed them wasn't kind to them at all. Also, it looks like Aimi used their dead bodies as fertilizer. They're starting to surround Aimi, but she doesn't look worried at all. She actually looks happy.
"I'm the sweetest person you've ever met, right?
I'm the best friend you've ever had, right?
Come on, give me a hug and say that you forgive me"
For the first time in this video, she turns to her classmates and gives them a sincere smile, but then, everything suddenly goes dark. We can only hear a sound of something being torn apart and falling on the ground. The video ends.

PAIRING. xu minghao x gn!reader GENRE. angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, established relationship WARNINGS. language alluding to death, reader is in a wheelchair, mentions of an unnamed terminal disease that causes reader to have weakened limbs n feel very weak in general, vague mention of nudity (hao takes off reader’s clothes and gives them a bath) but nothing is explicitly described, descriptions of a hospital, terms of endearment (love), one curse word WORD COUNT. 4.3k
ukiyo ( 浮世 ) 𑁋 “the floating world”; living in the moment; detached from the bothers of life.
notes: there’s not really a plot to this. it’s just brainrot because i love torturing myself and my heart. i saw pics of the beach of hai cheng mv and immediately wanted to write something sad for no reason.
The late morning sunlight pours in through the small window of the bathroom as you hold a steady, blank gaze at the running water gushing out from the faucet. The sounds bounce off the walls of the bathroom, and you bring your eyes down to your legs.
You can hardly move them.
It’s been this way for the past two years. It had started with the muscles of your legs slowly succumbing to the weakness stemming from the terminal illness you had been diagnosed with. And as time continues to routinely pass, that certain weakness had set out to invade other parts of your body like a dumb and relentless parasite.
Over the years, the disease had been slowly nearing its peak. The countless visits to the hospital had laggardly dissipated every bit of hope to a possible recovery, and you’ve gotten used to the sentences being said of There’s no cure for the disease, or Sooner or later, it can spread to your brain. You’re only growing weaker and weaker each passing day. Every day tasks were already strenuous. Opening your eyes in the morning took too much strength. Nothing but tiredness and exhaustion plagued your body. Headaches have been becoming more prevalent. Sometimes you just want all this pain to cease to exist. You didn’t want to put this burden on the people you love.
You didn’t want to put this burden on Minghao.
“So... cherry blossom, lavender, or coconut chamomile?”
You slowly bring your gaze up to the sight of your boyfriend holding up three different scents of bubble bath in the doorway. The sight makes you giggle as you look between the different scents with curiosity, before looking back up at Minghao.
Even after being together the past four years, just the fleeting sight of him lights you up. Your body may be growing weaker each day, but your unwavering love for the man holding up bottles of bubble bath scents has never faltered. Not one bit.
But if you weren’t sick, he would be able to live the long, happy life that he wanted, right?
Minghao knows that you are tired𑁋it’s your default answer every day. He wishes he can be able to take away the exhaustion that you feel. He wishes to put all of that pain onto his shoulders and carry it for you so you could experience the freedom away from the constraints of your illness.
But he also knows that life doesn't always grant such wishes.
“Will you... surprise me?” You ask instead.
All he does is smile. It’s that soft, fond nose-scrunching smile that you’ve grown to love over the years. Minghao places the bottles on the counter of the sink, putting his body in front so you wouldn’t be able to see what he selects. Covering the bottle with his arms, he playfully walks backward towards the bathtub, causing you to elicit a weak laugh at his dorky antics.
As he reaches the tub, he leans over and carefully pours the bubble bath into the warm water, And as you watch, a gentle purple hue of bubbles begin to form and spread sporadically throughout the tub like a magical mist. It's the soothing and enchanting aroma of lavender.
“You... always know what I like, hm?” You ask him as he closes the container to the bottle and sets it back on the sink counter.
The corners of Minghao’s lips curl amusedly. "I may have learned a thing or two about you over the years.”
The sincerity in his words never fails to relax your heart and push away the clouds of your bittersweet thoughts. Minghao waits a minute or two before turning off the faucet and directing his attention back to you.
“Now,” He leans in front of you, letting his hands caress over yours on the handle of the wheelchair and landing at the hems of your shirt. “can I help you out of these clothes?”
A blush grows on your cheeks at his request despite him doing this for years. You heave out a nervous breath and nod as Minghao's hands begin to move over you with practiced ease, aware of your weakened limbs and exhausted state. He keeps his touch gentle and respectful, and starts with unbuttoning your shirt, his delicate fingers gliding effortlessly along the fabric to reveal the vulnerability the lies underneath. He doesn’t rush or hurry anything, simply setting his focus on you and only you. The warmth of his hands against your skin sends shivers running down your spine.
Though he has seen you bare for him many times, Minghao can’t help the faint smirk to his face. As the last button is undone, he lets your shirt fall to the tile floor below, his gaze travelling over you with adoration. The all-too familiar intimacy between you two has never diminished the admiration he holds for you. Treasuring you is something he has always been devoted to do.
“You’re so beautiful,” he mutters, leaning in to press a soft kiss to your knuckle, and you feel the surge of warmth and love run marathons to your heart.
With his hands now free from the task of your shirt, he continues his journey downwards, the tips of his fingers ghosting tenderly over your fragile skin and leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake. You can barely feel the way he touches you, but the thought of him doing so brings you comfort. He takes his precious time, savouring each second that passes between as he loosens the clasps of your pants and helps bring them down your legs with utmost caution.
As each layer of clothing is finally peeled off, a wave of relief and peace washes over you. Minghao sets your clothing neatly away before returning to your side and bringing you closer to the tub. He lets his arms wrap around you, carefully lifting you from the wheelchair and guiding you towards the edge of the bathtub. Sticking a hand in the water to ensure its a good temperature, he slowly but surely eases you into the bath, the water and lavender aroma embracing your body as you sink deeper inside the tub.
“Does it feel good?” he asks you while lathering the bubbles onto your shoulders.
A sigh escapes your lips as you lean your back against the tub with the bubbles tickling against your skin.
“Mhm,” You let out quietly. “Thank... thank you.” Thank you for taking care of me; I wish I could give you all the care back.
Minghao hums softly, planting a kiss to the top of your head, and retrieves a nearby sponge. Sitting himself down at the edge of the tub, he dips the sponge into the water before lightly caressing over your skin. He starts with your shoulders, washing your skin with a smooth pace and various patterns, helping to gradually ease away the tension to your body.
“Relax, love,” he tells you. “Let me take care of you.”
And so you let your eyes flutter to a close. It felt relaxing to do so𑁋to let go. It almost makes the pain in your head go away.
You watch the steam rise from the untouched bowl of rice porridge in front of you. It takes Minghao a few minutes later to come back with his own bowl, along with a few side dishes in hand. He glances towards you and notices your empty expression, a tinge of sadness to your eyes that brings a heavy weight to his chest, but he doesn’t acknowledge it. Reaching over, he takes your metal spoon in his hand and dips it in the bowl, grabbing a spoonful of the porridge.
“It’s important for you to eat, love.” Minghao blows on the spoon, cooling down the porridge before bringing it to your lips. The illness hasn’t been much cooperative to your appetite, and eating has been a daunting task for the past few months. He prepares you light foods that doesn’t take much strength to swallow, but enough to nourish you at the same time.
Parting your lips slightly, Minghao feeds you the spoonful of porridge, and you immediately relish in the warmth coursing through you. A small smile crosses your face at the familiar taste of comfort, and it even makes Minghao’s worried face soften. He continues to feed you, spoonful by spoonful, his eyes never leaving yours while taking in every detail𑁋the way your eyes flutter close after each bite, the way the faint smile to your face grows every so slightly, but enough for him to notice. It’s a big change to see, according to him.
“Tastes good.” You murmur under your breath, looking up at him.
The weariness fades off your face just minisculely. Minghao manages a gentle smile, barely noticing his own food going cold as he continues to feed you.
There’s a certain silence that you love with him𑁋it’s a domestic silence, especially after being together for four years, where you love observing him doing his everyday routine. But gosh, you miss the times when you were able to hold him in your own arms, or when you could wrap your arms around him in a tight back hug while he cooked, or sneak kisses to his cheek and run away before he would tackle you back into the bed. You miss the times when he’d let you hold him so he could listen to you read, or when you both sat across from each other having your late night doodling sessions.
You miss all those times, and there’s no way to get them back.
“I was thinking...” Minghao comes back to sit down after setting the dishes away. “...if you wanted to go on a little getaway for the day?”
You look up at him dazedly. “A... getaway?”
“You’ve mentioned wanting to go the beach before,” he inputs, and you see his face up to your idea. “and I think it would be nice to get some fresh air, would you say so?”
He really does remember all the things about you.
A flicker of hesitation crosses your mind, yet the longing for a change of scenery, a temporary escape from the walls that confine you, helps to wash away any doubts.
You used to dream about running through the white sand beach, feeling the heat of the sun on your skin and the cool breeze caress your face while listening to the calming sound of the waves crashing against the shore. You dreamed of you and Minghao’s laughter mingling into the fresh, afternoon air, your hands intertwined together as you dash down the shoreline together.
Ever since you were a kid, you dreamed of the beach being the place where you would marry the love of your life, because the sight of the sun setting in the horizon, the soft sand beneath your feet, and the vastness of the ocean waters as you kissed your partner was a fairytale you wanted to experience.
And ever since before your diagnosis and still to this day, you dream of the beach being the place where you would marry Minghao.
Now, it entirely feels like a distant memory now, something beyond unattainable, but the thought of simply seeing it with your eyes brings some form of hope back to your tired heart.
So you look back up at Minghao as a very faint sparkle of eagerness passes through your eyes.
The winter season paints the world with a palette of muted colours. The once vibrancy of the ocean waters fades into a pale blue-grey like the cloudy skies above, and the emptiness allows the beach to unfold in its truest form. The waves aren’t too strong or too weak, but roll in gently onto the shoreline with their white foam brushing against the sand before receding back into the vast waters.
As you and Minghao stroll down towards the beach, you find small patches of snow in the grass and bushes. The air is crisp and chilly, but you don't mind the cold. You find yourself dressed in a comfortable and cozy turtleneck, along with a snug coat to protect you from the winter chill. Minghao had insisted on picking an outfit since dressing you up𑁋and making sure all the colours work well with each other𑁋has always been one of his favourite activities to do.
There’s a ramp that you go down before finally arriving onto the sandy grounds. The wheels of the wheelchair sinks into the slightly damp sand as Minghao pushes you closer towards the water. He's used to assisting you with mobility the past two years, and he does it with such grace and care that it has practically become a second nature for him.
The beach appears desolate, but seeing it so untouched and undisturbed makes the experience far more peaceful.
Minghao stops the wheelchair at a comfortable distance from the water's edge before kneeling beside you. His ears are slightly reddened from the cold, even with the protection of his own turtle neck and long scarf, but his gaze in the direction of the water is filled with warmth and pure awe.
He turns to reach for your hand on your lap and intertwines his fingers with yours, before turning back to the sight of the sky meeting the sea.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” he asks.
“It’s...” If you could, if your body gave you the benefit of the doubt for one single moment, you would say everything coming from your heart𑁋how the word beautiful is just a small word compared to the real floating feeling that it gives you. “...beautiful.”
The word feels lackluster, but it's all you can manage to say, and Minghao's warm smile is all that you need to back you up.
He turns back towards you, hesitation in his words. “Do you want to stand closer to the water?”
You peer at Minghao with hesitation and uncertainty. Standing now took... more strength than usual as of lately, and it pains you to admit it. But the thought of being able to stand near the water, to be able to stand on the world that fills your dreams at night was more than tempting. You can barely remember the last time you were able to go to the beach; it was more than possible that it was way before the diagnosis of your illness.
But what if this could be your only opportunity?
And so you muster a small nod towards Minghao. “Help... me stand?”
Minghao only nods. He moves behind the wheelchair and locks the brakes so that it won't move while he helps you stand. With nothing but caution, he wraps an arm around your waist and one under your knees as you slowly rise from the wheelchair, your legs trembling from the use of all your strength as you lean against Minghao for balance. It felt... strange to be able to stand like this again, even if it was just for a few short minutes, almost like a sensation you have nearly forgotten.
His arm tightens around your waist as he guides you to take your first step, leading you closer to the shore. Each step felt like an ardous journey. You basically can hear the loud protests of your own body telling you to stop.
“You’re doing great,” he tells you, and his words bring you some heightened determination.
Even with each passing moment and your body slowly but surely taking all its effort to remain you upright, you don’t let the thought dampen your persistence.
When you finally reach the line where the tip of your shoe reaches the edge, the ocean stretches out before you as if holding countless stories of joy, sadness, and everything in between within its deep, mysterious depths.
Minghao still has an arm wrapped around you, but his eyes are directed into yours, both tenderly and admiringly.
"You did it," he assures you. "You're standing by the ocean.”
A bittersweet smile crosses your lips, a smile warm but with a hint of sadness. You feel the heat growing in your eyelids as you let a few streams of tears to flow down your face, never thinking that such a vast space would become your safe haven. Minghao leans in to press a loving kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering there for a moment.
You feel like you’re floating in that moment, suspended between that of reality and a dream. The weariness that lingers in your bones is briefly forgotten about, and you relish in the feeling of standing tall after so much time.
But as you continue standing, you feel the weakness descend upon you. The exhaustion surrounds you like a dense fog, clouding your mind and eating away at your energy. You try to keep your focus on the calmness of the ocean ahead, but you feel a certain heaviness to your eyes, making it difficult for you to keep them open.
And the world around you starts to blur.
Minghao is speaking. He’s speaking but you can’t make out any words because of the ringing in your ears that was growing louder each second and drowning out his voice which was the only thing fucking powerful enough to keep you even remotely grounded𑁋
“Y/N, stay with me. Can you... hear...”
No, I can’t hear you. You’re fading away... I’m the one who is fading away.
“Hao...” is all you manage to mumble out in a hushed, weak whisper.
The last thing you remember is the feeling of his arms around you and his voice desperately calling out your name before all you could see is black.
It takes a lot for Minghao to break.
But seeing you in this hospital bed right next to him, with your skin more fragile than ever and your body laying unconsciously still, he feels each individual piece of his heart shatter by the passing minute and his chest grow heavy. The doctors predicted for you to have woken up two hours ago, but... you haven’t done so.
He doesn’t know what to feel, and it almost feels like each breath he takes only suffocates him even more, and being confined in the walls of the hospital room had been no help. Maybe it’s anguish, fear, guilt, or even anger. Perhaps it was all of the above.
Minghao's hands tremble as he clenches them into fists, tight enough for his knuckles to turn white. He wants to scream, but he restrains himself, and he’s been oddly good at doing so.
If only you knew all the times he had desperately tried to fight back tears knowing that one day, you won’t be waking up next to him anymore𑁋that you won’t wake up at all. Or the times he had fought back anger to hide away just how much he wants to yell at the universe for cursing you with such a damned illness.
As he continues to anxiously pace around the room, a soft knock to the door makes him halt. A man enters into the room𑁋the doctor𑁋with a solemn expression to his face. He glances towards your unconscious body on the bed, before turning back towards Minghao.
“Comparing the results of some tests and a previous medical check-up,” The man takes a noticeable deep breath. “I’m afraid that the disease has progressed its way into their brain, and it’s hard to tell as of now when they will regain consciousness.”
Minghao's body freezes at the doctor's words, and he feels something in his chest tugging painfully at the strings of his heart. The room grows silent aside for the sound of his racing heartbeat pounding in his ears, and the rhythmic beating of the heart monitor.
He means... that you knew all along?
The weight of it all crashes over him like a wave at high tide, and he loosens the grip he has to his fists. He swears that the ground beneath him was crumbling now as he gets himself to run back to your side and bring the hands of your lifeless form into his trembling ones.
“Why didn't you tell me?" he whispers shakily, but his question hangs unanswered in the air. “Dammit, Y/N, why didn’t you tell me?”
He feels the anger inside of him now, but he isn’t angry at you. He’s angry at himself. He clutches at your hands tightly, his grip almost desperate with his fingers running over your knuckles. Minghao's eyes scan frantically over your face, pleading for some type of response, for any sign that you can hear him. But the silence in the room remains unchanged.
Minghao presses his quivering lips against your hand, a river of tears spilling down his face. He blames himself for not seeing the signs. He blames himself for the pain you’ve went through. All he wanted to do was bring you to a place of happiness for just a single day, but it all went downhill, and he blames no one else but himself.
It takes a lot for Minghao to break, but not when it comes to you.
“I’ll beat you to it, Hao!”
Minghao doesn’t race after you, instead he watches with a grin to his face as you dash excitedly in the direction of the ocean water, nearly tripping in the sand in the process. The waves were calm as they crash lightly against the shoreline. It wasn’t much cloudy than before, and the air was still as chilly as the previous days, but for some reason it felt refreshing as ever to breathe in the wintry air and a perfect time to take a stroll near the waters.
He slowly makes his way down to the beach, hands in his pockets as he watches you stop at the edge of where the water rolls into the sand. You turn around to face him, a pout to your face that makes him chuckle to himself.
“You’re such a slowpoke!” You exclaim to him.
When he finally makes his way right next to you, you both look out at the waters together.
“We both know I would’ve beaten you anyways.” Minghao mutters, and he hears you release an annoyed scoff.
You turn towards him, a teasing smirk to your face. “Care to prove it?”
He raises an eyebrow as if contemplating your words for a moment. But with a sudden burst of energy, he takes off running, leaving you behind in the sand. Nothing but laughter leaves you as you follow after him, calling out his name for him to slow the heck down with your feet sinking into the softened sand with each step you took.
It takes some time of more chasing before Minghao finally stops in front of the water. When you arrive next to him, breaths shallow and unsteady from all the running, he quickly circles his arms around your waist like a tender cocoon, pulling you into a loving back hug.
Minghao rests his head comfortingly on your shoulder, his warm breath tickling against the skin of your neck. His touch immediately makes you lean into him, both of your gazes looking straight in the direction of the endless ocean waters. Time seems to stand still, where all the worries of the outside world melt away with each wave that comes in. It's just the two of you together, and no one else.
“I love you.” The words leave his lips like a hushed promise, even though it was only the two of you standing together. “You know that, right?”
"I know," You reply, voice barely above a whisper. “I love you too, Hao.”
As the words suspend quietly in the chilly air, a wistful breeze sweeps over the beach.
“You know I’ve always wanted to get married at the beach?”
Minghao tilts his head slightly, a soft, somewhat playful smile playing on his lips as he gazes into your eyes wonderingly.
“Is that so?” he hums. “Guess this is where we’re going to get married, then.”
You couldn’t tell if it was excitement or surprise that was raging through you. He said it so casually that it nearly makes your entire body go limp in his arms, your heart fluttering and swelling out of your chest.
“Wow, I... I didn’t expect you to say that so easily.” You stammer out your words.
Minghao just chuckles, placing a kiss to the temple of your head. “If that’s what you want, then I promise to make it happen, love.”
You feel the smile bloom onto your face as you bring your eyes back out to the waters again. You feel him rocking you back and forth in his hold, swaying your bodies aside the small waves that come washing onto the shore. But as he continues to hold you and you notice the waves coming in heavier, the smile to your face slowly begins to fade away.
Turning around to face him, you get yourself to light up your face once more.
“Close your eyes,” You tell him, letting your fingers play with his hair flying in the breeze. “Can you do that for me?”
Minghao gives you an odd look, before complying and letting his eyes fall to a close. He feels you release yourself from his grasp until he was holding nothing, which he brings his arms back down to his side. He shivers from a sudden breeze running past him as the anticipation courses through his veins.
Seconds turn into minutes, and all Minghao can hear is the waves beginning to crash louder against the sand. But amidst the sound of nature taking its course, there's silence from you. He doesn’t hear any signs of movement, any noise that can indicate that it was you. He hears nothing.
“Y/N?” he calls out once, twice, three times. “Y/N!”
And when he finally prys open his eyes, he’s met with nothing. All he could see was the seemingly endless beach and ocean stretching out before him in all directions possible. He calls out your name again in desperation, panic, fear, but he doesn’t earn any response, feeling the tears brim in his eyes once more as he sinks to his knees in the sand.
You’re gone.

One day, he was your everything, and the next day, he faded into bittersweet memories. Now, after exactly 5 years, you might be able to patch things up again.
➳ Characters: K x female reader/you
➳ Genre: childhood best friends to strangers to potential lovers, slice of life, fluff, angst, coming of age
➳ Words: 1.9k
➳ Warning: mention of snacks, expectations, an argument
➳ A/N: This story was very much inspired by the beauty that Samidare is, the header is also taken from the MV. Hence, lots of references to rain and cherry blossoms.

Koga Yudai once meant the world for you. No, he was your world, the planet that orbited around you, the gentle wind that embraced you in the long-lasting winter months and the warmth that spread on the field after a heavy storm. If he was the sun, you were the moon, and although different, you complemented each other very well.
You once believed that you were destined to meet. You were destined to walk by him and his mother as he was playing with pebbles by the river, where your friendship had all begun. You always thought of him when you heard the word ‘fate’, and you always imagined him as the kind, handsome male lead in the romance books you loved so much. If he was a famous love song, you were the one who was credited for the lyrics, your name insignificant compared to his existence.
He was the most gentle person you had ever met, his attentiveness not fading even through embarrassing teenage phases and clumsy attempts at finding yourself. Beside him, you never had to pretend who you were, you never had to play a part, and in a way, he was your safe haven. Everyone else expected something from you, but he didn’t. He was just happy to see you and talk to you, even if it was about the seemingly most insignificant things. If he was the stars, you were the sky that let him shine, but in a way, you were glad that he was there to hide the darkness within you.
One day, he was your everything, and the next day, he faded into bittersweet memories. If the betrayal hadn’t hurt so much, you might have been able to tell him a proper goodbye, but you had been too upset over the fact that he had not told you that they were moving, you had only gotten to know about it from his mother.
The distance between you two had widened for some time by that time, and that had been the last straw. With his dance practices being in the afternoons and stretching through weekends and your extracurricular classes taking up most of your time, you had barely had the time to see each other even if you lived across one another. Texts were left on read, conversations in the school corridor were cut short, and hearts were bleeding.
You still saw the same boy in him as the one you had grown up with, but some days, it hurt to look at him with all his bright eyes and sweaty locks sticking to his forehead because you had this jarring feeling stirring up something inside of you, realisation hitting you that maybe, you didn’t know him that well after all.
Even as they were packing into the car in front of their house, you watched the scene from your bedroom’s window, unable to bring yourself to say goodbye to him. So you watched as his parents bid farewell to your parents, and watched as Yudai hesitated getting into the car when he took note of your absence. Then, just a breath away from forever leaving you behind, he slipped a note into your mailbox.
You watched the empty place they left behind after they drove away on the cherry blossom-coated road for a long time before your tears stopped falling. Just as you stopped crying and stepped outside to check the mailbox, the rain started scattering, washing away the last bits of the traces they left behind, soaking your shirt that he had once given you. Through the curtain of fresh raindrops and newly surfacing teardrops, you unfolded the little note.
You once meant the world for Koga Yudai. You were his little hideaway, his secret and then not so secret best friend, the hand that reached out when he was about to fall into self-doubt, the shoulder that he could lean on when the first struggles of professional dancing weighed down on him. If you were his spring, he wanted to be your summer, so that he could give you even more warmth than you had given him, even more time together than you could spare him.
He still believed that you were destined to meet. You were destined to walk by him and his mother as he was playing with pebbles by the river, where your friendship had all begun. He always thought of you when he was dancing because you were the first one who told him to try out dancing, and your support hadn’t wavered since his first performance. If you were his favourite song to dance to, he wanted to be your favourite dance, the one that you would never forget.
You were the most hard-working person he knew, and you didn’t just work hard for school, you worked hard for your friendship, too. You remembered his favourite things and bought him his favourite snacks after his practices, and you always remembered to cheer for him when he was dancing, even if you had to ask your parents to accompany you, even if it was in a different city. Beside him, he never had to hold himself back, he could be as loud as he wanted, he could joke around as much as he wanted, and in a way, you were his safe haven. Even when he started getting noticed by others at school because of his dancing, you still looked at him the same. If you were his nighttime, the one that you could spend together most frequently because of your clashing schedules, the soothing balm after a long day, he wanted to be your morning, so that you would look forward to every day because of him.
One day, you were the most stable point in his life, and then the next day, he had to leave you behind. If he hadn’t felt so hurt by the argument you had had the day before him leaving, he would have made sure to hug you tight and say goodbye properly. Instead, like a coward, he merely left behind a note, the one he wondered if you had ever found, if you had ever read, and if you even remembered.
On the other hand, like a fool, he remembered it all too well, and year after year, he wondered if it was the same for you. He graduated from high school, then graduated from university in Tokyo, wondering if you managed to find something you liked in the meantime, and if you had ended up applying for the university in the capital city you had eyed back then. After all, that’s why he chose today’s location.
He was wondering that day too, whether you remembered the note, whether you could be bothered to make time for a visit to the Rainbow Bridge at 7 PM on 15th of May, 5 years after he had left for Tokyo with his family. Exactly 5 years. He wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t, but still, there was this seed of hope within his heart, the one that told him that the 10 years you had spent together must have meant as much for you as it did for him.
Maybe you didn’t study at a university here after all, maybe you were already working somewhere else, maybe even abroad. Maybe you had a boyfriend, and making excuses for meeting a guy friend from your past would be too much. Maybe you just didn’t want to see him again.
Still, he was waiting on one side of the bridge, leaning onto the railing, watching as vividly pink cherry blossoms from the nearby parks danced in the sky, to a music that only they could listen to. Or maybe they danced to the rapidly beating heart of his. Or the ticking of his watch that he kept checking every other second.
The next time he checked his watch, a drop splashed onto the surface. Then another and another. Yudai looked up and only noticed the dirty grey clouds above the bridge when it was already too late, and rain poured onto him like salvation, like some kind of a blanket that would drape over his shoulders and hide him from the world. So he could wait here like a fool for god knows how long more in case you showed up, though you had already been exactly 17 minutes late, or he could make a run for it, so that he wouldn’t get totally wet until he reached the next metro station.
“Maybe she didn’t find it after all,” Yudai mumbled under his nose as he looked left and right one more time before he decided to head back to the metro station.
With each raindrop, he was closer to blaming himself for even thinking that you could be here today, and closer to losing his temper. If he just shouted into the void, would anyone care? Would the May rain wash it away, too?
“Koga Yudai!”
At first, he thought that he was hallucinating. Maybe hoping too much for seeing you again actually got to him, and he was losing his mind. Yes, that was more possible than you showing up suddenly, when he was about to lose all hope.
“Yudai, stop!”
When you spoke up the second time, he whirled around as fast as he could, watching as you ran towards him in high–heeled boots and a giant pink umbrella, just like the girl in the memories he tried so hard to cling onto.
As you stopped in front of him, he could see that though you were the girl in his memories, you also grew taller, your features more defined, your hair longer, and your eyes sparkling more brightly than before. He felt like he could faint as soon as you halted in front of him like a miracle, like a dream coming true, but then you even stepped closer, so that your umbrella could cover him, and he was rendered speechless.
“I’m so sorry for being late. I was caught up in work, and lost track of time, and then, there were so many people on the metro, I couldn’t get on the first one, and-”
“You have a cherry blossom in your hair,” Yudai cut you off as he reached out to get it out of your hair. What he didn’t expect was for this gesture to feel so natural, so right, and you didn’t back away either. You just blinked at him, confused, and for a moment, he thought that he ruined everything.
What kind of idiot would tell you that you have a cherry blossom in your hair after not seeing you for 5 years? God, he was so damned…
Then, you let out a little giggle, and smacked him in the side, your laughter ringing bells in his heart, awakening something inside of him that he thought he had lost forever.
“You haven’t changed a bit, have you?” You asked with a smile so beautiful, his heart malfunctioned for a moment, but he welcomed the playful teasing, your gentle hug even more, and now he didn’t feel like joking about your height compared to his because he was just glad to have you close to him, your heart beating beside his as if it was meant to be.
You and him, and him and you, and how it became ‘us’ again.

I decided to look at the calendars and the timetable in Muu's MVs and I think I found some interesting things!
Taking in chronological order, the first calendar should be this one, which has the cherry blossoms. In Japan, usually, the flowering cherry trees come into full bloom around the beginning of April. It is the month when the new year of school starts for students.
So it seems that the friend group started the bullying, since the beginning of the school year, Rei's clothes being wet and her items being splattered on the floor. (the calendar in this scene also shows the cherry blossoms)
Remember this is the moment when Rei decides to turn "upside down" Muu's reputation at school, when she considers that enough is enough.
So then it raises the question... How much time Muu was bullied at school?
Well to find out we have again to look at the calendar.
This one should be a month from autumn, more exactly early September.
To understand better my line of thoughts, I will explain how did I reached this conclusion!
Beginning with the timetable!
Considering that the murder takes place during sunset, I thought that it was important to find when Muu finishes her classes.
"In a typical high school in Japan, teachers gather each morning at 8:30 a.m. for a brief meeting. Students meet at 8:35 a.m. for a 5-minute homeroom period. Regular classes begin at 8:45 a.m. and there are four 50-minute classes before lunch. High school students eat in their homeroom. "
With this information, I figured out that the empty space between hours is for lunch, because there are already four classes before it.
"Two afternoon periods are followed by school clean-up and a 5-minute homeroom meeting, after which students are dismissed at 3:30 p.m."
Muu has, after lunch, one or two afternoon periods.
Also, interesting she also has four classes on Saturday, something that is pretty common in Japan. "On Saturday the day ends after four periods, at 1 p.m."
Getting back to the topic, the classes usually end at 3:30 pm or 4 pm most of the time. However, it's pretty clear that it's not the hour when Rei goes home and the murder happens. Not only the sunset will not start so early, but also Muu's phone gives us a hint of the time.
But why are they at such a late hour at school, if the classes should end at around 3:30 pm? Simple, club activities after classes, at which most students in Japan attend to!
"Club activities are held after school and run until 5 or 6 p.m. One hour per week is devoted to mandatory club activity. Other club activity is voluntary."
They last around 2 hours, so, if we take into consideration Muu's timetable, the clubs should end at around 5:30 - 6 pm. (might depend on the club)
Now, I want to point out this specific interrogation question:
"What kind of kid where you?"
The past tense it's very interesting to me: "I did many extracurricular activities". Yes, it might refer to her younger self, but, considering that, even in high school, clubs are heavily encouraged in Japan, it's rather odd that she doesn't say that she still attends them.
That's because, in reality, she probably stopped going to those once she started to be bullied, which explains why she is the only one in the classroom, waiting for the club activities to be finished, so she can go home.
"School club activities, commonly known as “bukatsu” in Japan, play a significant role in the lives of students. These extracurricular activities are an integral part of the Japanese school experience, providing a platform for personal growth, skill development, and fostering a sense of community."
Club activities are a good way to spend your time with your friends, while doing something that you like. Because Muu started to be bullied, she had no reason to attend to these anymore. Not only she would spend her time alone, but also risk being picked on again, preferring to stay in the classroom.
With the idea that the clubs from Muu's school should end around 5:30 pm, we can decide the month based on when the sun fully sets.
I will admit that it took me a while to notice the yellow dots, which should resemble the leaves, so, because of the warm colours, I thought that the calendar showed July. Not August, because, in most schools in Japan, there is a summer vacation which starts from July 20 to August 31.
However, considering that Muu lives in Minato Ward, Tokyo, as seen in this post, the sun should fully set at around 7 pm, during July. Which doesn't really makes sense, because Rei should be outside of school, after club activities and some time spent preparing her herself to go, at around 5:40 - 5:45 pm, when there is not a sunset.
What made me, at first, not consider autumn as an option, where the green leaves from this scenery. So I researched a little and found put that in Tokyo, the leaves don't start to fall until late November.
Which left me with two options: September and October.
October was easily out of the question, because, in the first day of October the sun fully sets at 5:26 pm, which is too early.
Which leaves us with September, when the sun sets at around 6 pm. Taking into account the minutes before Muu reaches Rei in that day, I think it's safe to assume that early September, should be the time when the murder took place.
I hope I gave a good explanation and found some interesting things about Muu! Thank you for reading!
Sources if anyone is interested!

Entrusting these dreams to this wide and big blue sky,
Now is the time to say farewell
Believe in the future and let’s fly away
With our faith in lively powers of youth
Toward this wide and big blue sky
『 Have you wondered what the color of “Spring” is? 』
Most people will say it’s “Pink” or “White”
—Since they are derived from the most memorable sight that marks the arrival of this season: Cherry Blossoms.
And there are a few that say it’s “Green”
—The hue of new sprouts and young buds, signifying the sign of renewal and the fresh start after the long slumber in winter
However, among those shades of hue, have you ever heard the word “Seishun (青春 - Blue Spring)” ...?
—Step up, youths! It’s time for you to shine!
