No thoughts. Just an AU where Jean is Moira Mactaggerts daughter and Charles is her father, but Moria died so now he's a widowed single dad.
Erik, who is now a widdow and single father too, due to Natalya Maximoff also dying, has trouble dealing with his twins by himself so asks Charles, an old fling, to help him.
Anyway, I'm thinking about Wanda telling Charles how much her daddy talks about him at home and Jean awkwardly telling Erik how sad and lonely her father is while painting his nails.
"Yeah. He talks about you this much" the child says, putting her arms out to show emphasis.
Charles only wants to mutter a small 'I know' but stops himself. "Oh? Is that so?"
She nods, "Yup. Peter thinks you look funny by way."
"Why? Because of my legs?"
"No. Because tou have no hair. He says you look like a egg."
"... ah.. I see.."
"Are you gonna tell daddy I said that?"
"Do you want me too?"
"No."
"Then I won't." And he doesn't, not very shocked at the idea of being called an egg. He's been called worse.
Meanwhile-
"My father is so sad."
"Huh?"
"Yeah. He's so lonely."
"...."
"And he misses you."
".... what else does he say?"
"I'm not supposed to talk about it." She says innocently and casually, painting his fingers black.
"Oh..."
She then, not so innocently, mentions something to him about ice cream.
It kind of freaks him out because it's like looking at a tiny charles. "Was that you?"
"Do you think your nails are pretty?" She changes the subject.
"Uh.. yeah.. Er.. hey! Do you want to come with me later to get Peter and Wanda ice cream?"
"Yes."
"Good...." It's at this moment that Erik realizes he was just bribed by a child. He doesn't know if he's creeped out or proud...
"...did you just?"
She gives him these big guilty eyes. "...Are you going to tell my papa?"
"No.. I won't tell him." He smiles.
"Won't tell me what?" Charles asks, coming in with Peter.
Erik almost jumps, wondering how much he heard. "Oh nothing. Just that were going to get ice cream later."
Peter throws his arms up "Yay!!"
Charles sighs, giving a nervous smile, the kind he gave when you know damn well he was judging you right now. "Im not sure if more sugar would be the best idea for this little lad right now."
"Did he break something?" Erik asks, used to his uncontrollable speed causing damage.
"Not yet." His mutters, through grit teeth and a glance that said 'this boy needs to run in the yard, NOT my mansion' kind of eyes.
Erik only laughs. "Alright, alright... let's go. Will you be joining us?"
"Us?"
"Yes. I mentioned bringing Jean along a few moments ago, remember?"
Charles only smirks. "You can't possibly think i'd let you pay."
"Yeah yeah, no need to flash your rich boy privileges at me. But for your information we are quite comfortable on our own. I don't need your financal pity."
"Oh trust me you don't need the financal kind.." he says under his breath, smirking when given a large glare. "I heard that."
But oh, why was his shit eating grin so.. kissable? He wanted to smear it off once the children went to bed. Charles has always been this way, though. He loved a good tease.
"Good."

Okay this is a good concept to me that I’ve had in my head for ages but love the idea of Charles and Erik being married and raising a baby Peter/Pietro (Depending on which name version you want to use) and everyone is surprised as he grows up because Peter’s really chill and quite funny and despite being a little mischievous is generally a sweet kid and they all thought he’d be more like Erik (they’re all used to Erik’s grumpy persona because they don’t know him as well as the family do and Erik is more likely to be kind to his husband and children than random people) and they’re like oh well he must be a little more like Charles then.
The thing that makes them think oh shit there’s Erik is when someone insults or hurts Charles in front of Peter and he gets the most furious look on his face that matches the look Erik gets when someone hurts or insults Charles.
I need fic recs please!

okay, cherik idea here.
And this is a really, really wacky one.... but hear me out (honestly, I think I'm just built for thinking of/writing crackfics).
So, you know that thing where your brain has to make everything you see, think of, listen to, and talk about relate to your current hyperfixation? Well, if you don't... just know I do.
So, I rewatched the barbie movie tonight (you can see where this is going) and my brain was like, hm, okay, how can we make this cherik?
I present to you: this very dumb idea.
So, it's a few years after the ken takeover and the barbies and kens talking things out and mattel visiting barbieland and that one barbie leaving to be a human, and slowly kens are starting to carve out their own places in society.
Let's look at this one ken. He's always felt a little like the odd one out, even during the ken-mojo-dojo-casa-house-kendom-kenland takeover thing where supposedly all kens were just living their best, most kenough lives. (He wonders sometimes, what the other kens would think, if he knew he'd felt the way about some of them that they had felt for barbies.)
After all that happened, he decided to go to university, since he had always been friends with biologist barbie and doctor barbie and philosophy barbie (okay the other two might not be real but I KNOW doctor barbie's a thing). So he goes, he gets a degree, he's chilling. Whatever. (you guys see where this is going, yeah?)
He also chills with weird barbie all the time, since he finds her really smart and interesting to talk to, and sometimes she has books from the real world that he gets to read. And that's really cool.
Then one day, he gets really sad. And really tired. And he's thinking about loss a lot, like, what if he lost his friends? what if they grow up, and change, and they don't need him anymore? And his wardrobe, which had always been kind of a cute, ken-ish style academia, has gotten super depressing and subdued. And he doesn't know what to make of it.
So, he goes and chats with his friend weird barbie, and she tells him all about the barbie who went to the real world a few years ago -- a story she never wanted to talk about before. She says that this is exactly how that started for her -- and that whoever's playing with him must be experiencing some kind of crisis, and their emotions were bleeding into his life.
And before she can even finish talking, he's gripped with this overwhelming sense of sadness for that person -- and the feeling that he wants to help them stop feeling so awful. And so, when weird barbie says that he could go to the real world to help, he doesn't even think twice.
She does, though, and says that since it worked out so crazy last time, he needs a plan going in. While barbieland has become a little more like the real world, it's still REALLY different. So she has him make up a story and choose a name for himself.
Charles Xavier: thirty three years old. He lived in westchester for years. He has a degree in genetics and a passion for learning (though those aren't a lie). He's estranged from his family, but still has some money (weird barbie gave him this thing called a credit card). He's new to LA.
With that, weird barbie sends him forth into the real world.
(I'm going to take a pause here and just mention that originally i had the ken as erik, but then realized i needed a girldad to be the human. Not that charles isn't, but he's got david, and erik has... wanda, nina, anya, and lorna, not to even mention peter, so we're just sticking with erik as the human and the twins as his kids. no, i can't add all his kids i'm too tired to work them into the plot.)
And everything's different there, and messy, and he finds himself a little intimidated, especially after wandering around and meeting weird people (let's just say he hit a bad spot of the city) and he's about to go home when he stumbles into a library. And it's a little bit like he's seen this library before, somewhere, in a dream... but also like it's his first time seeing this big, beautiful library, and obviously he's a nerd, so it's like a kid in a candy shop.
He's been roaming around the aisles and browsing through some of the books for hours, and then he gets kicked out because it's closing. And it's night. He finds himself walking around, and then stumbling into a fight...
well, not so much a fight -- more just one boy, getting beat up, by a few other boys. Older boys. Bigger boys. Well, bigger than the first boy. Not full grown adults with ken muscles. So, the ken intervenes -- first with his words, then with his fist. And he can't even think about how it hurt to hit those guy's faces when he's focused on comforting the first boy. A boy who... well, the ken almost feels like he knows him, somehow.
He says his name's Pietro, well, nobody calls him that, it's actually peter, and when asked what he's doing there at night he gets really quiet, then admits to the ken -- to... Charles -- that those boys told him to meet them there. That they were going to hang out, finally. That they'd be his friends if he just sucked it up and stopped being such a little wimp and snuck out tonight. So he did, and now his face is all messed up and he got blood on his jeans and his dad is going to be so mad-
Charles manages to calm him down, and he walks the boy home, fending off the creeps of the city because protecting peter has become his new main priority.
And when the door opens, he recognizes the man standing there, just like he recognized the library, just like he recognized peter. And he's not sure why, but he gets the feeling that maybe this is the person he's come to the real world to find.
The man, Erik Lehnsherr, as he introduces himself, is obviously livid, not at Charles, but at peter. He thanks Charles, though, in a very heartfelt manner -- he's so grateful that someone brought his boy back safe.
And then, like that, he says goodbye, and the door closes, and Charles doesn't know what to do. Erik's the person he's come here for, he's sure of that.
He gets himself a hotel room not too far away with weird barbie's credit card, and decides to try and figure it out tomorrow.
Meanwhile, after scolding Peter for sneaking out, cleaning up his face, promising to use his magical homemade stain-remover potion on his son's jeans, and sending the boy to bed, Erik finds himself unable to sleep. It's been like this for months now, really. Ever since the twins have gone to high school he's been feeling down and out.
He goes to his desk in his office, thinking that maybe he can get some work done if he's not going to sleep, and ends up pulling out that stupid ken doll that he saved from the donate bin wanda put out on the street three weeks ago.
When he played dolls with the twins when they were little, this was always the doll they made his doll marry. "dad's ken." Even back then, even when they were making the barbies fight to the death and launch air raid attacks on the legos, his kids didn't want him to be lonely.
Though now, as they're getting older, it's like they've forgotten how they all used to be friends. His friends. Wanda and peter are always fighting now, and peter's hanging out with jerks and sneaking out and getting low grades, and wanda has a boyfriend who seems perfectly nice but there's just got to be something wrong with him and erik worries she's gotten too caught up in all the drama and he's just the same as he's always been. They're growing up, and he can't help them, and sometimes it's like they're changing and growing and he's not -- he's just getting older.
(I'm going to make a side note here -- why the hell have i been typing a cherik barbie au for 45 minutes?? what has this fandom done to my brain???)
His thoughts turn, suddenly, to the kind stranger, Charles, who saved peter tonight. Brought him home safe.
He almost looked a little like the ken. brown hair, blue eyes. But then again, he was better -- he had freckles, too, and his eyes were even bluer than any painted-on blue could be, smart, too, and with that accent... Erik shakes his head, scolds himself for thinking those thoughts about a complete stranger, and forces himself to go to bed, hoping it will all be forgotten in the morning.
But then he sees Charles again. And again. And again.
Charles, at the library he frequents. Charles, at the coffee shop where he goes sometimes after the twins have gone to school. Charles, randomly, on the street, Charles, Charles, Charles.
Meanwhile, Charles -- because, yes, that fits better than ken ever did -- is having the time of his life exploring the human world. He's read so many books. He's eaten so many delicious new foods, and the coffee cups actually have liquid in them (disgusting liquid. He's found he prefers tea). He's found that he really needs a proper cellphone to exist, and goes out and gets one -- making an email with his new name. He finds that there are places he just instinctively recognizes, the way he did the library and erik and peter, and he explores those places -- and new ones, too.
Speaking of Erik; he sees him everywhere. Sometimes it's on purpose -- he does know that the man will frequent the spots he recognizes -- but a lot of the times, really, it's by complete accident.
They strike up a conversation at the library, about a book. Charles mentions that he's kind of new to LA and doesn't really know anyone yet, and Erik asks if he'd like to meet up with some friends of his for drinks sometime. Now, mind you, he has no clue the next time all of them will have an evening free, but the offer's there.
And then Charles asks if maybe, he'd like to sit at the same table together at the cafe tomorrow morning. They're both going. They may as well. Erik accepts, and Charles feels this strange fluttering feeling in his chest -- a little bit like how he'd felt about a few people back at home, but never with this intensity.
They have coffee. They have coffee twice, three times, five times. Ten. Every morning. Coffee turns into dinner, which turns into three dinners, which turns into dating.
Erik makes a joke a few times, about this ken doll that he stole from wanda, the one that they used to joke that he'd marry that looks just like him. And Charles feels that fluttering feeling again, because while Erik may not know it, he's that ken doll, and somehow the idea of having been married to this incredible man, even in a make-believe setting, is amazing.
Charles meets Wanda. Charles hangs out with her and peter and their dad. Charles moves in. Charles comforts a crying wanda when she breaks up with her boyfriend -- and much worse, her best friend is ghosting her too. Charles helps peter with his homework and talks with him about his friendship problems and his problems with his sister. Charles learns to cook, Erik laughing by his side in the kitchen as he burns eggs. Charles meets Erik's friends. Charles gets a teaching position at the nearby university (he found a way to use his barbieland credentials. I'm too tired to think up the specifics right now so that's all I'll say). Charles convinces Erik that he's still living and growing, too, just like his children. To be human is to change, constantly -- an idea he's becoming more and more familiar with as the days pass. While he thinks of his friends back in barbieland from time to time, this, what he has with erik, his new friends, even peter and wanda, this is more real than anything he's ever had before. He feels like a person. Maybe he is. All he knows is he wants to stay.
But, of course, eventually mattel realizes one of their dolls is on the loose in the real world again -- and this issue must be rectified as soon as possible, because, wow, look at what happened last time (they had to continue producing ken's mojo dojo casa houses because people wanted them so bad, even after the ken takeover was over). They notify the heads of their departments: keep a look out for british ken (probably not a thing but you know what we're making it a thing), brunette, blue eyes, on the shorter side, wearing cardigans, reading books.
Erik lehnsherr, head of the art department, gets... a little concerned.
Hadn't he been thinking that Charles was just like that ken?
Hadn't charles shown up right after he'd seen the doll for the first time in years, dug out of the back of wanda's closet (ha, he came out of the closet) to be donated?
Didn't he fit that exact description?
Well, how do you ask your boyfriend if he's a barbie doll?
And what do you do when he gets all quiet, and asks how you figured it out?
Mattel intervenes, obviously. Shit gets tense for a little while, but in the end... They realize it hasn't made an impact. Nobody back in barbie world is worried too much about one missing, discontinued ken. Not enough for it to effect either world.
Maybe it makes Charles a little sad, that his old friends seem to have forgotten about him. But what matters more is he gets to stay with the man he loves, the man who somehow still loves him back, the two messy, sometimes awful, amazing teenagers that he's come to love as though they're his own, and all the friends he's made.
They have a big-ass, glamorous wedding, curtesy of weird barbie's self-refilling credit card (yeah, they're pretty much infinitely rich now. they decide not to ruin the economy and just use it when they need it and make large donations to charities as much as they can.)
And that is what I thought of the entire time I watched barbie tonight.

i have a feeling that if erik had to eat my diet for a week he would be dead by the first day, 1-2 monsters a day, strawberry pocky, coke to fill in the gaps when i don’t have a monster energy glued to my hands, and like, shitty air fried mozzarella sticks
One monster energy drink would kill him i'm sure of it so I don't think he'd survive a whole day. He's not built for it💔

cherik au where apocalypse was never awakened so cherik just went on with their lives without each other
Tumblr media
that’s it
i guess if you want to make it interesting you could have Charles fly over to poland (and other countries) to convince more mutants to come to his school and he ends up at Erik’s house
they act like strangers in front of Magda but they’re both fighting the urge to makeout in the shed 😔
drama 🫡
Charles telling himself he’s just here for Nina but DAMN is her dad hot 😻 (NO CHARLES DON’T FALL FOR HIS CHARMS AGAIN‼️‼️ NOOO)

Do you know the movie "Yours, Mine and Ours" (2005), for short, it's a movie about two single parents who already have a lot of kids, and have a very different life style and parenting mode but they fall in love and decide to live together in a huge house with all of their children, 18 kids in total, from kid to teenagers. And because they're very different families, it's a total mess, but it's pretty fun.
So... Imagine an AU like that with Cherik ? Their kids are the ones they actually have in comics + some of the X-Men kids.
It's still a new idea so if you want to build this AU with me, choose which X-Men kids should be with which Dad for example (because I don't know about that yet), or just add details or context, please feel free to do anything with it !!

Erik: *shows up to the x-mansion*
Scott: MAGNETO!? What are you doing here!? Alright gang time to fry this guy-
Charles: Im afraid there's no need for that. Erik..
Erik: Charles... Do you have what's owed to me?
Charles: Depends. Do you?
Erik: *steps aside to show Peitro with a dufflebag*
Peitro: *takes off his headphones confusedly* This isn't disneyland...?
Charles: Logan.
Logan, also with a duffle bag, growling and obviously pissed off: Why do I have to go? Im older than both of you.
Charles: Because, It's your father's weekend and he's bassically the only one that can control your feral behavior.
Peitro: Wait, what!? You said we were going to disneyland!! Now you want me to stay at some weird bald guys mansion!?
Erik: Be nice to your dad, boy! Come now, Logan. I set up a room for you and we're getting ice cream.
Peitro: What the actual fuck!? You've never taken me for ice cream!!?
Charles: Yes, come my child. I'll put you in a death room and watch you suffer. If you live, I'll have Hank reward you with some ice cream :)
Logan: *Groans* Fine but Im NOT calling him dad. You're not my dad! Got it!?
Logan on Eriks couch trying to figure out how he got here, and also wondering why he was part of the shared custody agreement in their divorce:

There will be no Beach Divorce in my AU Cherik fic because it’s supposed to be happy but I started imagining my AU (where Charles and Erik are married and adopted the students who are young children in first class) with some of the canon elements so that DoFP still happens and now I’m thinking about a depressed Charles struggling to cope with his pain, his telepathy and his husband and some of the kids leaving while their son Hank stayed to take care of his dad.
Also imagine the absolute angst of Erik reuniting with them when they get him out and he has to see how much he’s hurt Charles and to see one of his babies is now a young man and is so mistrusting and angry with him.
I swear I don’t really like to make myself sad but imagine the angst 😭

Here is part 5 of me watching all the x-men movies in order with commentary from when I was texting my friend about it
fifth: dark phoenix
(ps i was told not to watch it but i made a commitment, I WILL watch all the x-men movies)
charles her parents just DIED and ur promoting ur school? i mean i know u want to help but give the girl time to process man
"it's a gift" SHE JUST KILLED HER PARENTS IDK IF SHE IS REALLY FEEING GIFTED
WHY IS HANK NORMAL AGAIN COME ON
oh nvm i guess he's blue again
mystique looks so much worse her wig and her makeup do not match what she looked like previously
why did kurt need a helmet and jean didn't? she is literally in the vacuum of space she should be dead rn
bro charles and raven are sooo out of character based on the previous movies, why did they just switch motivations and personalities???
oh hey dazzler!
i truly do belive that charles is trying to help jean and the other students, he just goes about it horribly
one thing i do like abt this movie is charles characterization, he comes off as really wanting to help and being a genuinely good person, he just can't admit his faults and SERIOUSLY messes up a lot
bro i know all of these actors can be good why are they acting so poorly?????
did the director just choose their worst takes??? like what??
so Jean is a God now?
girl i don't think they are afraid of u be ur so cool and powerful but because you killed a woman
WHOA SCOTT AND MAGNETO ARE SWEARING SO MUCH
HOW CAN THEY DO THAT
bro who are these side villains?? і gotta admit the guy with the dreads he can move is pretty cool but who is the girl lookin like negasonic teenage warhead???
THESE EFFECTS ARE SO WILD
WHATTTT IS HAPPENING
the effects of jean making him walk were so gross i literally had to fast forward a bit they look so bad and uncanny
i know that's kinda the point but i cantttttt
jean i wouldn't trust weird alien lady if i were u
yoo charles admits he's wrong for once in his life!! let's go!!!
i do love all the beast content in this movie
THAT WAS SO AWESOME
KURT JUST DROPPED HER IN FRONT OF A TRAIN
YES!!!
i know he seems all innocent but in these movies he was in the fighting rings
he has DEFINITELY killed someone before
i love him so much
overall this movie is bad but this fight scene is SICK
LIKE ERIK JUST CRUSHED A TRAIN CAR THATS SO COOL
"i had a change of heart" erik we all know you are just down bad for charles and you will do anything if he asks u really sincerely
you can't fool me
charles and jean are so father daughter core
i mean he's not a great dad but they sure have the dynamic
CHERIK COFFEE SHOP AU YEAHH
bro do u know what the name of that cafe is
the french says "vieux copains"
THAT LITERALLY TRANSLATES TO OLD FRIENDS
THEY ARE AT THE CAFE OF OLD FRIENDS
well that movie was... bad
there were some good parts
but overall it was not good
it wasn't even funny bad like origins wolverine
this movie was NOT funny and if i'm being honest i only watched it for that scene at the end cuz i saw gifs of it on here

I'm having thoughts again (it's a very dangerous thing, thinking is): Cherik matilda au, with Jean as matilda. Honestly, it'd probably be a jean-centric fic, background cherik, because i mean miss honey doesn't have a love interest in the original lol. (Oh, right, Charles = miss honey. Erik also kind of = miss honey. they're sharing the role.)
ALSO i'm basing this on the book and the original movie, not the musical and musical movies. I love all incarnations of matilda but I am too tired to work in the whole premonition story thing.
So Jean is just chilling. She's like two years old and already she can cook and clean and pretty much be self sufficient. Her parents are self-absorbed assholes who don't really pay her any mind, and her brother is a little shit who's older than her and never home anyways.
She goes to the library, and she reads. She expands her horizons. She learns. She develops a yearning to see the world outside of her lonely little life -- she may be self-sufficient, but it doesn't mean she doesn't want any friends.
Now, when she's six, she tells her parents that she really should've started school already, and her dad makes a deal with this terrifying man to send her off to Hellfire Elementary (sounds like a great place for kids, amiright?)
There she meets Ororo, who's funny and nice, and then there's Logan, this older kid who's absolutely TERRIFYING (at least he thinks he is, jean's calling his bs). He warns them about the headmaster -- Shaw. The truly terrifying one.
Shaw in this isn't really the kevin bacon shaw. He's like if shaw lost his fucking marbles and became a really buff lunatic. He throws a girl wearing her hair in pigtails over the fence. It's insane.
Then Jean goes to her class. The first years have two teachers -- Mr. Lehnsherr and Mr. Xavier, who tells them just to call him Charles as long as Shaw's not around.
The classroom is kind of amazing. They've got art by students hanging everywhere and cute little posters and vases of wildflowers, the doors opened to the school grounds and filtering in the last of the warm summer air. To Jean, it feels magical. She's finally at school. She finally feels like she's going to get to be in the world. She chats with Ororo and some kid named Scott before the bell rings.
(Now for teaching duo cherik! I'm thinking for them, this is an established relationship fic. )
They've both been hurt by shaw (more on that later) to the point where they've become more muted versions of their personalities.
Charles is kind, as he always is, but in this he's very soft-spoken and stuff. Even as he smiles warmly at the kids, checking on the girl with the pigtails, Jean notices this deep sadness in his eyes.
And then there's Erik. He's quiet, very matter-of-fact when he does speak up, methodical. He's very gentle with all of the children, though, and Jean sees him tracking Charles with his eyes, as though he's sure something awful will happen to him as soon as he lets him out of his sight. Again, his eyes hold some deep sadness, some hidden pain.
As the lessons begin, they're shocked by Jean. Her reading, her writing. Her incredible math abilities.
( found this cute little line from the original book, and i wanted to adapt it (very erik-core):
"It's not fair," Ororo says, "How can she do it and we can't?"
"Don't worry, Ororo, you'll soon catch up," Mr. Lehnsherr says, lying through his teeth. )
After class is over, Charles wants to talk to Shaw, try and get Jean in a more advanced grade. Erik doesn't want him to go. They go together, and Shaw pretty much yells at them and threatens them until they leave.
They decide to think of another way to go -- they can't have jean just sitting in class, learning how to spell r-a-t when she's read shakespeare already.
Back at home, for another week or so, Jean's life continues much the same as it always does. Her parents: the assholes. Then her father takes her and her brother into work one day, telling his son he needs to learn the family trade. Jean's just there.
He shows them all sorts of illegal things he does to the cars before he sells them -- sawdust in the engine, running the miles backwards until the car seems barely used. It's not legal. Worse, it's not safe.
Jean speaks out and gets yelled at.
So she finds some superglue and glues his stupid hat to his head the next day. And so starts her rebellion.
Charles and Erik decide that perhaps it's best to speak to Jean's parents directly. Cue creepy CGI cherik from the last stand. No, no, I'm kidding. They just show up there, try to talk to the greys, who really aren't having it, and before they leave Erik sneaks a book behind a coat rack, Jean smiling at him from where she's hidden on the stairwell, having listened to the whole thing.
Jean plays another prank on her parents for treating her teachers so bad (blabbermouth parrot in the chimney. Mrs. Grey is convinced they've got a ghost).
Meanwhile, at school, Charles and Mr. Lehnsherr give her all these workbooks with more difficult math and language and science, apologizing that they can't instruct her directly or get her into a more advanced class but promising to help if she has any questions (she doesn't).
Anyways. Then we get to the interesting part.
It's been a while, and Jean's seen the horrors of Shaw. He made a boy eat a whole cake in front of the school. he throws kids out windows. And there's this terrible thing called the chokey.
Shaw comes into their classroom to teach his monthly class -- Charles and Mr. Lehnsherr quickly hiding all the art and decorations in the room.
Ororo sneaks a newt into shaw's water. Pandemonium breaks out. Shaw starts targeting poor scott, of all people, who's not capable of breaking a rule.
Something in Jean snaps. And the glass tips over, sending the newt right onto shaw and shaw right out of their classroom.
After class, she explains it to Charles and Mr. Lehnsherr. She shows them what she can do. With just a little bit of anger, she can push the glass over.
The two teachers glance at each other (after being quite shocked, of course), then Charles asks if she'd like to have tea, and talk about this more, if her parents wouldn't mind.
Jean knows that they most certainly don't care where she is, and agrees.
Charles and Mr. Lehnsherr bring her to a small cottage, surrounded by wildflowers. The walls are whitewashed. There are two little windows. Charles spreads cheap margarine on the toast. Mr. Lehnsherr pulls two chipped mugs out -- there doesn't appear to be a third. The kitchen is just a shelf, really, with a little portable stove.
Charles asks Jean if she'd be willing to get them some water from the well out back. She has a wonderful time doing so, never having drawn from a well before.
She and Charles have tea and toast, sitting on the crates that are the only furniture in the whole of the tiny cottage. Mr. Lehnsherr sits cross-legged on the floor, leaning against Charles's crate a little and not eating or drinking anything.
Jean, as a small child -- because, yes, no matter how smart and independent she is, she's still a small child -- asks a few questions that might be a little too personal, inquiring about just how poor their salaries are to live like this.
"Why shouldn't you ask?" Charles says, after Jean apologizes. "You were bound to ask in the end. You are much to bright to not have wondered. Perhaps... Perhaps we even wanted you to ask."
Erik nods his head, saying his solemn voice, "You're our first visitor, after all."
Quietly, a little sadly, Charles begins to tell Jean a story. He once lived in a large brick house in town. His mother passed when he was born, and his father was absent until he died, leaving him in the care of an uncle. The uncle brought with him a ward, Erik.
The uncle was an unkind man. He forced them to work around the clock, doing the household chores and the cooking and anything else he could think of, like they were servants and not young children. He would beat them if they disobeyed -- and even when they didn't.
They managed to go to the teacher's college about forty minutes away when they both turned eighteen. They could've gone to university -- but the evil man wouldn't allow it.
"How did you get away?" Jean asks, equally riveted and in deep sympathy for her kind teachers.
They tell a story of being forced to sign away their salaries to the uncle, since apparently they "owed him thousands" for being just barely fed and clothed for ten years. With the little that they got to keep, it seemed they would never get a place of their own...
But Mr. Lehnsherr, on his early morning walks, stumbled into a small, empty cottage. He went to find out who owned it, and the farmer, after insisting he didn't want to live there, agreed to rent it out for ten pence a month.
Charles and Mr. Lehnsherr (who, at a point, sighed and told Jean just to call him Erik since they're not at school) quietly packed their things, informed the evil man that they'd rented a house, and rushed out the door.
While Jean is happy for their triumph, she's aghast of the idea of the evil man still living in Charles's old home. He says that his father's will was apparently destroyed ("no prizes for guessing who," Jean says, and Erik huffs a laugh) and his uncle produced a piece of paper saying the house was to go to him -- Charles is sure it was counterfeit, but there's nothing he can do.
"He still owns my family property a town over, too," Erik says quietly. "Won in much the same fashion." His hands are balled into fists, his face mournful and angry. He doesn't elaborate, and Jean and Charles are smart enough not to push.
Jean asks who the evil man is.
With a glance at his partner, Charles says the name "Shaw."
After the initial shock, the conversation changes, and Jean eventually excuses herself to go home. Charles and Erik apologize for keeping her so late, walking her to the end of the dirt road and back to the sidewalk.
Before they part, Jean asks a few questions: what did Charles's father call him before he passed? Charlie. He hated it. What did charles and Erik's parents call Shaw? Sebastian. His first name. And what did he call their parents? Brian, Charles answers. ...Edie, Erik whispers after a moment of hesitation.
Jean practices her new gift at home. It's not long until she can lift things at whim, pointing at them or staring at them or just thinking of it. She plots. She plans. She practices what's needed for her plots and her plans.
The next time Shaw comes into their classroom, he's startled by the whiteboard chalk floating into the air, beginning to write a message:
Sebastian, give my Charlie back his house. Give him and Erik their wages. Give Erik his land. Then get out of here. If you don't, we will get you. We will get you like you got us. We are watching you, Sebastian.
There is a great commotion as Shaw passes out on the floor in shock. He's carted out of the school. He leaves the brick house within a day. Reportedly, Brian Xavier's will turns up. Charles and Erik move into the great house. Charles is appointed headmaster of the newly christened "Big Friendly School." (Note: this is taken from the source material. I don't think charles would name something after himself in this au tbh). Jean is a welcome visitor anytime.
Then, one day, arriving back from the brick house in the evening, she finds her parents packing up the car. They're moving to spain, they say. Her father has been caught, which they don't say, but is clear.
Jean runs all the way back to Charles and Erik's house. Jean begs them to let her stay -- she doesn't want to leave, and she certainly doesn't want to be trapped with her parents forever in a foreign country.
Charles and Erik come with her back to her house. She takes some adoption papers out, which, funnily enough, she's had since she was tall enough to use the copier at the library! Boss move, Jean.
her parents don't fucking care, so they sign the papers. Charles and Erik are pretty much about to cry. They're parents, now, something they never thought they could be. They hug Jean, something her own parents never did, and don't bother to watch them leave.
Now, they all live in the big brick house together, and it's a house full of reading and laughter and life, all three of them, daughter and her fathers, finding a kind of happiness they never thought they'd be able to have.
and that's it. Why did I spend two hours writing this. 😂

dofp fics that have a happy ending for cherik?
Most of these fics take place post-DOFP or they are DOFP fix-its / AUs. They are all excellent and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, Anon!
fathers and sons by M_Leigh
“I have an – interest – in Peter Maximoff,” Erik said, somewhat grudgingly, glaring. “A – familial – interest –”
Everybody stared at him.
“In that – mutantkind is one – large – family –” Erik said valiantly, if pathetically.
“Oh, shit,” Alex said. “No way. No way.”
This far but no further by niniblack
“Lorna, this is Erik. Can you say hi?”
Lorna peeks out at him and mumbles, “Hi.”
“She’s cute,” Erik comments.
I know, Charles thinks. She looks like you.
Or: the one where Charles doesn’t tell Erik that joining the mile high club resulted in a baby.
Jail Break by blarfkey (Come Together series)
It's totally normal in Suburban America for the dad to pick up his rebellious teenager from jail, right? Even when it's the Pentagon instead of the local police station, and your dad is a Mutant Supremacist Assassin and America's Most Wanted who didn't post bail so much as murdered all the guards?
Whatever. Peter will take what he can get at this point, even if it means the most painfully awkward road trip in the history of the universe.
Thou Shalt Not Eat Stones by valancysnaith
Two months after Washington, Raven found Erik in a skeevy motel off the Florida interstate.
“They have Charles, Erik,” she said.
The bedframe shrieked. In the bathroom, the showerhead snapped in half and clattered into the tub.
Through the Barricades by starandrea (Through the Barricades series)
Erik and Charles learned to live without each other once. It's harder the second time--so before they even discuss it, they've decided not to try. (Erik accidentally moves into the mansion without anyone but Charles noticing for days. He may be the first to return, but he won't be the last.)
Hope by daymarket
A near-decade of hatred can't be wiped out with a single summer, no matter how eventful that summer might be. When Erik shows up uninvited at the mansion, Charles is just barely civil enough to not throw him out, but that doesn't mean he'll let him stay.
All our past times by aesc
In 1976, three years after D.C. and Trask, Erik returns to Charles's estate for the first time. What he's looking for, he doesn't entirely know, and doesn't know if he wants to find it.
Shalom Malakh by ZairaA
When death catches up with Erik a year after the Sentinel disaster, he only has one regret: never having found a way to bridge the gap and reconcile with Charles. But death is not the end of the journey, and Erik is put right in the path of his old friend once more.
“Okay. Let’s say I bite. Who is the hapless idiot then? The one I'm supposed to look after?”
The woman smirked. “Oh, I’m certain you'll know it once you see him.”
Always Pass on Good Advice by cygnaut
Charles realizes there’s only one person who can talk Erik out of his terrible plans: himself.
Other Futures Than These by midrashic (A Timeline of the Impossible series)
In which Cuba doesn't break them apart, but that doesn't mean that their futures are tied together. (Except that it does.)
A Days of Future Past AU where only one person can defeat the Sentinels and save the future: the man whose imprisonment and torture created them, and Charles Xavier's ex.
The Spaces Between by mainecoon76
Almost a year after Washington, Erik is working on his own to find out what became of the Sentinel research. He keeps to himself and likes it that way. But when a mutant assassin tries to murder Charles, he finds himself reluctantly drawn into an adventure that involves a dangerous plot, Charles' own agenda, a complicated relationship, and holiday celebrations at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
the pain will remind us of each other by borninsideatornado
It’s always felt alien, the way he feels about Erik. Too big for his body, too much to hold in his heart. But finally, finally, it makes sense.
Because at the end of the world, it’s him. It’s always going to be him. —
when logan lets charles see his future in days of future past, he talks to erik instead.
