I've drawn a picture of Chef Taiyee from Illumination's animated film "Migration". I know that his original name is simply "The Chef" but the French Wikipedia has named him as ‘le Chef Taiyee’ even though he wasn't actually heard in the film (the proof: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migration_(film)#Synopsis ).
From now on, I'll always call him ‘Chef Taiyee’ to make fanart searches easier and to avoid people to see drawing which has no connection with the Chef from the movie when they only wanted to see ‘Chef’ fan-art.
Here are the tags I suggest to avoid confusion in your searches (even if you're used to calling him ‘Chef’): #migration2023 #chef_taiyee #chef_taiyee_migration2023 #chef_migration2023
NB: The tattoos are not the same as the tattoos he wears in the movie. I took the tattoos that might look like them.

Last movie review of 2023, Migration!
Okay I think this might be one of the best animated movies of 2023! "Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken" and "Under the Boardwalk" were the two best, and "Migration" and is the third best. These movies were so incredible and well done. I fell in love with the visuals and scenery, and the animation for Migration overall. The characters were definitely a 10/10 though! I mostly loved how Gwen was more than just the cute sidekick, but she was the cute sidekick who was also sassy and a little bit daring too. Her brother (i think his name was Dax?) was an optimistic and daring character too! He was fearless and also a good character too. I really loved how they focused on Pam and Mac as well, and made them good parents but also showed their struggles on protecting the family. Pam was so optimistic, she kind of reminded me Ginger from Chicken Run. She was such an icon! My favorites had to be Pam and Gwen! I also loved Delroy and Uncle Dan! They were so funny! Awkwafina also played a unique character too (she voiced a tough greaser pigeon).
I also would like to talk about the villain's design and personality. He didn't speak, they just had an evil chef who just growled and tried to get the ducks. They didn't show much human interactions in the movie but the only bad human was the chef character. He looked like the a super rich chef guy, with gold on him and stuff (He had white hair with gold bands). I liked his funny face too! Also, the other humans didn't seem to be that bad either, it was one person who wanted to eat the ducks. They weren't portraying all the humans as animal-eating monsters.
Another thing is that the art style and everything looked a little different from Illumination's usual movies, seeing really big eyed cartoony birds that were the main focus. Dreamworks, Illumination, and Aardman are dethroning Disney and I'm all here for it! I hope Ghibli does too when the "Boy and the Heron" dub comes out. I'm just happy that Illumination is going to be known for something other than annoying minions. Also, before you say anything, the short film that was before Migration WAS a Despicable Me one but it focused more on that Vector guy and him getting off the moon, as well as showing the minions as comic relief which was fine (tbh Vector himself is funnier). Seeing that animated short made me think of when Disney used to do stuff like that, and I'm happy that Illumination did that. I mostly just enjoyed Migration and I think it was beautiful!
Last of all, the thing I loved most was probably that salsa dance scene when they played that Beyonce song that goes like, "I'm a survivor" but it was a jazzy version of it and it just blended with the movie so well! Whoever chose that song deserves a raise! Also, that was such a cute scene between Mac and Pam. I love how they showed that adults have flaws once in a while, and focus on the adult ducks as much as the kids. This movie was so so cute!
Into 2024, I'm hoping that I would get to see the movie "Butterfly Tale", which according to my best friend who's in Canada and got to see it (I'm an unfortunate American who missed out). If you have any info about Butterfly Tale, please tell me! The best movies this year I'd say are Butterfly Tale, Ruby Gillman, Migration, and Under the Boardwalk. Tell me YOUR favorite animated movies of 2023! Go on! Don't be afraid to express your opinion in my comments, even if it's different from mine!

Review of Migration (2023)
Hey, Cassipedia, what’re you watching?
Over the weekend, I watched the film Migration. It is an original animated film directed by Benjamin Renner and co-directed by Guylo Homsy and produced by Illumination. When I say original, I do mean it, as it is the first movie I’ve seen in a while that is not an adaption nor based on a pre-existing property.
Do you recommend watching it?
Yes, very much so! This was a surprising experience that I would hate for others to miss out on. The commercials had piqued my interest with the beautiful animation of the flying scenes and the jokes seemed harmless enough. Sometimes I am wary of Illumination films as they can be sometimes a bit too noisy or chaotic, but I’m very glad I saw the movie anyways, as it was surprisingly heartwarming, very cute and stunningly gorgeous (and, contrary to my concerns, it actually uses quiet moments better than most animated films I’ve seen recently!)
What's the story like?
This is a story about the Mallard family, ducks that live a peaceful and simple life in their pond, until a flock of migrating ducks stirs an adventurous itch in everyone except the nervous father, Mack. However, he soon comes around to the idea as he realizes how much an adventure would mean to his family and especially his wife Pam. So they start flying to Jamaica for a vacation. The trailers for the movie spoils the fact that the ducks take a wrong turn and end up in New York City, but the story is less focused on ‘duck shenanigans in an unfamiliar place’ and it instead is more of a road trip with a seamlessly integrated villain. This road trip allows the Mallard family to see different locations and meet different birds, all the while the family grows closer, trusting each other and growing braver in their own ways. There are delightful moments of silliness that are reminiscent of Looney Toons, but the movie takes seriously how much the family loves each other, giving them a reason to grow together as strong and beautifully as the trees they fly over.
What does the movie look like?
Think of how beautiful the sky is. Have you ever been on a plane and looked out at the sloping mountains and pillars of white clouds? Or perhaps, as the sun sets, you look up see how the red sun fades into golden orange blanketed by increasingly purple clouds and the approach of blue night? This movie understands how beautiful the sky is and elevates that feeling, as our bird characters soar and fly through vibrant forests, to a claustrophobic but intriguing water-logged shed, to the shiny and colossal skyscrapers of New York. The settings are gorgeous and the characters themselves are animated masterfully, so each character is incredibly expressive, with the beauty and grace of real-life birds mixed with Muppets-style comedic timing and cartoon stretchiness anchored by being able to carry heavy emotions. This all goes hand-in-hand whenever the birds take flight, as the camera seamlessly follows the birds from take-off to being air born, giving the thrill of a flying rollercoaster. There is such a sense of scale and height, and the world is from the birds’ perspective, with little details that brought me back to the creativity of early Pixar, such as having the father duck blow away a lightning bug nightlight like blowing out a candle, or how the birds will seamlessly alternate between their wings or their feet to gesture. With the movie being from the perspective of the birds, that means none of the human characters talk, being more like creatures existing alongside the bird characters, and this results in a very entertaining and interesting villain in the form of a duck chef with a Yakuza, gang member level of intimidation, whom never utters a word beyond grunts and yells paired with very well-made expressions. To give an idea of how good the animation is, even though the chef has no lines, from simply how he moves, sharpens his knives and looks at the ducks, one can see how, he’s a chef that takes his cooking very seriously, demanding high quality, but, when the ducks start interfering with his business, then he’s all too happy to start seeking revenge. And he is technically only a fun obstacle as the core of the story that this beautiful movie conveys is not about them versus a villain, but instead focused on a family.
How are the actors and actresses?
Every voice perfectly fit their characters, and the animations did excellent in having it where I could feel the characters talking, watching how their beaks formed the words with little flashes of their pointed, bird tongues. The father Mack Mallard was voiced by Kumail Nanjiani and did excellent as an anxious father who could get silly and serious, (and whose manner of speaking fittingly reminded me of a more grounded Daffy Duck). Elizabeth Banks voiced Pam Mallard and delivered as a mother with energy and eagerness paired by a snappy quick wit and a genuineness in each word. One of the cores of this movie is seeing and hearing how Mack and Pam fall back in love with each other over the course of the film, and I believe these voice actors delivered. The rest of the family cannot be overlooked, as Caspar Jennings as Dax Mallard provides a great performance as a courageous young boy who is itching for adventure. Dax is full of bravery but lacks the knowhow on how to protect himself along with others, whereas his father Mack is an excellent survivor but needs to be urged out of his comfort zone to truly become brave. The lesson between them is not simply one is right and the other is wrong, but it is a sharing of perspectives, in which the boy’s bravery inspires the father, and the father’s wisdom equips the boy against their obstacles. I was most concerned of the family member Uncle Dan, voiced by Danny DeVito, as to if he would be an unpleasant tagalong as sometimes happens in these movies, but he quickly established himself as someone who, though he makes quips and seems to lean on his self-interest, he never, ever hesitates to dote on and play with his darling niece, the youngest Mallard, Gwen, who is voiced adorably by Tresi Gazal. Notably, the film makes a point to show that the family already loves one another at the start, but their trip lets them appreciate each other and push their boundaries and discover more of themselves. The other voice talent are more than just recognizable celebrity names and each fit their characters, providing a distinct and colorful cast as one would hope from a road trip type movie. The Herons were my favorites in setting the tone of characters not always being what they seemed in an intriguing way, but each played a role in furthering the family’s journey and usually closed their loop on their own personal journey. The only group of these characters that may feel underexplored are the migrating ducks that inspire the Mallards on their journey in the first place, but I think it is due to the other characters simply having more screentime, as I’ve no doubt these characters would have been just as entertaining as the rest of the cast if they had been given more time.
Is the music worth talking about?
This is not a musical, but the score is absolutely a big part in why the scenery and so many of the moments in this movie sticks out in my mind so vividly. If you listen carefully, you will hear how the music changes depending on the setting. While the Mallards are in the forest, there is an emphasis on using a whimsical choir, adding to the lighthearted feeling, and as they enter the city, unsure of what it even is at first, the music takes on an ethereal, almost dream-like quality that one isn’t quite sure what to make of, until the ducks pass through the smog and nearly run into a steel beam and suddenly you got energetic and chaotic brass instruments banging in as the Mallards are caught in a whirlwind of New York City hustle and bustle. My words really can’t do it justice. And it is worth noting, there is only one distinct instance of a pop song being used in the movie and it is incorporated quite well as a band in a scene plays that song, resulting in a surprisingly beautiful display of ducks engaged in a Salsa dance. The movie is very smart with its music, as it furthers the immersion of seeing this colorful world through these cartoon ducks’ eyes. There are also great moments of quiet and silence, as the movie will also let the atmosphere talk for itself, really letting you sink into it (though it is worth noting that, for the opening of the Universal and Illumination logos, these are the complete opposite and are the noisiest parts of the entire film as the Minion characters from Despicable Me introduce the logos with kazoos. And if you are watching the film in theaters, you may find yourself sitting a surprisingly long time watching a short film based in the Despicable Me universe called ‘Mooned’ but rest assured, you did not walk in on the wrong movie and I very much encourage you not to leave your seat as I overheard many others in the theater seats next to me nearly did.)
Who would like this movie most?
If you are someone that likes birds or the sensation of being high up in the air or on a rollercoaster, I very much urge you to check out this movie. It is also a film that I think would be very enjoyed by those whom are interested in animation and illustration, to see an excellent example of how colors and movement can truly be blended to dazzle in a movie format. The story and characters are well-written and compelling for any age, though I think this movie would be well-received by families, especially as this film strives to show how a family grows closer together. There is a clever, timelessness to the jokes that focus more on the situation on hand and when you have animal characters reflecting on human habits, such as when one of the birds refers to a chef as ‘a predator that hunts prey and serves it to much lazier predators.’ During one of my viewings of the film, I had the pleasure of a family of a broad range from the parents, to their parents to young boys all sitting near me, and it caught my ear that each generation consistently laughed throughout the course of the film.
Where can I watch it?
This film is available in theaters for only a little bit longer at the time of writing this, but I heavily recommend seeing it in theaters at least once. Not only so you can really soak in the colors and the scope of the heights as the birds fly, but also so you can better feel the thrusting of wings as the birds take to the sky and the wind rushes through their feathers. It is an incredible experience. Considering it is an animated movie, it is possible it may re-appear in theaters for kids movie special offers as theaters like the Marcus Theaters sometimes provide. Otherwise, if this review reaches you too late, the film is available for streaming on Peacock for the first four months of being released, then will move to Netflix for the next ten, and then will return to Peacock for the remaining four, so I recommend checking between those streaming services of Peacock and Netflix. Otherwise, it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye out for a physical copy.
Final thoughts?
Migration is a beautiful film that I think can very easily fit in as a classic film, one that focuses on bringing a family together through a fun and colorful adventure. At the very least, it was a pleasure to watch in theaters as a visual rollercoaster, especially for the bird lover in me, and I hope, after its theatrical release that it will make its way into homes as it made its way into my heart. If you’re up for an adventure, then I completely encourage taking the dive.

That afternoon, I went and saw Migration in theatres on it's initial release date today, it's about a family of ducks who migrate from their home before winter to Jamaica, however, they make a stop at the swamp, New York City, a chicken farm, and a hotel until being captured by the Chef, and finally in Jamaica. At the end of film, the following Spring, they end up helping a group of penguins head home to the South Pole. I'm giving this at 10/10 for a great story and plot.
This is the 2nd film this year I saw on it's initial (here in the United States) release date this year on December 22, 2023, after The Super Mario Bros. Movie on it's initial release date. Yes, both films I saw this year on their initial release dates, Keegan-Michael Key doing voiceover roles for both animated theatrical films (in TSMBM he voiced Toad (red cap), in this one, he voiced Delroy and he spoke in a Jamaican accent), and both films take place in New York City (however, they leave after rescuing Delroy from a chef who doesn't speak in the movie, as well as some other humans, aside from the singer, who sang when Mack and Pam were dancing while rescuing Delroy).
Also before the movie, a new Despicable Me short, "Mooned" played, a short that took place after the first movie with Vector in his attempt to get back to Earth, however at the end, he's stuck on Mars, after the alien takes the Minions back to Earth.

September 9, 2023
Love being able to put current on shuffle and just cruise, no skips. I truly do have impeccable taste in music :P
Okay, recap time.
Tuesday was day one. Went in at 9 (way before anyone else, it seems) and chilled in my office (did a pre-class assignment) until class. Class starts. Class was good! Very small, about half grad students, half undergrad. Reviewed syllabus. Left. Signed a card from my lab for advisor's birthday. Went to the department lunch, it was very good. Left lunch early for a mini-party with my lab. As other people left lunch, they joined and it became a slightly bigger mini-party. Was chatting and sipping champagne (it did not taste good but I liked the fizz) up until a buzz in my pocket alerted me that there was ten minutes until my next class started (honestly this was the craziest thing of this week for me). Ran to next class (made it with time to spare). Class was good! Slightly larger, mostly undergrads. Covered some main ideas. Left. Met up with some older grad students for a department orientation of sorts. Meeting was good! Went home, made chef boyardee, slept. (Was mistaken for an undergrad three times on this day.)
Wednesday. One class midday, so I didn't go in nearly as early (that's going to be my class lab day though so it'll become my earliest day next week and onward). Class was good! Much larger, all undergrads. Had lunch with a cohortmate. Did some readings. Went to an open choir rehearsal. Rehearsal was good! Did a bit more researching and saw that the choir might require a bit more time this sem than I'd like to commit, so I'm not going to audition this sem/year. And that's okay (I also researched the mt club and it's not really what I'm looking for either.. while I want to have fun, there is an level of rigor that I appreciate). Cereal for dinner. Went to an online intro to grad school thing through this professional org I'm in. It kinda sucked. I didn't hear anything that I hadn't already heard elsewhere. But. Getting face time with more senior folk in the org is worth it I guess.
Thursday. Class. Ate lunch outside. Class. Worked on readings. Home. Made oven-fried chicken and jerk-spiced pasta with alfredo sauce!! It was a chaotic first time cooking but the result was great (esp for my first time making oven-fried chicken, definitely one for the book)! Enough for four meals plus some excess chicken which I already have plans for. Meals are certainly being prepped!
Friday. Morning meeting. Midday class. Went back to apartment for lunch. Back to department for social hour (talked to some cool people!) followed by departmental migration to multi-department shindig. Excellent food. Migrated with some first years to the grad student involvement fair. It was fair-ly wimpy (ha) but I got a free mug out of it. Back to apartment to put down mug. Back to student center for grad student party. Lots of fun! Met other black women from various departments who seem like a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll see them around. The music was... okay. I don't listen to a lot of pop of my own volition, but this was "old" pop from my middle school years. It just felt a little stale especially since my sister and photo-friend have gotten me into Beyonce's Renaissance this summer. Side note: it's really telling how small the black population here is by the fact that the dj played bollywood music (which was fantastic and really the only fun dance music they played imo) but no other cultural music. Just a very "safe" party. (super side note, I'm really going to have to get used to the fact that the undergraduate experience here is always going to have a bigger production than the graduate student experience (this was evident yesterday when walking next to/through the undergrad party to get to the grad one) but this doesn't mean that I can't sometimes profit from the undergrad experience if I'm in the right place at the right time (I know the reason for the difference, but))
All in all, despite the devastating heat and humidity (I don't have central air, so I'm trying to make do with a box fan), I'm doing okay. Pretty great, actually. This week was just classes, and I'm good at Doing Classes, so that's made the transition a bit easier. I will slowly start to adopt more and more responsibilities as time goes on, I'm sure.
My main gripe is that after two weeks I still don't have a single free tee shirt.
Today I'm thankful that I met all of those girls yesterday. Now I just have to work on building those relationships.

Die zusätzlichen Kontrollen sollen am 16. September beginnen und zunächst einmal sechs Monate andauern. [...]

577,295 student visas were approved last financial year, which helped drive annual overseas migration (for 2023) to a record 518,000 people.
Most of those arriving on student visas are only here to get a job and find a permanent home in Australia. Some enroll in perfunctory courses for unwanted skills to get thru the system, while working multiple gig jobs in an attempt to get a foothold in this country.
Yet with each arrival, no new housing stock is made available, so the price of the remaining housing stock keeps increasing month after month after month.
The result is that many of these new arrivals realise they can't make ends meet. Even after having invested time and thousands of dollars in money up front to get a visa, start school, and make the move - within 6-12 months, they end up packing up and leaving the country. It almost sounds like a money-making scam setup by the Immigration department.
This is what happens when your immigration policies are not aligned with your housing policies.
Australia's immigration policies over the past decade created this mess in the Australian housing market.
Each visa that's handed out is done so in hopes that the person will stay and contribute to Australia yet politicians from both major parties have demonstrated time and again that they have blatant disregard for those immigrants who ultimately can't survive here.
As for those student visas... those are now being refused at record levels over the past 6 months (ending December 2023). Nearly one in five applications for primary and secondary visa holders were knocked as the government seeks to ease migration pressures and stop systemic rorting of the education system.
Compare that to those arriving on temporary visas below.
Immigrants on temporary work visas bounce between short term visas with some staying for a decade or more until they hit a wall.
Even after attempting to upgrade their status while in country, some have to just give up and leave.
"
Over the years, Simon has had several employees willing to sponsor him, however, the visa process requires multiple years of working for the same business.
During that time, many of the businesses have gone belly up.
"I've had so many temporary sponsorships," Simon said.
"Some were lost due to businesses being sold, going bankrupt, or closing down due to COVID."
After many of those setbacks, Simon had to start the costly and time consuming visa application from scratch.
Back in 2022, Simon secured a new sponsor, Mirano's Fuel, where he would work as a consultant chef under an employer nominated visa.
However, after paying $18,000 for a migration agent to file the paperwork, the couple recently found out their application was yet to be lodged, years later.
---
Lastly, at a macro level -
During the pandemic, the Australian economy was actually boosted by stalling population growth, but it was also helped by government payments designed to support households and businesses
It’s no surprise, therefore, that when those payments were withdrawn, and population growth returned at full throttle, real household disposable income per capita declined.
Deloitte Access Economics estimates that households are experiencing a total peak-to-trough fall of almost 9%, measured on a financial year basis. In fact, real household disposable income per capita is expected to remain below the trend seen between the 2008 financial crisis and the pandemic for at least the next five years
Tumblr media
Cutting immigration to 100k or below (in line with the amount of new housing stock being added per year) would deliver a range of immediate and material benefits:
inflation will fall faster
wage growth will stay stronger
interest rates will tumble (once inflation falls in line)
pressure will come off rents and housing
Real household disposable income per capita will boom higher.

Unerlaubte Einreisen 2023: 127.549 (Hellfeld!).

Stoned Movie Review: Migration (2023)
Greetings, Programs! This film was a surprisingly ok "experience", i went in with low expectations. For optimum viewing, I recommend being in a good mood, popcorn is advisable along with your usual order from The Mother Superior. Remember to grab water and your choice of hot or cold beverage from the Nutrimatic Drinks Dispenser (TM). On the Animation Front, camera angles etc - Action setpeices had a nice flow to the viewing experience. - Otherwise, good and enjoyable. Themes and portrayal of such. the initial themes are that of a comfortable, but well trodden life. Suburbial-esq. Further into the "uncomfortable first steps" phase of family vacationing -> semi-new parents with early teen and early/mid childhood younger sibling on their first "go away from home" vacation due to having been indoctrinated into complacency by the Duck Pond Regeime! (paraphrasing since I cant remember the words that were said and im not watching the film again: "Its perfect here, why leave?") Subverting expectations - I 100% went in thinking the initial misunderstanding would follow through with deaths, but the characters start to loosen up after this part - shedding the weary dredge that sucks us into one place, the security of regularity, the normalcy of the every day, routine and in the character's case - having to raise 2 dependant programs into independent programs who themselves can carry on the routine (don't worry, ill touch on it later). - Glad to see a face your fears subplot tackled this early in the film (approx half way), with this small a character list especially. Good stuff, happy to see a subplot usually reserved for the ending climax tied up and then built upon! - Chef-dude, ok but i want more MOVEMENT IN MY VILLAINS PLEASE! Its called Animation, USE ALL OF THE POSES! Better yet, its a perfect place to stick a whole bunch of physical comedy, bipedal meatsuits have lots of joints in them you can use all of them in the realm of animation. Mild evil intent vibes, not as cold hard and ruthless as he could have been considering how his restaurant is a fine dining experience lavished for the well-off on a Salsa Night <- this could just be my perception of what upper middle class is like, but I'll assume this is not a regular thing most of the attendees do since I have no knowledge of the lavish land of the upper middle class under the capitalist system. - I am pleased that the film doesn't close on the characters going home to return to the status quo and thus perpetuate the regime, subverting my expectations and pushing the film into a pro-adventuring sub-messaging with the "lets keep going on this adventure" final note. Showcasing submessaging of "that whilst along the way, there will be hard parts and there will be parts where you push beyond your limits and grow as a person." However on the same point, the film makes use of stereotypical vacation locations, the kind strangers B&B on the first days travel, the city, then the cult i mean the funpark/themepark, then to a holiday destination - which is to be expected, someone somewhere in the media conglomerate's sphere also either has someone running a resort or part-owns or whatever a company who owns some of a holiday destination. + with this being a migration, its to be expected that its a tropical end-destination. And we gotta get our sub-messaging of "for a good vacation, go to a holiday destination" but since it ends on a "whats our next adventure" note this is slightly counteracted. Overall, I give the experience a 2.5 out of 7+1 on the film side and a 4 out of 7+1 on the high and writing out the things that came to mind.

UK immigration and businesses
The Home Secretary unveiled a number of significant measures on Monday, December 4, with the goal of reducing the number of legal migrants to the UK by approximately 300,000. These measures included alterations to the minimum salary threshold for skilled workers, changes to the Shortage Occupation List, adjustments to dependent visas, and a review of the Graduate visa route.
These adjustments, which will go into effect in the spring of 2024, follow a hike in the cost of applying for a visa that was recently announced and an increase in the Immigration Health Surcharge that will start to apply the following month. They signify a significant change in the immigration landscape of the UK and have far-reaching effects on workers, businesses, and the families of British or settled individuals.  We will examine the main adjustments and their possible effects on both individuals and enterprises in this piece. They signify a significant change in the immigration landscape of the UK and have far-reaching effects on workers, businesses, and the families of British or settled individuals.  We will examine the main adjustments and their possible effects on both individuals and enterprises in this piece.
Threshold for the minimum salary of a skilled worker
The primary modification is to the significant rise in the minimum wage requirement for skilled worker visas, which has increased by over 50% to £38,700 annually from £26,200. According to a UK immigration lawyer Dubai, “Health and care workers will not be affected by this rise, but businesses—especially those that depend significantly on sponsoring skilled individuals at lower wages—may find it difficult to cope with this change. Since the rise is higher than the median pay in the UK, it may make it harder to hire people in industries like hospitality, where 95% of sponsored visa applications for jobs like managers and chefs might not be approved under the new level.”
According to our analysis, the increase in the minimum salary threshold will have an effect on 210 out of the 225 occupation codes that are eligible for a skilled worker visa (apart from the health and education occupation codes), as the going rate in these 210 occupation codes is currently less than £38,700 (assuming a 37.5 hour working week).
The analysis done by a UK immigration lawyer Dubai indicates that in order to meet the new minimum, minimum salary for employment that fall under these 210 occupation codes will need to rise by 1% to 47.7%.  Workers whose employment fall under 116 (55%) of the 210 occupation codes that are subject to a raised general wage threshold will be required to receive a minimum pay that is at least 47.7% more than what is now the case.
The new arrangements will put pressure on employers to increase the working hours of sponsored workers, either as an alternative to paying higher salaries or to offset some of the additional cost, since the going rate is based on a 37.5 hour working week and must be pro-rated based on the weekly working hours stated on the certificate of sponsorship (CoS).
Nevertheless, as the Migration Observatory has noted, it is also true that a small percentage of applicants are affected by the higher £38,700 threshold for long-term skilled work visas. More specifically, care workers and senior care workers received around half of the 208,000 Skilled Worker visas awarded to main applicants in the year ending in September 2023. Interestingly, the pay rise does not apply to these categories. A further 20% of visas were granted to workers in the education or health fields, and these workers are not impacted by the new rule because their compensation is set according to nationally recognised pay scales.

Bauwirtschaft fordert Wohnungsbau
Tumblr media
