Texas authorities on May 25 captured an international fugitive wanted for murder.
Splendora police, in coordination with federal authorities, apprehended 21-year-old Leo Acosta Sanchez, who had been illegally residing in the "state and country," the Splendora Police Department said in a press release.
Sanchez "was known to travel between" Splendora and "her residence in Terrenos," a residential community advertising cheap land for sale outside Houston.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News Digital that Sanchez is originally from Mexico.
"Acosta entered the United States as a nonimmigrant on Aug. 20, 2023, and violated the terms of her admission," ICE said. "She remains in ICE custody pending disposition of her immigration proceedings."
"Vigilant" officers caught up with Sanchez during a "routine patrol," when they "identified the wanted individual behind the wheel of a vehicle and promptly called for backup."
"Following the arrival of additional units, a traffic stop was conducted, leading to the immediate arrest of the driver, identified as Leo Acosta Sanchez," the Splendora PD said in a press release.
Local police worked with the Department of Homeland Security to take Sanchez into custody. She faces charges for her alleged crimes committed outside the United States.

Octopus Energy has surged to the top of the U.K. electricity market with its plucky brand of clean, flexible, customer-centric energy. Now it’s loading up on new investment to make a broader push into North America.
The sprawling clean energy startup pulled in two new investments in recent weeks. On May 7, it announced a re-up from existing investors, including Al Gore’s Generation Investment Management and the Canada Pension Plan. Last week, it added a new round from the $1 billion Innovation and Expansion Fund at Tom Steyer’s Galvanize Climate Solutions. The parties did not disclose the size of the new infusions but said that they lift Octopus’ private valuation to $9 billion. Previously, Octopus raised an $800 million round��in December, putting its valuation at $7.8 billion. Thus, eight-year-old Octopus enters the summer of 2024 as one of the most valuable privately held startups in the world, but one whose impact is felt far more in Europe than in the U.S. The new influx of cash will help fund expansion in North America, both by growing its retail foothold in Texas and by ramping up sales of the company’s marquee Kraken software to other utilities. The company has its work cut out if it wants to reproduce its U.K. market dominance across the pond.
“It is a Cambrian explosion of exciting growth in almost every direction,” Octopus Energy U.S. CEO Michael Lee told Canary Media last week.
In the U.K., Octopus has gobbled its way up the leaderboard of electricity retailers, consuming competitors large and small until it reached the No. 1 slot this year. It supplies British customers in part with clean power from a multibillion-dollar portfolio of renewables plants that it owns. The company lowers costs to customers by using smart devices or behavioral nudges to shift their usage to times when the renewables are producing the most cheap electricity. Octopus also began making its own heat pumps, to help households break out of dependence on fossil gas at a volatile time.
In the U.S., land of free markets and capitalist competition, market design largely blocks Octopus from rolling out its innovations, and instead protects the monopoly power of century-old incumbent utilities. There is no national electricity market to take over, but a state-by-state hodgepodge of fiefdoms that obey differing rules. So Octopus made its first stand in Texas, whose competitive power market most closely resembles the U.K.’s system. It now sources power for tens of thousands of retail customers in the state.
“It is absolutely clear to me that the energy transition is happening first in Texas,” Lee said. “This is a fantastic market to be in if you know how to work with customers and help them be a central focus in providing that energy transition to the grid.”
Such an assertion might have elicited derisive snorts from Californians or New Yorkers a few years ago, but facts on the ground now support Lee’s thesis.

Jackpot
‘Gotta win big, gotta win big, gotta win big.’ Jasmine thought to herself as the wheel on the roulette table spun.
Her forehead was sweating profusely, creating a noticeable sheen that reflected off her caramel skin and leaving stains on her cheap, checkerboard leisure suit. The gold finish on her cheap, fake jewelry was smudging against her wrists and phalanges. Jasmine pulled on her collar, her heart racing as her eyes refused to leave the rapid spin of the roulette ball.
She had spent all day gambling at every joint in vegas. She played blackjack, Texas hold’em, slot machines, darts, anything it took to get all that money. She needed the money badly. She wasn’t in debt, but the woman she loved was. Jasmine had a big crush on this Mormon girl, she had come into town and lost all of her savings. Vegas is a city of sink or swim and she sank.
When the mob got a hold of Jane, the Mormon girl, they weren't too pleased that she didn’t have the money. So, they gave her two options; either go on a permanent scuba trip to lake mead, or get all dolled up and escort some “esteemed guests” to their hotel rooms. Jane chose the latter.
Jasmine had seen Jane the previous week, all naive and wide eyed and ready to take on the world. Just one glance at how Jane looked this morning was all Jasmine needed to get the full story. She saw Jane’s thousand eye stare and immediately realized what had happened and knew she just had to save her.
That’s why she spent all day doing this, why she’s taking a big bet at the roulette table to double-or-nothing her earnings.That’s why she needs to win big.
As the ever spinning ball of the roulette table finally came to a close, it landed on red 23, Jasmine’s number.
Jasmine screeched in celebration at her win, practically jumping in the air as she dramatically swung her fist in the air. “OH HELL YEAH!” she roared, the jitters of watching the ball all this time finally leaving her system.
She cashed in all of her chips, her high stakes winnings coming in a silver briefcase as courtesy of the casino.
She saw the mob boss, Don Dom Gallo, over by the poker table. Jasmine fiercely gripped the silver handle, her legs stomping across the busy room of waiters, dealers and either excited or stressed gamblers.
Don Dom Gallo was a highly respected man in the Las Vegas strip. Perhaps more feared than respected, but he wasn’t the kind of guy that people felt safe getting near. Yet Jasmine stormed right up to him and shoved the briefcase into his chest.
Jasmine let out a big huff and puff as she stared daggers at the mobster. “I got the money. You better let her go, now!”
“Hey Hey, what’s the big idea over here?” Gallo asked, his sarcastic tone and beady eyes made it clear, he wanted to know who this woman thought she was to do that to him. He wore a tight black suit and slicked back hair, looking like a real jackass, but it never mattered what he looked like, because he had the money to do something about it if someone said something he didn’t like.
“You know what the big idea is. We spoke about this this morning. I want to buy Jane’s contract.” She said with a stern tone.
“Forget it, she’s not for sale.” He said, trying to brush her off.
“Fucking excuse me!” Jasmine barked.
“I said, she’s not for sale.” Gallo repeated. “I changed my mind. It happens sometimes.”
“I am not leaving here without her.”
Gallo rolled his eyes and shrugged, “Fine…” He then snapped his fingers and Jane quickly arrived. The girl who looked rather plain last week was now in a sparkly black dress with a thick coat of makeup plastered all over her face.
“Yes?” Jane asked.
Gallo pointed over to Jasmine, “She’s your boss now. Go with her and make sure she gets home safe.”
Jane looked at Jasmine and then looked back to the Dom, before finally grabbing Jasmine’s hand, running out the casino doors and jumping into her convertible together.
As Jasmine drove and drove outside the city limits, she had a big smile on her face, happy to have beaten the mob.
But Jane looked uncomfortable, telling her, “Hey, park the car. My kidneys feel like they’re about to explode.”
Jasmine noded, parking her car at the side of the road, surrounded by miles and miles of dirt in all directions.
As Jane walked behind a rock and kneeled to do her business, she took out a tiny pistol that was hidden between her breasts and shot Jasmine right in the throat.
Unable to speak, Jasmine held her hand against her neck, trying to keep the blood from pouring out of her.
Jane walked closer, pointing the gun at the gambler. “I don’t know what sort of perverted sex fantasies you had in that twisted mind of yours, but there’s no way I’d go over to be your slave or lover or whatever the hell you expected. You’re a stranger, a nobody! At least with The Don, I have somebody looking out for me. I get to move up in the world, not live in lord knows what hell hole with a loser like you.”
The ungrateful brat kicked sand into Jasmine’s eyes as she watched the gamble slowly die from internal bleeding.

The US House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture passed the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2024 (Farm Bill) 33-21 on May 24. Explaining why the move is a "big win" for the US, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson told the Daily Mail that the proposed legislation would help prevent "Communist China" from grabbing American land.
"Communist China shouldn't be allowed to buy another acre of American farmland, nor should we rely upon our top foreign adversary for key parts of our food supply chain," Hinson told the media outlet.
In reality, Chinese private investors and firms possessed less than 1 percent (or 349,442 acres) of all foreign-held agricultural land in the US as of December 31, 2022, according to the Farm Service Agency of the United States Department of Agriculture.
The Chinese possessions are spread across the US, including in Texas (162,167 acres); North Carolina (44,776 acres); Missouri (43,071 acres); Utah (32,447 acres); and Virginia (14,382 acres).

The remaining 17.1 million acres are held by various smaller international landowners, including China.
All in all, foreign investors held a stake in over 43.4 million acres or around 3.1 percent of all US agricultural land.
There is nothing particularly new about acquiring foreign farmland. American investors routinely buy land and real estate abroad, for example. US and European companies are planning to acquire Ukrainian arable lands once hostilities are over, given that the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land in the country was lifted on July 1, 2021.
The act was passed in March 2020 and stipulated that in 2022 only natural persons would be authorized to buy land. However, starting from July 2023, corporate entities would also be allowed to buy up to 10,000 ha (24,710 acres) of land each, while foreigners would be granted the right to buy Ukrainian land only after a referendum concerning the issue.
Remarkably, the Oakland Institute – a California-based progressive think tank – revealed on February 21, 2023, that over 28 percent of Ukraine’s arable land is already in the possession of European and North American entities or Ukrainian oligarchs. The report was fiercely criticized by the Western mainstream press.
However, in April this year, Polish President Andrzej Duda appeared to confirm the think tank's findings by telling the Lithuanian press that "industrial agriculture (…) is not really run by Ukrainians; it is run by big companies from Western Europe, from the USA. If we look today at the owners of most of the land, they are not Ukrainian companies."
The trend appears to be deep-rooted. In July 2009, Der Spiegel shed light on "modern colonialism" exercised by big American and European investors who massively bought up cheap land in crisis-ridden countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
'Espionage' Accusations
While some US lawmakers and think tanks admit that China's land holdings in the US are quite modest, they accuse the Chinese of using their land to spy on the US military on behalf of Beijing. No evidence has been provided to back up the allegations, however.
The only case circulated by the Western media concerns China-based food producer, Fufeng Group, which acquired 300 acres of land 16 miles away from the Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. No proof of Fufeng Group's apparent "espionage" has been presented so far.
The Heritage Foundation, a US conservative think tank, even went so far as to claim that any Chinese real estate purchases or mere leases deserve suspicion.
"Chinese ownership of any real estate may be a concern if it is near critical infrastructure, whether or not it is agricultural land," claimed the think tank. "Adding further complexity, national security concerns may be present even in non-ownership interests in real estate – for example, if a Chinese tech company leases office space across the street from the Pentagon or acquires an easement to build wind turbines near a military base."
US lawmakers and think tanks' fight against "Communist China" resembles nothing so much as a McCarthy-style crusade over a "Red Scare". The ongoing speculations about China's "land grab" coincided with the overall deterioration of US-Chinese relations. With 20 year amortization an 800 sqft prefab house (finished not furnished) should have a cost about $250/month (cost is about $60k)
I will base the numbers of this but I can do 1600sqft prefab/modular for $108k
That may sound insane but I was looking at building a bunch of tiny houses on some specially zoned property thats for sale and thats what it come out to.
If you have to borrow money it becomes $500/month
Some of the units might not get filled or people won’t pay so say 90% usage/pay rate
Management fees are potentially $50/month
So $600/month for new 800 sqft units
And thats with a loan and some profit right?
Well there is also land. The land I looked at would be $35/month over 20 years
So $635/month for cost sans utilities, make renters get insurance plus I get insurance at $30/month (nice basic insurance but they would pay out)
I add some profit and lawn care
Call it $800/month and I make $100
There is no reason rents cannot be $1/sqft even if you are paying the landlords mortgage
This shit is insane when you actually look at doing yourself
Also big apartment complexes often (not always) get land grants and tax incentives
Oh and while I would have to keep them “affordable” for 30 years with how cheap that is I would qualify for a 10 year tax break that would actually incentivize charging a bit more just to capitalize on the max tax break. Plus its easier to charge more then they are new anyway. So $1000 for the first 10 years and if costs have gone up keep it at $1000

Thus, although Sonoma and Napa counties are still home to some of the best wines in the country, they can move over when competing for desirable property to own land and grow grapes compared to Luna County’s affordability.
Valencia County, in New Mexico, is home to lush mountain views combined with the heart of the valley. This county is located just south of Albuquerque, it includes the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail, the Cibola National Forest, and the Manzano Wilderness. It is also home to the Facebook Data Center, so if the views and nature don’t amaze you, maybe the job market will.
Colorado-
Costilla county is not only desirable but unusual. It is home to many mountains, including the Rocky Mountain range, but also alligators and aliens. At the Colorado Gators Reptile Park, you can touch a gator. This park was opened in the 1970s and serves as a rescue center for many creatures. The San Luis Valley has also had its share of the otherworldly, as many unidentified flying crafts have been spotted there; and for a better review of spacecraft, just visit the UFO watchtower located within the county.
Texas-
There are three very inexpensive counties located in the large state of Texas, and Hudspeth is one of them. If you enjoy researching or observing ancient styles of agriculture, pictography, and artifacts, then this area may interest you. Hudspeth was home to the Prehistoric Jornada Mogollon people who resided in the Rio Grande floodplain and left behind a ton of evidence of their prior existence here. Also, if you are looking for mountains, fresh air, and isolation, this place will fit those needs.
Brewster County, just like Hudspeth, finds its home in western Texas. Also similar to Hudspeth, this is an area with a lot of lands and a low population of people. This area is home to not only ancient cultures and raider history but holds a portion of the Chihuahuan Desert landscapes.
Lastly, there is Presidio County, one of the larger counties in the huge state of Texas. This county is well known for farmland and this area has been cultivated since 1200 A.D. This area offers scenic drives across the Rio Grande, Big Bend Ranch state park, and Cibolo Creek Ranch area.

With retirement, it should be obvious by earlier mentioned facts that Arizona and New Mexico would be among the very top places to reside. Arizona holds the number one placement for weather and ranks number seven on the best places to retire in according to Bankrate’s article The Best and Worst States to Retire in 2021. Yet, New Mexico ranks seventh in regards to weather and twentieth for retirees, but also tenth in affordability, which is not bad at all!
When it comes to investing, speaking of New Mexico, not only is the land affordable and the climate more ideal but according to Amy Bell of Investopedia, in her article, The Top 5 States for Retirees to Buy Cheap Property; New Mexico’s economy is on the rise along with the population. As such, although there is no guarantee that land will grow in value, this notion does strengthen the argument that there is a strong chance that it might. Speaking from personal experience as a professional investor and selling land in Luna county since 2018, I have seen a huge increase in the cost of raw land within this county.
Arizona is a great state to look into if you are wishing to invest. Arizona has had a stable economy and a good job market for quite some time. Since Arizona has a ton of land, there are openings to lend that land to many farmers, which could make a great profit. Or, just hold onto it and the value may start to grow!
According to Martinez Ranch Management and Real Estate, other great states to invest in are California and Utah. California is due to the rising costs to reside within the state and paired with its beauty. Utah is not only an affordable place to own property and is sought after for those who are willing to owner-finance land to those who can’t afford to purchase it outright.

Car Manufacturers as the Inverse Incel Meme
Let me explain:
In Quebec, or most of Eastern Canada, most Japanese brands could be considered as the "Beta" type, but with a twist.
They're bland, unremarkable, uninventive as far as their design language is concerned - they're sedans and SUVs. They blend in everywhere and are noticed by no-one in particular. They're the automotive equivalent of wallflowers. The catch is that they're fucking reliable.
They won't break down in our apocalyptic winters, they shrug off rain and sleet, they don't give a shit if they're taken in the most pothole-ridden corner of Quebec - if you have a Honda, a Mazda or a Nissan dating from a few years back, that shit's gonna run until your children's great-grandchildren are sent off to preserve the human race in a Martian colony. It might even witness their death and live to bury them, actually. Small, dinky Japanese sedans are unkillable.
On the other hand, you've got the Gigachad brands, usually off-brand Japanese and German concepts with fancy-pants design language and a price tag that's more ostentatious and desperate than seeing last year's Calvin Klein haul in Costco. We're talking Lexus, Acura, Audi, Land Rover and the like. Drive up to their dealerships and they'll pull out the big fucking guns to greet you: Classical music, champagne, maybe even an actually decent selection of Nespresso single-cup brewer pods, and their sales rep take their sweet time making sure you sink in the lap of luxury before so much as quoting a figure.
Here's the thing: I've noticed that as far as the chip shortage is concerned, the economy brands are faring better with reduced profits, and aren't yet trying to massively undercut themselves for the sake of having some sort of deal on offer. The deals aren't great, but they're honest, and about on-par with what you're getting: 500 smackaroonis in rebates, an APR of about 0.2%, and a limited selection that they're not shy about presenting as such. Fuck, one of my openers for a Hyundai event exactingly stressed the need for patience if some 2021 models were ordered. We're told not to push too hard, and to just - humbly present an offer. That's it.
Compare and contrast with the "baller" manufacturers: they reel you in with what the kids probably call Gucci treatment, drop breadcrumbs in front of your feet and then fall on their knees and dramatically wail. Ratioed for the price of an Audi Q5 in the entry-level selection, we're talking a single measly thousand bucks off. Considering what you're forced to pay for it, it's more than a little insulting for the average consumer.
"It's the best deal you'll get this season!" they crow, even as the leaves have just started to turn. "Your car's in ridiculously high demand, we'll pay good money for it!"
Sure, they will - and then neglect to mention how they won't listen to any requests to keep the same monthlies. They'll cringe and moan and go Nnnnyyyeeeaaah, about those payments... and then state they absolutely need to be increased to "lighten the load" on the long term.
In my experience, if you buy an Audi or a Lexus anywhere near the East Coast, you're committing financial suicide. I mean, unless dropping by the garage for busted brake pads and frayed timing belts that can't last a single winter is your idea of fun.
It affects the sales reps, too. The Japanese companies' reps and entry-level Americans and Germans are super friendly, even in situations where one or two specific dealerships' performance can make or break certain quarterly projections. Even with the entire fucking world losing its marbles over onboard computers being crazy hard to produce, consoles being near-on-impossible to come by, or other electronic components being hard to source, all you'll get is smiles and nods. They understand we're all doing our best, and that chip scarcity depends on one of several potentials: the end of the strikes with mine workers, the consumer-friendly advent of an alternative to common silicon and the stability of the affected regions.
Again, compare and contrast with the brands that spend so much time flexing: the reps call us - and sometimes call me - several times per day, most of them sounding like Leia recording her message for Obi-Wan. These douchers are obsessed with sales metrics, even in a context where even Texas Fucking Instruments has trouble manufacturing scientific calculators as a result of that shortage!
So, yeah. Your dinky brands? They're basically the meme's Beta male, except he's self-confident, natural, empathetic and well-balanced. Straight spine, relaxed gait, eyes set out in front - but not with too much emphasis. The luxury brands are the meme's Chad, except Chad's shoulders are sloping, his hands are stuck in his pockets, obsessively clutching his formerly-bulging wallet, and he scans the horizon line with the look of a wounded animal that's expecting a killing blow to come from anywhere.
Go cheap. Go Korean or Japanese. They've heard the message, as far was global warming's concerned. The other ones? They're mad scrambling, only now realizing that several gas-powered 2022 lineups and 2023 prototypes probably need complete revisions. The future's resolutely hybrid, if it isn't full-on electric. Someone needs to undercut Tesla and to produce a car that has the stamina of a gas-guzzler and the energy footprint of a Bougie, subsidies-only electric vehicle.

Harry Dean Stanton with the Cheap Dates- October 1993 (Omnivore)
I was always a fan of Harry Dean Stanton’s movies from the time I first saw him in Paris, Texas and Repo Man (and other ones). I’d always heard that he dabbled in music as well but had only heard bits and pieces until now. This 9-song record (wish there were a lot more songs than just 9 but hey, a small quibble) features 4 studio cuts and then five live cuts recorded at the Troubadour in Hollywood. It’s real honky tonk affair and Stanton has a terrific, weathered voice and is joined by an all-star cast including Slim Jim Phantom on drums, Jeff ‘Skunk” Baxter on pedal steel, Tony Sales on bass and Stanton’s musical foil, Jamie Jameson, guitar (and plenty of other instruments). Of the studio stuff he opens with a cool version of Dylan’s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” and then jumps right into a revved up version of Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land.” Of the live cuts they nail another Chuck Berry tune, this time “Never Can Tell” and then do lovely justice with a swaying version to the Spector/Stoller classic “Spanish Harlem,” There’s honestly not a bum track in the bunch here and I really wish I would’ve caught a Stanton and Friends gig when I had the chance. This is as close as I’ll get and it’s pretty damn satisfying. www.omnivorerecordings.com
