More on pre-electricity lighting.
Interesting to see this one pop up again after nearly two years - courtesy of @dduane, too! :->
*****
After experiencing a couple more storm-related power cuts since my original post, as well as a couple of after-dark garden BBQs, I've come to the conclusion that C.J. Cherryh puts far too much emphasis on "how dark things were pre-electric light".
For one thing eyes adjust, dilating in dim light to gather whatever illumination is available. Okay, if there's none, there's none - but if there's some, human eyes can make use of it, some better or just faster than others. They're the ones with "good night vision".
Think, for instance, of how little you can see of your unlit bedroom just after you've turned off the lights, and how much more of it you can see if you wake up a couple of hours later.
There's also that business of feeling your way around, risking breaking your neck etc. People get used to their surroundings and, after a while, can feel their way around a familiar location even in total darkness with a fair amount of confidence.
Problems arise when Things Aren't Where They Should Be (or when New Things Arrive) and is when most trips, stumbles, hacked shins and stubbed toes happen, but usually - Lego bricks and upturned UK plugs aside - non-light domestic navigation is incident-free.
*****
Here are a couple of pics from one of those BBQs: one candle and a firepit early on, then the candle, firepit and an oil lamp much later, all much more obvious than DD's iPad screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though I remain surprised at how well my phonecam was handling this low light, my own unassisted eyes were doing far better. For instance, that area between the table and the firepit wasn't such an impenetrable pool of darkness as it appears in the photo.
I see (hah!) no reason why those same Accustomed Eyes would have any more difficulty with candles or oil lamps as interior lighting, even without the mirrors or reflectors in my previous post.
With those, and with white interior walls, things would be even brighter. There's a reason why so many reconstructed period buildings in Folk Museums etc. are (authentically) whitewashed not just outside but inside as well. It was cheap, had disinfectant qualities, and was a reflective surface. Win, win and win.
*****
All right, there were no switches to turn on a light. But there was no need for what C.J. describes as stumbling about to reach the fire, because there were tinderboxes and, for many centuries before them, flint and steel. Since "firesteels" have been heraldic charges since the 1100s, the actual tool must have been in use for even longer.
Tinderboxes were fire-starter sets with flint, steel and "tinder" all packed into (surprise!) a box. The tinder was easily lit ignition material, often "charcloth", fabric baked in an airtight jar or tin which would now start to glow just from a spark.
They're mentioned in both "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". Oddly enough, "Hobbit" mentions matches in a couple of places, but I suspect that's a carry-over from when it was just a children's story, not part of the main Legendarium.
Tinderboxes could be simple, just a basic flint-and-steel kit with some tinder for the sparks to fall on...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...or elaborate like this one, with a fancy striker, charcloth, kindling material and even wooden "spills" (long splinters) to transfer flame to a candle or the kindling...
Tumblr media
This tinderbox even doubles as a candlestick, complete with a snuffer which would have been inside along with everything else.
Tumblr media
Here's a close-up of the striker box with its inner and outer lids open:
Tumblr media
What looks like a short pencil with an eraser is actually the striker. A bit of tinder or charcloth would have been pulled through that small hole in the outer lid, which was then closed.
There was a rough steel surface on the lid, and the striker was scraped along it, like so:
Tumblr media
This was done for a TV show or film, so the tinder was probably made more flammable with, possibly, lighter fuel. That would be thoroughly appropriate, since a Zippo or similar lighter works on exactly the same principle.
A real-life version of any tinderbox would usually just produce glowing embers needing blown on to make a flame, which is shown sometimes in movies - especially as a will-it-light-or-won't-it? tension build - but is usually a bit slow and non-visual for screen work.
*****
There were even flintlock tinderboxes which worked with the same mechanism as those on firearms. Here's a pocket version:
Tumblr media
Here are a couple of bedside versions, once again complete with a candlestick:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here are three (for home defence?) with a spotlight candle lantern on one side and a double-trigger pistol on the other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pull one trigger to light the candle, pull the other trigger to fire the gun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What could possibly go wrong? :-P
*****
Those pistol lanterns, magnified by lenses, weren't just to let their owner see what they were shooting at: they would also have dazzled whatever miscreant was sneaking around in the dark, irises dilated to make best use of available glimmer.
Swordsmen both good and bad knew this trick too, and various fight manuals taught how to manage a thumb-shuttered lamp encountered suddenly in a dark alley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a sword-and-lantern combat in the 1973 "Three Musketeers" between Michael York (D'Artagnan) and Christopher Lee (Rochefort), which was a great idea.
Unfortunately it failed in execution because the "Hollywood Darkness" which let viewers see the action, wasn't dark enough to emphasise the hazards / advantages of snapping the lamps open and shut.
This TV screencap (can't get a better one, the DVD won't run in a computer drive) shows what I mean.
Tumblr media
In fact, like the photos of the BBQ, this image - and entire fight - looks even brighter through "real eyes" than with the phonecam. Just as there can be too much dark in a night scene, there can also be too much light.
*****
One last thing I found when assembling pics for the post were Folding Candle-lanterns.
They were used from about the mid-1700s to the later 20th century (Swiss Army ca. 1978) as travel accessories and emergency equipment, and IMO - I've Made A Note - they'd fit right into a fantasy world whose tech level was able to make them.
Tumblr media
The first and last are reproductions: this one is real, from about 1830.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The clear part was mica - a transparent mineral which can be split into thin flexible sheets - while others use horn / parchment, though both of these are translucent rather than transparent. Regardless, all were far less likely to break than glass.
One or two inner surfaces were usually tin, giving the lantern its own built-in reflector, and tech-level-wise, tin as a shiny or decorative finish has been used since Roman times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure that top-of-the-line models could also have been finished with their own matching, maybe even built-in, tinderboxes.
And if real ones didn't, fictional ones certainly could. :->

I have a question about IRL merch — did their clothing used to be better quality and it has gotten worse, or is it just the calendars that were worse this year? I ask bc I just got a shirt and sweatshirt from another content creator for the Same Price as dnp merch and the difference between them is crazy. Like I don’t think the dnp clothing feels cheap or whatever but the other merch just has a much thicker fabric and the sweatshirt is much softer on the inside. I don’t buy a lot of content creator merch in general so I’m not sure which of these is the norm for clothing quality!
(everything i have pre-crafts merch is UK manufactured and shipped)
i'd say it got worse overall. i am biased, though. they switch from one t-shirt company to another all the time, the same with longsleeves and hoodies. sometimes the material quality is good, sometimes it's sooo thin 🥲
the printing quality is inconsistent now, but idk how it was before 2022, not because i don't have older merch (i do), but because i haven't asked anyone and weren't paying much attention back then.
i also wanna point out that sometime around WAD (could be earlier) they stopped making their own branded labels*. Dan's "don't talk to me" longsleeve has DH label, but then... WAD doesn't (which can be understandable; the marble ii shirt also doesn't, but ii longsleeve does have printed D&P "label"), and all merch after their comeback has the original label of the company where they bought it. it's not about quality, i understand that, i just wanted to point out that they stopped making their merch more unique (i guess, i could call it that). i get that it's cheaper for them to not touch labels, but like, some old merch is just... cute. the new one? basic. for the same price!
*WAD leather jacket has a customized label - the only item. but the jacket itself was custom-made, i guess, so i'm not surprised.
i remember when dnp were selling candles, the shipping wasn't organised well enough and i knew people who got their candles broken. and someone told me that there was a problem with Phil's hot chocolate at the customs in one of Latam countries. dare i say, it wasn't handled correctly by IRL Merch (no chocolate, no refund in the end). all of that was pre-WAD. again, not the merch quality, per se, sorry.

Designing A Traditionalist Commune
Inspired by chatting with @tradgirllife and @unprofessionalcat about this kind of thing and wanting to share my plans; this is going to be one long post.
Village Layout
Throughout, I will be presupposing a commune of c.100 families adding up to c.500 people. Also, because UK and US English sometimes use the same name for different plants and vice versa, all plants will also come with scientific names. Additionally, this is calibrated to the climate and ecology of Britain; adjust for where you live.
At the centre of the village is the church, which will also double as the meeting place for the village (this will be important later). It sits at the centre of 1000 acres of communally-held sheep pasture planted with clover, (trifolium pratense) dandelions (taraxacum officinale), yarrow (achillea millefolium) and maize (zea mays; this one is useful if the potato crop fails), with this same space including various other facilities - a printing shop, a blacksmith's, a stream for water and a glassworks. The dead are also buried here, with small, subtle gravestones.
Ringing that are houses (design will be discussed soon), each with an acre of land containing potatoes (peel helps feed chickens and a very dense, low-effort-to-prepare carbohydrate source), sweetcorn, beans and squash (the sweetcorn forms a trellis for the beans, the beans fix nitrogen for the sweetcorn and the squash helps both retain moisture) and carrots and onions (carrots ward off onion flies and onions ward off carrot flies), and a fruit grove with chickens (the trees provide the chickens with interesting insects to eat and that in turn keeps the trees pest-free). As for area, 4000 square feet (doubled to 8000 for paths and storage) will feed a single person on a vegetarian diet for a year. There are 43,650 square feet in an acre. 8000X5 = 40,000 for vegetables, with the remaining 3650 square feet being used for chickens and fruit.
Ringing that, in turn, is a forest of Himalayan birch (betula utilis) for firewood and writing material, Sitka spruce (picea sitchensis) for timber and resin/glue and white willow (salix alba) for baskets, painkiller and tannin (for leather-making) production with ponds containing tench (tinca tinca) and mallards (anas platyrhynchos) for meat and eggs (in addition, ground fish bones can be added to chicken feed). Ground shrubs will be similar to those in the sheep field.
House Design
Houses will be built out of straw bales, with a foundation of stones (to prevent damp seeping in), a coating of limewash (to add resistance to fire and water) and wooden cladding (to stop rain; Britain is very wet. Feel free to leave this out in a dry area). Straw bale building is cheap and (if you tie the bales tightly) very warm and surprisingly fire-resistant. However, I envision repairs and new houses leading to a gradual replacement with timber buildings. Rooves consist of a timber frame upon which is placed soil in which to grow herbs for consumption (for the UK I'm thinking oregano, yarrow, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme). This will necessitate strong rooves with gentle slopes, but will be doable, and will increase cultivation space and take advantage of the UK's fairly high rainfall.
Inside, the centre of the house is a wood-burning stove over which the cooking is done. Surrounding that are chairs which people sit on to consume meals, with wooden bookcases (books are printed on birch bark, with charcoal-based ink, wool string and spruce resin for binding and a leather cover) and assorted ornaments. I'm a man, ornamenting houses isn't my thing - women and girls reading this, provide your ideas. Windows are fairly small due to local production limitations, and so there are quite a few of them. In winter, the house is lit with candles made from beeswax or tallow (so we'll want a few beekeepers) and reeds (from around the ponds), made by one of these processes.
To the side are bedrooms. These are fairly unadorned, consisting of a wooden bed, a mattress made from wool and/or feathers, a blanket and pillow of the same and some personal possessions. Also there should be a spinning wheel for the woman of the house to use.
To the back and just outside is the compost toilet. It consists of a wooden shack over a chamber for excreta and another chamber for composting. A bit of guttering funnels urine outside into a barrel of straw (also for composting). Washing is done in a metal tub, with soap made of animal fat or vegetable oil and wood ash.
Clothing
Clothes are made of wool, dyed with nettles (urtica dioica) for grey-green, dandelions for pale yellow, and whatever else is locally available. In addition, natural sheep colours give a range of white, grey, brown and black. Shoes will be made of sheepskin, and some people taking up shoemaking will thus be much appreciated.
In terms of clothing, I'm not particular about styles. I imagine that men will dress something like this and women something like this, but I am very much not particular. I'm a man.
Diet
As composed from the ingredients above, mostly potatoes accompanying vegetable stews of a considerable range. Some treats, such as pancakes, cider and meat, but mostly fairly plain.
Political System
The village is governed by two bodies - the magistrates and the assembly.
The magistrates consist of three randomly-selected adult citizens, with the proviso that they cannot have committed a crime in the last three years and they cannot serve consecutive terms. They meet weekly to judge crimes and set the agenda for the assembly.
The assembly consists of all adults of the community, meeting monthly to vote on proposed laws and actions and vote on applicants for citizenship. The citizenship can vote to modify proposed laws.
Due to the lack of state apparatus, crimes are punished by fines (for minor crimes, especially property crimes), exile (for major crimes - those who are exiled have their crimes, date of exile and sentence length tattooed on their non-dominant hands) or execution (for serious crimes, although this needs to be put up to the assembly and only violent or sexual crimes can be capital).
Note to say if you like this and/or would like to live here, reblog with any comments, questions or criticisms you have.

Ring in the New Year Gala || December 31, 2023 - January 1, 2024
What better way to ring in the New Year than with drinking around the world? No, I don't mean to get on my private jet and just go - it wouldn't fit all of Paris. But, I have the funds to bring the rest of the world to Paris.
You're welcome,
Heather du Pont-Moreau
When/where does this event take place in game?
The gala will be held on December 31, 2023. This event takes place at the du Pont-Moreau Residence, which is located in West Paris.
How long do we have to write?
Threads can begin on Sunday, January 6th @ 12:00 AM EST and must be wrapped up by Sunday January 13th @ 11:59 PM EST.
What else do we need to know?
Aside from every other detail in this post, it should be noted our first interest check will still occur on Sunday. You are not required to participate and you will not need to pause your regular threads; but we ask that any threads related to the event are tagged clearly either using a personalized tag or as #paris.event:001. We ask that any starters specifically for this event are also tagged as #paris.event:001 in addition to being tagged as #paris.starter.
This event will include a decent set of drinking games from around the world hosted by friends of Heather's from abroad, live entertainment, and fine cuisine. Some examples can be found below; but please feel free to use your imagination or even suggest some that we could add to this post.
Games & Activities
Goon of Fortune (AUS); Loosely based upon Wheel of Fortune, this is yet another drinking game where players must sit in a circle, this time underneath a Hill Hoist-style clothesline. Attached to one end of the line is a bladder of goon, the local term for cheap, boxed wine. Spin the line, and whomever the bladder stops above has to drink. And no, you never need to buy a vowel or ask to solve the puzzle.
La vache qui tache (FR); No surprise, you’ll need a wine cork to play La vache qui tache (“The Cow Who Stains”), of which one end is blackened by a candle flame. Players take turns calling out fellow players by their pre-assigned numbers until someone screws up in remembering an opponent’s number. At that point, your face gets spotted with the blackened cork and game play continues.
Ping Pong Pan (JPN); Start in a circle with one person saying “ping” then, going clockwise, the person to their left must say “pong.” Then, the next person says “pang” while pointing to a random person, who must then say “ping,” and so on. Seems like they could really spice this game up with an actual ping pong ball and some Solo cups.
Sapo (PE); Unlike most drinking games, which simply involve a table, some alcohol, and some drinkers, Sapo actually involves an apparatus that seems a little costly. Purportedly created by an Incan king, players today toss tokens at a board adorned with a brass sapo (toad) and 25 holes. Tokens that land in the toad’s mouth are worth the most.
Kinito (ESP); Kinito is like Yahtzee for drunks. In this popular game in the Basque region, players sit in a circle (of course). One player shakes two dice inside a shaker, then privately looks at what she rolled, telling her opponents what that number is (which may be a lie). The next player guesses if she is being truthful or not, then rolls his own dice, trying to score higher. At least sangria is usually present and ample.
Pon/Toma (MX); In this game, a six-sided dreidel is employed, with each side bearing a drinking instruction (“toma dos”). Sit in a circle with a community libation in the middle, and then spin the top—whatever the dreidel lands on, you do (i.e. “toma todo”—drink the whole cup).
Bear Paw (RUS); In Bear Paw, a large mug of beer is passed around in a circle. After each player takes a sip, the displaced fluid is replaced by vodka, and the game continues. In theory, eventually the mug will be pure vodka, at which point vodka is displaced by beer, and so on. Winner is last person standing.
Fuzzy Duck (UK); In this game, players sit around in a circle, alternately calling out “fuzzy duck” or “ducky fuzz.” If a player, upon his turn, inadvertently calls out “does he?” then play immediately resumes in the opposite direction. If a player screws up on his turn, he drinks—simple as that.
Kastenlauf (GER); Kastenlauf literally translates to “box run,” and indeed, this drinking game involves running with a beer crate while methodically chugging its contents. Teams of two carry a crate full of beer (20 bottles) between themselves while each drinking a bottle. The first team to finish all their beer and cross the finish line wins.
Party games; Manhunt, charades, Uno, Marco-Polo (the more drunk - the more fun)

OQM Playlist: Life during quarantine #15
With this latest Life during quarantine playlist, Nick Triani pays tribute to cinema composer Ennio Morricone, who passed away Illustration: Juulia Niiniranta
Farewell Maestro
Initially, it had a lot to do with my Italian origins, but in a musical sense Ennio Morricone has a place in my heart as one of my all time favourite musicians and composers. It’s been hard finding a musical hero from Italy. Certainly from a pop and rock perspective, Italy hasn’t furnished me with music I feel can hold a candle to music produced in the UK, US, France or Finland – as a rough conglomerate of nations. Morricone changed that perception of Italian music for me many years ago.
The discovery of Ennio Morricone’s music through the Spaghetti Western themes he forged with Sergio Leone‘s expressive cinema, opened a doorway into what I felt was some of the most emotional music ever made by anyone. Morricone’s passing this week at the age of 91 hit me harder than most musician deaths. The universal nature of the tributes paid to Morricone supply a valuable testament not only to his influence as a composer and arranger, but his ability to appeal to the widest of audiences.
The heart of the matter
Back in 2016, Morricone visited Helsinki for a concert and I wrote for OQM at the time ; “Is there a more recognizable composer in music than Ennio Morricone? A scream, a harmonica, Bolero guitars and a violent whip cracking all point to the Italian maestro. Of course the music Morricone composed for those cheap variations on the true American film, Spaghetti Westerns, ring through popular culture as much today as they did in the 1960s. One could also argue that no filmmaker or composer since Sergio Leone and Morricone have managed to marry as magical a line between the visual and the musical as those two did together. Perhaps Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann come close and if you’re being generous, Steven Spielberg and John Williams are in with a shout. But the choreographic excellence of Once Upon A Time In The West still remains the cineasts high point in sound and vision.”
And whilst I stand by all that, those words don’t convey the pure emotion and heartfelt sincerity Morricone’s music often displayed. As was said by many earlier this week when news of Morricone’s death was breaking, much of his music outstripped the quality of the films his compositions were married with, or at the least elevated those films. But it still doesn’t explain how Ennio was able to bring so much feeling and, once again, the purest expression of emotion from so many of his compositions. As this week’s Life during quarantine playlist plays occasional tribute to one of the highest architects of composition, I can only suggest that those moving soundscapes came from an artist with the biggest of heart’s.

This popped up on my YouTube the other day and not to brag, but...
Oh, why the hell not? It's a small brag, but satisfying. :->
I posted about refilling the Pilot Vpen (IRL-UK) / Varsity (US) - and adding how-to links - about 4 years and then again a year ago.
Here are the how-to links; I'm glad to see they're still active.
This one, like the video, calls for pliers and suggests removing the nib:
This one doesn't use pliers or separate the nib from the feed.
*****
Bragging aside, I'm pleased to see Brian Goulet of Goulet Pens giving this hack a higher profile (and Kudos for it, too - as a retailer it's more in his interest to sell them than refill them!)
His reason is very sound: those cheap little pens (usually about 3-to-4 local currency units whether €, $ or £) are ideal for FP-curious newbies or as no-loss-worries when travelling or no-damage-worries loaners.
They also have much better nibs than the price would suggest. Indeed that seems common to all the inexpensive Pilot pens I've tried, which includes every nib size of MR / Metropolitan.
In addition, IMO the notion of "disposable" fountain pens goes completely against the principal FP virtue, where once you've bought the pen, all you USE is the ink.
*****
I should mention, for completeness, that some "starter" fountain pens have prices not much more than these disposables and, refilled by "proper" ink cartridges / bottle-refill converters, don't involve anything like this trouble.
Just saying...
*****
It just so happens that one of my two Vpens was about due for a refill, so here are some pics of the process.
I scrubbed the markings off the barrels a long time ago so I could see what was inside, since refills mean the ink in the pen often has nothing to do with its colour-indicator cap.
Tumblr media
First, disassembled and washed in changes of warm water until the water stays clear.
Tumblr media
Here's the nib and feed: they've always come out of both Vpens as a single unit, with no need for pliers. Since the nibs show no desire to come off I've no desire to force the issue and maybe break something; those little ink-guide fins are delicate.
Tumblr media
The filler is a small syringe begged from our local vet. I also use it to refill cartridges with custom ink colours (yup, I sometimes roll my own...)
Tumblr media
Its "needle" is plastic tubing (an empty Pilot gel-pen cartridge, appropriately enough) which fits the syringe perfectly, and a pointy end made by stretching the tube over a candle-flame then snipping to length. If it gets too stained - this is nearly there - just chuck it in the recycle bin and make a new one.
The ink could have been any of the 30-odd I have at the minute, or something mixed specially, but I chose this one - a nice dark green - for the same reason @dduane had me buy it.
Tumblr media
It's a very cute bottle... :->
*****
And here's the "disposable" pen refilled, reassembled and re-writing.
Tumblr media
It really does have a better nib than you'd expect from a supposedly single-use pen...
*****
It sometimes takes a while for the ink to work its way by capillary action down from barrel to nib, especially if everything has been left to dry after washing. Put the cap on the pen and be patient.
Or speed things up by taking the cap off and running a thin stream of hot water over the barrel for 30 seconds or so. This increases internal pressure, forcing the ink along the section fins.
NB, this step is only for a refilled Vpen / Varsity. Don't try it with anything else, and in case it's not obvious, do this at a washbasin or sink, because You Never Know.
Now use a bit of kitchen paper or loo roll to blot the water which has got on the nib. This has a mild "suction" effect, and when you see ink on the paper (you might need to wet the nib again) your refilled pen is ready for use.
This wet-and-blot nib step can be used to encourage any stubborn fountain pen to get back in action, but the hot water trick, once again, is Vpen only.
Anyway, done.

(gif by @stylesrecord)
SIX
It’s a warm, sunny day, a blessing in April for people living in the UK. Trees are blooming, the sky is the most brilliant blue color and birds are chirping relentlessly, singing about the arrival of spring.
Today is your sixth birthday. Your mom says you’re a big girl now, but she’s been also calling you her baby all day, so you’re not sure if she truly means it.
Your grandparents are over at your house and some of your friends too. The birthday party has kicked off after lunch and you’re having a blast, especially because you got a new bicycle, it’s got rainbow colored wheels and a basket on the front, exactly what you wanted!
“Y/N! It’s cake time!” your mom steps out, carrying your cake that has six pink candles lit on top.
You and your friends run up to the table as your parents start singing Happy Birthday to you, everyone joining while you take your seat at the table, eyeing the cake happily.
“Make a wish, Sweetie,” your dad tells you when the song is over. You take a deep breath, close your eyes and think of what you want the most.
There’s a girl down the street, Maria, she is older than you, already in middle school. Your moms are friends so sometimes you hang out with her. She just got a boyfriend and she told you all about how amazing Jake is.
“He holds my hand in school and kisses me on the cheek every morning,” Maria told you as she was drawing in her diary. “I love him, we’re going to get married.”
Opening your eyes you look at the candles and make a wish as you blow them out.
I wish I had a boyfriend.
Everyone cheers as you blow the candles out and your mom helps you cut the cake, handing the slices out to every guest.
The party stretches late, the Sun is already setting when the backyard empties out. You’re riding your new bike in front of your house as your parents clean up. The sky is painted orange and red and you know you have to head in anytime now, so you’re trying to make the best out of your time outside.
A football rolls in your way and you get off your bike to stop the ball from disappearing in the bushes. You spot a curly haired boy running towards you as you grab the ball and wait for him to reach you.
“Thank you!” he sighs as he finally slows down in front of you. He is cute, he’s got green eyes and a wide smile that brings a weird feeling into your tummy.
You hand him the ball and step back to your bike, but he doesn’t move, instead eyes your new gift.
“I like your bike,” he smiles, cocking his head to the side. For a second you think he is just making fun of you, but you heard no mocking in his voice.
“Thanks, I got it for my birthday today,” you tell him shyly.
“Your birthday is today?”
“Yes.”
“Well, happy birthday then,” he smiles just when a woman calls his name down the street. “It’s my mum, I have to go. Bye,” he waves at you before running off with the ball under his arm.
Sitting on your new bike on the evening of your sixth birthday, you watch your future boyfriend run down the street after meeting you for the first time.
SIXTEEN
You shouldn’t have worn heels, it was a mistake. But you wanted to look fancy, you couldn’t go out wearing something ridiculous or cheap, not when your boyfriend is a superstar who is in a boyband known in all of Europe and maybe all around the world.
The dress you bought with your mum just for today is kind of itchy and pretty tight, but seemingly Harry likes it, judging from the way he ogled you when he picked you up to take you out for dinner for your birthday. You’ve been waiting for tonight all month, Harry has been away a lot lately which sucks, but you’re happy he gets to live his dream and essentially that’s what matters.
You’ve been dating a little over a year now. His X-Factor audition was on your one month anniversary, so you’ve been by his side on this crazy journey all along. In the beginning you were afraid he’d forget about you and go after all the girls he could get with just a wink, but he has proven it several times that he only wants you.
Now you’re standing in a fancy restaurant wearing your fancy dress and shoes as your boyfriend is arguing with the hostess, because she says he doesn’t have a reservation.
“But I did! I even called in a few days ago!” Harry groans as a line is starting to form behind you.
“Sir, I am very sorry, but we don’t have your name on the list,” the woman explains again, not budging.
“Okay, then is there any chance we can get a table? I mean… I can tweet about the restaurant and get some fame for it,” he offers and the hostess furrows her eyebrows at him. It’s the first time you hear him trying to play his famous card, but apparently it’s not working yet, or the hostess is not familiar with the work of One Direction.
“Um, I can’t make an exception. I’m sorry.”
Harry opens his mouth to argue again, but you place a hand to his bicep.
“H, it’s alright. Let’s just go somewhere else,” you tell him, your hand sliding down to take his and pull him towards the door. He hesitates, paying another glance to the hostess, but when he sees your pleading face he gives in and the two of you walk out with empty stomachs.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry. I wanted tonight to be special, I swear I made a reservation!”
“It’s alright,” you tell him and truly mean it. Spending time with him is enough, it doesn’t matter where it’s happening.
“But you deserve a fancy sixteenth birthday and now I can finally pay for it! I even bought you that necklace you wanted so badly,” he sighs as he pulls out the long jewelry box from his coat’s pocket. You gasp as he opens the lid and shows you the gift.
“Harry, it’s amazing, but you know you don’t have to spend your money on me,” you tell him, cupping his face in your hands as you kiss him chastely.
“But I want to, you deserve to be spoiled,” he pouts like a little boy and now he looks just like the Harry you know from before the fame and fans, your old Harry.
“Spoil me with your time and attention,” you smile at him.
He takes the necklace out of the box and puts it on you, even takes a picture of you in excitement as you’re still standing on the pavement out on the street. Looking around your stomach growls right when you see a hotdog stand not far away.
“Hey, let’s get that dinner,” you tell him, pulling him towards the stand. Not even ten minutes later the two of you are sitting in his car in a parking lot, eating hotdogs in your fancy clothes, listening to your favorite songs while talking and laughing.
Even though the evening didn’t turn out to be the way Harry planned it, it was still a memorable one and if you had the chance to do it over, you’d still choose the hotdogs in his car over the fancy restaurant.
TWENTY-SIX
The size of the crowd is mind-blowing. It’s one massive sea of people for as far as you can see and all of them are focusing on one person at this very moment.
Your husband.
Harry is in his element, you watch him dance around the stage in his discoball outfit, that’s how you’ve been calling it since you first saw it at his fitting, but you love it so much and he knows it too. The band is playing so well, you know the fans are going absolutely crazy about the new songs and the old ones as well.
Today has been a special day and Harry made sure about that. Because today is your twenty-sixth birthday and as always, your husband likes to make a big deal out of it. At this point it’s more for him than you. Alright, that’s a far stretch, because seeing him so excited makes you happy too so it’s a win-win for the both of you.
He surprised you with breakfast in bed, he delayed everything he needed to do for as long as possible so the two of you could have some alone time in the middle of the desert and you surely used it wisely.
Then he got you a full glam team, hair, makeup, outfits, everything was taken care of so you could look your best on your day. While you were being treated like a princess he cooked for you and the team with the help of Sarah and Mitch, so when you were all glammed up you had an early dinner with the whole group, having a blast before heading to the festival.
He got you a variety of presents, but all of them were so special. Limited edition books, the Chanel coat you’ve been secretly eyeing for a long time and your absolute favorite, a handmade mug he made in his pottery class, his latest hobby and obsession. It’s a little wobbly and uneven, but you’ll be using it till the end of time for sure.
Arriving to the festival you let him take the spotlight, because it’s his day too, though you had a feeling he wasn’t done with the birthday celebration just yet.
Shania Twain is now walking off the stage after surprising the crowd and killing it with Harry, who is clearly starstruck even though he knew it was happening. He is so happy and seeing him like this warms your chest too.
“How are you feeling tonight?” he asks a little out of breath as the band gets ready for the next song. The crowd screams and he grins at the reaction. “Okay, we have some more songs to play, don’t worry, but before we move on there’s something I want to do.”
Just from the look on his face you see on the big screen you already know what it’s gonna be about.
“Oh shit,” you mumble, chuckling under your breath.
“Today is a special day and not just because I’m playing on this stage, but also because it’s the birthday of a very special person. Y/N? Y/N, where are you?”
He is looking around and two crew members come up to you in an instant, leading you onto the stage, you don’t even have time to protest.
“There she is! Give it up to my wife everyone!” he chuckles as he walks towards you, meeting you halfway before taking your hand and pulling you to the middle.
“Harry…” you sigh with a grin on your face as you hold onto his hand tightly.
“Don’t be shy, babe, today is your day!” he smiles and kisses your forehead, making the crowd swoon. “So today is Y/N’s birthday so I want all of you to sing happy birthday to her, can we do that?” The crowd screams in unison and you’re turning into a giggling mess at all the attention you’re getting.
With Harry’s lead the whole festival starts to sing happy birthday to you and it’s surely the most massive version of the song you’ve ever heard, a memory you’ll remember forever.
“… Happy birthday to youuu!” the song finishes and Harry pulls you into a hug as the crowd screams and cheers for you.
“Happy birthday, baby,” he mumbles into your ear so only you can hear it.
“Thank you,” you squeeze him before letting him go.
“Just so you guys know how special it is that she is celebrating her birthday by my side, we were together on her sixteenth birthday as well, that was kind of a disaster, we ended up eating hotdogs in my car because my dinner reservation got messed up. I wanted to impress her with a fancy dinner, but that went completely wrong.”
“But I loved it so much,” you tell him, though the mic doesn’t pick up much of it.
“And what’s crazier, I met her on her sixth birthday two decades ago!” he announces and another round of screaming erupts from the crowd. “There was this little girl on her new bicycle, she caught my football and I told her I liked her bike. I didn’t know her name and we didn’t meet for a few more years again, but that was the moment I met my future wife. So Happy birthday, baby. Thank you for lighting up my world every day. I love you.”
“I love you too,” you tell him, stealing another kiss before running off the stage so his set can carry on. You watch him in awe for the rest of his show and wish to spend many more birthdays with him.
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed and buy me a coffee if you want to support me!

QAI like Chaunette Shaw's interior and lifestyle but we have WAGs or journos who show a little piece of their privacy certain trolls are able to recognise Tazer's kitchen in the background of his new gf's photo. Apparently Toews Kane/Crosby Interesting/Ashetoewsgurl has recognised Toews's black kitchen from the video for Drew Barrymore's TV show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caley Cheelios invites you from time to time to her garden with chicken or her kitchen with her dancing children. Other WAGs are IN influencers and we see their house often. Other women are just panning their faces against the white wall and small peak or one photo of the coffee machine next to old painting or yellow candle holders next to candle is a pinnacle of revealing privacy.
Tumblr media
Elina Cassell, Hjalmarsson before has revealed her home taste matching her similar fashion style in Scandinavian decor. Elina has posted photos of her home design signed as interior designer Elina.

When fashion style (her party dress is nice and sleak or sexy) meets home décor or her multiple mentioned favourite NHL example Auston Matthews who is known for his eclectic fashion style. Yes, Troll's favourite target beside WAGs, a sport commentator/biz woman Marketa BLW and her countryside pad. Still more personality than Royal Christmas photo with dull beige walls next to cheap shiny Christmas gift box. Yuk. Like a modern wicker lampshade.

i have been thanked by Marketa's US lawyers led by her long term ex bf lawyer from Santa Barbara who are checking whether Rachel Meghan Markle has used anything from Marketa's estates Balmoral and Sandringham where Catherine, Princess of Wales got a boot from Anmer Hall, already locks changed as their illegal sublet is not worthy of paper. Marketa takes full control and intellectual possession of he estates since January 1,2023. I should forward the notice that any photo opt or visit up to this date without her consent will be tackled in the court rooms and female in laws such as Kate Middleton are advised to hire an expert's in the field of nominee trust and property law rather than a media lawyer because they prefer clothes and media attention. District Judge Russell of Norwich court, UK has made couple of serious procedural irregularities in past and media lawyer Miss Prince who was not an expert in nominee trust and real estate law has exchanged two emails as off court communication with late response to the case against Catherine Mountbatten Windsor, nee Middleton, Princess of Wales. Marketa BLW has confirmed that the royals and so Queen breach regularly independence of justice in UK and late Queen has ordered to stop a court case by Daily Mail against Rachel Meghan Markle who is still seen as a part of Royal Family despite their attitude and public opinion.
I was told Thank you for an alert and informed that they lodged a lawsuit against Canadian troll Ashley who is behind two fan blogs, one fan IN account and insane blabbing about Crosby and Marketa on Blogger. It explains how certain crazies knows how certain women stating outside of the press and social media are recognised after ten years. I would struggle to recognise Zach Parise or Taylor Johnson now . It explains why I am Lee now - a fictional character of Mrs Troll on her old sci fi blog to Randy Morin being called Marketa himself.. Toews has been apparently advised to unfollow her and so Marcus Aubrey from Austin, Texas for his charlatan like pseudo medicine pedalling psychedelic stuff, steroids etc, hatred about races and Jews and promotion of Donald Trump with conspiracy theories.
With permission of Marketa's lawyers and upon their request as she will be accountable for any possible defamation Jonathan Toews's slump in absence of offense is not caused by physical side but mental one and unlinked to the reasons of NHL franchise's change - Alex deBrincat. Toews has been struggling significantly since 2017 when Aubrey Marcus has entered the scene, so Innit gym and so called holistic trips to Arizona etc with certain groups . While Toews has climbed back to his previous peak in 2018 when he has adjusted his diet back to meat instead of just plant, carbon free food and tons of pseudo energy drinks and supplements by Aubrey his visible decreased personal performance on the ice has remained. He has showed good improvement in the first NHL games but it has been all..He is frustrated, flight or fight mode and no focus to score or pass the goal which is a problem of his mind rather than body. He uses advice from Aubrey's know how etc. According M's lawyers her streaming and social media company and so Spotify, Twitter, Amazon will limit Aubrey's biz and spread of his theories and Josh's podcast will be curated to be conspiracy, hate free.
Elina Cassell has new biz. Home design. I recommend to check crazy fashion style of Austin Matthews. Crazy like his 60 last season.

Great Big List of Possible Muggle Hobbies for Snape (with some explanations):
1) Calligraphy/Lettering - he was trying to improve his penmanship, but he just likes being able to do multiple different styles
2) Geocaching - he found a box while foraging the nearest park and went looking for more
3) Ceramics or glass blowing - he can make himself special vials/jars
4) Piano - he's got the hands for it and can sort of meditate on pieces he knows; he doesn't own one, so he has to go somewhere that has one
5) Collecting Vinyls - Lily's gifted him some as a teen; he likes looking at the cover art more than listening to them (Lily liked to listen more than he did)
6) Wine n' Cheese Tasting - let this man have some wine and fancy cheeses
7) Home Brewing - it's not that far off from potions and he could sell home-brews; he gets to experiment
8) Chess - Lucius gifted him a chess set
9) Constructed languages - for secret messages with Lily before the fallout
10) Meditation - part of Occlumency
11) Going to the Theater (plays) - it's just nice to go see the arts sometimes
12) Improv or Acting - it sharpens the mind and helps him think on his feet while talking and controlling his body movements/reactions
13) Trivia - gets to show off knowing things
14) Puzzles - mind work-out
15) Read and/or Book club - we always tie books to Snape; he gets to argue about books with people who want to argue about books
16) Science Experiments - it's very close to potions; how can Snape not enjoy some chemistry?
17) Soap-making - saves money if it's cheap soap, but also he can make it scented a certain way and probably put potions in it
18) Candle-making - saves money on electricity if it's cheap candles, but also atmosphere and (again) can probably put potions in it
19) Sowing - for repairing clothes when you can't use magic
20) Urban foraging - picked this up as a kid
21) Antiquing/Thrift-shopping - this is just from being pragmatic with his savings
22) Urban gardening - food and potion ingredients
23) Billiards or Darts - picked this up at a summer job
24) Poker - also picked this up at a summer job; very good at Poker
25) Slight of Hand Tricks - I just feel like he'd enjoy it and it'd be good for spy tasks
26) Wood carving - sometimes he just wants to meditate and have a temporary rune to show for it, but also we know how good Snape is with knives
27) Mixology - there is a pattern of picking things up at summer jobs
28) Survivalist prepping (not Doomsday Prepping) - picked this up from plans of running away from home that never came to fruition; just useful as a spy
29) Home Cigarette rolling - for those of us that like to have Snape smoke; he understands Herbology for potions, so he could make his own cigarette blends
30) Visiting Botanical Gardens - lets him look at plants; I feel like he'd like that Poison Garden in the UK
31) Nature Still Life Sketching - from drawing potion ingredients
32) Star-gazing - he used to do it during Astronomy once he finished his work, but also it's helps with de-compressing after stress
33) Flower-pressing - part of the wandering around in the forest looking for potion ingredients
34) Writing - specifically writing letters to Editors
these are all SO great, anon!!! thank you for sharing!
