A giant sculpture in a form of candlesticks which is made from over a 1000 magnums from Chateau Lafite Rothschild, lit from inside by LEDS! This has been commisioned by Joana Vasconcelos in 2015. No. 6. 1960 Vega Sicilia: We opened this bottle following a very special dinner with the head winemaker for Vega Sicilia. This bottle belied it’s age and showed how incredibly well Vega Sicilia can age! . No. 7. There is a tie for 7th between 1945 Lafite and 1961 Mouton. These two legendary wines were shared with good friends to commemorate a milestone birthday. These wines were not a mere novelty. They not only still had life left, but were really drinking well and even looked much younger in the glass. . No. 8. 2005 Chateau Rayas: Even though I never tried a sound bottle from this producer previously, I correctly blinded this wine as a Rayas. It was everything I imagined it would be and more! . No. 9. 1978 Petrus: This wine outclassed an incredible lineup the night we opened it! . Ten years later, #bordeaux vintage #2008 tastes better as they get older. In a recent article by @nealmartin123 wrote, “the 2008s are much better than 2007 and 2011 thanks to that long hang time, which means they have plenty to offer in terms of complexity, freshness and fruit intensity. They are not structured behemoths à la 2010 that oblige the patience of a saint and yet they have sufficient backbone to merit medium-term cellaring and age with style. Tasting the Chateau Lafite Rothschild from the epic 1945 vintage is definitely one of this year’s wine highlights (so far)! Despite its age, this wine was no mere novelty. It was drinking very well! Bordeaux from the 45 vintage was incredibly tannic after release and many of the wines took decades to reach peak. For that reason, many of the 45s have aged incredibly well (which makes me cautiously optimistic for my 86s).
