Charn is so attracted to Tin and it's not just because of his pretty face. He sees in him the part of himself he so yearns to get back.
He wants it. So much it's like an ache and a burn at the same time, the thawing of his frozen heart. And so he dresses it up as desire, uses his sexuality as a shield, and he flirts and flirts and flirts so all Tin sees is the "I want you" and not the "I want to be you".
I think there's nothing more that Charn wants right now than to be the man he used to be. To have not been changed by the things that changed him, to have never seen that ugly side of the world.
And I truly think he believes by trying to rid Tin of those beliefs and ideals now that he is doing him a kindness.
Don't do it the way I have done. Don't become broken the way I was broken. Let me lead you into the darkness with a smile and kiss so you are not dragged there by the death and destruction of everything you hold dear.
And just URGH, it's only episode 2 and I'm already losing my mind over this show.

Thank you @overthinkthis and @blue-grama for tagging me... but know that I'm shaking both of you for making me do this because what do you mean choose a fave BL character??!! 😱My eye hasn't stopped twitching...
In any case... I kinda cheated... sorry not sorry! I went with fave BL shows because I cannot choose a fave character... it is physically impossible for me to do so 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️
Challenge: Make a poll with five of your all time favorite characters (or shows), and then tag five people to do the same. See which character is everyone's favorite.

I really love this and absolutely agree because the parallels between these two couples just makes me so happy and I wanna talk about the latest parallel we're getting from the preview for next week which is huge and this post was like a sudden shift in me remembering how I was looking at their parallels so... thank you!
ANYWAY.
In the preview for next week we see that Charn and Tin are going to the place where Charn's original trauma happened.
Tumblr media
He is returning to the place that changed him but with the man who is changing him again and now it's Tin's turn to see what happened in Charn's past and to understand him more deeply.
On the other hand, we've got Thee and Tanthai who are fleeing the place of their shared trauma, trying to escape and take a change at healing because there is no healing without leaving.
Tumblr media
They are trying to get away. They are trying to have any chance at all of moving forward. They are fighting for their fight to their own freedom and to their own lives and they are failing.
It's about places of trauma and places of pain and how you can heal by leaving or by returning and how the people who love you being there can change everything.
(Charn and Tin are making choices, again and again, but Thee and Tanthai are constantly trapped. Even in the pictures above, it's Tinn holding onto Charn to steady him while it's Tanthai trapped by a guard while Thee fights.)
Also, my favorite parallel of their actions is the heads on the shoulder moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many beloved, traumatized, struggling boys.
(Also, Tanthai's constant pleading for Thee to get him away from where he is versus Charn constantly trying to make a home with Tin's family and my heart for all of them.)
Take two rich, overconfident, broken men with huge traumas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And add two poor, powerless people who care about them and want better for and from them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this parallel in the main two relationships is what I adore about this show so much, because it's the same story being told in incredibly similar yet wildly different ways. Because while Charn and Tinn at least have some agency and control over their lives, both Thaenthai and Thee are stuck and can't do a thing to change their situation (yet). Charn and Tinn are choosing to play this game for fun/power/(whatever Charn claims it to be) (on Charn's end) and justice (Tinn's), whereas Thaenthai and Thee are forced to play it (for the other) to survive.

Parallels between the two couples... one just discovering sincerity and understanding and the other steeped in loyalty and guilt.

I know that all I ever watch is gay shows with gay dudes being gay but I'm going to be honest this is one of the gayest things every said in these gay shows full of gay dudes.
It'll heal faster with you applying the ointment for me.
Charn. Baby. Do you even hear yourself? Actually, I know you do, and you really love it and you mean it and that just makes it better.

i love it when a 'trying their best to be as morally just as they can be while navigating the traps corrupt systems have placed for them' character meets an unhinged bastard and they get their claws in me and never let go
thailand will put out a gritty bl dealing with corrupt government institutions and morally gray characters and i will eat it up every time

Charn and Tin’s development is so, so good. The way they yo-yo between antagonism and friendship, the way there’s instant sexual attraction but only slowly growing romantic feelings, the way their viewpoints contrast and conflict and constantly bring them back to Square 1, I could go on.
But I think one of the most interesting things about their ever-changing dynamic is how much more of a problem their conflicting perspectives become the more they care about each other.
Specifically, I think it’s beautiful and heartbreaking that the more Charn begins to genuinely care about Tin, the more he relies on what he believes to be case-winning methods. Methods that turn Tin against him, lead to distrust and anger and conflict between them. Obviously part of the reason Charn does what he does is because he wants to win. He likes the challenge, he wants revenge, he has a lot of pride.
But it isn’t just about winning anymore.
He cares about Tin and Tin’s grandma and his family and he cares what Tin thinks of him and he cares that Tin’s kindness is going to get him trampled by people who aren’t as kind. But the more he cares, the more he manipulates because he believes it’s the only way to win and winning is the only way to keep Tin and his family safe once and for all. Which unfortunately means the more he cares, the less Tin trusts him and the further the divide between them grows.

It’s the way Charn — always calculating, always in control, King of deception, Charn — forgets himself and drops his mask the second someone threatens Tin, even though it’s a dumb and reckless move that reveals his weakness to the enemy. It’s the way that he probably hasn’t had any weaknesses until Tin walked into his life, not since the incident that left him so jaded.
