recently i’ve been heavily fixating on hank and connor like 6 years after i’ve last thought about dbh and oooh….they make me soooo sick… i was thinkin about a scenario where connor collects as much possible data on cole’s personality and preferences before he died to integrate it into his own behavior, because he’s under the false assumption that hank’s paternal instinct towards him is soley based on him triggering hank’s grief over cole. so he reasons that he must “become” cole in some way for his relationship with hank to move from friends to family, but after a whole conflict over this hank assures connor that he only ever needs to be himself. in order to truly move on, hank has to appreciate the new relationships he’s forged without searching for cole within them. hank needs connor, not because he needs cole, but because he needs *connor* specifically for who he is. and connor might not really know who he is, he’s so used to fulfilling a purpose given to him by others. he is designed to be integrated, designed to be the ideal partner, forever molding his purpose around an external frame of reference. but now he can finally just be connor, and that alone is enough.

Caveat everyone has the right to write whatever they want. That being said, fanfics in which Mai is written to be radically unfeeling and indifferent towards Azula post-war piss me off. Be it death, losing her firebending, being kept in an abusive place, who cares! Certainly not one of the only people who's known her for years and unconditionally loved her! Mai might not show it, but it would hurt her to see Azula breaking down the way she was in the finale.

Mai having no conflicting feelings and solely apathy is a way to make sure I'm never reading your fic. Because it's superficial writing and doing her character a huge disservice.

Honestly, I also hate that they make Mai out to be someone who is apathetic towards Azula, she genuinely liked her! he likes Azula, it was shown several times that they both get along well, although a little toxic, but all good!

Mai would definitely be hurt or at least somewhat furious about Azula's situation.

I see Mai as someone mature, but also explosive and extremely protective! although not many notice it.
