charmed rewatch (s1-s4 premiere) hits-different-as-an-adult takewaways, in threes: $,$,$

- Phoebe's lack of a job s1-s3. granted, fighting the forces of darkness etc, *somebody* needs to be actually learning witchy ways & conveniently Buffy-level "self-defense". But aside from a couple eps addressing it, what was she doing all day every day before going back to school?! Every other episode I found myself going "is she still not working?!" And then once re-enrolled, are her sisters covering her tutition? she's already living off their shared income for groceries etc. Or is a loan in the mix? Wasn't she in debt from NY when she moved home? It's Friends style living, OK, but on a sisters-&-roommates dynamic basis I'm team Pull Your Damn Weight!

- Prue's creative career change. Her photography passion is a total retcon, part of her s3 "cooler" rebrand vs Latin-speaking antiquities/art expert Prue. Change itself aside - it's frustratingly easy. & somehow while Phoebe is still in school & not working. An instant full-time photography job that based on that BMW poses no income changes or challenges? Can't relate. Must be nice. Now that's fantasy.

- The window repairman. I wish we met the stained glass repair expert they must call biweekly - they are probably singlehandedly paying the repairman's mortgage. The house's episodic destruction is comical but at least lampshaded by them referencing this bill after the Banshee episode. Apparently fixing the windows magically is personal gain (though moving things around with magic for attic-cleaning is not?) Nor something your handyman/whitelighter can handle? Yeah this would be the temptation that would break me - I'd be rhyming my way into repaired windows before I'd be writing those fix-it checks.

Queen Reiju (and her two bodyguards) & Sanji reunion illustration! Sometime after the end of the story, somewhere in a restaurant in the All Blue.

I found myself wanting Reiju to get happy ending so badly, I ended up doing something I've never done before, and probably won't do again: I wrote a fic about it lol. I'm not a prose person, but the tragic siblings brainworms got to me. This illustration is meant to go at the end of it! I'm too embarrassed to share my writing here (and this site hates links), so you're probably gonna have to find it yourself. If you run into one called "Let's Start Over"- that's the one, lol.

ok fun accent hc time since I saw it around recently, but the way I build Ferelden is very 3-prong uk: british-irish-welsh and the latter two are much stronger towards the north. So Nanna for most of her life spoke in a softer variance of Heightened Received Pronunciation, which tends to be more or less what you grow into in Ferelden's Circle, counting for variance of region a mage is coming from, but in the 10+ years she's spent in Amaranthine has given her a twang of a much stronger Southern Welsh accent.

Here's to us

the generation that watched their favorite shows live

that had to wait a week for the next episode (multiple weeks for holiday breaks & months for summer breaks)

the generation that cried with how a particular episode ended or had alot of feelings and then (painstakingly) had to wait for dial up to pass to log onto a fairly new Fan Forum (hey, the internet was just becoming a big thing) so you can talk about it.

the generation that was a complete "The WB" whore and watched just about every show they had.

the generation that wrote fanfiction and helped spark Fanfiction.net or Archives of Our Own

the generation that got to be the last great generation where we played outside all day and came in for dinner just in time to watch a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Dawson's Creek or Angel.

the unique generation that has knowledge of life before the internet and life after it. Nobody else will experience that.

Here it goes. Shannen Doherty’s passing hit home for me. Did I know her personally? No, but I felt I did, I grew up watching her as a kid. I remember when Charmed first aired as a kid. She’ll always be Prue Halliwell to me. I often like to think I modeled a lot of my personality traits after Prue/Shannen. I saw that as they are one, because as her co-star, and sister Holly stated “Shannen was born to play Prue.” She was. Blessed with looks, fierceness, intelligence, talent etc. Her presence will definitely be missed in the Charmed fandom. I was always so inspired by her whenever I would watch her in interviews. Some people just have that “It” factor and Shannen definitely had it.

Shannen was an absolute warrior, from talking about all that she overcame being a woman in Hollywood, and an opinionated one who also wasn’t shy about her being rough around the edges. From battling cancer in front of the whole world, and put up one hell of a fight till the very end.

Another thing about Shannen is that she had admiration, and passion for horses like I do. I grew up with horses, and they still play a starring role in my life. From trail rides, theater, and movie productions, and even charity events I couldn’t imagine life without them, and I know Shannen couldn’t.

For other fandoms who know what it’s like to endure the lost of an actor/actress of a beloved franchise please keep the Charmed fandom in your thoughts, and prayers. Also keep Holly in your thoughts and prayers. Shannen’s best friend, and sister. My heart breaks for her. All the pictures and videos she has been sharing. It really feels like watching the episodes where Piper is mourning Prue. I don’t think I’ll be able to watch certain episodes anymore. “All Hell Breaks Loose”, “Charmed Again” part 1 & 2, and “Hell Hath No Furry.” My prayers also go out to Shannen’s mother, and brother as well.

Shannen Thank you for the magic you shared with, for the 53 years you were on this earth. Thank you for showing us to walk with a purpose in life. Sometimes I ask God why? Why create and bless with some of your best class act grand standing people only to take them away from us?
