THERISEOFJJONES : We walked through the door at Blerdcon and made it about 5 feet in the span of 30 minutes due to how often we were stopped for photos. And that continued throughout the whole day. Wherever we went we were stopped for photo ops. Being that this is my 3rd con ever and the first one where I wore a costume, it was surreal to me! I'm used to holding the bags and it was all new to me. Definitely a new experience for me. And people would walk up and say things like "there's a snake in my boots" and I would respond with another Woody quote like "You're my favorite Deputy!" I enjoyed that.

CHARLIEROCKET :  It was funny because people would ask for our photo, and JJ would automatically assume they were just asking for a photo of me !l He would grab my bags and start walking away. And I had to tell him- "You know we're cosplaying from Toy Story, right??? People want to see Woody AT VERY LEAST! They aren't out here for Bo Peep alone! LOL" And he was so in character as Woody! He had the walk down! He was saying all the quotes haha! As for me, I have never cosplayed a character that required a dress at all! So wearing a hoop skirt was a big adjustment! I was feeling my most pretty pink princess self, which was super new to me! And moving around the con, through people, on elevators and escalators was definitely a learning adjustment haha! I have always loved Bo Peep's character. When I saw Toy Story in theaters in 1995 (Not to age myself), I was drawn to her nurturing and caring personality. She was such an overlooked character and when she basically faded away over time I was highly upset. Bo Peep has been on my cosplay list since I started cosplaying! So when Toy Story 4 was announced and Bo Peep was a main character, I thought that now was the perfect time to make my dream a reality.

Surprisingly, Bo Peep was the easy one! I purchased the Bo Peep costume from MicCostumes and only had very few adjustments to make to it. The bonnet had no way of staying on my head, so I attached a hair clip inside. I also had to take in the sides of the dress a little bit. For her crook, I wanted to make sure it was tall enough to be screen accurate, but also able to hook Woody by the neck hahaha! I ordered a crook on Amazon and painted it to be the correct color. I also found her shoes at Good Will. As for Woody, it is difficult finding a full Woody costume without it being an onsie, so we had to get creative. We ordered a "Woody costume set" that included the hat, bandanna, and vest. We also searched for some cowboy boot covers so that it looked more "doll-like" and also they're cheaper than actual cowboy boots haha! With the basics set, we just ordered a yellow button up from Amazon and hand tailored it ourselves.

THERISEOFJJONES : It's changed my life. I don't even know how to word this, because cosplay has brought me so much. Cosplay has literally helped me to find my people. It's so funny that in the world you think there is nobody like you, but through cosplay you realized there are people like you and they're right here. Cosplay has brought me a since of community and made me feel like I belong. It has definitely changed my life for the better. And it brought me my Bo Peep! I feel like cosplay validated who I am.

CHARLIEROCKET : Cosplay has been such a crazy ride. I definitely had an unconventional start to cosplay. My first guest appearance at a convention was only months into my start with cosplay. I was kind of thrown in the deep end. And when I started, I just felt like an introvert who had a love for nerd culture and the characters we all grew up with. I've always loved costumes and figured cosplay was the best way to show my love and appreciation for those characters. But it developed into a platform where I could speak about the topics that are important to me. I could talk about diversity, body image, parenting, and changing the narrative on all the platforms we love in this community. I have found lifelong friends. I have found a purpose that I would have never known or ever dreamed of. I have found my identity and so much confidence. And I've never had the opportunity to wear couples cosplays until now and it is life changing! I am now addicted and most of my costumes are going to end up being in a pair haha! My Bo Peep would have been so incomplete without Woody!
