anyway have i mentioned i love that vaggie's weapon is a spear. i love that her weapon is a spear

vaggie is exactly the kinda practical, pragmatic, kill kill kill lady who'd say no thanks to the "cool" weapons like swords (coughcouchlutecouch) and go for something works best with the people around her (group of spears for the win) while helping her specifically (short lady equips weapon with Reach) and that just makes me feeeeeel she'd be not just GOOD at heading into a fight first to assess things and clear the way, but also tactically minded enough (cough cough the manager mindset cough) to sign up for that so she can be SURE it gets done right and

good character weapon choice in media means a lot to me... i love it

I. HAZBIN HOTEL RESIDENTS

charlie – harley quinn, matching with vaggie!! she's dressed up every single year ever since she was a tiny little baby because her parents always dressed up too

vaggie – poison ivy, matching with charlie!! she's been dressing up every year with charlie ever since she fell. used to have to be convinced, now she does it willingly. also the one who THOROUGHLY searches everyone's candy

angel dust – rlly revealing twinky ass latex catboy outfit. he's a firm believer in dressing slutty for halloween every year and proudly announces it

husker / husk – his old boomer ass never dresses up, says he's “going as himself” when anyone asks

alastor – doesn't usually dress up, until the rest of the hotel does. then, he'll join the “pathetic holiday festivities.” would maybe go as a nun?? don't really have any ideas for him tbh

niffty – one of those “sexy maid/nurse” outfits… im sorry you KNOW it's canon

sir pentious – asks cherri to match with him, gets rejected because the costume idea was “to lame” for her. eventually buckles to his brit roots and goes as queen elizabeth

egg bois – obviously matching with pentious!! they'd go as royal guards since he's queen elizabeth ykyk

fat nuggets – obviously angel puts him in an old fashioned pretty blonde wig and fucked up little dress and says he's a “alcoholic 90's smoker mom core hoe!”

keekee – goes as catwoman/selina kyle to complete the trio, since charlie and vaggie are going as harley and ivy respectively

razzle &. dazzle – razzle goes as a knight, and dazzle as a princess. they match every year obvs!!

II. THE THREE VEES

valentino – uhhmm idk he probably goes as sexy/revealing border patrol to be controversial and piss people off like the actual menace to society he is LMAO

vox – goes as alastor but adds really exaggerated/ugly traits like a massive squidward nose to make fun of him cuz he's obsessed or wtvs idk!!

velvette – the only one who takes halloween SERIOUSLY out of the vees, as the fashion icon she is. definitely makes her own costume every year, goes as whatever is trending at the time

Since I’ve seen criticism on Stephanie’s performance as Vaggie here and there, I feel like defending her a little bit.

As someone only got to know Stephanie since Hazbin Hotel, I was very surprised to look at her filmography on IMDb, because I had watched Encanto, Maya and the Three, Q-Force, The Legend of Vox Machina, One Day at A Time, and Modern Family way before Hazbin Hotel, but it never occurred to me once that these characters were played by the same VA / actor. I think it alone kind of speaks how versatile she is.

Some people say they find it weird that Vaggie singing voice does not matching her speaking voice, but I’ve been suspected the different voices were intentional since the beginning. If you listen to her lines in ‘Happy Day in Hell’, ‘You Didn’t Know’ and ‘Finale’ closely, Stephanie can actually sing at a lower register. ‘Whatever It Takes’ and ‘More Than Anything Reprise’ happen when Vaggie is alone by herself or with Charlie, where she feels private and safe to be entirely herself. I think someone as guarded as Vaggie, wears a tougher shell in public but has a softer interior deep down — her different voices are just a manifestation of the two sides of her.

What made me have more faith in my theory is that Stephanie revealed at TCC that Vivienne approached her to voice Vaggie. Since Vaggie’s background did change a lot from the pilot to the series, I assume that Viv pictured a different voice for Vaggie too. An actor who has the range to deliver very different voices. Being a queer Latina is probably a plus.

What I learnt about Stephanie throughout a year catching up on her multiple works is that she does take her craft seriously. If you watch enough of her voiceover works outside Hazbin Hotel, you will know she absolutely has the ability to convey various emotions in her voice, even in that iconic gruffer Rosa Diaz voice. So the reason some people criticize that she sounds “not there” or “not putting in effort” as Vaggie is more likely due to the direction that she was given. Voiceovers are different from live-actions where actors do not get the full scripts often and do not even opposite the other actors most of the time, so they rely a lot on the voice directors giving them instructions. Again back to that Viv knows what voice she wants for her characters, I think that the very monotone performance is also intentional.

P.S. I had the thought of asking Stephanie about Vaggie’s voice acting at her TCC solo panel but the line for Q&A was too long so I settled with watching the panel at a closer distance. Maybe next time. Or wait for Viv to finally open up more about Vaggie’s changes from the pilot to the series one day *fingers crossed* (sometimes I get the weird feeling that Viv has been avoiding talking about Vaggie in depth due to spoilers)

REDESIGN AND TIME PERIODS!

SirPentious died in - 1800 / Alastor - 1933 / Nifty - 1950s / Angel Dust - 1947

So I realized unless you told people who didn't know trough streams or wikis-they wouldn't know what time period the character is from! So here have some small stuff for redesigning here! Do research, you have no idea how fun it is to design with all the big references pulled up!!

The most obvious ones are Sir Pentious and Al.

Pen talks in an old way, not actually accurate, but you would get the point. +The Napoleon outfit by the end. +Steampunk is based on 1800-1900! Besides that, him calling the female character Miss/Missy or similar also part of it. Him imidiadlty saluting blabla

His suit doesn't match old suits and seems to be stylized the usual way all the others characters with Suits. (I know Pen wants to be hip with the kids but trowing away the idea of old clothes would be crazy to do) The entirety of the 1800s has different styles each decade too, we are focused on British late 1800s. There are fun variations of clothes too! (btw, in terms of redesign, search up for accuracy videos of people enjoy that style of clothing! Or steampunk!)

But he is Steampunk! Which is even more similar to the time period, and Pen pretty much gets a washed up version of Steampunk aesthetics. Many more fun outfits are there (for inventors too!)

Alastor is easy to tell more,' 'when' he is from. His specific way of speaking is also easy recognizable. +Radio theme.

The 30's were difficult in the USA, specially for the not 1%... to casual outfits and practical compared to years before, still stylish. + there is the place where you give attention to his Radio star and being mix person in those times affects his clothing!

Angel: He does not communicate nor 40's or Mafia (why put on those themes and not used them, I understand the idea of Angel being more modern or kicked out of his mafia family but common!) + remember the possibility of drag!

Nifty: She died in 50s (her old puddle skirt was PERFECT!) There are so many iconic Hairstyles from this decade too... She would still be a maid, but she still has a style. (I don't think you can tell when she is from, even in her acting, tho).

I got inspired from other ppl doing redesigns of Hazbin characters and wanted to give a go at it. I don't watch the show but I know info about it from the internet because it's kinda hard to avoid it with it being everywhere. Like most ppl I like the fun idea of their designs but there is much left desired when taking account animation and how they stand out from one another in the background. I focused on character design in college so I'm looking at it through a designer's pov. I feel I know enough about the show to give design feedback. Even so you can still disagree with me/challenge me and be valid. Critique is how we grow as artists! We need to know how to give good criticism and how to take it ourselves :) I'll say the strengths and weaknesses of each original design and go over the changes/why

Charlie- Her original design in the show's cute but I thought she was a clown, not a demon at first. Already has a "demon form" with horns+ tail so I added those built in already. Wanted her to feel optimistic but unsure of herself. Lucifer- Original suit tells he's an over the top king, added gold shoulder pads matching the crown piece and exaggerated his shortness so now he has a Napoleon complex and takes pride from being short. Him and Charlie keep the mostly red yellow white color scheme to signify their royalty. Vaggie Vega- Unique hair shape, good for recognition. Changed name to Vega/Vegatha, sounds strong willed, better fitting for her. "X" over hair distracts from her face, put it underneath. I also made her a bit darker in value to subtly show she's a fallen angel Husker- Eyebrow game is strong, got a unique face from your typical toothy big-eyed citizens. Too many symbols that look pretty but don't make sense in his character. He's a sulky hard ass who doesn't want attention but he's got a design that's very eye-catching. I made him look lower class since he used to be an overlord and is fighting a gambling addiction. 180 color change too so you know he's a cat with owl features.

Angel Dust- Iconic floofy hair swoop. Darker suit to bring out face with a heart choker bc he's a feminine fellow after all. On that note, more pink leaning color scheme. Added abdomen for more spider theming. Dr. Pentious- His Victorian steam punk theme is fun & quirky though you can't quite see it in his design. You can't really see it in my design either cuz I was more focused on filtering out all the eyes and extra details. I would want to take this back to the board and do it over. His original top hat face distracts from his actual one so that had to go. 2 front fangs to appear more snakey. Alastor- His design works for the 1930s the decade he passed. I don't get the correlation to radio and voodoo though. The whole discourse with him being creole is messy so I scrapped it and made him a white American broadcaster to not deal with that. I made him blind with supernatural hearing abilities leaning into the sound aspect. It feels chilling knowing he hears your every move, emotion and heartbeat like the warden from Minecraft. Deer and orange fox themed for a dual nature. Vox- This idea of a tech savvy con man is super fun. Made his persona charming and eccentric, being able to appear friendly while being sketchy as f. His body is made of wires too with his teeth resembling the shock waves on his hat. Kept the pinstripes for a wirey feel.

I also did some Helluva Boss redesigns too! I think Helluva designs deliver pretty well (besides Queen Bee) so I more or so redesigned them based off my own head cannons. I used to watch the show but fell off around halfway of S2 bc I wasn't vibing with the direction of the story. Octavia- Young entrepreneur, takes after her father and mother being snobby and looks down at lower classes who she sees as less intelligent than high class. Very creative in problem solving. Millie- I like her og clothes alot. Those overalls are chic. This outfit is what she'd wear out in the field when she's working for IMP or at the farm. She and Loona fight alot about who works harder and Loona having an attitude problem towards everyone. Sallie Mae- Not much change other than white hair and removed eyelashes. I might want to make her shirt dark muted blue instead. I gave her a backstory how she ran away from toxic masculinity parents and eventually gets hired at IMP as a spy.

Loona- Emo to the extremo. She's originally goth but I got emo from her I'm sorry she just doesn't look goth. She's very lax when it comes to her job and slacks off constantly. She still does it well despite not working as hard as Millie, Moxxie or Blitz. She's strict but means well and cares for ppl around her. She also gets adopted at age 14 in my head cannon.

Bee- 180 change completely. She's a thick queen! Made her black coded with more stripes cuz she's a BEE. I don't get why Vivienne didn't give her stripes bc that's a design thing she uses so much and she doesn't use it in a character whose name is BEE? What??? anyway her design is still complex but simplified and uncluttered for animation so the animators can have pleasant dreams. She's the child of Beelzebub and a hell hound. So that's my take on Hazbin/Helluva character design! This was fun re imagining not only the characters but the story itself. I may write a fan fiction but i dunno right now. I respect the original source material which is something I feel everyone needs to acknowledge when they do a redesign of anything. There are things I don't like about the original and that's ok! That's part of why I did the redesigns. That being said I don’t support Vivziepop :)

Christmas headcanons

CHRISTMAS MUSIC PLAYING, FIREPLACE BLAZING AND A SHIT TON OF GIFTS AROUND THE TREE.

Now Hellborn celebrate sinmas, Celebrating their sin, and Charlie is hellborn, so she's alot more prideful that day, taking pride in how beautiful the hotel looks, taking pride in how she got everyone gifts that they like! Taking pride in how tasty the gingerbread cookies she made came out etc

Now I imagine some sinners possibly partake but most just celebrate good ol' regular Christmas!

Charlie made sure everyone got everyone something.

She got Alastor a radio, her dad a duck themed item, Vaggie a new bow and some other items, Angel some matching pajamas for him and fat nuggets, a poker set for Husk, Niffy cleany supplies, she got you the number one gift on your wishlist, extra gifts for everyone else

Alastor gave everyone gifts that they'd like with an insult added to it, minus Lucifer he got a nearly decapitated duck.

Angel dust mostly gave gag gifts

Husk got so, so many shot glasses

Niffty kept scurrying around to pick up all the wrapping paper, you had to catch her with a butterfly net so she could open up her own gifts, which she preceded to use.

There was only so much cinnamon candles can do to cover up the smell of chemicals.

There are Christmas movies playing as everyone's messing around with their Christmas stuff.

Someone makes everyone hot chocolate to drink as they lay around relaxing from the holiday.

Alastor makes a brown sugar glazed ham, Angel dust refuses to eat it on solidarity of Fat Nuggets, who unlike his owner has no qualms about eating his own kind.

There was mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallow on it, regular mashed potatoes, Mac n' cheese, lasagna, spaghetti, cheesecake, figgy pudding, fruitcake, any type of food you could think of really!

Someone put on the Adam Sandler's eight crazy nights, frank the egg Boi just kept singing the bum bum biddy song.

It's not a Christmas movie but it is iconic

Minus Alastor and Lucifer having to be broken up by Charlie because they were trying to kill each other.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!!

After watching the trailer 10x times, I wanted to share my thoughts on it, and the changes!!

Aka mun takes this as a chance to ramble about Hazbin Hotel-

Spoiler warning for the HH trailer under the cut!!

Okay, here we go!

I'm sad to see the og voices go, but now that we've been able to hear the new ones, I'm not as disappointed. Alastor, Husk, and Vox's new voices(i know Vox never REALLY had a voice, but i mean the iconic fan made one) threw me off guard HARD. And not in a bad way!! I like Alastor’s, it's more upbeat, yet it can also be intimidating like how Edward's was. Husk's voice is a BIG change!! I do like how it's now more smooth sounding, although it's still a bit difficult to match the voice to the face. Vox's voice made me cackle. I adore how it sounds, and it makes him hard "I'm better than you" nerd vibes. Or John Mulaney.

The updated animation and artstyle is BEAUTIFUL!!! Everything looks so clean and smooth, it's truly amazing what the HH team has done. MAJOR props to them!!

The fact we have yet to hear Sir Pentious is a bit concerning, but also exciting. It's been revealed his VA will be Alex Brightman, which is a bit strange that have yet to hear him. But we'll definitely be hearing him in the show!

I'm sorry I have to ramble about the stupid ass deer man- I'm very excited to see whether he plays the belated villain or if he's fighting alongside Charlie! As he says in the trailer, "It's time I remind everyone why I'm here" followed by a clip of him going (assumably) full/near full Radio Demon. Although it's not clarified whether he's talking to Charlie, the entirely of Hell, or to Lucifer/Adam. I can't wait to see how he acts in the show, and how/if he makes relationships/friendships with the others! Remember, he's the Radio Demon. He's an asshole- It also intrigues me that when it shows him using his powers, it looks like he's melting a bit. Either way, in quote of Alastor himself, "This is going to be very entertaining!"

Charlie and Vaggie are adorable together. But it does look like they're going to have some struggles in the show with maybe their relationship. Probably- based on what we've seen in the pilot and the clips for the series, Vaggie is very skeptical about Charlie's whole plan, while Charlie just wants her to trust in her.

All in all, I cannot WAIT to watch Hazbin Hotel, and see where these characters and story lead!
