Side note, but I LOVE writing for Charles, especially when he's contrasted with all of the boys. A normal human man in a business suit stands next to the biggest natural disaster to ever strike this mortal plane, more at 11:00

Post canon, back in London, I can absolutely see Edwin and Charles haunting Crystal's mom into being a better parent a la "A Christmas Carol". Edwin tries diplomacy first and just gives her the heads up that she can choose to do better herself, or else his partner will use his own methods.
Two weeks later when she fails to call her daughter, Charles shows up at whatever museum she's trying to set up in and is just like "I heard most of the stuff in British Museums was stolen anyway. It would be a shame if the last person the cameras saw in the same room as this stuff was you." She tries to call his bluff until he demonstrates that his backpack CAN in fact hold every item in the room, and he's ready to mirror hop to Greece with it if she doesn't ask Crystal out to dinner for impromptu girl's night.
Oh? You're busy tonight? Oh look, the Chinese exhibit. He hasn't been to China yet. He could drop off some stolen goods there too.

Imagining this within the first week of Charles and Edwin knowing each other. Charles has helped Edwin catch up on a BIT of what’s happened in the last 70 years, but Edwin can tell that Charles’ knowledge and strengths are not in history (finding out there was an even worse world war right after The Great War was certainly horrific though). So Edwin decides his best bet is to look in the public archives. Charles is sitting in the room with him absolutely bored out of his skull when he comments “Wow, you weren’t joking about not being great at people, were you?”
To which Edwin’s patience runs out, and he snidely responds, “Evidently not. If my researching the events of the last seventy years is so off-putting to you, then you can leave.”
Edwin was expecting some kind of token protest, but instead Charles just hops up, and says, “Cheers mate. See you.” Then LEAVES. Just like that. Edwin would like to be offended, but he supposes he did tell Charles to go. He just thought there would have been more to it than that? It almost feels…anticlimactic. At least he and Charles barely knew each other. Better to cut their losses now than get attached. Even as he thinks it he can’t help but feel maybe he was already growing attached.
So he spends the whole day digging through the archive and he learns so much about the past half century. It’s amazing and daunting just how much as changed. No wonder Charles hadn’t been able to go over even a fraction of it. It’s like the world is a completely different place.
He’s engrossed in his research when a head pops in through the door, and violently startles him with a cheerful, “Hey mate!” Edwin doesn’t have a heartbeat, but if he did it would be running a mile a minute from that fright. Charles is just grinning as he walks through the door. “I have to say, that’s my favourite part of being dead so far. I can just walk through walls.” Charles continues to chat happily, completely oblivious to Edwin’s shock.
Eventually Edwin gains enough of his senses back to interrupt Charles and say, “You came back.”
Charles just cocks his head, but he’s still smiling. “Yeah bruv. You’ve been here ALL DAY. The sun’s started going down. I know we don’t need to eat or sleep, but I figure you should take a break. Plus all the people playing football at the park left, so I got bored.”
Edwin doesn’t quite know what to say to that. He’s still working on the fact Charles came back. Charles hadn’t planned on leaving in any permanent way. He just went to do his own thing while Edwin did his. Yet instead of anything intelligent coming out of his mouth, he says “Football?”
“Oh c’mon! I know you had football even a thousand years ago. Yeah, I went to play with some other guys at the park across the street.”
Edwin snorts at that, and isn’t that a strange and wonderful feeling, laughing after all this time. He doesn’t even know if he did it often before he went to Hell, but here Charles has been making him laugh on and off for the week they’ve known each other. “Yes, we had football. You’ll have to explain how you managed to play a team sport without being seen by either team. You are right though. If it’s getting dark out, they’ll be turning the lights out in here soon. We might as well leave for the day.”
“Cheers. Mostly it involved messing with the ball so it went the wrong way when they kicked it. Oh! I kicked one over a fence. Do you think we can go grab it? How about your day? Learn anything exciting?”
Edwin leads them out, and now in a much better mood he shares something he thinks Charles will enjoy. “As a matter of fact, there was quite a lot about how music evolved, and styles from the Americas really took off since the 20s.”

mmfhfgd charles who lifts your shirt up to kiss your stomach and lay on it when he’s sleepy
IM GOING TO EXPLODE NONNIE LOVE 😵‍💫😵‍💫 no because when charles is sleepy , he is so insanely cuddly and sappy with you . you know he’s feeling tired when his words become mumbled and he’s just responding “mhm” to each and every thing that you’re saying . he’ll sit up and just shuffle until he’s level with your stomach , tenderly lifting the fabric of your shirt to place a short , sweet peck there . his stubble tickles the skin and charles can tell by the way your stomach tenses a little , but he’s already resting his cheek against your skin , humming in satisfaction as he gets himself all comfortable and your hand comes to rest in his hair

It is time to hurt you all again with one of my first thoughts I had when I joined this fandom. It starts with Charles' parents right after he died. Charles' mum looking through photos of Charles for the funeral, and she finds the classic baby photo of baby Charles sleeping on his sleeping dad's bare chest. She's been barely holding it together, but this is what sets her off. This is what has her screaming at her husband for the first time. THIS is the man she married! THIS is the father to her baby boy! Her baby boy is dead, but where has THAT MAN been for all these years? How could THAT MAN have hurt her son?
She's crying and yelling, and shoving the photo in his face. She's been trying to hold it together for much longer than the week since Charles died, and this is everything coming out at once. Charles' dad would normally snap in anger, but that photo - he takes one look and everything hits him too. His son is dead. His baby boy is dead and not coming back. Before that, he hurt Charles, and over WHAT? He made his son afraid of him, and now he'll never have the chance to make up for it. He's crying too, and this is the worst way it could have happened, but maybe now is the chance for him to change.

Today's brief DBD thought is what if Charles lived, but obviously came out able to see ghosts. So he can see Edwin and convinces his new ghost friend to stick around. Edwin knows this is a bad idea, but Charles is a breath of fresh air compared to his life and death so far.
I have more thoughts about the boys each learning different kinds of magic together, but in the meantime all of this setup is for this line
"Is it really cheating to have your ghost best friend help you pass your A-levels?"
"Yes, Charles. It is."

charles is the kind of guy to act like he’s about to go down on you, slowly making his way down so that his head is positioned in between your thighs, and all of a sudden he blows a raspberry on your thigh. he’d look up at you with the dorkiest grin ever you almost want to punch that beautiful face
he’s such a little shit you’re so right babe !!! you’ll be lazily kissing when he begins to mouth at your jaw , slowly making his way down from your collar to your abdomen , even nipping at the flesh of your hip before he finally positions himself in between your legs . when he finally gets to your thighs , your eyes are screwed shut in anticipation , waiting to feel him where you want him most . but then ? nothing . because your stupid boyfriend thinks he’s funny , and so blows a raspberry onto the skin of your inner thigh . your eyes snap open and you look down at him in disbelief , and he’s grinning back at you like he’s the funniest fucker to walk the earth , stifled chuckles fighting their way out from behind his lips .

Calliope, Muse of Epic Poetry
Artist: Charles Meynier (French, 1768-1832)
Date: 1798
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Genre: Mythological Painting
Location: Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio
In Greek mythology, Calliope is the muse of epic poetry, eloquence, music, song, and dance. She is the eldest of the nine muses, the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and is often depicted as their leader. Calliope is known for inspiring great poets throughout history, including Homer, Virgil, Ovid, and Dante Alighieri, and was often called upon for help when they were writing. She is also said to have given the gift of eloquence to kings and princes.
Calliope's name literally means "beautiful-voiced" and she is often depicted in art carrying a writing tablet and stylus, or with a lyre. She is also sometimes depicted with grapes, an aulos (an ancient Greek musical instrument), or panpipes, which may refer to her role as an agricultural goddess.
Calliope is also said to have been the mother of Orpheus, the most famous musician in Greek mythology. In some accounts, she is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and has siblings including Euterpe, Polyhymnia, Urania, Clio, Erato, Thalia, Terpsichore, and Melpomene. She may also have had two sons with the god Apollo, Hymen and Ialemus, and may have been the mother of Rhesus, king of Thrace, or Linus, the inventor of melody and rhythm.
Calliope first appeared in Greek mythology around 700 BCE in Homer's The Iliad and continued to appear until around the ninth century.
