I realized that Ratohnhaké:ton's story is another level of tragedy and trauma, but he had encouraging figures along the way. AC3 is as much a story of community and the village raising the child as it is about fighting to protect that village (figuratively and literally).
Imagine watching your mother burn to death in front of you after being attacked by a bunch of men in the woods when you're fucking four years old; that alone would have me killing and eating people. That level of trauma is enough to set anyone on a maladapted path rife with severe emotional development roadblocks.
But no. He grew up to be -- yes, stoic, traumatized -- driven for the rest of his life by tragedy, but instead of becoming numb to it or becoming part of it, he fights to prevent it. He keeps an open mind toward others' ideology. It doesn't stop him from forming meaningful bonds. Knowing that Haytham sent him to die didn't stop him from wanting the chance to work with his father.
It's because of those around him.
It's in the narrative from before he speaks his first word. Kaniehtí:io shares her fear that her clan would treat him differently because of his heritage, because his existence is formed on taboo that she broke -- but they don't. They love him all the same. The first inkling of his existence is unconditional love.
After she dies, we don't see the rebuilding of the village, but we do see his candid conversations with Kanen'tó:kon and Oía:ner. Once more, nothing about their interactions conveys anything but trust. He shares his fears with them. Oía:ner agrees that he find Achilles, despite her wariness of breaking their semi-isolationist policy. Kanen'tó:kon keeps his spot in the longhouse open for him. A longhouse they rebuilt from the ashes of their burned kin. All signs of people who held each other up as they recovered from a tragedy.
Even up until Ratohnhaké:ton starts attacking his clanmates, Oía:ner greets him with nothing but welcome, and expresses that she considered and followed his direction by letting Kanen'tó:kon work with Charles Lee.
Don't get me started on Achilles. I know parts of the fandom talk about how he discourages Ratohnhaké:ton at several points, might have manipulated him by getting him involved with the Assassin-Templar conflict, and how they can't go through a single scene without arguing, but the one thing that transcends every one of them is that Achilles does treat him as his own son. Lessons, guidance, discouragement against what he thinks is folly, keeping the door open for him -- all of it.
And Robert Faulkner taking his kid under his wing and teaching him the ropes, entrusting his Aquila with him into adulthood. Sailing with him through a war, even when the fucker wants to ram a bunch of man-o-wars and bombard a goddamn fort. What a madman, Robert Faulkner probably thinks, let's fucking GO. He helped groom this kid into leadership, with a whole-ass crew that would readily follow him into the madness.
(Also, I don't like praising white people for doing the bare minimum of not treating BIPOC like shit, but like. In a world where it inevitably happens and the colonists know Ratohnhaké:ton on sight as "half-breed," Faulkner did That too.)
Ratohnhaké:ton is met with tragedy from young in so many ways that could have easily turned him into someone who's like Haytham at best. He could have been a master manipulator, a man who follows the Order even after losing his faith in it, the kind of man who kills in front of children, whose greatest act of kindness was not letting his son die. Or God forbid, something worse. But because of the village, what came out was compassion.

The word nigga… comes from niger Africa…( there previous history there I’ll download later) ya racist Americans come to Africa Nelson times make him and ghandi stand differently like Martin and Malcom but say they’re for the same thing …

But ya issues is … “oh I saw myself in here and COMPLETELY FORGOT IM NOT DIAGNOSING MYSELF ITA MY PATIENT IM HELPING” … which then means ya gon turn ur client into an experiment “I’m too professional to leave my job or scared to ask you questions so I’ll be fickle and get what I want my way w my degree” … instead of saying ya no what..
Like surgeon in ER AND POLICE AND JUDGE .. WHEN LEGAL “ ur family I can’t work so close to ur case”
ITS REASONS FOR THAT HIPPA VIOLATION YA LET YA EMOTIONS GOVERN WHEN YA NOT IN A STEADY PLACE TO DISCIPLINE THEM… Lee
“Fuck if I see myself in these behaviors are the outsiders going to think it’s me I’m talking about when I talk shit about cashay and work soooo damn hard to do dirt in her name… how do I AT ANY MEANS PUSH IT OFF OF ME AND ONTO ANYONE??” …

Ya need vacation alone time sit w you… monks journey ya learn who’s who and what’s what ya twins ya close but share a weird … “grudge” inside might be wrong word but tension ya gotta be alike all the time … Lee industry thinking and Beyoncé “it’ll make you cool but get a little freedom be more you” … but he’s ur filter… filmer.. but phone on ground and dance boys .. girl… spend time alone more often … ya telecommunicate even from far UR ONE PERSON SPLIT … that’s a different topic

TIFFANY VALENTINE
tiffany is originally from the child’s play franchise.
please be advised that this version is COMPLETELY canon divergent. the way she’s portrayed and treated in the franchise is , for lack of a better word , disheartening. i’m here to fix that.
tiffany was born to relatively wealthy parents in a suburb on the outside of chicago , illinois. being brought up in society , the former redhead participated in pageants and even had a coming out party when she was 15 years old. she was a good girl , for the most part , until she turned 16. she fell into the wrong type of crowd and started experimenting both with drugs and sexually. she found that things that excited her wasn’t anything like what the boys her age were interested in. she acquired a fake ID and started visiting clubs and parties that were held by college students. she’d had a relatively boring childhood , now she wanted excitement!
when she was 17 years old , she met a man who was in his mid twenties at a party hosted in his apartment complex. although at their first meeting , he would not speak to her , tiffany set her sights on the young charles lee ray. there was something about him , something that spoke to parts of her that you couldn’t touch with your hands. he was dangerous. he was delicious.
after eyeing each other across several more parties , charles lee ray finally approached her. they flirted for a while , danced , and drank together before he invited her back to his own apartment. once there , while undressing her , the man admitted to having a girlfriend to see how she would react. she paused for a moment , thinking it over , before asking if she’d like to join them.
from then on , the two became inseparable - very rarely was one seen without the other - yet , for the first few months of their relationship , charles was killing behind tiffany’s back. one night when tiffany had been visiting her mother , chucky had brought one of his victims back to the apartment and was in the middle of dismembering her when she walked in the door.
rather than run away screaming , the sight had a different effect on her. dropping to her knees , she began to help her man with his task. this went on for almost four years , from the time tiffany was 17 until she’d turned 21. they lived together , they killed together , and tiffany was in love.
she’d introduced chucky to her mother a few times , but neither got along with the other very well. tiffany’s mother was prim and proper and chucky was anything but. during one of their many arguments , chucky was pushed past the edge of his patience and ended up killing tiffany’s mother. this was near the end of their four year run.
while she was obviously devastated at her mother’s demise , she loved chucky too much to not forgive him. days after the funeral , tiffany came home to their apartment to find a ring left on the mantle. she took it as his version of an apology , this not being the first time he’d left jewelry in the place of a conversation , and put it on her finger. she wouldn’t take it off for the next decade.
that night while cleaning up the apartment in anticipation of chucky’s return , there was a knock at the door. she was the next of kin and charles had been killed. she was dragged into the police station and questioned , but she was convincing enough and her mother’s name was important enough , they let her go with their condolences.
for the next decade , tiffany’s thirst for blood just wasn’t the same. she still killed , sometimes for money more than the fun of it , and mourned the love of her life.
she knew that he toyed with the idea of voodoo and resurrection , and while she didn’t really believe in most of it , she knew he did so she began to do as much research as she could. over the years , she heard the stories about a doll being possessed by the lakeshore strangler. it would take a long while to find him , but she would be ready to bring him back when she did.
― the events of bride of chucky occur here , approximately five months after the events of child’s play 3 , and for the most part are all canon ―
i don’t follow the idea that somehow chucky and tiffany managed to conceive glen / glenda while in doll form or create a body inside tiffany for glen / glenda to exist in. in all honesty , i think seed of chucky is offensive and none of that is included in my canon.
if a glen / glenda exists and wants to write with me , i am happy to plot a version in which they are conceived by human bodies and born to tiffany in whatever human body she inhabits , but dolls creating dolls isn’t real here.
when it comes to curse / cult ― whether or not charles was in love with sarah or not doesn’t really matter here. tiffany’s feelings don’t change and she was aware that he sometimes slept around. kidnapping sarah and the damage done to nica happens the same day that charles is gunned down.
as of right now , none of the show is canon. as i do a rewatch , i’ll add more in if i see fit , but for now none of it is canon. situations from the show can be plotted and become an arc on this blog.
short and sweet verses :
alternate verse 1 , takes place 3 ― 4 years before the first child’s play movie. tiffany is unavailable for full shipping with anyone but a charles / chucky. she will flirt , she will have crushes , but it’s chucky for her. she is beginning to toy with the idea of killing but she’s not sure if she’s good at it yet. faceclaim for this verse is dove cameron.
alternate verse 2 , takes place during the decade in which chucky is dead / possessing the good guy doll. tiffany is obsessed with him and clips articles from the newspaper to keep up with whatever he’s doing. she’s also learning everything she can about voodoo and possession. faceclaim for this verse is both dove cameron and young jennifer filly. tiffany is available for shipping , but it will take a slow burn or a lot of work to get her to open up and forget about chucky.
main verse , after the events of bride of chucky , tiffany’s soul was possessing the belle doll. she was taken from an evidence locker in hackensack , new jersey , and sold to an overzealous fan of all things macabre and horrible. he put her , among other items , on display in his torture chamber of a home. after witnessing him do horrible things to a woman he brought home , tiffany attacked him and switched her soul with that of his unwilling guest. she and chucky were not sold together and as of right now , she doesn’t know where he is but she knows she needs to find him. shipping is available , and a bit more loose , in this verse and my faceclaim for this verse is sabrina carpenter
more of course to be added as it comes up.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In hindsight, it's definitely got its issues, but this is the book that made me fall in love with classic literature in 7th grade. The symbolism holy shit. The layers. I don't know if I'd recommend it to others anymore - certainly not as a book about racism when there's so many others that are better and actually written by people of color. It is well-written and a solid book about coming of age, but again, many other books do that well and perhaps better.
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I read this in high school. It taught me that 150 year-old books can still be fucking hilarious and I'm still not over that discovery. It also continually blew my mind with imagery and metaphors, like holy shit, you can do THAT with words?! To me this book kind of symbolizes falling in love with literature again, a point in my life where I was starting to have energy and motivation to read stuff like this outside of school.
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This is a modern classic in environmental studies, and I cannot imagine who I would be without it, as an environmental scientist or as a person. This is a book about hope, about completely altering the ways we interact with the world, to view non-human life as neighbors and friends, even kin, instead something lesser than us. If you've ever thought that maybe humans are just irredeemably bad at peaceful coexistence, I am begging you to read just one chapter of this book, because it will prove to you that you're wrong. We haven't always been this way, we still aren't universally this way, and it doesn't have to keep being the norm. This book also taught me that being able to imagine a better future is a key step to building one. This is not a niche book for environmentalists, although Kimmerer is a botany professor - this is a book for everyone.
A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold- this is a foundational text in ecology and environmental ethics, and it's still just as relevant today as when it was written - in nineteen fucking forty-nine! Leopold just gets what it's like to care about the natural world in a way people around you don't, and his perspectives on it turned my world upside down in the best possible way.
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. This is one of those books that makes me feel like my brain has been turned inside out and the way I see the world is never gonna be the same. It's a case study in medical anthropology, but reads like a novel, and I am warning you right now it will break your heart. It's about the ways people in different cultures perceive 'illness,' what happens when very different cultures meet in the context of healthcare, how we can try to understand and accommodate each others' differences, and, tragically, what happens when those attempts fail.
White Lies About The Inuit. This is just a really good book that I would encourage all non-Inuit people to read, because it will teach you all the dumb stereotypes you didn't know lived in your brain, then deconstruct where they came from, why they're wrong, and what you ought to know instead. If you've ever heard someone say 'the Inuit have 50 words for snow', wondered why the term Es*mo is controversial, or just really wanted to see some dead anthropologists get shamed for being racist pieces of shit, this is the book for you. As an anthropology student, it's a really excellent lesson in questioning our predecessors, even the most respected ones.
Happy Monday! Bookish question of the week: what is one book that changed you, how so, and would you recommend it to others?

My name is Samuel Seabury, and I’m here with a few things about my canon!
- it was a modern setting, everyone was in college.
- my canon would fall under urban fanatasy, I don’t remember many humans at the college
- I remember being an angelic being, though I wasn’t very religious.
- I roomed with (Charles) Lee, who was a wolf shifter who couldn’t handle a lot of noise, George Frederick III, a vampire who was semi-distant royalty who came from a wealthy family, and (James) Reynolds, who was a fae
- We kicked Reynolds the Fuck out of our dorm when we found out he was abusing his girlfriend and my adoptive sister. Burr, who was human, ended up moving in instead
- Mariah (Lewis) was a siren, and she was my adoptive sister. She loved going to karaoke with all of her friends
- I had a huge crush on Lafayette, but I don’t remember if I acted on it or not
- (John) Laurens and (Hercules) Mulligan were both humans, while Alexander (Hamilton) was a mer-shifter and Lafayette was vampire. They all roomed down the hall from us.
- Lee and Burr were dating.
- The Schuyler Sisters all shared a room. The three were all adopted siblings. Angelica was a genderfluid witch, Eliza was a nonbinary Druid, and Peggy was a transfeminine Angel.
- The Washington’s were Alexander and John’s adoptive parents, Martha (Washington) was a selkie and George (Washington) was an Immortal
- The college has an annual fair that always ended up with someone in the hospital, wether it be from alcohol poisoning, getting in fights, or getting in some form of accident.
- Mariah and I would host girls nights with the Schuyler’s and we would paint each other’s nails and talk about stuff while old movies played in the background.
- I used any pronouns, but checked off ‘Male’ when gender was required
- There was a bit of tension between humans and non-humans, but it was only a little and rarely caused any big drama where we were
That’s all I have at the moment, but I’ll probably add more eventually as I remember more stuff!
