Body Hopping Your Way to Immortality

So it's a trope in weird fiction to have wealthy people/sorcerers/necromancers, etc. body-hop their way to immortality, sometimes replying on relatives and descendants to supply the bodies. Charles Dexter Ward and The Thing on the Doorstep are the earliest versions of this I can think of, Tumblr. Are there others that are older (not Lovecraft)? Are there non-HPL variations that aren't older but are from the pulp era?

Hey, so apparently the previous version of this poll used AI art as an image. I didn't know this. Thanks to all the people in the comments for alerting me. I must also thank you for accidentally sending me down a rabbit hole. See, I just pulled the picture of Randolph Carter from the H.P. Lovecraft Wiki. This was the first picture that came up, so I figured it was in some capacity official and didn't inspect it closely. Upon inspecting the wiki closer, I found that a number of the images on the H.P. Lovecraft Wiki are AI generated.

All of these images are credited to a user named Hrairoo, who seems to be producing these AI-generated images en masse. If you're looking for art of Lovecraft characters, be careful, or you might get Hrairoo'd!

Murray Tinkelman - The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, 1976.

I got reminded of Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure game which is one of the rare examples of mixing Dracula's and Lovecraft's lore. It's a humorous point-and-click game based on Cthulhu Mythos with truly gorgeous animation by Romanian creators.

One of its parts takes place in Transylvania and there is a castle with Dracula's ancestor (or "ancestor"?) in it. When I first played it I completely forgot about Dracula's cameo in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and thought the creators were just self-indulgent (I think they are even specifically from Transylvania?) but no, it was, like most of the game, based on something from Lovecraft.

You must rap battle him to pass through. Yes, seriously. I love that "turning alcoholics into caffeine addicts" is something that happens in the game. That's some deep Lovecraft (the man) lore.
