I once wrote a (cheesy) fanfic in which Bourbon France said he would like to see a portrait of Bourbon Spain holding a portrait miniature of him.
Because this kind of act shows people that they are married and they are a powerful couple. It also looks magnificent to hang on their walls.
So… I commissioned this painting to make his (and mine) dream come true.
Commissioned from Tree by me (please do not re-upload without my permission).

15/xx Daniel Dumontsier, Le Duc de Boukinkan, 1625, BN Paris
Another souvenir from George’s trip to Paris in May 1625 for Charles and Henrietta’s proxy wedding. Despite what horrible histories told you, he was not the proxy groom - that was one of Charles’s French cousins.
Although the trip to Paris was a hit socially - the stunt with the Pearl suit had the intended effect and there was a type of hat named after him - but he did not get the guarantees from Richelieu and Louis XIII for a joint campaign against the Habsburg to return the Palatine to Elector Frederick, who was languishing in exile at The Hague with Elizabeth and their vast brood of children.
There were also delays getting out of France due to various people getting ill and delays with papal dispensation and the presentation of papal honours to Henrietta Maria. This led to the first big clash between George and his new queen, and set the antagonistic tone for their working and personal relationship going forward.
However what everyone remembers is the business in the garden at Amiens with Anne. What actually happened is honestly a mystery and there has been a lot of scandal and romantic fantasy surrounding this since. Anne was of course the one who bore the brunt of this - when she was introduced to Cardinal Mazarin years later by Richelieu it was with the words “Madame you’ll like him, he looks just like Buckingham.” This also gave George the nickname “Fuckingham” one both sides of the channel.
Well done George, you only had one job and you couldn’t even do that properly.

Made the mistake of going in the Vaslav Nijinsky tag to find the usual defending of sexual predators like Sergei Diaghilev. If anyone bothered to read his diary, Vaslav made it very clear himself that he is a HETEROSEXUAL man who was FORCED to have sex with these predatory men in order to save himself and his mother from starvation.
People claim to have respect for him and many other historical figures but then can't even respect their sexuality, religion, beliefs, etc...
Lets not forget the many other victims of Sergei Diaghilev and other predatory men throughout the ages who used their power to take advantage of others who were desperate. It still happens today.
Lets also not forget the bi-erasure that I constantly see happening on this website.
If you don't respect the sexuality or gender of the people I post about on this blog and say they are lgbt just for "funsies", or you like calling a historical figure autistic or put on them any other label for which you have no evidence for just because you have put said label on yourself and find it "relatable", do not interact with me or my blog.
I rarely make my own posts now because of this. When I post about Louis XIII, a man I respect tremendously, it saddens me to see it being reblogged and liked by people who "ship" him with someone that was very much a father figure to him. Louis wasn't an anime character, he was a real person, with beliefs and morals that people who claim to like him, completely disrespect constantly.
I believe in freedom of speech, so you can ship these people and call them all kinds of labels (i admit some of them are funny unless you claim them as fact) but not whilst using my posts.

Loyal brothers
The Capetian kings found their brothers no more difficult than their sons. The exceptions were the brothers of Henri I, Robert and Eudes, but thereafter the younger Capetians developed a tradition of loyalty to their elders. Robert of Dreux, the brother of Louis VII, who was the focus of a feudal revolt in 1149, was only a partial exception, for at that date the king was still in the East, and the real object of the hostility was the regent Suger. By contrast, Hugh of Vermandois was described by contemporaries as the coadjutor of his brother, Philip I. St Louis's brothers, Robert of Artois, Alphonse of Poitiers, and Charles of Anjou, never caused him any difficulties, and the same can be said of Peter of Alençon and Robert of Clermont in the reign of their brother Philip III. Even the disturbing Charles of Valois, with his designs on the crowns of Aragon and Constantinople, was always a faithful servant to his brother Philip the Fair, and to the latter's sons. The declaration which he made when on the point of invading Italy in the service of the Pope is revealing:
"As we propose to go to the aid of the Church of Rome and of our dear lord, the mighty prince Charles, by the grace of God King of Sicily, be it known to all men that, as soon as the necessities of the same Church and King shall be, with God's help, in such state that we may with safety leave them, we shall then return to our most dear lord and brother Philip, by the grace of God King of France, should he have need of us. And we promise loyally and in all good faith that we shall not undertake any expedition to Constantinople, unless it be at the desire and with the advice of our dear lord and brother. And should it happen that our dear lord and brother should go to war, or that he should have need of us for the service of his kingdom, we promise that we shall came to him, at his command, as speedily as may be possible, and in all fitting state, to do his will. In witness of which we have given these letters under our seal. Written at Saint-Ouen lès Saint-Denis, in the year of Grace one thousand and three hundred, on the Wednesday after Candlemas."
This absence of such sombre family tragedies as Shakespeare immortalised had a real importance. In a society always prone to anarchy the monarchy stood for a principle of order, even whilst its material and moral resources were still only slowly developing. Respectability and order in the royal family were prerequisites, if the dynasty was to establish itself securely.

"Courtilz never gives Milady’s name. Instead, she is referred to simply as ‘Milady’ followed by a dash or asterisks where her name should be. She is introduced as a maid of honour to Henrietta Maria, queen to the executed Charles I of England, whose exile in France Milady shares."
