#charisma as a real life special effect

A really good actor can evince this on command (or perhaps it’s more that they know how to disguise it the rest of the time?) Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death positively radiates this sort of goodness.
Aurora Aksnes manages to do this, as do a couple of artists of my acquaintance, when you walk up on them as they’re lost in their work. I think it’s something often about seeing someone at play. Lots of people feel this way when you get to know their minds, but with a few it’s just palpably shining off them as soon as they move, on first sight.
Charisma is shown in motion.
do you ever see a person and you are overcome with incredible fondness? and you just think "oh." but not in a romantic or sexual way you are just filled with warmth and it makes you happy, it just does. and you think "i'm so happy you exist. i'm happy you are somewhere out there in the world, doing your thing". it's love but also not entirely
like people are lovely and i feel it in my entire chest like a burning candle that smells like roses and a sunny day

In short, I thought about it most of the night and made some notes on my phone.
I'm still translating part 3, but while I'm on vacation and have enough free time, I want to write headcannons.
specifically the jealous Leon. He is almost forty and his girlfriend is just over twenty. Don't get me wrong. I share moderate jealousy and excessive jealousy. For me, these are different things, so "WARNING! if you don't like reading this, just skip this post.
You have an absolutely healthy relationship (as far as possible with Leon's psyche). You don't give him any reason to doubt your loyalty to him.
He considers himself too "old" for all these hangouts, preferring to spend time in peace and stability after a long mission, but you are a young girl who wants to have fun with friends from time to time (among which there are guys).
Leon has nothing against your entertainment and does not interfere with communication with others. Although, some selfish part of him wants you to spend more time with him, but he won't talk about it out loud.
Of course, he understands that others may like you too. You see, Leon still doesn't understand what you saw in him when you could date someone of your peers. It all started as a silly joke, and then you both wanted more from communicating with each other. And it's not just about sex.
You took care of Leon when you stayed at his place overnight, and in the morning you made breakfast with coffee, asking if you brewed it too hard. And while Leon is having breakfast, you always kiss him on the back of the head. Something that Ada or anyone else has never done.
After that, the cute attentions from you mean too much to Leon. He is a bit old-fashioned and will probably ask for official consent if you want to be in a relationship with him, despite his frequent absence and age difference.
“Do I need to sign some kind of agreement? Like, yes, I agree on all points to become your girlfriend? Signature and today's date?“ - You laugh with Leon, adjusting the shirt you stole from him in the morning when he says that he does not have such a paper and an oral agreement will be enough.
Leon will in no way publicly cover his personal life because of his work. Putting you in potential danger is not what he wants at all. Yes, he is happy to spend time with you, but if someone asks him about your relationship, he will say that there is nothing serious about it. Just a girl who agreed to spend the night with him. And only the closest (and there are almost no such people at all, so the circle narrows down to Claire, Helena and, perhaps, then Hannigan) will know about his real attitude towards you.
He also likes to take care of you. In general, he will gladly take a shower with you, soaping his head with shampoo after which he makes funny hairstyles so that he can laugh with you about it later.
He takes care of you if you have a painful period / you have a cold / just not in the mood. To show reciprocal care for a partner is a joy to him.
He won't show any signs of jealousy until you tell him that the main character of the movie/series is too gorgeous and you wouldn't mind marrying him.
Of course it's a joke. He understands it himself, but it hurt him unpleasantly.
It will never go to the point of absurdity. It's just that Leon doesn't quite like it when he accidentally sees you in correspondence with a friend discussing some cute actor/model/singer or other public personality admiring his beauty and charisma.
"Come on, he's not that good!" - in the end, he can't stand it when he's already in bed with you.
“Who?" - You ask innocently, stupidly blinking your eyes and looking straight at Leon.
“That guy from the movie. You can't do this trick in real life, it's a fucking special effect. And anyway, you don't like him, but the one he plays. I doubt he's ever held a real gun in his life.”
After that, Leon will lie down on the other side, leaving you completely perplexed.
It's stupid to be jealous of the handsome guy from the movie, he knows it himself. He just thinks that his age can still become an obstacle to your relationship, especially when he is often not at home and he is so much attached to you.
However, if some brat decides to start flirting with you thinking that "a lonely young girl needs company" Leon will immediately appear out of nowhere grabbing you by the waist and taking you with him.
At the same time, he will send a scathing look to the man.
Sometimes Leon can be very sarcastic towards you, but then he himself will feel guilty for it.
I think the longer he is in a stable relationship, the stronger his love for his partner becomes, and he doesn't care how much younger you are!
He loves you, and the thought that you might leave him for someone else bothers him. Therefore, sometimes Leon takes flirting with guys with hostility.
He is not one of those who will make a scandal out of the blue, but most likely will hold an explanatory conversation with you at home.
He just wants to make sure that your relationship with him is not a fun game for you.
Maybe he just took a friendly conversation like that, but you don't consider a conversation with a friend to be flirting.
It will be done professionally and unnoticeably (until morning), but Leon will leave you noticeable marks. How were you supposed to know that a sweet kiss on your neck would turn into a hickey?
Pretty hard to hide if it's summer or spring outside.
But Leon doesn't regret judging by his smug grin.
You're his woman. Of course you have complete freedom of action, but that asshole will know that you have someone and there is nothing to bother with an invitation to a date.

Noble OCs - Blerster
Making five OCs for every clan!
Ai Blerster: Non-pureblood. Alive in the present day, belongs to Raskreia’s generation.
Ai proudly calls herself a scientist. Well, she’s impressed with her advanced creations even though she isn’t an advocate for what they actually do. Thanks to Ai’s curiosity and ambition, she ends up developing a dangerous poison which can be broadly labeled as a “love potion” if all negative side effects are ignored. If someone gives this love poison to whom they desire and have unrequited love for, the recipient would return those feelings at the eventual cost of their own sanity. The gimmick is memory manipulation. It works by replacing the people in the target’s most cherished and impactful memories with the one who feeds them the poison. This process is so seamless that the victim doesn’t even notice that their memories have been tampered with. The effects of this potion aren’t permanent, though. It becomes unstable in about a century or so and if the antidote isn’t administered by that point, the “authentic” memories resurface and clash with the artificial ones and immense pain follows. Ai is amazed and horrified at the same time. It works, but it’s cursed. Damn, she only wanted to make a prank potion that has the other person burp out pink heart-shaped cloud puffs. Turns out she has the potential to be a real villain if she wants to. Ai hands this love poison to the nobles’ equivalent of forensic scientists for them to study memory manipulation in crime. It’ll be extremely helpful for evidence examination and analyzation. Thank goodness Ai is on their side and supports criminal justice or else they’ll be in quite some trouble. She does successfully develop her ideal prank potion though. That’s the most important part. Her partner thinks it’s amusing. Ai’s hobby is collecting lollipop wrappers, flattening and smoothing them, and putting them in a special photo album.
Venus Blerster: Pureblood. Entered forced eternal sleep, belonged to Gejutel’s generation.
Venus was a strange and unpredictable person. Throughout her lifetime, she oscillated between praising blissful life and lamenting how existence is inherently pain and torture. It was almost as if she had two completely different personalities, and no know knew what triggered her to switch from one to the other. She could be twirling around with her arms wide open as she’s passionately singing about how beautiful the world is, and one minute later she’s sobbing violently as she’s mercilessly destroying every single flower in her garden and apologizing to them for forcing them to grow in this miserable place. The frequency of Venus’ personality changes were just as unpredictable as the things she did. Sometimes she switched personalities once every five minutes, sometimes she remained in one for decades which made people wonder if she was finally “settling down” for good. Then they would be proven wrong when she switched again. Rinse and repeat. Her erratic nature did not hinder her charisma from manifesting. Venus had many friends who embraced her for who she was. One of them was the previous Previous Lord. Venus’ greatest challenge in life was understanding the true meaning of love. There were countless definitions that were distinct from each other yet vaguely overlapped at times and that bothered Venus immensely. The inconsistency and lack of a single uniform definition drove her mad. She was certain that there is one that underlies them all. And there was a reason behind why she desired an answer so badly. Venus was aware of her personality changes and despite living with and mostly being used to it, she was miserable from experiencing countless ups and downs. Ascending into the heavens then crashing down into hell in a perpetual cycle drove her mad. At first she tested love for friends. Not quite. Then she tried love for significant others. Didn’t cure her. Then she moved onto love for family. Turns out a child couldn’t fill the hole in her soul either. The Previous Lord was the product and victim of Venus’ experiments. She tried her best to be a good mother, but her son ended up being more like a parental figure to her than she ever was to him. Venus continued to be a mess as her son took care of her without complaint. One faithful day, she seemingly found the answer to her struggles. Self love. To her, the only way to achieve that was to leave this world for an eternal paradise. She can finally be free from pain. She felt sorry for her son, but she loved him very much, so she couldn’t leave him alone. They could be together forever, she thought. Venus prepared a juice mix and offered some to her son. Unbeknownst to him, it was laced with a lethal poison. Venus had intended to take him out with her. She cradled her little boy in her arms as both of them closed their eyes. It was nothing less than a miracle that the nobles were able to find the Lord’s heir in time and save him from being at death’s door. But it was too late for his beloved mother. Before Venus died, her hobby was cultivating blue roses.
Imhotep Blerster: Non-pureblood. Alive in the present day, belongs to Raskreia’s generation.
Imhotep is Nefertiti’s older twin. He’s one of the calmest people out there and his deep voice is very soothing. Those who feel agitated and desire sleep for the sake of tranquility can hire him to show up at their homes and read books to them. Imhotep used to be part of the Central Order as one of the Knights who reads daily reports out loud but he got fired because his colleagues kept drifting off whenever he spoke. They were very nice about kicking him out, though. It’s not his fault, he just has some irresistible type of superpower. Currently, Imhotep works as a therapist for friends and couples. While he is aware that love can’t fix everything, he remains hopeful that it can improve lives if people communicated better. He does his best to help his clients heal with each other if there’s still love left in rocky friendships and strained romantic relationships. If nobles are going to live for so long, might as well try to not hate each other forever in case something goes wrong. Imhotep can make even the most aggressive people feel at ease in his presence. The actual therapy part is arguably easier than trying to get people to come into his office in the first place. Some are too proud to admit that they need help, some are scared of facing their problems despite wanting change, others simply don’t want a third party involved in their business. Imhotep just patiently waits for them to make up their minds. In the meantime, his hobby is keeping supernatural bees and collecting their delicious honey. The honey comes in all sorts of colors and flavors depending on the flowers he offers to them. The bees are very smart and can communicate with Imhotep. They understand his words and love following him around and hanging out in his hair. People sometimes mistake them for hair accessories until they start moving. Imhotep makes sweet hot beverages with the honey he collects.
Nefertiti Blerster: Non-pureblood. Alive in the present day, belongs to Raskreia’s generation.
Nefertiti is Imhotep’s younger twin. Like her brother, she is friendly and wants to help people. Currently, she works as a therapist for families. Her office is right next to Imhotep’s as they opened their therapy center together as siblings. Nefertiti used to be a member of the Central Order too except she didn’t leave because she got fired. She quit being a Knight to support her brother as soon as she learned about him getting kicked out. If he can’t be there, then she won’t be there either. The twins decided to work together because they share a common interest in improving society through using love to rekindle broken bonds. In Nefertiti’s case, she focuses on the love found between parents and children and between siblings. It would sadden her to see family members attempt to strangle each other when there are less extreme options available. Sometimes it’s inevitable as certain people are hopeless, but might as well give it an honest shot before resorting to violence. If they’re going to fight, they can do it outside. Unlike Imhotep, Nefertiti won’t tolerate chaos inside her office. She doesn’t have her brother’s magical soothing voice so she can’t get overreacting clients to calm down easily. Instead, she makes them all wear “peace bracelets” when they come in, which are special artifacts that temporarily prevent extreme fluctuations in mood. If you accidentally destroy her vase, she might as well blast a hole in your forehead with an arrow. Just kidding, Nefertiti won’t actually do that. She’s going to think about it, though. Be careful, she’s the less patient twin even though both of them are usually very nice.
Euphranor Blerster: Pureblood. Alive in the present day, belongs to the Previous Lord’s generation.
Euphranor is vibrant and energetic. He used to live in Lukedonia with his partner until the latter suggested that maybe it’s better if they get a new life elsewhere in the world. Although the change of mind was so sudden it seemed out of place, Euphranor nonetheless supported his partner’s idea and both of them moved to the human world. It’d be nice to switch up the pace of things, he thought. Besides, he had always wanted to do something more fun and exciting even if he isn’t the type to voice such desires. He’s glad that someone else brought it up first. Within a week, the two of them said goodbye to Lukedonia and started traveling around the world. Currently, they live somewhere in the United States and Euphranor is having the time of his life as a wedding photographer. Weddings do bring out the weirdest people after all. It’s lively, the music is great, the drama is fun to watch, dancing is cool, and the cake tastes pretty nice too. He can even bring home some yummy leftovers. Euphranor thinks humans are cute and appreciates their enthusiasm for life. In a way, he finds the relatively short human lifespan to be very romantic because they celebrate even the smallest of milestones that most nobles usually ignore. Wedding anniversaries, birthdays, passing exams, getting a driver’s license, baby taking first steps, stuff that maybe aren’t worth remembering… the nobles can learn from it, eh? Perhaps it’ll make them less stoic if they practiced gratitude a bit more. If Euphranor ever visits home, he’s definitely going to bring that up to everyone except his partner isn’t exactly too keen on the idea for unknown reasons yet again. Maybe one day. Euphranor enjoys watching overly dramatic reality dating shows even though he knows they’re pretty much staged for views. He’s gonna need more popcorn!
Thank you for reading! Kertia is next!

The Body Swap Episode
So, Once Upon A Swap has what might be called a "reputation" amongst the fandom. When the episode came out, the reception was average, with the immediate recognition that it was a filler episode. However, as time as gone on, more and more think pieces have sprung up discussing this as "the worst episode" or "the weakest episode".
What is my opinion? Well, this isn't my favourite episode, but it isn't my least favourite either.
I am also a contrarian by nature, so I'm going to attempt to argue that this episode has strengths and try to explain what those are and the effect they have on the series as a whole. Specifically, this episode shows character flaws and strengths under pressure.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD
First up, art is subjective, there is no such thing as a "bad piece of television". Yes, expertise of craft is a thing, but that isn't synonymous with the creation itself being "good", because again, art is subjective. The best series or episode is the series or episode that you, personally, liked the most.
Anyway...
This episode is centred around the gimmick of the body swap. TV Tropes calls this a "Freaky Friday Flip", and it is a fairly stock episode of a series. Certain series take it further (There's a character in One Piece for whom this is almost their entire shtick), but that isn't the point. The point is that this is an episode used to highlight character.
As in, this is giving at least one character an insight into the life of another, and showing that insight to the audience as they follow along. It also shows the character who's mind we are following as they react to unusual situations and usually to a loss of abilities that they would usually rely on.
(Also as a note, i will be referring to the characters by their mind, not their body, if that makes sense. This episode is confusing to write about)
For example, Eda's adventure shows the perils of being King, and shows how Eda responds to not being able to cast magic (I wonder if that will ever come up again). While the perils of this episode are mostly a bit shallow in my opinion, the problem solving isn't.
We see Eda's flaws, and how like King she really is. Eda has an ego just as big as her son, and despite acknowledging the obvious warning bells of her plot, she is tricked by a simple compliment. We see that, although she is unconditionally one of the series' mentour characters, she is anything but wise.
Meanwhile King wears his flaws on his sleeves. You could say that Luz and Eda do too, but King does it the most obviously. He is ambitious, and, to put it bluntly, delusional. He seeks fame and adoration, so naturally he finds it in this episode, but is completely unprepared for it to go sour as being special as a teenager ain't all it's cracked up to be. However, we also see the sheer force of personality King is throwing around. Eloquence and charisma aren't the same thing. Bellos is eloquent, King is charismatic.
Case and point: Even when everything is going badly for him, King always has something to say to shrug it off and get under Bosha's skin.
Finally, there is Luz, and Eda's problems. First up, this is the first of only a few times we get to see Luz cast "real magic". As in, not from a glyph. And although she isn't as proficient as Eda, most likely due to a lack of experience, she revels in the power. You could even say that she relies on it above all else. Luz is a character chasing fantasies, and this is one that has almost literally fallen from the sky in front of her.
But Eda's life does have drawbacks. Eda is on the run, and we see how Luz handles that. Badly. The reason the emperor's coven is such a threat to Eda is because it's not a problem she can throw magic at until it goes away. Luz doesn't quite get that, she instead runs on TTRPG-character-after-a-power-up energy and tries to use it at every situation.
But Luz isn't without her own strengths. I've said elsewhere that Luz isn't especially powerful, and I stand by that. What she has instead is a tactical mind, and that mind carries over to this situation. Here, instead of a strategising, we see that mind learn incredibly quickly. Yes, she gets lucky, but she also picks up on some things, notably a little bit of the background between Eda, Lilith, and the Emperor's Coven itself.
Essentially, this comes back to what I have said in earlier posts. The Owl House uses archetypal storytelling masterfully. It shows characters as tropes first, then shows the nuances of their characterisation as you get closer to them and understand more. In this episode, Luz, King, and Eda can only see the tropes that their companions fit into, and only after living their lives for a while can they comprehend the complexity.

Starfinder to PF1 Conversion: Despondaemon
Another conversion from me, and this time, I'll be looking to Starfinder in order to convert a creature from there. I was quite impressed by the Despondaemon (from the Starfinder AP #45, "The Culling Shadow"), and I thought it could have been an interesting challenge to convert. Besides, it kinda represents a very vexing real-world evil...
Please tell me what you think. I think I might have botched the feats...

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Emotional Empathy (Su) A despondaemon can intuitively read the emotions of those it senses with its blindsight, knowing what emotion the target is experiencing at any given moment. As a result, a despondaemon has a +4 racial bonus on any Sense Motive check.
Harden Exterior (Ex) As a swift action, a despondaemon can harden its exterior, granting it a +2 circumstance bonus on its AC but halving its speed. The despondaemon can end this effect as a swift action.
Psychic Warfare (Su) A creature swallowed by a despondaemon is telepathically assaulted by the daemon, constantly hearing voices that urge her to surrender so that it can feed on her. A creature inside the despondaemon’s gizzard must make a Will save (DC 17) at the start of each turn or become shaken for that round. The save DC is Charisma-based.
A despondaemon is a particularly loathsome kind of daemon that, rather than representing a specific kind of death, is created from the souls of obstructive bureaucrats and incompetent pencil-pushers who prioritized bureaucracy and useless, time-consuming formalities over the well-being of people. In life, they drove well-meaning people to ruination and caused avoidable deaths and suffering with their insistence in following obtuse protocol; now, in their afterlife, they have been transformed in unreasoning beasts, since they refused to use reason and common sense to reach an easier and more compassionate solution to otherwise simple matters. And much like they suffocated people with endless paperwork and pointless consistency, they now literally suffocate their prey in their semisolid bodies.
A despondaemon is a direct combatant. It slowly approaches prey or simply waits for its victims to get close, before surging out of the sand and try to gulp down its prey. Victims swallowed by a despondaemon constantly hear the monster’s telepathic voice, urging them to surrender and let themselves die so that it can feed on them and that “the proper order is kept”. In the dismal wastes and deserts of Abaddon, these creatures mostly feed on petitioners, but they much prefer living and sentient prey. They consider people suffering from depression to be particularly delicious morsels and target them whenever possible, using their strange empathetic senses to single them out.
Despondaemons are made of living sand, and as such don’t have a fixed form, but they usually resemble mounds of sand about 10 feet in diameter and weighing several tons.

Touchstones
Azriel has three key Touchstones at this point in his life: Phillip Mercotte, Thomas O'Shea, and Shirley Temple.
Phillip Mercotte
(FC: Anthony Andrews)
Azriel's godson, the son of his childhood sweetheart/lover Alastair. Aggie's got a lot of baggage tied up in Phillip beyond just the whole Kindred thing; in a lot of ways, he represents a life denied. It sounds poetic and flowery but on a certain level I think Aggie really does feel like Phillip should have been his son, with Alastair. There's a profound awareness, almost a vision, the idea of another time and place in which a relationship like he and Alastair shared could have been real and recognized in a way that would have allowed them to have their own family. It's a feeling that is first put to words (not directly, more unspoken meaning) by Alastair when he asks Aggie to be Phillip's godfather, but Aggie latches onto it and can't let it go.
Phillip isn't particularly handsome to look at, though he's got a certain charisma; and his art isn't all that special, either, though he has a handful of dedicated collectors who seek him out for gifts and commissions. He was born in 1947, making him 51 years old currently ("current" being the year our Chronicle is set, 1998). But what makes him special--what makes him a Touchstone--for Aggie is that connection back to Alastair, the only person he has ever really loved, the only reason Aggie even knows what romantic love is or could feel like. There's so much complication wrapped up in it, but as time has passed and the world has changed, becoming somewhat more progressive, gaining words for people like Aggie and Alastair, people like them entering the limelight, Phillip has become representative of Aggie's "love as thou wilt" conviction.
(I'll get more into detail about Phillip another time, since there's a lot more to be written about him and his relationship with Aggie; just writing about that relationship could easily be its own post and I don't want this Touchstone summary to drag on forever.)
(ETA: Phillip dies from cancer at 81 years of age. Aggie learns about his illness in 2027. )
Thomas O'Shea
(FC: Ken Yoshikawa)
A ghoul belonging to another Toreador in DeVry's small circle, Erika Komorebi, Thomas is a talented artist, favouring charcoal, oil pastels, and graphite. Erika and he were both present at Aggie's Embrace; Erika to partake in the draining, Thomas to capture the moment at DeVry's invitation as part of Aggie's birthday gift (Aggie was familiar with and had expressed appreciation for Thomas' art at a party hosted by Komorebi).
While Aggie appreciated Thomas' art before his Embrace, the painting Thomas did of the scene stands out in his mind as one of the most exceptional works he's witnessed. Like the moment that Alastair asked him to be Phillip's godfather with all the unspoken intent, the moment he first saw the painting is similarly crystallized in his mind. (I want to write more about the painting--I have such a clear vision in mind for it and it feels so important to Aggie's perspective on his Kindred existence, especially since it is the source of the connection between Thomas and Aggie's "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" conviction.)
They've had casual sexual encounters since then, never anything approaching a relationship (Aggie doesn't do those, Thomas belongs to Erika), but Thomas is the only person in Kindred society who Aggie feels has fully seen both his Kindred and his human nature; he captured the moment those two collided, after all. Erika and Thomas remained in London when Aggie and DeVry left, but the painting allows Aggie to continue to feel connected. Don't ask me how often he tosses off to it, you won't like the answer.
Shirley Temple
(FC: Herself)
Aggie saw and heard of the effect that sending boys who were barely men off to war had on them. He saw it in Alastair, who came back from war changed and, while not hard, more distant. He saw the impact it had on his father, who was never affectionate with Alastair but who changed from the type of young man who lived a free and easy life to an older man with pain and hate in him. He experienced abuses at Eton from the other students, and heard stories about what the other students endured at the hands of their schoolmasters (though DeVry kept him from experiencing it himself). And, of course, he had his own experiences as a child growing up in an essentially loveless home, ignored if not emotionally neglected by his parents, under the heavy hand of nurses and governesses who had little to recommend them in the emotional work of childcare. And then there's Phillip, his godson, who he has watched grow from a baby into a young man and experience all the harshness of life.
All of which to say--Aggie has some strong feelings about protecting children. I'm not really certain how it comes about, but I think the films of his childhood (he was largely contemporary with Shirley Temple) kind of coalesce in his mind as this idealized version of how a child should be--carefree, adored, dancing and making music. Even as a youth, as rumours were spreading in Britain particularly about her--she's a 30-year-old dwarf, her hair is a wig, she's never lost her baby teeth or never had them to begin with--he felt defensive of her as an extension of his own childhood.
Those films and characters become this crystalline, idealized version of what childhood should look like. Even as she grows up and enters the public eye in other ways through her political career, he always pictures her as that child actress, this preservation of idyllic childhood freedom; and when other rumours circulate later in life, about what she might have experienced or endured during her stardom, that just coalesces his determination that "children should be shielded from violence" even further.
(This will probably be the first of his Touchstones to pass away, which seems fitting the more that comes out about her life as a child star, and a growing disillusionment with the world at large that seems so actively reluctant to just leave kids alone. By the time she dies in 2014, I think Aggie's ready to give up on the idea of trying to protect children from violence; between bullying, parental neglect, abuse and exploitation, childhood is violence, and the idea that he ever felt otherwise is laughable naivety.)

"Keanu Reeves: The Hollywood Rebel Who Said No to Selling Out"
In a town where egos are bigger than paychecks and the spotlight can burn out souls, one man quietly chose a different path. Keanu Reeves. A guy who could have anything—fame, fortune, endless luxury—but instead, he turned it down. Why? Because he doesn’t care about being a superstar. He cares about something much more valuable—integrity. Keanu Reeves isn’t your average Hollywood celebrity. Sure, he's starred in The Matrix and John Wick, and sure, he's worth millions. But there’s a reason people stop and take notice when they hear his name—and it’s not just because of his on-screen talents. It’s because this guy, against all odds, didn’t sell out. That’s right, in an industry where everyone is chasing the next big payday, Reeves walks the other way. Why Did He Turn Down Millions? Remember Speed? The massive 90s hit that turned him into a household name? When the studio came knocking with a sequel, offering Reeves a massive check, he did the unthinkable. He said no. He turned down a multimillion-dollar payday. Why? Because the script sucked, and Reeves wasn’t about to put his name on something he didn’t believe in. Most actors would kill for that role—but not Keanu. He didn’t care about the money. He cared about doing something meaningful. The Matrix Pay Cut: Putting His Money Where His Mouth IsNow, this one will blow your mind. Reeves didn’t just walk away from big money—he gave it away. During The Matrix trilogy, Reeves took a massive pay cut—tens of millions of dollars worth—so that the special effects and costume teams could get paid what they deserved. Can you even imagine? While other actors are busy raking in every penny, Keanu’s quietly handing over the cash so the people behind the scenes get their fair share. He didn’t want the glory. He wanted everyone to win. The Man Behind the Curtain: More Tragedy Than You Know Here’s where the story gets real. Behind the action scenes and movie-star charisma, Keanu Reeves has been dealt a rough hand. After his sister was diagnosed with leukemia, Keanu put his career on hold to care for her. Let that sink in. He wasn’t just tossing a few bucks at a charity gala; he was there, by her side, every day. And that’s not all—he’s quietly donated millions to cancer research and hospitals, never once asking for credit. No press, no spotlight. Just pure, unfiltered compassion. Avoiding the Hollywood Trap While everyone else in Tinseltown is cruising around in Rolls Royce and soaking up the glitz, Keanu’s out here riding the subway. He’s grabbing his own coffee, chatting with fans, living like a regular guy. It’s almost laughable—this is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and he’s the least “Hollywood” person you’ll meet. And he couldn’t care less. He doesn’t need red carpets or five-star parties. Happiness, for Keanu, is living simply and authentically. No big ego. No drama. Why Keanu Is the Ultimate Rebel Keanu Reeves isn’t just another actor who plays heroes on the big screen—he’s a real-life renegade in a town that thrives on selling out. He’s loyal to his friends, passionate about projects he believes in, and, most importantly, he’s stayed true to himself. In a world obsessed with bigger paychecks and bigger egos, Reeves is a reminder that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of your soul. Think about it—when’s the last time you heard a story about someone turning down millions to protect their integrity? Keanu Reeves didn’t sell out because he didn’t need to. And in the end, that makes him richer than any Hollywood paycheck ever could. This is the guy who said "no" to selling his soul for fame—and guess what? He’s still one of the most beloved stars on the planet. You want to talk about a true Hollywood hero? Look no further than Keanu Reeves.

TWISTERS (2024)
Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Harry Hadden-Paton, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, David Corenswet, Tunde Adebimpe, Katy O'Brian, Paul Scheer, James Paxton, David Born, Paul Scheer, Laura Poe, Austin Bullock, Stephen Oyoung, Alex Kingi and Chris Adrien.
Screenplay by Mark L. Smith.
Directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
Distributed by Universal Pictures. 122 minutes. Rated PG-13.
The film Twisters whips the summer season into a climatic frenzy of life and death.
With this summer season of intense weather and a vast array of tornadoes touching down in state after state, there's no better timing than now to release this film, Twisters. It's a sort of sequel to its 28-year-old predecessor, Twister – directed by the now-retired Jan De Bont. The now 80-year-old Dutchman was a cinematographer, director and film producer. He's best known for directing 1994's Speed and then Twister which were part of the rise of blockbusters such as Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. De Bont was cinematographer on one installment of each of those series. Chock full of dramatic moments we can all relate to, both films are terrifying. The various scenes of destruction are blood curdling. And given that a twister is far more fearsome than any creature fabrication like Godzilla – since storms are far less easy to reason with – the film resonates. As innovative as the original was, this edition explores all the investment in special effects to give audiences a truly close up look at what people have actually experienced when this weather phenomena destroys homes and sweeps people away into deathly oblivion. But these films, especially the latest as directed by Lee Isaac Chung, aren’t merely fictionalized documentaries. There is a rich and fully rounded narrative of love lost and gained here. Most of that’s thanks to the fine casting of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell – who now seem to be the go-to guy for actors who display naturalistic grit and charisma. As weather scientist Kate, Britisher Edgar-Jones provides a reasonable facsimile of a Midwesterner obsessed with coming up with a Tornado-killer solution. The film opens as she is working with fellow students and friends to test a chemical solution to contain tornadoes. All goes awry and three of her team are swept away to their deaths. Five years later, the other survivor, Javi (Anthony Ramos), comes to NYC to ask Kate to help him with a new project, a 3D tornado mapping system which has – as audiences realize later – insidious implications. They head to Oklahoma where they clash, at first, with tornado wrangler Tyler Owens (Powell), a high-energy social media sensation. Initially, the two teams compete but Kate eventually bonds with him and discovers that he has the scientific acumen to help her along the way. As they wend their way to the film’s conclusion – repeatedly surviving death-dealing twisters – both find love and scientific solutions to quell the impact of these mega-death machines. It also opens the door to possible sequels, ones to be produced in a shorter time than nearly three decades. In addition to the sheer drama of the various set pieces constructed here, Twisters is also loaded with trenchant political, scientific and sociological notions. The ecological implications are obvious. There have been so many hyper-powerful tornadoes happening now in our real world. Are they due to authorities ignoring the cause of the surge?
For various reasons too complicated to go into here, greed and irrational climate deniers have made it harder to address the long-term solutions necessary to make life in tornado alley more bearable. This film may have a touch of fanciful science built into it, but it also provokes audiences to think of the implications of weather change and man-made global warming. Twisters may not make your summer more soothing, but it does provoke more than just sheer terror.

Introduction to 3D Animation Principles
3D animation is a captivating art form that brings characters, environments, and stories to life through computer-generated imagery (CGI). Whether in movies, video games, simulations, or virtual reality, 3D animation plays a crucial role in creating immersive and visually stunning experiences. Understanding the principles that govern 3D animation is essential for aspiring animators and anyone interested in the intricacies of digital storytelling. Enrolling in a reputable animation academy in Pune can provide aspiring animators with the skills and knowledge needed to master these principles and excel in the dynamic field of digital animation.
**1. Understanding 3D Animation**
3D animation refers to the process of generating three-dimensional moving images in a digital environment. Unlike traditional 2D animation, which involves creating movement frame-by-frame, 3D animation utilizes computer software to manipulate 3D models and simulate realistic movements. This technology allows animators to control aspects such as lighting, texture, and camera angles, enhancing the depth and realism of animations.
**2. Principles of Animation**
The principles of animation, first articulated by Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, form the foundation of creating believable and compelling motion in both 2D and 3D animation. These principles include:
- **Squash and Stretch**: This principle adds flexibility and realism to objects and characters by exaggerating their shape during movement.
- **Anticipation**: Anticipation prepares the viewer for an upcoming action by indicating what is about to happen through subtle movements or expressions.
- **Staging**: Staging directs the audience's attention to the most critical elements of the scene, using composition, lighting, and framing to enhance storytelling.
- **Timing and Spacing**: Timing determines the speed and rhythm of movements, while spacing refers to the distribution of keyframes to create smooth, natural motion.
- **Follow-through and Overlapping Action**: These principles ensure that different parts of a character or object move at different speeds, reflecting the inertia and weight of real-life motion.
- **Appeal**: Appeal refers to the visual attractiveness and charisma of characters, making them engaging and memorable to audiences.
**3. Modeling and Texturing**
Modeling is the process of creating 3D objects within a virtual environment. Artists use specialized software to define the shape, structure, and details of characters, props, and environments. Texturing involves applying surface detail, such as color, texture, and material properties, to these models. High-quality textures enhance realism and create visual interest in animations.
**4. Rigging and Animation**
Rigging is the process of adding a digital skeleton, or rig, to a 3D model. This skeleton consists of bones, joints, and controls that allow animators to pose and animate the model realistically. Animators use keyframes and interpolation techniques to create movement, adjusting the rig over time to simulate actions such as walking, running, or facial expressions. Rigging and animation require a deep understanding of anatomy, physics, and the principles of motion.
**5. Lighting and Rendering**
Lighting and rendering are crucial for setting the mood, atmosphere, and visual style of a 3D animation. Lighting artists use virtual light sources to illuminate scenes, creating shadows, highlights, and reflections that enhance realism and depth. Rendering involves converting 3D scenes into 2D images or frames, using advanced software to calculate lighting, shadows, textures, and effects. The rendering process can be time-consuming, but it is essential for producing high-quality final animations.
**6. Special Effects and Simulation**
Special effects and simulation techniques add complexity and realism to 3D animations. Particle systems simulate natural phenomena such as fire, smoke, water, and explosions, while dynamics engines replicate physical interactions like gravity, collisions, and cloth simulations. These tools allow animators to create dynamic and visually impressive scenes that would be challenging or impossible to achieve manually.
**7. Storyboarding and Cinematography**
Storyboarding is a critical pre-production step in 3D animation, where artists create a sequence of drawings or images to visualize the story and plan the composition of each shot. Cinematography principles, such as camera angles, framing, and depth of field, guide the placement and movement of virtual cameras within the 3D environment. Effective storyboarding and cinematography ensure that animations flow logically and visually communicate the intended narrative.
**8. Industry Applications and Career Opportunities**
The versatility of 3D animation extends across various industries, including film, television, advertising, video games, architecture, and medical visualization. Skilled 3D animators are in demand for roles such as character animator, visual effects artist, motion graphics designer, and technical animator. As technology advances and demand grows for immersive digital experiences, the importance of 3D animation principles continues to expand.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, 3D animation is a dynamic and evolving field that blends artistry with technology to create captivating visual experiences. Understanding the principles of 3D animation—from modeling and rigging to lighting and storytelling—is essential for aspiring animators seeking to master this innovative art form. By applying these principles creatively and skillfully, animators can bring imaginative worlds to life and evoke emotion, excitement, and wonder in audiences around the globe. As the industry continues to innovate, mastery of 3D animation principles will remain a valuable skill for shaping the future of digital storytelling.

Whether you're an entrepreneur, a business executive, or a professional seeking to influence, the impact of a well-delivered pitch cannot be overstated. This is where the convergence of pitching skillsv, pitching coaches, and executive presentation coaching comes into play, transforming good speakers into exceptional communicators.
The Essence of Pitching Skills
At the core, pitching is about communication and persuasion. It involves presenting your ideas, products, or services in a manner that is not only clear and concise but also compelling and convincing. Excellent pitching skills encompass several elements:
1. Clarity of Message: Your pitch should articulate the value proposition with precision. Avoid jargon and be succinct.

3. Confidence and Poise: These are vital in making an impression. Your confidence can win trust and interest.
4. Adaptability: Tailoring your pitch to suit different audiences and contexts is a mark of a skilled pitcher.
The Role of Pitching Coaches
Just as athletes have coaches to refine their skills, pitching coaches play a pivotal role in shaping your pitching abilities. These are experts who can:
1. Identify Areas for Improvement: A good coach can pinpoint aspects of your pitching that need work – whether it’s your body language, your delivery, or the structure of your pitch.
2. Provide Constructive Feedback: They offer objective, actionable feedback that you might not get from colleagues or friends.
3. Offer Practice and Rehearsal Strategies: Repeated, deliberate practice under expert guidance is key to mastering pitching.
4. Boost Confidence: Sometimes, all you need is a bit of encouragement and reassurance from a seasoned professional.
Executive Presentation Coaching: Taking it a Notch Higher
While pitching coaches focus broadly on your pitching skills, executive presentation coachingv is more specialized. It is particularly relevant for senior professionals who need to communicate effectively in high-stakes environments. This type of coaching:

1. Regular Practice: Use the feedback from your coach to practice regularly. This can be through role-playing
scenarios or real-life opportunities to pitch.
2. Self-Analysis: After each pitch, take time to reflect. What worked? What didn’t? Self-awareness is crucial in the growth process.
3. Embrace Feedback: Be open to criticism and use it constructively. Remember, each piece of feedback is a stepping stone to improvement.
4. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends in pitching and presentation. This can be through workshops, seminars, or even online courses.
Case Studies: Success Through Effective Coaching
To illustrate the power of combining pitching skills with effective coaching, let's look at some real-world examples:
1. The Startup Founder: A tech entrepreneur struggled to secure funding due to lackluster pitches. After working with a pitching coach, they learned to simplify their message and connect emotionally with investors. The result? A successful funding round.
2. The Corporate Executive: A high-level executive faced challenges in conveying strategic visions to stakeholders. Executive presentation coaching helped refine their storytelling skills, making their presentations more engaging and influential.
Conclusion

Two Charismatic Movie Performances, from Out of the Blue
The vagaries and vicissitudes of a movie actor's career... This is a subject worth thinking about.
To someone looking in from the outside, the life of an actor working in movies might appear to be one of ease and comfort, but in my not-so-humble opinion, I think it's a life of frequent periods of anxiety, a roll of the dice, from one project to the next.
The movie actor who has a second job is thinking rationally, thinking ahead, and thinking of security. My guess is that most -- even the older ones -- do not have a second legal source of income.
Try to imagine that you're young, attractive looking, an effective and convincing actor, and that people in the business describe you as charismatic.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary website defines the noun 'charisma' as follows: "(1) a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (such as a politician) and (2) a special magnetic charm or appeal."
I'm trying to think of someone working nowadays in Hollywood who has a special magnetic charm or appeal. I'm drawing a blank -- but that might be an unconscious bias on my part. On the other hand, someone working in the business would probably name a number of performers; i.e., names that I've seen in print but whose acting portrayals I have never watched.
The past was different for me. Two of my favorite actors had charisma: Stewart Granger and Patrick McGoohan.
Recently, I did watch a movie with two major characters who were portrayed by actors with charisma. I'll briefly describe the plot. The movie in question is one that the overwhelming majority of movie lovers, here, at Tumblr, have never heard of...
Sarah Lenaerts (Marie Vinck) is a teenager, soon to be 16 years old. She lives with her two young siblings and her mom and dad, Denise and Marcel, in a comfortable, modern looking apartment in a nice neighborhood in Antwerp, Belgium.
Sarah has been counting the days to her birthday and trying to find the nerve to work towards her one goal in life: to become a professional ballerina.
Her parents are so wrapped up in their lives that they have ignored the emotional development of their first born. Any sign of disrespect from Sarah results in an immediate scolding -- usually from mom, since dad is rarely around.
In the movie's first sequence, Sarah is introduced spontaneously dancing to the approval of her elementary school-age sister and brother. When mom appears and tells her to put a help wanted advertisement in the local newspaper, Sarah impulsively refuses -- resulting in a fight. It's not the first fight between the two, but it lands Sarah with a nasty bruise on her forehead. One of mom's slaps sends Sarah to the floor, head- first.
Sarah's daily route, taking her brother and sister first to their school and then going to her high school, passes by a neighborhood bar and restaurant called The Choice which is run by a young man in his 20's named Vic (Fedja van Huet). Vic has watched Sarah pass by on many school days.
On this particular school day, Sarah is so distruaght that she eventually sits on a bench near the bar/restaurant trying to untangle her emotions. Vic walks by, strikes up a conversation with her, and soon offers to take her to the hospital to take care of the wound on her forehead.
Once that's taken care of, Sarah and Vic sit together on a dock and, from this restful spot, Vic offers both guidance and support, both of which Saarah has needed for a long time.
Sarah has no knowledge of the fact that Vic's real line of work is that of a pimp. The bar/restaurant is the usual spot where his many prostitutes get together with clients.
The chemistry between these two characters is absolutely convincing.
Scene after scene, details accumulate showing how Vic does his work. His supervisor, named Hugo, is both genial and cold-blooded, and drives around the streets of Antwerp in a stretch limousine, looking for more local 'talent.' An unnamed boss is mentioned, from time to time, and never seen.
The bulk of the plot of this increasingly tense movie plays out over twelve consecutive days, before moving ahead four months later to an emotional and inspiring ending.
The name of this unknown-in-the-U.S. movie is THE KISS (org'l title: DE KUS - 2004).
If for no othe reason, movie lovers, here, at Tumblr, should watch this movie for the acting performances of the entire large cast of characters -- and especially for the performances of Vinck and van Huet.
THE KISS is another movie that should be better known and is available on DVD with English subtitles. It flows and moves along effortlessly, with a running time of 100 minutes. I recommend it to all movie lovers.

Bewitched (2005)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
During the Mid ‘00s, there was a brief trend of taking popular television series from the ‘60s and onwards and re-imagining/comedically interpreting them as films. Bewitched must be one of the worst examples. It’s unfunny, wastes the talents of its stars and squanders its potential.
After a series of box-office flops, Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) agrees to play the role of Darrin in a remake of the 1960s sitcom Bewitched. He insists on being the show's star, which means the producers must cast a nobody in the role of his witch wife, Samantha. Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman), an actual witch, sees the role as an opportunity to step away from the world of sorcery she’s grown tired of but soon becomes displeased with her narcissistic co-star.
When in a leading role, Will Ferrell and his comedic style tends to be polarizing. Either audiences think he's a riot, or they can't stand him. In this case, neither camp will have any fun. It isn’t that he’s everdoing his schtick. Actually, the only laughs you get come when director Nora Ephron allows him to let loose. Even then, she lets him go on for too long half the time but he actually succeeds in generating chuckles, unlike the script Nora co-wrote with her sister, Delia Ephron. Steve Carell has a brief role and he’s annoying. Michael Caine as Isabel’s father is slightly amusing but nothing he does goes anywhere and the smiles you get when he's on-screen come from the actor’s charisma, not his lines. Isabel’s newfound friends (Kristin Chenoweth and Heather Burns) are useless, Jack’s sycophant producer Ritchie (Jason Schwarztman) is irritating. You don’t even get a funny talking puppet cat. If the movie had been funny, the gag where Isabel literally rewinds time would’ve been amusing. It isn’t, so all you can do is think about how stupid she must be for forgetting about this spell every other time.
I saved my complaints about the magic for now, because it’s what ultimately sinks the ship. Overall, the fact that Isabel can cast spells means NOTHING. While on TV, the production crew use special effects to make her “mother” Endora (Shirley MacLain) appear. Jack’s lack of charisma makes everyone hate him and love Isabel. She didn’t really have to audition for the role - she just gets the part because she can wiggle her nose. She doesn’t even want to use magic so she doesn’t except in a few scenes you could edit out or turn into fantasy/dream sequences. You could’ve made this movie as just two people on the set of a TV series but that would've forced Bewitched to ditch many of its favourite “gag”. See, Isabel was raised by witches and warlocks, so she has no idea what the Muggle world is like. In fact, she barely understands English. She’s so dumb she depends on her spellcasting to get through the day when she isn’t trapped in a standard, boring rom-com.
Bewitched throws enough darts toward its target to score a couple of hits. For viewers, they come at a steep price. On top of the poorly written and conceived story, the lousy direction, and the non-sensical or confusing aspects (I still can’t figure out if Carole Shelley’s character is Isabel’s real aunt coincidentally called Clara or a character from the show somehow brought to life), this is a romantic comedy that’s never the least bit romantic. Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman have charm as individuals but there are no sparks between them. Bewitched deserves to be burned at the stake. (October 26, 2020)
