I love chardee friendship. I love you implication of the ending scene in “The waitress is getting married” when he finds out that not only was the waitress upset about Brad dumping her before the wedding BUT also that he was going to do it to Dee. I love you box of hornets. I love that Charlie is probably Dee’s bestfriend. I love the gang tends bar Deandra “I want Charlie to give me a valentine because I gave him one and I’m upset he hasn’t even hinted at making one” Reynolds. I love Charlie’s Dee song even though he was being forced to sing it. I love the “I love you” I love the “you said you loved me” scene. Oh my god I like Chardee when they are more than friends.

this might be a little out there, but i'm itching to talk about my "charlie and dee are LITERAL soulmates (of pain) and ernesto was seriously onto something" crack theory. what's your take on that? i know most people aren't really into the whole soulmates thing, but i'm corny and i actually really think it's cute.

I’m not really sure? I’m notreally interested in romance/relationship things, personally, so those I aminvested in are so important to me. I generally think it’s all crap, but I seepeople who are married for decades and still happy, and those who just clickand are best friends too and am like ‘okay, soulmates have to be real.’ Justmaybe not everyone is lucky enough to have one even exist. It’s not that theynever found each other, just that some get one and some don’t.

How it relates to Charlie andDee? I think they’re meant for each other. I wrote about it in another post awhile ago, so sorry if you’ve seen this before but, here’s why:

Charlie seems to obsess overthe woman he loves. (i.e. vitamins in the waitress’s shampoo, testing food forpoison, protecting her bike) And Dee, in a way, wants to be obsessed over. Oneloves really hard, and the other desperately wants to be loved, and the piecesfit together. It’s kind of unhealthy, but it works for them. It’s not abeautiful, romantic story, but it’s what they both need and they essentiallyget a happy ending. Also, Dee is a “Grobanite” and he writes her a song in herfantasy, and Charlie is kind of as musician, and he also wrote her (at leastone) song. So it’s a thing she’s into that he’ll happily provide. She canonlegit likes his music.

Ernesto was 100% ontosomething. I think ‘soulmates of pain’ is a great description- it’s kind oftheir pain that bonds them into that soulmate fit/connection.

That’s probably a bad & insufficientanswer, but there it is.

I love when people believe insoulmates and true love and that “corny” stuff. But I just… don’t really feelmuch for it?

Top 5 non-Sunny characters you would like to see interact with the Sunny gang

This is probably gonna be super indulgent and entirely contingent on what I've watched in the past few months but! That's the whole point of this, isn't it?

These are in no particular order bc I'm adding them to the list as they pop into my head, which I guess....is a particular order after all.

1) Sam and Dean Winchester.

Look okay I know. But honestly I feel like a crossover would weirdly work? Sam and Dean working a case in Philly and they stumble into what they think is your typical dive bar only to have to deal with the Gang. Dean and Dennis would definitely clash. Dee and Mac would try to hit on them. And honestly I would just love Charlie getting the vindication he deserves when the Winchesters tell him Ghouls do in fact exist.

2) The Hargreeves Siblings.

Mac asking Diego to teach him his "cool knife tricks." Klaus shamelessly flirting with Dennis. Five trying to get a drink at the bar but Frank insisting they've already done the underage drinking thing. Then I want them to devolve into an argument about time travel and timelines and arguing what superpower is best/most useful.

3) The Leverage Crew

Just because they're fundamentally opposites of the Gang. They're "Bad People" that actually care and the Gang just... doesn't give a shit about anyone. I feel like the Sunny Gang would admire them for stealing from the rich but would definitely be lost on the whole "giving it back to the poor and needy" thing. "Wait....so you guys don't keep what you steal?" "Not all of it, no." "Why????" And Parker just leans in all "I know I thought it was weird at first too bit you get used to it. It actually makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside." And that just doesn't compute for the Gang at all.

4) The New Girl gang

The NG gang can teach the Sunny Gang True American and the Sunny Gang can teach the NG gang CharDee MacDennis. And together they can come up with a terrifying hybrid drinking game that combines aspects of both. Also why do I feel like I want a Charlie/Nick Miller friendship so bad now????

5) Ian Grimm and the MQ team

I just....I don't have a good explanation for this but give me Dennis thinking Ian is so cool and Mac getting jealous or something. And the Gang trying to give them ideas to "improve" their game that are all terrible.

April 2020 Watchlist: We Are In A Bottle Episode

A bottle episode of a series is one where the scope is more limited than what is typical, usually with a single location and/or heavily focus on just a few characters. The purpose is usually to save production costs, but it also can be a real playground for writers and actors to explore people and places in depth. 

Sound familiar? It should, ‘cause it’s us! Here we go a-sheltering, so thank goodness for television.

Archer S6E5 “Vision Quest” - This show is wacky anyway, but locking all the characters in an elevator for a real time bottle episode is a whole new hilarious danger zone chock-full of in-jokes and call-backs.

Atlanta S2E6 “Teddy Perkins” - Atlanta is a funny show, but “Teddy Perkins” is a psychological horror masterpiece. One of the series regulars arrives at a mansion to pick up a free piano from essentially a late stage Michael Jackson lookalike, and things go from unsettling to much worse over the course of 41 minutes. This aired without commercials or advanced critic screenings, and both helped us feel absolutely suffocated in this giant house.

Breaking Bad S3E10 “Fly” - Extremely over budget and looking at the lives of their characters, the Breaking Bad producers decided to make an episode with just two characters, set in the lab. Rian Johnson- yes, THAT Rian Johnson- directed this tale of two guys with big contamination in their lives who focus their energy on ridding themselves of at least one toxic thing: a fly in their workspace.

Community S2E8 “Cooperative Calligraphy” - Annie’s purple pen is missing, and she is TIRED of lending out her stuff and not getting it back. Nobody is seeing the puppy parade, touching that just-finished diorama, or even leaving this room until it’s found! Community had multiple bottle episodes, but this was a truly incredible feat of small screen filmmaking.

Fawlty Towers S1E4 “Hotel Inspectors” - This show is one of John Cleese’s most enduring works, and still holds up decades later. This particular episode, loosely based on a Nikolai Gogol satirical play, has Basil Fawlty hearing that inspectors are coming to his hotel and immediately mistaking regular guests for them. The cycle of frustration is hilarious!

Friends S3E2 “The One Where No One’s Ready” - It takes a lot of work to make even a single member of an audience feel kinda bad for Ross, but if you’re a punctual person, he’ll earn a bit of your pity in this one. Ross shows up to collect the whole gang for a fancy dress work event only to witness, in real time, some of the most ridiculous bickering, problem solving, and going commando ever undertaken on the show. This is also the one with Monica trying to delete her voicemail message from her ex’s phone and the one where Joey wears all of Chandler’s clothes at once. 

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia S7E7 “Chardee MacDennis” - The absolute chaos that is the Reynolds siblings and the most terrifying tabletop extravaganza of Game Of Games, aka Chardee MacDennis, meet and peak in this episode, when the gang is stuck inside the bar on a rainy day. There are notebook-sized sets of rules for this game if you’d like to risk your life and friendships at home, but we recommend just watching this absolutely ridiculous episode instead.

Mad Men S4E7 “The Suitcase” - There’s a sporting event happening that all but two characters are heading toward. The remaining two are Peggy, who is only waiting for her boss to leave so she can go celebrate her birthday with her boyfriend, and Don, who is sinking into his ad deadline like it’s television quicksand. Peggy and Don end up spending the night working together, refreshingly without romance, even as their personal lives continue to encroach. Their process leads to a brief but absolute understanding between them. Shame the show peaked here, at its halfway point.

Parks & Recreation S7E4 “Leslie & Ron” - There’s a time jump between the 6th and 7th seasons, and for some reason Leslie and Ron are no longer on speaking terms this side of the series. Tired of this nonsense, the rest of the gang tricks them both into meeting in the good ol’ office and locks them in overnight so they can talk it out. What starts as Ron being sullen and silent and Leslie trying to annoy Ron ends in secrets shared, reconciliation, and a stunning rendition of “We Didn’t Start The Fire.”

Star Trek TOS S1E5 “The Enemy Within” - No show ep deserves to be on this list more than The Enemy Within- possibly the origin of the term ‘bottle episode,’ Leonard Nimoy’s invention of the Vulcan nerve pinch, the first time McCoy says, “he’s dead, Jim,” and the true start of the person-split-in-two-parts trope. 

Veep S2E8 “First Response” - Imagine the most uncomfortable interview you’ve ever seen or been part of. Now imagine that interview involved a supposed fluff news reporter who is suddenly intent on asking hard-hitting questions and a socially inept, graceless vice president. This episode is all the secondhand cringe an audience could handle, and we will let you decide who- if anybody- won this battle of wills. 

The West Wing S2E18 “17 People” - This is a nearly perfect hour of television, even if the show as a whole has some issues in hindsight. Several conversations all happening inside the White House weave together to form a hilarious and heartbreaking narrative that drives the remainder of the season. How good is it, you ask? A fan (some fans?) literally built an entire website for this episode alone.

Basic ask but thoughts about MacDennis, Charmac, Charden, Chardee?

ok this is gonna take a hot second. 

macdennis: mac & den are blood brothers and have been roommates for god knows how long. in a way, they get each other. maybe not on a level that dee and dennis get each other (because they’re twins) but they think similarly sometimes and just. have a dynamic together that makes them good in schemes when they work together. and hell, we know that at least in s12 (and early s13) mac has feelings for den beyond friendship which i feel like came about from finally giving into acknowledging feelings after years of repression and denial (since the first sign of feelings was ptsdee, right after coming out in hero or hate crime). so mayhaps we may get something out of this old married couple this season..... 

charmac: tender. they’ve been friends their entire lives so they know each other well, even if mac feels like he vibes more with dennis. they’ve been there for each other through thick & thin, through the tortures of their childhoods, and shared new experiences with each other no doubt. they’re sort of. childhood friends slow burn to lovers ya know. like they’ve always been close friends and in later years started becoming a little more than that, knowing they can count on each other and be able to reminisce together if they wanted. they’re just a wholesome duo when the show allows

charden: (ok really gonna try my best to stay out of tyler & i’s dark canon on this) perhaps not as wholesome as the other 2 but still has it’s softness. they don’t always meet eye to eye on their habits and thoughts but can still take some comfort in each other (i mean we did get the drinking to their trauma bit so). as far as an actual opinion, i’d say i’m a little more partial to the other two (unless thinking about dark canon) just because i feel like the dynamic of the others allows for a bit more tenderness and uhh clicking than charden really. but also my opinion is dumb and bad so

ch*rdee: ok i feel like after 2 posts (...more like 1 & a half) about it, yall would know my feelings on ch*rdee, so much so that i’m blocking it in the post but not the tags. i mean there’s some tender moments between them (like that season 1 scene where dee is wearing charlie’s jacket & a half of a second of charlie rules the world) and i hate to admit some of the fanart is actually cute. but the thing that makes me just. not want anything to do with it isn’t the fact that it’s a straight ship (and i’m a heterophobe) but the whole gang misses the boat incident that time’s up shed light on. like i really can’t excuse that instance like. at all. mostly because i love charlie so much. again, like i said on my first post about that incident, i don’t hate dee but also that was an extremely shitty move on her part. now i need to stop talking about it before it becomes a ramble
