i feel like fan works include a lot of clark and bruce meeting or interacting at a gala. is this something that actually happens a lot in comics? i can't think of any time this has actually happened in canon other than that one time in batman v superman

I don't think they meet for the first time at a ton of galas other than in BVS. There are several interactions that happen at galas in comics.

I think galas provide a very convenient and compelling vehicle for fic writers to create first/subsequent meetings. In no specific order:

they have to stick to their secret identities because they're being observed, which creates an interesting, if forced, scenario.

lots of room for OCs or in-universe characters to be mixed and matched depending on the situation at hand. oh you want Clark to be jealous of Bruce? let's have some models hanging off his arm. oh, this is about Bruce hiding injuries? let's have some random "friend" from polo come and whack him on the arm.

it's a somewhat plausible situation in which the press and the elite would, technically, be rubbing elbows. (as someone who attends galas occasionally I have some notes about how this is sometimes written, but it's usually plausible!) So Clark Kent might never see Bruce Wayne up close and in person if not in this capacity, at this event.

they allow for comparisons to be drawn. both Bruce and Clark can be shown acting in different capacities, identities, personas, etc than normal. they are both masters of their own respective games, and a gala is a great playing field to demonstrate this.

breaking the "rules" in this setting feels particularly egregious, and therefore desperate. does one of them truly feel a certain way they can't hide anymore? do they have some sort of intel that can't wait? when they meet up at a gala and pierce that invisible barrier between them, readers realize it's a big deal.

identity porn is 10x as compelling with an audience. "I know something no one else knows" is a powerful thought.

Galas are temporary, isolated events with clearly defined beginnings, ends, etc.

Gotham galas are known breeding grounds for chaos and random attacks.

Any accidental media exposure at a gala has the potential to make the tabloids/gossip rags and create greater interest in a certain pairing, occurrence, etc. If you're setting up a media push (cough cough, ASOH) that's a great place to do it.

As I noted above, I have some thoughts on how galas/reporters interact irl. I actually think the BVS gala scene was a really good example of that being a little more grounded -- Clark was invited on a press pass specifically to cover the literary (?) foundation. He was there mingling with guests specifically assigned questions (that were probably pre-approved by the foundation/hosts) and approached Bruce Wayne, who expected to give a canned quote to the random reporter, only for Clark to go off the rails and ask about Batman.

Summary: She's spent the last few months mourning her lost love. Can Aaron show her that love is never truly lost?

Authors note: I was listening to Begin Again by Taylor Swift today and this made me think of Aaron. This is the third story this song has inspired, by the way. I plan to write a version of this, sort of different, with Spencer Reid, because it'll be so great. Writing this made me wish I could go on a coffee date of my own with Aaron Hotchner. I have no beta, so all spelling and grammar mistakes are mine. I don't own the song, I just borrow it. Let me know what you think, and as always, enjoy!

This was my first date since things had ended. It was a regular Saturday morning. I slipped into my heels and fixed my hair, making sure I looked just right. I turned and locked the door, sliding my headphones in as I walked down the street, the warm sunshine falling on my shoulders. The song changes and I think about how my ex hated this song. 

It's one of my favorites, a song that makes my feet feel lighter as I walk down the street, approaching the coffee shop. I almost expect to be waiting, but to my surprise, I see him, leaning against the wall of the shop, his head focused on a phone in front of him. He looks up, and his eyes meet mine and I smile, as he waves at me. 

His hand rests on the small of my back as he guides me into the busy coffee shop, and to my surprise, he even pulls the chair out for me, helping me in as he takes his seat. Aaron Hotchner is gorgeous. His dark hair and dark eyes almost shine in the lights from the shop, making me smile at him as he sips his coffee and gives me his undivided attention. 

Aaron's an FBI agent, working for an elite unit that helps track down and put away dangerous criminals. He's observant, and funny and charming, his laugh ringing out as his head tips back. He tells me I'm funny, and it strikes me as odd, remembering how my ex always said I couldn't land a joke ever. I'd spent the last 10 months watching love fall apart and burn. 

We shared the same love of music, talking about our favorite artists and our favorite dishes and musicals, his face is animated, lit up from within as he talks about everything, including his son Jack. He shows me a picture, and the boy is adorable, with the same hair and eyes as Aaron. He tells me about his job, about his team and it's clear he cares for them. 

He's so serious, but at the same time, the warmth that I feel as he talks to me, as he laughs at my jokes makes my heart skip a beat. I look up at him shyly as he keeps his hand on the small of my back, guiding me through the busy crowds. He catches my gaze and as my cheeks flush a delicate shade of pink, he just grins down at me, his eyes twinkling with a hidden laugh. 

It's enough to make me swoon, and I know I'm a goner, even as we walk in the park, as we find out we share favorite movies and favorite foods. But it's the way he's genuinely interested in me, the way he gives me his undivided attention, those gorgeous brown eyes of his staring into mine. He's so handsome, so graceful, so kind. 

I've never had kind before. It's nice, as we walk back out of the park, and back to the coffee shop, where his car is parked. I meet his eyes. "I had so much fun today, Aaron," I said softly. I watch him smile, that twinkle in his eyes that makes my heart skip a beat again, as he looks down at me, the wind ruffling his dark hair, his leather jacket over his black polo shirt reminding me of how handsome he is. 

"I did too." He says, looking down at me. I hold his gaze, my lips pulling up into a smile, as he goes from charming man to fumbling schoolboy, as he asks for my number. He tells me he's busy, that his job sometimes demands that he's gone for work more than he'd like, but he seems sincere in his desire to get to know me better, so I give him my number. 

The smile that spreads across his face makes me melt. Aaron is gorgeous, and kind and funny, but his smile warms my heart, and when he directs it at me, it's like I'm the only person in the entire world and I never want to lose that feeling. It reminds me of standing in the warm sunshine on a cold winter morning, sipping hot tea and I want him to be a part of my life. 

And then he hugs me, wrapping his strong arms around my body, pulling me in close. It's the best hug I've ever got in my life and the warm feeling that continues to spread through me as he holds me makes me hold onto him tighter. "I'll see you again, right?" I asked him, as I pulled back from the hug and watched him shoot me that charming smile again, the one he doesn't even realize is charming. 

"Of course, honey." He says and I melt again, the affectionate word making me swoon again. I lean up on impulse, pressing my soft lips to his cheek, feeling the stubble there. "I can't wait to see you again, Aaron," I murmur, as we go our separate ways. I make it home, and as I close my front door, my phone buzzes with a text: Aaron. 

"I had such a good time with you today. Dinner Friday?" 

The text makes me grin, leaning against the door, as my heart beats faster, as I slide down the door and think about after watching my love fall apart, watching it burn and break and hurt, I'm right back where I started, watching love begin again. I send him a text back, a large grin on my face. "Yes. Dinner sounds wonderful, Aaron." 

On a Saturday, in a coffee shop, Aaron Hotchner gave me hope for love anew, and I was going to hold onto this with both hands. Something told me not to let him go, that Aaron Hotchner, was special. I'd find out later just how right I was.

I feel like he has the most elite music taste of them all. He is very smart and well-read, so I feel like he would be the type of person to be picky about the music he listens to.

However, I think he also has the most all-over-the-place taste, meaning he would listen to every genre. There is a playlist on his phone for every person in his life, with songs both he and the other person would enjoy.

It is canon that he has the best singing voice, but he doesn't sing often. He does know the lyrics to every song tho.

He would be the guy to have his headphones on often, but he's not always listening to music. He just doesn't want other people to talk to him.

ELITE UPDATE 2: THREE SEASONS FINISHED

Ookayyy let's go so my first elite (let's say review) was after watching just 4 episodes and forming a holy shit amount of opinions for every character coz boy was I wrong..anyways I just finished 3 seasons of elite!.. like wow can't believe that. so let's talk about it. Firstly I get that this is a murder mystery show but like do we get someone or the other getting killed of in the end or like what? okay first things first I said some wild things about some of my babies and i really wanna retract my statement because these people are my babies.. guzman, lu, omar and ander lord i had absolutely no idea that there characters would be here now, like god! okay nadia and guzman I was shipping it then and I am shipping it now (although they broke up, but fuck that! they're still together for me) yeah, so like, believe me no one I repeat not a single person saw the whole nadia and lu friendship coming , like it literally hit me and I was like wha-

THE throuple ended, some people died and we got our second favorite couple - samuel and carla!! aghhh they were soo cute. love them so much! just fyi if you also love them, then don't see the short stories they literally broke up every single couple in there) now coming back to the elephant in the room- POLO*** jesus but I from a hundred miles away could not even think this was gonna happen, like my 1st update is evidence of that, I was so indifferent towards him coz I just didn't care! he was a sidekick imo but somehow this guy even after MURDERING someone made me feel sympathetic for him!! for a murderer like how did they do that!? Polo's death actually made me cry more than marina's ( never liked her but still). He was going through so much . He was in pain. like watching him struggle through life was insanely difficult and his mom supporting patriarchy after being in a lesbian relationship was another level of rage for me. But boy the guy did have a thing for throuples (I am still wrapping my head around the first one) ooh and newbies-- cayetana ,rebeka ( not sure i spelled it right), valerio (*heart eyes*) oh and emir ( idk if that's the name but carla's rich bf) These people somehow pulled the rug right out of my feet. Valerio was in the headlines in s2 and s3. Firstly s2 the whole thing with lu..ooh but that was a bit (no actually very much) weird. Let's not go there. Yeah and the whole cayetana thing..nicee ( as in story wise not in disrespecting your mother for her work wise) i don't really like her tbh but I have a strong gut feeling that I would eventually end up loving her. I still wanna say sorry to guzman. You're the best srsly. samuel I love you, but what you did to rebeka was wrong. So fuck you ( but like gently) yeah uhm rebeka.. okay so new story and lots of drama *widens eyes* obv I love her like how could anyone NOT love her. She's a total babe. ugh this is getting really long okay yeah so about my future elite plans...? none for now, I feel like s3 ended on a good note for me. And if I am being honest. I dug up a bit and found out that samuel and guzman have some beef over a girl in s4 and I am def not in the mood for seeing there friendship get messed up. So yeah for now it's a goodbye to elite. I feel like there should be one more update coz I missed some major plot points like the whole ander and omar thing, and nadia's dad and yeah lu and party scene but *shrugs* let's see.

I just heard Elite ended so I'm really in the mood for some threads involving the boys from the series. I'll be real, I had to tap out the season after the original murder mystery died off, so any plots/characters we write will be based off of the first three or four seasons. At least until I catch up.

Nano is conditionally attached to the nunier family forever

Samuel is also tangentially involved with this family unit

Guzmán is absolutely one of the named characters most likely to end up at least semi-responsible for a human child (certainly isn’t marina or nano), apart from samuel and nano’s mother and the assorted nunier family servants who presumably did such a banging job raising him and marina

Assuming Omar/ander and Nadia/Guzmán still happen you’ve very quickly taken this sitch from a high school soap opera to an extended family soap opera where almost everyone is somehow related.
