Thinking about the fact that, to pull Gale from the stone and get him in the game at all, you have to decide to try to touch an extremely dangerous looking swirling mass of unstable magic. Something that is, objectively, a terrible idea

Like, the options it gives you are to either touch the sigil or leave, and if you leave you just... don't get Gale in the party

You have to take the risk. You have to let your curiosity override your common sense. You have to look at this unstable, possibly dangerous malfunctioning magic sigil and go "...Ok, but what if I poke it?"

In short, to get Gale in your party, you have to do exactly what he would in that situation, and indulge in a moment of reckless curiosity. And I just think that's delightful

Luffy took ONE look at loid and internally went 'oh sweet. He's a spy like sabo' and never brings it up while anya just stares at him horrified and like with ace and sabo, he just never brings it up.

This also happens with yor and anya makes a funny noise

I think loid’s a good enough actor that luffy wouldn’t figure it out immeditely from like just a few seconds of meeting him but give him a minute or a few and he’ll figure it out on vibes alone

artfight is coming up & i heavily encourage everyone who's on that refs crunch to think about the readability of their character references. i am low vision literally wrestling w/ someone's fursona rn for a way overdue commission the design is super fucking cool but the pose & everything else makes it completely unreadable. the dragon tail merges w/ the outlines of the reference i was given so it looks like a thorax unless i really fuckin strain to look closer

i used to struggle immensely w/ commissions for many reasons (and still do) but the one that i keep coming back to is that the references were just hard as fuck to parse. lots of dark characters on dark backgrounds w/ confusing silhouettes. many notes about backstory but never about the design itself. love that your guy is a exiled demonlord whose body changes color depending on heat what the fuck does that look like

what works for me personally is stuff like this

i rarely have the spoons or just the time to do full turnarounds so i just cram everything into an offwhite square. i never handwrite any of my references bc i want to minimize the amount of straining to parse words. if i do use words i use dyslexia-friendly fonts

the amount of information on references is so goddamn important. maximalist references chock full of stuff are fucking awesome if they're readable. however i do not need to know your guy's star sign or likes & dislikes if i'm drawing them. if i'm really dying for someone to know a thing about a character like that i'll draw it in bw or as simply as possible (or just make it a separate image)

so on & so forth. many arguments about disability & accessibility where the crux is "we have to sacrifice things that look nice for things that work good" function over form or w/e. digital art is cool coz you don't fucking have to do that. you can do your color-changing exiled demonlord list his star signs & backstory if you prioritize visual clarity instead of his star signs & backstory.

no one knows what your oc looks like except for you. & people enjoy drawing the things that they can see

Do you think Orym will eventually take a paladin class, or will he stay fighter all the way through? I personally want him to stay fighter, I think it’d be nice to have a character with a connection to a god even if it’s not like “formalized” or whatever

Absolutely no way to know, but I agree that at least at this time, I'd rather see Orym stay purely a fighter. I think it's interesting and important to show characters who have a relationship to a deity that isn't the source of their powers (not that the Relic of the Red Solstice Exalted Seedling isn't cool, but he could get another powerful sword if he wanted...Ishta is still in the bag of holding, after all) and I think that the way he described his relationship, as partners rather than a worshiper, feels like he is not planning on swearing any oaths.
