Character inspiration meme! (I was linked this one!) Noa Hidalgo - Giovanni. Now it's not really CHARACTERS that inspire my OCs, but I think the situations and styles and concepts - but these are some that I get an idea of her from! Connie Corleone - Noa is the youngest child and only daughter of a mafia family. When I was first making her family for a server years ago I gave her three older brothers and she was the only girl, and then I realized later I must have subconsciously envisioned the Corleone siblings while making her! Lucrezia Borgia - She would love to rule despite her initial station, and of course... her older brother.... that is my favorite painting of Lucrezia temporarily serving as Pope. Hades - Noa is not the delicate flower, she is no mother or bride, she is King (in her head) - And of course necromancy, housing the dead, commanding the dead. Dolores Haze - She's been put on a pedestal and gawked at from a young age. Her older brother has convinced the both of them they are in love - though Noa starts seeing a bit different when she's finally free of the family compound (this is early in her Kindred life) Laura Palmer - The moodiness of the show, the vibe of seeking angels when you feel so alone and taken advantage of by those you're supposed to trust the most Drusilla - Has such a style I love. Still dressing delicately despite being the most fierce person in the room. Noa is not a doll, she just loves dressing like a cream puff. In a world where it's macho men and sleek dressed Aunties, sometimes it's just as brave to be in your puffy sleeves and soft pink skirts!

Character inspiration meme!

Anyway! Explanations go:

1 - Bloodborne - Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower - largely self-explanatory. I would have exchanged her for Genshin's Raiden Shogun for the more accurate "draws swords from own body" visual, BUT the fun part is I actually didn't know she did that. So the Baal sword and Mael's solid shadow weapons are a complete coincidence 💀

Furthermore, Lady Maria's general aesthetic influenced my own design a good deal. Sadly, necromancers can't wear medium armor.

2 - Hollow Knight - God of Gods/Shade Lord - just the vibes for his Shroud... or is it something more? :P I guess we shall see once I iron out some plot points. Some people might know because I rant in DMs. Devouring darkness my beloved. Inspiration for a potential "corrupted form" for a fractal where the story went really wrong.

3 - Norse Mythology - Fenrir - core inspiration. Chain/binding motif, being something dangerous, even to gods. Power that needs suppressing. Everlasting hunger, being the doomed being with the potential to doom others in return. A... specific relationship with the sun. A certain someone losing a hand within the mouth of the beast.

His swords are named Dromi and Lædingr after the first two chains that bound Fenrir. He's currently looking for a way to devise a "perfect spell" to allow complete control over his volatile magic and stop the demon essence from further warping his body and affecting his mind - that spell, or perhaps item, being Gleipnir.

4 - Tower of God - Khun Aguero Agnes - personality and mannerisms inspiration, particularly post-The Departing. "The Commander when he locks the fuck in." Devilishly intelligent and not afraid to utilize underhanded methods, but ultimately a good person. A true silver tongue. Moderately to severely grumpy at times. Dramatic flair. Gay boy rizz.

5 - Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress - Ikoma - the survivor. Undead but won't take the L and keeps on going no matter what. Self-engineered restraints to keep his affliction under control, dog motif, being willing to do terrible things to his own body simply to stop himself becoming a monster. A heart replaced by a core.

6 - Legend of Vox Machina - Percy de Rolo - I have actually not watched this show yet (I really damn need to) the visuals, the gunplay, the demonic possession and those deep black eyes with yellow irises? Checks out. I made Mael in 2014, so, again, coincidence, but it's a really good-looking coincidence :-)

I wasn't tagged, just seen this template from others and wanted to try making one of my own for a long time, and of course this weird guy was the one to get it. Tagging @el-is-away <3 whoever you want; @rostomanologist shaking you; @awerzo 👀

The characters are as follows:

1. Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy — The Witcher (both the series and the third game) Major inspiration overall. An ancient humane monster, someone who helps people of his own volition and doesn't allow himself be swept by desires. A scholar, witty and not easily frightened. Posessing immense power, but choosing to be kind instead, settling with humans rather than his own kind.

I also enjoy the way higher vampires in the setting fight while in more humanoid form, or at least how it was portrayed in the game — using elongated nails/claws that can cut through steel. Eamhrys does that too a little bit, as a treat :)

2. Merlin — The Arthurian Legend (alternatively, Gandalf — Lord of The Rings, both work) It is that old man rizz and tendency to be an advisor who comes up with clever ways to escape a given situation. Mysterious wizard in comfortable clothes that comes to your rescue and guides you on an adventure. Not so much an inspiration story-wise, wouldn't know where to fit that... Though it would be fun to explore. It also amuses me to have a Merlin-inspired-ish character, when sylvari lore and characters reflect the Arthurian legend, with a sacred sword and all :D The fact both have shape-shifting abilities was a complete coincidence, but a lovely one.

They also share a name, somewhat! The character of Merlin incorporated the stories of Ambrosius Aurelianus (or Emrys Wledig in Welsh) in his legend, and shared his name. "Emrys" means "immortal", and "Eamhrys" is a different-sounding variant i came up with.

3. Iroh — Avatar: The Last Airbender A journey of a brilliant man sent to war, wrecked by grief after the loss of someone dear to him and abandoning his post. A journey of gaining clarity and finding balance between all the elements. A journey of caring, kindness and spirituality, looking after someone. A terrific mastery over fire. Determination and forgiveness. And, however amusing that may be, great love for tea, be it making or sharing it.

4. Greed — Fullmetal Alchemist (picture from Brotherhood) It was more of a subconscious inspiration, than direct, i didn't remember he existed at the time :,D However, his Ultimate Shield form design has influenced both the champion and humanoid forms of Eamhrys. Sharp claws that can cut steel, regeneration (even though it's separate from the form..), that devil face with scary fangs and teeth. Black eyes, as if posessed. Those also somewhat come from the vampire design in anime Shiki as well! But, of course, there are many examples of the same all over media.

5. Stitch — Lilo and Stitch A surprising one, huh? But his story is very fitting. An artificially created being, one made to destroy, wreaking havoc being its only purpose. A creature that has nothing except its instincts, not even fond memories to look back to in the night. Someone who struggles with their own nature at every turn, but who learns, listens and eventually finds family in those around them despite all the hardship.

Some features Stitch's design were also something i subconsciously incorporated into Eamhrys'. A lot of coincidences here :,D

6. Emmrich Volkarin — Dragon Age: Veilguard This is a recent one, yeah... The game isn't even out yet, but the vibes of this man are top notch. Exactly what i envision for my guy, if a little more reserved with wardrobe choices. A kind, respectful, caring older gentleman with somewhat creepy origins and job? Give me two.

How Otsana was inspired and created! :D and I just did a doodle of her ;w;

•The Smiler (Alton Towers) A Scientist and Hypnotist for the Ministry/the Sanctuary. A very rare case of a supernatural being joining them.

•Mezmehr (from Darbi) inspiration for his white and gray colors and the spots on him. Especially when he created a bright light to stun his enemies out of the air. (I still recommend y’all reading it.) So I wanted to Otsana to have simple white and gray colors while she holds the Ministry’s yellow colors on her.

•Werewolf (Dogman or Lycan) I thought it would be interesting for her to be a werewolf and for the Ministry to understand that beyond “normal” things, beings like her are real and perhaps… they to can experience JOY.

•Nyra (Legends of the Guardians (Movie version)) for her personality. Appearing “kind” to those who joined, but will be intimidating to those who resist.

•Faputa (Made in Abyss) Her fighting abilities. Otsana will give the person a final chance if they accept the Ministry’s “help”. If not, and if they kept resisting she will terminate them. Also, extra inspiration is for the arms! Otsana’s fluff on her arms while she’s a hybrid.

•Vyrrwolf (Wolves of the Beyond) the ability to do hypnosis under the yellow light they cast from their eyes. Especially the part where their power increases under the full moon. Kinda like how Otsana’s Hypnotic abilities can increase under the Full Moon.

•The Sisters (Kubo and the Two Strings) Rooney Mara. Just how creepily beautiful she played The Sisters so well! I rewatched clips of the movie and I forgot how awesome they are. So! I HC Otsana’s VA claim is Rooney Mara :3

I've seen this going around and it looks fun so I decided to be self indulgent. Wheh.

My boy Absence is the result of a several million years old himbo alien robot, a dragon girl from a kids videogame, a greek myth, an edgy imp digimon, a literal horse, and Eomer, but put them all in a blender for a dnd game and get overly attached and emotional about it. All except two of these rewired my brain as a 11 year old. And that's my boy Absence, my 6’5’’ crybaby babygirl blorbissimo gladiator.

Really, these are more “parallels” than inspirations, since I didn’t really design my characters with personalities in mind, they just kinda evolved organically. Still, these examples give you a bit of insight in to how I perceive my band of dorks.

my friends did this meme for their characters forever ago, and it took me just SO long to even think of mine, or remember them all. well if you'll excuse me, here are my character inspirations for atticus and mac!

i had to make the template more fun. i had to. staring at all of this, it just makes me happy to know how interwoven all of the influences are. the process of creation is just so beautiful.

fun fact is, atticus' name was almost simon! not because of the simon in this diagram though, it just suited him. i think it still does, but atticus will always be atticus. i'd say the biggest inspirations character-wise are dr. david bowman and the biologist, but aesthetically, david byrne in this video. shocking!

for mac, i feel like he is an even split between them all. but i always find myself coming back to travis and mike, because they hail from two of my favorite movies of all time. it's so hard to choose. if it hasn't been made clear already, i could write a novel on this.

some of the others for atticus specifically were sigma from overwatch, and a blend of gus fring and walter white from breaking bad lol. i think the latter duo were the first influences, bc i'd tried watching the show in 2016, around when i made him. but really, only early seasons walter. the "yeah science" interaction stays on my mind for these two.. always will.
