She was rooting through Morrigan's pack when the other woman came up behind her, pointedly clearing her throat. Liall ignored her, pulling out a small bundle and giving it a sniff before putting it back. "'Tis fascinating, this blatant disregard for property." She shrugged.

"Where are the herbs you packed three weeks ago?" She pulled out another package as she spoke, sniffing it before returning it with a sigh.

"Used, I'm afraid. Now will you desist in examining my every belonging?"

"We need to get more." She set the pack aside with a sigh. "You gathered them at the edge of the forest, yes? What is their range?"

"Why this interest? They are not overly useful herbs. Good for tender stomachs." She could tell without looking that Morrigan's expression was contemptuous. "Your fellow warden complained far too much about a meal not sitting well. Perhaps he will be more cautious about trying Antivan fare next time."

"My stomach is fine," was all Liall said. They were still within the forest. She knew that matters were pressing, so they could not afford the time to double back. However, if they angled towards the margins of the forest, they might be able to find another patch.

"Why the interest?" Morrigan pressed.

"Their smell."

"Pardon?"

Liall turned to look at her. She had not seen this expression often, Morrigan's features contorted with surprise. "Their smell," she repeated slowly. "We passed a carcass yesterday. It had been sitting out for a while. The odor reminded me of something."

"The herbs?" She nodded. "I admit, they have a curious scent, but I would not compare it to a corpse."

"Rot," Liall began, "not all the rest. That sweet scent which makes you feel ill. But the herb, you say it calms upset stomach? Curious. I need to compare the two. Similar scent, or the same? What is the function of the herb smelling that way?"

"Is this really—"

"Things prey on carcasses," she continued, speaking over Morrigan, "perhaps the herb is trying to draw them. For pollination? For protection? Why? How? Maybe they grow near death. Need to see it growing. Won't need long." She was talking to herself now, but Morrigan was still standing there. The look she gave Liall was a familiar one. Some concern. Some confusion. A lot of discomfort.

Oh well.

"Tomorrow we'll head east. Keep an eye out for another patch. Won't add more than a half-day."

"I see." Morrigan's voice was crisp and a little cold. She was not happy. Might be angry. Liall suspected she didn't like being told what to do. "Goodnight, warden." A dismissal. Liall headed off towards the tent she shared with Leliana.

Kevin McCormick, how to not mischaracterize him:

this is a rant about my favorite background character and I first want to start it with my first complaint; PLEASE STOP MAKING KEVIN AN ABSENT OLDER BROTHER WHO HATES HIS FAMILY AND RUNS AWAY WHILE LETTING HIS SIBLINGS DIE.

Look I get it, kevin has like 6 scenes in the entire 26 seasons of sp while karen has a centric episode and vurnble scenes that make you get to know her better therefore making her easier to characterize than kevin+ kevin hardly interacts with kenny. But here I am to tell you that making him absent is way more of a mischaracterization than making him be there with his siblings but not interact as much.

"But egg, when kevin was fighting with his dad, Carol said that they were both drunk pices of shit while holding a crying karen!!" Kenny also gets high all the time and has shown to have an addiction to it. Sure, kenny as a character has never shown to be violent like kevin has but it is implied that he also has beaten his parents as mystyrion.

"But Kenny was doing it so he could protect his siblings!" Guys, I'll hold your hand when I say this; kevin has shown multiple times that he cares a LOT for his siblings I want to point out:

notice how when Stuart starts screaming at karen for wanting ice cream Kevin is the first one who gets immediately angery but then shows empathy and worriedness when kenny runs after her

Alsooo Kevin is the one who when they put in the orphanage is looking around all worried and suspicious

I think Kevin truly does care about his siblings but he has a hard time expressing it so instead he tries his best to protect them even if that means he'll look like a 'bad' guy in front of his siblings.

If you still are struggling with Kevin's character a more easy guide is to think of it as kenny if he had anger issues. Kenny and Kevin have a LOT of similar traits (I.e when Stuart and Carol start fighting they both start laughing, they both love food, thay both are willing to hurt other ppl for their siblings etc) but kevin is more short tempered which tbh is to be expected; he is a teenager living in a house where screaming and fighting is normal, a house where he can't be listened without screaming (mind you, heard and listened are two VERY different things). He is in a part of his life when he is brimming with emotions and to add onto that he has one-if not, the shittiest home situations in south park.

Okay VERY far fetched hc but; when Kevin gets mad his voice deepens and it makes him sound more intimidating so what if a reason Kenny deepens his voice when he is mystiorion is bc he wants to sound more intimate like his big brother.

he really likes arts bc in the episode where they go to the circus while everyone else was getting bored Kevin looked genuinely entertained and when mop was performing everyone else looked terrified ecxept kevin who was just enjoying his time and supporting his brother's dreams.

Another farfetched hc; I think that it's more likely for Kevin to have smth sort of the same curse as kenny bc he seems very Pernoid and scared most of the time same like kenny.

he has absolutly no sense of fashion and frankly...he dosent care, hell wear what the heck is in front of him as long as it keeps him warm. (smth that probably runs in his blood bc tell me why both kenny and kevin looked like they just came out of a trash can in post covid)

He has veryy thick brows bc in the show even though e doesnt talk a lot (like kenny) we understand what he is feeling cuz his brows are constantly showing. which leads me to the next point...

he has a hard time hiding emotion. he is so expressionante- when he gets angry he clutches his fists and looks at the ground, his brows frown hard and he grints his teeth (and how i mentioned earlier that his voice gets deeper ). when he is worried it seems like all the mountness layers and threatning words melt down and so does his face. he looks way younger and he hides away behind the other kids (as seen in the scene where that one kid was getting doctor peppered in the orphange episode)

if you read this thank you so so much and i really hope one day there will be more fics where kevin is a good brother who works through his issues with the help of his siblings and gets as much attention as karen.

I feel like Flowey is the the type of person who would rather have a nightmare rather than a sweet dream. Because think of it like this; when you wake up from a nightmare, you get reminded that it’s just a dream, and dreams can’t hurt you. However, when you wake up from a good dream, about being happy with loved ones, wouldn’t you also be sad? Because of course, it just a dream and dreams aren’t real.

Y’all, Shinsou Hitoshi’s character development is actually pretty subtle, but definitely noticeable if you rewatch the first season he appears in mha after watching later seasons. This is most likely due to him having a mentor now, and yes he was an ass in the sports festival arc, but he’s definitely grown as a person(character) since then. Although I have not gotten to watch season seven yet, you can really see a clear example of the way he applies himself in the class a vs class b training battles.

First off, he now has support gear, which is super important(in my opinion) for heroes in training to have and even pro heroes. Because quirks are just tools if you think about it. I’ll go into a rant about that in another post, but the point is our insomniac has more versatility with his quirk than in the sports festival arc.

Also, he’s a very clever guy. Dude taunted people in the sports festival just to gain control of them. Not only is that super smart, but it’s also chaotic af and I love that he’s an actually menace to society. In the class training battles, his support gear helped alter his voice so his opponents would be more susceptible to responding to his voice. It’s absolutely insane and I love the thought that was put into his costume design.

I’m not entirely sure if Shinsou is planning on being an underground hero like Eraserhead(I’m almost positive he is, but I don’t want to spread false information), but his quirk would excel in hostage situations, robberies, and assisting with arrests.

I feel like he’s an amazing character for mha! I just love analyzing characters, so if you have any requests feel free to use up my ask inbox!!

Adam from Sk8 wasn’t grooming Miya or Langa, he just wants the perfect skateboarding partner.

Also Reki is the 3rd wheel (but it’s just a metaphor)

I have a few things to address here, so this'll be a long one sorry

the first thing is what grooming is on a technical level

Grooming, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary is "the practice of preparing or training someone for a particular purpose or activity." Another definition from the Oxford Dictionary, more aligned with what you mean is that Grooming is "the action of attempting to form a relationship with a child or young person, with the intention of sexually assaulting them or inducing them to commit an illegal act such as selling drugs or joining a terrorist organization."

while my essay does talk about the idea of romantic grooming with Miya, due to my belief that Adam has romantic ideals with Eve, it could still fit the bounds of the first definition. Miya being groomed by Adam can still be fitting as simply him being groomed into the purpose of being Eve as a skating partner. Miya can be seen as being groomed for the purpose of keeping up with Adam and being Eve, as Adam did keep an eye on Miya, had contact with him, influence over him, and a connection with him. it may not have been the creepy romantic connection that I think is possible, but Adam still created that link with him and Miya.

by building a bond and watching over Miya, Adam can still be read as possibly grooming Miya into Eve. he was influential over Miya while being a powerful adult. it may not have been romantic, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't creepy and that the subtext of grooming isn't there.

and on Langa - I don't think he was grooming him, I think he was outright harassing him. the touching, the stalking (as in the videos he played on loop of Langa at S), the way he spoke to him, all of that feels more like harassment than just grooming. even though it wasn't aggressive in the way of violence, it was aggression in the way of assertiveness - he wouldn't back down.

second thing, I'm not the type to not explain why I believe something, so below outlines the reasons I believe that Adam has romantic intent with his Eve

the first thing is the actual implications of him calling himself Adam and his goal being to find his Eve. Biblically, Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, made as the perfect partners. they were also married, a romantic connection, not platonic. while Adam may be searching for someone who's the perfect skateboarding partner, I am not about to ignore how he is using a romantic couple to describe his desire. like most things in Adam's character, his name and who he is looking for are chosen for a reason. by taking on the title of Adam searching for Eve, he is saying that he is a man who is looking for his other half, he is a man looking for his wife. he could have gone with a platonic duo - he could have been Apollo looking for Artemis, that would give him the sense of looking for someone who he would consider a twin in skating skill, a twin is also an equal. just, there are other options when looking for a duo, rather than Adam and Eve who have a romantic relationship as husband and wife. it doesn't give off a "I'm looking for a solely platonic skating partner who can keep up with me" but a "I'm looking for someone who can be my partner in skiing and life" vibe.

Another thing is that Adam has a strong motif surrounding love. His moves are called things like "Love Hug" and "Full-Swing Kiss", and his nickname is "the Matador of Love". to me, all of this screams that his whole thing is love - and more specifically romance. these names were deliberately chosen, just like his name was, and when they're combined they don't come off as platonic. also on the romantic sense of his motif, is that his costume. the costume Adam wears is red, the colour of passion, love, and sexuality. it also has love hearts on both his belt and his mask. I want to clarify that I say "love heart" because that is what it's called, a heart would be the one we have in our chest even if the love heart is the popularized heart. everything here symbolizes love, and not the platonic kind. platonic love is symbolized with yellow roses or more commonly the colour pink, which also represents love but also innocence. finally, with the love motif, is his skateboard. the skateboard Adam rides has the word "love" on the top, designs of a heart in numerous locations, with the main painting on the bottom being of a heart, and says "til death do us part" on the bottom. already, it follows his love and heart theme, but the most important evidence to romance specifically is the bottom having a wedding vow on it - as "til death do us part" is a part of wedding vows, meaning the wedded couple will love each other until one of them dies.

Third, is Adam's own actions and his words. the first thing that comes to my mind that shows romantic intent is the roses he gives to Langa. more specifically, Adam gives Langa red roses - in flower language, red roses mean passion, romantic love, and desire. they can also mean true love and devotion. if Adam wanted to say that he was platonic towards his longing to Langa, he should've used yellow roses, as they do symbolize platonic love. the scene of him coming up to Langa and dramatically presenting him red roses right before the race, already seems romantic with the intent to court him. the line of him in the sub saying that they represent "passionate love" does not help. the second thing I can think of is literally the first time they interact, when Adam talks about Langa's footing. the way he stands over him, leaning in and the smirk - all of it is too close. then, if Reki hadn't said anything, Adam likely would've continued gesturing over Langa's leg, and maybe moved to possibly actually touching him while Langa doesn't yet consent. even without actually touching him, the motions are creepy enough - the scene is shrouded in darkness, and gives a less than okay feeling. there are also the lines I mention Adam outright saying to Miya in my essay, about falling in love with those he skates against. while yeah, you can say you fall in love platonically, given the other parts of Adam, it seems more likely he means it romantically towards skaters who are a challenge to him.

all of these things pile up to make me believe that Adam does not view Eve as a platonic skating partner. Adam and Eve were completely romantic, Adam's naming and costume motifs are very romantic love orientated, and his own actions towards Langa - who he considers his Eve - come across as courting and romantic.

finally, on Reki being the third wheel

Reki is the protagonist. you consume the story from his point of view. that includes his self worth issues and his feeling like that third wheel. because of this, Reki does come off as the third wheel, when arguably, Adam would be the actual third wheel in that trio.

looking outside of Reki, Langa, and Adam, there are many trios and third wheels. Young Adam, Cherry, and Joe have Joe as a third wheel and as adults Adam can be seen as the third wheel there. Langa, Reki, and Miya have Miya as a third wheel. there are so many third wheel type trios that can be built up within Sk8 the Infinity, that you can identify more than one.

Reki, Langa, and Adam are the main third wheel trio. Reki and Langa are a duo with Adam as a third wheel. this is because Reki and Langa are best friends, they're meant to be together to compliment and uplift each other. Adam can act as a third wheel here because he's the one trying to steal Langa's attention, who persuades Langa to race him and then kind of forces him into it because of the competition that he sets up. yet, in Reki's point of view, he's the third wheel because Langa and Adam are such talented skaters and he cannot keep up with them, therefore falling behind. Reki is the third wheel because he doesn't think he'll be able to beat Adam or Langa ever, not realizing that his skating skills don't matter to Langa.

the perspective of a story is what matters.

shifting that perspective to Langa, Miya, and Adam - as I did - gives you a new trio to inspect. this is the trio of two extremely talented skaters, and the skater who has talent but just falls short. Miya becomes the third wheel because he's a prodigy just like the other two, but he's lost passion and stopped working hard on his skating, which in turn holds the potential that Adam lost interest in him because of that. then, Adam saw Langa and his current passion, and switched his focus to him, putting Langa on the pedestal that is Eve, the pedestal that Miya might have been originally meant for before he lost his passion.

the trios and their third wheels all depend on who you are focusing on and what aspects of their characters you are looking at. that is what I was able to write an essay centring around Miya and his being left behind as an Eve candidate

my last thing is simply that I am an analyst. I look at characters, I look at motifs, I look at the text and the subtext of media. through this, I build my thoughts, my opinions, my ideas, just as anyone else does. when I watched Sk8 the Infinity, I found hints towards grooming towards Miya, harassment to Langa, and romantic feelings towards the concept of Eve from Adam. anyone else can watch it and see what I see or see something completely different, it all depends on the person and how they look at the text and subtext.

thank you for the ask, I actually enjoyed writing all of this out, it gave me a chance to go even deeper into Adam's characters and intents which I never thought to make a proper essay of. not that this is a proper essay, but it is a full response with reasoning still. hope that this explains why I wrote my essay on Adam grooming Miya, and provides an interesting and new look at the character.

Looking at PYWWR Tsumugi is sooooo interesting, mainly because there's a HUGE debate on whether or not Drag is Cosplay or a form of it.

It also hits harder bc of Ryo's role in creating both the killing game and the tragedy AND was working with The Steering Committee. He was playing both sides, he was writing the story how he wanted it to go. He played a major part in the creation of Izuru then turned around and used that against HPA. This is very apparent even in Canon when Junko is literally writing Dr0, and how everything was set up by her to create a story.

PYWWR Tsumugi wants to BE Ryo, not Junko. Sure, she's the Icon, the face, everyone LOVES her and so does Tsumugi.

I feel this works well with her Canonical self, but its emphasized with the distinction of Ryo and Junko and Ryo's OWN issues regarding himself and his identity.

To put it best: think of one of the first things she says. She love making cosplay, but doesn't think people love them enough to have the privilege to wear them.

She loves creating things, but she has to play those roles bc no one loves it enough.

She loves Junko, but she doesn't think anyone else deserves to play her role.

He loves Junko, but wants to be Ryo.

But Ryo has to be Junko.

So Tsumugi has to be Junko.

Dr eggman analysis from the first 4 classic games:

Okay so I basically just decided to finally play sonic origins story mode (and knuckles's story later), and reading the original Manuels, I'm just gonna make an analysis of his character from the first 4 classic games.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (1991)

First things first: dr eggman's always Sonic's enemy before the first sonic game. But a few things I noticed:

#1, despite being motivated to take over the world, he is always focus on sonic the hedgehog, as he sees himself as the nemesis of sonic. This definitely ties into his egotistical and narcissistic behavior, as he sees himself as so much more, while sonic doesn't as he always beats him. Eggman finally makes himself more threatening by using animals inside the robots to beat sonic once and for all.

#2, once he heard about the chaos emeralds, he never cares about destroying the environment around him. If he wants to get what he wants, he will do anything in his power to obtain the chaos emeralds.

#3, sonic 1 is the first time eggman uses robots that have animals inside robots. In sonic 1's Manuel, it is stated that he did this to turn the island's wild life against sonic himself. This is where he is confident that this plan still works, as in later games up until even now, he still uses animals as batteries for his robots.

#4, eggman's line "Sonic... that annoying, cheeky hedgehog. He's the one who's always ruining my great plans. This time, I'm going to crush him with the power of my science! Heheheh..." is the very first example of dr eggman's self love. And not the kind of self love where you think he wants everyone to love him cuz of the fact that you're not good enough, NO, eggman's self love is genuine and he has alot of it here. Eggman's confidence is always genuine when he wants to beat sonic, as he always states that his plans are great, and he will crush him with the power of HIS science. He is truly confident that he will beat sonic every time, and let's be honest even in later games, he came so close to doing so. The confidence is so genuine, it actually makes me love him.

SONIC ORIGINS cutscene.

One thing I noticed that I MIGHT misinterpret on this cutscene of the first game, is that eggman is gesturing sonic to go after him. He is SO confident in his plan, that he will deliberately let sonic go after him cuz he thinks he can actually beat sonic this time around. (At least... I think?? Idk, these cutscenes don't have much dialogue, so I'm probably interpreting it wrong. But to be fair, it wouldn't be out of character either.)

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG CD.

After his defeat in the first sonic game, eggman took notice of little planet.

After reading this, I noticed a one thing.

When eggman sees sonic, he just shrugs it off as convenient and just shoots him. Eggman definitely still has that confidence that he can beat sonic from the 1st games as he had a fearless smile. This time, he plans to use the time stones to take over the world. This guy's confidence is SO great, it genuinely makes me love him.

Fun fact: the CD manuel story is a retelling of the game's opening cutscene.

Metal sonic is stated to have the same level of abilities as sonic and can go faster. Eggman shows that he puts alot of research into what he is building overall, as this does not look like a half-assed robot. However even despite this, metal sonic still loses. And what is eggman's reaction to this? He just leaves him behind. If someone fails to do his work, he doesn't care about said creation anymore until it is convenient to use them again. Talk about selfish.

In the bad ending of sonic CD, after eggman loses, he just laughs it off, as he knows he will come back to just dominant the world again using the time stones. While this ending isn't canon, as the good ending is canon according to sonic origins final cutscene, I'll say that this does still tie-in with his extra confidence he has about himself conquering the world.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2.

After sonic CD, eggman chases after sonic when he flew the tornado to west side island.

Yeah, eggman's grudge against sonic is so great, that instead of simply ruling the world in his own right, he just chases after sonic the hedgehog. But there is one reason he does this..

He always goes after sonic because he acknowledges that sonic is the one that'll ALWAYS beat him no matter what. He knows that sonic will always get in his way. And you can tell he means business, as he starts destroying the environment, creating explosions to the island itself. Skipping to wing fortress, we gotta talk about this.

In wing fortress zone, he shot down tails' plane at first site. This is so sonic cannot get to eggman so easily. Despite sonic getting in the zone and chasing after eggman.

In the end of the zone, eggman uses a laser to shoot sonic. This is kinda a lame (but fucking hard, jesus) boss fight, but at the end... instead of eggman making an Expression of fear or anger, he is still laughing as he leaves.

He knows sonic cannot chase him, he knows sonic is stuck as he has no way of getting to him. This is the TRUE reason he shot tails' plane, so he cannot get into the death egg. BUT, one thing eggman underestimated tails', as he already rebuilds the plane to help sonic up.

Except no, because when sonic arrives, he has mecha sonic MK1 already here.

This is his 2nd metal sonic, but it is much more bulkier and the only major ability is his spindash. However, his spindash is sharper due to the sharp quills he has.

However sonic still beats him, but eggman has a backup plan.

The death egg's giant robot mech. I'd say in this instance, his confidence got too much in the way of this fight, as he is in an unstoppable mech suit and he knows he can beat sonic, he thinks it cannot work in Sonic's favor. However... sonic has beat him.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3/SONIC & KNUCKLES/SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES (jesus christ..)

For the remainder of this, we'll only use the knuckles meeting eggman scene in origins, as his meeting in the Manuel seems to contradict his meeting in the origins cutscenes.

In the sonic origins opening cutscene, eggman is soon throwing a temper tantrum after exiting the death egg robot. He was THIS close to beating sonic with the awesome power of the death egg robot, however, after being defeated eggman is just pissed off and rightfully so.

Then... when he sees the master emerald, his confidence has grown for a bit, but than knuckles shows up and was almost about to beat him up. Eggman shows his acting skills to knuckles to take advantage of his naivety as he easily recognizes that he is the only native to angel island. He claims that sonic and tails are the ones going to steal the emeralds. This works and they're a team.

However, in spite of gaining knuckles' trust, he still does the usual converting animals to robots and turning the environment into his own favor. He uh... really loves doing this, it's basically a tuesday to him after doing this the first time in sonic 1.

Throughout the game, eggman's actions in this I'd say are more careful around sonic, while also taking more drastic changes. First of all, the act 1 boss fights. In the end of each 1st act, there's ALWAYS a boss fight, and the primary reason is because eggman needs to stop sonic from getting close to foiling his plans all the time and I'd say he learned his lesson about being extremely careless about sonic, as he is always planning ahead of each robot to face off against him.

In launch base, eggman finally manages to launch the death egg, but he is still stopped by sonic. Yet here..

Yeah, eggman laughs it off and leaves, because he knows the master emerald will have enough power to bring the death egg back up. (Note: this only exist in the sonic origins version of sonic 3, but I feel like it fits eggman's character.)

Later on, he finally betrays knuckles and steals the master emerald for himself. The reason he waited so long is because he is more focus on HOW he's going to steal it, as knuckles will know that he is not on his side at all. Of course, at the end, when knuckles was fully distracted by sonic, eggman finally takes action into stealing the emerald, and as a one last f*ck you to knuckles, just shocks him with electricity.

Eggman finally rises his death egg up and sends his egg robos (which I always felt like were the inspiration for the E 100 series robots later in the series) to sky sanctuary to take down sonic.

Fast forward, sonic destroys the death egg's shield to eggman, which causes eggman to have a slight freak out about the whole thing and runs away before turning the tables with his giant egg robo, with the power of the master emerald. However, in spite of this power, it gets destroyed, but eggman laughs it off and leaves before being jumped on by sonic alot.

In doomsday zone, he is not gonna give up on using the emerald. He simply runs away from sonic, because at this point, sonic is now In his hyper/super form and eggman is fully aware that it is invincible, so all he can do is fly away but not before sending lots of missiles at sonic to slow him down. Eggman gets defeated by sonic though.

In the ending cutscene of sonic origins, eggman is just floating in the water, visibly pissed off at his constant defeat with sonic at this point since sonic 2 and now. However a flicky shows up, and pops eggman's floating... thingy and that's the end of the sonic Quadrilogy. Despite eggman's confidence, he is simply just always losing to sonic because he seems to always underestimate his opponent. And this ending brings an irony to his ending, as in the beginning, he bends nature to his will, while in the end, nature beats him. Lol

HOWEVER, one thing I'll take note is that eggman's self love and narcissism is the driving force behind the character, and you can see that it is REAL, not a sorta coping mechanism because he "hasn't been loved in all his life", no, he genuinely loves himself and is VERY confident that even after all if his defeat at the hands of sonic the hedgehog, he always stays positive and comes up with a new plan to destroy THE HEDGEHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!!! (Yay, cringe sonic 2 reference.)

I love eggman's character, and I love how confident he is in the first 4 games, and how he always manages to stay in control of his plans in between games, never staying behind. And I love the narcissistic and egotistical characterization of him in the 1st game's manual, he is just... SO good. He is such an evil person, and I love him for it. He wants to rule the world because HE thinks HE deserves it, and sonic always gets in his way.

I'm making this cuz I don't see anyone do much of this guy (except egg emperor), and I'd figure I do this

Also, later game facts:

1: he is named dr ivo robotnik (E-VO is the pronunciation, not Long I-VO. Get this right people. XD), while eggman is a nickname. It is implied he coined nicknamed before sonic 1, as he still called that in the japan versions of sonic 1-sonic adventure 1.

2: he wants to build eggmanland as his perfect utopia, as stated by sonic adventure 1-onward.

3: he idolizes his grandfather gareld robotnik, who is the inspiration of his genius. Despite this tho, he isn't afraid to tarnish gareld's legacy, as he tried to claim shadow as his own during shadow 2005, so that he can take advantage of him.

4: eggman's the best, you know it.

Ok full disclosure I’m going to be talking about fan to fan grievance style discourse. I know when I talk discourse I usually mean debating about the media at hand with other fans so wanted to warn everyone off the bat. That being said this is very general, I’m not calling anyone in particular out, I’m voicing annoyance, hopefully communicating a perspective not often discussed, not trying to start a fight.

I am a fandom member who adores reading good, thoughtful analysis about the media I enjoy. It can be even more fun then engaging with the media itself to me, I have a lot of respect for the people who can bring out parts of a text I’ve not considered before and effectively communicate what they mean.

However I keep bumping up against this strange superiority complex in a frankly absurd amount of these analysts which makes engaging in fandom feel a lot more divided then it should reasonably be in my opinion.

In a distractingly large portion of the analysis I read, especially here on tumblr, I see a consistent trend of analysts belittling and demeaning shippers completely unprompted. And I don’t know these people, maybe they’ve had negative experiences with shippers I don’t know about, but it largely seems to be baseless bullying towards fellow fandom members. I know, for instance a fanwriter would never antagonize all fanartists in a similar way. There’s just this anger directed towards fans who enjoy shipping from people who seem sure they’re engaging in the media in a better, smarter way than the shippers.

And it’s upsetting that people would put other fans into such restrictive boxes as if when you ship characters visibly, writing fics and drawing ship art, that means you’re automatically barred from thinking critically or deeply about the media or the characters you’re shipping.

I understand frustrations with mischaracterization or aggressive shipping discourse, but as someone who enjoys both shipping and analysis I’m just so frustrated by being called out by my fellow analysis lovers as someone who “could never understand their genius” to exaggerate the general attitude I frequently see.

I, and I know so many other shippers, use exploring specific romantic relationships as a means to understand the characters better. To get in their heads, expose them to new situations, explore how they interact with other characters. I find it really annoying when people box in all shipping as “horny nonsense”, cuz like, yeah, sometimes it is horny nonsense, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but that’s far from the only appeal. Sometimes the best character analysis available in a fandom ends up being a multi tens of thousands of words long ship-based fic. And I promise you I am thorough when it comes to hunting for character analysis. It doesn’t have to be your thing, not at all, but why are we still perpetuating the idea that sexual content renders the rest of the text unimportant?

Just please, don’t toss your fellow community members into demeaning little boxes. All you’re doing is pushing people away from your work, people with their own unique perspectives which has just as much potential to provide meaningful fan commentary as your own.

The weird thing is, even in quite a few of the dystopian and/or zombie movies I've seen, even when there are selfish people who ruin things and prey on others just for the sake of it, there are also just as many characters who go out of their way to stick their necks out for each other. And those characters who do that? They tend to be the protagonists or at least supporting characters who get spotlighted.

It's Ben and Barbra banding together in Night of the Living Dead despite never knowing each other before that. Do they survive? No. And it's portrayed as a tragedy that they die when they shouldn't have. Those militia men who burn the bodies at the end? They aren't played as triumphant, but as terrifying.

It's the group from Dawn of the Dead who stick together and take care of their infected member even when they know he's on borrowed time. It's the priest from that same movie giving the zombified residents their last rights. The idea that these people will still remain even if others become selfish and violent.

It's everyone who goes out of their way to make sure Kee gets to safety in Children of Men, even though a vast majority of them never knew her before then.

It's the passengers who help Su-an and Jung Yu-mi get to the safe station in Train to Busan. And Jung-seok going back to save Min-jung despite the overwhelming number of zombies in The Peninsula.

....I had a point in all of this but then I got lost in nerd rambling so...I guess part of what I'm trying to say is that while sometimes that grimdark every man for himself "if you're strong you live and if you're weak you die" stuff can be the take a post-apocalyptic media is going for, there are also some that say, "Okay. So some people will use tragedy and disaster as an excuse to be selfish and hurt people. But you don't have to do that. You can choose to care about and help others. And you know what? You won't be the only one to do that."

hate how all these apocalyptic films show society breaking down the hot minute the grid goes down, with all the survivors banding off into tiny violent gangs that prey on each other.

bitch you are a member of one of the most social species in existence! it is actually insane the extent to which humans have evolved to use cooperation as our main survival tool. humans have been building and then rebuilding societies for as long as disasters have been bringing them down. an apocalypse would be fucking awful, but the survivors would end up building communities and networks and pooling resources and knowledge, because that’s what humans do. that’s what they DO!!!

Continue from Analysis L Change the World, how similar and different Maya and L are in their genius talent. L can read people's hearts that is his genius talent. Maya as well. To be able to wear each mask of her talent. Maya needs to understand their characters feeling and hearts. Even Normal people still can't understand their hearts even their people even their lovers. So that's why I call charisma talent. Maya is a hard person for normal people to figure out that Maya is a genius because Maya can live with normal people and friends with normal people and even fall in love. Unlike L, he is not good at being friendly with social. People said L is half autistic. But for me, I do not see him as autistic much.

This is not just acting but also understanding the character's heart.

For someone who knows Marcy Wu from Amphibia. Marcy was insanely clumsy and very oblivious. This causes her to be heavily reliant on her friends—Anne and even Sasha constantly feel the need to look out for her, and she relies on Sasha to make decisions for her. In Amphibia, she has learned to manage herself better and make independent decisions on her own without any influence from other people, although she is still fairly clumsy and sometimes dependent on Anne. Maya is the same as Marcy. She still needs her friends to help her. She's clumsy like Marcy too. The only difference was Marcy has always received straight A's in school and was an avid fan of retro video games. Maya's interest in both movies and acting is very addictive. Marcy is a hard person for normal people to figure out that Marcy is a genius too. Because Marcy also can live with normal people and be friends with normal people. They only care about what they like and stick to it in their own imaginary world, but they like to learn new things. I wouldn't say it's autistic. So why is it so hard for ordinary people to see them as geniuses? They will see it as being smart rather than genius. (Prove that Anne is good friends with Marcy. even called her a genius.)

So, my prediction is, Maya “wins” with her interpretation of the Crimson Goddess and they key to that is Masumi. Those two share an insepperable bond and have truly found their “one true love” in eath other, they just haven’t had the chance to live their love. Their relationship was complicated from the very beginning, when Maya was still obviously much too young to be Masumis lover and it was all about a taltented actress. Fate has been very cruel to them resulting in a very tragic love, even after they both are very aware of eath other’s feeling. Actually, I think the realization that they’re deeply in a mutual love, made it even worse, because of their difficulties being together. Maya’s extreme hardships in her relationship to Masumi will make her come out as the true Crimson Goddess and I’m sure when she’s on stage acting her part, she won’t do it for herself, or her Sensei or anyone for that matter, besides Masumi. She wants to act for him and she wants to show him her perfect Crimson Goddess and I’m pretty sure he will be moved to tears, because he’ll be the only one who’ll truly understand her acting.

Okay in all seriousness. There's something that I REALLY want to talk about as an open discussion with the fandom, but. This is not going to be a very nice thing to hear/talk about.

It's about how Gonta is treated by the fandom.

As a fan of all the V3 characters now, and as someone who has always been a fan of Gonta, and as someone who has many mental disabilities and two diagnosed neurodivergancies... I'm tired of playing nice about it.

You all need to stop being ableist towards Gonta.

I've mentioned in the past that I don't like shitting on personal interpretations. I don't like saying something is or is not canon because narration is just a big web of text that you try to decipher with your own personal biases, experiences, and thoughts. That's why two literary analysts analyzing the same text with the same literary criticism rules can come to wildly different conclusions--why people develop different headcanons from the same canonical information.

But one of the things that challenged my integrity is just how many people view Gonta as this innocent, naive, ignorant, baby boy who can do no harm/never has a complicated/dirty/violent/sexual thought in his life ever.

This incredibly ableist interpretation of the character bothered me for, well, obvious reasons (See: It's fucking ableist, need I say more?) but I never challenged it as harshly as I am now because to be frank, it's not my place to tell people how to HC a character. It still isn't. But I've pretty much given up on my integrity on the subject and have decided to go all in on discussing why this interpretation of Gonta is just. Really bad.

First of all, not to promote my own analyses here or anything, but I think this analysis I did of Gonta explains a LOT in regards to the ableism the cast gives him in canon. I also think that this subtle ableism is why the fandom is so bad with Gonta's characterization in headcanons and fanfic--because they've seen how the cast treats him, and they think it's normal. They don't see the microaggressions, they don't see the subtle ableism in the cast--they just see this big giant idiot who speaks like Tarzan in the English version (which... I don't actually know why people assume Tarzan (Thinking of Disney's version) is stupid. Like as a boy he had to reinvent the spear with no one to guide him on how to do it. He was able to strategize and outsmart "civilized" men in the final showdown. Still I digress) and don't see the literal genius behind his social awkwardness.

There is also another very important point I'm going to make in addition to this, and it's going to be very uncomfortable to Gonta fans who insist he's nothing but a sweet baby who only has pure thoughts. Especially to the fans who insist he "can't be sexual" or think it's weird to ship him with his peers.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but... Gonta blatantly has sexual desire and gets horny right in canon.

It wasn't a matter of Gonta didn't want to touch her because touching someone in their underwear was inappropriate, or being flustered because she was in her underwear which is inappropriate...

It was literally a "weird feeling" that made him unable to approach her or touch her. A "weird feeling" that Miu makes pretty obvious as to what it was--sexual arousal.

He literally was sexually attracted to and felt sexual arousal from looking at Miu in her underwear. He had sexual feelings and thoughts about Miu. Why?

Because Gonta is a young man.

Gonta is a brilliant, talented young man who has normal human thoughts for someone his age--sexual desires, upsetting thoughts, complicated thoughts, ectect. He is not a child, he is not mentally stunted (I've been informed that people have literally said this on Ao3 for the NSFW Gonta fics, please for the love of god stop that)

I think the reason why Gonta fans typically want to keep him as a "pure baby child who can do no wrong" is because treating him like the young adult that he is makes it harder for them to justify Chapter 4. Every time I've seen a Gonta fan that hates Kokichi, it's always followed by the sentiment of "Kokichi manipulated and abused Gonta into killing Miu, so it's all Kokichi's fault." They're afraid of nuance and liking a character with the grey morality of genuinely thinking Mercy Killing the cast is a viable option, because it challenges their own morals about the character they adore.

To those people who read this and are upset: You can and should like Gonta! Gonta is a magnificent character who showcases the subtle way microaggressions can manifest and hurt people, he's a good-hearted person and a literal genius, he cares deeply for his friends and loves everyone with upmost sincerity.

But.

You need to re-evaluate your stance on Gonta if you think he's a stupid, naive fool who Kokichi manipulated. You need to re-evaluate why you think those thoughts, why you think Gonta being shipped with anyone is "Kinda weird" or "has weird consent problems" or "give you the ick." You have to challenge yourself and ask yourself uncomfortable questions in regards to why you treat Gonta like a child when canon has proven otherwise, why you think he cannot have violent or sexual thoughts, why he can't think mercy killing his class is the only way to save them.

This isn't an attack on you--but understand that these specific takes on Gonta? They are ableist in nature. They belittle and dismiss him, they treat him like a child, an idiot who can't think for himself--and you have to come to terms with the fact that Gonta is a far more complex character with complicated thoughts and feelings who is a young adult. Not a child. A young adult.

So again, ask yourself this: Why are you treating this young adult like he's a toddler?

No bc MR-SN was a good captain obviously but he definitely did have a kind of… idk toxic idealism about him. He went throughout the planes to find all of his crew, never taking no as an answer. They were the best of the best and he believed in them and he needed them on his team. Only they could do what they were recruited to do to get them beyond the planescape.

And it’s pretty clear how MR-SN’s crew kinda really internalized that. We don’t really know much about how they were before The Incident, but with how MR-SN thought of all of them and almost projected onto them it was sort of a second-hand superiority complex. They were the best ones at their job according to MR-SN, and he’s MR-SN!

Whether or not they all fully believed they were the best of the best or not, they definitely internalized that they were supposed to be. They defined themselves by their roles because they were supposed to be the best. In the show particularly K-LB and E-DN put a lot of weight on what their job on the per aspera was supposed to be and though obviously not so much with AS-TR (just based on what we have bc her arc isn’t about that), there’s plenty implication of the importance to C-RA as her role of protector as well.

Even VR-LA who doesn’t remember his time on MR-SN’s crew is implied to have internalized his role possible even more than anyone else. He’d hole himself in his room with his research and while we know that’s just How VR-LA Is Anyway, it was even more so before. He’s very good at deep diving into an assignment when even suggested direction to, and this time there’s the added pressure of MR-SN thinks you’re the best of the best. Don’t prove your incredible captain wrong.

And then they failed. C-RA could protect them, K-LB couldn’t crack the science in time, E-DN couldn’t detect the threat right under their noses, and we all know AS-TR’s dealing with different problems than a sense of failure. It’s a sort of ego death for them. The the incredible, charismatic Captain MR-SN had chosen and gunned so hard for all of them to join his mission to do the things only they could do. And they still failed. It wasn’t MR-SN’s fault of course, he’s MR-SN, so aside from DX-TR obviously, whose else could it be but any of their own?

VR-LA is spared this sense of this specific guilt of failure because he doesn’t remember any of it or the pressure on him. Of course MR-SN didn’t mean to put that pressure on any of them, but when someone like MR-SN believes in you, you’d better prove him right.

And it’s only in his dying moments did MR-SN realize any of this as well. That he failed in his dream. ‘Forget the project VR-LA, just make sure everyone is safe, it wasn’t worth it for this. Everyone else did they best they could, they were the best of the best, but I lead them into this, I let them down.’

When everyone believes they’re the best at what they do and the stakes are this high, when it all falls apart how would it not kill you? And I suppose in MR-SN’s case it’s literal as well.

He’s so determined and such a dreamer that of course he’d see what he believes to be the the best, right and true choice and then refuse anything else. He doesn’t take no for an answer cause he’s an unrealistic idealist with a head full of dreams. What makes him so inspiring and such a good leader and someone people gather around to follow is the exact same quality that most taints him…

Anyway I think this might all be actually very surface level but I am eepy and brain is soup and agrhdhgrhrv

He followed him because of all the above traits and then betrayed him cause he wouldn’t make the pragmatic functional choice DX-TR thought was necessary… MR-SN always thinking he is right, that he knows the way, always so convicted (don’t even get me started on conviction as a theme with rwd) and then everything falling apart when he’s wrong about his closest and oldest friend and suddenly everything isn’t so ideal and maybe he pushed too far and maybe he should have seen all the nos the universe was telling him and then maybe he wouldn’t have died for it…

Although that didn’t seem to be a problem because the second I entered the lobby, Penelope Garcia, BAU Technical Analyst Extraordinaire, was standing right in the middle wearing white dress covered in colorful flowers, pink cardigan, matching  kooky glasses, yellow heels, and all wrapped up in a smile that could possibly blind an elderly person.  It was at that moment, I knew work, at least, wouldn't be boring.

“Oh honey, no problem, I probably would have raced to the lobby even if you didn’t call just so I could be the first one to greet you.” Penelope giggled.  I opened my mouth to add my own witty humor but instantly got cut off. “You know normally I don’t love newbies joining the team, especially newbies entering my expertise, but I had a feeling when I found out you were another techy kick butt girl?  Oh my gosh I was so excited!” Penelope added, almost seeming out of breath now from her said excitement.

All I could do was giggle and nod in agreement.  

It was a relief to know I didn’t embarrass myself in the first few minutes on the job.  I knew the fact that I got this job was an accomplishment.  Girls like me don’t get jobs like these everyday.  Girls like me who have no use of their legs and have limited muscle strength, do not get jobs in the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the FBI.  Though it was my dream, the moment when I couldn't reach the elevator buttons was an honest wake up call

Ever since I was little I loved the idea of saving others and catching bad guys.  When other girls were painting their nails, or playing princess, I was in the city library reading about Ted Bundy.  Strange for a 12 year old girl, I know, but I couldn’t stop thinking about why people did what they did.  Don’t worry I still enjoyed dolling up my nails every once in a while.

Obviously it was no secret I couldn’t run after criminals, or even use a gun so I knew it was probably a pipe dream.  So I shifted gears, got into tech and code.  I could do that.  With the right adaptive technology, I could run laps around any encryption.  Luckily I never used my powers for evil. In high school I learned about technical analysts who worked for the FBI.  That was it, that was my path.

The elevator opened and I followed Penelope through the glass doors, into the bullpen I saw in my college textbooks.  If it wasn’t clear by my beaming smile, I was almost start struck by the sight of all the agents sitting at the desks working and I got to be one of them.  One agent stood out though because instead of flipping through files or paperwork, he was playing chess, by himself.  The other odd thing was he looked about my age.  I expected to be the youngest one on the team because by some miracle, I got this job only a few years after graduating college. His floppy curly brown hair shielded his eyes slightly, but even from where I was, I could tell they were brown.

Penelope’s voice took me out of my trance and my eyes snapped up to look at her “Hotch told me to come get him when you arrived since well…” She gestured to the wheels of my motorized wheelchair, then up to the door in the middle of the walkway above the main level of the bullpen with a small awkward giggle “Stairs, so I’ll be right back.” I snicker slightly then nod, sending her up the stairs and into the room she pointed to.

While waiting, my gaze goes back to the chess playing guy.  He was young but dressed like an old man, suit, tie, and everything.  There was something wise about him, like his looks were youthful but it seemed like he’s seen some things.

Hotch’s office door opened before he and Penelope made their way down the steps.  I met them halfway, holding out my hand as best I could with a smile “Unit Chief Aaron Hotchner, Brooke Bevan, it’s seriously an honor to be working with you.”  In my defense, I didn't mean to sound like a fan girl, it just came out that way.

With a firm grip, Hotch shook my hand “Welcome, we’re eager to have you.”  Already I could tell the rumors were true. Aaron Hotchner was all business and it looked like he hadn’t smiled in at least a month.  He was the man in charge for a reason though, the number of successful cases couldn’t lie.  

Hotch reaches into his suit jacket and pulls out the thing that makes all this official.  My face beams as my heart races in my chest.  “Here are your credentials.  As you should already know, you must keep these on you.”  I nod while practically ogling the FBI symbol on the front of my credentials.  “Penelope can introduce you to everyone.” Hotch explains while placing the booklet on my lap then heads back up to his office.

Penelope practically shakes with excitement “It’s official newbie!”  She was right.  I am now Brooke Bevan, Technical Analyst for the FBI, it had a nice ring to it.  “Come and meet everyone!” Penelope chimes before leading to a group sitting in the middle of the bullpen.

A dark-haired girl looks up from the file she was reading and her face lights up when she sees us coming “Hey!  You must be Brooke.” She stands up and shakes my hand “I’m Emily Prentis, it’s nice to meet you. Hotch has said good things.” 

I grin with a nod before one by one introduces themselves with a handshake.  Derek Morgan, David Rossi, then Jennifer Jareau who apparently goes by JJ.  Finally there was Chess Guy.  I hold out my hand before he awkwardly waves it off with a small smile “I-I actually don’t do handshakes.  Did you know according to studies, a handshake can transfer a significant amount of bacteria, with research showing that a handshake transmits nearly twice as many bacteria compared to a high five and significantly more than a fist bump, which is considered the most hygienic greeting option du-”

“And that is Dr. Spencer Reid.” JJ cut him off with a small amused laugh.

My eyes blink a few times, trying to drink in the info dump plus the fact that JJ just said doctor.  My eyebrows furrow a little in confusion “You look a little young to be a doctor…” My voice trails off.  

That’s when Penelope speaks up “Reid is our team genius.”

Reid sheepishly “I don’t really believe you can quantify knowledge but I do have an IQ of 187 and eidetic memory.”

I give another stunned look and utter “Huh…”  To be honest I couldn’t recall knowing anyone with that amount of smarts, I couldn’t help but be impressed.  “How about a high five then?” I finally say with a smile while holding out my hand.

Spencer’s face seemed to light up and he reached out to give me a high five.

Suddenly Hotch comes out with a thick file folder in his hand, his presence commanding attention. “We have a case.”
