Omg has anyone seen 'Sugar apple fairy tale'

it's not popular at all, and it's the girlest anime you will ever watch in your life BUT ITS SO GOOD MAN

like, Challe is so hot, I just started watching the anime. I don't normally simp for emo anime characters idk why I'm so obsessed with Challe. The art style is SO PRETTY TOO. If you haven't watched it, watch it. I don't even know why I love it so much, j just do, there's something about it that's just- y'know- idk

Just Why?? (Some Spoilers)

God man why!!! I was sitting here this afternoon watching Sugar Apple Fairy Tale eating lunch I bout choked on my food I swear. So I'm on episode 6 in season 2 and Challe leans over Anne to tell her to stop being so trusting and to pay attention to the other fairy in the house and then he starts kissing her cheek all the way down almost to her lips. Damn he was so seductive I was about to drool on myself then he asks her if she understands and she says yes and I swear to god I don't think Challe could get any hotter then he says to her "Good Girl". Goes on to tell her she is staying in his room that night and I'm like omg girl jump at the chance to have a fairy in your bed lol.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale: Short Review

I’m slowly returning to the world of anime. I’ve missed it so much! To start off I watched Sugar Apple Fairy Tale 🧚🍎✨

The story about a girl called Anne Halford who wishes to be the first female Sugar Artisan. In order to certain her safety she purchases a Warrior Fairy called Challe Fen Challe or Challe for short.

The two start off rocky due to racial tensions & the way society has established the slavery of fairies. To ensure a fairy obeys one wing is ripped off and used to punish them or make them comply. However Anne over a few weeks returns Challe his wing as a sign of good faith giving him the freedom to stay or go. Challe chooses to stay to protect Anne until she achieves her goal.

A spark blooms between them and it becomes more than a protector & innocent dynamic.

I adore this sweet, beautiful anime and it’s honestly so refreshing to watch 2D art rather than consistent westernised 3D cartoons.

Highly recommend there are 24 episodes on Crunchyroll Dubbed. It’s also nice to see new Voice Actor talent for the dubbed so the new generation of VAs is more variety. Awesome stuff!

I like how firmly Challe trusts Anne to get them out of their predicament. And while Anne always had a lot of determination, she's growing to trust her judgment and skills more, which is lovely.

Damnnn what an episode. These last few episodes have been cooking.

First off, it was extremely heartwarming to see Noah finally freed from the chains of his past and enjoy Anne’s confection. Lord Herbert would want him to be happy, not sitting around wallowing in grief. The competition the Silver Sugar Viscount gave Anne really did pay off in the end.

And the most obvious plot twist ever, Gladus being the mysterious assassin from earlier in the arc. I knew as soon as “Opal” was mentioned it had to be him since Opal changes colour under different light. Just as we now see Gladus in a “different light” after he attacked Bridget and Challe. And whose wing was Bridget grasping if not Gladus?

The animation during the brief fight between Challe and Gladus was really good, don’t usually expect that type of Sakuga from this show. It’s funny how Niehime and this, two shows that are aimed at female audiences, have both had some great fight animation

Challe and Gladus coming from the same sword is really interesting as well. We know there’s also a third stone in the sword that Gladus mentioned too, so potentially we’ll see that other fairy soon. But who was the master who made these fairies? Lot of questions remain.

A Review: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Vol. 1

Plot

Anne Halford is a sweet, caring fifteen-year-old with one goal: To win the Royal Candy Fair so she can become a Silver Sugar Master. If she does that, her mom’s soul (who’s recently died) will surely move on peacefully. There’s just one problem, in order to make it to the Royal Candy Fair she’ll have to travel the bloody highway filled with bandits, murderous crows, and wolves. 

She decides to get a warrior fairy, only he’s too pretty and has a horrible haughty attitude with a trash mouth to boot. Can she keep him in line long enough to make it to the Royal Candy Fair? 

Character Development

Ann Halford is a very sweet protagonist. She’s nice and treats everyone equally because she believes fairies and humans can be friends. She’s got talent as a silver sugar confectionist. She’s not very good at being assertive. 

Challe Fenn Challe is the beautiful warrior fairy who’s haughty and likes to insult humans. He calls Anne scarecrow. He seems to also be a bit melancholy, reminiscing about a human he knew before as he interacts more with Anne on their journey. 

Mithril Lid Pod is a small water fairy Anne saves from being killed by his previous master. He sneaks onto Anne’s wagon to repay her for saving him. He’s kinda loud and obnoxious but willing to prove himself. 

Jonas is a silver sugar confectionist related to one of the big workshop owners. He’s cheerful and is always trying to convince Anne that she’d be better off just marrying him. 

World-building

The kingdom of Highland used to be the kingdom of the fairies until humans rose up against them. Humans now rule. Fairies are treated as slaves by taking one of their wings you can control a fairy. There’s even fairy marketplaces where they can be sold as warriors (rare typing), pets (also rare and beautiful) or laborers (most of them). Fairies were the first beings to create silver sugar and humans adopted it. It’s said if you make a silver sugar confection right it can bring good luck and fortune to those that eat it. 

We find out that fairies are born from magic essence being collected in a single spot. This happens when a living being stares at the spot. They can’t taste food and absorb it. The only thing they can taste is silver sugar. 

Themes

Follow your dreams. 

This is a pretty easy theme to spot in this manga. No matter what happens throughout it, Anne insists on going to the Royal Candy Fair and becoming a Silver Sugar Master. When Jonas proposes, she refuses. When her confection is said to not have any soul to it. She buckles down on her dream. She won’t let anything stop her. 

Observations & Predictions

I think Jonas will do anything to stop Anne from trying to fulfill her goal. If she doesn’t fulfill it she’ll probably give up. If she gives up then she’d choose him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the one that made her silver sugar disappear at the end of this volume.

Anne, if she continues to interact with Challe after the Royal Candy Fair, will become more assertive. With her determination, I’m sure she’ll create candy pieces that will awe others. Anne is still grieving her mother so I hope she can put soul into her creations rather than just copying her mother’s style. 

I can see Challe developing a relationship with Anne, though what kind remains to be seen. Right now he sees a lot of Liz (former human) in Anne. This makes connecting with her easier and I’m interested to see if this develops into something further. There are hints of this in the first volume when she thinks of Challe when Jonas, yet again, tells her to just marry him. 

This is a sweet coming-of-age type story. We root for Anne and hope her dream comes true. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a sweet tasting story.
